Last night I got 3 ectos off a rare I got on a chest in an instigator event in southsun, using a master’s kit (I save my BL for exotics with expensive rune/sigils). I do get 1 (or 0) most of the times, but 3 isn’t that uncommon, at least for me.

That is good to hear, thank you. I’ll consider it a bad stretch with the RNG and leave it at that for now.

I use BL kits when I get them, but was having good rates with the Masters up until 4-5 days ago. Now, I haven’t seen more than 1.

Do you suppose they purposefully cut the Master kits down to only being able to have a max chance of 1 any more, or drastically reduced the chances for 2-3, to try to sell more BLs?

It’s a lot of fun but really hard not to think of this while harvesting now…which is a good thing.

I put the goggles on, but as I move close to jump, or the first time I jumped, it threw me out of the goggles?

I’m not sure if I got credit for it or not, sadly I forgot to see where I was before I started. I ‘think’ I might have gotten credit, if my last count was right and my checklist is right?

Anyone else experienced this but got credit for it?

Well in theory you should be able to open the map in any zone you are in and if it’s not 100, they are there.

Or, open your map and slide it around and compare to something like this?

Right, someone taught me that. So, could I complete it, all 4 steps, then get out of there really quick if someone else has the key to bank it completed? And then on a subsequent run, if no one has it and no one minds waiting around for 60 seconds while I bounce into the WvW bank and back, it would work?

I’ve only tried banking it with 3 steps done, and I know that part works.

Thanks. I guess the answer is to just not do it any more. I tried, but there isn’t enough time to go to WvW, get it out of the bank, the character log back to the room and to the ‘Investigate’ step to then let everyone in. The golem is gone by then.

I wonder what evil, nefarious plot the developers thwarted by that design decision. Maybe that and giving Plush Griffons partial amnesia so they forget how to swim is part of a global scheme to rule the universe? Now all they need is a strand of Harry Potters hair and some sort of human/vampire baby and we can’t stop them? :|

Could anyone explain how the whole ‘key griefing’ thing works?

I have a key, that I spent a good amount of time finding and creating. If after FE I ‘finish’ the key, and someone else use’s their key, it deletes me key (thank you?).

If I have the other 3 parts done, and don’t finish it, if someone finishes their key then uses it, will it delete my key with the first 3 steps done?

Someone taught me how to make the key (if I could remember their name, I’d thank them), and now I kinda like to spend time doing it. Right up to the point where you can lose all your hard work in one sad moment (why…I have no idea).

I’m just realizing now that I was there the first afternoon, and got enough things done (sans actually winning anything in the crab toss, I just participated once) to get both back items, and I just left.

Which…I’m now thinking is kinda sad, so I was thinking of maybe trying to hang out today, when lots of people are around, and maybe do some things that might produce one of the old rewards and maybe some of the new rewards, but I don’t know exactly ‘what’ to do?

So I’m starting to warm up to kitty (though I feel the stares from people who think I’m over feeding him). But now…

…we ‘really’ need to be able to dye the Fervid Censer.

I’ll be broke, but I’m going to probably buy it. I hate switching and buying tools. I do hope they give it the kneel animation.

I got it, I’m down to 1200 gems and I want the sickle, and I just bought my $10/mo of gems on the 20th. Which means next week they will have more cute pets and new outfits pieces. Evil.

I can’t decide if I have buyers remorse or not? It’s cute, that’s not debatable, but it’s about as big as the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man. I think I still favor the Lion Cub, especially since I have a bit of a Joy Adamson thing happening with my civilian outfit. I’ll probably will monster kitty to my Mesmer, who I sadly don’t play much (struggling a bit in my mid 30s).

I buy $10/mo in gems, every month, as my way of supporting the game and saving for fun things. At these price points with the increased availability of fun things (and I see a storm of clothes coming), I’m almost out of gems, and don’t really have much more bandwidth than $10/mo I can go on this.

My concern was unlike the pick, which said it worked on the highest metals, and the mouse over now that I own it says ‘all metals’, this one specifically says ‘ori’. This gives them the ability to make an expansion or other content that introduces new types of materials and ‘oh, by the way, this is better than ori…sorry about your pick’.

I do still like my other pick, since it says ‘all’, and I’ll hold them to it, though I suppose that may end up being just as moot as if they hadn’t have said all (well clearly we meant all at the time, not new stuff).

Besides, with little cats and lions and bears, I’m broke.

Me too. I was actually sitting there logged in with a character and got it when I tried to go to WvW. Should have just sat there, wouldn’t be missing my event window now.

I crafted all of them to 400 myself. I have never made a copper from it, nor had that intention when I started. I craft purely for enjoyment, and I love making characters that can ‘live off the land’, so to speak, as much as possible.

I was ‘very’ happy with the quality of items I was able to make myself coming up through the levels. Many games like to push crafted items into a sub-standard area, I’m glad this one didn’t, having crafted all the Exotic gear for 80s thus far (with a few jewelry purchases).

I let my crafting level at any point in time dictate the level areas I played in (for both materials and the highest gear level I was able to craft myself at that point).

Knowing what I know now, I’d do it all over again.

And I saw a post the other day that dive 23 (I think?) is the place where you have to do 2 different ‘moves’ while diving to get credit for 2 different places?

It’s too bad they didn’t give us a better way to track them. I think the only way is to manually track them.

Ok thanks. I don’t really do fractals at all, so I guess I’ll be happy with the flower as it is for now. I could put it over the tentacles, but kinda don’t want to lose that skin ‘just’ in case I make a Necromancer some day, which would be a perfect piece.

So if you like the look of the yellow one, but like the stats on the orange one, but don’t want to ‘overwrite’ the orange one in case you want to use the skin later, what do you do?

I’d love a toggle to exclude items older than 10 days from showing in the “Items I’m Selling” list on the “My Transactions” tab of the BLTC.

I have 6-7 entries in there now where I ‘missed’ a price drop, and they will be out there forever, possibly, and it’s just kinda annoying to see them there.

Priority -10, I know, but if there is a “quality of life” list somewhere this can go on, and falls into the “I’m already in there working on ‘Big Thing X’, it’ll just take me 10 minutes to slap that in” kinda thing, then by all means.

That’s in that ‘not so sweet spot’ 35-45 area. I seem to recall there was a ‘great’ event chain, which I’ve ‘sadly’ only done maybe 3-4 times in the NE corner that ended in a big fight and a chest. That would be a great event to put a little daily chest on.

I’m still on Emhry, there’s lots of folks around, I think? I see people in LA all the time, I see the usual suspects and even some I haven’t seen at all the dragon timer events? We still seem to be doing fine in our little corner of the WvW greater universe?

I’m not really sure how to figure out where everyone is congregating for PvE? You could try that really big thread where people all join a club to help find each other to do things with?

I will admit, there isn’t too much going on in zones that don’t ‘have’ a daily chest event. I am running a warrior up, around 33, and many of the places I go don’t seem to have much going on (Lornar’s Pass – a favorite, Snowden Drifts, recently my personal story dragged me to Fields of Ruin).

I’m not really sure other places experience the same thing, but I would think so. Hopefully they add more little events like that in all the zones to get more people to loiter in some of those other places.

But I hardly feel like Emhry is a ghost town?

That’s really unfortunate. I hope they think of something better to do about that.

What would help some is if they rotated our lands, either each week or even ‘during’ the week (on an ‘off 24 hour’ basis, to ensure there was a chance to hit things across time zones).

Now that many of the match ups are starting to stabilize, even in a match up where you are the ‘winning’ server each week, if you aren’t moving brackets and seeing the same servers week after week, you never get a chance to have one of the other BLs be your home. If they shifted those, and your ‘corner’ of EB, we’d all have a better shot, win or lose, to get at least some of these other places covered.

Heh, no. I’m talking about the in game mini pet called a Plush Griffon. You could make them during Wintersday, or buy one in the gem store.

I have one, and since the patch, it can’t swim any more, and was wondering if it was something wrong with my pet, or if any other owner also had this problem. Specifically, like all the other pets I have (which admittedly isn’t many, though the new lion cub does), it used to follow me into the water and swim, following me to dry land, and continuing after I come ashore. Now, it disappears as soon as I hit the water, and I have to conjure it again once I hit land. I don’t have many pets to test with, but the others don’t do this, they continue to swim as they did before the patch.

I own a Plush Griffon.

If you also own a Plush Griffon, has he/she developed selective amnesia?

This does not make me want to go back to Southsun.

Actually that part makes me want to go. I really enjoyed Flame and Frost, including sucking up and doing the dungeon once (which was a lot of fun). I like the stories and collections and little things and achievements and such.

What doesn’t make ‘me’ want to go is remembering the last time I tried to do something in Southsun alone.

Time gate?

Well, for me, trying to save up 660 gold ‘is’ a time gate.

I don’t run CoF (CoE?…see, I don’t even know the right one) P1, or whatever that is over and over again, it doesn’t sound fun. I don’t like being in Orr, though if Frostgorge had a way to make as much money as the people that ran events in Orr claim to produce a comparable gold/time ratio, I’d consider that. I save my mats, because I craft. It seems like other than vendoring some of the things I get (some of the yellows I need to melt into ectos, because I am saving to make a Legendary, and I still have alts that I’ll make Exotic armor for some day), I don’t make much money.

So for me, trying to save up 660 gold for ‘The Legend’ is very much a time sink.

Now, I’d ‘much’ rather have a time sink that was a ‘measurable’ sink that moved at the same pace for everyone, vs gold collection, which seems to totally elude me. At the rate that I’m going, unless I get a rare legendary drop from a daily boss chest (which is how I got to my 200g that I have now), ‘when’ I will get my Legendary is just as random to me as throwing things into the Mystic Forge.

I don’t have any other argument to offer for or against this, other than wanting to shoot down the ‘time sink’ argument, because for some of us, trying to save gold ‘is’ a time sink.

Is Southsun a place you can run around by yourself in?

I was there when it opened during the mad rush, which was a lot of fun. I went back after that died down and remember trying to kill some karka thing and it was fairly hard, and hurt me much more than even some of the old Orr mobs. So I left, and haven’t been back.

I’ve read before that an ability triggering while harvesting will cause you to get ruined fibers/logs/ore. So if, say, you’ve got a trait that activates X ability at 75% health and you’re being hit while harvesting you’ll get the ruined fiber when X triggers during the harvesting process.

Ahhh that makes sense! I don’t recall anything triggering, but I have lots of passive signets up when I tool around PvE (actives for WvW). Plus, I know that when you level and do ‘the level victory move’ it will completely interrupt your harvesting and you have to get back on it. So maybe something weird like that happened.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t some weird thing like I posited, where it was a roll on a rare item, but since I didn’t have an Ori, it gave me dirt.

I didn’t press the issue. Mine wasn’t a ‘horrible’ mess up. I got the right base stats on a necklace, but accidentally got a defense one instead of the utility kind.

Having said that, I did have an experience in ‘another’ game where I persistently asked as nicely as I could, putting forth very logical arguments as to why I should be given an item, or the opportunity to go ‘back’ and get an item that was only available in starting areas (RIFT) and after several (5-6?) tickets over a period of time (3-4 weeks?) I finally got someone that gave me the item I really wanted because I was apparently so passionate about it (and they were probably really tired of seeing my tickets, but since they were really nice tickets, they couldn’t get mad at me?)

So, give it a shot.

So I was running around in Frostgorge harvesting (I love stories/posts that start with ‘So…’. There is usually much drama, and it usually ends badly. I can assure you, this is very benign.), and I harvested a ‘Winter Something Something’, forget the exact name, using a Mithril sickle, as I often do for those, thinking I don’t need an Ori, and I got Parsnips, one of the usual suspects.

I noticed on this one I could harvest again, so I did it again, and got “Ruined Plant Fiber”. :|

Besides feeling a bit like Charlie Brown in the Halloween special, I was wondering ‘why’ I got that? I thought you only got junk when you used a tool on a node that was below what was required? Are some plants ‘mixed’ nodes, in that you can use a Mithril on it, but if a rare roll happens, and what it ‘would’ have given you is only available if you had used an Ori, and you don’t have one (even though you usually don’t need one on the node), then…you get a rock?

That would really be a bummer if we ‘felt compelled’ to use Oris on ‘all’ of the higher level nodes, even if we don’t need to, because it’s the only way to get a true positive on a rare roll.

Or is there something else at play in what happened to me? I wasn’t in combat or anything like that (though, I have never seen that ‘combat’ argument work against me, as there’s been plenty of times I’ve been in combat and able to mine Ori and Ancient nodes).

Well I guess I was wrong, my little ‘So’ story ended in a bit of a conspiracy theory. If it does work that way, they need to sell us a special Sylvari Weasel stat.

At the risk of being kicked in the side of the head, it’s not that we all ‘got’ free transfers and got so spend that one free transfer, it’s that transfers were free for a period of time, with a 7 day restriction between transfers (that timer not starting until you made your first free transfer). As soon as they implemented paid transfers, they all became paid (after a grace period).

I suppose I’m not able to provide you with any helpful information to the rest of your questions.

To answer the OP’s final question: Yes you can transfer from an european server to an American server. Keep in mind this cost gems (depending on how active the server is).

The Secret World in DX11 mode? Not so much.

Like MP said, it’s all about discovery. I also leveled up Tailoring and Artifice as my first two on my Elementalist. I always like to pick some skills that go with my first character in an MMO so I can ‘live off the land’ as much as possible. I find that very much a part of my leveling enjoyment journey.

There were 3-4 noticeable times when I stopped ‘pushing’ my ‘leveling’ (looking for new areas and hearts and such) to sit back in past areas to work on my crafting, doing a little material farming by moving around in a zone from group of mob to group of mob so as not to get bit by the DR.

I found that if I started about 3 levels before I needed the items, I’d ‘just about’ get it right. Early on, I was making myself stuff every 5 levels. There were 2-3 times when I fell behind and had to sit and grind out the materials.

Just remember it’s all discovery. And if you can get your hands on any craft xp boosters as you do it, then save up what you want to do until you can get one of those hour buffs on you then let loose.

Also watch the bonus you get from WvW. If you happen to be on a server that does well in WvW, you can get a little bonus there by waiting towards the end of the week to craft. I never worried about that much myself, but I’ve seen it mentioned before by others, so thought I’d include it.

It was a ‘little’ discouraging at first seeing how much standard experience you got from crafting, but running a character now that does ‘no’ crafting (just gathering) I miss it now. I’m finding I need to sneak some ‘other’ zones in as I level to keep pace with the zones they are ‘leading’ me through as part of the story.

The ‘organic’ approach for me was to let go of needing to be in a zone that my level was at. Since I decided that crafting as I went was most important to me, I let that level, and the related materials, and the zones you got those materials in, drive where I was. Once I decoupled that in my mind, I was happier.

Ok. What’s funny is I haven’t been out here in weeks, and only poke in here to try to find nuggets of strategy or maybe ask a question (like this). I know some people are really adept at being able to parse through the yelling to find the golden nuggets, I’m not one of them. Since I was here reading some of the answers to my question, I went looking about and realized there’s a ‘lot’ of talk about the arrow carts going on. So now I could deduce what shortcake meant. Honestly, my question was a blind question that I could have easily asked 3-4 days ago (and had been considering asking).

It’s kinda funny that they put a neat progress mechanic in, but now I gotta ‘deer in headlights’ happening, and it’s a bit all for naught if I’m reluctant to put them anywhere. Can you ‘respec’ WXP (I see everyone calling it that, technically shouldn’t it be WAP, but I digress?) at this point in the game?

I guess the answer is to get my butt out in WvW more so I get enough points to spend that it doesn’t matter. I’m a bit of a ‘burst’ player though. I’ll play for a few day to a week having a blast, then maybe disappear for 3 weeks.

Thanks for the input, folks. I’m a pretty defensive minding person, so I might start with siege defense then.

I guess I shouldn’t have used the ‘fun’ word towards the end. I just meant it would be ‘fun’ to start spending the points, not that the outcome had to be more noticeably ‘fun’ than another. ‘Fun’ in journey over destination, if you will.

Though I suppose I ought to look at what the siege mastery things are, but admittedly, I don’t use siege much. I like doing the jumping puzzles and ‘getting’ siege, but usually just donate it off to people who enjoy using them. Though, I will ‘place and build’ my siege often. I don’t care to be on one so much. I guess I should spend more time on it.

So maybe then I should just keep sitting on my points. :\

I’m being totally serious, though it won’t seem it. By stating a thing in caps followed by LOL, and can’t tell if that’s a sarcastic, “Arrow Cart Mastery, what a joke, clearly no one should buy that!” comment, or was that supposed to be like a, “Cleary ‘everyone’ should stop spending what they are spending in and buy as much Arrow Cart Mastery as they can!”, or a new meme I don’t know about (I don’t know about them until meme generators call and want their meme back, which in itself is an indication as to how non-current I am), like the old [Adj] [Noun] is [Adj] one? Like [SOME THING IN CAPS] LOL, which means ??? I can’t tell how to read that.

I am a big whopping Rank 6. I don’t anticipate moving up terribly quickly. I enjoy WvW, and like to participate, largely by trying to follow either the big zerg, or maybe a small group of 5+ that seem to be running around taking care of business. I also enjoy running supplies to help repair and build things, as well as doing my best at castle defense. I prefer my staff ele, and love laying out blankets of AoE, but will occassionally put a wand/focus on to do some siege defense with that whirly wind thing (no, I don’t know the names of my own abilities).

Now, I’m wondering what I might spend my points on, or if I should not spend in anything and just sit on them? I was thinking maybe siege defense might be helpful? I’m always annoyed by having to deal with arrow carts and such when I’m trying to lay blankets of AoE up on walls as we’re storming keeps?

Just thought it might be fun to start buying some things, but wanted to find out if there were better things to do first rather than later or what?
