To answer the OP’s question the devs stated in the july blog that people with current MF gear will be compensated for the gear they already have.
Just the gear itself, or the cost of Transmutation Crystals and other armor used to re-skin said magic find armor as well?
I’m just saying.
Your gear will be converted into gear of another type.
MF gear is also the cheapest gear in the game by a large margin. It’s not a big loss even if they just flat removed it.
MF is a broken mechanic and needed to be removed.
So long as they don’t do something weird like destroy the gear and turn it into a token to redeem something. Or make us ‘trade’ the gear in for other gear.
While the MF gear itself might be cheap, their limited skinning system (because they don’t let us learn skins to use on a whim like dyes or Zenith skins) does mean that any sort of trade-in scheme like that would cause me to lose 3 skins on pieces that ‘were’ a bit expensive.
I would rather they didn’t automatically turn the gear into something that wasn’t gear, as 3 of my pieces have a very specific look, and if the stat was just going to get stripped from existing gear, at least I could transmute the look of those 3 pieces in the set to something else of my choosing.
It would be expensive to have to get those 3 pieces again for the looks. Which…is why ‘all’ skinning should get turned into a system like the Zenith skins, where you can memorize the look of ‘anything’ with a crystal and re-used at your leisure. But I digress.
Two things I wish I understood from the beginning a bit better.
1. You start with ‘some’ items that you can make for 10th level that utilities animal parts (like claws, fangs, venom, blood, etc). You must ‘discover’ how to make the higher level ones. Once you reach the appropriate level to make the next tier insignias, or whatever they are called for your profession…except cooking, that’s different, to make a tunic, you use that new thing you learned plus two pieces you need to make the tunic of the last thing you made in that tier (assuming you haven’t moved on to new material) and use the discovery to ‘discover’ (and create) the first of that item.
2. With the exception using refinement at each new tier of material to get as much out of that to gain experience as possible, once refinement is green (well, grey, but finishing up green is probably not worth it), it’s all about ‘discovery’ to gain experience. It’s not like WoW where you make 100 items of the same thing and that will get you 15 levels. You get very little experience making something you already made. You get a ‘ton’ when you learn something new. Leveling is about discovering as many (and the cheapest material-wise, to keep your costs down) things as you can until you get to that next level.
The guides from links that people post, like the above one, should be a lot clearer once you realize that. I don’t know how many of the sites sit down and explain why things are the way they are vs just saying “buy 100 of these 120 of those make 5 of these, then use those to make 5 of these bigger things…”. A lot of crafting guides are written for people who are rich and famous doing CoF P1 (until recently) and never crafted before, and want to knock it out in 7.34 minutes.
Oh, and if you get a crafting exp booster, hold it until you got a lot of material to sit down and so as many new discoveries as you can in an hour. Drink up, discover away!

Works perfectly with Armor. I believe I put two pieces of T1 Norn cultural on my warrior when she was maybe 10 or less? Since that level isn’t 80, I could use T.Stones (instead of crystals).
You can also do it with pieces a particular character might not have access to by doing a double transmutation, first to a low level white that the target character can wear (best to buy those pieces with said character and drop them in the bank), using the stats on the white item, makes them account bound, drop them in the bank. Pick them up and transmute them again with the desired target character on the piece of armor you want.
Any time ‘either’ a source or target in a transmute is 80, a Crystal is required.
Sadly preview is broken right now on previously transmuted armor (at least I can’t believe they did it on purpose, but I can’t believe they made the Plush Griffon, which I paid for, no longer swim and ultimately a pain to use, presumably because it ‘broke someone’s immersion’, but I digress), but if you link/tell yourself a piece you can preview what it really looks like that way, which is what I have to do for any piece I have in the bank right now that I saved because of looks.
Thanks! +many more characters
I got the clockwork and jubilee meta achievements done. I don’t suspect I will do that well in the gauntlet, but thought I might try at least ‘some’ of it to get some achievement points.
I don’t really understand where to go to start it, though? I’m in the Pavilion, but don’t see anyone to give an entrance ticket to. Is it ‘outside’ the Pavilion somewhere?
I’m not understanding the part where a game is about obligation and responsibility?
I suppose a game like, I don’t know, football, where it’s a profession, and you are being paid, and there’s a lot of business and money and all that on the table, technically that’s a ‘game’, but really it’s a business.
If I sit down to play Settlers of Catan, obligations and responsibilities don’t drive me to play it? Hanging out with friends and family and doing something fun drive me to play it.
But what if there’s an expansion for Settlers of Catan that can only ever be played next week?
Would it not bother you that you could never play that expansion if you had other plans that week? That’s why people feel obliged. Even They have to play at that time or miss out. That’s a shame really.
I understand your point, and agree. The OP was talking about how the game is casual and there is ‘no’ obligation or responsibility to login and play. That’s the part I don’t get.
But to your point, you are right, for the same reason, and to my point. It shouldn’t be about obligation and responsibility. It should be about enjoyment. I think it’s a shame the speed with which things are being thrown at us and then, more importantly, taken away. It ‘creates’ a sense of, at least, obligation and responsibility to not miss out on things, which the OP thinks is missing, but in a completely different regard.
It seems like that would be true if the rotation was in the same order every hour, as there would be a shift every day. But we’re seeing things like Sparkly Fen, Iron, Sparkly Fen, Fireheart, Sparkly Fen.
It’s kinda nice. But it reminds me that one of the few things I don’t like about the game is the lack of communication. Especially playing a game now where it’s a complete 180 experience with developers who post actively in forums and engage the players and explain why things were done and ask for opinions and suggestions.
Here, we have a few CMs that scold you and that’s about it, as far as I can tell.
Here’s a few simple ones:
1) Why would you make the preview be not what the thing looks like?
2) Why did you take an item that I paid money for and break it so it’s not as fun to use? Plush Griffon. Used to swim, now doesn’t swim? Did an intern need a new project so you just let him mess that up without a care in the world? Was Plush Griffon overpowered in WvW by swimming? Was he unfairly always at the top of the sPvP leaderboards? Would could possibly have been so wrong with that one little game item that you actually expended resources and breaking it?
There’s more, and I’m sure everyone has their list of ‘small’ “what-the-hells”, those are a few of mine.
Overall, I’m happy with 99.9% of the game and play. Just the little, ‘crazy cat lady’ things that crop up that drive me nuts, and absolutely no way to get any communication about anything out of them.

I suppose there are some weekend warrior types that use video games to itch their “I’m playing war!” scratches. A place where they get to stretch their 2nd grade Type A personalities, or perhaps everything they do in life is ‘Type A’ (though, I’m not sure what commando cooking would look like? “Look at that omelette! I crushed that!! Ughnn!!!”). However, some of us play games because they are fun. I gotta sword, and a helmet, and some tasks, and I go off in search of a little loot, and play like I’m a little warrior making my way in a strange world! Yay!
That’s it. Fun.
Now, years ago Vanguard made a game like it’s supposed to be made (and played, apparently) with insta-perma-whatever death and corpse runs and you lose your equipment when you die, and sometimes they come to your house when you die and take some of your real money and a chair and some food from you. You have to have a raid party of 20 strangers to virtual-bully you at character creation. You join a guild and are told you have to play the tank, because no one else wants to, since we’re all awesome DPS with awesomz Gear Scorz, and we need a tank and you are it. And you have to go come out every night for 4 hours a night until 1am to play, and we don’t care that you have to get up and go to work the next day.
I think those still exist out there…somewhere? Do they all have to be that game? I kinda like this one.
im afraid to look up the name of the voice actress since maybe it doesnt relate her voice
I see things like Squirrel Girl in MH (looking forward to that), but I don’t see anything specific for Guild Wars 2?
The only thing that bothers me is the “die die” voice. I happened to glance down and see that was what she was saying. Before that, it sounded like she was a 3 year old walking around a house with a crayon in each hand and arms outstretched so she could reach the walls and draw on them as she moved, “Dun dun dun dun dun…”.
I don’t think I want any of the recipes. There’s those Gear boxes that take 30, but also 30 silver. How often do those drop an Exotic? Are they mostly rares which end up selling for 2/3 that cost?
Or should I just vendor my sprockets at this point?
Ok, thanks again.
In the Heart of the Mists you can fight sparring NPC’s of all classes, and use a finishing move on them. You can use them to check out all of your finishers.
Thank you. But I presume there you aren’t allowed to wear any of your PvE armor?
So there’s nothing, even at that ‘Hall of Memories’ place, where they ‘teach’ you how to do a finishing move as part of that introductory stuff where I could just go back there and do it, hunh?
Sadly I don’t have friends that play any more.
Edit: Actually that wouldn’t work either, as I wouldn’t be able to wear what I want there, which is also largely part of the point of the screen shot. It would have to be WvW then, if there is no place to just do it in the PvE world on some object. That will likely not happen.
Thanks anyways.
(edited by notebene.3190)
Is there any way to go watch all your finishing moves in the privacy of your home city or some such thing? I’d like to get a screenshot, but it’s hard to get a good one in the thick of battle.
I’ve been playing another game a lot recently. Not a replacement for this game, a different type of game altogether. How good or bad that game is and what you think of that game is completely irrelevant to what I’m about to say.
I want communication.
I want the level of communication and community interaction those folks have with their customers in this game.
Even if you don’t like the answer, they explain everything in great detail, why they did certain things, why they are having issues with some other things. Now, they also engage the community about design choices (or they cleverly mask it at any rate), and maybe ‘design by committee’ isn’t something we want to see here, I don’t think I do, but there is a whole other level of communication that could be engaged in that isn’t.
Even down to the smallest things, like why they made it so Plush Griffon couldn’t swim. Tiny, I know, but I paid ‘real’ money for that item. Now it’s an annoying item, because I have to conjure him every time I get out of the water, instead of once per zone. A first world problem? Yeah, but the thing is, energy was put into taking his swimming ‘away’. He uses to swim. They felt they needed to spend money on ‘fixing’ that. Why?
That is just a tiny example. How about the new transmute preview? Is that a bug? If it’s not a bug, why? What could you possibly have been thinking to make the preview (in almost nearly all cases, since transmuting is largely about getting a look) be the stat or base item and not actually how it looks?
It would be nice to ask questions, and get answers.
You can’t see how a transmuted piece of armor actually looks. It looks like the piece from the stats you used.
I see someone posted a quote from the wiki patch notes, and if this is ‘not’ a bug, I’d really like to know what the reasoning behind this was, and if no one thought that this would be a problem.
Otherwise, it’s a bug, and seriously annoying if we have pieces we transmuted to whites and banked months back, we have no idea what they really look like now.
This ‘really’ better be a bug. I just tested this. This is crazy messed up, I don’t even know where to start?
Maybe nerfing Plush Griffon’s swimming ability wasn’t enough. Sure, he can’t solo keeps in WvW any more while his owner was logged out for the night, but he just ‘looks’ too awesome.
On a serious note, why? Why would they do that? If you transform something off to a white to make it account bound for another character and bank it, and come back a month later, you can’t tell what the skin was through the preview, unless you spend a stone to burn it. Figure out that’s not the one you wanted then spend another stone to burn it back off to a white and bank it?
I suppose crystal sales will be up. It’s kinda like adding RNG to previewing.
Can’t believe I figured out a good place for this quote, but here goes:
“Could be lunch meat, could be peaches. Who knows? The point is this…”
Were those always there, or are those relatively new? I’m at the end of the Demongrub Pits puzzle looking over the centaurs and it’s raining pretty hard now. I also recall seeing some nasty snow storms in Frostgorge that I don’t remember. I kinda like ’em.
Thanks folks.
Made it to ‘confront scarlet’ but I can’t seem to take out the first patrol of 2 twisted and a veteran aetherblade. I’m just too squishy as a Staff Elementalist, I guess. I have 17,500 health and 1600 toughness. Guess I need to have a double-secret zerker build with knives and zippy-move training.
You don’t need a group for this dungeon. It’s incredibly easy. I think you can destroy the items now that you have the achievement.
Well, now people were saying the first 2 waves of that thing in the last deal where we were voting was easy, and I could barely do good enough in a group to help.
So is it ‘that’ kind of easy, or like Super Adventure Box easy? Because my easy might not be your easy.
Translocator Beacon
Focusing Crystal
Oscillating Diaphragm
Positional Relay Beacon
(sadly, no continuum transfunctioner)
I’ve completed all of the little guys events, opened the portal. I can go now (assuming I can find a group to take me).
Do I need to hang on to those 4 things for something else?
I still don’t know why they don’t make DEs more rewarding, at least some sort of ‘once a day’ thing, like chests from bigger events like SB or Wurm. It would at least be remotely helpful to have folks coming through every so often actually helping with the content while you are leveling to make it feel more alive.
I for one would love to roam around the landscape helping with DEs if there was a reward for doing so, like dungeons. I can’t stand the stale paradigm that rewards can only be handed out to people in dungeons. Even if there were a substantially increased cash reward once a day from every DE, and maybe a chest with an item at the end of some of the bigger chains or something, that’d be great.
You can get more money running sanctum sprint than just participating in DEs. That’s silly.
P.S. – There’s no reason why Plush Griffon shouldn’t be allowed to swim! :p
I had fun with the Jubilee stuff and now the Clockwork stuff. Still have lots to do. I’m just wondering if this is what the year anniversary is supposed to be, and they wanted to mask it as in game celebration of something else, or if there will be any sort of “4th wall” broken type celebration?
Thanks.
Its good you don’t even have to hit her to get the achievment. I was jusr around her and it pinged.
Maybe you have to be around her long enough. I was around, and even got a shot off at her and saw the damage right before she died, but did not get the achievement myself.
I wouldn’t mind if she had far more hit points.
Is that all that it does? Is it used in a component for something else?
Shoot, I did my dailies already. Guess I’ll see what’s up after 5.
Thanks!
Like there were with the last event to help with the meta?
The last, maybe, three updates have all been between about 9am – 12pm P{?}T.
Thanks, I will!
You only get one of the bags per day from each champion, correct? If you kill a champion you already kill in that day, do they drop anything? If so, what?
I ask because I’m starting to see the same usual suspects roaming around Frostgorge on my server in a pack and they keep visiting the same champions over and over again and I’m wondering if they must be dropping some extraordinary things to be killing them repeatedly in a day?
Alright, thanks. There was that MF food, of which I have 200, which is going to all go away sadly, so not much sense in buying that any more. Not really sure what I’ll do.
Is there anything I can do with them at this point? They don’t seem to fetch much on the TP. Should I just open them all? Is there anything I can still buy with Taffy?
I’d love if the Plush Griffon I bought (with real money) would have his ability to swim (glide, run in place, whatever) restored so I’m not left with an awesome looking pet that I paid for that I have to conjure every 4.2 seconds.
Ok, a bit hyperbolic, but then again not so much.
I’d also like to buy some communication and support, if that can be sold in the store. Whether you like the game or not, I have lately been really spoiled by the folks at Gaz.
Oh, and (more hyperbole) I could use some NPC bots to help me kill Claw that aren’t all “We’re the 1%!” with their Free Gordon Gekko T-Shirts and signs. That would also be nice. :p
Zhaitaffy, Fortune Scraps. While you can eat the former, they are really just used to buy things? Especially the latter, which you can’t sell on the TP. Why isn’t there a wallet space for at least some of those?
Thanks. I waited for 2 different ones to show up in Queensdale, so I’m assuming I can just keep doing it here until I get that 5th one? I still don’t really know which I need, so I guess I’ll keep killing them until I figure it out. At least I’m down to 1 now.
Status: 3/5
1. How do I know which 2 I need?
2. What are their names? I’m looking at a ‘Lightning Blade’ now, and I don’t know if I’ve done this fellow yet or not?
3. Maybe he has one of the diving goggles I’m missing?
[Ok, but I really could use some help with 1 and 2, unless it really is like 3, and why do they keep doing that. :\]
I’m at a balloon in Gendarran and there is a champion there named ‘Champion of the Heavy Hammer’ and he just spins at me and then resets?
Is he broken and I just need to travel around the world to find ones that work?
I have to admit that this 4 week theme + 2nd timed release 2 weeks in living story path is starting to get a bit overwhelming. I barely have enough time to get my dailies done and make sure the monthly is done, as well as do everything required for the metas that pop up every 2 weeks, and I’m unemployed.
I have a bad feeling I’m just going to have to stop playing altogether when/if I pick up work again. I think the frustration of ‘missing’ things at that point will drive me to not want to do anything, which is super sad.
I was wondering if anyone knows if they have plans to change how skins and Crystals operate in the game? I see people in chat talking about new ‘collection’ types (or something different) coming for anything you ‘spend’ to buy something (as currency) so we don’t have stacks of them in our bags and bank (like dungeon tokens, living story ‘things’, etc), and thought maybe they mentioned something about ‘skinning’ in the same source(s)?
The new Zenith skins seem a step in the right direction. You learn it, and you can just apply it whenever to change your look without needing another physical item with it’s own properties.
As it stands now, I have 3 different looks, maybe up of 3-4 pieces (boots, chest, lets and maybe back). To compound the problem, 2 of those looks are tied to physical items that have ‘real’ stats and one is tied to a set that is for Magic Find. Now, at some point MF will go away, so that might be moot, but even if all 3 were on ‘real’ stat items, that’s still 8 more items I have to craft/buy besides burning a Crystal ‘and’ having to have the bag space for it. What if I wanted 10 different looks?
I was wondering if anyone knows if they plan on maybe making a change to how the Crystals work (as an idea) to let us ‘burn’ a look into memory, so it becomes something like a Zenith skin (without destroying the item), and then we can just use them whenever we feel like over our real items?
I suppose they might be hesitant as it would be a potential loss of Crystal use, but I would argue that ‘more’ people would be inclined to burn a ‘lot’ of different items with Crystals just to mem the look before selling the item, increasing their profits. And if they wanted to make these skins ‘per character’ to increase their profits, so be it!
Crystals would still be used to ‘merge’ items. Or maybe if it’s easier to still ‘kill’ the item, but mem what you pick as the look that first time, that’s fine too. The only downside I see is a drop in market value potentially for some items because once you mem’d a look, you’d never need to go back and buy an item again to go ‘back’ to a look. But honestly, how much of the market is that? Do people burn crystals and in game gold every day/week buying items out of the TP to change their look? I bet that fraction of the market is ‘very’ low.
It’s just ‘terribly’ inconvenient and cumbersome and ‘in game’ gold and space costly as it is now, and was hoping someone heard of possible changes coming in this area?
nm. guess you have to sneak all the way down to the water and sneak up when there’s no goo and red marks and rez her before all the other nasties get mad.
Lots of goo all around, seemingly endless waves of undead and my Guardian with either a 2 Handed Sword or a Mace + Shield.
Any sort of strategy? I don’t recall having any sort of issue with my Elementalist or Ranger, but it’s been a long time.
Will all the items, catchers, etc, anything that can be bought with scraps carry over to the BL vendors or someone? Or even stay in that zone (if the ship leaves and the zone stays)?
I have enough for a catcher back, but can’t decide which I want, and if I don’t ‘have’ to be in a hurry to decide and can buy it a year from now with my 150 scraps, well then I’d rather just wait?
Thanks.
How hard is it to give the patch notes to the patch notes person so they might post it in the Game Updates forum ‘and’ the wiki so they are ready to read at the 3 minute ‘kick you out’ phase?
Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks.
