I’m having a pretty good time myself.
I have failed twice and won once (my second time on an overflow).
The wurm seems a bit insane for me, and that will easily be one of those things best done with one of those cross-server coordinated thingies, I bet, but I’ll easily be able to get the 3 escorts done for the living story side, so that seems nice.
My only negative, and I’ve harped on this before, is the difficulty ‘sub-tracking’ achievements. I have done 4/5 of the warden kills, but I have ‘no’ idea which is the one I need. Not a ‘huge’ deal in this case, as you don’t really have a ‘lot’ of control over which lane will get any particular warden, because of a failure in any lane before you, but something to keep in mind moving forward.
Now, if I can just get all my mini pets to swim and my human female running animation back, I’ll be 100% happy again. :p
op this is not the first time the running animation has changed- the one now is more like it was before it was changed the time before.
I prefer this one since it looks a lot more natural and the previous one had a very strange hop going on with the arms pinned to the sides- now at least it looks like my humans are actually going somewhere when they run- instead of just hopping in one spot
I thought it was cute and had a lot of style to it. And yes, I do miss it. Some people have suggested it was ‘just’ the arms, and there was more to it than that, and you described it well. Though, not with the same affection I would have described it.
And yes, I also suggested they add a feature to just let us pick. I mean, they have the two methods now, it could just be an attribute like hair color. Later, they could add runs for other sex/race combinations. A skipping Asuran would be hilarious. What a great thing to sell in the gem store.
But I do miss it. The thing that is more baffling to me is the complete lack of communication on it. Something prompted the change, what was it? Why was there never a patch note, developer blog, CM post on a 1000+ post of outrage over the old animation? I saw ‘none’ of that.
I tried asking support, and was dismissed and ‘effectively’ ignored by suggesting I come here and post to get an official response, like that would happen.
So (almost) every day, I just keep submitting in game bug reports on it. I’m sure they all get a good laugh at my expense, and that’s fine, I guess. Wouldn’t be anything new.
What are the most popular zones to get “Energy Probe Dismantler” done?
Which servers at (looks at wrist that has no watch on it) 12:28pm Arizona time (11:28am P[S/D]T) have at least one other person possibly loitering around said probes that could assist with them?
I’m on Emhry Bay up in Hrathi, thought it would be a quick run to come up here after doing one in Gendarran near LA, but alas, no one is here, and no, I can’t solo it.
Was hoping I could just guest on another server that maybe had someone farming it or something so I don’t waste my trip up here.
And then get an idea as to which ones people are using more often than others so I don’t waste my time going to zones not being used for the last 2.
Thanks
It could just be about timing. I’m sure they’ve been working on the mechanics for the fight for months. Well before they started thinking about what to do with Beserkers and the new stat changes.
I am honestly expecting a Scooby Doo ending…when Scarlet says “And i would have gotten away with destroying the world if it wasn’t for those pesky kids and their charr!”
They don’t use a charr… they have a dog still.
That is epic.
This is probably a stupid question, but where do you go to see the discussion of the proposed changes? Under the assumption this is something they said, and not conjecture on our part?
I wouldn’t be interested in this at all.
Which means you are in luck, and it will probably happen.
Swimming with my mini-pets and enjoying how I run! :p
I was told by support to submit an in-game bug as a response to a concern I have (and am still having 3 months later).
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with gleaning whether or not they actually read those, or if it’s a black hole?
Restore it to what it was for the first 14+ months of the game. I assume it’s a bug, as there was never a patch note, developer blog, or community team member response to long, heated 1000+ post thread (T3 Cultural Outrage Style) that sheds any sort of light on why it was changed.
Since there are probably some people that enjoy your bug, consider making running animation a character trait, just like hair style of eye color. Something you pick at character creation. Can be changed with a make-over kit. Those of us who would like to be changed back to the old way can submit a ticket for a free kit. Then you can start dreaming up things like a ‘skipping Asuran’ for people to buy.
Choices and options please, not force-fed values.
Or, in this spirit, if it’s not a bug, you could just honestly explain ‘why’ it was done. I would like to know the ideals and values of a company I’m doing business with so I can best decide how that relationship will continue.
My old running animation and a plush griffon that swum. Good times.
Six. One is Norn and the other five run silly. For no reason, that I can ascertain. NASCAR, perhaps? :|
All skins should be memorized like a dye, to be used whenever you want at no charge.
If they want to make it per character, that’s fine.
When you use a transmutation crystal or stone, not only should it do what it does now, but the source used for the look should be memorized like a dye so if all you a
Want to do is apply that look later, you can. Just like those Zephyr skins.
As it stands now, I’ll have to make a full set of ascended, and then 6 more pieces (2 chests, legs, boots) to cover the 3 looks I like to have.
What I’d really want is to be able to have 20 looks, without carrying around and building all that armor, simply by stopping and applying the skins to each piece from my wardrobe.
I’d still have to pay one time to learn each piece (and this is where I can see them wanting to do this by character, and I wouldn’t blame them), but then I would just know it, like a dye.
1. Change the human female running animation back to how it was for the first 14+ months of the game.
2. Make running animation a character attribute, like hair style or eye color.
3. Put the new running out as a variant to select at character creation, for those (few? I never saw a “T3 Cultural Armor” sized outrage thread at how we were running for 14 months, or a developer blog, or patch note discussing why it had to be changed) who don’t like the way running was for the first 14 months.
4. Total makeover kits can be used to change your running animation.
5. Dream up new running animations for all the other classes as options, with some only available I the gem store. Profit.
Not exactly sure when this started, past week or less?
It throws me out with a 7:11:3:191:101.
Only in Wayfarer (so far), and even if something big isn’t going on, like Maw (though I got a double-disconnect in the middle of fighting him yesterday.
This morning, I was at the event with the veteran wurm before you collect the eggs from the cave.
What I’d like to see is moot.
What we will get are changes to things we didn’t ask for, with no explanation as to why they were changed, or if the change was intentional and whether it will be changed back.
My characters’ running animation.
Honestly, as a female myself, I like the newer animation better. The old one looked like my character was intentionally trying to break the pavement with her feet or her feet with the pavement. It also had her center of gravity/mass moving side to side, making me expect that she was going to fall over sideways any moment from an amplification of the harmonic resonance. I find the running animation for the Sylvari females even more appealing in its fluidity.
That’s fine, some people like the old way, some people like the new way.
I’m assuming it’s a bug, since there is no patch note about it.
If it was intentional, was the best way to solve a “some people like it the old way, and some the new way” to take away something that ‘the old way’ camp enjoyed for 14+ months, without offering any sort of explanation as to why?
And at that, why not just make it character attribute (as I suggested in the suggestion forum), like hair, eye color, etc? I mean, what a great opportunity to play around with some different animations and maybe make some money in the store.
I’m sure I’ll never get the old animation back. And no, it’s not very fair. Just like the people who cried foul at the T3 Light Cultural Human becoming something you could buy in the store, how is this sort of change really any different? I know there isn’t any gold involved, but we’re talking about something that existed a certain way for over 14 months and then all the sudden changed, for no reason.
Were there some people that complained about the old animation, and they changed it? Where was the notification that this was a ‘possible’ change after people complained about it (if that is the case) to give those of us who liked the way it was a chance to voice our opinion?
It’s sad and ridiculous.
What is more sad and ridiculous is throwing around phrases like ‘collaborative development’, but not having the courtesy to offer any sort of real reason as to why something in the game was changed so drastically. I don’t care what the reason is. If the reason is that the old running was in some way demeaning or offensive in some way, or perhaps was the cause of all the imbalances in PvP since the first day and they ‘finally’ tracked it down to the human female running animation (phew!), then just say it. Lay the philosophy out there so we know the values of the company are so good or bad, as customers, we can all make an informed decision about how we feel about those values, and all move on from there.
That’s all I’m asking. I’ve been posting bug reports in game every day for the past month, and I’m sure they are just throwing them away and getting a good laugh. It’s disrespectful. It’s almost not even about the animation itself (though, I do want it changed back). It’s about their attitude.
Still bugged. Still no explanation. Were we deluded for 14 months and not successfully running after all, and they fixed that for us?
There’s a skritt snowball fighter in Lion’s Court you can hit 10 times. Or buy a pack of snowballs from the Ugly Sock/Sweater/Hat vendor and head over to Queensdale. There’s a skritt cave near the garrison.
The first part worked great for me this morning, thank you!
Though, I suppose I should have tried it before I bought the package of snowballs. :|
1 toypocalypse run and you’ll get this early + other achievements. You don’t need to touch the things in open world. Too slow and grindy when all stuff is done much easier. Even if you want to gifts it probably is not a good way to do open world gifts.
I might not get a chance to go this year to toypocalypse. In the event I don’t get to go, I thought I’d knock some of these out. I was just logging in a character near a box every so often while I was switching to other characters to work on other daily pieces and just tool around working on leveling them and completing maps. It’s just something different and seasonal to do to break things up for me.
All the sudden, killing toys that come out of the big packages in the world aren’t counting towards my count for Toy Quality Control.
Edit: And then it started working again? Are some of the things that come out of the box ‘not’ toys? Like when the skritt appear, those don’t count?
Nope, skritt are not toys. They are skritt.
That’s what it was, thanks.

I though of a 3rd thing. I wish they would read these.
There are a lot of great things about the game. It’s why I play it.
But it’s largely getting over shadowed for me these days by a lack of communication with and respect for the player base that plays the game and spends money in the store.
To me, it’s a bit like AT&T when they were the only ones that had the iPhone. The things you list, and other things I can think of? That’s the iPhone.
Support telling you to post in forums to have your questions answered, then asking those questions in the forum and having them completely ignored and dismissed. Collaboration? I’d look to the folks working Marvel Heroes for a much better example of how to collaborate with your community. All that is AT&T.
So yes, I agree. They have an iPhone.
But all the rest is AT&T.
I’d ‘love’ for them to start communicating better and provide a way to just answer simple questions that deserve answers. They did a great job with listing out the reasoning behind all the class changes and why. That’s great! We can read what they are thinking, and make a decision about whether we believe in those decisions or not, and continue to play the game or not, depending on how our own needs and desires align with theirs.
But then there’s something like the human female running animation.
Why was that changed? Where are the patch notes? Where is the statement (like all those class changes) explaining why, after 14 months or so, they felt it had to be changed? Was it the cause of a bug that threatened the in game economy? Perhaps it affected WvW balance? What is your philosophy as to why ‘that’ changed, so we can make an informed decision about how to proceed?
I just want one thing. One little thing.
Communication.
There are a lot of simple questions out there that deserve honest answers.
It doesn’t even matter what that answer is, just answer it.
Case in point: Human Female Running Animation. I still don’t know whether it’s a bug or not. It was never in the patch notes, a developer blog, a ‘Letter from Chip McImportant’. I ‘think’ it might be intentional because they keep doing little things to fix things that were broken ‘around and by’ it, like the way some sheathed weapons behave. Why bother spending time on that when you could just go in source control and roll the animation back to ‘fix it’, and all is well?
So…probably intentional at this point.
But…‘why’? I’d like to know why it was changed.
There are lots of little things that could be answered that would save people a ‘lot’ of time and frustration with the game. Make a stand. Make a statement. Let us understand what your philosophy is by taking ‘all’ these answers and statements into consideration and make our own decisions.
It would also probably reduce a lot of clutter, people asking the same questions over and over again.
So that’s my one wish.
Well, I guess if I the female human running animation change isn’t a bug, then a second thing I’d hope for is that they add it as a character trait. So we ‘pick’ how we want our character to run when creating it (or via a makeover kit). It would start with the two versions of the human female run, but could be expanded to other sexes and races with some interesting options and combinations. And, I’d bet people would pay money to buy make over kits, to say…be able to let their Asuran skip?
Me…I’d just like the old animation back on all my characters. I don’t like the new animation. It was the way it was for 14 months, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why they felt they needed to change it.
Which, is why I’d just like some communication.
Why don’t you have a few people work on coming up with a daily or weekly Q/A summary that lists various questions with answers that people have asked in the forums. Ones that go completely unanswered.
I have my own selfish question or two (which I won’t bother repeating here), but came across one asking about the toy frames from last year and how they saved them all year, taking up space, and they would have just thrown them away…had they known.
There are some pretty ‘simple’ questions out there in the forum that you can just answer, one way or the other, which would go a long way towards us really believing you care about any of us out here that are playing your game and spending money in your shop.
Thank you.
Continues to be bugged.
I was told, once, not quite a month back, by a support person that they ‘checked with the devs’ and the running animation change on the human female was a bug. Which, presumably meant it was going to be ‘fixed’ at some point.
Since then, there’s been efforts to make some sheathed weapons behave better with it (recently the 2-handed staff was altered to behave sheathed as it did with the previous running animation), but nothing to just … put it back to what it was.
I submit bug reports, every day, in game. I’ve submitted support tickets since the one I got back indicating that the devs had mentioned it was a bug (which, is now suspect), and I get back canned responses, or when I do get a human, they tell me to post in the forums.
So I posted in the suggestion forum, wondering why they don’t treat the running animation as hair, body type, skin color, etc, so we can pick which running animation we like (for those of use who loved the animation we had for the first 14 months of the game), and those people who like the new one could keep that.
Nothing.
Posted it as a bug, and posted in others’ bug reports on the same topic, no response there.
So these ‘Living Story’ forums seem to be ‘the place’ where all new things are discussed (and more red posters post), so I’ll try here. Yes, I know we’re not supposed to ‘fish’ for red posts, but I’m out of options here.
Question: Why?
That’s it. If you aren’t going to change it back, it was presumably done on purpose (though, there were not patch notes or developer blogs on the subject), and therefore…why? Why was it done? And no, ‘Immersion Breaking’ isn’t an answer (plus you used that on the Plush Griffon not swimming already, which was, well, yeah).
Just a real honest answer as to what transpired that made the change necessary. And why nothing was said about it. That’s all I’d really like to know at this point. It would at least allow me to make an informed decision as to how to proceed with my relationship with the game and the company.
Now, I’d happily submit it as a support ticket, but I’ll need to know the trick to not get it more or less ignored. Snail mail? Is there someone I could write to? A phone number I could call?
Don’t think it’s too much to ask. Something about the game changed. That’s fine. Why aren’t we allowed to know ‘why’?
P.S. – and of course, I’d still love you to change it back (assuming it wasn’t changed to solve a gross DPS imbalance in PvP, which seems silly). And barring that, please consider making it a character attribute and let us pick. Think of how much money you could make selling make over kits to people who would like their Asuran to skip?
Thank you.
Well I see the staff doesn’t swing across the body any more.
I’d still like to know ‘why’.
I don’t think it’s an unreasonable question. I have asked support 4-5 times, and each time I get combinations of canned responses and other telling me to please post the question in the forums.
Like someone would respond here.
What is so hard about giving us a real, honest answer as to why it was changed? It’s not unreasonable to ask. It doesn’t matter ‘what’ the answer is, so long as it’s honest, and the reasons and events that transpired that led to the decision. I’d honestly like to know. Good, bad or indifferent.
And no, ‘immersion breaking’ is not an answer.
Since they are going out of their way to fix things ‘around’ the running, I would presume it won’t be changed back, which is really sad. I suggested in the suggestion forum that the running animation be turned into a character attribute like hair, body type, eye color, face, etc. Then you can pick the running style you want with your character. It would also open up some interesting possibilities for future gem shop items. Imagine being able to purchase a run for your Asuran where he skips!
Which makes me wonder if this is all about ‘values’ and not about money at all. And the fact that they just can’t give us an honest answer as to why it was changed, also about values, but also about money? Are they concerned that some people would leave if they knew the answer?
So what is it? Values? Keeping America safe? What happened?
Thank you very much, folks! I’ll try both.
I have a 47th level Thief, and I’m really struggling with it.
I’m basically following this for the time being, 25/30/0/15/0.
I’m ‘constantly’ dying, and it’s getting frustrating.
I only play PvE. I’m just trying to clear areas and story. I’m in Dredgehaunt Cliffs now.
I can’t seem to take on multiple opponents, without using a shortbow and spamming 2 and hope when the explosions clear, I’m the last one standing. I mostly try to use D/P, after trying various combinations. That so far seems the most fun, at least. Using 5/2 to sneak in and start the fight with a back stab. 4 is handy to interrupt.
I’m just getting pummeled out there. Veterans are particularly hard, with some doable if they don’t hit me very hard other than their main attack (which I can interrupt). In particular, and the straw that broke the camel’s back for me today, is a Veteran Dredge Oscillator guarding a skill point in the SE of the DC map. I just can’t keep in enough initiative to interrupt him and avoid taking so much damage.
I’m using signet of malice as my heal, and 3 other signets mostly for the passives, as I haven’t really learned how to use the other things (agility, assassin’s, infiltrator’s).
My main is a Staff Elementalist. My 2 other 80s are a Ranger (shortbow and axe/horn, primarily) and a Guardian (2h sword and 2h hammer and staff), with the Ranger probably being my 2nd best. My Ele is 0/10/0/30/30, as a point of reference. She is really survivable, which this Thief doesn’t seem to be at all.
So, I’m just looking some help. Maybe some sort of beginner or 1-80 PvE mode where I’m much more survivable and can clear content. Or, if I will just have no hope of ever playing one, that’s fine too. I bought her some really expensive outfit pieces from the store, but I can use the trick to transfer them to a new Engineer or something. I was hoping to successfully play one of each character (I have a Mesmer and Warrior as well, which don’t have anywhere ‘close’ to the problems I seem to be having with the Thief).
Thanks.
I can not support designers who willingly make you look like you’re working on a street corner.
It’s already getting quite toxic in here because all of you seem to get the wrong impression of what I am expressing.
Right out of the gate. It was quite clear what you were trying to express. Quality wasn’kitten You can try some other words, but “you look like you’re working on a street corner” is going to over shadow that.
No. You don’t like it, don’t buy it and ask Arenanet to make more armor instead of trying to force them to change existing art.
More options, not more alterations.
My significant other plays this game almost as much as I do, and she has this skin on two of her characters. She loves it. People have different tastes.
Also consider that people should not be kept away from the highest tier human medium amor just because someone decided to put in game a design that belongs in a 90’s sleazy magazine.
Well, the original sentiment in your response was nice, but then you do an about face in the second paragraph. “I’m not saying your trash, not at all. I’m just saying you look like you belong on the cover of a 90’s sleazy magazine.”
If the intention of the thread is about choices and options, I could get behind it. I don’t want you to have as your only option be to dress in something you are not comfortable wearing. In that respect, I hope they provide some more options that you find acceptably sexy that you aren’t embarrassed to dress your avatar in.
By the same token, I would hope you would respect that for over a year, many people also enjoy the existing T3 armor, and would object to having it changed.
As I would like to see people get more ‘modestly’ sexy outfits and non-sexy outfits, I would also expect there to be more crazy sexy outfits as well.
At first, I thought the thread was about choices and options, but it seems more like it’s an effort to push your values on other people, and I think that’s wrong.
The game has had all these things in it since release. We can all login, see what it is. If it’s not to our liking, we can choose not to play it. I wish the 2nd incarnation of Final Fantasy XIV wasn’t about the military industrial complex, forced group content, pidgeon holing classes and roles, and forcing those roles to only be allowed to use certain armor. Those were some ‘huge’ changes from the original that kept me away from it. I saw what they were doing, I didn’t like it, I elected not to play again.
Now, if you end up winning this battle, and mobilizing your efforts in such a way that you successfully petition Arenanet to enforce values that are more inline with you life choices upon the rest of us (much like was apparently done with the human female running animation without any sort of explanation behind closed doors), then I will be the one who has the choice to make.
(edited by Moderator)
This has nothing to do with religious nor archaic beliefs and no matter what you say it will not change the fact that this armor is tastless. If a minimal modification to the chest piece to cover up this unnecessary underboob will outrage the community, that only says a lot about the priorities of the said community.
But if people are so attached to their characters’ breats hanging out from their armor, then it would be nice if arena net could introduce the option to select a more tastefull option at the cultural vendor.
When your options are to look like a nun or pure trash, there should be some middle ground.
Sure, more choices and options so everyone has something they enjoy without infringing on other people’s choices and options by removing existing items, or providing more items that some people might enjoy and others may not in the future.
As long as it’s about providing more choices and options, and not taking away choices and options, then I’m all for it.
Didn’t bother reading this thread.
But I think anet should work on decreasing the inflation instead of taking away things people… ehm.. likes? doing.
This is a major problem with this game, people will always select the most steady and optimal way of making gold over doing other things when it’s gold they’re after.
Why would someone stay to do a generic event without champions for making 2.41 silvers and 200 karma anyways, when it’s possible to kill 3 champions in that time and make 20+ silvers and more karma.
Which is why (DR discussion and issues aside) all things should be equally rewarding for the same amount of effort. And there is no extra effort in doing speed runs of dungeon paths, before someone starts in with the whole risk/reward thing, which might have been true in 1999 or 2004, but it’s just non-existent, at least in this game. I’ve been on those speed runs. It takes the same effort (though often more time) to roam around and get your daily done.
DR aside (they will do what they will do to govern how much money comes into the economy), I should be able to make the same amount of money doing my daily for 2 hours, or doing some DEs across the world for 2 hours, or doing easy dungeon speed runs for 2 hours, of WvW for 2 hours.
Then everyone just picks what is fun (or socially pressured to do in their virtual communities), and you start collecting some real metrics.
If everything was fun and profitable in it’s own right (and in the same way), then everyone would naturally spread out and do whatever they find to be fun and enjoyable, as all activities would produce the same rewards over time.
Risk/Reward is a sad aspiration. It subscribes to the fact that as humans, that’s all the better we are. Finding value in what we got that others can’t have. I was reading an interesting study that happened by my Zite the other day about how young children ‘inherently’ seem to understand fairness. Then western society sucks that right out of their poor souls.
I would love for the time I spend completing my daily each day to reward as much cash and rewards as doing as many ‘fast/easy’ dungeon runs that can be completed in the same time. And let’s not fool ourselves, those who spout the ‘risk/reward’ are also the same people that are doing as many of the fastest, easiest, minion skipping dungeons they can each day. Not because they are fun, but because they offer the best reward for as little ‘risk’ (time spent, repair costs, whatever you want to conjure up as being a ‘risk’ in a video game).
The people that tout ‘risk/reward’ really just want to ensure that money is tied up in the good old ‘have/have not’ systems of old so as to shape the economy in a way that suits their needs. You won’t ever see them offering solutions that spreads the wealth around to ‘many more’ activities. You see them posting about how champion trains themselves are inherently bad, listing out the reasons why, all in the guise of having that faucet removed from the game so the economy swings back in favor of those activities which give them an advantage over everyone else.
I personally don’t use the train that much. I ‘preferred’ the one in Frostgorge when I was doing them, but it seems to have dried up on our server. I don’t particularly like the patterns on a few other servers I tried.
Are they fun? Not terribly. I think people that do them would be hard pressed to describe them as fun (though, when people aren’t yelling at people who kill things out of turn, they sometimes have a fun social component to them). But for many of us, they are the only reasonable way to make any sort of wealth in the game without having to subject ourselves to more abhorrent game play.
Holy cow that’s awesome.
Players will also gravitate towards these kinds of simple mindless loot opportunities when they are in the game.
Unfortunately, this leaves many other engaging group events in the world untouched and other zones desolate.
If everything was rewarding, then it would spread everyone out a lot more.
What’s nice about a champ train (though, I don’t do it as much as I used to, save for completing the monthly, which it’s really handy for, especially in Queensdale, since most of the champs on the train have an event associated with it), is it doesn’t take much coordination to get into, and no one is yelling at you if you aren’t fighting correctly, or letting them die, or not DPS-ing enough, or have the wrong spec, or have an ‘experienced only’ requirement to do them…and they offer a little bit of a reward over standard content.
I’ve been on a few dungeon runs in GW2 (not many, as dungeons aren’t exactly my favorite thing to do, because of the type of play styles and personalities I often meet during such content), and they don’t seem particularly difficult compared to dungeons of games past. So why is there such a better reward related to them? The ‘risk/reward’ goes out the window, there is little risk. I’m more likely to be ‘not’ rezzed and left for dead in an open world event than a dungeon.
So rather than ‘shutting down’ the train, why not open up ‘all’ content so it has equal chance of rewards, once per day?
A dungeon takes ‘n’ amount of time to complete, and you get a guaranteed reward the first time you do it each day. Why don’t other events have this? Why is the daily worth so little cash, when it can take a lot longer to complete all the steps than doing one dungeon run?
If you spread it out and made ‘everything’ equally rewarding (with the same sort of DR mechanisms built in, like the dungeons have), then there would be no ‘one best way’, and everyone would spread out and do what is more ‘fun’ for them.
Now ‘those’ would be some interesting metrics to see after several months of that.
I think ‘the dungeon’ (in it’s greater reward mechanics, not inherently the content itself) is a paradigm that has no place in the genre anymore.
2nd disappointment (and i hope this is a bug that will get fixed asap) is that the new minis vanish when u go underwater. One of the few redeeming things i enjoy about minis is that they swim with me, as i spend fair amount of time underwater. if this is a bug plz fix it, if this is intended plz state that on this thread, so i know what is going on and if it is intended then i will be requesting a refund.
Thanks
What’s worse is the Plush Griffon from last year used to ‘swim’ (well, he’s either glide or run in place underwater, depending on his mood) and then after 4 months, the made him not swim. They actually put the effort into making him ‘not’ swim, and the best answer we ever got was that it was immersion breaking (pun notwithstanding).
I’m surprised to find out the fox and dog don’t swim. I assumed they would, as the lion and bear cubs swim, and figured they were using the same frame (the on land animations I’ve seen for the fox and dog thus far look very similar).
Collaborative development is cute in their world, but it doesn’t really mean much of anything. They have their set of values that they are going to impose on us (as is evident by another change recently that seems to have ‘no’ explanation or reason, other than someone deciding we need saving, or something), and that seems like that’s it.
I was kinda keen on that fox for my main, I guess I’ll have to go back to the lion cub for now. Interestingly, the little Asuran fighter pilot swims…but the quaggan ghost from the same set, can’t. Genius.
my female human runs like a rambo and my female asura constantly making an irritating sound. I’m having a real hard time getting used to these “changes”.
at first, I was pretty convinced that these weren’t intended but I’m not so sure now…
whoever responsible for these has too much time on thier hand.
if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
you should’ve spent that time fixing other bugs in game that’s being overlooked.
I get passive aggressively abused when I ask a simple question to support like: Why was it changed? Receiving an automated response within minutes after submitting a ticket to tell me to look it up on the wiki. The wiki.
No patch notes explaining it. Not official comment after practically begging for a ‘reasonable’ reason as to why the change was made. Nothing.
I can only assume it was a ‘values’ change, and that’s fine. I’d just like to know where they stand, like Barilla, so I can make my own choices based on whether I agree with their statement and values.
What baffles my mind is it was working fine for 13+ months, since release. Was there a silent protest we missed somewhere? I would have thought, much like the T3 fiasco, that there would have been ‘something’ in the community that preceded it, but nothing.
And why not make something that benefits ‘everyone’, if it was really such a problem with one silent set of people? Why not making the running animation a character trait, like hair or body type, and let us choose?
I’d love for it to be reverted back. I can see no reason as to why the change was made. And then spending resources to fix clipping issues related to it? Just revert it back.
I can’t decide whether it’s the change itself, the fact that they won’t say anything about it, or the principle of the whole thing makes me more irritated.
My best was a response to a thread discussion the cost of the moa races vs the rewards.
“Moa money. Moa problems.”
But I don’t have a lot of good posts, and they are getting fewer and far between as I started as a very happy customer and turned into a very unhappy and disappointed customer the past 3 or so weeks. Not much of my stuff to give a thumbs up to any more.
I’m pretty happy over at Marvel Heroes though so far. Regardless of how you feel about the game (and no, I don’t think it’s an MMO at all, just to be clear), they have a much better understanding of what the word collaborative means. Plus they just seem like nice folks that are excited about their own game and their community. I digress…
It’s frustrating. I even went so far as making this suggestion, wondering why they just didn’t turn running into a trait that you pick as part of character creation so we have ‘choices and options’, rather than be forced with a set of ‘values’ (assuming it’s not a bug).
I submitted tickets and responses, originally being told by one support member that they spoke with development and it is in fact a bug, to then being told that they were “sorry they can’t help me, and I should just go hang out in the suggestion forum”.
At the end, all I was asking for in the ticket was to either confirm it’s a bug, and that it’s on the radar of things to fix (though I don’t understand how they couldn’t just roll the animation back in source control).
If it’s not a bug, ‘officially’ tell us (not sure why there isn’t a patch note), explaining ‘why’ the change was made (i.e., a bug for 13+ months has existed that breaks the entire game and they ‘finally’ tracked it to the human female running animation, or “as a company, we feel we need values, and these are our new values, and we hope people that share our values stay with us, and if you don’t, we’re sorry…yada, yada”).
Support was unable to or unwilling to take the appropriate additional steps to secure a reasonable answer to either question.
I’m all about ‘choices and options’. If there was a big outcry about how the human females ran (for the past 13+ months, mind you), it was off in a quiet, underground forum. I never heard anything about it. Seems if it was intentional, it was a decision made by one or a small group of people. With no apparent game mechanic related to it, I can only assume it was some sort of ‘values’ change (barring, of course, an admission that it’s a bug and will be fixed).
But changing it in favor of one set of people at the expense of another ‘after 13+ months’, seems rather draconian. I’d rather they kept it as it was, then implement ‘running as a character trait’, and then implement the new running style as a secondary run animation for the human female. Those of us happy with the old one would keep it. Those who want the new animation could use a makeover kit to change themselves. Perhaps hand out a free kit to anyone that wants to change one time, I don’t know.
Newly created human females could select a running animation like you’d pick a body type, hair, etc.
It would open a ‘whole’ range of possibilities for other races, including fun things like an Asuran that skips as they run, or whatever, for the other races. Also seems like it would be a source of income as a gem store item. While I don’t think I should have to pay to change back, I would honestly pay upwards of $20 for each of my 5 characters to have my run back. Yes, it means that much to me, and more on principle, at this point.
But at this point, I’d just be happy with an official statement one way or the other. And if it’s ‘not’ a bug and won’t be reverted back, to know ‘precisely’ what decisions and input led to the change in the first place.
When someone approaches me to create them something, they always start by telling me what they want, and I have to get them to slow down and first start talking about what they are trying to ‘solve’, and then we’ll start talking about what we can make that will solve that problem.
So the human female running animation: What were they trying to solve?
I don’t see the point of a warrior running like a super model rather than an Olympic track star.
That’s not the point.
The point is to report it as a bug, as there was no indication of the change as intentional in any patch note.
If the change is intentional, then please provide information as to why, after 13+ months, the change was made, be it the resolution of a long standing game breaking bug that has eluded them for over a year, and was finally tracked to the human female running animation, or a quiet enforcement of a set of values on the community, again, after 13+ months or working just fine.
I’m personally willing to drop the whole thing and move on my merry way with an official response from the company one way or the other. I find it completely unacceptable to have this change and no reason behind it.
Without a statement, it is a bug, and should be fixed.
I was told it was a bug by someone at support, who claimed they asked the development team for me (at my request). If they are making fixes to 2-handed sword clipping issues while we run, rather than just reverting the animation change back, I can only surmise I was lied to.
If it’s not a bug, why isn’t it in the patch notes? Why don’t they tell us ‘why’ it was changed? If it was intentional, and merely some sort of ‘values’ change, I’d like to know that so I can make other entertainment arrangements.
It was working for 13+ months in one manner, and it was changed, for no apparent game functioning related reason, with no indication as to why.
V2P (Values to Play).
I’m just jealous that this topic received a definitive response (one way or the other) and some action.
I’d love to have that same courtesy regarding the stealth human female running animation change, whether that answer/action is in my favor or not.
I gave up using staves on my ele as the clipping caused by the new animation drives me mad.
Now she runs like a thug but at least daggers don’t pierce her back…
They fixed the issue with greatswords… and that’s that. Right now, I wouldn’t expect a fix anymore, for how easy it could be to rectify this.
The staff drives me nuts, but fixing ‘that’ doesn’t seem to be the issue to me.
There’s one of two things going on. Either the change in running is a bug, in which case, they need to fix that bug.
Or, the change was ‘intentional’, and then we deserve patch notes, and a reason explaining why, after 13+ months, it was changed.
I don’t think that is unreasonable, to have a definitive answer one way or the other. If it’s a bug, and it will be changed, and the clipping issues are temporary fixes (though I can’t imagine how hard it would be to roll the animation back in source control), then I’ll hang around and wonder why it’s taking so long.
If it’s a ‘values’ change or philosophical change that alienates one part of the community in favor of another (after 13+ months), that’s fine too, but I need to know that information so I can determine whether they are Barilla to me now.
Not saying anything serves no purpose other than to allow ill will to fester.
