Some of us enjoy existing content the way that it is. There is no reason to ‘remove’ content from some people to then give content to other people (which was a mistake with Teq, not the mechanics or the event itself, just that they ‘stole’ content to make it), but rectified with the 3 Headed Wurm event (new super world event, didn’t steal existing content).
Make a new Kekkek dragon from the L33td00dz Mountains that hands out stars that can be placed on your belly with all the crazy, hard mechanics you want.
Choices and options. There’s no reason why content should be designed around haves and have nots.
I thought this was going to be about something else, but I’ll post my response anyways.
Oxymoron.
Appropriate, and now healthier.
Interesting.
Don’t ask why?
Why, you may ask?

Suggestion 1: Have you ever heard the saying “If it works, don’t touch it”?.
They have not. Otherwise, they would never have spent all the time and money they did changing the human female running animation, and then additional time and money fixing the 2 handed sheathed weapons to work with their new animation.
When, they could have left the human female running animation alone, and used that time and money to make our old clothes work with the new system.
Which is why I still think this is about Values.
Everyone, I’m just as upset as most in this thread, but can we please keep it civil? As devs have said in the past, they care about the game and they do not make changes to “slap the community in the face.” Can we please not threaten them with any sort of violence and refrain from assuming they are out to spite or ignore the community? Even if you feel this way, it is not productive nor will it help the situation.
As others have said, it is likely this change is going through as there is not enough time to implement and test any alternatives. But if we can get some sort of communication about why the change was made or whether improvements will be made in the future to restore functionality, that would be greatly appreciated.
That’s fair, so long as they come out and tell us why.
1. Why remove those items from the store way back when?
2. If the issue is truly about spending time and money on getting combat animations for those specific pieces of clothing (which were some how mysteriously more difficult to do than other items), why spend any time at all on the ones you selected to make the cut?
3. Why spend all that time and money converting them to a mechanic (the tonic) that is inconvenient and clearly unacceptable?
4. If the initiative is ‘collaborative’, why wasn’t a discussion on this opened 4 months ago to let us hash through all the possible issues?
5. If it’s about spending time and money, why did you spend that time and money completely reworking the human female running animation after it was working just fine for 14+ months, and there wasn’t a dev blog or patch note about it, much less any sort of long rage post (much like this one, or the long one regarding the outrage over using T3 Human Light as the flame kissed set)?
I wouldn’t be so upset if they had a clearly understood agenda that equated to, “Hey, we make this game for ourselves and to keep our children safe. You can play it if you like what we do, and leave if you don’t.” But to start tossing around ‘collaborative’, and then only make posts about things they want to talk about, when they want to talk about it, complete with a guide on what combinations of verbs and nouns we’re allowed to use when speaking – the message is confusing.
I’m human. We love to see patterns where maybe patterns don’t exist. It is, however, really difficult to look at things that make the cut and things that don’t make the cut and not start forming a picture of a possible internal agenda.
Sure, it’s nice to have red posts clarifying how things will in fact work. The real problem is the ‘why’.
What if, it’s cross-server guild bonuses? For all you non guild leaders out there, guild bonuses and perks only work on the home server, so if you have members in another server, they might as well just get a new guild because they don’t get anything.
I was hoping something along these lines, but specifically in relation to my personal guild vault. It’s the only thing that keeps me on the server I’m on, that it doesn’t transfer.
LOL Endless Tonic of Khaki Cargo Shorts?
Reallly? Pls just make them individual costume items that people can still mix and match with….
The thing is, they want to make them as inconvenient to use as possible. While they, or someone, thought they were cute to make at one point, somehow the inner compass has changed, by whoever has the reigns now, and they are sorry they were ever made.
This is a way to keep them, but make them unfriendly and un-fun so we just stop using them altogether and hopefully delete them, apparently.
Why go do the trouble of making the tonic mechanic? Seems like a lot of extra work they went to there.
I guess because it’s not appropriate.

Right.

Pretty useful and pointed questions.
And they say nothing to help clear it up.
Instead, they let 1000+ comment posts fester to the point where insults are thrown, and then they close the thread down.
Why? Why not tell us, precisely, everything we need to know, complete with honest answers (immersion doesn’t count) as to ‘why’ it was done?
Unless they don’t want us to really know why, because if they walked out on stage and gave us a Barilla, or Papa John complaining about laying people off because of health care, they’d lose some folks.
Why not just say nothing and continue to passive-aggressively sneak in little change after little change to slowly eat away at the darkness infecting the game they are trying to morally save and inject with appropriate (I love that word, glad he used it) values so all our children will have proper compasses and Jesus can ride off into the Rapture on his 6000 year old dinosaur?
There will be armor that follows. You will also notice a lack of new types of available armor. The last sets of armor were … interesting, in that respect.
Just wish they had the decency to treat us with a little respect, the same they always like to demand of us, and make some honest statements.
They actually were answering questions in this very thread, right up until it devolved into nasty posts insulting them over what is, almost entirely, pure speculation on the part of the players.
Yes, they answered with some vagueness, the word appropriate, and when it was specific, it was just, “This is how it will work.”
Where’s the why?
There is an answer to that question, there always is. The why is in the meetings that led them to make the decisions that they do. That’s what is missing.
They won’t ever answer questions that explain the ‘why’, or anything that sheds any sort of light as to what they believe in, what their moral compass is, etc.

Great addition, dont do the tonics though…just make it all skins.
It doesn’t fit in with their 2+ year post launch passive aggressive westernization plans.
So wait. I rp on tarnished coast, and if you know me you would know when Im walking around DR, I am in a pair of pants, and sunglasses. Are you telling me I wont be able to do this any more?
Why not just have it where if we decide to put a clothing item on over our armor it will just simply make those armor pieces invisible so we can still mix and match our towns clothes?
Honestly anet. I do not like the sound of this.
There is no conceivable reason they even needed to remove town clothing and mixing and matching and still do whatever they were planning to allow you to use ‘some’ town clothing (sets, and as whats-his-face said, ‘appropriate’ clothes to go with single items that you use as a tonic). They don’t need to be mutually exclusive things.
What was the reason they gave months ago as the reason the removed most of the single item clothing from the store? To clean it up so they could offer some more things, or something along those lines?
That was a lie.
This is about slowly whittling away at existing content that doesn’t fit someone’s view of what is ‘appropriate’. It won’t happen all at once, but there will be things that follow. They need to align the content so it sends the right message for our children.
If they work like the halo, and we can still have those pieces of clothing, I’d be happy enough.
You’d be happy if every time you zoned, you had to double-click on 3 tonics in your bag to, say, put a shirt, shorts and boots back on? :|
I actually run around the world, in many cases, in my town clothes, if I’m gathering, or taking a long walk to, say, Frostgorge. Going into combat knocks them off, but after that’s over, a quick bound ‘shift-z’ toggles my town clothes back on again and off I go.
With this new system, I’d have to ‘shift-z’, which would make me naked, and then double click on 3 items in my bag to put my clothes back on?
I’m going to miss my characters. It just keeps piling up and piling up, little things that just don’t make any sort of sense, and them not caring about us at all as they march ahead and make posts about collaboration and demand we treat them with respect.
It’s the iPhone only available at AT&T. It’s awful.
3 double clicks being a hassle is beyond my comprehension as being a “hard task”.
Yes, it is. Every little thing they do that makes things annoying without any explanation, when they are asked repeatedly ‘why’. There’s no reason why the wardrobe can’t exist in addition to town clothing. There’s no reason the old pieces should have been removed from the shop. There’s no reason why they have to be tonics. There’s no reason, if they are getting rid of swapping to town clothing, that I shouldn’t then be able to create (presumably) a “4th” set of chest, pants, boots that I now have to carry around, and apply those 3 pieces that I bought, and enjoyed, since each piece was released to a new set, and just wear that around in lieu of having the ‘swap to town clothes’ taken away.
The endless tonic will grant the appearance of the clothing it replaced. (along with some appropriate complimentary pieces so you’re not naked). They are new tonics, not existing ones.
Only one tonic can be used at one time.
There will be no town-clothes swap any more.. so you won’t be switching to naked.
Can I still wear this?
http://i.imgur.com/vXM6dUe.jpg
If not, why?
Edit: No town clothes swap, just read that part. That’s sad. But…I guess I could have created a “4th” set of shirt, pants, boots and applied those 3 pieces to it and carried those around instead of tonics.
Why won’t you let me do that? No clipping I see there, looks fine. Why?

And then we need to burn a transmutation charge whenever we want to move from town clothes to a combat look. Not great for roleplayers.
There is no transmutation charge to change outfits or toggle it on and off.
Transmutation charges are for applying new skins to specific armor pieces, same as now.Yes outfits are all or nothing.
Yes wearable in combat. There will be no non-combat equipment anymore, unless you count tonics.‘Outfits’ are all or nothing. What about items that were sold as individual items?

(And what was wrong with the human female running animation?)
There is a complete inconsistency here, it doesn’t make any sense at all.
The article states that single items are usable as armor pieces instead of town clothing.
Single items, such as the Fuzzy Hats and Scarlet’s Spaulders, will be unlocked for your entire account and usable with any armor weight. Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.
All 3 of those pieces are no longer available.
How do I wear an Endless Tonic?
Remember, our experience with Tonics have been things like being a quaggan or the halo. Every time I zone, I have to fire up my halo again. Does that mean I’ll have 3 endless tonics that I have to carry in my bag for the vest, shorts and boots, and every time I zone, I’ll be naked, and have to put my clothes back on?
Why not convert everything that was ever available as something you can use?
Why were those pieces removed to begin with?
I see what they wrote, it’s cryptic, and doesn’t explain the ‘why’ of any of it. Why put the extra work into making some things tonics when they could just be added to the system? Is it because there is something philosophically or morally objectionable to those pieces?
None of it makes any sense.

The wardrobe really is whatever to me, it’s not something I’d use.
Town clothes… the pieces I got: riding clothes, khaki shorts, shirts, a vest. Loved them. And the mix and match aspect with the festival costumes.
Gone. Not “whatever,” not “fine.”In general, what of toys/costume brawl system?
I’d just like them to explain ‘why’ this is being done this way. I have a set I like to use for town clothes that consists of a vest, khaki shorts and the witches boots from the original Halloween costume.
Why am I not allowed to wear that any more? Jesus? America? To help ward off Neil Degrasse Tyson from poisoning our children on Sunday night? Really, why?
You can make a post that talks about collaboration, then make a sticky about exactly how we’re supposed to post in a collaboration thread, but refuse to answer simple questions about the reasoning behind some of your decisions.
It’s not very collaborative.
You get angry with us when we make negative comments about ‘you’, as a company, when we aren’t singling anyone out in particular, like it’s a personal attack. That’s fine, but if you are going to play that card, it’s a two way street. ‘We’ are an entity, and ‘we’ would like the same level of consideration.
We don’t quite know how it’s going to work yet, or what costume items are going to be affected. So just be patient and hope for the best
I have a sleeveless shirt, and gathering shorts. Neither are available, both will be affected.
A more important question is ‘why’ they felt they needed to get rid of them to begin with? Is the combination of getting rid of them, knowing they’d just make them tonics under this system, designed to make us ‘not’ want to use them?
My problem is I have 2 pieces of clothing, a top and a bottom, that I wear in the town clothes slot.
On April 15th, do I come in the game in my underwear with nothing but my town boots on, and every time I zone, I have to click two ‘endless tonics’ to put my shirt and pants on.
They are just terrible at telling us anything. Is the idea to make it so inconvenient to use the item that it discourages using things you got rid of?
And ‘why’ did you get rid of them? Some old shirts, shorts, pants. Why? Values? NASCAR? Balance the threat of Neil on Sunday nights now?
What about 250 for a Legendary item? Will that be changed? If I need 50 more for a Legendary, and you don’t tell us how (if) that will change, and before the 15th I go buy the remaining 50 I need with laurels and then you come along and say, “Surprise, you just need loaves of bread now in it’s place!”, do you think that’s terribly fair?
Collaborative.
Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.
How does that work?
Is the tonic something I have to keep in my bank and apply it to an existing piece of clothing (overriding it?) when I want to look that way?
Or is it like being a quaggan and every time I want to wear it I have to use that item?
That’s crazy, and unacceptable, if that is how it works.
It doesn’t seem like it solves what I was hoping it would solved, to avoid having to carry around 3 sets of chest, leg and feet armors – and wanting to carry around more.
Well, that’s not entirely true. Yes, I would not have to do that any more if I wanted to change my look whenever I wanted to, on the fly.
However, they key phrase in all my requests was – ‘like a dye’. In that, I was happy if they made me use stones and crystals (which you have to buy) to ‘unlock’ skins. I wanted to be able to use them freely, like a dye, without charge, whenever I wanted to, after I had unlocked the skin.
Those screenshots elude to not being able to change your look on the fly without restriction once you know a skin.
So I’ll have to carry around those 3 sets still, it would seem. And be limited to how many other looks I want based on bag space.
I’m also concerned about the line regarding town clothes about “items no longer available being converted to an endless tonic”. Like the halo? Every time I want to wear my old gathering shorts, I have to click a tonic item in my inventory? How will that work?
Simple YES/NO answers please. No need to explain your thoughts.
I would argue that just as my favorite statement in global chat in ‘any’ MMO is completely subjective, your question can’t be responded to with a simple ‘Yes/No’ answer, as it has no context.
“WTB good sword.”
Yep, still my favorite.
If by superior, you mean a grindy game with shallow combat and content that is so unrewarding that it’s simply easier to play the TP, then you’re right.
Now, before you yell at me, I’m saying ‘you’ are saying this, but it seems like when I see wording like this ‘in general’, it’s usually talking about.
‘shallow combat’: We want the Trinity back (and gear inspecting would be nice too) so we can get back to creating our little in game niche societies where we only let worthy people play with us, and only if we tell you how to play when playing with us (you are the healer; you are the tank) and we will tell you when it’s your fault that nothing worked properly (you didn’t tank right; you didn’t heal right).
‘content that is unrewarding’: …and once you get the Trinity back so we can start divvying up the appropriate star for each starbelly sneetch in the game, now please make all ‘good’ content (don’t worry, we’ll send you a list of what ‘good’ is) instanced for 5 person groups, with only the best rewards available in the hardest versions of those instances, and never available through other avenues (DEs, world events, living story, champion bags, personal story, gathering, etc), and ‘that’ will be rewarding content!
Voila!
It seems like there’s lots of stuff to do. Seems like there’s lots of fun stuff to do.
Though, if my aim was to make my perfect MMO a place where super hard instanced 5-person dungeons was the only place to get nice things, so only 1% of the population that could achieve such a feat are the only people that could acquire them, and all you ‘lesser’ folks (that ‘enjoy’ the rest of whatever that is) can’t, well then I guess that’s shallow combat and unrewarding content.
Again, not you, just always ‘seems’ like that’s what is being hinted at when I see phrases like this. Reminiscent of Republi-speak phrases you hear on certain news channels which serve as code.
Never understood why folks would want an MMO that functions like the world in that way, where ‘winning’ is measured not so much by what one has achieved, but by what one has that others don’t, or can’t, have. A virtual world has benefit of being able to make the pie bigger.
Or is that all the better we are? If so, it might be time to let the bees have a whack at it.
They had some fun town clothes, and then they got rid of them.
I suspect they will use the new system to some how eliminate the old town clothes, especially the fun ones, without explaining why our old town clothes can’t be used in the new system.
Sure, I will ask them why it was changed, but I will never get an answer, as I’ve never gotten an answer on two other things they’ve changed with seemingly no game play related issues.
I hope I’m wrong.

Well, I bought my precursor, with gold I earned myself in the game (not bought).
My problem now is trying to find anyone who will take me to Arah. The only things I ever see in LFG are:
1) Speed run – Experts Only (please provide references and phone numbers)
2) Pay me 6 gold – at last boss (kek kek?)
Now, I figure I need to go maybe 8 times, assuming what I read was true, that you get 70 for the first run each day, and I only go once a day. And honestly? I’d maybe even consider paying someone 50 gold, but not someone I can’t trust, and certainly not someone that wants the gold up front.
So…not really sure where that leaves me.
Is it possible to get ported there, or should I give up on this?
I have the puzzle done, but I’m currently deceased trying to get to the goggles. I think I’m still up high, and on the path on the way up to the chest.
I’m considering just staying deceased, and using another character on my dailies, and logging in periodically to see if anyone is doing the puzzle.
However, if it’s not possible to, say, get a lift from a Mesmer from where I’m at to the goggles, then I guess I’ll just abandon this and consider myself lucky getting this far (all the puzzles done, and most of them I did myself, save maybe 3?).
Really bummed I didn’t get the diving done before they added this ‘really’ kittene and decided to make that part of the meta, but I digress.
So, is it worth just hanging out here dead, under the assumption that maybe I could get a lift from a Mesmer some day up there, or best to just give up on the dream at this point?
Thanks.
Edit: I think I have my answer to this. Yes, you can get lots of help, but at the end of the day the jump itself is then hit or miss (or…miss ‘and’ hit :|), so it just takes a lot of patience.
Edit 2: Which…I don’t think I have, not at this level, so I’ll just forgo the 10 points.

It seems silly that we can’t just store achievement skins like the Zenith, Hellfire and Radiant ones.
Yeah, ever since I saw the Zenith system, I begged for them to just make it so whenever you use a stone or crystal on a piece of equipment (source or destination), it memorizes the look so it can be reused over and over again list a Zenith, on a whim, without charge.
As it stands now, I carry around 2 extra sets of chest, legs, boots to have 3 total looks. I’d love to just look however I want whenever I want with one piece of armor and less bag space.

I made it through the first day. 9 more to go.
What does that mean for the 250 I need for my legendary?
I’ve been slowly collecting dyes as drops or from harvesting plants. I’m up to about 198 of the 250 I will need.
Now, I’ll either need to craft them myself, buy them on the TP or pay real money for them?
Will I at least be able to get them with laurels still?

I’m thinking about burning one of the full makeover kits I have (even though I’m just changing the hair) to change my human female Thief’s hair to the hair at 2:44. She has the bowl cut from character creation, but my Guardian also has the same cut and I wanted her to have short hair, and wasn’t super crazy about the other options (though the one with the side pony tail was close, I just didn’t like the extra bit of hair that hung down in front so much). I rather like that new short layered cut.
And thank you for the movie.

The only thing dangerous to GW2 right now is ESO but that place is going to be a ghost town in less than a month.
fixed
In my opinion ESO is not dangerous to GW2 in any way as ESO is B2P+P2P+$shop. And I’ve played it a lot during beta but it’s nothing special. Just another generic mmo with a Tamriel sticker on it.
Not to mention how huge my character’s feet are.
Character models are 9/10ths of the law.
As others have said, some things are, some things might be a little expensive. I feel the monthly argument holds water, and I buy about $10/mo worth of gems, on average, to buy things like bag space, character slots, bank space, pets, new outfits, trans crystals, etc. It’s cheaper than the usual $15/mo and I enjoy it.
With respect to not wanting us to use the “well you don’t have to have it” argument, they kinda go hand in hand. If they were things you ‘had’ to have, they would have to be really cheap of free, or there would be a real problem. It’s precisely because you “don’t” need them that they are priced higher.
People who maybe want to stand out in a crowd by having a pet or armor or weapons that can only be acquired either by some extra in/out game cash and have that kind of disposal income can and will do it.
I bet many of them spend more than they would if there were a subscription and everything was available in game. That helps keep the core of the game subscription free for the rest of us.
On a more general level, they have no motivation to make an official statement about anything, other than enjoying cookies, which might cost them a few players who own organic food stores in Portland.
Making any sort of statement that would shed any sort of light on what they value and believe in would mean they would alienate some of their players, present company included.
I wish they would. There are so many times we create these 1000+ response posts where we all go back and forth on an issue, and they could squash it all by just stating where they stand on the issue, or why they felt it necessary to make a change that had no game play effect (for example). They won’t because so long as we don’t know what they are thinking, we still keep thinking they secretly think like us, and things will get better, so in the meantime, here’s another $10 for a character slot.
I’d love an official response on AFK. I’d like an official response on many things.

Used to block rocks spat by giant wurms, now does not.
Not to mention, giant wurms spit their rocks way more than they used to.
In the patch notes? No.
I’m sure ya’ll are mentioning all the fun bread-n-butter items.
Someone probably mentioned this, but it’s important: Memorizing weapon and armor skins like dyes. Whether you want them character or account bound is entirely up to you, but once I use a stone or crystal on ‘any’ piece of armor or weapon, whether the source or destination, it’s look should now be ‘memorized’ just like a dye (or the Zenith skins) to be re-applied, at any time, on a whim, if I feel like changing my look, without any additional cost (just like a dye). I shouldn’t have to build and carry around different physical pieces of armor that are all identical and only differ in look because I like to change my look from time to time and place to place.
Mini pets should swim. All mini pets. Any mini pets my mini pets own should also swim.
Make the running animation a character trait you can pick at character creation and change with a makeover kit and bring back the human female running animation so I can select it as my base running animation, and everyone else can use the new one. I happen to like the one we had for the first 14+ months of the game. I express no hate towards folks that like the new one, and this is a way we can each have what we want, instead of arbitrarily picking winners and losers. It would also allow you to create ‘more’ running animations that you can sell in the shop or make available at character creation or both, and perhaps give another path to boosting makeover kit sales. Unless the whole thing is about Jesus, in which case I lose and can’t compete with that, because the change was then ‘specifically’ about taking something away, not making a change that more people enjoy. I certainly hope that was not the case, or if it was, please show some common courtesy and make a statement to that effect so I know what sort of people I’m in a business relationship with, and can make ‘informed’ decisions about how to proceed with that relationship.
And then, all the awesome stuff you folks listed.

Was he by the purple portal and I just missed him because of all the mobs around trying to kill you while you desperately try to make it to the portal?
Well, what, mechanically, would constitute saving a citizen? Encouraging them? Rezzing them? Seeing them safely to their destination? How would you track seeing them safely to the destination, have every citizen be it’s own DE? I’m not very smart, but that makes me think something would blow up…somewhere?
I can’t imagine anyone doesn’t agree with AFK people not receiving a reward (though, we need to define what AFK is, and it would have to be smart enough to know the difference between walking in and doing nothing and someone that has to go rescue their child from crawling in an oven or answering the door or phone or what have you).
I think it’s great that the event offers something to do for folks that have completed their events and heirlooms or are a bit tired of saving the citizens (it does get a bit repetitive, even moving to other areas to help).
And honestly, it doesn’t really take ‘that’ many people to save citizens, if you spread out in small 2-3 person teams and make sure they reach their destination. You don’t even have to kill any of the mobs trying to kill them, if you do it right.
Now, if you are bummed because “they get your rewards but you don’t get theirs”, whatever that would mean, well…that’s a choice. It’s very easy to get everything they are also getting, if you choose to.
I mostly do whatever I feel like doing. I did some event grinding last night to finish up my monthly events, but I found the two times I went this morning, I found a fun and challenging area to help a few other people save citizens, and had a good time. We got 1200 both times.
I thought it was a play on ‘my asthma’. :\
Each tier (100, 300, 600, 900, 1200) counts for me as +1 succeeded event.
Oh, ‘event’.
I was asking about dungeon counts. Apparently doing the LA instance (regardless as to what you get done inside) awards 1 dungeon participation.
Looks like I misunderstood you.
The reward you get at XX:50 counts as Dungeon Completer +1.
No worries, just wanted to make sure I understood and wasn’t missing something by participating in the wrongs things!

Yes it does. And each one tier for citizens rescued counts as succesful event.
I did one event and we saved 1200 citizens and I only got 1 count. I should have gotten 5?
I’m looking at my monthly achievements and I have 1 dungeon completed.
I ‘rarely’ do dungeons, it’s something I would remember doing today.
That leaves LA, or the Southsun Survival activity as an instanced area I went to.
Does doing the LA event every hour count as a dungeon?
Wow. They must not like me. It’s constant lightening strikes for me, right from the beginning of the race.
Thanks.
Every time you are blinded, struck by lightening, are those ‘always’ other players, or do they also happen randomly? They seem to be happening a ‘lot’ more than they used to.
