Well, there seems to be 6 PvE Dailies today, plus one WvW one that you can get without actually doing any WvW, if you want to spend for it.
Skill Point Accumulator
Daily Kills
Recycler
Daily Events
Condition Remover
Daily Aquatic SlayerNot sure why some say they cant get their Daily by doing only PvE activities today.
That won’t be bad for me, though I’ll be sad at losing the ability to pick up a few ‘extra’ APs every day doing some of the extras I could do beyond the 5. There were usually 8-10 things to do each day.
Edit: Wait…how do you do a WvW one without WvW?
Ah ok but what about the silver spent on the guides?
In my case, since I bought the 2nd book, all those 2nd tier talents were open to me, so I didn’t really lose any value.
They just aren’t old enough yet to respec ‘all’ the same talents they had on before because of the new skill point allotment curve.
If you bought a book, I think that ‘level’ of talents should all be open for that character. The only thing that I ‘think’ would prevent you from specing it is potentially available points?
Well, here’s an example.
I have a 52nd and 55th level character (also 4 80s, but they won’t help with the illustration).
I documented my skills before the patch. They still ‘know’ the skills they had opened (using the 40th level guides, I think?), provided they spend points to that level in a given area. So from that stand point, they were grandfathered in, and I still more or less have the value of the skills I got from those training guides.
Where they got shorted and maybe ‘seem’ less grandfathered is because of their level, and how skill points accumulate much later in the game rather that steadily from around 11, those two don’t get to re-open as much as they had opened before. Eventually I’ll get it back, and I’ll have to either buy or quest for the top tier skills later (which I hadn’t bought yet, since I was under 60).
So they technically were grandfathered, but are also subject to the new skill point system based on their current level.
Edit: And should have used the world ‘Talent’ everywhere above rather than ‘Skill’.
(edited by notebene.3190)
Only about 60 dupes. Between that and reducing the Gift of Color requirement to 100, not sure what I’ll do with all the rest. I already have Celestial and Abyss, and quite a few other nice ones. I haven’t yearned for new colors much in a long time.
Yeah, at the end of the day, the wardrobe change is more or less fine (though I have some small grievances about the availability of charges through map completion and altaholics wanting to wear one transmuted ‘set’ all the way to 80).
The clothing system is silly. I don’t really see a reason why they couldn’t have introduced outfits as a new thing that allows you to wear them in combat, but still keep the old clothing system.
On the one hand, it would be this left over mechanic they’d never make any new assets for. It would allow me to wear the shorts, top and boots combo I liked, but they’d never make any new pieces. What would be the motivation?
Their idea of what should go with the khaki shorts is really an ominous premonition, I think, of what is to come. They will never make a full outfit that would be of any interest to me.
Well…actually…you know what would be a great outfit? The female armor repair humans out in Queensdale.
Have you seen them? They are in these black…overalls, I guess, with white shirts? I always thought that’d be a nice outfit.
But yeah, you’d never see anything like this come from them.
My Broomstick is Gone!!
Did you have it equipped in town clothing when you logged out?
The patch notes weren’t super clear. Anything you were wearing as town clothing when you logged out is in this weird, invisible place. When you go talk to the BL Armor fellow and ask him to convert your town clothes, you should get a broom object, as well as new clothing pieces or tonics for other things you were wearing, depending on the pieces.
The shorts, for example, became a 15 minute tonic with a big frumpy shirt and big frumpy boots. And as a tonic, not dyeable. Not so useful on that piece.
What happened to the Riding Broom and the Drill mounts? I owned the Riding Broom and now it is gone. Don’t know if this was addressed already but ty for the responses.
Any clothes you had on you are in this weird ‘invisible’ place when you first login. It wasn’t explained well in the patch notes, I don’t think.
Visit a Black Lion Armor Trader (might have the name a bit off) and tell him you want to have all your old clothes converted. You’ll get a broom object and the other things you are missing, though some things will be in a not-so-useful state any more, but I digress.
The broom, however, more or less comes out fine. You can still ride it. If you got it with the witches outfit, you can convert any piece of the witches set to a new ‘full body’ witch outfit with 4 dye channels, which would allow you to ride as the witch as well.
Well, on a brighter note, the price of charges is at least reasonable.
Not IMHO, ppl will be using charges a lot more than they used stones or crystals, therefore the price should have been significantly lower than even stones. They will make more money from these sales, gouging us in the process.
I hadn’t thought of that. Why do you suppose they’d use them ‘more’? I don’t envision using them more, well, at least at 80.
Leveling up, that’s a different story, and I noted that. That part is still a pinch, since we used to get 3 stones per zone clear and that was useful on lower level gear. I figured I’d easily clear 2 zones for 10 levels, that gave me 6 I could use for armor (and I usually just did chest, legs, boots since I hide everything else) upgrades. Yes, that will get pinched, and it’ll be more expensive to keep up while leveling, I did mention that.
I guess it’s at least better that they are priced that much closer to stones than crystals. It wish we were given them for clearing zones still. Even 2 per zone would have been a nice compromise. From what I hear it’s 1, and it’s still not entirely clear whether that is only for clearing the major cities or all zones.
Eh, after a few weeks of being nasty, I was just excited there was at least a small diamond in the rough.
I’m sure this will get buried in 1,000s of post, but as a suggestion, we could use a hot key that toggles the new outfits on and off.
We used to have one for town clothes, which I see is gone. Not sure why it wasn’t tied into the new outfit system, but it would be helpful to have that back.
Well, on a brighter note, the price of charges is at least reasonable.
Old Stone
5/125
10/225
25/500
Old Crystal
5/200
10/360
25/800
New Charges
5/150
10/270
25/600
I was hoping for between the two old ones, but feared they’d be as much as crystals, and they ended up being much closer to the old stones. And they’ll have sales periodically.
So the only real bummer from an alt perspective is it’ll still be a bit more pricey only getting 1 rewarded per zone (and still not sure if we get them in all zones) vs the 3 we used to get. That is still a step back.
But…I found something positive to talk about!
Ah, I thought it was going to convert it into a single piece item with 4 dye channels that I could wear as an outfit.
What have a stack of 3 if they are endless?
How do you ‘leave’ the transformation before the timer expires?
Edit: DOH! Nevermind on the last question
Speak to Black Lion Armor Trader in any of the home cities to have clothes you were wearing (or in inventory) converted to wardrobe.
Ah OK, that confused me too.
I was expecting to see my old clothes in my bag, at which point I’d go visit the BLAT and they would convert it.
If I just go to them, they’ll realize I need replacement clothes?
I guess it depends on how much the charges will be tomorrow. The same as crystals, the same as stone, or in between.
Additionally, it’d be interesting to know what the target demo for the increased income is. If they have a lot of data suggesting we were all using our old stones willy nilly every 10 levels and keeping our alts in the same ‘look’ from 1-80 virtually for free (with as many stones as they give away for map completions) and the intent was to milk that, well, then there you go.
Guess we’ll know tomorrow. Not sure what I’ll do with my alts if it’s cost prohibitive. I may just play my 4 80s. I could probably finish my 55-ish Warrior and Mesmer with only 2 sets of 3 each. It would be daunting to do a character from level one, and I really wanted to try the Necro and Engineer.
You’ve run out of money.
I won’t be able to afford that any more, as rather than getting 3 conversions per map completion, I get 1.
You know this……how exactly?
Well, I know what I can afford, so I’m assuming you meant the latter part.
Angelica mentioned it, and she’s right, I had read it somewhere as well, or maybe they even stated it in the stream (?) that you’d get 1 per city. It’s not known for sure if we’d get even anything for general map completion any more. If we don’t, that makes it even worse.
I got the message restiction for saying ‘Thanks’ 2 times in /say for being resurected and whispering to someone!
So aperently anyone can flag you without any check. Nice. So you dont want people to use the chat, fine…I wont do any more….
That’s why I say really weird things in chat when I’m periodically reminding people that an event is going on.
“wurm pre [waypoint link]”
“wurm pre: son of wurm pre”
“wurm pre 2: electric boogaloo”
“donde esta wurm pre? wurm pre esta aqui!”
I only do change horrid looking armor pieces as I level to 80. Armor changes way too fast to keep transmuting it.
Though while you will get a Transmutation Charge for mapping a city, there is no official word on if you will get any for mapping a wildness area.
I love this game. It’s probably the best MMO I’ve ever played, mostly because of the many “socialist” (it’s really not a dirty word) mechanics it has. I’d rate my 2nd stint on WoW of 10 months doing WotLK about a year after it’s release higher, only because all my old friends and spouses were playing together during that, which negated the many weaknesses.
Having said that, how my character looks is 9/10ths of the law. I won’t play ESO because I think the avatars and armor are rather ugly, not to mention how big my feet are. I wasn’t aware everyone was a Hobbit in that game.
It’s why I got so bent out of shape when they changed the human female running animation out of nowhere (asked and asked and asked in support tickets, the forum, bug reports as to ‘why’ and never got an explanation). It’s why I wasn’t super excited to see some of my favorite town clothes turned into tonics, and why I’m not super excited about these changes (though, I won’t really know until I see the prices).
If I wasn’t so fixated on looks, yes, it would make far more sense to not care about it until 80, and do it then. The sad truth is I can’t stand most of the armor in the game, and looking ugly while wearing it makes me not terribly excited to play those characters.
What I wish they would have done is added a secondary level of charges. A ‘skin’ charge. A skin charge is obtained by destroying a piece of armor. That simple. So then you have generic charges, which allow you to apply a skin to anything, and skin charges can be used with that skin only (and if it’s 0, then it’d use a generic charge).
That would allow me to ‘destroy’ armor and weapons that I’ve skinned once to ‘recover’ a charge from them and reapply them free of charge (after the initial cost in charges) all the way to 80.
Which would seem a fine plan, unless the target of their increased income ‘is’ me, of course. If it is, then I lose, and I have to decide whether I want to be that person.
It could be the target of their income is higher end people. People that will change their look once a week, once a month. Maybe build a few extra sets of armor to carry around for different looks (or even different stat builds). If that is the case, the the idea of not punishing people as harshly on the 1-80 journey would seem like a good thing.
It would be interesting to know where they project they will be getting most of their income from this change.
You will be able to get free charges by doing area maps, including cities (1 charge for each). Make a character, run it through the starter instance, take the PvP portal to the Vigil. Take the portals to the cities, map each, get free charges. Repeat as needed.
Right but that’s only one. I used to get 3. Those were ‘really’ useful in playing alts up and having a nice look for them to 80. I do a ‘lot’ of map completion, and have a lot of those stones laying around. I have an alt Norn warrior that has 3 pieces of armor (chest, legs, boots) and about 8 weapons (lionguard skin) that I was migrating every 10 levels. I won’t be able to afford that any more, as rather than getting 3 conversions per map completion, I get 1.
Depending on the cost of charges, the ability to play alts and keep them in a look from 1-80 might be overwhelming. Short of doing it ‘once’ with some 18-ish level gear and then just running the train in Queensdale without ever changing my gear until 80 – which I’d really rather not do.
Thankfully she’s around 55 right now, so what I might do is try to milk her gear to 65, do it then, then milk that to 80. I have two characters I wanted to run up from scratch, both Norns, that I wanted to outfit and change up every 10-15 levels with new gear. What will that cost me now?
With map completion at 3 skin conversions each (below 80), I could at ‘least’ give them a full conversion (chest, leg, boot) every time I cleared a map, with extras for weapons, for free. I won’t be able to do that now, unless I pay real money.
I’m not opposed to paying money. I have spent $10-20/month on this game since it’s release, like clockwork (every month on the 20th, I buy 800 gems, and some months I splurge and buy more, like when I started my new Human thief and put together armor pieces from 3 different store sets – thank Jeebus she’s 80 now). It’s as much as I can afford. What this has done, is make me shift where I’ll need to spend that money, and take away many items I used to enjoy (like fun new puppy or lion pets).
Guess I won’t know for sure until I see what the cost/charge will be. Pardon me while I go pop in the game and write down some current stone/crystal prices…
Well, I will admit to focusing on a player in those activities from time to time (not often), but my intention is never to grief, so much as to obstruct and observed (or at least perceived) tactic.
If I notice someone in crab that seems to be just running behind the carrier and attacking people that are trying to disrupt the carrier, then I might focus on them for a bit. They aren’t trying to obtain the crab, and seem to be just helping someone else carry. In that event, to me, you might as well have the crab.
In keg, someone might be effectively running as a spotter for a carrier and doing nothing more than obstructing those trying to foil the keg carrier. They may have decided that is their skill, and they may be very good at it. Everyone else on my team might appear to me to just be ignoring that person and trying to fight around the situation and continue to focus on the keg carrier. In that event, it would seem prudent to focus on that spotter person so that the rest of my team can get to the keg carrier.
When I do it, I ‘never’ do it with any sort of vicious intent. I don’t tab target them and then just follow them around annoying them for the entire play session. But I’ll engage them if I see them as a threat to my victory. Though in the case of crab, it’s much less so than keg, since there really isn’t any sort of team victory. I find myself ‘focusing’ on someone that otherwise would not be considered a primary target far more in the keg game.
Actually, I feel like I get griefed more in the sprint activity.
I guess because I rarely use negative abilities myself, and rather just enjoy trying to run the race as fast as I can. Guess it’s all relative.
Do we know what the cost per charge will be? Will it be somewhere between the cost of a current stone and crystal, to take into consideration that many of us have gotten used to using our many extra stones frequently during the leveling process for our alts, to keep them looking how we like?
Will the income increase come more from an increased volume of use (now that skins are shared across all accounts), which will keep the cost per charge lower?
Or, will they retain the cost of the higher crystal, and we will lose quite a bit of value on our stone to charge conversion of 3:1?
Guess I should go document how much the stone and crystals are now so I can price compare once the charges show up in the store tomorrow.
They’re replacing human females with inanimate harvesting trees, and you can role play with people who stop and chop. You have to buy charges to restock your supply of wood.
Did you get all the way through the puzzle without it counting? Both of those have their “entrance” threshold really far in.
Edit: Actually, it looks like puzzle discovery is just broken today. That happens from time to time.
That’s a bummer. Demongrub didn’t count either.
To be fair, they need to break someone else’s toy. How about breaking ‘Story Dungeon Completer’ today?
I don’t particularly want to be in my underwear, but at this point, it’s becoming the closest thing to looking how I want every 5-10 levels with my alts that I can afford. I guess this is a 1/3 step in that direction.
I really wanted to say ‘Hail Hydra’
Just to be clear, you realize it’s each character’s birthday, not your own birthday, right?
They will be left in the game. You will still be able to purchase them with Laurels too.
Don’t expect them to be worth much in the long run though. They will be quickly overtaken by craftable dyes, which at least let people chose the hue. The unidentified dyes are only prized for their chance to give a rare.
Or if you need 250 for a Legendary, unless they are planning on changing that as well?
I believe it was stated somewhere that any recipe that calls for 250 UNID will be reduced to 100.
I would be hesitant to put your UNIDs on the TP after the patch. Everyone and their cousin is planning to do this. They may not yield as much profit as you suspect.
Well that works out nicely. I had saved up 200, and was worried about how I’d get the other 50. Now I have 100 to open and memorize. Or possibly save for another legendary, though if I do manage to get Bifrost (it still remains to be seen if anyone will let me go to Arah with them), I don’t think I’ll ever pursue one again.
Though, I already have Abyss and Celestial, the former found and the latter bought for about 5g way back when. Would be nice to fill out my palette more, though.
Also worth noting that I believe UNIDs will still be purchasable with laurels. 5 laurels = 10 UNIDs. 50 laurels = 40 daily + 1 monthly. Not terribly long to have to wait to get 100 for a legendary.
True, but I was relying on laurels to get my T6 mats as well. :\

My concern at this point with the charges vs the old types of stones is that it was virtually free (because of the 3 stones granted for each map completion, plus others you’d find along the way) to be able to keep an alt in 3 pieces of armor you like (assuming you hide the gloves, shoulders, head) every 10 levels, and maybe some weapons. Now, if I want to keep upgraded, I’ll have to pay quite a bit of money (unless it’s like 100 charges for $10). Or, just loiter around in zones they are over leveled in to level up, and spend my money one last time at 80 on a final set of Exotic (there will be few, if not only one character, of mine in Ascended).
I guess the other option is to leave them at the levels they are for now.
And yes, I spend plenty of money in the shop. I probably average between $10-$15 mo. Until recently (because of some of the announced changes), I would spend $10 in gems every month as a way to contribute and help control my spending, and then only spend what I had in gems when something came up that I wanted (though, I splurged more a few times). If the cost of the charges are off putting, I may just stop altogether, and stop leveling anyone who isn’t 80 yet and not make any new alts (which, is another $10 loss on the character slot, plus an invariable extra bag space).
I need to remind myself never to watch one of those QA streams again, for reasons I will not elaborate on.
Human Female Running Animation
Plush Griffon Mini Pet (others?) no longer swim underwater
This is new in what way? :p
My passive aggressiveness aside, it was nice to have some extra info in the news ahead of time and in the patch notes themselves, but I can wait a day and read Dulfy on Wednesday, as Yargesh noted, which is where I inevitably go when I can’t figure something out, and asking for help in the game usually leads to silence or “Your mom” from the community.
I guess Hulk really doesn’t care about my stuff. :\
You see only what is in your email correspondence with Support. You can, perhaps, update your ticket to inquire, but if anything has changed, they will inform you by email.
The former process is no longer active.
Unfortunate, but thank you.
There used to be a way to see all of your outstanding and closed support tickets, and I believe with the related correspondence. I don’t see how to get there now?
I have an outstanding support issue and it was redirected to another department, and I haven’t heard anything in a few days, and wanted to go see if there was any status update on the ticket itself, but I don’t see how to do that any more.
Have a look at this thread.
Ah. Thank you very much!
I was wondering if they change the entrance to the pirate puzzle in LA at all? I used to be able to jump down the opening slide through the mouth at the vista, aim in the middle, and slide down every time, without incident.
Now, I can’t get in. I’ve tried 5 times, and died every time.
I notice there are lots of other interesting mesh problems around LA now, did they mess up that entrance? Or, did they change it on purpose to make it harder to find the right spot on the entrance?
At the end of the day, I’m sure everything will be fine, and there are many things that will make the game better.
I’m just really sad about how the clothing was handled, especially the demise of mix-n-match as well as certain types of clothing (following in the wake of the human female running animation change) not having any sort of effort put into changing it (and yanked from the store 4 months ago) to work with the new system, finished off with words like appropriate and healthier, it leaves a sour taste.
There were ways to handle all of those things to keep what some of us enjoyed (the old animation, the old clothes) in place, and possibly introduce a new system and way to make money (customizable running/walking animations), but they don’t seem interested, which still makes me think this is about an agenda of values (in some, not all, cases) rather than strictly about bottom lines.
I suppose if I were them, I’d not want to Mozilla, Barrila or Hobby Lobby myself into a position where I made any sort of specific statement which might be harmful, rather taking a more passive aggressive approach to change directions, but as a customer, it’s frustrating not given the courtesy of that picture to make informed decisions about what I do with my discretionary income.
But, as I said, at the end of the day, they are only a few things that happen to hit me like a punch in the face (especially after trying to ask as nicely as possible over the course of a few months through the support system if I could be provided with an explanation as to ‘why’…not ‘how’ or ‘what’, we get plenty of that), but I’m one person and don’t particularly matter, and I’m sure most people don’t feel that way anyways.
Overall, the new things will be fine. We’ll figure it out, and move forward. Some of us with avatars we don’t like as much as we used to (which subconsciously will make us not want to play them as much, like ESO characters with giant feet and … well, those were just generally kinda ugly, maybe not enough style and too much uncanny valley), but we’ll soldier on.
I’d like to know how this might impact transferring servers in the future (for WvW purposes), and what happens to your guild vault and belongings after that transfer, once this all goes in place before the end of the year?
Now, we seem to lose everything, unless we have at least one account in that guild that still has the server with the vault as their home server, though…do they become the leader of the guild then? I’m not even sure how that would work. As such, I’ve never been able to leave the server I’m on, for WvW purposes, without losing my hard earned ‘personal’ guild vault and belongings. I’m stuck.
I’m wondering if there’s anything about this new system that will alleviate that problem?
We are not 100% sure, but it is very likely that the trait distribution won’t be reset after the update.
Ok, thank you!
I guess I should just put in the effort to document everything to be safe.
I was thinking about it today when running my 55th level Mesmer, who I haven’t played in probably 4-5 months, to do some of the Champions for the monthly. She leveled, and I had no idea what my ‘plan’ was for her. Then it occurred to me that while I could probably rebuild my Elementalist from memory, I probably couldn’t do that with my other characters.
I was wondering if I needed to take some screenshots and maybe some notes about what all my characters currently have to re-create them, or if they will be left ‘as is’ when we login on the 15th?
I perused (admittedly, quickly) the first 5 general discussion pages and didn’t see an appropriate ‘feedback’ thread.
The release date only serves as a reminder to me…..TO DO MY TAXES :|
And just like the Tax man, they take the clothes right off your back. :|
It’s just a patch, dude. Please keep your pants on.
I’d love to keep my pants!
The release date only serves as a reminder to me…..TO DO MY TAXES :|

If I can get over myself for a day, anyone can!
Mini pets and Quaggan endless tonics are awesome, btw.
It’s really rather ingenious, and what is more enjoyable than my own character is how some of the mobs look in the world.
Someone else suggested they ought to add it to the box-o-fun, which is a neat idea.
+1
That’s actually a really good idea.
will there be individual mix and match pieces in future releases? Or will they all be complete sets?
We will continue to release mix and match armor skin pieces
Will you re-release the gathering shorts, witch boots and sleeveless hoodie(s) as mix and match skins? Perhaps put an in game vendor in that will allow us to exchange the endless tonics for them?
Or are those no longer appropriate or healthy?
I’m not sure if this will help, but if it’s an issue between the original FoV and the change they made to it a long time ago, this switch will get you the original look.
When they do add more giants, I think they should be wearing our old mix-n-match town clothes, using the old human female running animation, with plush griffon mini pets that follow them when they go swimming.
Just to bring it on home.
Some of us enjoy existing content the way that it is. There is no reason to ‘remove’ content from some people to then give content to other people (which was a mistake with Teq, not the mechanics or the event itself, just that they ‘stole’ content to make it), but rectified with the 3 Headed Wurm event (new super world event, didn’t steal existing content).
Make a new Kekkek dragon from the L33td00dz Mountains that hands out stars that can be placed on your belly with all the crazy, hard mechanics you want.
Choices and options. There’s no reason why content should be designed around haves and have nots.
lmao, so you enjoy sitting there auto attacking? No, this event should be completely overhauled just as Teq has, but not to the difficulty of the 3 headed wurm. Splitting it between two bosses is a horrible idea.
My Ranger actually does quite a bit in that fight, directing my bear around, switching to axe/horn and rotating through a series there at the right time, being in my longbow at the right time, using my rain of arrows (or whatever it’s called) in conjunction with my group heal at the right time. I feel like I make a difference.
Do I have to do all? Could I just auto-attack? I guess, but I’m having fun, doing an event that is fun, at a level of challenge that is fun for me.
Why would you need to take away content from anyone to give content to people who would like something more challenging and don’t enjoy the existing content?
I’ll miss having plenty of stones for alts to change their armor every 10 levels but keep the look I want, including weapon skins. I guess what I’ll do now is get them in 20s, maybe pay for that, then just sit in Queensdale killing champs safely until they are 80, craft them some exotics, and do one last look change.
I used to like to level my alts by going around the world and doing map completions, collecting trans stones (to add to my massive stack in the bank), and using those 1-79 ones to help me stay in my look as I swapped out my look onto better armor. That’s financially out for me.
My main carries around 2 extra sets of chest, legs, boots for looks. I’ll have to keep those. I haven’t been able to decide which ‘set’ of those 3 pieces to make ascended, so for now everything is ascended except those slots, which are exotic.
