Weird topic, but we get scolded when they are too long.

What I’d ‘really’ like to suggest is to make these account bound reward items, that we may or may not use, ever, or maybe want 6 months down the road, and don’t know we want them now, as 0 cost items in the gem store. And leave them there permanently.

Remember the little baseball cap? And the new doll (which turned out to not be a doll…/tear)?

They are 0 cost items. You can buy it, then delete it, but then you can just buy it again, if you want it later.

So the book that replays the cutscene. The 3 dragon hats. Wings. Flowers. Octopus. All these items we are getting as rewards now. As soon as we earn them, let it open up an item that is 0 gems in the shop, and just leave them there. Then we can go get them any time we want.

I guess the downside would be that once we earn them, then all of our characters would have access to them, but that’s kinda a ‘so what’, right? We only can play one of our characters at a time anyways. It’s not like it’s adding more litter to the world that way?

I don’t know. Just an idea of how to leverage something you can already do to solve the hording problem. I don’t like the dragon hats. I might change my mind some day, and with your 0 restore policy, it seems like I could never ask support to return any item to me. So I’m forced to horde things.

The only part you’d need to add is the mechanism to ‘unlock’ the item in the shop once it’s earned via achievement.

Yep, it was because I had set full screen mode to have the gamma all the way up, and apparently Fraps is using those settings when it’s recording, even though I’m in full screen windowed. I set it back to the default of 1.0 and it looks great.

Fraps works fine for me. Are you using the trial version or full version? Also, I’m not exactly sure if fraps works in windowed mode so that could be a problem.

Also, are you by any chance using sweetfx or any other graphic enhancing tool?

I don’t know what sweetfx is, so if I have it, I don’t know how I got it.

It records fine, it just seems washed out. Let me try to change the gamma in full screen mode back to where it should be then flip back to windowed and try that and see how it goes.

There is a search bar at the top of the crafting window that you can input ingredients to find what recipes (that you have discovered or have available) they are used in.

No way, I could have sworn I tried that! I just tried that again, and it works perfectly.

So that would help with looking up at least some T6 materials and things like Ectos at least.

I’m not really sure where to ask this, so I’ll start here.

I wanted to capture a few short videos of things recently, like my flapping wings, so I could share it with a friend who doesn’t play the game (in the hopes they will play).

I also thought it might be a good idea to capture some of my talents and sigils and things as to what they do now so I can compare them with what they will be in a few weeks when I’m making some decisions about what I might want to change.

So I remembered Fraps, from way back when. I’m not sure if that is the ‘soup of the day’ any more or not, but downloaded and tried that, and all the color is super washed out. Almost like the gamma is cranked all the way up (which, I do when I do that one part of the jumping puzzle in LA, admittedly, but I have to go full screen for that…I usually play in a borderless window).

First, is it possible it’s using that gamma setting from the full screen mode even though I’m in a window? Or is it something else, and a common occurrence with Fraps?

Is there something better, easier, more universal, more features, et al that people use these days in place of it? I’m not opposed to a small amount of money, either as an out right cost or donation, but am looking to avoid any big publisher type price tag.

Ah, I assumed that Kiel and Marjory had a general idea of the 2 remaining suspects locations (the zones they are in), but not their precise location. I can see how this could be confusing though (and I don’t think Kiel should even give the zone).

I just checked, and it’s her last conversation when you say to her, “And the other two?”

So for people who don’t get their information outside of the game, they are getting sent on a bit of a wild goose chase of sorts. That’s a bummer. Too bad they didn’t work the response as something like, “Well we ‘think’ so-and-so is here, and whichamafellow is over there, but we need to get some more intel on them before we send you their way. We’ll get back to you by courier when we get more information.”

I totally get that many people play the game and ‘never’ use community sites, let alone official forums, to supplement the playing experience, and I respect that. I was just not getting how you would know that they existed, by name, and where to roughly find them, if you didn’t get that information ‘outside’ of the game, which then if you obtained that through the same means as everyone else who gets it outside of the game, you’d know it wasn’t available until tomorrow.

I’m going to go talk to her again and see if she really does tell you about the extra people.

Yeah, Hebee, that’s exactly why I was curious. I might be out somewhere, decide I’m going to make myself a pair of Exotic pants with magic find. Then I ask myself, “Self, how many claws do you need/have to make that?”, while I’m out standing around among things that would drop said claws.

I suppose I could pop into WvW to check the bank, but how many friends would that make me if they found out that was the only reason I was there?

Well I’m at 9/8 and don’t have my broken wings yet (but love my 15g wings). :p

I guess what I was getting at is not understanding why there are people in Caledon Forest specifically asking “Where is Chumb Wumba?” (or whatever their name is), specifically, by name, and knowing they would be somewhere in that zone, when it hasn’t been presented to us yet in those in game mails, complete with handy ‘Show Me’ button?

My keen sense of observation would tell me, if it’s not provided somewhere else ‘in’ the game, then it must have been provided ‘outside’ of the game.

But then if that were the case, then how would one ‘not’ know that they weren’t out until tomorrow? And then, by association, know not to bother looking for them?

That’s all I was trying to figure out in my wee brain.

Without going there? The bank, the collectibles? I don’t want to put anything in. I don’t need to talk anything out. I just want to look.

Maybe one of those new interfaces they are working on? Like they did for the timers?

I know that. I know where I got my information from.

What I’m trying to figure out is how you would get that information, and ‘not’ also get the information that you can’t talk to them tomorrow?

I know where I did ‘not’ get that information. In the in game email. It told me where 3 people were to talk to. I did that. “I” know I have to wait until tomorrow to talk to the other 2 people.

But how is it that you would know you needed to talk to two more people, even refer to them by name, but not know that you couldn’t talk to them until tomorrow?

It could be ‘I’ missed something during the in game story? Was there something that named the last two people by name and told you what zones they could be found in, but did not provide additional information, like the fact that you couldn’t talk to them until tomorrow? If that is the case, then I’d understand it.

But assuming I’m correct, and the information isn’t in the game, then how would you know who they are, but not know you couldn’t talk to them until tomorrow?

Could you try destroying your item and then guesting and trying it there? I wonder if that would work?

I was under the impression that the dragon ball acheivments were not included in the over achievment to get the wings, and if my math is correct that means we all have to wait untill the next part of the story comes out. i have all of the pve achievments up to now.

From the patch notes…

A new Dragon Bash category has been added for achievements involving the Dragon Bash festivities.
The Dragon Bash Experience meta-achievement will reward a set of Holographic Shattered Dragon Wings back item skin for players who have completed 10 out of the 14 total Dragon Bash achievements (Case Closed not included).
Fourteen new Dragon Bash festival achievements have been added. Please note that The Big Boom in the Big City, Case Closed, the Ceremony and Acrimony achievement line, and Burn Down The Dragons cannot be completed until additional Dragon Bash content is unlocked at a later time.

While I have no vested interest in this either way, I just wanted to provide the information given where they specifically listed the achievements which did ‘not’ count towards the meta originally. That did not include the bash participations and wins.

There is a patch note that then said they’d cut the requirement from 10 to 8, rather than trying to get those two bash ones working again. This apparently did not work either.

So they were, then there was an attempt to make them not by lowering the total, which was then also sacked by those who were subsequently sacked.

I’m at 8 now. I should be done, but come Thursday, I’ll be done regardless. Unless a ‘new’ bug is introduced where you get 10, even though you only need 8, because it’s still stuck on 10, but then the little chest shows closed and you don’t get the item.

Which ‘should’ happen, if we want to adhere to the comedy rule of three.

It’ll all get to where it needs to go sooner or later.

I bought some un-shattered wings, and I like them very much, but I can also see the shattered ones having a different appeal and look. I’m trying to decide if I want to hog them or will one to an alt of mine.

I’m pretty sure it’s been possible to track those since the start of the event. They just aren’t possible to complete yet. I assume they’ll be available tomorrow when we can start lighting the effigies. But that’s just an assumption on my part.

Right. I am saying that if we only need 8 now, and I currently have 7 of the 8, it should not say 70%.

I’m seeing the same thing. I’ve completed 6. It ‘looks’ like 60%. If I track it, it ‘says’ 60%. However, it should be 75% now.

Well, I’ll be a surprising person to endorse this.

I love the cute stuff, and I’d probably just buy the cute stuff, and not much in the way or armor or weapons skins. But with the big wave of cute animal pets and town clothes over the past two months, my idea to “only spend $10/mo buying gems” as a sort of self-imposed monthly payment to then spend on fun things is in jeopardy, and I’m going broke.

I think if they mix things up from month to month a bit better, they might get a steady stream of income, include stuff that everyone is interested in from time to time, and give my wallet a chance to catch up before more things show up that I like.

And would give those folks who are perfectly willing to throw money at you for armor and weapons skins a chance to do so.

Though, ‘some’ new armor skins I might be interested in too, but we’ll see what you come up with.

Thanks. Yes, I wanted to try to make BiFrost. That was really the only reason I needed those particular tokens.

I guess I need to see if I can start getting into some CoF P1 groups that don’t mind helping out a newbie. Other than doing 7 ‘chest’ events every day (or at least trying to get them all in) besides my daily, and selling mats I don’t need as precursors (or any full on in collections anyways, which is getting pretty close to all of them at this point), and selling the yellow weapons but salvaging yellow armor for ectos (the weapons always seem to sell for just a bit more), I don’t really have a good money earning strategy. I was kinda hoping to avoid doing dungeon runs, as it’s not something I’ve ever been a fan of in any game, but it seems like it just won’t be in reach unless I start doing that.

I’m starting to save and work for one as well. I was curious, would it make more sense to try to farm the T6 materials, or would it make more sense to do the whole “CoF p1” farming that everyone talks about and just buy them?

I’m not much of a dungeon runner, though see I’ll need to do Arah about 8-9 times to get 500 of something I’d need, but am willing to suck it up if it makes more sense to go that way?

Or is it best just to farm, and try to pick away at maybe getting 5-10 a day of each one? I made Gift of Mastery, and was starting to work on clovers. I have 8 out of 20, so seem to be about on pace, and am realizing even out of that I’ll get quite a few T6 mats on ‘misses’.

Was wondering if there was any sort of consensus on buy vs grind, and for which things?

Well, you can make a level 5 version of a Mighty Crude Staff pretty easily. The whole craft vs not crafting is really one of passion vs money. It’s expensive, but if you like to play MMOs like I do by picking a few crafts that go with your character and ‘living off the land’, so to speak, as you go, it’s a lot of fun, and you can make your own exotics. But…it’s expensive.

There’s some pretty cheap ones on the Black Lion Trading Company too. Hit ‘O’ and click on the balance and search on ‘Mighty Crude Staff’. There’s a 5 for 78c, a 10 for 2.24 and a 15 for 3.79. If you go the buy route, I’d just get the cheaper blues and skip the greens as you go. You’ll level fast enough, and sometimes you’ll get drops and the possibility to buy them from karma vendors from time to time (though I usually spent karma points on things like accessories and rings and things as I originally leveled up…but mostly because I couldn’t make those, but could make my own armor and weapons).

I’d be happy to just make you one and send it to you too.

1. I like the pinatas and the fireworks.

2. I actually had a pretty fun time getting the 20 Dragon Bash participations, though a bit sad they don’t count towards the meta (though I suspect they’ll fix that tomorrow or before it’s all said and done).

3. I think the holoprojectors across the world were fun, though the execution could have used a little work. I got a little extra socializing in because of them.

4. I like the holowings. I bought a set for 15g and made up about half of that selling boxes on the TP. I’m going to enjoy the shattered set as well, but can’t decide if I’m going to also hoard those on my main or let an alt have them.

5. Waiting around for fireworks the first morning was another fun time to socialize.

6. Stocking up on Dragonfly Cupcakes with my candy.

7. The fact that boxes drop at a pretty good rate from just any old mob around the world.

I broke down and bought a set for 15g, and sold my first wave of boxes for about 8g when the price was up around 4s each. I’m behind, but that’s ok. I colored up a nice outfit to go with them, just like I did for the flower.

But I guess I thought the big flaming gloves were pretty ugly, so to each their own, I suppose.

I think the fireworks go off every 2 hours from 9 am PDT on Friday to ???. I think I read that they are tied to game time either after dusk or just before dawn? I think it was dawn.

I did it when it first started, and there was confusion because we all thought it would start right at 9am PDT, then found out the timer started then, but they went off when the in game time was at a certain time. Enjoyed the show, got the helmets.

So it should be going on now, you just need to wait around the fountain/projector? Unless I didn’t understand your question.

I did 20, and I had a pretty good time doing it. I’m not much one for PvP (except WvW), and probably was doing it wrong and people were dreading seeing me on their team, but I played 20 matches and was on the 9 winning teams. Not too bad for being terrible. I even came in 3rd on my team a few times.

The only part I’m a bit bummed about is it not counting towards the 10. If it did, and I knew the wins counted towards the 10, I’d go back and slug out trying to get 11 more wins.

The problem is many of them have different meanings depending on context. I heard ‘DR’ the other day, and had always thought that was ‘diminishing returns’, but it can also mean ’Divinity’s Reach’, the human city.

But since, what, a month? There was a patch and it seems like the masters just ‘tanked’ at producing Ectos. I don’t get them much any more, and when I do, they are ‘rarely’ 2s or 3s.

It would be nice to have included in the patch notes, or a statement, indicating that they did, in fact, change it to encourage more store purchases of black iron salvages from the store. It’s a business, I get it. Just let me know where I stand.

Or, if you truly didn’t change a thing, go ahead and say that, just so long as it’s true.

I just went through this too, needing something to put under my shiny, new wings.

I used this and this to piece together what I wanted, and which server had the temple open (guesting and porting on over).

Well. I suppose it’s fair for everyone to vote on “stay the same” or “bigger”. I happen to like the way they preview to me now, and can’t wait to get a pair.

If you win, which you are entitled to, and I’ll shake your hand, fair is fair, but I’d like back whatever I put into it if I lose.

So if I end up buying my wings, I’d like my 22g back.

Or, grandfather the wings.

if you got your gifts, you also got your title and map completed. Currently the map completion is impossible. They added a new PoI in DR, wich is currently unreachable. They are working on a patch.

Well, first, congratulations!

Second, be very careful with them and collect as much information as you can from as many sources as possible before you do something with them.

Having said that, I’m not ‘super’ sure. I don’t have one yet, but they appear to be a skin for the back piece. If that’s true, then I ‘presume’ you’d use a Transformation Stone or Transformation Crystal (depending on the level of item you will use them on, 80 requires Crystal) to transmute them onto an existing back piece.

I’m not sure what the lowest level back piece is? I think there was a winter holiday bag you could put on at level 1, but if you are new, you probably don’t have one of those.

The vanilla game, no special rewards, I think I got my first back piece around 40? In the middle of my personal story?

At any rate, after you apply it, the back piece you apply it to will have the same stats, but be wings.

As you level and get better back pieces, you can keep using TSs and TCs to migrate the look (the wings) onto better equipment.

So that was my input, to not leave you hanging (though in the time it took me to type this, I’m sure others have replied with more useful 5 word posts :p)

Just bank them and keep asking and get as much input as you can before trying to do anything with them.

The short answer is you can’t put them on without a back piece.

Edit: Here is the write up in the wiki on transmutation. The picture inset on the right is a good before/after picture of how it works. I’ve never used a true ‘skin only’ before though.

It’s just a pointless gimmick. The mystery moa might have a different name each time but it may as well be called mystery because it makes no difference. In the end, it still has just as high a chance of losing as any of the other birds.

If it makes you feel any better, while I like WvW, I’m not a big fan of smaller PvP, when it starts to feel personal, but the games don’t bother me ‘as’ much. I’m not very good at it, but the 4 games I played yesterday (I was going to do 4 a day so I didn’t get burned out), I tried ‘really’ hard and helped me team win 3 times.

Granted, I was never better than 4th or 5th in tally, but I tried!

Edit 2: Awesome. I think it though the ‘Ed’ was on the end of the other word it thought it needed to filter. Understandable, if it thought the first part should be censored.

I haven’t seen a kite yet, but I’d love to buy one. Are they town clothes items that go in the Toy slot? Like the witch broom? I’d be fine with that, I actually use my town clothes quite a bit, even out in the world.

I saw that little doll they were giving away and thought it was a toy slot item, then realized it was an accessory.

They seem to respawn every 8 minutes.

So far the event is pretty fun, though I’m hoping the moa races will get fixed soon.

I am having a bit of a problem with “So Lifelike”.

It seems like if there are more than maybe 4 people standing around, you might not get to tag any of the 4 monsters. I just did 3 in a row (after having been the only person at the first few I found) where there were 4+ people, and did my usual Elementalist ‘Flame Burst’ move to light them on fire, and didn’t get a single one.

Is there any way we can give them more health for each person that is around so the fight lasts a bit longer? Like tuning DEs?

Alternatively, can you recommend a good staff Elementalist move that might allow me to tag them quicker?
