This doesn’t sound like trolling or griefing, it sounds like legitimate way to tie up enemy manpower and maintain a presence inside a captured keep. Unless there’s a bug involved, you should be able to get your teammates to help you clear any such belligerents.

at nysta you are missing the point of this while being a jerk in the process; when you spawn a ballista at the high vista point inside a keep that is troling and griefing; there is nothing about taking over a keep involved in it; it was done on purpose to prevent once the keep was taken over for you not to get the vista. im trying to make a point here so dont be a prick and troll something that needs to be addressed.

my point was presented in a cynical manner, but meant to credit you with a sense of humour. okay, seriously: you want to get from point a to point b on a pvp map. you’re getting killed by players in the process. pvp is player versus player. the whole map is governed by this concept. not just pieces of the map. it is, unfortunately, working as intended. lighten up and return at a later date.

I assume you’re doing WvW solo? I agree, it really is not a rewarding experience in that case unless you have a lot of experience – sPvP might be a better fit if you want to PvP. It is also hard to find rewarding matchups in many of the lower tier servers; their WvW population simply isn’t large enough.

If you really want to give WvW a fair try, find an active WvW guild and perhaps also a server with a larger population.

An uncoordinated zerg (read: not on voice chat) also gets absolutely decimated by well executed tactics.

i don’t have a big guild. only two of my guild do wvwvw. but we love it.

just wondering if anything is going to be done about griefers spawning siege weapons on top of high point vistas in keeps making them unable to get to; these things once you take over the tower need to be made destroyable… its ridiculous.

i agree. pvp in a pvp area is unacceptable. what were they thinking? while we’re on the subject, i’d like to say i was running along the road the other day trying to get to one of my keeps which was being attacked, and some griefer from the other team attacked me and killed me! i was just trying to get to my keep! this has to be stopped. how can i defend my keep if the other players won’t let me get there?

op, let’s start a petition. stop pvp. it’s destroying wvwvw.

what we’ve got here is a failure from anet to recognise the schrodinger’s server problem.

see, when daycappers leave, the server is neither full nor empty. nightcapping may or may not occur depending on when the daycapping team logs on and makes an observation. this presents a paradox and is probably the main cause of all bugs and glitches revolving around wvwvw (especially that one where players on the opposing team are invisible until actually observed).

it has been proposed that this paradox could be solved by preventing the daycapping team from transferring to a different server. how this resolves the problem only reinforces the paradox, however more abler minds than mine often point out that a daycapper moving to a different schrodinger’s server is now labelled a nightcapper despite existing in the same time-space as the original daycapping server. this is because the daycapper can now no longer observe the original daycapper due to displacement, so can only assume they have been shifted outside of the time-space event they previous engaged in.

it’s a convoluted theory, and one which needs further study and mathematics to prove, but i do think a basic understanding of population/timezone relationships might be beneficial to forming a helpful model.

in other words, op, that’s a real sad story, bro.

When is the queue system going to be fixed? It’s been at least six weeks now and the queue system is extremely flaky — some people get in, some dont. There doesn’t seem to be any ORDER to the queue (which means it isn’t really a queue, more like a lottery).

Please fix this because I’ve been waiting in the queue for 3+ hours and other guild members got in after 10 minutes for the same borderland!

i reckon you should shout more. that will get yourself heard. also reckon you should start a few more threads about this. i don’t think 100 is nearly enough of them.

practically, though, have you thought about moving to a server a little lower down? it would do wonders for your blood pressure. in the meantime: aspirin.

those of you complaining about the downed state, i wonder. when you get downed, do you tell your team to please leave you alone because you don’t believe in the downed state and don’t want to make it unfair for the other team? when you die, do you respawn asap, or do you look around and see if anyone might res you? and if they are ressing, do you tell them to stop and just respawn anyway and run all the way back?

just curious if this complaint works both ways and if you have the conviction of your beliefs?

dh have been hardcore alright. i’m on oceanic time, so we get on and it’s all blue. like a sea. it’s always tough trying to claw something back because dh fight hard. last night we spent some time just trying to avoid dh while capping. didn’t often work out that way.

anet don’t strike me as a scrooge company, though. i mean, look at this game. really. you’re all playing it, surely. don’t you think they could have gotten away with charging a sub for this? i know i’d have paid for it. i haven’t seen many things where i thought, “oh, i can’t play this unless i buy something.” try playing a lot of other cashshop mmos. some of them are frustratingly bare without investing.

for me, i think this game has been extremely generous for a free/cashshop mmo. and anet still haven’t changed from being that nice bunch of guys. i think just some of us are getting a little too entitled?

i’d be happy to buy from the cashshop. i’m not personally into the whole gems for gold thing, but if there was anything attractive, i’d buy it. because, to be honest, i spent more on wow in its first few months than i have here. and that’s awesome.

i love booming with the ele, but they’re right – it can be a bit of a one-track machine sometimes. i wouldn’t mind being able to switch weapons sometimes. especially when i get peeled off from my group. have to say there’s something satisfying about laying down aoe all over walls, though and watching everyone run back out of the way.

i always say if you’re going to be beaten by the wooden spoon team, you really have to have some good excuses. way to go, sniffy. you got the holy grail of excuses;
a: we got nightcapped and so we lost.
b: they engaged in smacktalk and we were demoralised.
c: they weren’t skilled. they just have more players on.

i love it. there’s going to be no real way to do wvwvw without having some servers hotter than others. no way to have balanced numbers. and you know what? i don’t care. when i’m losing, i don’t care. i’m not playing for the scoreboard. i’m playing for the pvp, and if you enjoy it, it can be terrific fun to actually explore those “tactics” you say aren’t in the game.

it doesn’t have to be all zerg if you’ve got a good idea for something. a lot of people are quite happy to do something out of the box. the other day we built a treb in a rather open area against a keep which was heavily defended and we were outnumbered. we had to build it inside a cavern, slightly around a bend to avoid getting thwacked by their treb. their defenders were forced to leave the safety of their walls and arrowcarts and come into range of our arrowcarts built to defend the treb. we were outmanned. outgunned. and eventually outplayed. but the half an hour of defending that treb which was gradually bleeding their supply as they kept repairing the wall was exciting. we knew we’d lose the fight there. but we wanted to suck their supply. that was enough of a victory.

take the little things. you get out of wvwvw what you put into it, in my opinion. most of the gripes i see are the gripes of people who don’t do much wvwvw i think. because i don’t have the same problem on the scale that’s being shrieked about. other than the hacking (which i’ve never seen happen), any issues are pretty minor. show me a game with no niggling balancing issues, or wacky quirks which require learning a whole new metagame, and i’ll show you a boring 3d shooter.

for the most part, it’s been fun and often exciting.

a lot of the complaints seem to be from the kind of people that might go to a motorhead concert to sit in a chair at the back and complain they can’t see anything for all the people headbanging in front of them. they’d go tot he security and start demanding security start telling people to sit down so they can enjoy the tunes.

get up. rock. you might enjoy yourself.

i like it. even in wvwvw. my favourite example of it is when someone dies below a wall i’m defending. and i like to throw some aoe on top of his/her head every time someone tries to come in to res him/her. love seeing the would-be rescuer roll out.

i love keeping my eye on that downed guy. watching him wait for help. then, every time help seems to come, i drop aoe. again. and again.

then, when help moves too far away, i drop some aoe on top of him/her again. just so they know i haven’t forgotten they’re there. then they usually log/respawn and have to run all the way back. sometimes that takes a while.

in my head, i hear them screaming at me through the monitor and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

love the downed state.

it’s like a new element of psychological warfare.

the trading post is clunky for sure. i have to say i find it irritating not to be able to search for “medium armor only”. also not to be able to see the armor. sometimes you just want to know what it’s going to look like, too. but mostly the searching feels so clunky and like you’ve got to wrestle it to find what you’re looking for.

I agree the value of defense isn’t worth the cost. Why pay for siege only to know that when you log back in after work the next day it’s all gone? Now, if your realm could purchase NPC’s that would man arrow carts, catas, etc…..maybe then??? I don’t know, I’m no genius, but perhaps the ability to ensure your defensive siege would actually fire while we were all tucked in our beds sleeping might even things out a bit….just a thought.

see, i’m still not convinced on the whole “nightcapping” because i’m playing in australia, and we’re not fighting empty servers. i think what you’ll find happens is the particular keep isn’t as focussed on by those who may not have appreciated its upgrades. perhaps we were on the red side of the map and blue came in like ninjas. see, a lot of things happen.

same reason you guys lose our keeps in your day.

which is my point – there’s not enough focus on the defence when the zerg is considering not holding, but capturing. get more “points” for capturing, so they keep the zerg rolling rolling rolling.

actually, that’s more down to defence. if the defence was a bit stronger and more coordinated, there really wouldn’t be as much effectiveness to the zerg. zergs tend to succeed when the keeps are under-defended. but a zerg will often shatter if the keep has a few more than just one or two arrowcarts.

i think, though, no one wants to pay for it. which is understandable given the fluid nature of wvwvw in terms of capturing keeps. but if the defence had the capability to spread out a little more across the map, it’s possible the offensive teams would have to start thinking laterally – such as attacking two places at once, rather than running like a lemming train around the map.

i personally think the trebs are the strange factor. some places you can pop one so far back the opposing team can’t destroy them before they’ve pummelled a keep out in the distance. that seems a bit unusual. i think trebs should be out in the open and need more defence.

the thing is, you usually have three zergs going. red his green, green hits blue, blue hits red. they’re a train going in opposite directions, and only sometimes meet. pull down this keep then rush back to defend the other being pulled down.

i guess what i’m saying is you can’t blame anet for the players not really using the tools at their disposal…

It’ll be hard to beat Darkhaven because of their night capping.

nsp australian here – and that’s not technically correct. we get good numbers. but we do tend to ignore the borderlands. while dh seemed to have a large zerg on, it didn’t feel too overwhelming. sometimes our decision to keep attacking before fortifying was like cutting our own ankles to try to run faster. so we’d lose a lot of keeps when dh responded to any of our zergs which died against the wall.

there was also an attack where our full force got split due to miscommunication. this allowed dh to overwhelm us.

that whole “nightcapping” is a too-used excuse, i think, for some bad decisions or lack of concentration. the night before, for example, was epic, and we spread across the map. was quite nice.

but, like i said, we’ve been ignoring our borderlands too much this week.

i don’t know why a lot of people think their servers are “empty” as soon as they log off. populations ebb and flow according to timezones. you might be surprised.

tldr: gw2 isn’t enough like wow. it’s too different in its metagame and i can’t take it. 50% of all the people i know left the game. that’s me. i’m the 50%. sure, everyone says nigel is a figment of my imagination, but he’s not. he’s real. i’ve seen him. he drinks my gatorade.

this game is unplayable because other people are playing it and loving it. that means it’s no longer cool. i’m going where all the cool kids are at. all 1 of us. nigel’s staying with you.

at this stage of the game, i don’t think it’s a problem. as the op said – balancing. if free transfers were halted, those of you still qqing about long queues would keep qqing (in both senses of the term), and wold have literally no other option than to just endure.

right now, though, you can jump down to a lower server and get your game on. i like to think in the early days everyone jumped up. now they realise their mistake and are jumping down. it’ll balance out and everything will be cool.

as for the guilds losing their “roster” or servers losing a few guilds, then perhaps you weren’t offering the support needed to keep those players. it’s a two-way process. if the guild feels no server pride, or the player doesn’t feel they want to be in your guild, then you’ve lost nothing.

for me, there’s really only one server filled with genuine server pride. and this is where someone from kaineng can shout it out loud and proud.

i love downed in wvwvw. as an elementalist, i love dropping aoe on downed players to watch their teammates either die in the aoe, or run away really fast. and then i like to drop a few more aoe on top of the downed player when they’re all alone with their team circling some distance away. i like to think of it as reversing the psychology we have of the benefits of downed. i like to also imagine the other player screaming at their monitor every time they see a circle of aoe cheerfully exploding around their corpse. knowing that i know they’re there and i’m just not letting them get rezzed.

when they log/respawn, i feel a warm fuzzy feeling.

for me, i don’t think anet is “suffering from inaction” as if they’re undecided. i think it shows remarkably maturity. just because a few people do a lot of complaining, doesn’t mean there’s anything actually “wrong”. i don’t find thieves more annoying than most other classes. 1v1 it might not be fun, but i am usually playing casters, so, you know. getting stabbed by rogue classes goes with the territory. no point crying too much about it.

that said, i think anet studied things, rather than jumps on things at the first sign of a possible wobble. accumulate some data and see if there really is a problem or if people are just being silly enough to position themselves for the stabby stabby to get their kitten on.

a lot of times, the things which bug us are situational, rather than because of class balance. i’m sure there’s a few thieves who hate standing on walls, for example, when i’m raining fire down on their heads. killed a few that way, too. i always wonder if they swear at me.

and when attacking, a thief fell to my flames and was never able to be resurrected because i kept dropping fire on his dead corpse to prevent him from getting resurrected. i wonder if he hates my class, now?

personally, i like that anet take their time with these changes. it means, hopefully, they’ll make the right changes, rather than changes which are a panic response to some loud and rather shrill screaming which only ends up giving people even more to scream about because it wasn’t done properly…

What do you mean by S key usage? You mean shift+1 for steal or the actual S key? I thought everyone used the S key.

S keying, backpedaling, stepping backwards, being bad, the terms are interchangeable. Basically anyone who has their “move backwards” still key bound is automatically a inefficient and bad player.

situational. as a caster, i often backpedal for range. i want to be hitting right on the limit of my range, not getting too close. further back i am, the better for me. call me a coward if you like, i like to think it keeps me alive longer to rain down more fire.

i agree i wouldn’t backpedal if i were playing melee, though.

having said that – each to their own. if you live, it’s good. if you kill, it’s better. who cares how?

edit: for the record, i didn’t watch the vid. :P i saw the comment about gangsta speak etc, and figured it’d annoy me, too. because, you know, english.

The root of this problem is thus:
WvWvW is and should be a 24/7 game mode; servers are not designed for 24/7 player loads.

I think the best possible solution to this problem is threefold:
1) Eliminate NA and EU designations. (language designations would be fine)
2) Announce a finite time remaining for free transfers. (at least 2 full matches)
3) Continue focusing developer attention on bugs/exploits/hacks.

that wouldnt solve much, if anything. I think that is impossible to achieve balance just by letting the playerbase self control itself, it will never work. human nature, specially on the internet, equals egoism.

24/7 balanced servers is an utopia. it will never happen. lets come into terms with that.

my solution is simple.
abandon the idea of 24/7

1) IP Ban/ Lock NA and EU regions
2) create new Asian/SEA region
3) Announce a finite time remaining for free transfers. (at least 2 full matches)

anyone that doesnt take advantage of that free transfers to go to a region that fits him will see that chars locked.

These two while seeming similar are light years apart. One is about opening things up and the other about closing things off. The latter is counter to what Anet has been trying to do. That is create a game where it doesn’t matter where you live.

and good on them for doing so, too.

i fight as hard as any of you on your own timezone. i don’t see why my “efforts” should be considered less than “yours”. we’re all even, despite the zone shifts. and it’s kind of amusing that only one “shift” is actually complaining. everyone else in the world is okay.

actually, nightcapping shouldn’t even be a term. it’s a ridiculous idea given this is a global game.
