One core flaw in my opinion

2) One of my favorite features of GW1 was the concept of horizontal progression. …

totally this.

for me, it’s the sudden lurch away from that core philosophy which broke my heart. i’d always tried not to believe that all gaming companies were the same. tried to believe that there were some who were composed of gamers who wanted to do more than play glorified platformers. and everything i read about gw2 over the past years only made me drool.

but wow – the whole idea of horizontal progression just got thrown out the window so FAST! one day, i’m playing a game which makes me feel like i’ve found the holy grail, and barely two patches later i’m playing something with hideous shades of every other mmo.

what happened to my anet?

remember when it wasn’t going to be about the loot? remember when it wasn’t going to be about the raiding? remember when it wasn’t about the grind?

yeah.

me neither. not any more.

And once again, I’m left wondering why include the stat upgrades at all.

That’s the million dollar question, which we’ll never get a real answer to.

We all have a good idea why of course, it just doesn’t make sense, not to me anyway.

I thought this was discussed before? Is Ascended gear not to bridge the gap between the exotic and the upcoming legendary armors?

there’s part of the horror. that they feel there needs to be a gap shows another critical level in the endless hamster wheel of doom. that is, another big leap in stats.

the point of most is: why should there be a big leap in stats on gear? is roflstomping players/content the only way you can feel you’ve progressed?

From my perspective, the Ascend gear grind was just another brick in the wall and I will never give them another dime for it, that is their reward.

that got me giggling…

We don’t need no new conditions
We don’t need no new tiers at all

We don’t want to grind Ascended
We don’t want to dungeon crawl

agree with autor of this thread. dungeons are absurd. if they been designed for 80s, lower lvl players shouldnt be alowed to enter the dungeon, or should be advice to come back at lvl80.
now it only builds fustraition and bad impresion about dungeons/event bosses

i find it amazing that in this day and age, with the technology and gaming experience we all have, we still only get dungeons and bosses where the level of difficulty is simply defined on the hit points and damage output of the boss being increased to make the fight longer while throwing in a few mario brothers style boom skills.

i have yet to find a boss or dungeon that deserves the word “challenging” for making you think. they’re all the same.

for me, the philosophy of ascended was enough for me to stop playing. i keep revisiting the forums, hoping something will be announced to negate this ridiculous wow-style addition.

i recognise the stats may not be as world-shattering as many of wow’s tier upgrades and may not necessarily give roflstomp powers in wvwvw. but even if they don’t, even if i’m being melodramatic, it’s shown a change in actual philosophy of the game. and it’s that philosophy which made gw2 so attractive given the saturation of wow-clones.

everyone wants to feel progression. but progression doesn’t necessarily have to translate into achieving roflstomp godmode over other players. that godmode should be inherent in the player’s own skill. the point where you, as a player, don’t need to try hard to kill something, is honestly where the game ends. if you can walk up to a player who hasn’t done your dungeon and kill that player simply because your gear was better, then you’ve finished playing the game.

for me, the concept of horizontal progression was awesome. it refocussed your attention to the actual game and to a more social feeling in the game, rather than on the loot. or on the selfish need to get that single piece of gear now. it’s upping the pace of the dungeons and making gear a priority again.

this is such a shattering moment given the PR leading up to release. sure, you can say we didn’t look at the fine print. but given the emphasis on gw2’s philosophy being so radically different was the actual selling point, it’s a betrayal of that philosophy no matter how you choose to look at it.

for me, it’s been like dating someone you’ve been looking at for your whole life and on the second date she turns around and says she’s going to start seeing your best friend instead. but, you know, we can still all be great friends, right?

Yeah, doing dungeon with a competent group gives you very different and more rewarding experience.

With random low-skilled people it’s unenjoyable chaos most of the time.

Yep.

Unfortunately, most low-skilled players just want to blame the game and other people for their incompetence.

absolutely! it’s like how ghost rider wasn’t really an awful film. it’s just i was too incompetent and unintelligent to fully grasp its obvious magnificence.

Iam constantly asking people to team with me when I’m levelin up in areas and doing hearts etc…. only like 1 in 10 people wants too… but why??

It is soo much faster and easier to level up when ur in team instead of going at it alone. Also much more fun imo. Why so many lone-players?

I usually only play with my wife. Erm…in game that is. But I love to help people out here IF I can. Getting swamped, I’ll hop in. Doing events? I’m game. Need an answer? I’ll whisper it if I know it. DE? Heck yeah. But as for grouping up? Sadly, my net likes to DQ me and depending on where the group is, I may or may not be able to get back. So I am nothing but dead weight.

I don’t want to drag anyone down with my crapnet if it decides to misbehave and sometimes, DQing at just the right moment is a terrible terrible thing.

At least going solo, while helping when I see someone doing something I can help with, I’m not a bother. Oh yeah, I’m also a horrendous typer when I’m trying to play so my words get very scrambled. Seriously.

my wife and i play mostly together in-game (and out), too. have to say we were so excited about gw2. the idea we might have finally got into some dungeons without having to join raiding guilds was what really had us amped up.

we both work in customer service industries (i’m in it support) and so we kind of are well over the idea of melodramatic hissy fits and rude demands. but we love the big open worlds and my wife’s a huge fan of economics, so loves markets.

How many here are playing less? And why?

stopped playing after seeing the introduction of endgame grind. i’ve purposely been taking it slow to reach 80. was enjoying the ride. now, i feel the opposite of those who said there was “nothing to do at endgame” in that now i feel i’m playing a game with the hope of grinding just to be able to get into those dungeons or pvp.

so i pretty much stopped. playing the game of wait and see to see if anet do a big rethink on this one. but if they’re going to turn gw2 into another wow-clone in regard to endgame, i’ll just log and wait for the next game which might decide the fun is more important than the grind. and that all players should be welcomed to all the content. not be gated out so a few can have some kind of bragging right.

the whole concept, for me, of mmo is that it encourages a multitude of playstyles without punishing you for it. aesthetic items to grind for was the perfect solution to those who love to grind these things.

this solution is just sad.

In maps, people rarely follow my lead, thinking they know better than me, so I just go on my own.

And when they do follow me, they find out that I quickly find the fastest way to do everything in a map and end up following me all the time. Which I don’t like either.

I like to be with people, but sometmes you just want to stroll around, completing points and dailies while watching some series in the other laptop.

I prefer to be the kind of guy that comes out of nowhere, saves the day, and then disappears to do their own stuff you can only wonder about.
You know, like the power rangers with the special colors, like white or golden.

It’ll be nice if there was in-game voice chat.
The things I do the most with people is with my guildies with some VOIP program, but doing that with pugs is a hassle as they’ll need to set for a single protocol and client.

this is pretty much why i don’t join up. i like to take my time and enjoy the game. i can’t stand being forced to run through everything like there’s some kind of race going on.

You can now do everything in LA at any level without ever having to leave. I love exploring (still working on my gold star), but something tells me that most people will just spam LFG FOTW in the ‘LA lobby’ waiting to level there new toons. Ops I forgot, they will be crafting/leveling while waiting for a FOTW group. Sad really.

Why do you care what people do to have fun? Why would you not leave LA to go explore(something you love so much) just because people are spamming FotM in LA?

maybe he thought he bought an MMO and would run into other players while exploring…

If he/she cares so much about finding other people maybe he/she should of joined a guild or made some friends.

This thread is filled with whine.

Apparently no one has figured out that MMOs that have a static environment die. Adding new things to do (like finding new cool sets) keeps an MMO alive. T

This isn’t a sandbox MMO, where you can go outside and do wtf you want. Its a themepark game with a progression system. If you want sandbox play go play Eve online, tibia, or darkfall.

I love that they are adding new content I DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR, and the fact that the fractals are abosutely stunning in design.

If you don’t like the way the culture is on your server, then make a guild focusing on older dungeons. YOU SHOULD NOT BE WHINING ABOUT DECISIONS OF OTHER PLAYERS, the developers cant control that kitten. They can steer it mildly, but this whining about not finding groups is purely cultural. You can and always will be able to run other dungeons and attain the gear.

As for ascended items, they have already stated theyw ill be having multiple paths to attain it, and that ascended armor is essentially legendary armor.

You don’t kitten when people attain a legendary weapon do you?

Look around the world of Tyria all the Cathedrals have remained contested for nearly a week now not only that but go to the lower level zones most contestable waypoints stay contested the vast majority of the time, theres no dynamic event groups the world of Tyria is desolate and my only thoughts are the Dragons won the war.

Please dont have a christmas theme event.

personally, i stopped playing. i was loving the adventure to tell the truth. now with the new announcements, i’m feeling too betrayed to even want to log in. i come here each day though, just to see if anet’s got anything to say.

but, for me, turning into wow is killing me. i stopped playing wow for the very reasons you’re talking about. 90% of the map in wow is empty. and if you’ve enjoyed the levelling with a friend (or wife in my case), you get to the end and prepare to have some fun in dungeons, only to find you’re not going to be accepted into any group because you’re not geared. and every dungeon you DO get into is a pain to do because everyone wants to go through as fast as humanly possible, skip as much “trash mobs” as they can, leave groups with insults when they die, quit groups if the first boss you meet doesn’t drop that one piece of loot they were after so you’re left stranded and unable to finish the dungeon, or rage at you because your build is too support based rather than pure dps.

oh, so much joy in that mentality. not.

i havemy fingers crossed this is all a dream, because i want my gw2 back!

More dungeons. I hate dungeons. It would have nice to acknowledge the near universal disgust at the gear grind.

You don’t have to run dungeons for the gear. You can run it for you know, actually see all the content

I’m looking forward for the changes in WvW as it got pretty boring lately.

Edit: What’s the “Ascended gear fiasco”? Anyone care to explain?

i agree with the statement that dungeons can be fun, which is why the dungeons shouldn’t need a gear prerequisite. that’s when they become just gear grinds. hence the massive backlash on this one.

having gear prerequisites makes for wow-style ruthlessness in the social aspect of the game. in that everyone gets called noobs again, and gearscores become the norm.

i think everyone who loves the game can admit the best thing about it is that moment when you find yourself in an event with a bunch of complete strangers, and you’re fighting together, not against each other. when you don’t care in the slightest that the gamer fighting next to you isn’t kitted out in the uber gear of today. all you care about is you’re both having fun and even when you die, it’s still cool because someone’s rezzing you anyway.

with the gear treadmill, every dungeon’s played against a stopwatch. every fight is a boring rote-fest.

just.

bring back gw2, please, anet. bring back the desire for a more positive social experience.

I'll be honest about the gear and gearchecks

Well i`m sure Anet is already aware of the problems this update caused.
Server-pop-decline is not only takin place on US-servers, you can watch in with europe-servers aswell.
This update did not only scare the GW1-crowd, the people who wanted what GW2 promised (no gear-treadmill), all the people who can`t/don`t want to spend all the time in one dungeon, it also made the rest of the GW2 gameworld obselete : events, explo-modes ..well guess what..there`s much going on there anymore.

If accepted the fact that GW2 is now like everyother MMO, i will play it as long as it is fun..and it still is. The feeling of this update beeing the worst possible design-choice for GW2 still remains. There are just to many games like this, i doubt GW2 will be relevant if they just choose to swim with the crowd….it`s shame honestly, there was/is so much potential here.

this.

it’s what’s so bizarre about this latest announcement. it’s so against everything gw2 was standing for. everything we were promised and came here for is being thrown out the window.

it’s made me so sad i haven’t been able to log in except once for the past week. i keep coming here hoping to see anet telling me it was all an april fool’s joke that went off too early.

Anet's survey wanted more comments...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nysta.6713

nysta.6713

i felt the survey was oddly in tune with this last few weeks of anet’s releases. baffling. the lack of space to put comments showed the lack of interest in the obvious panic many of us are feeling with the recent announcements.

i think they’ve miscalculated the “fun” of one-time events by narrowing their targetted audience too far. they’ve narrowed it further with the introduction of a more wow-like grind masquerading as end-game.

i’m one of those who preferred replayability to endgame. the whole game was supposed to be endgame. that was the catch-phrase. if this event heralds the concept for future events to be so narrowminded in their inclusiveness, i’m going to have to need some help putting my jaw back on my head.

for me, not having a comments section was pretty much underscoring the new philosophy which has taken gw2 into a whole new, or rather old, mmo direction where the company you trusted suddenly takes a few steps back, builds a one-way mirror wall, and starts adding bizarre patches. i’m concerned that this event, while it had a wonderful concept, was made for the guys in the office rather than the game itself.

After 3 days without one response from Anet on our threads is a little poor, and they have even moved the subforum so we can no longer post in it without addressing our complaints.

So now we have to start a new thread with our complaints? looks like it , we deserve better treatment then this, you have broken your own rules by making this by discriminating against our time zone, and to even rub more salt into it, you gave away elite stuff?

You have created this drama now how about a response?

i have to say, i didn’t even log in this time. well, i did on the first day because a friend asked if i wanted to kill with him. logged in and found we were in the area of one of the events, but it was bugged. seemed other events in the area were kind of dead, so pretty much gave up.

didn’t bother going back because the event feels like it’s not really aimed at me.

to be honest, i feel a bit left out of everything lately. i thought gw2 was inclusive, but it’s slowly becoming something made for a specifice portion of the population. or, at least, a specific portion get the exciting moments and the dregs get left for the rest of the globe. in a lot of ways i’d almost prefer the static holiday events of wow. while i can see what anet is doing, it’s a bit unfair to have it happen at the same time every day.

would have been nice to maybe shift the timezone each event so everyone could have a chance at it.

combine this event with everything else being added into the game right now, and i’m sitting here going, “why is someone using blizz’s patches on gw2? won’t that break the software?”

It’s a personal effort after all , if you are a casual gamer who maxed his exotic set and have probably second BiS inslot why would you want ascendant gear for +5+10+20 stat ? Where will you be using that “hardcore” gear , once a week in wvw or the daily dungeon ? It’s the same previous mmo argument and here it comes: play harder ( work harder ) then the rest get an extra edge it’s just like in the real life or is it not ? No one is forcing you to do it you will still be competitive either way. So why cry about an extra +5 stat you don’t need and won’t use ?

This is a little hard to follow but I’ll try. You’re suggesting that because I want a gear plateau I’m not hardcore or competitive? Well I suggest that because you want a stat advantage you are neither. Stat advantages are a refuge for the skill anemic to obtain the thrill of a victory they “earned” by repetitive easy tasks before the challenge even took place.

I want an even playing field so I can truly measure my skill over others and “in yo face! son!” them with 100% assurance that it was my own skill and experience that got me the victory. I’ve been competitive since I first saw a row of quarters on an arcade fighter. Sorry but your argument is irrelevant and indicative of the slow decline of challenge in gaming.

amen.

and what you just wrote was the whole design philosophy of gw2 from everything i read/watched prior to release.

i was looking forward to this current event. i really was. then this. and i now feel so bummed out. i feel how i felt after every wow update which began reducing your skill tree to, like, no tree and reducing your gear to worthless in one update.

you can already see the raider mentality really beginning to take over now. and that’s the saddest thing for a game which was seeming to promote dungeons and raids as being secondary to the wide open world events we could all have fun with.

while the idea of immediate and gratifying once-off events sounds wonderful, it’s not much taking into account the concept of a “global” game. don’t mean to come off as someone who’s whiny, but it always means a good portion of your customer base are being given the boot.

What is a Gear Treadmill?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nysta.6713

nysta.6713

The reason ppl complain against gear treadmill is because the difficulty of getting said gear (think low drop rate raids) and repetitive content. As long as the journey toward gear progression is fun and engaging, I welcome gear progression. After all, the whole point of playing a game (or even living real life) is to achieve goals, long as said goals are engaging to reach.

Our minds are hard-wired this way, we seek fun to attain goals. Fun gear progression =/= gear treadmill. I hope Anet implements this well.

the reason i don’t like it is it promotes too much negativity in dungeon running. people become so selfishly addicted to getting their loot that if the boss who drops their loot doesn’t drop it, they’ll quit and leave you with a half-finished dungeon. or you’ll die and they’ll quit because you’re the noob. or you don’t have the right gear for the dungeon. or you’re going too slow because you’re actually having fun. or you’re killing adds and why aren’t you just running past it all to get to the boss? or you didn’t watch it enough times and comment on the youtube video of how to do the dungeon first.

i’ve yet to see a gear-centric game actually generate positive social interaction for a long long time.

Yep keep it coming. Real MMO players play MMO’s for character progression and for the social aspect, that doesn’t mean your hardcore that means your playing the genre for what it is. Dont hold back because some of these people want a single player game MMO’s dont handicap players, it keeps going and going. As long as you implement progression in a fun way of doing things there should never be a problem.

what i find bizarre is this kind of post didn’t exist in the lead-up to the release of gw2. it was the opposite. it was praising the idea of a more lateral levelling experience as opposed to the carrot and the stick gear grind. everyone was singing our amusement at raiders. we were relieved to think we could play a game which didn’t force us into massive cutthroat raider guilds.

how fast that utopian gaming ideal was ditched to appeal to the raider-centric gaming community rather than the gamers so absorbed in the promises gw2 was dropping in those wonderful videos pre-launch.

my mind is still boggling, to tell the truth. gw2 was going to be the game which made all levels of content inclusive and friendly. not exclusive and gearscored.

it’s like the game was released and all that passion and enthusiasm for creating something unique and genuinely socially positive was thrown out of the window to imitate the worst elements of other mmos. those other mmos were the ones a lot of us were running away from. we were running from gearscore. from the powercreep. we were genuinely looking for the joy of a more dynamic world. all those buzzwords. all those dreams.

no matter what colour ribbons get put on this, it’s wow all over again, with dungeon-gear you MUST have to complete x dungeon or be included in x guild’s dungeon run. where before the rewards were cosmetic and therefore inspiring a more relaxed attitude to running dungeons, now it’s heading back into the familiar ground of being so gear-focussed to the point of negativity and noob-calling.

right now i honestly feel like the victim of a cynical marketing campaign.

Why do people fear 'power creep'?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nysta.6713

nysta.6713

the worst thing about it is the raider-guild mentality.

everything becomes a case of “what gear do you have?” before anyone would talk to you. you’re considered a good/bad player based on your gearscore. you end up not being able to see half the game’s content without investing your soul into a group of easily irritated people who take the concept of “game” too seriously. you find yourself not bothering with the little things in the world as you end up pursuing only those things which guarantee you loot formatted for your class. ragequitting gets more common. no one likes anyone else because everyone’s too determined to get their loot NOW so they can get into the next raid with “not noobs”.

ugh. the whole idea makes me cringe. i was so glad when gw2 seemed to be saying it would pretty much be the antithesis of this. i thought: at last. a game where gamers looking for challenges and fun can gather. a holy grail, i guess.

while i don’t think this power creeping is the end of the game, it’s pretty much telling me this will be another mmo in which my wife and i’ll be locked out of endgame. again.

i’m not a fan of this idea.

mainly because it’s doing what wow did – forming a nice divide between gamers and promoting more gearscore-style stats. it’s the first step toward making half the game unplayable to half your playerbase again.

i’ve never felt a gear chase defines difficulty, or should define difficulty. the actual boss and dungeon mechanics should define that difficulty. not a treadmill. gw2 always seemed to push that idea that it should be fun and an activity everyone can participate in without having to succumb to the whole wow-raider mentality.

sure, it’s only one dungeon.

i’m not raging, or particularly emotional about it. but i do think it’s kind of sad, actually. i’d always hoped gw2 would be that game which kept the idea of fun so that my wife and i might manage to “see” more of this game than we have many other mmos which locked us out of content thanks to not enjoying the whole raider-guild scene. to feel gw2 is slowly trying to mould itself into that format is disappointing.

Why Is ANet Secretive about GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If Arenanet were to say something like
“we would love to have X for GW2 in the future”

People would read it as
“We promise you that you will have X in a few days”

So they just keep it for themselves.
Also company are usually secretive to avoid other companies of doing the same, faster than they can do it.

this ^^ right here and it makes total sense
I for one would rather here from them when they have it ready for deployment rather than the in the future line like Stun Wars and many others used to do and never deliver !

while that would certainly be a contributing factor, i feel it’s a poor excuse. game companies overall have become so distant from the player base that it’s almost like they’re too concerned with board meetings than meeting the players.

for me, anet’s lack of information/interaction borders on the paranoid. i thought when the game was released they might open up a little. relax a bit. i don’t think it’s necessary to talk about what MIGHT be in the game later. sometimes it’s ok to talk about what’s in it NOW.

i felt the halloween thing was quite “there you go. we’ve uploaded some stuff. now kitten off and figure it all out yourself. we’re not telling you anything.”

it’s like they’re not proud of what they’re doing. sure, i don’t want my hand held. but i don’t really feel like i want to google or wiki everything. i kind of wish anet would just relax a bit sometimes is all. put on a friendly face rather than a poker face.

The Female Human epidemic

i pick the races which aren’t too small and not too big. i choose the females because generally in games their animations are smoother and less intrusive so you spend less time looking at the toon itself and more time at the world around you/thing you’re killing at the time.

of course, that was before gw2’s obsession with distracting buttcapes and massive dresses on casters. what IS with that? all i want is some pants.

Thief Ownage

so, you play with a “tank” mindset in a game which doesn’t effectively have a “tank”. you keep your back to the thief to let him get his max burst dmg on you. you haven’t thought about the weapon options you have available. it doesn’t sound like you run/dodge. but you think you “know your class”. no offence, guy, but your offer to meet us all in a “balanced” game says a lot.

seriously, guy. thieves have some mighty nice burst. but show me a game where a rogue-style doesn’t have mighty fine burst. but it’s often positional. and you can’t even say thieves are perma-stealthed.

sure, they can pop a few stealths now and then. but it’s not permanent. you can counter it a lot easier in gw2 than most games.

your challenge to me was a bit moot as i play a necro/ele. not a thief. not sure what you were getting at there, but as someone who’s greatly enjoyed pvp in many mmos, i’m confidant enough to say while i don’t kill everything alive, i’m happy enough with my ability and don’t see the thief as a particularly op class.

actually, given it’s pretty hard to take a defended keep without an ele or two, i’d say we’re worse.

warriors have some great survivability. i find it difficult to believe every thief you come across destroys you unless you turn your back on him/her and spend too much time thinking about which button to press. i’m not fond of the l2p thing. it sounds to insulting, but really. this thief gripe thing really deserves it.

when people call for balance, often what they want is a helping hand. i’m really struggling to see where the whole op thief thing is. for the record, i don’t pvp with a thief. i use an ele or necro. they should be carving me up. but the only guy who made me feel like a noob was a warrior…

edit: i’m with the thief. l2p.

I’ve heard that some US guilds have moved to Europe servers in search of challenges – Is it a challenge for them to kill the gate?

it is.

it’s a challenge for them when they do it. when you do it, it’s nightcapping noobness. it just depends on your timezone.

Halloween Event Feedback

i’m not sure what the halloween event was, to be honest. i got the first day, so i umm mined candy. happily bought the staff thing from vendor then cried to realise i’d spent hours only for it to be a 4hr thing. lesson learnt: read the fine print before getting excited.

then umm, the next day into the doors and joined a zerg for an hour or so. we killed some stuff. not sure why.

tracked down some ghosts, always behind someone so didn’t have to do anything. got a trinket. was told there was a better trinket, but didn’t have those areas of the map and would need to level to see them.

tried to do a jump puzzle in lion’s arch, but kept getting knocked off by other players. gave up. heard the clock tower was worse so nearly didn’t bother. gave it a go. couldn’t see for charr. fell off. gave that up easily, thinking to go back when it was quieter.

ported all over the place slashing pumpkins.

got in today to find i’d missed the dungeon crawl to see the mad king. i hear he looked cool. wasn’t too worried. i don’t much like dungeons anyway. but would have been nice to see the mad king outside of youtube.

got excited to hear there were shoulder skins and more permanent skins for weapons. didn’t have ingredients to make. saw the gold cost and shrivelled up a little inside.

everything’s quiet and looks over now. i seem to have missed the interesting bits.

to be honest, i’m scratching my head.

lion’s arch looked good, though. very tim burton. i approve.

edit: umm, no complaints there, by the way. just sayin’.

oh, not just the halloween ones! things like boxing gloves and some of the town clothes. i’m not much into the idea of “town” clothes. i want to have something i can wear all over the place.

i’d also like some pants. dresses annoy me.

and pants without buttcapes. i’d pay for those.

Gold sellers vs. BLTC

in Black Lion Trading Co

nysta.6713

i’d say it’s not that gold sellers are selling gold which makes me hate them. it’s not the fact that the people who buy them are lazy talentless freeloaders pretending to be gamers. it’s not that it goes against the tos. it’s not that anet (who i love) doesn’t like them.

i don’t like gold sellers because they’re annoying botty spamming kittenkitteners and deserve to have their gaming fingers broken off and fed to seagulls. simple as that, really.

and as for the cheaters who’ve forgotten how to game hard, i want to send them flowers. many many flowers.

because i always feel it’s a sad day when gamers reach that point where they realise they’re just not good enough to game and need to pay someone else to do it for them. honestly. it’s like losing a friend.

i haven’t bought any because there’s not many to choose from and they’re not exciting me. i don’t mind the account thing, to be honest. i don’t want my toons to all look the same anyway.

i’d love a bit more in the way of serious variety (rather than gimmicky). some really cool armour pieces.

Hurricane Sandy Interrupts our Halloween Event [Merged]

raehvyn:
Non-US players were missing out on a cutscene.

US players are going to be losing houses, having people in their family die, and their cities wrecked. Estimated 100 billion in damage from some people they were speculating on the news tonight.

There is a difference between a hurricane destroying your homeland versus having an off-houred event that could be watched on youtube. Seriously.

there is. and i don’t think the poster was saying loss of property etc wasn’t a bad thing. but i fail to see what this had to do to address what was being mocked – that when time limits are imposed on everyone else, it’s funny. but when they’re imposed on you, it’s not.

those affected by the hurricane are obviously not having a great time. and it’s quite sad they’ll miss out on gw2. because that would no doubt be high on their priorities…

but no one was saying it was sad we were being told to go to youtube.

maybe you could go to youtube, too?

i’m also more disturbed by the whole ethos of the game from the beginning was to encourage us all to enjoy the game together. and to feel included as gamers. for me, this is taking that whole “together” thing too far by demanding everyone log on at a ridiculous time.

considering it was widely acknowledged that wvwvw is a 24/7 thing from anet, i’m just surprised they’d script an event that deliberately excludes a large portion of their gaming population. it seeds only bitterness and strengthens the whole divisiveness we’ve seen thanks to wvwvw.

i really can’t see why, if we’re being told to hop off to youtube rather than be included, everyone couldn’t be youtubed the opening event. or, i mean, a cutscene and then a looped event in the obvious spot it’ll be playing out.

i know the american gamers are chuffed to feel some self-importance again after the wvwvw slap-down, but if this was reversed and it was going off at 3am your time on a monday evening (edit: morning), you’d all be screaming too, rather than sitting there with smug grins.

you’re all missing the “Whatever happens is going to be on livestreams instantly and then on YouTube about five minutes later.” bit. i think this is a prelude to the next level of mmo gaming events: don’t bother showing up. just watch it on youtube.

my question for this is: will there be a video for each class? and each race? i don’t want to roll a charr on youtube.

thanks, anet. i’ve always said it’s better to watch home movies of parties and celebrations than to actually be involved in them. once-off events are awesome.

i hope you all get nightcapped to death this week.

i’m more amazed that i reported a bunch of them one afternoon. they were running around a farm in queensdale. it was annoying because you couldn’t do the event happening there because the bots would just destroy it before you had a chance to target anything.

went back the next day. the same bots are there. running in the same circle. reporting didn’t do much good.

Clocktower Way To Fast

to be honest, i’ve given up on jumping puzzles. they’d be easier if i had an x-box controller, but with keyboard-mouse, it can be frustrating. the last one i bothered with was in lion’s arch. in the caves, jumping across platforms/rocks. the roof of the cavern makes the camera zoom/retract fast.

and it’s not the only jumping puzzle which you have to turn and twist all the time to make a jump and make the camera go nuts. i had to go take some motion sickness pills and lay down for an hour.

for me, jumping puzzles are great in theory, but maybe not the greatest mmo addition. i was a bit sad to find the importance given to them in achievements.

i can honestly see why people like them, though. it’s great to feel you got all the way through. but i’m old enough to remember sitting down on a sega all day playing mario bros and ending up just getting so annoyed by that style of gameplay that anything resembling it automatically drives me nuts. combine that with the wonky camera zoom thing and it’s unplayable.

having said all that, i wouldn’t expect anet to dumb them down or make them easier. the whole point of platformers is they’re a memory game you have to keep doing over and over until you get it right. if you get it right the first 20 times, then the puzzle itself isn’t very good…

edit: also trying to say i wouldn’t want them taken out. i think it adds to the game, even if i personally can’t do them. it’s nice knowing they’re there.

that’s the problem, though. you’re trying to pve in a pvp map. you have to accept the pvp map functions differently and maybe try pve’ing in it when it’s quieter. just because there’s a ballista there, doesn’t mean it will always be attended to by a player.
