So I’m a fairly new necromancer, but not a complete noob. I play power necro, but find it hard to keep up life force in fights, which usually means I’m dead. Any suggestions?
(I run 62006 with dagger/warhorn & staff)
Ok, I play thief with withdraw, so I interrupt heals, didn’t think of it from that perspective. I literally have 2 hours on guard, so haven’t put a lot of time into it, but having fun so far
(Looking for a new main since I’m getting bored of their)
Idk, I’m fairly new to guardian, but in un ranked I like running signer sometimes, on a 02606 build with signet mastery. Idk, I’m a fan of the nearly 11k heal, and the passive is pretty nice when it gets you out of some pinch immobilizes, heavy bleed stacks, etc.
I use shelter too, and run 20606. Just i see the signet as a viable option, any pro guardians have a comment on signet???
I personally think a few things should be done to SMC.
First, make it 3 layers. With outer constantly being Swiss cheese, it would make it more similar to a normal keep, with a very easy to breach outerayer.
Second, make the innermost doors automatically reinforced. Put it this way: if there aren’t alot of defenders v. a blob, it will come down either way.
Third, on the innermost layer (the very end of the hallway going into lords) have 2 oils situated into the ceiling (defenders can walk above the hallway to lords). Additionally, make the oil be the only thing hit table, so the rest of the AoE hits the ceiling and not the user of the oil.
Fourth, a lowered platform at the entrance to the hallway that faces the gate, with cannons and places for acs/ballist. This would be a vulnerable spot people can hit with AoE, hopefully making it difficult to really use, but still helpful.
Idk, thought of these ideas on the fly, while stuck in traffic, so there are probably major flaws in overlooking
Didn’t read any of this thread…only the OP
Here are my uneducated thoughts:
Shiro: soft cc & sustianed dps
Glint: Burst
I was hoping that weapon would be tied to legend, in terms of legend swap being your weapon swap. I am not dissapointed though, revenant seems perfect for hybrid, so something like mallyx/shiro should be a blast in WvW
I’ve recently started playing elementalist again on a dagger dagger build running 02066. Mix of Knights and zerk with celestial trinkets. Fighting higher skill warriors in WvW, I can never seem to get a hold of them. They seem to mitigate every burst rotation i do, and never seen impaired by immob/chill/cripple. Additionally, they are running full zerk and are hitting like a truck. I have a warrior and I know all about dogged March and how bursts they can be, but when I fight higher end eles on my warrior, they seem to have a better handle on controlling me.
So is there any advice you can give me for fighting higher skill warriors?
Given that it’s highly probable we get sword, I’m hoping that the sword has 600 range cleave on the weapon, and it has high mobility and containment. Control is hard to say since im hoping we get more pulls and a lot of cripple/chill rather than stuns and knockbacks. Also some evade frames wouldn’t be bad. Maybe a leap at 600 range which is an evade also, I’m thinking it could be something in air attunenent (if we still have attunements), and a teleport on water (something aiming the lines of entering the water on one side, and coming up 900 range away).
Just some ideas I like, probably not going to get all of them, but some of them would be nice
Lol, the orbs! They’re back…problem with those event is that the last time we had them (referencing when orbs used to be in the game) hacking became overly rampant, and it detracted from the game.
If they could add these events minus the hacking, I would be all down for it!
I do a mix of WvW and pvp. It sounds most of the people on this thread have an issue with not being in tune with their server community. Most servers have 1-2 guilds for each time zone. Even low tiers, like Kaineng, had people on at some point in the day, it was just a matter of knowing the people on the server well enough to find out where the good fights are…
Maybe I’m wrong and im just really good at finding fights in WvW, idk. Those are just my experiences from the transfers I have done.
FC has great roaming guilds like Maki and Main. I was on Kaineng, and spent some time on fc, and they have a great roaming community. Find someone from one of the primary guilds on that server, and try to join. The FC community is a good one, you just need to get into it.

Just to clarify, you guys know you can heal the lord. Get a d/d or d/f ele to start spamming heal skills and heal them 25% in a half minute to minute.
Just for trolling, I ran cleric ele d/d with 6 in water with monk runes, and healed the lord from 50% to full in about 45 seconds… Maybe a bit longer, but it was funny when they came back and had made no progress. I mean, I coukdnt do anything else, but it was funny
I think they just need archers to prioritize guards over players. If I shoot the archer once, it agros to me, which is nothing cause it does nearly no damage if you are running anything other than full zerk. If they prioritize guards, you have to nuke them since you can’t just pull agro and let the guards 1 hit the wall breakers.
(Works really well on LB ranger or engineer)
Yea six , I don’t really know what I was thinking, I posted this about 5 minutes after I woke up.
Anyone know when the last three specializations will be revealed? I haven’t been following very closely, so I don’t actually know the release schedule (if there is one).
Thanks in adacanced
I mained thief for 3 years, since launch. I recently started playing warrior. As a thief, I always imagined Warriors were bad (except for a select few) cause I would steam roll them, but I would see some warriors just spamming skills and occasionally being effective. Then I tried warrior. It is not very boring, and it does take skill to know how to counter other classes.
It would be
Asura: Moa and Cats/drakes
Human/Sylvari: horses and cats/drakes
Norn/charr: bear and Minotaur/devourer
Best one I’ve gotten was when I was playing 66200 d/d in WvW, and got a 15k Backstab against a ranger who had literally no time to react cause of bassilisk venom. He died in the mug→CnD→Backstab combo, and whispered me “You scrub, stop using perma stealth like a little noob. Only people with not skill will stay in stealth the whole fight.”
I was blocked, but he sent me another message, “just wait until my son gets on, he is a professional PvPer and will wipe your scrubby little kitten across the floor as soon as you come out of stealth.”
This all happened on Monday, and I couldn’t stop laughing
Yea, yea, yea, and the addition of reveal would break thieves, and the warrior adrenaline changes would make warriors obsolete, and the stability changes would make WvW die. None of these have really ended anything, only change things.
D/D works with experience. It is a build best played running super high burst (66200 or 66002), and best played by a thief with +2 years on the class and who is very good with it. It takes a lot of skill to survive, but when played right will cut through stuff like a ranger through shadow refuge
Make ashram thief is the best. Impossible for them to target you
IGN: Oscuro Fenix
Playstyle: WvW (most)/ sPvP (sometimes)
Server: Crystal Desert
Experience:
I have played thief since launch, running a variety of unique power and Condi builds (some better than others, some becoming fairly popular). I have done a variety of 1vXs ranging from 1v2 to 1v5 (only counting full level 80s). I must warn, I get serious rage since my main build is a condition build that Ive played since January 2013 (00644 p/d condition thief, NOT perplexity), but I’m also good with my s/d and d/d thief builds
Now, being a component thief, many people have asked me a variety of questions, from “Oscuro, what is the best thief build?” (Thief is so great there is no “best”) or “Oscuro, what is the best way to learn thief?” (Roam with a good thief and get practice. Fueling is a great way to get better). However, my most cherished question is “Oscuro, how many people have you 1vXd at a single time?”, to which I reply “I have fought 1v5, but my greatest accomplishment was me and osc 2 [another thief] doing a 2v17”.
I know many may be skeptical of my claim, but I can thoroughly tell them to kitten off, like a true thief does to all those hate whispers
P.s. I’ve been thinking thieves should start one of these, glad you took the initiative!
(edited by oscuro.9720)
I think it would be cool if those WvW percentages at the bottom of the WvW “general” tab, you should be able to add to those. These are things like magic find (as stated earlier) as well as some crafting bonuses and what not. These are currently stated as “server bonuses”, but they can now be rank bonuses.
I also think that bieng able to put points into getting much better loot from rank up chests. This has always been a problem. Giving better rewards to people with higher ranks…well… That is just what makes sense…
So I’m Oscuro. I was on Kaineng, but transferred to Crystal Desert about 2 weeks ago. Based on what I’ve seen, Kaineng has politics issues, but a night cap crew. Guilds like Owls on Kaineng would be your best bet for consistent groups with higher skill level. I would recommend SIN, but we all just transferred to see what higher tiers are like. FC is a good server, a lot more NA coverage, and some very skilled guilds. They’re also getting PvE plahers coming in. They are fighting Kain though, so idk. Honestly, t7-6 is the best for all of that except coverage. There are occasional Zergs, but never blobs. Roaming is the heart and soul of low tier life, so if u want a place for roaming, stay down there. Tbh, some of being on CD, I can say I do find lower tiers a very VERY different feel. Best of luck Id say try FC next if u don’t like Kaineng, sometimes changing servers within a tier can change things
I’m just hoping that it is a sniper specialization. Give us a long charge time, but 2k range. Give us some type of permanent stealth out of combat that makes us move super slow, and than a real long duration reveal, so I can snipe people than run s/d and be raged at more
I only hope for 2 things.
1) Sword hits 5 targets and has 600 range
2) Tempest is highly mobile
We need to go to ANET HQ and demand this.
You agree with me fellow warriors, right ?
P.S. hope you get my point of this thread < put flame shield anyway:)
Why is this a question and no. Having been around since closed beta days and using longbow throughout most of the time, I have seen it go from utterly terrible but still fun, to being brought to overpowered, and them readjusted to be balanced. Longbow is fine as it is. You want to remove longbow and have rifle be our only means of ranged combat? Rifle would need a complete overhaul because it is in a miserable state.
Give a suggestion for replacement or suggestion for fix instead of filling the forum with more garbage posts.
Its zo OPz.
but nvm Anet can delete Rifle too.
Wo Wo Wo, flame all u want at that terrible LB but leave my rifle out of this!
Why not mace??? Anybody? No…okay.
#maceOP
New weapon: Staff (melee based)
•The staff would be very brute force based, focused on beating people into a pulp with a succession of moderately high damaging hits. Lots of medium hits=person dead.
New Utility type: Wards
•Wards would not be real magic, but more of battle utility magic. For example, casting a ward so for X amount of time, when critically hit, you gain protection. Other things like when struck deal AoE damage/poison/chill/weakness/CC.
New Mechanic: Rage
•Rage works in a unique way. It builds similar to necromancer death shroud, but gives a boost to weapon damage, speed, and range. So once you build a full bar of rage, you can use your f1 to boost your weapon capabilities. At 25%, you get a damage increase. At 50%, you also get a weapon attack speed increase. At 75%, your attack range is doubled and all cool downs are reduced by half. At 100%, you also take 50% less damage for the duration.
•This would obviouslyast far shorter than deathshroud, and does not offer a second health pool. The object is to basically enter into a frenzy with the rage you’ve built up, and decimate everything around you. It drains very quickly, but at a steady rate. Weapon attacks and hits taken do not affect the drain speed. It can be entered and exited like death shroud, and has a small cool down (7 seconds?). The affect of Rage is based on when you start it, they do not diminish as it drains. So if you start at 100%, you will have all the benefits for the entire bar’s duration
What you lose:
All ranged weapons. Longbow and rifle will no longer be available. I know this seems like a big trade off, but i just don’t see a berserker who is fueled by rage being very into pew pawing people. Generally when u fight out of anger, you want to be up close and personal. This would also break The hambow routine if there are traits like resistance/stability on Rage, and a trait for curing a condition every 2 seconds in Rage. Maybe remove conditions on use too. Idk, the possibilities for traits are endless imo.
Just some thoughts I thought I should get out
(edited by oscuro.9720)
Or that lovely mesmer portal bomb lol.
Oh yeah, it was awesome when it wasnt limited to 20 players!
Entire zergs just appearing in front of you, now that was real madness!
I do miss the fun we had during the first few months, before all the nerfing.
yea…those good ole days when all servers were qued and every class was broken so they were all OP, and therefore balanced!
I can give you one solid reason that instant level 80 will be okay: WvW.
I myself an a mostly WvW player ankitten ot interested in the “leveling experience” and almost all of PvE unless I’m doing bounties. I try some of the new content every once in a while, but for the most part I stick to killing people in my BL. WvW is not viable outside of level 80 no matter what people will tell you. For WvW players to enjoy revenant without having to grind through PvE or EOTM, and enjoy the shiny new WvW features (so excited for them btw) with the shiny new profession.
Just one reason I believe times will be useable…most others have been mentioned.
A lot of you who played hammer warrior and enjoyed laught as you at unlocked people now get to experience the pain and frustration that ranged classes have suffered for far too long.
Pirate ship actually promotes more diversity. EVERY class can be viable instead of four, like it was earlier. I have run the “pirate ship” meta for years now, long before stability changes. Having to kite without ANY cc actually makes it MUCH easier now. Just because the builds you “love” to play aren’t brokenly overpowered in groups anymore doesn’t mean that everyone is dissatisfied. INFACT, many people prefer the sta I lift changes. U may say no to that, but that is most likely because u surround yourself with the other hammer warriors who were ht the hardest.
I’ll give u a way to play warrior: run rifle & GS. I do on my warrior, and it works great, even though people think rifle is “bad”. Guardians can just run wall of reflect and end people…
I would say “turn AoE to fast cast” is very class based. For example, ranger longbow 5 is sometimes restricted when using fast cast because the 1500 range makes it a tricky skill to use when in a tower or above your enemy.
Also, Meta builds is only if you have no clue what is happening, even then, I started by playing a custom build, and just became good with it. Playing META can even be limiting…
TS is a really REALLY important one if you only get one thing from this post, because then the server can take care of you
Hands down best is necro. That fear is so amazing when you are 1/2v5+Ing at hills cats spot, In a tower (set walkway up comes to mind ) and that teen spot at NEC. There are other places it is useful, as well as goo for setting up a BS.
The other good ones are dependent on build. Gunk is mediocre with dagger mainland because of the reveal. With s/d, it is one of the best. Warrior skill when fighting outnumbered is rest because it puts up decent melee damage as well as those reflects.
Mesmer and thief skills are solid skills that are always good, but very rarely game changing like the aforementioned.
Guardian skill is also nice though I think it should be unblockable. Sometimes it’s hard to land and the daze seems short, but still very useful when used right.
This brings me to the worst two…ranger and ele. Ranger skill is good mid combat. It can be game changing, but I find it so situational that I can’t consider it a consistently helpful skill. I also think it is fairly worthless vs ranger since they endlessly apply condis or they are power and power rangers are easy 95% of the time. I know some of you may rage at this and tell me to l2p, but these are my opinions and I know I’m a pretty component thief so don’t bother.
Ele ice shard is great when it lands because of the chill and all, but is kinda low damage, unreliable hits, and I would rather just hit them with daggers.
So, in order:
Necro
Engi/warrior
Thief/mesmer
Guard
Ranger
Ele
(edited by oscuro.9720)
SB is great in those fights…though can be limited at times unless you are good with it (sounds like the thief was). I personally run o/d off hand more often now than SB because I like how it fjnctions and I feel t complements perfectly with d/p
Thief/ thief is the most fun. After that, I’d say a Tanky war or guard is great (especially hammer war) for the CCs and focus. But dual d/x thieves are the best if they are played well. Just really hard to kill, and when you kill one, you have to worry about the other, which is annoying alone.
Tbh, I run solo mostly. Solo thief is very fun, just to tail Zergs and farm your loot bags, picking them off until they have lost 15+, than just tell ur cmd u killed 15 of the enemy zerg and they are at D location so the vid comes and wipes. If they are a small group of sub 10, you can burst 1, wait for them to come Rez, and than use dagger cleave to put high pressure on the people rezzing. Usually I can down 1 more and force the others to pull off and heal. Usually it works best if you burst the worst player in the group. Prod them a little bit to find who is squishy and low-damage (every group has one unless they are all full zerk or full tank). I run this tactic a lot against small man groups since it’s what I fight the most.
If you are looking to do this, build with SA and not full zerk. I used to run full zerk, and it helps you learn how to sustain. Also moving around a lot in stealth is a good thing since a lot of groups will focus on cleaving you and pulling you into melee.
Just some tips
The best is death blossom at the perfect peak. U r upside down with not daggers extended outwards, and u r floating mid air
I like the clothe suggestion. It would be fantastic to use with p/d on a power build and just spam sneak attack since they can’t escape!
I run two different builds, one in pvp, one in WvW. Since this is pvp, I will give u my opinions.
I run 0/6/2/0/6 with D/P. Full zerk with rune of the eagle. Works very well. What I do unique is run my other set as p/d. This makes me do guards a joke because you do a hit melee, use withdraw, switch to p/d, and kite them. The shadow shot crits for 3-4k, and stealth attack chains for 5-6k. Works real well against their low health pool and makes it a big surprise for them when u use the pistol 2 (immob) than switch and heartseeker them when they get low.
Really confuses people and is very effective I suggest you try it
Without ur heavies, you can survive…if you run SA
Zerg diving ftw
Aye, I’m on FC. And thank you for verifying you are too, this post confused me because u worded it like u were on Kaineng… Still stand by what I said with the Rams and all
Wait…ur on Kaineng? Kaineng is green and ur in a blue SMC…that would mean ur on FC cause FC is blue. If you are in FC, FC had ques on several occasions during reset. FC has enough numbers to handle most anything the enemy brings on reset…though ET did have a lot yesterday…
TBH that’s not a terrible thing. U have no idea how useful those Rams can be in a zerg fight. Just hop on that ram and fear everything forever. Not saying it’s justified or anything, but when it’s 5 v 15, and those rams save you from the pew pew Rangers and help u win, you will never look at a rang the same again
This is still a super troll thing to do, and it could be someone in the mood for trolling, not necessarily a cross-server player.
AND, I would like to address the last point of the poster above me. Being outmanned without supply doesn’t mean I’ve lost by any means. Usually, yes, but if you are good, no. You can staff ele/lv range/necro bomb/thief them to death of you are skilled enough to do so. It looks like SMC is upgraded, so you have cannons on inner that are very hard to reach… There are many things you can do without supply, including killing one than running through the portal,
Ive run with and led guild groups that have 5-10 and hold 20-25 l, sometimes even wipe the other group, at camps…in fact, fighting from inside the tower is one of the most detrimental things. Going behind the attacking force is better because everyone is loooking forward, and usually the pvders stay on the gate and the small group of intelligent people attack. They are easy to wipe, and the pvders still don’t know what is going on and u can wipe them too. U may say that it is “easier said than done” but I’ve done it multiple (borderline a lot) of times.
(edited by oscuro.9720)
I run a lot of como groups. I’m assuming you are talking WvW…
I find d/f to be better than d/d in group como as the defensive utilities allow for you to better protect ur team and secure stomps/rezzed, while offering more overall dps if played right.
I play a Knights/zerk mix on armor with celestial trinkets.
4/0/6/4/0
Diamond skin is a very useful trait, as is the earths embrace (can’t get crit while in earth). I find diamond skins much more useful as it is not limited to a single attunement. Also running toughness→ Condi damage puts you at near 1k Condi damage while maintaining 2.2k attack, 40% crit, and 2.8k armor. All of this coupled with the utility of elementalists is fantastic.
This build is also capable of soloing towers and keeps and fighting 1vX scenarios.
One last thing…if there are a lot of power necros or Rangers, try to get out front, pull focus, than put up earth 4. It reflects projectiles and I have dined nearly an entire group because I was reflecting so many high dps projectiles. (Reflected a kills hot into 2 people for 9k each and basically ended them).
Really a fun spec and I urge you to try it
Well, buying all this stuff sounds well and good, but you may be asking yourself “Whatof I don’t want to buy all new stuff?”
Well, my good sir, look no further! I have all the answers and more! As many of the upstanding elementalists have been saying on this thread, it is a matter of key binding!
I personally use a very cheap keyboard and a brand new $15 mouse from best buy! Very high quality equipment that is very economical, and clearly doesn’t restrict my capabilities as a player since I 1v3 on a consistent basis in WvW and can solo keeps!
So, at this point, you may be wondering “How does this obviously incredibly skilled Oscuro fellow do it?”. That is a good question! Having previously mained thief, the plethora of skills elementalist has cede to and unique play style required some adaptation! I use the WSAD very much in combat, as it assists with turning the screen with the mouse quicker (in case you didn’t know that one ). So, I have my first Utility bound to the Q key, my second to the E key, and my third third to the C key! These are all very easy to reach from the WSAD controler layout and allow for very quick utilization. It’s best to have your “get out of jail free card” (E.g. Mistform) on C since it is a bit harder to reach! Also, the elite is bound to the Z key since I usually prep elites out of combat rather than mid combat!
Now, many people struggle with the f1-4 combinations for attunment swap! This is silly, but understandable! What happens is you have one hand to reach all the way from 0 to f1 and back to WSAD. With the new key ingles, you will find it much easier to access f1-4 without moving them!
GL, HF!
I was thinking that rifle for thief would be a non-Condi weapon. What I was kind of thinking was it would have 1500-2000 range (maybe traitable higher). The attack functions on a unique system, where at longer range, it has reduced damage, but increased crit chance, and at close range, it has higher damage, reduced crit chance, and a chance to knock back enemies on a critical hit.
The stealth skill would be something like a 3000 range (max targeting range I think) shot that glows bright yellow with sparks and moves at ballista speed. It’s base damage is at 4-5k but is very obvious and makes a loud noise on firing. Increases Damage with range.
For class mechanic, maybe something like:
F1: Spike your enemy with your off hand weapon. Deals damage every second for 12 seconds or until retrieved. Resets if your target downs with the weapon inside of them. If you get into melee range, it chains into:
Retrieve weapon:
Does heavy damage and allows you to swap weapons again
This idea is just off of the top of my head, and while f1 is active, you cannot weapons swap.
So here is what I can say on this.
1. Completely viable for roaming and outnumbered fighting IF you run stances. It takes some effort to make it work but can be very beneficial if you pull it off (KS 12 k while having 3k armor and 27k health is awesome)
2. I see power for war as more viable. You can be good with Condi I just think it is lame on war.
3. Compeltly disagree. Warriors seem weak because to reach the upper echelon of players it takes more effort. It is easy to become decent/good, than to become really good is really hard because they are fairly predictable, but they can still be very good.
Just my opinions, flame at me if you want, idgaf
What if it was a main hand and off hand shield?
Dual shields!!! So OP, must have!
I think Queen Nadijeh could be cool. Founder of the sun spears and all is pretty important and she was a Primeval King. Just food for thought
I would love an asura legend though

Lol, it’s one day guys, chill out and live life a little rather than getting kitten over some animations cam hanging in game. Play it for some fun and just enjoy yourself…it’s a game after all.
