Do you know who is really ruining your game experience? TP flippers. Do you know why? Because they make everything on the TP more expensive and are the richest players in the game, although they don’t even play the game. They’re just flipping items. Go deal with those first before you start complaining about key farmers.

And we come full circle with this. As we’ve explained to you many times, because you don’t understand how the economies work, you assume TP players are a problem. They are the richest players because they put in effort to understanding the mechanics of selling. Just like why some people end up working for McDonald’s all their life, and some people create companies like MicroSoft or Ebay.

This.

Also HHR Lost Prophet,

This is a thread about key farming and has nothing to do with TP flippers. Please try to stay on topic and not use every thread as an excuse to push your anti-TP flipper agenda. Thank you.

On topic: I don’t have any reason to believe that key farming is dead. It MAY change, but we don’t know. Even if chapters are segmented, and locked behind accessing the PS at level 10, Leveling tomes are not hard to come by, and you should still be able to do it quickly. I don’t see it as an issue. Nothing in the blog suggested anything about locking the PS until level 10. People are using “China does it that way” as an excuse. Please don’t try to be so negative all the time, and take every little thing way out of context.

These will help find one that suits what you are looking for.
As a beginner I personally would advise against guilds that ask for 100% representation. While they may be great and awesome people, you shouldn’t feel compelled to always represent only that guild. You can join up to 5 guilds, so you can branch out and find different ones for diffrent areas of interest. I have my main guild, a guild I started for a guild bank, a small guild with some dungeon runners, and a “secondary” guild (which I mainly represent when we need help on guild missions, or a world boss or something.)

If you are interested, I can send you an invite to Cat Biscuits later on tonight, and you can at least check it out.

I’m looking for people to play with not guild although ill look into it.

A guild basically is a group of people you can play with. In a smaller guild, they often do things like map exploration, jumping puzzles, dungeons, etc. together in a group. Look at it more like an expanded friends list, that has a group chat function even when outside of a party.

Nope. It’s never too late to start again. But be aware there are some cool changes coming up for new (and returning) players. As far as the Living story, season 1 is not replayable at this time. It is something they would like to implement, but later down the road. Also if you missed the first few episodes of season 2, they can be unlocked again permenently for all your characters via the gem store (300 gems per episode I believe) but are not playable until level 80.

Welcome back!!

I think you are avoiding the point. In our conversations with JS, we have been assured and taught the finer points of the gem exchange, and the gw2 economy as a whole. So when he says its working as intended and that there is no inflation and that the gem exchange is not an indicator of inflation, there has not been any reason not to take him at his word. You are basing all your arguments on the assumption that JS is incompetent, or lying to us. We are not saying he can do no wrong. What we are saying, is that with our own understanding of the game economics, and with the insight and information provided by JS who actually has the numbers, and the metrics, and the knowledge, that you are completely wrong in your assumption and perception of a broken and inflated economy.
Why would Anet knowingly and willingly LIE to their players? They have much to lose if they did, up to and including lawsuits. So calling the economy director a liar, or a fool, is not a good way to try to make your point. Calling us liars and fools places you in a position of a child throwing a tantrum. It makes you look silly.

So everything you say is only going to be lookes at as a spoiled child throwing a fit, no one will take you seriously, no one will want to try to discuss anything with you, or try to show you reason. In the end you’ve only hurt amd embarrassed yourself.
The only reason we are still iin this thread is for our own amusement and lack of anything better to do. You’ve not won the argument, you’ve not proven your point, you’ve only highlighted your own ignorance and willfull stubbornness.

@nightshade

A couple of points. (Im not going to quote every post and response)
I may have been mistaken about a pool of gold in the exchange. Nonethless, there is a finite amount of gems. (Quotes from js confirm this). And buying gems with gold only increases the prices. This is intended. It may very well reach 100g for 100 gems at some point. Does this mean its broken? No. Does this mean there is “horrendous inflation” not at all. If we, as players, dont want to see prices get that high then we need to take action and convert gems to gold. Yeah it may not be as profitable, but its the only way to stop the price increase. Period.
Forcing to grind to get gold to afford gems? No not really. You can earn plenty of gold just playing the game and doing the things you enjoy. There is nothing about this game that requires a grind, and never will be.

And finally. Ive come to the conclusion that you just like to hear yourself speak. And bu trying to prove everybody wrong (including js) you’ve only managed to reveal your own stubborn ignorance on the subject.

Also your comparison of the gem exchange to a real world exchange is flawed. In a real world exchange, the rates are constantly in flux, and can shift dramatically within hours. For example: US dollar to euro. The rate is determined by the current value of the USD when compared to the Euro. But both economies are constantly shifting and the rates changes accordingly. In the gem exchange, both the gold and the gem value do not change. Gems have always remained constant (a real world value of $1.25 USD) and gold has not lost value either. The in game vendors have had the same prices from the beginning. The TP prices fluxuate based on player supply and demand. It is easier to get gold now then last year, so the TP prices reflect that. Players with more gold now are more willing to pay more. This doesnt mean its inflated. It means that players are earning gold more by doing activities that offer more gold as a reward and ignoring activities that dont have an immediate gold payout.
Plus, gold is being destroyed at nearly the same rate as its being generated through the various gold sinks. (TP fees, way points, traits, etc.) So if the same amount of gold is destroyed per hour as its being generated, how is this inflation?

For anything regarding the currency exchange….

As far as other ideas like the GW2 economy has rampant inflation….

The gold to gem rate on the exchange is not a measure of inflation. If you consider how the exchange works…

Is the reason you say inflation isn’t a problem simply that the items with crazy high prices are the only things with a price rising so rapidly?

When looking at inflation I use a large bundle of common goods…. I never use super-rare items or anything involving gems.

Question:
Do you care/will do something about the fact game economy is really perceived as broken?
Or if you instead think its well perceived… There were many threads about how important economy perception is in a videogame.

If by “really perceived” you mean that you mistakenly perceive a fantastic and functioning system as broken, then no… I don’t care.

John Smith:
1. Inflation is increasing prices drastically and causing a series of negative outcomes.
A. This simply isn’t true. Inflation is very, very well controlled in gw2.
(link not working: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Golds-from-dungeon-is-killing-the-economy/page/4#post4141549)

These are just SOME of the responses from John Smith.. 1) Inflation is not happening and 2) The gem exchange is not a sign of inflation. It never has been and never will be.
So unless John Smith is completely wrong… Any arguement that the gem exchange is a proof of inflation is incorrect. I have tried to explain it to you, but for whatever reason you can’t accept it. So maybe the words of John Smith will help educate you.

to pdavis… go look at a REAL world exchange. Real world exchanges are ALL ABOUT the relative buying power of one nation’s economy as compared to another. That is expressed in the relative value of one nation’s CURRENCY in regards to another. Like say, GEMS and GOLD.

And please learn MATH. With all due respect to Mr. Smith, a more famous Smith once wrote a very important book on this whole topic. I had to read parts of it once upon a time. It’s the sort of thing that gives you a new perspective. You might try it.

My point being again… EIGHT POINT FIVE TIMES the gold cost of 18 months ago. That’s an increase of 100% base Two gold cost about every two months. TEXT BOOK INFLATION. Gems are fixed good, w/ a fixed buying price in the shop. I don’t care what Mr. Smith is SAYING, the MATH is SCREAMING something quite different.

Put yet another way… IF a year ago you went to the store and bought a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk for a dollar, and then TODAY you went to that SAME store, bought the SAME type of milk and bread, but NOW had to pay EIGHT AND A HALF DOLLARS FOR IT, what would YOU, pdavis, call that? What would you be saying?

I really would like to know.

My apologies for the length of this one. Cheers.

I’m getting the impression that you do not understand how the gem exchange works. I’ll try to break it down.
There is a set amount of gold, and a set amount of gems in the exchange. Everytime you use gold for gems, you add gold to the pool and remove gems, creating an imbalance. The more people use gold for gems, the greater the imbalance, thus higher prices for gems. The amount of gems you can buy with cash has always remained constant. $1.25 for 100 gems. When you use gems to convert to gold, you add gems into the pool and subtract gold. Doing so decreases the imbalance and shifts it the other direction. (i.e. lowering the price.) The only reason the prices are the way they are is that many players use gold to get gems, which creates a greater imbalance between gold and gems in the exchange, and higher prices. This is NOT inflation. This is a byproduct of players wanting to get gems for “free”.

So far there is plenty of evidence pointing to it being very likely.

You however have no evidence that says otherwise.

Again it’s speculation, on both sides. The forums are also known for taking the most extreme possibility of anything as an attempt to prove that the game is basically dead/economy grossly inflated/new whatever will break the game.
All the evidence I’ve seen is conjectual and circumstantial at best. As I said, in my other post, unless we see confirmation one way or another, stating it as hard fact is misleading, especially to a new player who is trying to see what the game is about by browsing the forums before jumping into it.

I think we’re all assuming it will match what the Chinese client does, which is unlocks at lvl 10, because the rest of the “Levelling unlock” system is ported straight across from there. And also, we’re making that assumption because if we make enough noise about it now, there’s a small chance they might realise how stupid it is and change it before it’s too late.

I can understand that, however what bothers me the most about all of this is that the level 10 unlock, and the death of the key farm are being talked about as its the word of God, and undenible fact. When the only “fact” we have is that there is a change to the story journal and how we can play the story.

So if we do want to make enough noise about it, please make sure that IF this is indeed true, then it would be bad because of x,y,z is known, and not as a misleading statement to draw more people to the cause.

Might keep these types of very long threads built on complete incorrect analysis of the economy from popping up ….. but I doubt it.

It was more for our benefit so that we wouldn’t have search for a specific post of his but instead just a link to the thread.

You can always use my post above. I believe it covers the basics of inflation, and gold to gem exchange.

Endless repair canister.. go

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So, if such an item gets released I have to ask:

What is the purpose of armor damage?

Before they removed repair fees it was a (small) goldsink and an attrition mechanic (die too often and you have to leave, similar to DP in GW1).

If you can repair your armor anywhere and for free, it basically becomes obsolete.

Hmmm makes sense. Although I can see the appeal for it as a convience item. But what if it had a say 10 min cool down between uses? That way you couldn’t just spam it, and if you were dying so often that you would need it in a 10 min period, then maybe you should reexamine your playing skills…..

[Farming] Prices on TP must go down

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

I can agree that the TP prices on some mats (T6 anyone?) is getting to be pretty high. However, as stated before, there are not as many mat farmers around. When asking about advice for crafting, the answer is always “Farm dungeons and buy them off the TP. It’s easier and faster”. So if no one is farming them (i.e. bringing in large quantities of them) of course the prices are going to rise, as the supply input has dwindled. Solution? Don’t take the easy route and buy all your mats. Farm them, and sell those you don’t need. I don’t think Anet needs to or should get involved as the TP market is player driven. We set the prices. But of course thats not going to happen, as it will always be easier to run dungeons and just buy them.

For anything regarding the currency exchange I will say that the currency exchange is NOT a good indicator of market prices or inflation, it wasn’t designed to be.

As far as other ideas like the GW2 economy has rampant inflation or there are other virtual economists online that don’t approve of this economy, that’s simply not even close to true.

The gold to gem rate on the exchange is not a measure of inflation. If you consider how the exchange works and interacts with players you’ll realize that it’s a great measure of only one thing…

When you consider game inflation, do you primarily look at the prices of farmable material and blues/greens or do you take into account super-rare items acquired from drops, rewards or gems? Is the reason you say inflation isn’t a problem simply that the items with crazy high prices are the only things with a price rising so rapidly?

When looking at inflation I use a large bundle of common goods
(the bundle changes depending on the time frame and the game state). I never use super-rare items or anything involving gems.

Question:
Do you care/will do something about the fact game economy is really perceived as broken?
Or if you instead think its well perceived, why don’t you look at every single thread that had the luck to remain for few hours in general section?

First Personal Story Step at Level 10 is bad

While they are porting things over from the Chinese Client, they were very specific about locking the WvW and PvP buttons on the tool bar until level 18 and 22. Making such a dramatic change to the PS unlocking at level 10 without so much as a whisper doesn’t fit into their MO. Yes the blogs tend to be a bit vague, but with changes of that magnitude they are very upfront about it.

True, they don’t specifically say but they have that system already made and set up in China. They just need to port it in, not completely remake it for our client.

It’s also in the words they use:
“story chapters become another big moment to look forward to earning and unlocking as your character levels up.” Here they are saying that they are something you will be looking forward to. If you get the first section immediately after reaching level 2, then you haven’t spent any time “looking forward to it”.

Yes, but what is being left out is: “As another addition with the level-up guide, we’re updating the personal story steps using our new Story Journal so they come in story chunks that unlock all at once per chapter. When a story chapter is unlocked as a level-up reward, you’ll be able to play straight through the entire chapter from start to finish and not have any awkward starts and stops that throw off the storyline.”

This says to me is that I can play through an entire story chapter seamlessly without interruption. As it is, with each chapter, I need to step away from the story, and level up a bunch before I can go to the next step in the story chapter.

Adding in the level 10 restriction does exactly the opposite. The story starts at level 2. Now if I had to wait until level 10 to be able to finish that story, where is the seamless “play from start to finish without awkward starts and stops”?

I don’t know how the Chinese Client has included this problem, but I don’t see it coming here without first changing several things, and without an announcment of some kind stating that is what is happening.

Does the personal story, post level 1 instance, begin at level 10 (end of first arch) or at level 2 (like today) after the feature patch goes live on the 9th?

I am inclined to think its going to stay the same. There is no evidence to support that it is moving up to level 10. (but then again there is no supporting evidence that it will stay the same). Until we can get a clear answer from the devs, EVERYTHING is pure opinion and speculation. And the way people are on the forums, you’ll more then likely see the level 10 theory and how game breaking it will be.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I saw nothing in that blog post that mentioned anything about keys. They did mention that they would reevaluate rewards. My guess is that the gear you get to choose from will actually become useful. But removing keys as a PS story reward? I’m not seeing it, but maybe I forgot my tinfoil hat….

Considering so far they’ve only brought over the chinese changes with little or no change, it’s safe to assume the first “bundle” is unlocked at level 10.

This is bad, even for new players who don’t key farm.

If the first story was unlocked at level 10, then they would have to do away with the whole beginning part of the game. There is nothing anywhere that says the story starts at level 10. Or anything that even hints at a suggestion of an insuation of a rumor of starting the personal story at level 10. A change like that would surly be announced, just like making the PvP button invisible until level 18. This feels like making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Anyone remember the doom and gloom of the april 15th patch? That beserker was going to nerfed into the ground, and no one would be playing beserker after the 15th? Or that megaservers would completely destroy the game making it impossible to be able to do the world events or temples? Yeah none of that happened.

Well, that is exactly what is happening on the Chinese client. Your story doesn’t continue after the tutorial until you reach level 10. Everything we are getting is basically a port of the Chinese system. There is a basis for this.

So while it may exist in the Chinese system, Making such a change here would surely be announced. It seems they are just bringing the leveling system and reward notifications over.

Edit: Until there is a red post on this matter, I am going to assume that this is wild, paraniod speculation and nothing more.

My guess is that the gear you get to choose from will actually become useful. But removing keys as a PS story reward? I’m not seeing it, but maybe I forgot my tinfoil hat….

@nightshade

Let me put this simply.

1)Gem>gold:Gold>gem exchange is not a sign of inflation. It’s an exchange rate.
2)All your suggestions are based on the assumption that the economy and the exchange are broken. The economy is working like a finely tuned clock, and is not suffering from inflation. The exchange is working properly and as intended.

I understand it can be disheartening to see the gold>gem prices continually rise, but the only way to combat this is to break out your wallet. If you want to buy the new shiny things in the gem store, converting gold is only going to increase the price for gems, which doesn’t do anyone any favors. Also about the gold sink suggestions. Introducing a mechanic where it gives an actual advantage over another player places it in the realm of pay to win. So one player can pay cash for gold, and buff all his characters up to say +50% speed. Yes it does remove that gold. However a newer/not as rich player, can only afford to buy a 10% speed increase, and is now at a disadvantage. Especially in PvP or WvW.

As far as classes being slow or not having speed buffs? Guardians actualy have several skills that grant swiftness, and a couple that allow for teleportation. Mesmers Also have several skills for teleportation and swiftness. If anything necros lack much of any kind of mobility. However there are temporary speed boosters which can be purchased or found in black lion chests. And from what I understand these are not used in PvP, and not sure about WvW.

@Arrow

Farming is allowed, and encouraged. Abusing a bug (exploit) in order to farm is not.

As far as stuff to do? There is plenty to do. Tired of doing a 15 min dungeon run? Try doing the same run, but clearing every mob. Did you also know that some of the dungeons have hidden areas and secret bosses/encounters? Try to find them all!!
Working your way toward ascended or a legendary? Instead of farming gold through dungeons and buying what you need, try farming for ALL of it. Everything can be gotten in game, and at a decent pace, if you know where to go. Try to get the belchers bluff title. Or the yak slapper title. Why not try to solo a complete dungeon, every path, while using say Nomads gear or something?

If Anet were to continually put out new “content” in the form that you are thinking, then any of the “old” content would quickly become irrelevant and dead.

Okay man you are lost. Farming is NOT encouraged in this game. When ever someone finds a farm and shares it anet goes kitten mode and nerfs it. The people who make real gold that is messing with the tp are the people who get on the game to play ONLY the TP. The people who make gold off of pve have to play for several hours to make the same amount of a gold a tp player makes in 10 minutes.

Farming is not a gw2 thing. This game has gold sinks out the butt and they keep basing the gold in the market off the people with insane amounts of gold. This method reks new players and people who are casuals have no chance at getting any gold to mean anything. Basic zerker stuff for pve costs 7g and stuff and for a new player it takes a while to get 7g.

The amount of content in this game is very VERY low. It caters to new players joining the game while old players linger and torture them selves waiting on real content. You can clown your way through most dungeons now days.

This game has many issues and everyone already knows them so lets not waste time on that. But back on topic, farming has never been encouraged. That is why DR and RNG plague every player in this game.

The devs say differently.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Let-s-Start-the-Karma-DR-Dialogue/page/5#post338355

There is another red post, saying it in much plainer terms, but I cant find it at the moment. And as said in the same post DR is an anti bot mechanism. Not an anti farmer mechanism. Every farm that has been nerfed was due to events not spawning correctly/broken, the players being jerks toward each other resulting in massive amounts of reporting, and crying on the forums, and exploiting. Every event farm, QD, FG, CS. are all still there and still farmable.

Since there are only 2 other zones that CAN drop T6s, which is it? Frostgorge or Southsun?

Also, you do realize that it’s not direct material drops in Orr that make it lucrative but the sheer number of enemies that can drop Heavy loot bags….right?

I’ve actually found that mobs in Dry Top have a very decent T6 drop rate.

As a response to both of you.
Yes Dry Top has a great direct T6 drop rate. Also in Frostgorge, there are some great places, out of the way, where very few if any go, that also have a decent direct drop rate. Also there are several places in WvW for direct T6 drops and bags. However farming there relys on your server. If in a WvW centric server, farming there would not be a good idea, as your spot could be better filled with someone wanting to WvW. And if in a non WvW centric server, with little to no queues it won’t be an issue.

So we are assuming that as a heavy, you will not ever get medium or light armor drops in order to salvage for cloth. The blog states that you will still get those types of drops, but not as often. More often then not I, as a heavy, get light and medium armor drops then heavy with the current system. We also don’t know if cloth will be made available as salvaging results regardless of the armor type. Which would make sense, as you need cloth to craft it. I just can’t imagine that such a thing as limiting which profession can obtain materials would not have been addressed and already taken care of.

Branden Gee post only confirms my concerns… they do not have a clue about their game. I’m sorry for Branden but if he is a developer and needs to spend time coding and training then its not his job to think. The game designer (not the developer) should be the person 20 hours a day inside GW2 to understand the game and not let decisions like go through. This is not the first time ANet toss something out that shows their lack of knowledge on the game.

And this shows that you know nothing about development. Good developers are constantly honing their skills. Languages are constantly improving and good devs have to keep up with that to remain relevent. I work for a company that just hit 300 people, of which more than 80% are developers – Java, .Net, PHP, etc. The higher level devs, the seniors and leads, are always working on something, always looking at the new technologies, checking out the advancements in their languages and in others to see how they might be applied to their own projects in a beneficial way.

You post makes no sense and you actually says the same I said… (and I already programmed my first video game and working as a game designer for my second one though I don’t need to give you any info about, just letting you know im not randomly saying this) if he has to do all that, then he should not be the one proposing changes. The game designer should be the one behind the changes, not him. I don’t even know if he is the one who proposed it but in any case, devs to code, designer to design… and this game has very good devs but very bad designers.

I think part of the disconnect here is the terms “developer” “designer” and “programmer”.

While the devs (developers) do work on the programming aspect, a designated programmer (i.e. Branden Gee) wouldn’t have much, if any, input into the design, but would specialize on one aspect of the game (i.e jumping/dodging mechanics, aggro distance from mobs, event spawn timers and areas, etc.) and the designers would be the ones who come up with the ideas.

Maybe I should have linked the source at the beginning. Basically he was responding to a portion of the game (pvp) that was not in his area of expertise. As a gameplay programer, that could mean a number of things, and is probably specialized in say weapon animations and effects (just throwing out something random) and not pvp UI or mechanics.

Either way my point is, that the devs DO play, and also have company mandatory time set aside to play.

Actually, there are more ways fairly reliable ways to get cloth (as much as RNG can be considered “reliable”) Much of my cloth I gathered was not due to slavaging. Bags, salvagable cloth item (i.e worn garment, rag, etc.) map completion actually gives quite a bit, and karma can be used to get cloth

Eitherway, as stated before, we don’t know if this applies to level 80, or to armor drops. The blog specifially talks about weapons, and leveling. Of course we can infer that it will effect armor, but until we get a clear answer, or see it in action, everything is a knee jerk reaction and pure speculation.

Please enlighten me on the karma way of getting cloth… btw, I have 7 lvl 80s… and still think its a horrible idea. Conceptually, it shows their lack of knowledge on the game and its truly concerning.

But this would imply that the devs dont ever play the game. But we know that they do in fact play, as seen by the multiple “unfair banning/abuse of power” threads. Also

After thinking about this I feel like many of you think that every dev should have complete understanding of every aspect of this game. And my gut reaction is to say that it is unreasonable to expect that from us, after all Guild Wars 2 is a huge game, and even now I am still discovering new things in it. And whether or not it is reasonable to expect that, it is not that I don’t have complete understanding due to a lack of trying. I mean sure I only spend about 20 hours a week on my own time playing Guild Wars 2, this does not include the time that ArenaNet sets aside for all of their employees to play the game, and sometimes it can be hard to get through jumping puzzles, fractals, WvW, activities, sPvP, dungeons, tPvP, living story, Hot-Joins, crafting, guild missions, ect with only a finite amount of time each week to play. I could probably cut more time out of playing other games, enjoying my hobbies, working to improve my programming ability, trying to maintain friendships and spending time with family to play more Guild Wars, but right now that isn’t something I am willing to do. So instead I’m just going to understand that some players are going to see problems that I don’t. And ask them for as much information I can so that the problem can be identified and fixed. And I appreciate that our players understand this as well and are willing to bring these problems up in a polite and respectful manner.

Buy cloth items with karma, throw them in mystic forge, salvage results. Boring and tedious.

yup. Its is boring and tedious, but generates a decent amount of cloth.I found crab grabbing gloves to be the best for linen. They are cheap.

This is a quit-worthy disaster if it’s not limited to pre-80s.

over-dramatize much? According to these forums, everything is a quit-worthy disaster. If they DIDN’T make this change someone would call it a quit-worthy disaster.

It’s really not that big of a deal.

Look at it this way, A guardian has less of a chance of getting silk…but you have MORE of a chance of getting DUSK!

Plus, if this is like any of their other drop changes (remember the patch that stated “significantly increased drop rates of ascended armor boxes in FOTM”)…then you won’t notice the change at all.

People panic and threaten to quit if an ANET employee stubs their toe around here.

“The said “Ouch.” you know what that means….their killing off all the warriors in the game and converting them to necros."
"no, you fool, everyone knows that “OUCH” stands for “Operates Under Cattle Hooves” so everyone is going to be turned into a cow."
“If that happens I’m going to quit.”
“I’m quitting also until a dev comes on here and explains what exactly they meant by “Ouch.”
“DEV’s!! You never talk to us…why won’t you explain this new “Ouch.” to us!

Relax folks, your world will not end.

I think you just won the internet. I laughed WAY too hard at this. Thank you.

There’s one such PS story armor for each class type, light armors is hideous, so no one cares but wardrobe competitionists, I’m not sure what heavy armor’s PS exclusive set it, I’ve never really leveled a heavy character.

The Heavy is called Barbaric, but you can also craft it.

And it’s kind of ugly IMO

Wait a minute… does ANet still consider they have “drops” on their mobs? I thought it was perfectly clear already that there are no “drops” in GW2 and everything that falls from mobs are salvage material

I mean,… are they really aware of what’s going on in GW2? do they know that to craft heavy you need light? maybe this idea was tossed out by a new hired and approved by a senior who never logged into the game… its the only reasonable explanation

Umm…I crafted a full set of ascended heavy without ever touching light or medium. In fact, I don’t have any levels in medium or light.

World first not to craft damask silk and get a full set of heavy armor then… unless we play different games, I needed tonz of light armor materials to craft my heavy. Not only silk but all kind of cloth

Damask silk can be crafted via heavy armorsmith. The cloth materials are not limited to light armorsmithing (tailoring), but can be made with all the armorsmithing trades (light, medium, and heavy)

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armorsmith
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Leatherworker
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tailor

Yes there is some overlap, but one is not dependant on the other trades.

I think you don’t get it…. without salvaging light armor, there is no other way (other than bags which is unreliable) to get cloth materials. Get it? You can’t craft a heavy armor without salvaging light armor. Cloth doesn’t grow on trees and can’t be gathered and it would be a terrible mistake to limit this to the TP.

Actually, there are more ways fairly reliable ways to get cloth (as much as RNG can be considered “reliable”) Much of my cloth I gathered was not due to slavaging. I don’t understand. As a guardian, you have just as much chance of getting silk (or any other mat) as any other profession. You don’t need to level an alt to get what you need for crafting. Silk is used across all professions, so you wouldn’t need to have a light or medium armor character to get silk.

Umm, no it won’t. Decomposing heavy armor does not give silk, that is what the OP will primarily be getting as a Guardian…

Ok. Didn’t see the new blog. All caught up now.

But my initial thoughts on the matter, still don’t lead to believe that it will be a major issue. There are still plently of other ways to get silk, and other cloth, other than slavaging. Plus you’ll still be getting light/medium armor drops to salvage, just not as much as before.

Thank you for reading all the way through

Crafting "Backpacks"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So they don’t do anything? just look pretty? Or do they allow for portable crafting stations to be dropped wherever you may be?

The portable crafting station thing is an over the top rumor. Common sense says that them functioning like that would be too much utility, because portable crafting station also functions as a portable bank (unless they function differently to normal crafting stations in this regard). Look at how much permanent bank access costs on TP, it would absolutely destroy the value of these items.

But portable crafting stations DO exist. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Consortium_Mobile_Crafting_Station
But that doesn’t mean they need to have bank access. Collection access yes, bank, not so much. But I don’t see the need for a backpack unless it offers an extra 20 slot storage space or something. I never did go for the cosmetic and shiney things in the gem store.
