hi Phabby,
its all good, the boys are playing lego around mea nd we are chatting. Thanks for your concern though.
I think i might take the day off tomorrow though (-:

Yeah im with phabby on this one. Go be with your family. Much more important. If anyone who wants to say differently, well they can go take a long walk off pier 61. But we do greatly appreciate your time here with us. If its not too much to ask, I would greatly appreciate your look into this thread? Would love to hear your thoughts…if any. Thanks! !

Hi,
I was looking at this thread last night. Will catch up now.
Initial thoughts are it is cool.

Thanks you rock! !!!

Awww sad. Now who will be my arch nemesis?
I feel you though. As much as I love this game, it too being the first MMO I spent any amount of time in, I do feel a bit disenchanted with it. More so recently. Maybe I am just bored, and looking for thr next big thing. But thats the nautre of video games. Ypu play them forever, and then you get bored until the next one comes out. Maybe im just getting older. I dont know.
In any event, too bad I didnt get much of a chance to run with you more in game. Good luck in your next venture.
I started playing with sweetFX last night and didnt really notice much of a change at all. Maybe I was doing something wrong. I’ll have to play with it some more.
Have you tried the SweetFX Guild Wars 2 Dragons Reborn Settings that Otaur was using? All I did was load the same preset and it worked for me.
I didn’t. Where do I find it?
Not terrible ideas. But there are some more commander changes being implemented with the feature pack we know nothing about yet. It would be better to wait and see whats coming first.
About the cost of gems. This has been covered many times. The reason isnt inflation. The gold to gems, and gem to gold ratio is dependent upon players only. Anet has no control over this. The more people spend gold to get gems the price increases. The more people buy gems and convert to gold, the price decreases. Back in may of 2013, 2 gold was a lot because not everyone was farming dungeons, or playing the TP. We were still discovering the world and having fun. Not grinding for gold. But more people are going to use gold to convert to gems to buy those gem store items they want now, because we’ve learned how best to get gold. Those who do spend cash for gems are not converting them to gold, but rather using them solely in the gem store. The system is fine and is working as intended.
Ascended items being accout bound was also discussed. Removing that and making them sellable was also discussed and confirmed by the games economist, John Smith, as being a terrible idea, and would cause more problems than its worth.
When it comes to how things are implemented in the game, the economy is considered very carefully. Almost everything is run by John Smith and economic ramifications are throughly discussed and considered. Those things we have now were done in such a way as to have the least negative impact on the economy.
I started playing with sweetFX last night and didnt really notice much of a change at all. Maybe I was doing something wrong. I’ll have to play with it some more.
Both posts say basically the same thing, but the tone is very different. Those who also love the game, see the first type of post and take it as an attack on something they also invested time and energy in and love and feel a need to defend it. And in defending it can be just as harsh as those who are attacking.
Well you see here’s the trouble. Some of us received the same reaction from the same defenders some of which are on this very thread, when we started posting in the suggestions and class forums 2 months after launch. We were just like you are now, considerate, quiet, less than passionate, but after being attacked so many times by these defenders (who really have nothing to defend because facts are facts and it’s gone far far beyond their excuse of “the game is new”) we get tired of it. It’s so bad that sometimes we wonder if these people work for the company, we really do because some of the things they say in their posts are nothing like what normal people with clear understanding of how the game works (or in this sense doesn’t work) would say after experiencing the same exact things by playing the game normally. Like people who’ve played the title know what it’s like in combat in the open world as someone with condition build, or they know what it’s like to not be able to farm Tier 6 materials properly to raise above the threshold in crafting on the way to 500. But these same people will defend the game blindly, defend an economy that does not work, and prevent those of us who are passionate about the game being right, the game being what we paid for, from being heard without confusing the issue at hand.
So you’ll forgive us if we get tired of the same old from people who might as well be hired by marketing if they aren’t already.
Yeah I can get that. After trying for so long, it becomes very disheartening to feel that no one cares or is listening. However as one who plays and understands how the game works I myself am not blindy defending it. Do I feel that condition builds could use a rework? Definetly yes, I play a condition build. But do I feel it so broken that I need to rant about it? No. Do I understand that farming T6 can be a long and tedious endeavor? Oh god yes. Been farming them for my legendary. But I dont feel that the drop rate, or the methods to be able to get them are broken. The TP prices for them? daunting yes, but not a sign of inflation. These items are becoming much higher in demand, yet farmers and supply are not.
I guess its up to the individual to take it upon themselves to present their case in such a manner without giving in to the trolls and those seeking a reaction. A point is much better recieved when it is delivered in a way that is passionate, yet calm and clear. Ive been a public speaker for several years, and people are more likely to listen and act when a message is delivered quietly and soberly, yet passionate, than a hyped up message filled with bitterness and anger.
One thing people keep forget, its been touched upon, is that ANET has no control over the exchange rates. They set it at the beginning and let it run its course. If you buy gems with coins, the price for gems increases, if you buy gems with cash and convert to gold, the gem price decreases. The disparity arises when more people buy gems with gold, than convert to gold. The only way to fix it would be to buy gems with cash, and convert to gold, but that would require almost the entire player base to do this and not use gold to get gems for awhile.
So i was thinking maybe we could have a CDI next week about the logistics (Methods, format, etc etc) of better communication on both sides?
thoughts?
Chris
People seem to be of the opinion that CDIs never really did what they were supposed to do. If your solution to the communication problems (including CDIs) is to have a CDI on it, then you’re pretty much shooting yourself in the foot.
Forget the format for this one, and try just talking. Yes, you’ll get a lot of static and noise, but you get that in a CDI, too. And don’t talk about just the big game stuff. You’re human, talk like it. Act like it. You guys come across as faces and names without any souls or humor. Relax a little. You’ll get more understanding as a person than as a job title and a name.
I agree. Although having a formal setting to discuss stuff is great, an informal one would be just as productive, if not more so, than a formal setting.
(Shameless plug) I started an " improvised CDI thread" for that purpose. A place where we can communicate with you and you us, in a setting much more relaxed about a variety of topics without the QQ responses and frustration. Please at least check it out. I feel it would be great for everyone in that environment. Thanks!
If the devs have 1 thing they could add/change to make it their own personal ideal game, what would that be? I know you are all very proud, and rightly so, about whats been done so far but working with others sometimes means you have to lay aside features that you would really like to have.
I’m not trying to compare devs or imply one is better than the other, but I think what John is doing in the economy thread is kind of what people are asking more of. A loose Q&A with their respective area devs where they get a chance to ask questions, get answers and make jokes at each others expense.
I’ve seen other devs here do it in other threads but the economy thread seems to be the longest lasting one of it’s kind. Its not a perfect thread and not every question is answered, but it is a fun thread and it’s provided some great interaction. Personally, I think economics is a pain and uninteresting, but I’m enjoying the thread and reading what he’s saying.
So maybe if some of the senior devs are so inclined they could start similar threads for their own areas?
Edit: Also, this thread where you’re giving us a back and forth discussion is also a good example.
Respectfully disagree. The BLTC forum from what I’ve seen is just one big, self-congratulatory conversation, where people who have differing views from the majority are shot down with snarky, condescending remarks from the economist, which are then fervently echoed by his cronies. What follows then is comments such as “John for PRESIDENT” and “I love it when he does that!”. Very productive? I think not.
Please do not emulate that style tyvm.
While I agree that does happen from time to time, much of that times that it does happen is when people who have differing views from the majority are coming in and basically telling all of us, and JS, that we have no idea what we are talking about. There are some very active people in those threads that have a very good grasp of whats going on, and JS acknowledges that and lets the community answer instead of repeating himself.
The “condescending” remarks come after we’ve tried to reason with the person as to why the economy is not hyper inflated, or whatever, but that person refuses to try to learn, and continues to insist that they are right and everyone else is a sheep.
0There was a thread awhile back about precurser prices and how the drop rate needed to be vastly increased. It started out well, with the pros and cons, with it being sjown that the cons outweight the pros in the end. But the OP continually insisted that his way was the only way, despite JS carefully explaining why it wouldn’t be a good idea. The OP was becoming combative and snarky, and insulting to both the community and JS. Could it been handled differently? Of course. But over all, that community remains polite and respectful, and thats why JS is far more active. People have questions and get answers. If they are going to be kittens about it and instead just argue to argue, then more than likely they will be treated the same.
@ipan;
What you’re requesting is essentially Skyrim but with the possibility with playing with other players.
That’s about it, in a nutshell.
It’s ironic you should mention Skyrim, because I’ve been thinking of picking that up soon.
But yeah, Skyrim in an MMO format – that is, the ability to play with other people.
Sure.
Here’s the problem. Let’s say the upcoming feature pack removes all grind. We can use the repetive action of three or more times as the definition as this is consistent with what those against grind claim that grind is.
Drop rates would dramatically increase. Since farming is grinding, players would not have problems getting everything they need in a timely fashion. Crafting materials would be easy to come by, all armor sets would be easy to get, everyone could have the legendary weapon(s) that they crave, and so on. Everything in the game is within their grasp with little to no effort required on their part.
The economy would crash as players would have zero need for the TP. With such easy access to items, what need would players have to go to the TP or for other players to list their items on the TP? Everything not needed would be be vendored or trashed. Gold would have zero value. What reason is there for gold if everything is easily obtainable?
All gem store items would have to be purchased with cash. Converting gold would no longer be an issue as players would have so much that the rates would be incredibly high. There’s nothing to prevent inflation anymore but then that isn’t an issue as you don’t need gold.
Players now have nothing to work towards in the game. All that they have left is the content such as WvW, PvP, and PvE. Unfortunately, this gets stale eventually. Players can only do dungeons existing campaigns for so long before they’re bored. Most likely no more than a few times.
Player activity takes a dive as a result. With nothing to do in the game, they move on to other things. Group content becomes increasingly difficult to do because of the lack of players. This is then scaled down to be doable by yourself. Some may or may not remain challenging. There are also no champ trains, Orr trains, EotM trains, and so on. What reason is there for them to exist if you don’t need to grind for your rewards that you get from them? Player interaction also becomes less frequent.
ArenaNet eventually consolidates servers as there’s no longer enough players to justify a large number of servers. They also start charging for all additional content as the lack of players has reduced the in one that they receive from gem store transactions. There will likely be less frequent content updates as they may not receive enough purchases to warrant keep all if their existing staff.
The game devolves into a single player game where players have easy access to everything and can experience everything within a month of playing. After that the game is discarded like so many other console games and PC games. How many of you continued to play Ocarina of Time after you got everything in the game and beat it? Did you continue to roam around for hours on end? Likely not.
With this, the MMO genre dies because people did not want nor understood what role grind played.
I am Pdavis, and I approve this post.
It is sad, I think maybe George Lucas works for anet.
But if George Lucas worked for Anet, shouldn’t have it been sold to Disney by now?
Farmers don’t lower prices long term, they raise them because of inflation. Just look at the prices in the past year. I’m all for restricting spam farming. GJ on stopping this!
And here you are wrong (or at least partially wrong). Inflation is caused by two things:
1. introducing more gold to economy than it’s drained from it. Or, to be more precise, increasing gold:goods ratio (when the amount of gold increases compared to the amount of buyable goods, the value of gold goes down).
2. increasing wealth disparity (even if the amount of gold in the whole community doesn’t change that much, inflation on a subgroup of goods can happen if the wealth of the group most likely to buy those goods goes up).ad.1: Farmers mostly supply mats and items. Direct gold creation from those activities is not that high compared to other sources. Selling farmed goods on market even destroys gold, due to the 15% tax. So, farmers actually decrease gold:goods ratio, which acts against inflation.
ad.2: farmers are a bit guilty of increasing wealth disparity. On the other hand, they are far more likely to be selling commong goods than buying them. If they are helping inflation along, it’s only on the luxury items market (rare skins, precursors, legendaries).
Though, in the end most of their wealth will also end in the hands of the real money elite of this game – TP barons. In general, if you want to search for real sources of inflation, look at activities that create gold directly, not at those that bring wealth mostly in the form of marketable goods.
Agreed. However I feel I must point out that inflation really isn’t an issue. People point out luxury items (precursors, legendaries, rare skins) as a sign of inflation. But what is really happening is that these items, and others that are rising in price, are becoming more and more in demand, and farmers are not as abundant, so the supply is not increasing at the same rate of demand. (With the exception of the luxury items, as the supply is very limited, and increases slightly, yet the demand is much greater than 1 year ago.) If inflation were the case, then we would see an increase in ALL crafting mats, and other items, prices. But in the case of Elder Wood logs, the price has dropped almost 50c in the last month as supply is far greater then the demand, as more people are farming for Foxfire clusters.
The market moves very quickly and is able to balance itself out quickly as well. John Smith isn’t concerned about inflation, yet is constantly being on the lookout for signs that inflation is happening. But the more people use the TP, instead of farming the more inflation is being held in check as gold is being removed at a very rapid rate, almost as much as it’s being generated through dungeon runs.
I have seen a lot of threads discussing things that people would like to be added or changed about the game. It ranges from making conditions on par with direct damage dealers in group settings to the request for meaningful end game content such as dungeons. However, the replies are always the same. People constantly bash the individual and announce that the game is basically perfect and that nothing needs to be changed. Here is the thing though: If the game added new dungeons or made conditions better, how would that take away from you want in the game?
We have all invested a great amount of time into this game, some more than others. Some people would like to see content more geared toward their tastes. It is not enough to just dismiss them and tell them to go play another game. They have invested their time and money into this game. They are politely letting ANet know what would keep them coming back and spending more money. They are not trying to destroy your experience, they are just trying to work with ANet so that people like them won’t just move on.
I have been playing this game since launch and I am not crazy about Living Story, but I am not saying that they should stop doing that. No one is. Most people who complain about Living Story complain because they see it as a substitute for what they really want out of this game. There is no reason ANet cannot attempt to please both crowds.
Thank you and let me just say I can already see some of the people who replied to your thread are some of the major offenders who pretty much dismisses what you say if you point out something, people don’t come here to complain about the game to troll, we come here because we’re passionate about where it’s going. We come here to help make it into the game we were convinced it would be via the sheer number of prelaunch promises in interviews, and the manifesto. If I didn’t care about this game I would not be here I have so many more pressing things to do right now.
I just don’t get how people can be so oblivious like how can these offenders sit there and say something doesn’t happen when it happens to people like me weekly, or that it’s somehow the players’ fault that loot doesn’t drop like it should, that rewards aren’t there with common activities, that combat is as broken as it is in PVE unless you’re Zerker etc etc. Like what goes through these people’s minds do they get into a car wreck and then deny the other car ever hit them? Do they not pay a bill and then deny that collections will ever come after them? Do they accidentally leave the oven on and then deny that their house will burn down? I just don’t understand, there comes a point when reality comes crashing down even in a game and it’s about to hit the 2 year mark, like how long is too long to wait really and why aren’t these people on board?
Good points. I do undertand the frustration, and why the people come to complain, and give what they call feedback, on a paticular area of the game, and how it needs to be changed. I get that people really do enjoy the game, and want it to prosper and grow even more. However, even with those intentions, much of what is put out under the guise of feedback, and suggestions, comes out as pure venom. People who get tired of the way loot works come on here, not to have a discussion, or to provide feedback, or offer suggestions, but to rant. Typically (not always, but generally) such threads look like this:
“The loot system sucks kitten!! This is bullkitten, I have MF at 250% but still only get blues and greens. Anet just want me to spend money on gems instead of giving better loot!!! Anet sucks, and the devs are stupid and don’t know up from down!! Fix it or I’ll quit!!!”
While the loot system is not perfect and could be updated and revamped, a better response would be something like:
“The current loot system isn’t the greatest. With such a high MF (250%) One would think that you should be getting better loot, instead I am getting blues and greens, which are unusable and vastly inferior to rares, or exotics. Is there a way that this can be addressed? I would suggest maybe instead of having increased “rolls” on the RNG table with a higher MF, maybe have a higher permenet “bonus” as a base line for all rolls. So say rare equipment drops at a “roll” of 1500. At 250% MF, the starting number would be 250, and whatever the “roll” is is added to that. Just an idea. Thanks!"
Both posts say basically the same thing, but the tone is very different. Those who also love the game, see the first type of post and take it as an attack on something they also invested time and energy in and love and feel a need to defend it. And in defending it can be just as harsh as those who are attacking.
How is that possible, there are barely any oozes in this game!
Yeah there are not alot of oozes in the game, but that number could very well be a hint at the number of players we have. But of course some people are killing more oozes than other, but it could be an average of say (making up numbers here) 3 oozes killed per player, which would be about 2,498,693 players just this past month. But that still wouldn’t tell us how many are daily players that killed 3 oozes a day, or if it was each player killing those 3 oozes over the course of the entire month.
Either way its fun to speculate
Stolos: you’re spot on. This encounter was an homage to the courtroom cross-examinations from Ace Attorney. You all probably know pretty well that people at ArenaNet are gamers, too, and this occasionally bleeds into the content we create. For example, the Molten Facility end boss encounter took inspiration from Dark Souls. There are small nods/references sprinkled across the game.
I was not aware of that…But then I never played dark souls so….
So that would mean that the turkey room ACTUALLY means something!!
hmmmmm interesting
We’re you taking damage? If not then thats completely normal. As long as you have a target you can shoot the beam halfway across the map. It just won’t do anything other than giveaway either yours or the enemies position
Tbh there are lots of weird and funky things you can do on clocktower a since its coded very strangely to allow the treb and stuff. For example on thief you can stand directly underneath the point in that tunnel and if you aim your camera up you can shoot cluster bombs onto the point without fear of harm to yourself. I imagine you can do the same with engi grenades, etc.
On d/p for thief, if youre standing on the sides of clocktower you can move the camera and aim your #3skill right at the point so that it teleports you directly into the point.
IIRC I was taking damage…but I could have been mistaken. But as a condi necro going up against a thief and a mesmer, I decided to get out quickly and wasn’t trying to stick around.
Yeah, but the thing is: about a year ago one could buy 100 gems within 1 hour farming dungeons, now he needs to farm 5 times more and who knows how many farming time will be needed to buy 100 gems next year!? This looks to me as if the Gem store was in an inevitable crashing path. I mean: who would farm 50 hours just to buy some 3 black lion keys for example and have a chance to get something totally unworthy?
There MUST be something to deal with this.
So you are saying that the quantity of gems is limited? Because if there is a gem pool and people usually buy more gems than sell them, so the gems will eventually vanish. I wonder what happens when people use real cash to buy gems: Does the gems come from the “pool”, or are they “magically created” to satisfy the buyer’s intent, resulting in an increased total number of gems inside the game?
I can’t find the links right now, but I’ll keep looking. Basically what you are saying is correct. There is a finite (limited) amount of gems, when you buy gems with gold, you take some out, when you buy gems with cash, you put some in. The gem to gold/gold to gem rate is determined by how many people are using gold to convert to gems, and how many people are buying gems with cash and converting to gold. The more people use gold to buy gems, the higher the price, the more people use cash and convert, the lower the price.
Many people like to use “inflation” as a reason that the price is going up, but that simply isnt the case. The reason is people like the cool items, upgrades, etc in the gem store, and don’t want to spend the money. Thats fine, they can do that. Others may want the items and are willing to pay the money. Sweet!! But they are using their gems, and not converting them to gold.
I’ve answered all these questions before, several times. Does anyone have the links for those answers? (Even I don’t want to comb through my entire post history
)
I’m looking for them now :P
(Just an idea, having a functional search option in the post by John Smith, or anyone else, would be awesome and amazing :P)
have you ever heard of any action actually being taken?
I have never seen anyone come on here saying “I just got banned. they say I was rude to some noob in a dungeon? can I get this reversed” (like how that botter did)
everyone always recommends to report these people and support will do something, but I’ve never heard what actually becomes of it. you sure they take action?
I don’t know if they actually do anything, but sending a report and having the possiblity of having an action taken is better than doing nothing.
I am way excited about the new CDIs that are going to be coming soon. I don’t know if you guys already have a plan on whats going to be discussed or not, but I was wondering if it might be possible to get maybe some talking points so that we as a community can begin preparing for those CDIs to be able to present better feedback, instead of off the cuff questions about why we don’t have precurser crafting yet, or what ever is the hot topic now days. This way if we have a heads up, we can present better information. Just an idea. Thanks!!
just came back after a year and I see nothing much changed with A-net’s stance on anything that involves FARMING
call it a bug, call it an exploit, what it REALLY is, is a challenge to A-nets sell gems for gold game core
The same thing happened to a number of farms last year ( one of the more well known ones was south of Pearl Inlet in Southsun cove where groups of people were farming mobs a,long the beach, the after a few topics whining in the forum about people “DARING” to play the game the way they wish (i.e farming for the things they want to buy) it was announced by A-net that there was in fact a “BUG” and mobs were re-spawning too quickly (didn’t seem any quicker than any other mob btw)
So I have been playing a week or so after a year break to see that the same thing is happening all over again, groups of people have found a “farm” that they can co-operate in, some people go care-bear to forums and A-net announce that it is a “unintended game mechanic” and are going to nerf it
When will a-net and the care-bears be happy??? when everyone is wandering around with nothing to do other than funneled content (i.e the boredom of fractals) or being forced to run Zerk Warrior to be able to get a PuG group to do anything?
I thought that things may have changed for the better in the time I have been away, looks like it the same thing just a year later.
Its not about “anti-farming” or about selling gems. It’s about players being jerks to other players. I remember the southsun farm, and I do remember thinking that the mobs did spawn a bit quick, so the spawn rate was increased. But it’s still being farmed today. The blixx farm in still intact, it just had the event respawn increased. So you can’t fail the one event, immediately go do the one, scaled up with champs, then immediatly go fail the first one again, and repeat. Similar to how the old tunnel farm worked. Those events spawned WAY to fast, so you do them really quickly.
Now there were some cases where failing an event would create unintentional consquenses, such as endless quickly spawning mobs, and failing these intentionally was rightfully considered an exploit/bug.
Anet doesn’t mind farmers, in fact farmers are good for the economy, and is a legitimate playstyle. I myself am a farmer. But after a good farming spot is discovered and made widely known (events or otherwise), the more people there are, the more people will begin to get rude with each other. Some because they just want to do the event, and others who want to farm it. Thus, when people come to the forums to complain about how bad of an experience they are having with percieved griefers, trolls, and exploiters, Anet needs to step in and try to fix the farm so it can still be farmed, but minimize the causes of the complaints. Just like they did for southsun, and just like they did here.
So I was playing hotjoin PvP with my necro (yes I know this is the mesmer thread) and we were in the level with the catapults. (forgot the name) I was running through the tunnel in the middle, under the point there and was being attacked by a mesmer with a GS who was standing on the point!!!The laser beam/lightning arc animation was was coming straight down through the celing. I am pretty sure this is a bug, but wasn’t sure if its been reported, or if was someone using a wallhax, as was suggested by my guildies. Any thoughts?
Thats pretty cool. I might need to check it out, however I kinda like the before shots :P
I run on low with native settings for models and generally dont have any issues, although I can bump up to medium settings, but it gets a bit laggy in higher populated areas.
Voice for jellyfish? Alan Rickman of course!!
Also it seems a jellyfish tonic would be really cool. Please!?
I believe this was address in the support forums…
I don’t think it’s an issue of being harder/different to code, but rather an issue of Anets goals and long term plans. However, for them being able to produce expansions (or expansion like content) for GW1 (at least in my opinion) was “easier” because they didn’t have to worry about how it would handle with hundreds of players at the same time, how the servers interact with the map, how the quests work when you have a bunch of people doing them, reward distribution, etc. In GW1, at most you would have what? 5 players max? Which effects how things are coded, how much time you need to spend testing, and how it is deployed.
At least thats how I see it…I could very well be wrong though.
GO SBI!!!
Been a part of this server for most of my 2 years playing. One of the coolest guilds ever calls SBI home (Shout out to Cat Biscuits!!). As far as WvW is concerned, we may not be top ranked (yet!) but there is ALWAYS people willing to fight, defend, and reap the glory that awaits in WvW. One thing I love about it is that it is highly organized. Clear orders, and objectives are laid out. Yes there are even groups who focus solely on defending instead of capping one thing only to go back and have to recap it 20 mins later.

*GW1 wasn’t a MMo, so the campaigns could be created as quickly as they were, we have to keep that in mind.
I’m sorry, but GW1 was indeed an MMO, if only a lobby-based one. There were multiple players hanging out in specific cities/missions to adventure in an instanced land. Just because it’s not a permanent one as GW2 is or many other MMOs does not make it any less of an MMO.
I will agree that this change makes it far harder to create expansions like before. Needing to accommodate for many more players, rather than just 8 outside of towns, including all the events and monsters and story to tie it all together, means creating any new zone takes far longer than it did before. I, too, would like to see an expansion, but I suppose these bite-sized Living World segments are far better than months and months of silence.
One thing I would like is that the added maps offered map completion, even if it was separate from map completion. Even just a running tally to find the points of interest, waypoints and skill points would be appreciated. Now, for a map like Dry Top that was slowly revealing itself, I can be patient, but Southsun Cove could certainly list its points.
While I can see the desire for an expansion, I must agree with Valmir. GW1 was NOT an MMO (http://www.guildwars.com/products/guildwars/features/default.php) Yes it does contain some elements of an MMO it is an online role playing game. The difference being one is a massivly multiplayer online role playing game while the latter is an online role playing game which allows for doing content stricly in a solo single player environment. An MMO doesn’t allow for that, because if you want to solo roam and do stuff, you still are interacting with the world with hundreds/thousands of other players at the same time.
you’ll shoot your eye out, Kid!
Awww….
Are there still Mystic Forge Recipes/items that havent been discovered yet that are not recipe sheets for food feasts/pots/trays or recipe sheets for satchels/boxes of armor?
Does Zommoros still have some secrets up his djinny sleeve?
Yes.
Is it Mounts?
It’s the Christmas present you always wanted, but never received.
A Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time!?
I wouldn’t call it an exploit. But it is stupid and cheap. I was passing through the other night, and got at least 5 group invites, and prompty rejected them all. I don’t mind farming, kind of enjoy it really, but purposly failing events to get a champ is just lame. But hey, if thats how you want to play it….
It would be cheaper, and easier, to buy a second copy of the game, and use that for a NA server copy, and the other for an EU server. Right now with 50% off its almost as much as buying a server tranfer. That way you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
@OP
The main problem is that although we all love the game, there are many ideas of what would “improve” the game. Things like mounts and dueling are hot topics. Yet the majority of people cannot agree on those things being an improvement to the game at all. So do those who disagree with mounts and/or duels, compromise and advocate for their implementaion? Or do those who are for it compromise and agree that they shouldn’t? Where do you draw the line?
To quote Satoshi Taijiri (creator of Pokemon): “You all think you have great ideas for the Pokemon games, but if I actually listened to all of you and we combined all of your ideas into a game, it would be an unplayable monstrosity. You want a game with all the regions, yet only the first generation Pokemons, and yet all the legendary ones and such silly things.”
So while we may try to come to a middle ground, and present a “unified front” (so to speak) on certain issues, would these things in fact be good for the game overall? Or would it create an “unplayable monstrosity”? We can give ideas, and suggestions, but it’s up to Anet to filter though the crap and decide whether or not it would be a good idea. A good example of that happening is with the upcoming changes to commander tags and colors. Many people came together and brought up how such a terrible idea it was, Anet listened and had people work overtime through their weekend to fix it. Now even in that there were those who said it was fine, and that people were overreacting, and 300g per color was a good idea and should stay that way.
Lets call this an open letter to Anet concerning the state of the game.
Guild Wars 2 is nearly 2 years old and people are more and more questioning where the content has gone. Because let’s face it, Living Story is like filling a bucket with a few drops at a time.
And let’s not forget that alot of people would be willing to pay 40 euros for a full expansion that we had during Guild Wars 1 which enjoyed a long lifespan with their vast expansions that added tons of new stuff and that is what players want the most, a fresh breeze that calls out for exploration of tons of new content. Each Living Story update is finished within an hour (unless u count in the finding of every coin in Dry Top).
So let’s face it, Living Story is fun for kicks but nothing beats a large expansion pack and i truly hope you face it fast before the game dies.
We don’t NEED an expansion but we want one, what we need is arenanet to add things we’ve been asking for and do it faster than how they’re releasing things now. If we gotta pay in order to get those things, im fine with that. We just want the things we ask for instead of useless kitten we didnt ask for.
What type of things that are coming out in the feature pack that are not what the community has asked for? From what I can tell, adding QoL stuff for WvW (i.e. account bound and colored tags) armor sets exclusive to PvP, profession balance features, warrior nerfs, etc. are all things that have been asked for for quite awhile now. Unless you are refering to gem store items? Weapon and armor skins are extremely popular, and many people have asked for them. They may not be exactly what they had in mind, but they are getting added because of requests for them. Just curious as to what useless things you are refering to?
While it is recommended not to start running to till you hit 80, I run dungeon all the time, matter of fact it’s my preferred way of leveling. Best thing i can say is start on story mode, run it a few times so you can get some of the mechanics of the game down. Most people on the server that i’m on say in the lfg post what they are looking for, everyone once in a while you will find a group that just doesn’t care if it’s all lvl 80’s or not. Just fyi my highest lvl char is lvl 77. I do have a question though for anyone who would like to answer, what lvl is recommended to start running fractals, can’t find a definitive answer?
Recommended level for fractals is level 80. Although you are scaled up to level 80, you won’t have access to a full set of traits and level 80 armor. Thus being a bit weaker than a level 80 would. However, at level 77 you shouldn’t have too many issues, but it will be a bit more difficult. Also you won’t be able to use any of the ascended equipment you may happen to find until you are level 80.
I’ve been thinking about defiant stance vs HS as well for PvP. Typically I use HS for everything. Why? Because it’s awesome and amazing. But I’ve noticed in PvP especially in +2v1 situations I tend to get burned down pretty quickly, especially if they can get an immobilize off. While DS doesn’t have the passive regen, I would think that using DS when going into a situation where I would be outnumbered would be better, as I can just go Leroy Jenkins into the frey, pop DS, and kill all the things. I understand that this would be more situational, but in PvP where you can be outnumbered more often then not, would this be a better option then HS?
I sent in a ticket, it got sent up to a GM, and it was refused saying that the plans for the future are unclear.
Still total kittening bullkitten anet.
I can see why they did that though. If they gave out refunds for the coin and then released SAB everyone would be crying that they said it wasn’t going to be released so now they have to buy another coin, even though we got a refund. Now if they were indeed NEVER going to release SAB again, then a refund would be in order, and probably announced. But as it is, giving refunds now, based on a vague comment in an interview, with nothing offically announced concerning the matter, it doesnt make any kind of sense to issue refunds.
I would think that even an announcement of such a thing would cause MANY people to rush out and buy up as much T6, Lodestones and whatever else may be thought to be used in such a venture.
My question is would the economy be able to handle such a thing? Would prices climb dramatically for a short period and then stablize? or just spiral upwards out of control?
Rule of thumb of ‘buy on the rumor sell on the news’ should hold, assuming the design isn’t a massive faucet. People will buy up the things you mentioned like crazy on the announcement of precursor crafting, to sell when it actually goes live…and then, on release, they’ll find that the price was bid up by speculators and there are far fewer real customers for those items.
So you’d see them shoot up on the announcement, crash on release, with many of the speculators taking a bath. Yes, the market can handle that just fine.
Aaah gotcha. That makes sense.
@ Branden Gee
Thank you for taking time to respond and look into this. Although this question may be abit off topic., but I am curious. You said that Anet sets aside time for you to play the game. Is this time, say an hour or so, included in your regular work schedule? or on your own time, but compensated by the company? Is it mandatory? or optional?
I’m just interested. Its nice to hear that the devs actually do spend time in game and can understand some of what the players are refering to and experiencing.
I was referring to the cost of the materials that would be used in crafting the precursor not the the ones for the gifts of whatever. I assumed pdavis was referring to the same. Even if that is not the case it would be pretty much impossible to have none of the other materials while collecting materials for the time gated things. That is unless the ingredients list overlap which would be extremely disappointing.
I would also expect some people to give up part way.
Yeah I was speaking about the supply shock that having all those new precursors would pose to the rest of the legendary crafting process.
They’d have to either boost T6 drop rates or nerf precursor acquisition outside of crafting in order to prevent a massive price spike once the precursor crafting gate expired.
I was speaking to both the cost of the mats as well as the supply shock. Presumably one should see an increase of prices. However, if they can anticipate such things, I’m sure that T6 supply would be increased (i.e. inceased drop rates) to help stable out the prices so they don’t go crazy, as well as remove gaining a precurser, if not dramatically lower the drop rate outside of crafting to avoid flooding the market with precursers.
After seeing so many dueling threads, I still don’t understand WHY people want open world dueling. It’s always the same arguments: “Its fun”, “I can test my PvE build”, “PvP custom arenas aren’t convient for dueling”, “Its training for PvP”. My guess is that many of these who want open world dueling are coming from other games that have it, and while they enjoyed it, feel that GW2 should include it so they don’t have to go back to “X” game that had it.
I think one of the great things about GW2 is that it’s not trying to be like other MMOs. Thats a major reason why we don’t have things like mounts, open world dueling, player to player trading, etc. Many MMOs have been there done that. To the point where such things are expected to be in any new MMO, or added to any MMO that doesn’t have them. Trying to take away from what makes GW2 such a great game and turn it into your average run of the mill MMO, IMO, will kill the game faster than anything Anet can do.
I understand that such things are enjoyed by many, but put simply, this game didn’t add them at launch, even though they could be considered an “industry standard”, for a reason. Could they add them at any time? sure. But such things are not where Anet is taking the game. They decided to focus on the LS, which is an awesome and great device they are doing. I do not know of any other MMO that has anything remotely like it. It keeps players playing, and draws in new players. Adding in dueling/mounts/player trading/whatever will be taking a step backward. It would be seen as selling out and lose much of what makes GW2 awesome and amazing.
Firstly guild wars 2 is just like any other mmorpg, it has weapons, armor, loot, bosses, dungeons, pvp, world bosses etc. You’re just cherry picking which completely removes the argument of Gw2 not copying other MMORPGS. If Gw2 was this “perfect” game that you’re making it out to be in this post the forums wouldn’t have such complaints in the general forum section. A step backwards is having the attitude of ignorance, which is what you are showing by expressing dueling/mounts/playertrading is a step backwards because they are not your taste.
First the weapons/armor/loot etc. is not limited to MMOPRGs, but native to RPGs of all types. Second, I never said, nor implied that this game was perfect. Is it a great game? yes. Does it have issues? yes. But having issues does not take away from being a great game. And finally, as far as adding in what nearly every other MMO has would be taking a step backward because GW2 is trying to move forward, and do things that MMOs generally don’t do. It’s not ignorance. In the process of forward thinking, adding, or doing things, that everyone else has done is a step backward. If you are trying to be different, then doing whats been done before is not progress. Thats how ALL progress is made. It’s taking convential wisdom, and saying “lets try it another way, instead of doing it the same way as everyone else.” Of course mistakes and setbacks will happen. But if you stop trying to move forward then you are moving backward.
It is not hard to ignore someone, people need to relax and remember its a game and let people have fun. Ignore those who troll. Simple.
Misquote? I think you were trying to respond to the post above mine. Or you were implying that you were trolling me…either way this response doesn’t make much sense…

I’d just though it would be a cool idea, but I see the point you make. Although if people really were interested in learning their character they wouldn’t just EoTM for the levels. Again, after doing it 3 times you kind of just want to be at level 80 without the fuss, and then go learn your character’s class in PvP. Even if it isn’t the build, more so the playstyle of the class.
EotM leveling is probably why professions like ranger get a bad rep. And why there is so much so called “elitism” especially in dungeon. But yeah I wouldn’t mind an instant level mechanic, but I know that it would be more of an issue than anything. Unless we can figure out a way, as suggested, to speed up the process without sacrificing learning the professions mechanics.
Is it? Is randomly spamming Point Blank Shot actually a good thing in EotM?
What I mean is that anyone can level quickly in EotM without much effort in a zerg. So whether its new players thinking that they need to be level 80 ASAP in order to do anything in the game, or someone trying to level an alt quickly, they don’t always take the time to learn to play the profession properly. But it’s not limited to rangers of course, I just used them because they seemed to be the most hated profession if not played correctly (of course correctly being subjective as well).
My point is speed leveling can cause people to skip learning their profession, pick a random build from the forums, without fully understanding how it works they way it does, and why certain things are used in that build, and be more of a burden than anything else. As an example I pugged AC P1 last night with 2 lvl 80 eles. They weren’t familiar with the dungeon, that was fine, not everyone always does dungeons. But they didn’t understand how to stack might, they didn’t switch attunements, one of them didn’t even know about Ice Bow. It’s almost as if they sped through leveling just to get to 80 without really learning their profession and how to use it.

I am by no means what is considered a “good” player. But even with my “sub optimal” build I was able to do it and only died twice. Granted it was trying to face tank everything so that didnt help. Was it a bit of a challenge? Yeah, but not to the point where I died so many times I was naked, or felt it was impossible. Taking a second look at your build, or even playstyle would go a long way to help you discover what went wrong and how to correct it.
I just cant really like the warrior with bow idea.it feels so wrong lol…
Not that it isnt good.. but it kinda feels weird for me and i dnt like playing it.. i have a thief and a ranger for when i wanna use bows.. but that dual axe tip seems interesting
The guide also is very useful…thabks for sharing that..
Will try aome of those and see which fits better.dont get me wrong… Hammer is nice too…but more dmg is always good hehe
I can get what you mean about longbows and warriors. The reason I use that is for some extra might with LB f1 and #3 for a blast combo. Of course it works just as well if you have someone who can lay down fire fields, but if not, you have your own. Otherwise I use rifle.
I haven’t seen that. However there has been a few issues with having stuff waiting in the TP and the story journal. Also I’ve seen its been said having unopened mail can also cause some issues. If non of these are the case check out the bug forums. Maybe you can get more help there. Good luck!
There has been extremely few dungeon changes for two years: so a large percentage of people just want to do their daily dungeon runs as fast as possible and get them over with. Best keep that in mind when looking for a group.
Also as a first timer, be sure to start your own group, and specifialy say that you are new. You’ll find much more forgiving and helpful players that way. Also check with your guild for their resident dungeon mentor and go that route rather that using the LFG tool.
