Broken friends/follower/blocked system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: penelopehannibal.8947

penelopehannibal.8947

Pop up to accept a friend request is not at all extreme, I’d love to know when someone wants to be my friend instantly, instead of checking my follower list 3 days later and thinking “who is this person again?” cause it happened multiple times already.

Maybe you personally never had to deal with annoying people on your follower list, but that doesn’t mean that others didn’t and that it’s “nothing to do with stalking”.
I had my fair share of weirdos that I wanted nothing to do with, but guess what, even after blocking them they still found a way to contact me cause they “followed” me from a friends account and kept their eye on me like that, eventually messaging me, so I blocked that other account as well. Luckily they took a hint, but some people just don’t.

That’s what this is about, if this was a Carebear world where everyone wants to be friends and hold hands, I wouldn’t have issues with it, but some people DO have bad intentions, and do harass people.

You’re lucky that you never had to deal with it, but I’m not making up a problem because I’m bored, it IS a problem, I experienced it first hand and so have many others.

I’m not saying the pop up itself is extreme. What I am saying is extreme is there being a need for two polar opposites and nothing in-between. As a made up example – I just help someone who is a stranger by showing them how to get to a vista. They then add me as a friend. Your suggestion is either ‘Add as a friend also?’ or ‘Block and delete them?’ – this is a bit extreme and there is no need for it. 99% of people in Guild Wars 2 will add someone due to social interaction, roleplay, being in a guild or simply for showing them a vista or providing a portal at a jumping puzzle.

The other 1% will be idiots, weirdos and possibly gold sellers. There’s a second solution for these, which is the block feature already in place. Like I said, if you get a wierdo, block them, don’t have a ‘Add or Block’ for everyone, because there is no need. The block part is what needs improving, I agree. But to have a block on randoms who add you for or out of kindness is not necessary. If you don’t like people following you, that’s your prerogative, block them. But to take away the choice from other players who might want to have a state of in-between and have only one or the other will do nothing for your own cause if you already block weirdoes in the first place.

‘Carebears’ and ‘holding hands’ – why you choose to use this tone I don’t know. There’s nothing wrong with having friends, there’s nothing wrong with a friendly, social aspect to an MMO that is you know, ‘online’. But people who use words like this tend to play games in a negative tone towards other players, and it’s not healthy.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the friends/followers system. If someone’s added you as a friend, it’s almost always because you’ve helped them in some way in Guild Wars 2. Nothing to do with stalking or anything.

If someone has added you as a friend, you’ve got three choices at the moment: Add them in return, ignore it but don’t block them, or block them.

To have a pop-up and only having ‘Add as friend or block?’ is too extreme in my opinion. If someone were to add me as a friend, for example, I take it as a compliment, and also return the compliment by adding them too, even if I don’t know why. I have around 350 people on my mutual friends list. Most of who have added me don’t bother me from day to day, and at least 1/3 of whom I don’t know why they added me. But they are not a danger to me.

In other words, your solution to followers list is a solution to something that isn’t really a problem.

The block list however, I agree could do with improving. ArenaNet themselves have admitted it’s not perfect. I think if you block someone, you should always remain ‘Offline’ to the person you have blocked, for example, so if it is the rare case someone’s added you for stalking reasons, they cannot find which map you are in to follow your character around.

Hello Kyra!

I’m a roleplayer too, from Piken Square.

Although some of your ideas I really like myself, I believe the biggest thing ArenaNet can do to help roleplayers would be to include a way to select which shard you’re in, similar to districts like we saw in GW1.

I don’t know what you mean by ‘dyeing of tonics’ but more beards, horns and stuff would be cool too. I think instead of a description (if editable by players themselves, could fruit unwanted troll type descriptions and vulgar for example), more titles would help as well, especially a suggestion I made in a previous thread, one of the titles could be In Character.

Edit: Another feature I’d like, though probably won’t happen, would be to give ‘make up’ to your character that made them look injured, such as cut lips or bruised eyes etc.

Map Exploration is by far the best way to level. Not necessarily the fastest, but someone getting to level 80 ‘too quick’ might end up regretting it later when they want to make a legendary. They’ll be doing map completion on a level 80 character, with the XP they earn that could have been earned to level up (as well as the bonus karma for Obsidian Shards, gold, bonus transmutation charges, a few black lion keys etc.)

But I agree with you, I’d choose a +200% XP bonus and no Scroll over getting a +100% and a 40 scroll any day of the week. There’s a Summer Quarterly update just round the corner.

not being rude but how do you know?

1. Anet has said NOTHING about a release date or any relevant information for the summer update

2. While it is logical to expect anything on tuesday (the end of pvp league) there is a chance nothing will happen

3. there is that leaked italin article saying that LW will come at the end of summer

Because it wouldn’t be quarterly if it wasn’t. I have faith they will stick to the quarterly deadline, which is 3 months after the last one. LW in the Italian thing (which as far as I’m concerned, something could have been lost in translation by the interviewer) might not necessarily be part of the Quarterly Update.

6,356 hours played over the past 1,412 days with ZERO precursors dropped.

However, I’ve just finished making my 14th Legendary weapon so I don’t think I’m too concerned about a free precursor at this point in the game.

FYI, for what it’s worth I’m 57 years old and have never won a single Lotto jackpot either. I wonder why folks think time spent doing something increases their odds of winning at a random event.

I think that many people, including myself, find it irritating that most MMOs have this type of RNG system. Its not that it takes a lot of time to get something that should be rare, its that some people can get this “rare” item after a very short time while people who have played a long time, and even sometimes spent a lot of RL money, can go years without getting the rare item.

Yes, we know that’s how the game was set up, but it doesn’t seem fair.

I’ve also found the people who complain the most about not getting a precursor drop (or RNG in general) are the ones that only have around 2K – 5K hours. Most people above that, especially the ones that have 10K+ hours are the ones that actually don’t care about not getting a drop.

Not really sure what this has to do with not liking the RNG. I also wonder whether if you have gone 10K+ hours without a precursor you haven’t just given up at that point.

Just adding my observation to it – Almost every /age and precursor drop post is done by someone saying they have less than 5K hours, meaning it’s usually people with less hours not liking RNG.

I’ve not given up because I never expected to get one in the first place, since the chances are that low.

I’m an old player, over 16K+ hours and I don’t think it’s right that some players should be above others simply for being in the game first. All players are as important to the game as each other.

We have other means to reward loyalty – mostly in the form the birthday rewards, log-in rewards and the achievement points system (discontinued achievement points still count for older players). We don’t need anything more than that. Lets not make the community more divisive than it already is.

Untradable weapon skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

penelopehannibal.8947

Well, I’m not buying keys when I clearly don’t get scraps out of it. My RNG is so bad that while people are drowning in avian minis I can’t even land one poor raven or owl. I could totally start a repair canister/merchant express/tome of knowledge store… If I could sell them.

And for the topic at hand, as I’ve said before, I don’t trust that this was ever intended to be a one-time instance, but rather testing the waters.

Everyone’s RNG is the same, not sure why you think yours is different to anyone else’s. It wouldn’t be random if it was selectively bad for some players than for others.

As for the one-time instance – I doubt it will either. But I’m not saying if it’s not that it’s a bad thing. I think though, if Account-Bound skins were a thing when the BL tickets first started, there wouldn’t be such an uproar about it.

I haven’t even managed to average 1 full ticket per year thanks to RNG, so…. yeah. One ticket forever means absolutely nothing to me.

This, I don’t want to waste my time within the game farming keys. I’ve played that content maybe 10 times already. There really needs to be better ways of obtaining them.

Personally I just buy gems to get the keys, but each to their own I suppose.

I think they should just get rid of the XP numbers once you stop earning XP.

I consider the XP numbers as confirmation of my contribution. I know I’ve killed a mob because I saw the XP coming up – so I know I’ll get credit for an event, for example. If they were to get rid of the numbers, something else would have to pop up to confirm a kill for me, but then, what’s the point of it being something else? Might as well just be the already in-the-game mechanics.

I’d too like more stuff for roleplayers, but I don’t think animations are a thing that’s going to happen anytime soon if at all.

I think the biggest thing that would help us roleplayers is being able to select which megaserver shard you’re in, which will also help PvE players too when wanting to do World Bosses, meta events etc.

You say “Make JP great again” but mesmers have always been able to use Portal Entre on jumping puzzles. Mesmer portals are not ruining Jumping Puzzles since the only people who are affected by them are the people who use them.

Same with the character parking issue: there is not issue. I have a mesmer park at Portmatt’s Lab. I spent 800 gems (which I bought with IRL money) to make that character, levelled him. When he got to 80, I parked him there. I won’t use that character again until the next time it’s a ‘Daily Portmatt’s Jumping Puzzle’ to help others get their dailies. As an RP’er, the major issue with coming across people at random is basically, not knowing who is a troll or not. We come across plenty of people who think it’s hilarious to sit on top of people, stripping, emote spamming, the like. Even had someone commander tag up and spam map chat once on top of us.

But, we do try if people show an interest! My advice is, if you’re interested, don’t be downhearted aboit being ‘ignored’, they were probably mid event or such. Whisper someone there, chat out of character to them in anything other than the say chat (don’t be the /s “lel rp” guy) and mostly you’ll find rp’ers to be nice enough people.

Also, I never see the LFG used (seriously).

Agreed. Being ‘ignored’ isn’t necessarily people wanting to reject you, they just might be engaged with a set plot. My RP guild regularly goes out of the cities from Lion’s Arch on bounty hunts, and we often encounter people following us, mostly harmless, you get the odd troll.

But if we come across another person who is genuinely an RPer or wants to become one, we’ll try and fit a conversation or a greeting in, but it’s not always ICly capable to do so.
