It’s odd that shield can’t block but focus can. If no funtionality is going to changed, at least change the CD on shield. Way too long for the effect. Shield 4 should be in the 15-20s. Shield 5 should be 30.

Believe or not, guards are getting some new fixes worth mentioning. And by “some”, I mean “two”. But be happy, that’s alot for “super balanced guardian”.

Bane signet – KD 2s —> 3s

I don’t really care about bane signet. Dont’ use it alot unless need some dps buff.
But the retreat CD reduction, aside from abit more frequent aegis (yay), the shorter downtime in Swiftness can free those of us that are relying on speed rune sets for mobility to other alternatives. In general, something to look forward to.

They are historically stingy with skill balancing. Like that healing skill LoW, it has been long called for no castingtime, they responded by reducing casting time by subtracting 0.25 second from the current casting time of 1 second … so 0.75 s … yay!. In another instance, the Ranger grandmaster trait – Strider Defense, 15% chance to 20% chance in a super situational situation setting. So I don’t see a possibility of what you are suggesting to come to pass.

The idea is that you’re supposed to kill the enemies, not walk past them. I know this doesn’t happen, but yeah, that’s what the devs were thinking.

Not all the time, like the collecting the scepter parts in AC1 or the tunnel race before the last boss which can wipe your party with the traps and virtually perma knockdown, it’s more a test of dexterity/agility than a brawl challenge.

If anything I love devs to take away from us, it’s these NPCs’ autoattack. It does absolutely no meaningful damage in any whatsoever way. Yet, the npcs love to stop on their track to w/e destination to fire aimlessly at some mob which ultimately lead to their demise and people either have to wait for their respawn or have to join in the fight needlessly. Ask Mr. Magg or Mr. Hog. I always wonder what came across the devs’ mind then they gave them autoattack with no damage while setting them on an intended path. Just make them simply go straight to w/e they are intended to go plz.

I would say it’s OP for a master rank trait when merged. You paid 4 points just for it. Most used manipulation skill is the blink , the rest have long enough cool down and the effect isn’t any game-breaking.

After the patch where devs somehow found that shield 5 was somehow over-performing, now shield 5 only block projectile for no more than 2 seconds. Fix now.

Anet could give us a design contest in which players may design new weapons and weapon sets. By the way Skyrim has excellent player made weapons; very good. Sure we have here equally talented players.

I would love that. Players’ designs had proven to be surprisingly good, if not better than certain artist team…. But they might disqualify you if you submit something without particle effects.

I’m not saying this particular new set look bad. The design is neat, especially for the pillars or in your new mansion or a get-well card . As a weapon? not so much, maybe except the staff or scepter..magic related things that need not physical contact. I agree with folks’ responses, the trend of weapons designs no longer consider a weapon as a weapon, but an ornament hanging on your character, sparkling, flowy, curly, floating, and somehow shoot a bullet or crush enemy with blunt force. If you like your characters running around to be decorated with nice sparking little things like a Christmas tree, by all means, these are THE STUFF, nice and flashy. For a dragon-slaying hero in Anet’s lore, I love to have something more …. practical, as silly as it might sounds. The last things that has intricately ornated design without flashy thingy on it is the legendary shield …. in its towed state and the hilt of Sunrise.

seems like nowadays they think weapons just are another decoration accessories more so than actual weapons. A random stick + some random particle effect = woww it’s so beautiful -_-
In some games i can name, i believe ithere are artists out there who can create something cool by investing in a combination of ornated designs, the flow of ornate decoration and the shape of weapons instead of resorting to a cheap and quick way to make something eye-catching.

shield gives you extra toughness and some party wide protection boon on demand. I dont use shield 5 so much except for some emergency room to res someone who got swamped. Focus is nice to survive initial push. I’d use torch if torch 5 can remove your own conditions.

I usually get high blood pressure when people call to nerf something. I will have to agree to this. This one single move to easily thwart the entire enemy zerk’s attempt is way too convenient. I would say 5 second effect is disruptive enough, left alone a whooping half a minute?

Do traps really have any place in game? As they are, there are better options in pve . As for wvw, last time my guard stepped on a trap, first time since game started!!! , well 2 traps in a row, he went “oh oops, oh well”. Some use in spvp, but aside from that, given their effects and cd, pretty… negligible if you ask me.

Well, the responses were civil, but that does not seem to have been the intent of the thread from the OP.

May I ask what was this uncivil intention of mine you spoke of that even myself don’t even know? No matter how much I reread my original post, I couldn’t find out which letter that is evil. Couldn’t be worse than folks who constantly complains the class they lost to being OP. It seems people are quick to report these days (grins). Anyhow, as raven said, the responses, most of it, are fun too read.

Guardian - Shield 5 bugged after patch

After patch which was stated to fix an alleged “bug” that make shield continue to absorb after the Guardian stood up.

Description originally since game started state the shield would absorb projectiles for 4 seconds, now it only do so for somewhere between 1-2 second.

I suspect that Ders mistook the last 2 second after the 2 second channel animation as a bug and eliminate it . Now the shield which was bad now become worse.
Please admit the mistake and make appropriate fixes.

If by any means running petless ended up behing better then running with pet before long all if any ranger running his pet out would get the party kick! I didnt pick up ranger so i could could shoot prety daisy arrows but so i could run a killing machine called the pet.

While giving option to the player not to run the pet could be possible running the pet should also remain a viable if not more viable option (pet cost time control and sacrifice to play correctly those who are eager to makes those sacrifice and live the wedding with the AI should be rewarded as such properly! Difficulty should always be rewarded somehow)

You petless freaks all thinks ranger is better off witheout pet but did you realise the work and dedication it takes a pure pet user to work his/her build trought with effectiveness? Just because a minion master runs on AI doesnt mean the AI doesnt bug or act stupid at time, the micromanagement is ridiculus and its a full time job to keep track of both you and all of your pets if you got any else either you or the pet end up dead, im litteraly managing two character at the same time so why by all means should a build wich runs on a single character be more effective then mine.

See folks, this is a classic example of strawman arguments. These folks created a fake and wrong presentation of idea they don’t like (but they themselves are not forced to adhere to) and argue against it as if that idea will be imposed on them.
No one said ranger is better off without pets. I am saying some people, including me, are better off without pet. If YOU think you are better off with your pets, DO IT, by all means, I’m gona be a civil good sport by not calling you a “pet freak” like you did to me. Choices bring elitism? so should GW2 has only one single profession then because the evil 8 choices would bring elitism? talking about making rules on your own. And you can rant all days about how you think petless is bad, but that’s my problem, my choice , so stay out. You would still have your choice of running pet, then be on your way! and why the need to trash other people’s taste? So much time in the hand aint we.

Was there any justification as to why the old system was in such dire straight that need to be replaced by NPE aside from “we need to educate new players” ? I learns all my tricks from conventional leveling since game starts. Nothing wrong with it and, as far as I know there was no desperate plea from the community to replace the old system. Leveling to 80 was quite a process, but you were able to pick a thing to learn whenever you want because they were all readily available for the most part. And here now the NPE is here and indiscriminately affects both new and veterans alike. Locking away things won’t do any good and counter productive because give players less exposure it. The only changes that would be befitting is either giving players an option to opt out of NPE when creating a new toon or removing NPE entirely.

Honest, hard to argue with these folks and their strawman logics. Look up what “strawman” logic is .
“Option”, must I repeat. “OPTION”. There ! No one talking about forcibly taking pets away for everyone. If you love your pets and think they are awesome , fine, you can toggle it and keep it out as an OPTION. And of course, those that think they are better off would like to permanently tow their pet to focus on sniping target from afar, they should also have the OPTION to do it. And those that feel like to try both style will have the option to do both. That’s “OPTION” is all about. If you think rangers without pets suck , the problem is yours but don’t expect other people to have to be forced to play with a playstyle of your opinion. I’m sure you can find arguments against petless style, but again, that’s your opinion, your style. With all that rant about how AWESOME pets are, you are demanding people to respect your favorred pet playstyle, but have you done your part in respect other’s option?

A trait that is pretty good, but in the markmanship branch where the user more often than not being at least 900 (SB) and 1200-1300 for LB from the front. If it will benefit anyone, probly just other backliners. unless you giving up a good part of your range advantage. That aside, being a markmanship master will compete with 2 other good LB traits. Maybe skirmish would be more appropriate, a branch of good states but short of a few good traits.

Nothing against pink, but some other color could be cool, and you can pick a color based on the god choice picked during character creation. Like Menlandru = green, Dwayna = blue, Grenth = black , Lyssa = pink etc…. I like the way the illusions fading away when killed or when their target dies, ultra cool!, but super ultra cool if it’s in …black for example.

No, we understand you want it to be optional. We disagree that it should be an option.

Ranger is the pet profession. You made your ranger aware of this fact.

Once more if it was optional and the player was compensated with say, a 30% damage boost, then one of the two options would inevitably become superior to the other. More than likely the stowing of the pet will be the optimal choice as it removes the difficulty of dealing with the AI completely, and so will always be the better choice.

This would result in those of us who rolled the pet profession for the pet being sub-optimal players. We’d be looked down on much as bearbow players are looked down on now, but not for being bad players. For simply wanting to use the class mechanic that we signed up for when making our rangers.

“LOL scrub why u take stupid AI cheese over the straight damage buff? LOOKIT LOSER OVER HERE. LOLOLOL!”

If you don’t want a pet there are other options available. Thief if you wanted to be a fast moving burst damage dealer or warrior if you wanted to be a sturdy fighter type.

Against having an option? this is new to me. It’s like saying "mom, i want you to tell me to go straight to bed, i hate it when you give me the option to do something else’. Why? you get to play pet if you want , why would be against other people having the option not the play the same style you do?

The keyword here is “option”. No one ever said "Take those pets away for everyone !! " If you love your pet, you can keep it. Those who don’t then would get to play without it. Everyone’s preference is respected when given the option. What’s with " no petless option please! Stride Defense - a grandmaster?

Just gonna throw this out there, cause I’ve used this traits a multitude of times pre patch cause it’s hilarious (or at least was I’ll be testing it this weekend), it destroys projectiles, so if it would pierce or cause an AoE (like Nades or combustion shot) instead the whole projectile ends at you and does absolutely nothing, also the projectile just has to fly through a radius around you (Melee range) and not even be aimed at you AT ALL.

Also, in WvW and other big cluster kittens it procs significantly more, to the point where you’re a walking AoE projectile denial field for you and your allies.

It’s an interesting trait, that much I can say, but imo I’d rather them change it to be something more reliable like maybe, “after dodging reflect/destroy projectiles for the next X seconds.” I feel that’d be more interesting by far, and wouldn’t be significantly broken in areas of the game where Striders defense shines.

That’s assuming that you happen to be in melee combat at the time when it happens that someone uses missile and that missile happens to go straight at you. But yah, even Anet notice that just maybe …just maybe it’s not that good, so they upped the chance from the 15% to an super generous 20%!!! Take that, you evil ranged folks! beware of my Strider’s defense!

As it turns out (at least from the video they showed) you don’t NEED to be in Melee, just swinging your sword. And also it’s not straight at you, it’s Melee range around you, so like 160 radius.

good to know, but you know… i’d rather move around or dodge than just swing aimlessly in hope that i will get that proc …

seems always rather prompt and quick to fix skills that give some so-called ‘unintended’ benefit but won’t budge on under-performing skills/traits.
Well-performing skill —> ‘hmm, can’t let that happen, fix , fix ! fix NOW!!! ‘. Under-performing skill —> ’so? those guys can live with it’. I really don’t get this mentality. The buffs to ranger bow and GS, for example, came after a whooping 2 years of not budging on players’ criticism. I hope their responses will be just as diligent and fast as much as they do with gemstore items implementation.

petless option please

i am against the petless option. I choosed the Ranger coz of this pet.
But in last time i run with my guild few dungeons and sometimes can understand why a lot of ranger want a petless option.
The current problem is that when we stow our pet and get infight the pet comes out.
No big problem, but it is a problem when we use AoE Stealth, i take Fall dmg and the pet pulls a lot of mobs.
So i think a BIG QoL change would be when the pet doesnt come out when we get Fall dmg. That would cause that Dungeon ranger have an easier time.
Thats my opinion

Stride Defense - a grandmaster?

Anyone using this one? Looks abit underwhelming to me. Ranged enemies aint that common, and it seems to work during combat, ..um, melee combat, and blocks 1 out of 5 ranged attack. Seems like extremely… extremely situation specific. Even if somehow you got stuck in a den full of archers, if you are melee, if you are not attacking, don’t expect for that 1 out of 5 block.

I mained ranger in GW1 and enjoyed it, especially without pet (nice to have all the focus is to snip down the $#@$ out of foes, especially the squishy looking ones. and we all know how pet’s AI goes). GW2 should have give option to put pet away while giving ranger some sort of buff to compensate for a petless play style. Why? well, why not ?.
I know someone will start " oh shut it, they stated from the beginning that pet will be the ranger’s mechanic". Well, firstly, that is bad idea to begin with, forcing people to having a pet following around and worrying about the AI. And two, why can’t it be optional. Guardian’s virtue activation is their class mechanic, but they have the option not to activate it. Sure some would call them selfish freak or bad guard, but hey, at least they have the option. Mesmer’s shatter is their class mechanic, but they can run other builds that doesn’t involve shatter. Warrior can do built that optimizes based on NOT using adrenaline. Want more? I can do it all day. So please, option to tow it a away and compensate me with …maybe 25% speed boost or something.

What is this? take away all we had before and spread them back to us with level gating and got the guts to pad our heads and say " these are our generous rewards to you as you level". And when facing an unprecedented backlash, they came out and say “there are bugs”. excuses, excuses , bugs, bugs and bugs everywhere. We are not kids that you need to hold our hand to play game, and we weren’t born yesterday to believe those kind of excuses . Honestly, there is better things in life to enjoy than to look for the kind of fun by popping kids’ balloons in the park. What next? level gating maps too? Anet, don’t insults our intelligence and ability to play, and you are not our mom to tell us not experience enough to do activities. I don’t need to be at certain level to dodge, and god forbid, even to pick up a goggle and dive. As far as ideas go, having “new ideas” are not the same thing as having “good ideas” . Why spending all these times to implement stuff that no one asks for, not even thought of it, while leaving out issues that were brought up since the game started?

Absurd. Explain to me why i have to be at level X to click on the goggle and jump ? Don’t kitten me with “oh you know, these are unintentional bugs”. yah, like you were sleep-programming when you put that activity code into the blacklist.

The point of the OP isn’t about whether a particular build is good or not. It’s about how others deal with being in a group with a non-meta build or playstyle. I’m not sure why people expect PUGs to play a certain way; the beauty (and the horror) of PUGs is that anything can happen (and often does).

If you can’t stand it when people behave randomly, why join a random group of people? Seems like a recipe for frustration.

This is it really. Thank you for putting it out so clearly. I always place in my party messages what I am looking for, if no message its free game for everyone imo.

I like how rifles look, way cooler then the bow. Skills are more fun to use to me. So I have to be clear with my messages so I don’t end up with people who dislike my view on whats fun.

Just as much as they would hate to join me for not being optimal, I wouldn’t want to join them for being so strict either in a video game. It’s the only way to try and keep a positive experience for yourself.

If you join someone’s group, respect their expectation. Don’t join someone’s else group and expect them to respect your taste in builds. Why not leave and start your own NRA club and spend your entire day in that fractals to marvel at guns. If you so admit you are not optimal, why can’t you be ? If you want people to respect your taste in weapon, but have you done your part in respect other people’s time that could have been saved because of you? If it is not ignorance, it is selfishness to the bone.

you’re a war and using a rifle, …..and on fractals 50?… and there are 2 more of you?. Explain yourself! No sympathy here. Though the remaining 2 players should not have been so verbally confrontational. Instead, they should have, as i would, kicked you 3 without mercy or a second thought, though quietly the moment they see the rifle being used as main.

most meditation skills are reactive, might leave the guard vulnerable if used offensively. And if used defensively , very likely out of sync with group’s burst. Well, a buff is a buff, i wouldn’t trash it.

I wouldn’t trash Shield that much, shield gives you quite abit of extra defense at all time. Not to say that shield skills need some ups, or at least reducing CD,

not that i’m saying you are wrong, but for this particular feature, no one was wanting it, or asking for it, or even thought of it. They came up with it on their own and messed it up royally, judging by the level of backlash that rivals those of Scarlet.
