I definitely could agree with this. The design team of Anet are lacking in ornate design skills. It would seem their artistic philosophy can be summed up by this formula:
Good look = 1000*(particle effect) + stick figures + oversize + X*floating part
Not to say they never had any single good design, however the trends seem to be the over-abuse of particle effects to compensate for the lacking in intricate ornation

i) CD wont trigger unless all pages of a tome all used up. Even if tomes are swapped out.
ii) pages of a tome regenerate over time, just like mantra , when that tome is active.
iii) tomes recharges should be 15 , 30, 60 for each one.
iv) cone range to 600.

I can’t wait to test out the axe this weekend. The concept sounds good with dual hits when it comes to VOJ, doe mainhand sword applies VOJ pretty reliable too. I’m not too sure on how well that bleeding works out, since our trait system is geared towards burnings that favor sword abit more as it is equally good as a power weapon while applying plenty of VOJ burn with the third tri-hit. Also giving up the long bow for another melee weapon is abit tough of a choice since i’m not a big fan of slow moving orbs and shorter range of scepter.

I’m well aware the way they nerf it may not be the best one, I’m just saying some people were still clueless about why they nerf it, saying staff was always useless outside of tagging foes, which is kinda hilarious.

Of course the thread is in response to the particular recently nerf, i.e. “the way they nerfed it”, and you admitted that change “may not be the best one”. That admission would clearly indicate that you would have question as to why they nerfed that that way, which kinda undermine your “kinda hilarious” statement pertaining people who question the change and directed it way back at youself. What will happen to people who don’t play FB or any condi heavy build and wish to use staff? Changing a core weapon around a single specialization is simply shallow and bad design, not just “may not be the best”. If a trait that render a single core skill over-performing, fine, i get it, change is needed, but fix should be at the trait level rather than nerfing a core skill all together, affecting all other builds, just to cater towards a single trait. Like you said, splitting the skill could be an option, but in WvW , Zerg clash is already a cesspool of condis with almost instant death if you get caught in that unprepared anyways.

Just out of curiosity, Dervs, after THIS many years, especially without any particular notable amount of complaints on the state of the guardian’s staff, what sort of bad dream did you have that night to have woken up one day and go: This staff 1 is so going down and I personally see to that. Now it is one hair short of being a melee weapon with s—tty damage, I just want to know why and why now. Even if you dervs might have lost a PvP match against a staff guardian that one night, imagine that, but that’s definitely not a good reason it being anyway broken.

The way i see it,

i) First thing first: Fix the pathing for all of them, they tend to get stuck trying to get to enemies in higher elevation.

ii) Cast time: make it instant, or 0.25s if you really insist on being the evil mother-in-law. Imagine that, as it is, by the time you finish summon the spirit Shield, you already will have eaten all the skill bar of that ranger and his grandmother’s.

iii) Spirit bow: add some sort of condi cleanse please. Like cleanses one condition when you are healed by X number of impacts, to give some incentive to stay in there for abit longer. As of now, there are better choice to compete for a support slot, and that sort of local heal over time that requires allies and self to be rooted in that area alone simply provide little incentives to pick over others.

Shield: as above, shorter cast time and duration should be 3 second at the very least.

Overall , what we have right now is a step towards right direction, but need abit more twist to make them a competitive choices against other builds or slot choice.

Never had issue taking towers/keep equipped with shield generators. Some people are better at devising counter strategy than others. One key difference: One actually active find way to counter, one raged quit and went to forum to vent, and hopefully it will be nerfed so they won’t have to think about countering.

People who keeps bringing up these mount suggestion need to get punished by a 99% tax in the TP. It had been clear over and over again, they won’t do it, period. The interest in the community is tepid to begin with. The Waypoint system already render mounts unnecessary. There’s a boon called swiftness if you need speed. Most class has one way or another to get some sort of speed boost enough to get from point A to B between the way points. Mounts with speed boost will also diminish the existing speed buff (Gliding already did so in certain extend). But if they introduce mounts without speed boost, there will be cry about “what’s the point of mount without speed”? Absolutely Anet will not put themselves in that sort of position.

Sword is too dull, but the best one out of the pack. Hammer can be good against Defiance bar but generally too disruptive to use in most circumstance. Shield’s situationally good, but can be unreliable when it comes to positioning. Bow, lol.

Of course, that sword AA #3 that miss everyone will never get fixed. You would think stuff that affects everyday operation like AA would get attention. I would agree on this subject. I wonder what kind of…mentality who wake up one day and goes “I will pick tumor image for this particular animation”. Even just a normal small tree would be fine, doesn’t have to be something THAT odd. It takes a …special guy to select that image over all things plant-based you have witnessed in your life.

not sure if it’s from the recent patch, DS failed even though we killed him, Mordy. he stopped appearing but the event did not conclude. Waste of 2 hours. Since you did mess up some classes’ skills from the patch today, i have perfect reason to suspect this too. Thanks alot, waste of my time. The first patch of the new year and so many things got ruined instead of improvement, definitely not a good start.

No subscription, but now also free too play? There has to be a degree limit to being spoiled. People demanded free food and also free spoon-feeding service nowadays huh. It’s just a one time cost for god sake, just pay up and play for years. So much time devoted just to waive a 50 buck. This is beyond stinginess, it’s along the line of penny-pinching and mingy. Their gemstore is mainly for non-essential service and cosmetic stuff, you don’t need to pay to the gemstore to play normally.

Beggars can’t demand. And “feeling bullied into buying the expansion” ? how? you always have the option to play something else. You are bullied by your addiction more like. It’s like walking into a restaurant and being offered a sample and say “feeling bullied into ordering food”. Don’t like it? walk out. Aint you a little spoiled having things both ways, not paying but having accessing to features that people who actually paid the game. Since when the basic law of commerce, i.e. “pay and thou shalt receive/keep” becomes a point of debate. . Be happy that you can actually taste the sample before complaining the sample not being enough. There are merchants that don’t even give samples you know. Remember the kind of customers who were offered some samples and keep asking for a couple more but refusing to buy the product nevetheless? yah, those kind of people. And you are acting just like them. If you like the game that much to the extend of demanding to have more access, why not buy the game, as the way it should be, or at least like the people before you paid to get the game? and remember this is no monthly fee, happy yet?

rebound should at least restore you to half life with protection and/or regen. The greatsword, maybe in a 60-75second CD. The glyph should recharge right away upon use, I mean… look at engi’s drones.

Considering it being an super easily dodgable, interuptable and root the guardian, and on a 45second cool down, its ability to trip potentially more than one stack of stability is more than justified. Necros and mesmers have easier means with much shorter cool down to strip ALL of stability stack, don’t you think that being more outrageous? Beside, you said it yourself “f you walk through at the wrong place”, so the issue is not the trap, it’s the person that walk the wrong place. Don’t walk the wrong way, that’s true when encountering any of enemy skills, not just that of Guardians. What more, in a wvw zerg, people are too complacent that they can rush through anything being in a group that they don’t bother avoiding, dodging anything most of the time, so then it’s not the skill’s issue, again it’s the people’s issue. You can’t expect a straight graveled road laid out for you in anyway you take, can you.

gliding interferes with hot jumping puzzles

Not sure if it is just me, but during longer jumps, especially ones with high vertical gaps, the glider will deploy if space bar (for jumping) is pressed slightly longer and cause you to glide over the intended platforms. Happens alot and usually the primary source of failures. I’m practicing myself to have shorter keystroke to limit this but still accidentally deploy the gliders sometimes. Any thoughts?

I won’t say if this is just lack of thoughts or just lazy design, but these ’shoulder" should has an slot of its own (i.e. effect slot). Making these effects a shoulder piece will a) no shoulders!, especially if I want to see my shoulder armor (heavy sets anyone?) b) interfere with outfits (which should be armor skins of themselves)

After failing quite many times, I have achieved at least the level of cruising through the snowflake flatforms without even thinking about it. the boxes are one of the worst parts of the thing imo, I could never figured out the pattern, through strangely I got through quite frequent. And the absolute worst part of the puzzle: OTHER PEOPLE! gosh, so many distraction and charrs and norns are so big they can obstruct your views of the platforms.

NERF TRAPS

Honestly, traps are cheesy and easy to avoid. They’re good for killing newbies and the unaware, and that’s about it.

But most of what goes on with Guardian builds is cheesy. They’re a cheddar class.

I saw someone mention thieves, and in reference to that when it comes to DH, I would honestly just tackle them from ranged to draw them away from their traps. Most all of them that I’ve seen so far are awful when it comes to positional awareness, so it’s easy to trick one into kittening after you to try to get into attack range, where they’ll promptly dump traps again and then start to cry when you shadow step away and pop them with a couple of ranged attacks.

I love trap DH players. It’s like playing keep-away with toddlers.

Gosh, salty aint we? mesmers are ones I lost again more often but I don’t really talk about them in this manner. Looks like someone got their behind handed over to traps alot to build this much bitterness.

I think people taking blessings for granted, to the extend of complaining about it. First, “i want to be wanted”, now “you know…I don’t really want these things, even though it’s good and they want me now”. With or without a mesmer, there are two types of skills in this game, skills that can be used more than once in a fight, and skills that probably only occurs once , or twice max, twice max , time wrap comes to mind, BUT you will finish the fight anyways. With aclarity, discounting F5 of chrono, you probably can use the skills ( whether or not with a long recharge) one or two more times during a fight, and i don’t think that really breaking the game in anyways. Bosses that are normally be kill with much efforts will always be easy, regardless of if there’s alacrity or perma alacrity. The difference is more tangible if you deal with tougher bosses like those of legendary classes in HOT, but with those, at max perma alacrity only shorten a fight by a minute or two, but still render you easily one-shot by them no?. So honestly, perma aclarity is a nonissue imo, albeit making easy fights abit more faster and soothing those tough fights by a bit.
