Did you guys born yesterday?

Majority of MMOs have always given ALL previous expansios for free with new expansion coming out. Only latest title carries any business value.

at least the next one should come with new character slot , no? what is it for them to lose to give a single character slot for this much money paid to an expansion that costs about as much as the base game. Don’t know about you, but I usually don’t defend people that ripped me off.

Did you forget this is a B2P game? They are running the servers you play on for free, providing patches and content for free and do not require a subscription. Other MMOs require monthly $14 subs + $30 to $40 for expansion.

See folks, this is your classic example of strawman argument: creating a fake and false controversy and arguing against like like a hero of justice. OP: If you actually READ the threads, people don’t complain about the number in itself, they are complaining about why it is unfair to vets players vs. new people. For the basic version, both pay the same amount of money, but new players get the old content , and the new content and full 5 character slot), whereas vet players like us merely only able to bring our existing character to the next content. In case you haven’t noticed, you got ripped off too. I never seen someone so eager defending the ones that ripped you off.

No I don’t. I don’t play WoW did you get a free slot with each of those expansions? I think players keep forgetting that each of the first three GW games were standalone and the free slot came with having them on the same account. City of Heroes and City of Villains did the same thing. They were standalone games and you only got extra slots if they were on the same account (later everyone was grandfathered in with the other game if you didn’t already have it).

I have no idea what you are saying, especially that first part… something very sublime about grammar. But sounds like you hate the idea of getting a free slot. if you refuse a slot and insists on paying for it, I suppose I can’t stop you. But hey, why the opposition at all, if the basic HOT does come with free slot, and since you are this insistent on paying for it, you can ignore the free slot, pretend it is not there, and purchase one with your own money.

Lots of pricing talk today with back and forth exchange. I could see the frustration where veteran players practically pay for the base game twice and that the basic game version don’t even come with a character slot. I really don’t mind about “paying for the game twice part” that much, but don’t you think at least the basic version of HOT should come with a free character slot for people who had purchased the base game. Everything is virtual, things can created by a tap of a button. Not like Anet will have to drill oils in the coast to get material to mass produce that free character slot.

Whatever happens, please do NOT add a block to sheild. We already have that in Focus and it still wouldn’t make Shield any more of an attractive weapon over Focus. It would also be OP’ed to be swapping between two offhand blocker weapons while both their cooldown traits are in the same line.

Then move one of the traits to a different line. Warriors can already build for 2 different blocks (technically 3, if you were silly enough to run mace mainhand, shield, and sword offhand), and Honor could most definitely use some better Adept traits.

Stop feeding the troll dude. Can’t you tell whether a person is here for a serious talk?

CD was always an issue since the beginning of the game! I don’t imagine this stuff!

It’s a lame reason but I don’t think shield is going to get alot of super good effects as long as it’s buffing defense. It’s there passively, it’s skills are probably not going to get too flashy or over the top.

Please go else where to troll. What? popping shield 5 a few second sooner will make a difference? No one asking for an over the top effect, everyone is asking for something pratical – l ike a shield that does block melee, and i know it sounds crazy to you. nice try on the Strawman.

How about this?

  • Shield of Absorption cooldown goes from 30s to 24s baseline.
  • Shield of Judgement cooldown goes from 25s to 20s baseline.

Added to the release notes maintained in General Discussion.

Edit: For clarification, the shield recharge trait is still there on top of this. It brings the cooldowns from 24>19s, and 20>16s.

CD is not the issue. I’m trying to be respectfully constructive here. It doesn’t matter even if you make the CDs go down to 15 and 20s for Shield 4/5. Shield 5’s activation is situational and spamming it will probably get you kicked of a dungeon. I normally use shield 5 only when need to reposition a boss or clear ways to rez that newbie over there, which one use of shield 5 is good enough. Maybe anyone covered by the shield get a one time 3s of regen? Shield 4 is clunky and we don’t need the damage portion of it. Please keep the current CD and make it apply aegis for 3 second, then it make shield 4 at least a good panic button when used right, i.e. requiring the guardian to use it skillfully and not spamming. 3 second is a good duration. Not too short, not too long.
Regarding shield trait, I cannot make it any clearer: NO ONE will ever pick it. You know why? because Strength in Number is there! in the same tier of the same line. Move it to Adept Honor in place of mace trait will probably worth the consideration. Just how many guardian out there using shield anyways.
So what i’m asking is this: 1) shield 4 applies 3s of aegis to affected allies. 2) shield 5 give a one-time 3s regen for people that got covered 3) move shield trait else where, maybe honor adept.

PS: shield 5 only lasts for 2 second currently, rather than the description of 4 seconds.

Dude, don’t you get it, we are “in a good spot right now”. So stop asking. We are in good spot so don’t expect EVEN any bug-fixing, left alone anything else, because “we are good spot”. Don’t you know, our good spot trumps any bugs. Even if our characters walk upside down, or aegis clipping (oh wait, that’s already happening) they wont fix it, because, yes, you guessed it “we are in a good spot right now”.

That’s IF you pick them. I’m curious why are you purposely avoiding these lines:
Virtue of Justice, Resolve, Courage: The radius of the active portion from these abilities have been reduced from 1200 to 600.
Fiery Wrath: Damage against burning foes is increased by 7%.
Scepter being in symbol line.
Battle Presence: This trait no longer functions if Resolution is on cooldown.
I never said we didnt get some better stuff, but you are denying we never get nerfed. So there I just proved to you. Gotta read everything, you know?

I think trade implies giving up something you know…

the question should be why there is even a trade at all, considering mesmer and elems who basically won lottery. If you are forced to have a trade-off when there is no need for a trade, then you automatically have a bad deal. Explain why there needs a range nerf for virtue? no one ever complained. The CD are already terrribly long enough for the effect. Or fiery wrath nerf. Or battle presence.

Well mace will be replacing sword in dungeons, but if you are going Honor might as well pick up a hammer which would render the mace to situational at best. So the trait either misplaced or underwhelming

These are our 3 choices:

Adept:

Invigorated Bulwark: Gain increased healing power, each worth up to 50 attribute points (based on effective level) for a period of time each time you block an attack while wielding a mace. Stacks up to 10 times. Mace abilities have 20% reduced recharge.
Protective Reviver: Activate a shield of absorption when you begin reviving an ally (24 second internal cooldown). Upon successful revival, you and each ally gain aegis, protection , and regeneration for 10 seconds.
Protector’s Impact: Create a symbol of protection when you take falling damage. You take 50% less damage when falling.

Firstly, do we have to use mace now? Secondly, I guess now I have to abandon the front line and go res some one. And what’s good of those buff when rezing someone after battle? And lastly, where/when/how often do you need the falling damage cushion in pve?

How do you get to a 10% chance of success? It is 100% every 10 seconds, that does not equal 10%.

Mesmer rarely sees top tier play and Ele is falling out because of shoutbow doing a better job. Can you name a time period where guardian wasn’t meta? Please inform me.

Nothing but anger reading the note. Mesmers have been good at pvp and pve, they got buffed further, which i’m happy cuz i got a mesmer too. And we guards get nerfed on things that have never been an issue. Can you believe the range of virtue got cut by half just because? They tried sugarcoating it with the recharge reduction of virtue, but think: given duration of the a fight, whether it’s 90s or 75s CD, you probably will only activate it once anyways (twice if with the elite), so the CD reduction is worthless “buff”. And why the scepter trait is in the symbol line is beyond me. Totally didn’t see that coming. The twit crashed just before guardian, i guess they don’t wana directly deal with the firestorm. It’s easy to quietly ignoring guardian threads on forum.

Shield trait and strength in number

Stalwart Defender – Gain 180 additional toughness while wielding a shield. Shield ability recharge is reduced by 20%.
Strength in Number – Nearby allies gain toughness based on your effective level.

I don’t see why these two are in the same tier in the Valor line, which mean you can only pick either one of them.
Abit redundant in effect, but Obviously, anyone in their right mind would pick strength in Number over the shield trait for AOE buff even the effect of shield trait is slightly better with the number. The shield trait is without a doubt never getting picked (not like shield is terribly effective anyways). I would say move the shield trait to a different line or at least a different tier (adept)

Guardians are incredible and will remain indispensable in all formats even after Revenants come out. I agree that spirit weapons are garbage and need a lot of help, but the Guardian itself won’t have its worth usurped by the Revenant. There is some overlap, for sure, but I wouldn’t really worry about the Guardian’s position.

I think the point being made here is that Rev’s power is “too many in one packet” and along with the overlapping with the Guardian in particular can eclipse the Guardian in what he is, at least thematically, supposed to do: guarding . You are right in that Guardian don’t suddenly become weaker just become someone else is better at something. Guardian will remain powerful at what he has been doing. The sentiment here is that why a Rev can do several “guarding” tasks at least equal, if not better, than the one that is supposedly specialized at it. This is not to mention that Rev can be arguably ranged better than certain ranged class, can do conditions arguably better than certain conditions class, but I don’t go into that since I only speak for guardians. I call this “inflation effect” – i.e. the latter born class(es) are likely to be given better stuff since the devs actually experience the CURRENT game challenges, whereas the original classes were given stuff BEFORE challenges are formulated.

Steath and backstabs are thieves’ cards. You have the luxury to enter and exit fight whenever you want/can and can do supprised stun/damage burst, and dealing damage from a far with excellent mobility. If you let yourself get caught by a guard, the nortious slowmo class… well, perhaps, maybe, just maybe …you suck and need to LTP. And perhaps it’s possible that you were being outplayed by a much better players OR just maybe that the Guardian’s particular build is your natural enemy? Even IF assuming that Guardians always have easy time against thief even if he just closes his eyes and with random utilities, but you specifically target Guardians in this QQ, but not other classes, that means you can trump other classes, now your personal agenda is to take out the last and only natural enemy, no? Want to be at the top of the food chain or something? . Even when playing this “overpowered” guardian that OP speak of, I learn that not every encounters have good odd of winning. Personally, my natural enemies are any class that keep distances when appropriate, cripple/chill spamming and heavy conditions, but i don’t campaign to tone them down. Take personal responsibility once in a while and learn to navigate obstacles to win

Guards too strong vs Thief

What do you mean ‘struggle" hard against a guardian? Head on? of course, thief is far more squishy against a guardian when it comes to headon confrontation, but that’s not how you play a thief. Head-on you will be dead against war, mesmer, necro or virtually everything else because that is not your class mechanics focus. Have you thought of another possible explanations of your failure to contain a guardian? I thought of 3’s: 1) you are…quite frankly… not there yet 2) You met some good players and 3) all of the above . Talking about struggle, how about us guardians desperately trying to catch thief who went in stealth which we have no direct mechanism against virtually every 3-5 seconds, having no intention to fight but rather trolling. Should we also ask to “tone down” thieves too?

Classifying "traps" as "symbols"

As title ^. The idea is not new, not my original idea, and been floating around in random posts. I thought it’s something worth considering so it’s probably good to give it an actual thread. In case you haven’t noticed, we got traps as new skill type, just like mesmer with wells. Traps basically function exactly like our symbols, AOE-DOT with various misc effects, the differences it is strategically timed and required triggers, otherwise the same as symbols. So I don’t see why not classify it as symbols. Symbols can be the new type of Utility. “Traps” has one single trait dedicated for it, aside from generic sync with our burn virtue, whereas we have various traits dedicated for symbols. Traps being “traps” as they are right now offer little attractions (becuase it’s kinda out of no where in the Guardian’s trait tree), I could see some use in WvW. but not very attractive. A dungeon group probably could be less thrilled to see your Guardian laying out traps when they expect you either shouting or making walls. So , by classifying them as symbols, you give it more incentive to actually incorporate them into builds, and making the Zeal trait more relevant

As you who at least mained a guardian know, we got a special place in a group’s heart. People love it if a group has a least a guardian. Why? a good meat shield, they expect you to be front line help soaking up damage, then the cleanse, the stability, protection boons, the emergency party heal/block etc…. Now that we got ranged option that a lot of folks ask for, then traps. I can’t help but wonder what’s the party’s reaction when the only guardian in the group wielding a bow and stays behind the dagger elem most of the time, especially when he starts planting traps. Nothing negative, just wondering.

So… lets see, for all the weapon sets (despite the title of the thread being melee)

VoJ: now does more burning damage, aoe, based on staying close,
VoR, leap, gap closer.
VoC: destroys projectiles, great for when getting kited,

Traits:

Piercing light, bleed for traps, which can obviously used well in melee builds, despite weapon,

Zealots Aggression, free 10% damage to crippled enemies, count cripple from any source

Soaring Devestation: an attack AND IMMOB on VoR.

Defenders dogma: instant VoJ passive on block, good for focus and mace

Bulwark: increase to VoC, bigger range and duration, helps more with dealing with kiting,

Dulled Senses: cripple on knockback, hammer/shield both have knockbacks, and also the honor trait protective reviver. wondering if this works for wards as well, though i believe those are only knockdowns, if so, would like seeing the trait buffed to any actual stuns, knockdowns and knockbacks

Pure of sight: extra damage at range, includes scepter and staff, torch throw, if they ever fix it sword #3….

Hunters fort: free prot on virtue activation, works for any weapon.

Big game hunter: vuln when attacking Voj’ed enemies, GREAT for multi hit weapons such as GS, scepter, sword, and torch, but also allows for free vuln regardless.

So based on the OP saying that the trait line is focused around traps and LB, there is ONE trap trait (which honestly i wish had some more substance to it), and a total of TWO Longbow specific traits in the DH line, Hunter’s determination, and heavy light, which were not included in the list above. EVERY other trait than those 3 can be used with other weapons, or actually help a set of weapons (Pure of sight for ranged, and big game hunter for mutli-hit attacks for more specific examples.)

Honestly, after being gone from the game for a while, and going through the forums about these changes, I really feel like so much of the guardian community doesnt even LOOK at what we have and what we are getting together in a bigger picture. Everyone except a select few look at the specialization and see nothing but Longbow and traps, and doesn’t even seem to look and see what could be done using different combinations.

For traps, sure melee can use it, but doesn’t mean they will. You expect people want a guardian in a group for his traps? And not to mention, if a trap is planted as a bomb,i.e. during melee combat, they will tick slower.
And regarding dealing extra damage to cripple enemies, just how many of source of cripples do you have? Bulwark you asked? how many guardians wielding shields these days? and even if they do, how much is the bubble recharge vs. cripple uptime? and we don’t pop shield 5 just for the cripple while angering everyone else by scattering the mobs? "what about your allies cripple? " you said? are we required allies to get benefit from our trait now?
Funny you sorta gloss over Pure of Sight even though it’s a forced trait, of course you don’t have any argument for that, it’s a forced trait for range options, i.e. we just lost one right there. No, fixing sword#1 wouldnt work, sword range is 600, don’t tell me you are gona position yourself at exact 600. Big Game Hunter is admittedly universal for both ranged and melee, and by the look of it,, looks like it’s a must-pick out of the 3 GM traits, but that would just one. And I throw your own words back at you : "doesnt even LOOK at what we have and what we are getting together in a bigger picture. " It’s ironic that you preach about “bigger picture” while discusses each traits in severely situational usage, situational combat circumstance (need allies for cripples, popping shield for 4 second cripples?).

By the same token, why did necros and mesmer got sync for existing options when they already have more than that, and why couldn’t we? “we already have more than we need” you said ? you forget that by taking the DH lines, we only have 2 lines left for the “more than we need of that” you mentioned about. Sure, we got good amount in the existing lines, but we don’t get to pick most of them because one line is already for the DH.

The elite spec did different things for those professions, that’s why. I can’t see a reason to push for more melee/support options considering we have many and they are very good. If anything, I would like to see some more ranged support in the established lines so if you want ranged weapon, DH is not your meta.

You either didn’t read my arguments and assumed I meant what you think I meant or purposely avoided the merits of my arguments. I never said we didn’t have enough melee support, and I never said I ask for direct melee support. My point was with the DH lines lacking sync with existing traits (sword/staff/gs), thus if you chose the DH lines, you only have 2 lines left for defense + alt weapon tab. Necros and mesmers’ new specialization still interact well with their existing traitlines, for example aclarity has global bonus to other weapon choices. I would love that the DH line would offer some traits that can work with sword/staff/gs or shouts without buffing them directly.

it’s a nerf definitely, the “click-to-heal” becomes a “aim-then-click-to-heal-for-the-same-amount-and-less-allies”. This is a stealth one from Anet. Basically a nerf that is sugar-coated with some wing graphic. Out of the 3, we got jack. underwhelming right from the name.

The new mesmer and necro traitlines offer many syncs with existing traits and existing weapon options. Unfortunately, our new specialization is catered exclusively for longbow and lacking any meaningful syncs or support for our existing options. Namely, DH traits are for traps, foes that are beyond melee range and/or crippled. I doubt i personally would have any use for traps as a melee guard. While bow gets some sync from radiance and/or zeal, the alt weapon would feel lacking. Basically, once you pick DH, it would seem that you will spend most of the time with the longbow for best result and the alt weapon tab is like a mob-skipping or i’m-bored option. And just curious, what is your choice of alt weapon tab if you go longbow.

Deflecting shot - practical?

Description goes like this: “you can fire your Deflecting Shot in its path and, with the right timing, destroy all of your enemy’s projectiles along the way”

Here’s the key word: “with the right timing” . Are we Robin hood or what, stopping arrow mid-fight ? that’s some reflexes requirement! When I see an knockdown coming from a ranger from the side, yes i can perfectly compose myself, refraining from hitting a dodge button, switch target to him and locate where the deflecting arrow is and cast it, all in duration of an arrow flight!

Now I recalled the content of my nightmare last night: my Guardian will be a dragonhunter. Anet, really? I just don’t know what else to say. Did you just wake up one day and come up with that cheesy name out of all possible terms in english, latin or spanish? I really want to personally meet the guy that came up with that name. Just to see what he looks like. What next? warrior —→ witchdoctor?
