Dunno I got like 10 ectos from 5 or 6 rares 2 days ago, last night I got 0 ectos from 3 rares. RNG FTW!
Anet needs to make the spawn timer truly random.
BAM, problems solved.
Yeah since everyone will be camping it all the time, overflow will happen for everyone, great idea!
Seriously, you don’t see how making it random would be a gigantic problem? “Oh Jormag(haha puttin the screws to you pedants) is going to spawn SOMETIME today? Guess I’ll be camping Frostgorge for hours and hours…not fun but the best way to make money.”
Except that won’t happen exactly for the reason you said. It won’t be fun, but on top of hat not profitable any more. People are not going to camp something that they will not profit from.
Randomizing is the only solution to solve the overflow problem.
The Dragon events should be treated as special yet currently it is nothing but a throw away event.
Ok so they won’t profit from it, won’t camp it and then it’ll never get done? Why bother having the event if nobody will do it then? What if I actually have fun fighting the dragons and like doing it every day for that factor rather than just the phat lootz? Because I do enjoy doing the dragons every day beyond the loot and WILL camp Frostgorge because I have fun doing the fight even if the camping is boring.
I mean, how does this actually make things BETTER rather than just more annoying?
Nope, it’s awesome, at least in PvE. GS/Staff melts pretty much anything and will be even better once they fix iZerker again…
I have a Charr Mesmer and it’s friggen sweet. Fury and 2 free might stacks every 35 seconds? Yes please!

Same problem in Diessa, I’m just going to wait for another server reset and hope the right one shows up.
Going to speculate a bit here: I wouldn’t be surprised if they put toughness on the aggro table like that to encourage dodging over just loading up on ac and face tanking everything. The devs certainly seem to love the dodge mechanic, and I can’t blame them because it is fun. Face tanking everything seems very counter to their philosophy.
Turning it off would be a heckuva good start. Better you screw over guests than screw over people ON THEIR OWN SERVER. That is so obvious it shouldnt really need to be stated..
I guess I should have stated this: Turning off guesting wouldn’t really help I don’t think. Seriously, next time you do an event in prime time see if you can find out how many guests there are. If it’s any more than 10-15 I"ll eat my hat.
I’m not saying you don’t have a right to complain, because it’s friggen annoying to not be able to do an event because of hitting overflow, but at least complain about the right thing: A.net, please up the max map population. This may very well actually be a case where “Throwing more hardware at it” really will help, if so, do it!
I mean why should for example shadow behemoth spawn in “regular” server but not in overflow?
Because overflow is a combination of players from many different servers. You have 1 overflow server for every x regular servers. Can’t synch the events from many different servers to the single overflow.

No, seriously, it’s not guesting that’s causing this, it’s mainly your own server population ACTUALLY DOING THE EVENTS. A lot of people didn’t do the world bosses at all before the chest drops were upped, because unless, like me, you actually have fun doing the boss fights, the loot was not worth it at all before. Now that it is, a lot more people are doing these events, especially during prime time. Think: When’s the last time you actually got LA overflow? I haven’t been kicked into it at all during prime time since this change, where as from the time I got the game in November until then I was in LA overflow every single time. Did all those people quit, or are they waiting for SB/Maw/Teq whatever now? Couple that with them lowering the people/area cap to fight the lag problem and it turns out to be not as simple as shutting off guesting.
Mind you, the guesting doesn’t help, especially during prime time fights. Turning off guesting, however, will end up screwing people with limited amounts of time to play because they won’t be able to do the boss battles they want to do. The people who are guesting aren’t doing it just to mess up your day, they’re doing it because they have 2 hours to play and Shatterer doesn’t spawn on their server for another 3 hours.
The solution is not as simple as shutting down guesting, it’s really a bandwidth/hardware and possibly general engine problem. Or I guess drop the loot back to where it was before, but then you’ve just got me and 20 other people doing them and they become almost wasted content again.
Disclaimer: I have never used the guesting feature for any reason whatsoever and do not plan on using it in the future.

I know it sucks that smaller guilds literally can’t unlock the guild missions.
There, fixed that for ya.
Here’s my problem with the whole Guild Mission Idea. It seems to have forgotten that SMALL GUILDS are a part of GW2. Many Guilds have 5 or less players and the new system pretty much excludes them from playing the new content. Well at least for years and years until we can earn 50,000 points to turn it on. And I pray to Dwayna that by then I’ll be playing GW3. So how about some content for THE SMALL GUILDS? There should be something for 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 people to do as a guild that could earn them something. All of the new content is for guilds that have massive players earning massive points and yes it does give them something to spend it on which is fine. But lets give the little guys something to do too.
This is the problem I have with comments like this, 5 people is a party not a guild.
Complaining because the new content is for larger than one party is silly you already have a stupid amount of dungeons.Guilds can go to 500 man in size, 5 member guilds are tiny guilds.
How about giving the larger guilds something to do, the guild missions are far to easy for any 100+ guild
So, once again(brought this up WAY back in the thread), even though I have a Guild screen, name, logo, all that jazz, since there are only 7 people in it it’s not a guild? Letting us get all that stuff must be a bug then, I guess.
How about the system is half baked right now, seems to only work for the guilds somewhere in the middle. It was pretty obvious to me as soon as it was announced that it’d be a problem on the low end, but it’s obviously a problem on the high end too. The drawing board must be revisited!

Yep got nothing from the champ Chief at the Maw yesterday, still bugged guys!
Two more starting yesterday or Sunday, no notification though.
There’s a underwater area in Frostgorge Sound that surrounds Honor of the Waves Ship that has a lot of jellyfish vets. When a daily has a vet achievement, i’ve often try to kill them and 99% of them time, when their hp is down to 1/3, they suddenly go invulnerable, start swimming away from me for a bit, fully heal then come back at me again. Meanwhile, I’m still locked in combat and cannot heal, while he gains full health. I can’t be bothered with them any more, but this is typical of u/water combat.
It happens on land as well but not as frequently. However, I must say these jellyfish are probably the worst i’ve encountered.
I think it’s a range issue with the jelleyfish, I’ve run into it too. Being in the water, especially a large area like that, you don’t realize it but you’re kiting them all around. Once you kite them out of their defined range, they go back to their area and regen all hp.
It’s a good analogy if some people like it. My wife likes it. I don’t particularly but it’s her kind of thing. She likes searching for stuff. There ARE clues in game, once you read stuff and look around. It’s like those very very old fashsioned adventure games where you had to find stuff. And people BOUGHT those games. Not me, because it wasn’t my thing, but my wife loves finding stuff. It becomes a challenge to her.
And it’s not quite a needle in a haystack. You do know the zone and you know the approximate place it spawns…ie, along the refugees trail.
Actually, no. The potential spawn locations for these items (which are randomly chosen for each server) are within the spawn locations for the Dredge/Flame Legion invasion events. They’re not along the refugee trail, many of these are far from it. And there are no clues beyond being told which zone they’re in.
Had their actually been clues, then it might have actually been cool. As it stands, it literally is just holding down CTRL while running around from one invasion event spawn to the next (because that’s about the only way you’re going to see it).
This.
Also I do have fun with current content, but it’s starting to be a downer when I’m either hardlocked from new content or it’s just “Run around while holding ctrl for an hour until you find this one spot and that’s the new content” type stuff.
This is a theme park MMO. Think of a theme park. You go to Disneyworld with your family. Some people want to ride Space Mountain and some people want to sit and watch the show in the Hall of Presidents. You pick the attractions you like and skip the ones you don’t.
Not a great analogy for this quest…I would never, ever give my money to go to Disney World/Land, so I’m not sure about this, but is the “Find the Needle in the Haystack” a popular attraction there? Like I said, never been, wouldn’t go, but I can’t see that being a big draw.
Oh man I was so glad I got the first 2 items on the first day when a commander was pointing them out, I felt bad for anyone who had to search for them after that. I really have no motivation to get the next two because, just like you said, running around 2 areas holding Ctrl for an hour+ is not in any way fun.
Mt Maelstrom JP dude, friggen beautiful there.
It seems like new content has gotten more people out since the last patch. Unfortunately, it’s made map chat HORRIBLE and I end up turning it off a lot:(
Seriously, as soon as they announced how the missions were going to work I saw the flaw in their plan. How they did not figure this out from the beginning is absolutely mystifying.
ArenaNet likes to iterate.
They like putting out a solid framework, then build out from there. We’ll see most of the rough edges of the game polished in due time. This is an MMO after all.
The framework for guild missions isn’t really that solid though. A far better idea would be to have a completely separate tree to work on for guild missions that could be built on and polished as time went on and wouldn’t hardlock people out of content.
Random spawning would only encourage camping of the spawn area.
No there totally is a maw, look above the shaman chief and you’ll see a crazy ice mouth thing opening…if you have time and aren’t lagged out, anyhow.
Personally, I have a lot of fun fighting the dragons, I don’t do it just for the loot. The dragons look cool, the preevents are fun and the event itself is fun to me. If I was just doing it for loot, I would have given up fighting them long before the patch gave the chests decent drops.
SO counterpoint to OP’s suggestion: Dungeons mobs shouldn’t drop loot. You’re just running it to grind tokens to get pretty pretty dressup clothes, right? So why do you care about the hp sponge/loot pinata that are any and all of the mobs in the dungeon?
Most of the stuff about fractals you said were untrue
If they’re anything like dungeons, what he said is exactly right.
I’ve been trying to completely forget about guild missions since my guild is hardlocked from them, but the bounty hunt missions have caused a new problem: Map chat spam by people looking for/reporting sitings of bounties. So now I have a constant reminder of content I can’t access, beautiful…
Best thing about the JORMAG event is how calling CoJ JORMAG gets some peoples panties all in a gigantic knot.
Weaksauce, OP, maybe tonight heh

Polymock is coming. The entrance to it in Rata Sum was barely there when I started playing in November, now there’s an actual gate that’s being worked on.
These dailies are awesome, and so is the new monthly. That’s what’s with them.
Thankfully I got them both the day of the patch when a Commander was standing on them, I’m really glad I don’t have to search for them now.
They do have to be masterwork though, not all the lowest tier are.
You just need to make 40 lv 50 insignias, you don’t have to make the entire piece of armor. Embroidered jute ones, I believe.
I’m willing to trade you guys all my engineer downed state abilities.
:)
Exactly what I was going to say. After 300 hours on an engy having down state powers that actually DO something is great!
Seems to be a theme in games these days, Diablo 3 has(had? haven’t played it in a while) the exact same problems. Give me more numbers, more details, not less!
learn to dodge
its what the combat is about; mobility and dodging. avoiding attacks, interrupting them, aegis them.
thats how you play the game.
its not final fantasy.but a lot of people play it this way..
anyway, i remember i was a “not so good player” but after 400h i can say i quite rock with my guardian!
Not sure how you can dodge something that you can’t see coming or aoe fields that don’t actually render, but hey, l2p fixes everything I guess!
Well wvw isn’t my bag, but I tried it the other day and ended up with 23 kills and 3-4 deaths in a half hour or so. iZerker mows down small groups awesomely.
So yeah, if a completely inexperienced wvw player can do that well, I’d say they’re pretty good for wvw.
Ascended gear is a ripoff, give me some real stat progression I’m not grinding for like 7 points on the top stat and 3 on the two lower ones. The only thing laurels are useful for are stacks of unident dyes atm.
So no, I don’t have that problem. OP it sounds like you’re treating GW2 as a job and I"d recommend playing a different game, at least for a while.
I agree, except for the real stat progression part of course.
Sorry I worded that wrong: I’m not grinding for stat progression if it’s not worthwhile stat progression. Ascended items are not worthwhile stat progression and not worth feeling like you have to grind your daily for them.
Also, OP, check out the monthly this month. I just finished it yesterday, it’s an easy 10 laurels.
I still think it’s fun, but then again I’m using a Mesmer at the moment…if I had any kind of a tanky class I’d be kitten at the one shot move they do now.
The lousy part is I feel like I’m getting less loot now than I used to because I can’t tag as many mobs.

+1 OP, especially the dungeons. Dungeons require no skill, just memorization, like the highest level of Guitar Hero. I know games have been trying to pass memorization off as skill/fun for a long time now, but it’s really starting to grind my gears.
The OP said his group can’t even complete the easiest of dungeons in this game. Your post seems like you’re praising him for calling it easy.
Skill and Memorization are two different things. Just like PvP takes memorization of your own skills and other class abilities. To say that all dungeons take no skill is so silly. Even if you yourself find it extremely easy to do something in a hard dungeon, it’s still a skill.
AC Path 2 final boss for instance, you literally can’t kill him if you don’t have skills in coordination.
Dunno, I’ve done two dungeon runs and both of them seemed to be completely dependent on “Ok run past this guy into this corner until he loses aggro, run into this corner and dodge at the exact right time into this corner to avoid his aoe…oh you can’t go forward there you have to stop and do this from here and oh here’s this new mechanic that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the game oh and now you’re dead have fun laying there for 10 minutes”
That’s memorizing exactly where everything is and how to beat it. Not fun, not skill, memorization. Not to mention the rewards are completely cosmetic so there’s really no good reason to do it at all…though I do have to say I came out like 50s ahead the last time I did a dungeon run plus a lodestone of some kind that I’ll probably never use so I have that to sell. Still, making that 2g or whatever is more fun in the overworld.

If people are not having fun in WVW, you’re doing it wrong.
Oh sorry sir, please educate me as to how to spend my free time correctly! I will take detailed notes on what I should find entertainment in and endeavor to implement any suggestions post haste!
Yes, because I was addressing you specifically.
However, now that you mention it…
“There are a lot of places where this game sacrifices fun to prevent some kind of adverse effect. Sacrificing fun for any reason in a game is always a bad design decision and indicative of a quick fix mentality.
Fortunately, regular overworld pve is not one of those places:)”I have no idea how you reached that conclusion, but it sure is RIDICULOUS.
No really, overworld pve isn’t a place where fun is sacrificed to prevent an adverse effect. Not sure how you can dispute that.

It does take forever to get anywhere
There’s one point I forgot: I tried wvw for the first time the other day when one of the commanders asked for help since both teams were invading our borderlands. I was really disappointed by how much time was spent running around the map vs. time spent actually doing anything. Even if I liked pvp, I think just the sheer lack of wp’s in the wvw maps is a real turnoff.
That’s understandable. It’s to prevent one side from res-rushing.

Nope sorry, random spawning will just lead to mass camping of dragon spawn points and even more just leaving alts sitting there behavior. WvW isn’t that fun and I personally think the dragon fights as they are are actually fun…well if they could fix the whole lag thing that was suddenly introduced anyhow.
on any server.
1.) what made you choose and stay on the server you’re on?(guilds and friends aren’t a valid reason since transfers were free for four months)
2.) what will it take for the wvw players to get you into wvw?
3.) wvw benefits your dungeon runs, do you not agree that helping us get the buffs you benefit from is the right thing to do?
4.)is it the repair bill that scares you out?(i know pve players with upwards of 200g, so the fact that they’re scared of a 10s repair bill is confusing)
5.) why would a risen priestess of milandru be impressed with your Sunrise?
6.) to my GOM bros specifically, some of the PvE guilds on our server are upwards of 300+(and active), can you grasp how much of a difference just 1/10 of your guild members would make if they were active in wvw daily?
k, gripe over.
1: My friends were on it
2: Making it a non pvp experience.
3: Running dungeons is not fun
4: Nope, lack of fun
5: Whosawhatnow? I have no Sunrise and think the Legendary grind is stupid, no interest in playing dressup thanks.
6: I’m on GoM and my guild is 6 people, some of them do wvw
Sorry, I’d love to help you guys but I have no interest whatsoever in any kind of pvp. Been playing online games since the days of the MUDs and pvp has never been fun for me.
Actually I managed my playtime around dragon events BEFORE the change. After the change it’s a bit less fun because I find myself with times when I’m getting bored of exploring and have no good reason to run events I’ve already run that day.
So, yay better loot but boo less fun I guess?
Well, I’m still kinda disappointed that my guild will take 8-10 months to even unlock AoW lv 5, but since these missions sounds pretty boring anyhow maybe it’s not such a bad thing…in 8-10 months hopefully things will be fixed:)
