  • Players get to duel uninterrupted anywhere they want.

Are you sure? Are you absolutely sure they won’t be interrupted by other players or mobs?

They can’t get interrupted by players because players can’t do anything about it. If duelers get interrupted by mobs, then that’s okay.

Are we still BS around the risk reward crap. You always cancel out of it, and it never hits anyone for any significant damage, there is literally NO risk and NO reward involved. That is not risk/reward, thats is a NONSKILL, might as well have a blank spot there.

If you think there is no risk, then there is no reason for you to care.

Yes there is because there is no reward either, might as well just give me 4 skills with GS for all this does.

Yeah, HB does very low dps, thats why warriors don’t use it in dungeon runs.

If you cared to read this is a pvp oriented thread, pve conrflake comps dont need balancing.

If you cared to read my post. You would know that warrior uses HB for a reason.

Yes, i do use it in dungeos, same as blurred frenzy or the axe from the ranger, the reason is quite simple. AI is stupid enough to stand its full length on the same place. Some people here seem to be as competent as AI.

Why else would you use HB, Blurred Frenzy, or whirling defense?

Because i like the weapon? and i dont know i have this thing where i get miffed if im playing with 4 skills and everyone else has 5?.

Okay, I give up. Good luck on getting ANet to comply with your complaint.

You can simplify your belief in how technically “easy” it would be to add this, but that does not change the fact that SOMETHING gets sacrificed somewhere for this to get put in the game.

Then I say ANet should add it because it is worth the ‘sacrifice.’

Also, it would be so much less about how to do it as to WHAT it would do to the game in terms of effecting every player in every zone of the game. I get some of you think it’s no big deal, but I assure you there are players that would simply quit the moment this went live to avoid the potential conflict. Anet 100% knows this (and that’s why it will NEVER happen).

What will happen is that:

  • Players get to duel uninterrupted anywhere they want.
  • And that is it.

PLEASE LOWER THE DROP RATES OF GREEN AND BLUE!

Instead, add more valuable gray items and more salvage bundles.

  • Let me save inventory space. I need it for switching gears.
  • Make crafted gear be more valuable.
  • Make it more easy to salvage and sell everything.
  • Let blue and green gear as drops be something to be happy about.

based on their utility, you will probably never be happy about blues and greens.

My personal views are:
- Stability is okay
- Blind stomping is legit.
- Stealth stomping is fine, you can cc around a downed ally. HOWEVER, I do feel like initiating stomps/finishing stomps on a stealthed person should work, so long as you can find them in stealth just like other attacks. (Would probably require an updated thief downed skill to be fair)

However
- Invuln Stomping is not okay in my opinion~ as it offers absolutely 0 counterplay. Long cooldown or not, its just too safe.

That’s my unbiased view on it all. (I play necromancer, I basically can’t do anything cool to stomp people, so take it for what it is. :P )

Is there a mechanic in this game that you don’t think is OP? If you want to mash 1 and 2 to win, I’m sure there is an arcade in your nearest city, with a Streetfighter style game.

Excuse me? Did you even read what I said? I rarely ever say anything is OP. I said one thing is poor gaming because it has (next to) no real counter play. I prefer counter play to my immunity easy stomps. Sorry about that?

Sometimes I wonder if each skill’s mobility is related to which ANet staffer created the animation cycles.

The mobility is a huge part of what makes combat so special when compared to other MMO’s.

Guardian gs is more mobile than warrior gs? LOL!

GW2 is very close to being a pure action game. Are you really asking how action based games can be challenging? GW2 is all about active abilities: dodge, blocks, invuln, blind etc. Challenging content should then test the players on their responsiveness. GW2 needs more encounters with multiple enemies during boss fights, and phased bosses that show different behavior during different phases. Lupicus and Grawl are good examples, but they could do more to fully make it feel necessary to have a competent group and not just one or two decent players in a party of 5. An encounter like Lupicus, but with sidebosses spawning during each phases would do a lot for the game.

Holy trinity games are not challenging, they’re more like puzzles, and once the “puzzle” has been solved (the right rotation and party setup) it turns into a banal routine.

No, I’m asking how GW2 can be challenging.

The ammount of cc and/or immob needed for them to work just makes most of the self rooting melee skills useless.

Hence, High skill and high reward.

gs warrior completely useless anyone can dodge 100blades. If you plan wasting utilities to cc the enemy they still can just stun break and walk away.

GS warrior does extremely high damage. Wasting utilties to CC the enemies is what should happen.

churning earth takes so long to cast that you will never land that in a 1v1 if the enemy knows how to dodge.

Churning Earth has a Cripple pulse. It also have a big AoE ring. Which means it is intended for team fights, not 1v1. Not every skill has to work for 1v1 situation.

The few self root skills that work are the ones that have inherent stun or immob in the same skill or weapon set. Like pistol whip that comes with a stun and blurred frenzy that has the immob in the same weapon, making combos easy.

It also come with a cost. The fact that you become a sitting duck. Players can focus fire on you.

When was the last time you landed a complete 100blades in anything other than a pve boss that sits and eat the dmg?

The GS/Longbow Warrior build is a viable build. I played a bit and I was able to get a lot of HB down on enemies. Opening with Bull’s Rush + Hundred blades allow me to get a high burst damage on the enemies. I can also use HB on downed enemies to make their hp go down and also get the resser’s hp down. If the enemies dodge out of the way, it isn’t a big deal, HB cd is only 8-10 seconds.

But to answer your question, the last time I landed a complete 100blades was 3 hours ago when I was playing with the GS/LB build.

It is not ‘’high skill high rewared’’. It is actually impossible to land a complete 100blades in a 1v1 vs any decent player and the reward is not that great. If it was only a player skill issue then we would see people using GS on tournaments, which is not the case.

If a player take full 100blades dmg that is because they are completly noobs. In a hotjoin MM works, does not mean it will work when facing a competent player.

And about gs/lb, it is not viable. No one is using it in tournaments because it is several times worse than a shoutbow or the old hambow.

You might as well say, it is actually impossible to land anything worthwhile in a 1v1 vs any decent player. If you want to pull the “Skillz players can dodge dis!” card

I fought someone that dodged all my most important d/d ele attacks because he was simply more skilled than me even if my skills are not self-rooted.

But yeah, GS/LB isn’t meta. But what you are wrong is that GS/LB doesn’t need a buff, it is that cele stuff needs a nerf.

Wait there. Now you want to compare a self root skill that has a 3.5s to cast with all the other skills in the game? A player walking is able to avoid most part of 100blades. Also the biggest hit at the end makes it even worse.

Not really. You scaled the enemy skill level to be higher than the player. I can do that too. Thus, your “skilledz player can dodge dis!!!” is irrelevant.

I disagree.

Self rooting melee skills is for the high risk and high reward which is needed for skill based games.

The problem is in a game where you can move while using nearly every ability and everyone has a regularly available dodge mechanic, there is never any chance of ‘reward’ with these skills. That isn’t true in most games, there are tons of channels and self-rooted skills and most classes have no evasion, especially among the squishier magic themed classes, but none of that is true in GW2. And because of that, for those few rooted skills there are, unless you manage to find a completely immobilized opponent, they are basically empty slots.

For example, I faced a celestial DD elementalist in PvP a few days ago, I think I must have kittened her off by beating her in a duel over mid at the start of the game, because she was gunning for me for the entire remainder of the match.

But man, it was sad, she invested so much in to hitting with RTL>Updraft and Churning Earth>Lightning strike, we must have fought several dozen times over the duration of the game, she just kept coming after me, whether solo or in a group. And she never hit me once with either combo, used them at least a couple times each fight. And I’m really not that good of a player, 40ish percent win rate, Dolyak rank, and I play the suckiest builds because they’re fun. That game for example I played a SF build with clerics and max uptime on weakness and chill.

There is a chance.

When you see the enemy dodge twice and know that the enemy had popped up his utilities earlier. That is when you get that chance.

So if your opponent blows all of his defensive skills at the same, and you have a very long duration lockdown setup, that you, conveniently, have not used in a long enough fight for your opponent to have blown all his CDs and both dodges, then you can actually hit with these skills?

Seriously? Does anybody ever see that happening against an opponent that would be even slightly challenging in the first place? Your ‘chance’ isn’t really chance to use the skill, it is a chance to face an opponent of significantly lesser skill, in which case most anything should do and you these skills still are not optimal.

And what on earth would the output of such a skill have to be to be for either that chance (because there is no guarantee those circumstances will ever be met) or that setup to be worth it? We’re not talking about playing Wrath of God here and wiping the board, most of the skills in question are just higher than average damage as compared to any group of skills you can use in the same timeframe, except you can use those while staying in range of your opponent.

To pressure, I use the F1 Longbow to pressure the enemy into moving away. Then I use some longbow skills and then when I think the enemy won’t dodge the pin down, I use it. Thats when I use Rush + Hundred blades or just hundred blades if I am close already. Pin down is 25 sec, HB is 10 sec, Rush is 15 sec. Very cheap in cost. Bull’s rush is reserved for that opening or it can be used for emergency escape.

Also, GW2 is a team game. GS/LB role is the same as D/P thief without stealth. When the enemy is busy with my teammate, I gank them down.

GS/LB and D/P Both have great mobility, great damage. Except, D/P has teleports and stealth. So I guess thats why GS/LB isn’t meta. Because D/P has a superior gank role.

No we don’t have soft trinity, we have all zerker.

it would be cool if you would stop telling other people “thats bs” “all zerk” “other builds not viable” when your game knowledge and understanding is abysmal?

watch it and learn.

Really ? Dude just because they are there does not mean they are viable, zerkers are the most efficient and rewarding way to play the game , you might be able to ru n dungeon with other build, but zerker will do it much faster and easier.

Sorry, but Towelliee is wrong. Trinity would have made GW2 a cookie cutter MMO

It would be a cookie cutter MMO, but it would appeal to more players. You are right about it would be cookie cutter, but it would be more popular and possibly kill WOW. That’s also Towelliee’s point, it might not be a better game, but it would be more popular.

Yea, Wildstar is a popular WoW killer. Oh wait.

Wildstar did not fail because of Holy Trinity, they done a lot of things wrong and caused the game to fail, but it’s not because of holy trinity. Just to clarify.

Then all it is that the Holy Trinity or lack thereof is not the deciding factor of a game success.

Oh wait.

My perception was that GW2 needs less false choice, not creating more.

I’ll be using Sinister, Dire, and Nomad. I hardly see them as false choices.

An alternative I want is the ability to queue in dungeons anywhere in the world and instantly join a friend anywhere in the world without paying the RNG box.

Guild missions happen randomly everywhere in the world.

Self rooting MELEE skills need to go.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

runeblade.7514

Self rooting melee skills is for the high risk and high reward which is needed for skill based games.

A post about the Toughness stat.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

runeblade.7514

My idea for the toughness/vitality stat: Create Elite mobs

  • Elite mobs have high attack speed, and does a lot of damage to players with low toughness. They are anti-zerker, anti-dps mobs.
  • The tank(player with high toughness or vitality) takes the elite mob and distract the mob. While the other players fight the other mobs.
  • Elite mobs still have devastating attack that may instagib the player with high toughness if he doesn’t dodge.
  • If the party defeats the mobs, the elite mob loses its potency. It cannot do high damage against low toughness players anymore.
  • Condi mobs are the same except against vitality stat.
  • This suggestion wouldn’t work by itself. It needs the fight against the other mob to be challenging and make stacking useless. I made a list of suggestion for that.

Dueling?

runeblade.7514

I would hope so. The sooner anet adds dueling, the sooner I can stop wasting a slot in wvw and actually have my preferred method of enjoying this game.

While I would like a map dedicated for dueling, I’m sure the player base is creative enough to choose a map (make use of mega servers) if we are given the option to just right click a player and challenge them to a duel. It’s a very simple feature so it astonishes me that this game is almost 3 years old without it.

Some people are afraid that they could get a duel request.

The only way to remove the stacking meta is for ANet to research why 5 players don’t stack in PvP with their full zerker gear.

No, he wouldn’t get killed.

He joins a team -> kill your friend because you brought his hp down very low -> Then you decide to switch team -> He is already in spectator mode by the time you run to the place where he last killed your friend -> you switch team to start the duel again. -> Repeat griefing.

And that brings us back to page 2 of this thread (or somewhere around there), that gear doesn’t matter, cause PvE is supereasy.

As opposed to sPVP where you’re rewarded for failing…

I’d love some elaboration on this.

or WvW where you’re rewarded for gathering in a giant blob or not at all.

Blobbing up is a way to play, yes, but there are different types of gameplay styles in WvW. Some require more skill than others, and are way more effective than blobbing. Generally the unskilled or people not really wanting to put in effort blob up. I recommend trying roaming.

Sure, PVE is pretty easy if you’re just trying to complete it, but at least you have to be successful and in dungeons/fractals your contribution matters has a pretty large impact. In general i think it would be fair to say that GW2 is supereasy.

Uhm… aren’t dungeons stack in the corner mash 1? With like little to no chance of dying, ever? Or glitching through stuff, or skipping half the dungeon with invis, or always going for the cheap-o semi-exploits (eg.: lupicus half health gone with 1 reflect)? I do not want to offend dungeon running people or anything, but “knowledge” mostly boils down to 1 guy saying “stack here”.

As for Fractals, I guess some may find those difficult, I don’t really. And I’m a guy who has been resetted from lv 58 to 30 and went back up to 50 again.

Which is easier, stacking in a corner pressing 1 or playing a turret engineer in pvp and afk while raking in the wins?… See I can nitpick a certain part about a game mode and make it sound skilless too.

Stacking in a corner.

Turret engi are extremely easy to kill.

If it was an error or something they intended on changing, a statement about such would have been made at some point. Thus, I have to assume it’s either intended or a case of “eh, we’re not gonna change it anyway”.

I can make the same statement for every other thread in the bugs subforum.

lol, ok. I’m done here.

Good because I need an ANet dev to fix this bug, I don’t need someone unaffiliated with ANet to claim that it isn’t a bug.

If you don’t want any player or “someone unaffiliated with ANet” getting involved with your “issue” or answering your questions, contact support directly instead posting on forums :P Forums are meant for everyone to help everyone. Also, if it’s indeed intended I believe you would hardly get any answer from devs here.

I thought this is the bug subforum. The description of the forum says, “Bug Reports go here.”
