stupid engi turrets

buddy it’s easy to counter, ya’ just gotta use that brain.

Can you explain your tactics against a turret engie on a point please? I’m a shatter mesmer and I can only get the ones that really suck. Thumper turret is a pain, I know I shouldn’t tried to beat it on the point but when there is more than one turret engie in a team I don’t see what I should do other than try to beat it.

Thanks

Medi guardian blows turret up easily. Even if engi spread those turrets, engi die very easily against medi guards.

Many power builds that are good at keeping pressure can kill the engi. Engi has zero blocks or invulnerability. It is simply a dps race between you and the turret.

Allowing rangers to wear thief armor and thieves to wear ranger armor completely defeats the purpose of what the OP is suggesting.

Good. I don’t like his purpose.

I really like the idea of class-specific armor and I actually wanted to post this idea on the forum as well. I would love to see at least 1 of 2 armor sets unique for each class, which of course can only be worn by the class it’s designed for.

No. If you want your ranger look like a ranger, then make your ranger look like a ranger. Making it unique doesn’t add anything to you, It only takes away from me.

Making it profession-specific:

You: I can make my ranger look like a ranger!
Me: I can’t use that awesome shoulder armor that looks good on my engineer!

Ignoring the nonsense:

You: I can make my ranger look like a ranger!
Me: I can use that awesome shoulder armor that looks good on my engineer!

By ignoring this nonsense suggestion, everyone is happy.

A thief being unable to wear a ranger’kitten doesn’t make sense unless it’s some weird Cthulhu-esque living armor that has a mind of its own and silently judges people’s life choices.

Okay, that, I would actually love^^
Fine, it’d get annoying faster than that stupid Hoho-Tron backpiece, but I suppose it would be fun for about ten minutes to have your armour “tsk” quietly every time you kill someone from stealth, or complain about making a mess for other people when you hack someone’s head off with your axe…

darkm, from your posts, I assume your problem is not that you can’t dress your toon the way you want, but that other people aren’t dressing their toons the way you want. Seriously? “I want rangers to look different from thieves and that includes other people’s thieves and rangers because my opinion matters most!” is… not a good thing to bring up in your favour. Would that armour have any advantages for your profession? Or would it be purely cosmetic, in that it forces a certain look upon the player, even if that player would like to dress their character in another style? The way you phrase your arguments, it means that you demand to judge what a thief should look like, what a warrior should look like, what a necromancer should look like, and that just doesn’t work. My asura necromancer runs around in white and purple. She looks like a mesmer. You’d probably hate that, since you can’t tell whether she’s a necro or a mesmer without clicking on her, but for me, it’s the way she’d dress if she were real. Same with my human necromancer, who wears dark blues with icy blue/white contrast colours, because that’s what she would wear if she were real. Likewise, I have seen plenty of guardians looking like classic barbarian warriors, and warriors looking like a model guardian. No way to tell if they both have a greatsword equipped, or sword/shield, or any kind of weapon the other class can equip as well. Doesn’t seem to bother most players.
There is no “uniform” for the classes, and that’s a good thing. You claim that all characters look the same, but in reality, there are so many options to mix and match that the actual variety is huge (even though I personally think it’s still nowhere near big enough^^). After about level 10, when people start their stories and collect new armour, very few characters even look similar, let alone the same. Restricting certain armour sets to certain classes would actually limit a player’s options of combining pieces of those sets with others to create a unique look.

QFT, This can’t be said any better.

No sense in a ranger running around decked out like an engineer, or a mesmer wearing a necromancer’s garb.

Then why are you running around with Engineer garb or necromancer’s garb? Make your character look like a Ranger or Mesmer.

It’s not “needlessly” restrictive, it just makes sense.

Wrong, it is needlessly restrictive.

A Ranger’s shoulder armor could looks good and make “sense” on my Thief. This profession specific nonsense is needlessly restricting me from getting that shoulder armor.

Best way to get good in PvP?

Play all professions. Ignore the ones that says, pick a class of interest. Go test all the professions. PvP is about knowing what your enemies will do. Then you dodge and make all their attacks worthless. It is about knowing when to strike, how to force that to happen. Meaning, as a D/P thief, you want to stealth all day so that the enemy panic and uses all skills on cooldown. Then thats when you strike. The only way you know what skills are on cooldown is that you play that profession yourself.

Professions armor are there already but any other one can wear them, people that played GW1 can recognize them ( for example: masks = mesmer related armor, forehead emblems = elementalist related armor ) BUT PLEASE bring back those good old super fashion male mesmer armors

This.

This is how Guild Wars 2 should approach profession specific armor and stay as that way.

All armor in GW1 was profession specific. I liked it, because you knew who was what. There wasn’t a problem of all warriors looking the same because there were several sets of armor you could mix and match. This is essentially what I want, 3 or more sets of armor per profession that are specific to that profession. It doesn’t have to be a hard grindfest to get, it could be as easy as visiting your trainer and picking it up for similar prices as the race armor. You could mix and match to make your own look AND represent your profession.

So what happens when the enemy team does not use profession specific armor even when nonsense like this is added? Do you still get confused? GW1 profession specific armor works because it was heavily restricted. You are suggesting only 3 sets of armor for each profession. I can wear Barbarian armor to make you very confused on which profession I am playing as.

You shouldn’t have the attitude of “I want EVERYTHING IN THE GAME on one character,” because that’s never going to happen. If that’s the only argument you have, you might as well demand to have every profession and armor class available on one character too. That will never happen, and I pray it never happens because it would essentially kill the replayability of the game. There would be no incentive to make a new character, no benefit or reason whatsoever.

Strawman argument.

We are not arguing for every profession on one character. We are arguing against profession specific armor which is needlessly restrictive.

Pretty sure condi rangers are the best 1v1ers in the game…
A condi ranger will beat both an engi and ele of equal skill level.

Engineer, maybe. But not Ele.

If the answer is no. Then I say NO to your suggestion.

The answer is no because it would be PROFESSION SPECIFIC.
If you have a thief and a ranger both, why would you be upset that you can’t have both sets on one character? You might as well demand the ability to use every weapon in the game, too, because it’s nearly the same thing.

I do want to use every weapons, but it is not the same thing.

Weapon sets in this game affects the game combat system. Armor does not.

If the answer is no. Then I say NO to your suggestion.

Whyever not? We have race-specific armor, and I think that’s wonderful. I wish we had more of it. Class-specific armor would just be another way to make sure your character doesn’t look like every other character out there, especially now that the wardrobe lets classes use each others’ starter gear. (Granted, the wraith mask looks AWESOME on my Mesmer….)

At some point, a little class/race exclusivity adds flavor and makes things unique.

Because I don’t want ANet waste dev time restricting customization so that a few player could few unique.

I want more pieces so I can create my own unique look.

Class-specific armor would just be another way to make sure your character doesn’t look like every other character out there

Wrong. Class specific armor makes you look like every other profession. e.g All mesmer will look the same as other mesmers.

If you’re afraid of looking like other players. Make your own unique look! No one is forcing you to use T3 armor.

Invis in gw2 doesnt really do anything besides let a player take a breather.

Warrior has Invul to damage/condis
Ele has many types of full Invuls
Ranger again and Invul
Mesmer/Thief can stealth/evade
Necro has 2 health pools
Engi has MANY tools/tricks, blocks/invul/invis (but all short and spread out)
Guard has many blocks and an Invul

IMO stealth is the least of the problems, Invul while doing damage imo is worst, a Warrior Poping 2 stances with take 0 damage and not able to add condis for 4-6sec While attacking you.

What does stealth do again??? Oh… lets you walk away and get 1 free unseen attack.. that still can be blocked/stop while you still get get hit……

Invulnerability usually have 40+ second cd.

Thief can stealth again very easily after a 4 second reveal.

And using initiative that could otherwise be used for dodging (if s/d) or blinding (if d/p) an attack.

Backstab cost 0 initiative.

And stealthing as d/p costs you 2 skills that both use initiative.

And when you do not attack, you can regen all your initiative back easily.

Also open dueling in hotm lobby should b added, Pratice with friends or guildie is much more better than with those npc. As for custom arena… Seriously who want to spend that much gold for a limited time thing

I can’t see how it will effect open world events.

If done right, it would do nothing. Let say a dueling is done in a event, if they accidentally attack a mob, it would help complete the event. Now, if a dueler has a way to grief a event, it would be no different than an afker griefing an event.

"Suggestion" GW2 Dueling updated

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: runeblade.7514

runeblade.7514

[-] Arguments against:

  • GW2 is not that other game. Dueling in GW2 is like that eternal fight between a whale and an elephant, because GW2 was designed with class synergy in mind: different classes with different damage, control and utility skills, combo fields, AoE sharing (and stripping) boons and conditions. That’s why PvP has the 5v5 structure, and the objective is to hold points, and not kill each other. I don’t see how this relevant to dueling at all.
  • Since dueling is not a supported game mode, it is natural that the available method to duel (custom arena) has inconveniences. Which should be a pro-dueling argument.
  • Your gear stats will be normalized, as the design behind GW2 says that sports-like competition is about skills and not credit cards. Then they would remove WvW. Dueling is no different than WvW roaming and finding another WvW roamer.
  • No matter how you hide it through options, people will always find a way to annoy you in say chat, map chat and even whispers (like they do in WvW). The best way to prevent this is not to have dueling at all. So far, my waiting and declining duels in Goldshire and other MMORPG says this is wrong. It might be a thing in the past, or a overexaggerated experience.
  • Dueling would cause either a class balance disaster or a community disaster. There are already more than enough community complaints about mesmers and thiefs which caused them to be nerfed so hard because of PvP that playing in PvE became meh, and making it even worse because of a game mode which wasn’t designed to exist in the first place would feel wrong for players maining these classes. People complain no matter what. If useless complaints matters, then ANet would add nothing. People will complain even if a feature is downright beneficial.
  • People who duel have a negative attitude towards everyone else. We do not want to see dueling in a PvE environment as it will bring uneasiness and unsafety, which contradicts the philosophy of GW2’s PvE. So far, my waiting and declining duels in Goldshire and other MMORPG says this is wrong.

YMMV.

Those PvP fellows who get banned occasionally do not think they’re “rude” either.

I spent many days, idling around goldshire, which people recommended me where the hostile duelers are, so I was there waiting and declining duels. Still no hostile duelers. I did not get a single rude message or “you’re so scared.” Instead, they moved on. Sometimes, I eventually sent duel requests. Sometimes I win, and they said gg and moved on. I never heard a single rude remark from them whenever I win or lose.

“Obnoxious aggressive teenagers that demands to duel with you no matter what” is probably a thing in the past. Or it is a very rare event in the first place, and people over-exaggerated on how dreadful it is.

My mileage may vary, but I went very far to find out if I could be wrong. So far, I couldn’t prove myself wrong.

Dueling has been suggested numerous times by numerous people. It has met stiff resistance from a portion of the population.

Those who want it can’t understand why anyone would be against it or how it would affect them. Those who don’t want it feel it will negatively affect their experience and they don’t want it.

I personally don’t want it and would prefer open world dueling never be added.

I’m in this camp, though I’d be totally fine with there being some sort of duel area in the spvp lobby zone, or some specific map for it, or some gemstore-bought access key to such a map or what have you.

Just not open world dueling. Do Not Want.

Answer 3: No deathmatch. Instead, King of the Hill with no respawn, the entire map is the objective. If a thief stealth forever, he loses the match because he didn’t fight. If the thief stays in combat, the bar will decay into neutral over time, while not stealthed, even if the other player isn’t stealthed. Balanced so that legit thief can fight forever while troll thief will lose the match.

Basically, It is Deathmatch but with King of the Hill as an anti-troll measure.

Any but Asura.

  • Charr- Rytlock is the first Revenant.
  • Norn- They talk about Legends all the time.
  • Humans- their ancestors were there to experience GW1.
  • Sylvari- Because dream stuff.

Blue, green loot should be more rare. I want them as rare as yellow loot.

Instead, I want more gray loot. More variety of gray loot and more expensive gray loot. One gray loot could be sold for 2 silver. Also, reduce crafting mat cost too.

Why?

  • I can sell them to the vendor much more easily.
  • I can make a profit of selling crafted weapons/armors to players because there is low free supply of looted weapons and armor.
  • I don’t have to get RSI from salvaging items.
  • I don’t get RSI from consuming essences.
  • Leather mats become profitable.
  • Getting Blue and Green loot becomes cool.

Only thing I want from Gemstore is an Infinite Transmutation Stone… and what RoyalPredator.9163 posted.

Let me tell you what ANet would do with the Infinite Transmutation stone. They would put it in the RNG box. and I don’t want the RNG box anymore.

@ runeblade.7514: Would be better if they actualy place interact-able seats/chairs/pillows on society hubs when they finaly redesign them to really look and function like where people used to be. Anyway, you’re right, this would be a good seller for them, yet I hope they’ll do what I just wrote.

How about a basic chair intractable is free, but then in order to get a different chair design when sitting or when you type /sit, you have to pay.

[…]Basically, unstrippable condi.

Hexes could be stripped with hex removal.

The ones that could not be stripped were effects from signets and skills with no type.

Examples from that in GW2 would be Polymorph, Signet of Vampirism and Timed Charge’s effects on enemies.

Guild Wars 2 don’t have hex removal. Hence, unstrippable, unless you want players to put all utilities as hex and condi removal so that they can survive. Which is what I don’t want as a consequence anywhere in this game.

If you propose that condi removal removes hexes too, then all it is going to do is clutter the UI more. Therefore, a bad idea.

Lol, wrong.

I put my warriors on the shelf while I play other classes because of how bad they are.

A cash cow idea:

Chairs and Beds.

ANet can sell chair and beds in the gemstore. Whenever we sit or click on a chair, we sit on a chair we bought in the gemstore. Same thing with beds.

[Suggestion]WvW additions

in WvW

runeblade.7514

I have a couple suggestions:

  • Add more PvE dynamic events in WvW when population is low.
  • Towers no longer give out points/or the points are nerfed. Sentries now give ppts.

My first suggestion, Add more PvE dynamic events in WvW when population is low.

The purpose of adding PvE dynamic events is so that WvW won’t be boring when there is no one to fight. It also gives the feel of Open world PvP from other MMORPG. But, when there is more players, these PvE DE may cause lag. These dynamic events will end when completed and will not return until the population of players is low enough. It will not interrupt zerg vs zerg actions because the dynamic events will not appear during that time.

They are not the kill 30 skritts. These PvE DE in WvW tells a narrative just like in the PvE world. Meaning, there is a story behind the event. Each and every single one of these can be completed by a single player.

These dynamic events can change WvW dramatically. If you get an DE to clear out Ice elementals, the ice elementals gets evicted but new mobs take its place. Another DE can be to clear out mercenary camps so that new mercenaries can take their place.

The purpose of more DE in WvW? To keep players in WvW. Whenever I play WvW, there is nothing to do and I just find it boring. I want to be ganked when I am doing Dynamic events, I want to gank other players when they are doing DE. I want to do something.

My second suggestion, Towers no longer give out points/or the points are nerfed. Sentries now give ppts.

  • One biggest reason why for this change, I don’t like PvDoor.
  • Second biggest reason, it encourages more small roaming groups. Small roaming groups/solo can help their server just as much as large zergs can. Number of players in a zerg is no longer a big factor.

Don’t weep for towers, Towers will still be useful.

  • They provide safe refuge for players.
  • They can place siege weapons to attack keeps/castles.
  • Provide resources for building siege weapons.
  • Zergs can still take over them for rewards.

What do you think so far?

How about if ANet encourages players not to use WP instead of forcibly removing them?

I want these in every zone:

  • Trading post
  • Profession trainers
  • Bank
  • Laurel vendors
  • Crafting stations

I don’t want dailies where I am forced to teleport around. The old dailies were perfect.

Bam, wp becomes truly optional. I am not forced to wp to the city and back out.

I bought all the outfit instead of the armor skins.

  • Armor skins cost t-charges to use. Outfits do not.
  • Outfits can be used by all professions. Armor skins cannot.
  • It is cheaper to buy 1 outfit(700 gems) than to buy 3 armor skins(2400 gems).
