There are so many places that just call for a simple balance fix but the devs always seems to choose the other way…
You said you “rework almost all sigils” , then tell us why:
1. Why sigils with “on heal” skills have 10sec CD?
– the shortest heal possible is 12sec anyway
– it limits all these sigils for very certain builds that have a viable short CD heal skill (thievs, engies) making them stronger while making other builds weaker.

This is probably the best change in the patch. Good job, ArenaNet.
Why?
- Because its easier to teach noobs how to play the conquest game.
- Because it teaches that ZERG=BADDDDD.
- It’s a shoe in to Solo Q strategies and Team Q strategies.
- You can see better.
- Less team Stacking.
- Easier to fill 5v5 than 8v8.
- You actually can learn rotations (which is what matters really in PvP atm).
- Because getting steam rolled by team stacking makes people quit the game.
- Because it brings more people in with same skill level to go 5v5 with one another while actually doing something good rather than chase in circles.
- If you’re good, you can actually tell people : “hey do this, cap that, kill this, stay there…” (hard to do in 8v8)
- There’s plenty of other reasons why this change is good. And you were forced to play 8v8….how exactly?
Looking at your reasons, it’s clear to me that you bother too much with what other people are doing. Focus on what you want to do and then do it.
I don’t bother “that” much. Although I will admit I can go over board sometimes. I just really enjoy big communities of PvP players alike. If removing 8v8 solves the issue that is limiting the community from growing then so be it. Just because you dont care doesn’t mean other people have to be on the same boat as you. It’s clear to me you’re in this for your own gains, which is cool by me, I’m in this for the community (my 2 cents are in yo).
The thing is people enjoy different things. The popularity of 8v8 showed that people were enjoying themselves there. Now you come along and say “No, you have to enjoy yourselves this way instead”. Don’t you think that’s wrong?
You’re putting word on my keyboard man, I’m not here to say enjoy the game this way or that way, you’re saying that. I’m saying, 8v8s never taught anyone how to play conquest and that’s how you lose player base. People not knowing what they are doing, then they get stomped forever in 500-low games. Well, anyway there’s really no end to the argument so fire away I guess.
Glad 8v8s are gone. If you don’t like it don’t play it… Just like you don’t like playing solo q or team q for that matter. Find a server that does 8v8… Go Zerg gg. Stomp newbs. Be satisfied.
Things that don’t teach players how to play Conquest:
- WvW
- PvE
- Dungeons
- Raids
- Dueling
- Capture the flag
- Deathmatch
- Free for all
- Escort
- GvG
- Storm the castle
If not teaching players is a valid reason, then why should ANet add these? You might say it is for fun.
8v8 is fun.

Some unlockable skills won’t hurt the game.
Every PvP game has unlockable skills.
It’s not a bad thing.Bad gameplay… bad patches that don’t fix bad gameplay… now that destroys a game.
No unlockable doesn’t hurt the game, but some unlockable skills DO hurt the game. It hurts alts. No alts means no gem sales.
But I agree, Bad gameplay… bad patches that don’t fix bad gameplay… now that destroys a game.

ANet’s original logic behind 8v8 hot join went like this: 5v5 hot join didn’t work well because hot join was so volatile with people leaving/joining. So they wanted slightly larger teams. ANet didn’t think players would do a good job of distributing themselves around the map in 6v6 or 7v7, so they went with 8v8.
However, 8v8 hot join was too overcrowded. It didn’t teach anyone how to play conquest well. It also made it harder for players to learn; they would win or lose based on multiple allies showing up, not on the the strength or weakness of their skill or build. In comparison, 5v5 has a slower enough pace that you have some time to think and analyze what happened and you’re less likely to be carried by your team in fights.
Since launch, ANet also added observer slots, so you can now overflow rooms by a few people, making rooms less prone to 4v5 from volatility.
By that logic, ANet should never create more modes and remove TDM because it doesn’t teach players how to play conquest.

When I first started playing PvP I started with hotjoin, and thinking bigger is better I played a lot of 8v8. Over time I started reading on the forums and saw people saying how bad 8v8 was, how zergy it was, and with that I moved on to 5v5. I never turned back after seeing how much better 5v5 was, and today I’ve moved to pugging tPvP. Each step I’ve made has brought me closer to a true PvP experience, and if I’d known better I wouldn’t have played any 8v8, I’d have learned the ropes with 5v5. Thank you ANet for removing one of these intermediate steps and not letting people (especially noobs) get pulled into 8v8. I’m looking forward to practicing builds in 5v5 arenas and having more matches to choose from.
I don’t see how 8v8 take anything away from 5v5 in this post. I don’t see how this change is an improvement. Can someone locate it for me?
It might be that there is no reason here at all.
OP’s post might be about how he is thankful that ANet is forcing players to like what OP like.

Sorry, but I won’t miss it. I’d play 5v5s for testing builds and stuff and now I can play TDM for zergness/mindless battle.
That is great that you love 5v5 and that you dislike 8v8, but so what?
Having 8v8 can never do anything to hurt 5v5. Removing 8v8 will never add anything to 5v5.

You blame Hotjoin for multi-capping?
Your accusation is most likely Wrong. There was dailies that require you to cap three points. I would blame that instead of 8v8.
If you don’t like the zerging in 8v8, why are you in the 8v8 room? 5v5 rooms still existed. As far as I know, they weren’t empty.

Why? Because it is fun and that is the most important reason to have it. There are battles everywhere. I leave the capture point, I can always encounter a player running across a road. 5v5 makes it so that there is even less battles and I end up fighting only at three spots, the capture points. Less variety of place to fight is boring.
- If I want to play seriously, I would play solo queue.
- If players don’t like 8v8, there is always 5v5 for them to play their eyes out.
- There is no reason to remove 8v8.

Dueling is not fun in GW2, everyone will just be running 1v1 hard counter builds.
If you don’t like dueling, and you reject any duels, wtf do you even care what “everyone will be running”. If you are playing dungeons/ other pve content, what do these ‘hard counters’ have to do with you?
Because it is the reason why i don’t enjoy dueling, if people don’t just run hard counter dueling yolo builds, i will be enjoying quite a lot since it will be more skill related and not hard counter yolo build wars 2, i mean what’s the point of dueling if you just run yolo hard counter dueling builds and faceroll to win, like seriously.
If you want to win goto spvp where it matters.
Duels are just for fun and experimenting with builds without having to fully commit yourself to zoning to another area, while enjoying the present scenery and also you don’t have to die and respawn.
If someone is running a cheap, hard counter and you don’t like it don’t duel them, lol.
That’s the problem, you won’t duel your hard counters nor cheese builds, or you can retrait and hard counter them back, but then they wouldn’t want to duel you or they can also retrait, it’s just this endless loop of Build Wars 2, where skill is not included.
There’s also the cheese dueling build, which “hard counters” everybody in a duel, every thieves will just be running shadow rejunv just like in WvW, every mesmer will just run PU.
worse part is people will brag about it, just like people in hot join, i doubt people in wvw or pve will be any different, just like some hotjoiners, they think they actually beat you in duel because of skill, not because they are running PU mesmer, MM necro or w/eI like Chicken because I hate vegetables.

You can setup your own PvP arena for Dueling – Invite the person, DONE.
People want open world dueling so that they can be irritants. They want to be able to harass others and flex their kittens. They want to roll flavor of the month dueling builds, play their scissors and specifically hunt down their paper to cut, then crow about how awesome they are.
Otherwise, they’d be fine with specific arenas where they could easily find other people like them. But that would mean they’d actually have to fight other people who are built for dueling… and well, they can’t have THAT.
That Goldshire example I mentioned earlier? There’s a reason that dueling crowd hangs out in a low-level zone, and it’s not because it’s easy to find others duelists. It’s so that they can harass “easy marks”, low level players who are either new to the game or new to a certain class and might not know everything about it.
Straight up untrue. Sorry you had a bad experience that one time.
People hang out there because it’s right outside a major city.
Anyway, I suggest you stop worrying about how other play and whether or not they choose to duel. It’s really none of your business.
It’s my business if it affects me, and it affected me. I don’t really care if I can block people in chat or not. It’s obnoxious to have some teenage cretin badmouthing me in local chat because I refuse to duel him. It’s not why I play games. And yes, I did block him, but I still find it obnoxious.
This is the kind of player that dueling invites to the community. It ruins the community not just for me, but for the dozens of others who feel like I do. This isn’t something we made up inconvenience people. We feel this way due to our experience with players like that. Same with open world PvP.
Sure, I can ignore them. But they don’t make the game more fun for me, and they DO affect some people a lot more than they affect me. I’d probably rather have the affected people to play with than the griefers.
So I say no to dueling.
I had a similar case with you.

Top 5 reasons to not implement duelling:
- It creates toxic players. This is a big deal, because we currently have no toxic players whatsoever. Especially not speedrun elitists who bash you gor not doing what they want. The worst is that you can easily ignore elitists who spam your chat, but you can NOT simply ignore someone asking you for a duel.
- It removes the close bond I have with strangers. Due to this game’s deep storyline and immersion, I feel a close bond with pretty much everyonr. When they start fighting, it removes this sense and ruins my own play experience. It is completely unrealistic to do friendly sparring, just how it is the best form of martial arts practice in real life. In thr current age, and even as far back as the stone age. Practice should not be allowed, especially because it prepares young heroes to become better in combat and kill evil, without risk of dying.
- I don’t understand how people can possibly have different intereste than me. Duelling should not e implemented because it’s boring.
- It makes us realise how unbalanced this game is. We definitely did not know this before.
- It will upscqle events. Duellers like standing near events, because there’s a chance a random mob hits them and cancels the duel. It is also vonpletely different from AFKers just standing in events.
This sounded so common, it took me a while to figure this is satire.

i think duelling in open world is indeed toxic.
what i would surgest is that we get a pve/wvw duellin arena in that you can invite
someone.i like duelling but i dont like it in pvp because the numbers and builds and
the space you have are different in pvp.
in pve/wvw i have more room for my play and the damage numbers are different.thats why i would like to see pve/wvw duelling arenas in that you have a lot of space
and your pve/wvw equip.just for example:
in the charr main city there is a big arena, if we could go there and sign up for a duell and then duell there that would be great.
there are a lot of other places where this could be implemented, so there will always be “different” arenas, some with some high and low parts, some with obstractions, some without . and you could watch the duell from above the arena and cheer for the duells.
you could even do duell turnaments, 8 players sign up and the best gets a little price .
Or there can be open world dueling instead and everyone moves on.
i think duelling in open world is bad for tha game atmosphere.
if you always see people fighting you dont feel the big band anymore that connects
us all, we all fight against something and if we fight against each other we loose
the feeling of building an alliance and community.if the duells are in a place where noone execpt the players who want to fight
or who want to watch someone duelling can see it its good for everyone.
There is already dueling in the PvE world. It just so happens that they are NPC. So should ANet remove these skillpoint NPC to satisfy your atmosphere problem? Or can you stop complaining using ridiculous stuff to stop a great feature?.
I don’t want to see people with Scarlet wings. They should be somewhere I don’t have to see. They ruin the atmosphere.
How is it bad? The only “arguments” I’ve seen so far amount to
1. It might annoy me
2. Vague handwaving about how it might be “bad” for the game while conveniently ignoring the fact that every addition to the game might bring in some perceived negatives. Like supposed “elitists” with fractals, easier dungeon kicking and selling with LFG, and griefers/spies with WvW. Not a valid reason to not add something to the game.If they implement it correctly, it won’t even affect you, but you have to be willing to use the tools they provide. Duelers usually congregate in a couple of areas, with few duels happening elsewhere in the open world. If it offends you so much, don’t go to that one area.
Dueling will scale up events, even though the people dueling don’t participate in the event. The game was NOT designed for it.
Wrong. Participation scale up events, Duelers need to do some damage to mobs to scale up the event. But let say that you are right, It won’t be any different than AFKers or people that passes by.

There’s hate towards dueling? I didn’t realize. I would think everyone would like to have the feature, and I agree that it is sorely lacking from the GW2 experience.
We do have custom arenas of course, but annoyingly, you have to pay for those. I support the inclusion of a free, spontaneous friendly dueling system in PvE.
For those who don’t like the idea for whatever reason, there could be a toggleable setting in the options menu to opt out of all duels, so that you wouldn’t need to hit “decline” all the time, and people couldn’t challenge you in the first place.
Suggest this in GW2discussion forum.

We could make the new trading system like it was in the older mmos, where you open a store in the capital with your character, and players can walk through the capital and shop, that way is much more immersive. And the chat was much more populated with the sellers posting their stuff every sec.

Nope.
The 5 slot bags make it clear that there’s better out there than the 4 slot ones. That can get them to looking for better, which leads to crafting and/or the market.
If 8 slot ones drop, then the next step is too high to reach quickly with crafting, and more people will just write it off.

The reason why ANet is adding unlockables is because of progression.
ANet is now adding a great progression track: sPvP Dungeon reward track. Which I don’t find it intrusive to the gameplay at all.

You CAN’T EQUATE armor to mounts. The Armor shell is already in game, they just need different artwork on it. Mounts mean new physics, modeling etc. What don’t you understand about that.
Players have been crying for new content, more of the world open, etc . and all you can say is MOUNTS? Right……
What. Did someone reform the laws of physics when horses suddenly enter Earth?
Game engine physics, not real world ones. The horses would not enter Earth but a virtual world.
Armor means new modeling too. What don’t you understand about that? Is every armor suppose to look like the Flamekissed/Flamewrath set?
No, new armor means new textures. Mounts mean not only new textures, but new wireframes, and many, many other things (new animations, collision boxes, new object interaction, changes to combat engine – a ton of stuff). It’s not just a matter of painting a horsie.
- Can’t think of new physics that has to be added in that isn’t in game already. So, did the laws of physic reform? No.
- I’ll take you seriously if you can prove that Phalanx armor is a carbon copy of the Orrian armor.

Anet would never do it for several reasons. The first and foremost reason is that it would remove one of the main gold sinks, WP costs, from the game.
And Dusty Moon has a good point above as one of the several reasons.
*You do know the reason why WP cost is there so that people won’t use them and actually explore.
I will still use WP regardless if there is mounts or not. I am not going to suddenly walk from Vigil Keep to CoF just because of mounts exist.

Your argument needs to be better than, “I disagree because it is ugly.”
Actually No, It doesn’t. See I am in the Majority, and More Importantly, I am also in agreement with the devs stated intentions.
Someone said " It hurts no one." I am showing how it hurts me.
Just because you are willing to put up with an ugly dolyack rear end in your face, doesn’t mean I have to.
You have valid objections to overcome before you can get people to agree with you. That you lable them " invalid" doesn’t make them invalid.
Just because you have differing taste about uglyness doesn’t make a dolyacks rear end beautiful.
As I said before , you want what the majority does not. You want what the devs have stated that have NO intent to implement " at this time".
YOU need better arguments than " maybe a dolyacks rear end can be beautiful… you don’t Know til you look, besides maybe I find them beautiful." and you need better arguments than " because…. I want it."

I do – A.Net already said that is not going to happen (mounts). I feel they have better things they can do with their time, like Guild Halls and real GvG. More areas to explore, another race and maybe another profession are things players want more than something that strokes the ego of a few players.
ANet said they won’t do it for FLYING mounts. They have no plans for mounts.
Because then Flying mounts will have to overcome technical limits. Regular mounts don’t have technical limits.
Regular mounts do have technical limits. You have to model a player riding on them, etc. If they have not done that, that is like re-inventing the wheel. I think there are more important things A.Net can do for the game, like new exploration areas, Engine optimization (this is huge so the game doesn’t chug so much), etc. Mounts are a drain on the few resources they have.
Equally as armor/weapons, but they still exist in the gem shop.
Armor means new modeling too. What don’t you understand about that? Is every armor suppose to look like the Flamekissed/Flamewrath set?

A totally selfish reason… " I want it" followed by a fallacy. “It hurts no one” you say. it hurts me to 1. Look at it. 2. deal with the fact that I’ll be staring at some charr riding a dolyack, and have the dolyack’s rear end to stare at as i try to click On the Banker…( I left WoW because of How often a Mount…flying or otherwise… Blocked a banker, a mailbox, an NPC…a quest giver… etc etc etc etc… I say no to Dolyack rear ends.)
It also hurts me because all that graphical clutter will slow My frame rate. And saying either " No it won’t." or " get a better computer." are entitled arguments….
the first you cannot guarentee, and the second, I don’t feel I need to get a better computer , because you wanna see your character ride a mount.
Sorry, but… your desire to ride a mount would affect my gaming experience to the negative. Oliver Wendell Holmes i believe once said I may be wrong… " My right to extend my first, ends when it comes In contact with your nose."
Your right to ride a mount ends…when it Inconveniences My ability to enjoy the game.
Sadly… you may feel the opposite is true…but it is Not. YOU are the one that is In the Minority…and… YOU are the one that wants what the devs have already decided they do not wish to Implement…" at this time."
YOU therefore need better reasons than.." because I want it."
If looks can hurt, then GW2 need a visual overhaul.

I don’t think Mounts will be as ridiculous as this. Therefore, looks isn’t a good argument to be against mounts.
If there is a visual overhaul, then we can continue discussing about what fits in.
Sorry but, I get to decide what is ugly for me. Not you. It may look like roses and rainbows to you..all those mounts all over the place Blocking NPC’s and shaking their rear ends in your face….
But Not mine.
And since what is attractive differs for different people, I am allowed to state that all those mounts Looking ugly to my taste is valid…for me… and it seems for more than a few others….

In this game, mounts would be nothing but trouble. If you are someone who wants mounts, answer these important questions:
1) How would mounts affect WvW? Have you given any thought to how it might change the landscape of how things work in that portion of the game?
2) If people are riding mounts through an area, how will that effect the scaling of dynamic events when the event registers more people are in the area?
3) How would you handle players on mounts being hit by enemies? Are they thrown from their mount? Dismounted? Can they fight from the mount?
4) How would you be affected if you were in the middle of a jumping puzzle and someone attempted to do it with a mount and was blocking your view?
5) What happens when you go underwater? Are there going to be underwater mounts too?
6) How do you deal with the added animations needed in heavy areas (like world bosses) when people have mounts? The resources for the mounts aren’t free.
7) How do you deal with the issue of people’s mounts blocking important NPCs (I’ve seen this issue in many other MMOs, and it’s a real pain).
8) Besides looking cool, what is the distinct advantage of having a mount over not having a mount? If you get no speed boost, why is it important?
9) The development time used to create decent mounts would likely take away from other features or additional content in GW2. How do you justify that mounts are more important than other things?
Answer these questions and let me know.
1) The same way how tonics affect WvW. None at all.
2) Same way a player that comes in to a event and afk.
3) They get damaged and get thrown into combat. Nothing happens until the player dismounts.
4) The same way tonics affects me or a Norn/Charr affects me.
5) They disappear. I wouldn’t mind having underwater mounts.
6) This question makes no sense.
7) By pressing F.
8) There is no mechanical importance. It is as important as Gem store Armor.
9) By paying for it with my money.
What trouble?

I don’t understand why so many people in the community seem to have zero imagination, vision or creativity.
Oh, i agree. Mounts are so cliche… can’t we ask for something new and creative instead?
None of you have provided a reasonable basis for them to not be on the game.
It’s not like people asking for mounts supply any reasonable reasons for their inclusion.
Except none of the reasons have been any more acceptable than those for them.
“I don’t like mounts” Yeah well, some people do. So that’s not a reason.
“Other games have mounts, play those” Other games have quests! And maps! And load screens! And PVP! And levels! Lets remove all those too! Or rather, why don’t people leave for WoW/Tera/Whatever the hell else for those features too!
“Mounts and anti-immersive, clunky, badly implemented, Lore defying” Really? Really now? Show me the proof for where in GW2 Mount use hasn’t been allowed. Maybe no one thought of it yet lore wise? We’ve already had unorthodox mounts on the form of ships in missions, golems, portals/elevators/lift systems and others. And as for anti-immersive, well, what about minis, many legendaries and skins, many NPC joke quotes, tonics and many other features like Candy-Cane weapons and the like? What makes any of those immersive? Find me the line in Lore that says that Minis are actually a in game lore feature, that are central to the story. I challenge you.
“Clutter and clipping” Yeah well, Norn and Charr can do that solely from existing so the last thing on your mind should be mounts when two races cause that issue already.
“We already have waypoints” right, so let’s remove speed boosting abilities and stuff that grants swiftness.
The only basis I’ve seen is, “There’s too many things ANet needs to do first”, which doesn’t really disqualify them, rather, it just sets back their prioritisation. In terms of reasoning for removing them, there is nothing stopping ANet from implementing them aside from, “We don’t want to” or “It’d require more resources than it’s worth”, the latter of which I can sort of understand I guess.
If you want to play that card. I got one better.
I have yet to read one good or compelling reason to add them. NOT a single one. The game was built around not needing them. Sorry.
Because I want to use them to ride around, for roleplaying purposes, for looks and in WvW, I would love to charge into the zerg with my horse. And the most compelling reason is that it hurts no one.
except the enemy zerg.
Why would it hurt the enemy zerg?

- Yeah, making mount animation(forward, standing) is much harder than making normal mob animations(Walking, standing, crippled walking, attacking, casting spells) Why are you using animation for excuse? This is about controls. Control not equal animation.
- For looks, for roleplaying, and to ride around in the PvE world. In WvW, guilds can use these mounts for a cavalry charge for fun.
- They are optional moneysinks. You do not have to put money in them if you don’t want to. Nothing is wrong with optional moneysink.
- Gem shop armor is completely useless, yet people still buy them.
- If you think the post is breaking the ToS, then go hit the report button. You will see how wrong you are. You should realize that you are getting emotional in your argument and need to calm down.
I never debated the merits of having mounts, I fully agree some people would like to see them and have fun with them. I wouldn’t mind seeing mounts in game, but I don’t need or want them personally.
my arguments go back to one main problem: the time it takes to implement mounts properly. you can of course argue that adding several different mounts to the game wouldn’t take time at all and the devs could make it happen in a few days, but before proclaiming something like that, you might wanna learn a bit about software development first, it seems you highly underestimate the amount of work even simple features can take – especially animation (and clipping with all the coats etc)
sorry if you think I’m emotional when I bring up a concern you think doesn’t exist.
Show me one thing in GW2 that does not take time/effort to implement.
This is no excuse. Otherwise, I can go to all suggestion and veto them because it takes “time.”
