well, I dont care about the stats, I just would like to have the skin. Why should good looking skins be available only for pve´rs?

Do you think PVE’ers only make Legendary armor for the stat swappability? People make Legendary armor for the skin/particle effects primarily, the stat swapping and rune swapping is a cherry on top. Making it so strict Spvpers can just get the skins without having to raid defeats the purpose of having it be a prestigious reward for people who do hardcore group content. Good looking skins, you want it yes? Then go out and do what you need to do to get it if your really want it that badly, no one is stopping you yourself. Not all SPVPers only play Spvp you know, I know a fair bit who play every aspect of this game, but find the most enjoyment in pvp.

It’s a shame the PvE community doesn’t share the same opinion when the shoes are switched, it’s why they removed map completion from a lot of areas like WvW.

I think people are still petitioning that the GoB shouldn’t be attained through WvW.

Also back in the day, PvP had unique skins but it was unfair to PvE’rs, so they removed the token system all together and handed out skins to everyone who showed up. Then they made the “Year of Ascension”, which was a prestigious item UNTIL it could be earned indefinitely due to the complaints of PvE’rs…. The PvP players had already earned theirs within the time limit and were happy with their once prestigious item.

I understand that if you want the gear, you should do the raids. I also understand what bias means too but PvP population is dying partly due to lack of incentives, I think having another legendary in PvP to earn would certainly help population problems.
For me personally, I’m not touching PvP due to the matchmaking (which is a population issue), but I would sit through insufferable games if I was earning something worthwhile for it.

(You could almost say most PvP issues towards the match making can be fixed by implementing another Legendary into PvP, repopulating PvP would allow the matchmaking to work properly, a working matchmaking promotes more gameplay, a healthier environment for PvP for everyone.)

BUT, I know it’s more important for a few players to blossom rather than a whole game itself.

Yeah, I was hoping for a little more than that. Thanks.

I just wish they would say “here’s what we think isn’t great: x, y, z..”, and then explain what steps they were taking to fix it and why those steps would/could/might be effective. Kind of feels like i’m just along for the ride at this point.

Has there ever been any discussion of implementing something like the ptr’s in WoW? That would be neat.

They have to be transparent with us.

In the past they have said and suggested things they would like but some of us take it as a contract and expect it to happen. (I’m guilty of this when it comes to the “year” of ascension)

When they don’t deliver, we all become grade A kittens, which is bad for PR reasons.
Not sure if I explained it properly, but I hope you understand. It’s very much “cause and effect”.

So… You’re making a thread to tell the players who genuinely enjoy the game as it is to stop saying they enjoy the game as it is when other players are saying that they don’t enjoy the game as it is because obviously™ the vast majority of players don’t enjoy the game as it is ?

More seriously though, there isn’t 2 camps of Anet-blind-fanboys and players wanting change. For each arguments, there will be people having varied opinions regardless of where they stand. Not everyone enjoys the same thing and everyone’s ‘perfect world’ is different.

New people who have just started to PvP may very well enjoy it but to the people who aren’t new, they have a better time to reflect upon, a comparison to make between the games current state and previous state.

Im a gold player who left the game due to being matched with top leaderboard players while also having bronzes on the same team.

If season 7 matchmaking gets fixed, even just slightly by whats suggested in this post, I would return to the game to give it another crack.

Im not pro, im not bad, thats the sorta people I want to be matched against.

Active game > People having fun.
Rating comes around > People see how broken matchmaking is > People leave.
People leave > population gets low.
Population gets low > matches get worse.
Matches get worse > More people leave.

You’re more than welcome to speculate why some of us are leaving, but I’m telling you from my personal opinion that I left because of matchmaking and your ideas to help me come back, won’t work because it’s the matchmaking that killed the game, or having rating to allow us to see how broken matchmaking is. Which ever way you look at it. But the defining factor and what is making people leave, is matchmaking.

You know what changed from S5 to s6? It was hope. Hope that season 6 would be better, but it’s not. There’s no mystery to it.

Your ideas were good, but only for people who are still playing the game but sadly even those ideas won’t make me sit through insufferable games.

Okay, Did you know they actually improved the algorithm in S6? They abolished class stacking… Probably one of the worst offenders in matchmaking, and they were successful in getting rid of it.

The algorithm works just fine when there are more people playing…So when we had a high population in S5, how come people left? Can’t be because match quality was bad due to silver people being in Gold matches? The population was fine enough for that to not be the reason. There’s an obvious answer here as to why people left, and we are in the situation we are in now…but ill leave that to you to make that conclusion on your own.

Anyway, lets say Arena-net were to “improve the algorithm”, and gate matchmaking by rank or division(even worse). This is what will happen…on the first day.

Legendary players = will never get matches
Platinum players = will never get matches
Gold players = a few matches will be played, but there is a line, because only 1 or 2 might be going on. Means you have to wait 5 – 10 minutes for a game… and you’ll be fighting with the same people over and over again. “How fun.”
Silver = Matches will be played
Bronze = Matches will be played

At night, these will significantly dwindle.

So what happens? the current Legend, platinum and gold players stop playing…because the que times won’t work for them…

Okay. then what happens? The players who hear that “matchmaking improved” come back to find that their que doesn’t exist, because everyone who’s tried to get a match haven’t had one. This also has a feedback effect….people cant get a match for 15 – 30 minutes? They are just gonna do something else and leave…that’s way worse then what is happening now. Now is this an over-exaggeration? No it’s not. Within the top 250, lies all the gold 3 players, platinum 1 – 3 and legendary players. That means those 250 people, 10 of them have to be online, in the same division to get a match. That’s a razor thin margin, and if you count right now, there are probably only 50-80 people maximum in gold 3…

Gold 1 and 2 it gets slightly better, probably around 200 people all together, maybe more. but again, we’re talking razor thin margins, in which 10 from the same division have to be online for you to have one game.

So no i’m not exaggerating when i say people wont have games…who’s gonna say the algorithm improved when they can’t even play games? lol

That change wasn’t anything spectacular, it was mostly aimed at people who didn’t know how to handle stacked DH’s….

If you want to speculate, you’re more than welcome too. If you want to keep it the same, then don’t complain about the matches because the rest of us left.

At the end of it all, You’re still playing the game and you’re trying to make suggestions on how to get people who left to come back while I am a player who left saying certain things need to change in order for myself and others to return, mostly it’s remove rating or hard cap the games.

As a player who played since game release for about 4-6 hours a day who hasn’t played in 2 weeks now, none of that will make me return.

Changing the matchmaking how ever, will. Hard capping games so I don’t have to play with Bronzes and top 20 players while I’m in Gold WILL actually let me enjoy the game, the purpose of a game is enjoyment after all.

TLDR: Matchmaking is horrible and is killing the game, reducing population and creating a downward spiral that’s only getting worse.

Then you clearly don’t understand the issue.

The reason you are getting bad matches is because the population is low.

If they were to change the algorithm to favor better matchmaking in this low pop state, you’d get NO matches because there aren’t enough people at your skill level that are playing at the same time.

Nothing has changed between season 5 and season 6, yet the population went down… It’s not a mystery to anyone as to why that is.

You are yelling at A-Net about an issue caused by low population…and your solution, is to change the matchmaking algorithm?

It’s obvious that low population is out of Arena net’s direct control. The only way to solve the issue of low population is to incentivise players to return to PVP, which means providing one, if not all of the following

1) Changing the Meta.
2) Adding diversity in game-modes and builds
3) PVE rewards for the PVE noobers who want “more rewards”.

I said this last season too, I could see the flaws in the system and predicted what would happen if it wasn’t changed this season, and that prediction has come true.

A Quick Update on DBL

DBL is great, I can go there and never see anyone. Flip empty camps, sentries and what ever, never get contested.

Words cannot describe how awesome this map is for uninterrupted reward track completion, fight guilds are really missing out on this exceptional experience.

I feel like a GOD on DBL because I never die on that map, just burn off those carbs running from camp to camp.

This map has so much inspiration, that I started to craft a Braton Prime and Frost Prime Warframe after I gave up in Season 6 PvP matchmaking.

AC destruction hitting DH

I guess 50 players building a half dozen rams to take down a gate against half their numbers…

Actually it is fine, one of the reasons WvW has died off is because they listened to people who lack basic logic and cried about needing tools to defend against superior numbers, so they added siege like shield gens, buffed AC damage, fortified everything, put in trash mechanics like chilling fog, etc.

And all that achieved was more people leaving the game in the post-HoT collapse of WvW, because if 10 guys can use that crap against 50, then so can 50 defending against 50 attackers and make attempting to take objectives boring as hell, to the point most people do not want to do it anymore, but like I said that was the obvious outcome to anyone with a basic grasp of logic, the actual solution to defending against 50 players with 25 was to address population balance, but that involved too much work.

They didn’t add these things because people complained. They added them because the developers’ conception for WvW is a game based around the taking and defending of structures by the implementation and use of siege machinery. That’s what WvW is.

Very hard to look at the way the game mode has been handled over the entire life of the game and make a case for it being intended to be anything other than that, much though many players would like it to be something else.

he was right tho, people wanted tools to use when 10 was vs 50, but it ended up being 50 people using those tools against the 10. So those small 10 man guilds quit the game.

WvW used to be about being in a WvW guild with guild raids to help the server, even PvE guilds had daily/weekly WvW raids and you would witness a 50 man guild raiding a map for an hour or 2 while the dedicated WvW guilds of 10-15 would hunt them. Everyone used their skill bar, not the ac’s and siege. (although siege wasn’t even on the trading post at that time, you had to earn your siege and make choices on when to build it because badges were scarce)

I’m okay with duels so long as they remain where they belong: PvP.

When I run across two people duking it out in WvW I’m always hesitant to help, unsure if they are dueling or just roaming. So some place special for dueling would be good. Also, getting them out of WvW standardizes equipment.

Regarding duels and WvW though. Erhm…there’s a whole “instance” that can be dedicated to this. It even has a huge kitten arena!

The whole map of Obsidian Sanctum and the Arena inside that map is practically made for duels and 2v2,3v3 etc etc.

Why the regular duelers don’t use that map is beyond me. If that map would become the gold standard of dueling spots then people like you wouldn’t have to worry about chipping in on a random fight you see somewhere in any of the border maps.

Maybe because it’s tied to WvW and you have to rely on being matched against a certain server to be able to duel a certain person… Just maybe, that’s why no one uses it?

You misunderstand me. I’m not talking about dueling against anyone,I’m talking about the loads of duelers that duels in WvW maps all the time.

They should use the OS for that imo so that confusion won’t arrise in certain situations.

Now,a dueling feature against anyone anywhere,that’s something I don’t want. However,as mentioned above,one can create a dueling feature the Mists shrugs

No one duels in the mists either….

the 3 places to currently duel have issues with them. WvW for example, has to rely on being matched with certain servers. PvP has it’s templates and lack of build diversity. Guild halls are limited to players who are rich or in a big guild.

This topic has been discussed to death over the years and it was pretty much stated that having a duelling arena at the bottom of the Black Citadel that required you to enter an instance just like SAB, was too disturbing to other players game play.

It allowed certain builds to do massive damage – for example it made it possible to solo bandits from the current event bounties by using it for a massive burst. It has the potential to spoil the fun of anyone who wanted to actually do the event properly. Having seen first-hand the toxicity that has occurred in the past when people have had competing agendas over events (like fail-farming in Orr), then it’s worth fixing this.

Not really, you still occasionally get groups doing it with the event to capture Shank Anchorage at the start of the Gates of Arah chain.

I can say not really to 4 years ago because I’ve seen it happen in the past few weeks – yes it is a lot less frequent now, but it isn’t something that exclusively happened back then, it’s occurred pretty much throughout the game’s existence, and still happens now.

but seeing todays standard and comparing it to back then, today is bugger all. You’d almost say this is a dead game when comparing to back then.

Stomping has increased reward over cleave?

sometimes cleaving is the best, other times go for stomp.
i play zerkers and its not uncommon for one downed enemy to turn in to 2-3 finished enemies because they tried rezzing inside my damage

It’s awsome when you’re a Warrior and they try to rez through 100b + Arc Slice.

I always laugh at people who jump on corpses…. Especially the ones who gank in a group of 3-4 and still have 1-2 allies dead.

Why are they still hurting me through my [Endure Pain] or [Spectral Armor]?? I don’t have any conditions on me! I should be take less damage!
As far as i know you can not take dmg with endure pain on you if there no con.

Pretty sure leech effects still work through Endure pain and Stone Signet.

We got leagues because people wanted ranked back. When people complained of the matchmaking they made continual changes to try and improve it. When that wasn’t enough they dropped pips for pure glicko so that we could get the skill leaderboards that people demanded so badly. When people complained about decay/volitity exploits they fixed that, when people complained about alt sniping they added the minimum games requirement. When people complained about ascended rewards dragging in the PvE plebs, Anet reworks the rewards.
When people complained of the bunker meta in s1, Anet fixed the bunkers. When people complained of the condi meta in s2, Anet fixed that too. When people complained of lack of diversity Anet rolls out buffs to underused traits and skills every balance patch.

We have a better ranked system than we did a year ago, we have better balance than we did a year ago, and we have better diversity than we had a year ago.

To say that Anet isn’t trying is willful ignorance.

Those same few people did so much complaining that they screwed the game for the rest of us.

I never had issues with bunker meta, a bit of CC always countered the healbots. Never had issues with condi meta because I would stack condi cleanses. In fact, I never had issues with PvP before rating came around, too busy having fun to notice a top 20 player in a Silver game. But they gave us the tools to see how broken matchmaking is and now I rarely touch it, went from 20+ games a day to 1-2 games every 3 days and still declining.

The “year” of ascension was extended indefinitely. We were meant to get new ones every year.

Typical Anet bait and switch. I definitely wouldn’t have crafted one if I knew it wouldn’t have been exclusive to that year of seasons.

Neither, also had friends leave the game after they dedicated months to making theirs only to find out they didn’t need to rush it. lost it’s prestigious effect after the announcement came through.

The only treb change I would like would be reduced damage. The CC alone is painful enough and can be a game changer on point if you’re already in a fight.

I think the issue is that the fact that people can’t maintain a good rating by doing well in the first ten-twenty games and then playing the minimum required to prevent decay is exposing the flaws in the system that make it virtually impossible to maintain a good rating if you play regularly.

It’s not impossible, i usually play 2 to 3 games a day and this entire season I’ve been hovering around the 100-130 mark on the leaderboards. If you maintain like kitten win rate you should be able to hold your spot.

I think that’s his point…. You play the minimum to stay on the boards which is a couple games a day as opposed to s1-4 where people played 30+ a day. The system encourages people to play less to look more skilled which is sort of an oxymoron in itself.

From that pic I can respect Rarnark and Tivez though, they are the true PvP players.

Yeah but even only playing that I still have like 200 games played this season, people can’t play 30+ games a day anymore because they have to make a living now without esports. People also don’t want to play a lot because our games for the most part aren’t even fun, 7 out of 10 of my games have players so far below my skill level that I can just sit far and farm them. When you’re playing druid and you drop an engi in about 5 seconds something is wrong.

I’ve got a full time job and on my work days I can play about 10 but on the weekends my partner gives me half the day to play so I can get a good 20-30 from that and just assumed others would have a lot more, but I certainly agree that this season has not been fun at all with the matchmaking, I’m a Gold getting smashed back into Silver by the top 50 players so once I got into Gold for the 4th time I started to play TF2. (god I hate spy, they’re god kitten thieves with ally disguises!)

Which demonstrates why this is a problem. If you’re a low gold/high silver getting matched against top fifty players, you’re not going to have a good experience – in fact, as far as match quality goes, you might as well play unranked at that point.

Not only that but I genuinely love this game but the game itself encourages me not to play, just like others when they reached their own desired rank. All of it bleeds the player base and makes the games worse off.

(I have since discovered letting decay hit the account will put me against a bunch of bronzes/Silvers, really easy to carry but atleast I’m avoiding top players)

But you’re right, every build has 1-2 traitlines that are a must! like, every Ranger takes Druid/survival, Every Ele takes Water/temp, Every Engie takes alchemy/scrapper, every thief takes trickery/dd and so on… All bad designs by your recognition or do we just ignore every other class for the sake of the thread?

No build variety because one type of utility (stances) and one traitline (defense) is mandatory for survival.

While this may be true, it’s applied to a few builds like Paladins, Berserker, Wanderers, Sage, Marauders, Deadshot and so on, that there is already 6 different builds ranging from tanky, bursty, condition and hybrid. I wish my Ele had that many builds or options, so complaining warrior has “nothing” is a joke….

As Caedmon and Ketsu said though, Warriors are a noob check. Little bit of kiting and that Warrior becomes free food. Sometimes it’s worth baiting out that EP with skills before unleashing the burst onto them.

Boon corruption also works wonders against Warriors after Berserkers stance ends.
Unblockable attacks while they shield stance.
Leeching effects ignore EP too so in a way you can still damage them even with EP active.

Besides dodging, poison is your best friend against AH, also works wonders against the healing signet too. Then there’s everything else you can do like apply protection/regen to yourself and weakness to the warrior.

(instead of saying “X” class is op, how about asking how to beat “X” class with “Y” class, I’m sure many people have many ways to help)

Sorry to dissapoint, i have played both warr and against a warr as well, the latter all the time. If you’re so sure I know nothing then feel free to show me meta warr build that does not use defense line and/or stances. I dare you.

This idea is even worse than making gw2 am esport in the first place soooo…. Really bad.

Well leaving it like it is means you’ll only be playing with yourself soon enough.

So what’s worse, lots of ‘OP’ builds and lots of people having fun or the same ol crap that’s bleeding players that will soon enough fully kill PvP and leave you with the same 15 people to PvP with?

I find Focus is for newer Eles, they heavily rely on the invuln. It will always come down to your own skill level though, dagger is harder to use more efficiently but the pay off is better.

If you can be effective with Dagger off hand, by all means keep getting better at it.

(you should try water/air/temp build with lightning rod traits and surging runes on D/D) – turn your team into a moving stun field for 16 seconds, striking multiple enemies with lightning rod and laying out CC with Air and Earth.

Yeah shocking aura share is insanely fun but a lot of people expect the tempest to be supporting them. While I wouldn’t say offhand dagger is bad after the changes to it a thief can still teleport onto you and take off more than half your health with precast BS+steal and your only real follow up to it is shocking aura on DD but DF has that extra invuln and as others say reflect for getting a heal off to let you get to kiting spots.

Focus is just a lot better for supporting your team through AoE projectile destruction and staying alive which is your role a lot of the time.

Thieves are easy to deal with if you run D/D… well for me anyway. Like I said though, it just comes down to skill with the weapons. I used to run focus about 4 years ago but offhand dagger has always been more useful to me for both support, control, utility and damage reasons.

Thats just me though, I dont need all that extra projectile hate because I rely on Magnetic Auras for that. You can still support on D/D too…

Offhand dagger requires skill to be more effective than focus but focus is generally easier to use and requires next to little practice to be effective. It also has that handy “oh crap i dun goofed” invulnerability button. Focus is very user friendly in comparison to off hand dagger.

Its up to OP what he wants to do, they’re both very effective in the end and fulfill the roles properly but one does require a steep learning curve and adjustment in playstyle.

Just gonna add this for OP…. off hand dagger for the sake of mobility is a bad choice.

Sound Updates

I own Legendaries, Quip/Dreamer were on my next to get list so I’m hoping nothing gets changed.

Instead of crapping on your playerbase who already have these items, how about a sound toggle in options? This way people who don’t like it can mute it while the rest of us enjoy what we created.

Like I said, I don’t have those ones yet, but I would be super mad if you guys downgraded any of the Legendaries I own, a lot of time is spent making these or in my case, a lot of cash was spent buying them.

You guys create awsome things, but some people won’t let others have their fun, just look at aviators day 2015 or the new floppy fish, please don’t let a vocal minority ruin it for the majority, it’s killing this game and I would very much like to keep playing for years to come.
