Queuing as Thief put me into a game of 7 DH that zerged everything…… Even though I swapped to Nec, I was able to run around freely getting kills a lot easier than normal BUT, biggest BUT ever, my allies were noticeably worse so much to a point I thought I was the only one on the team (4v1 on home, 2 guards have traps set on home but won’t move till someone triggers em and so forth). This is after 1 game however, I’ll have to test this more tonight after work.
Considering my games are usually 1-2 Nec, Warriors, scrappers, eles and druids, this was a huge change to matchmaking already.

I’ve been reading that, was interesting to see “Profession ratings” in the mix as I had no idea that professions contributed to match making…..
I am still a little clueless of the profession scenarios. One thing I read is that it tries to match up professions but when I go into a match and see I am up against 4 guards and a thief or something very similar I know we are doomed. Again though people de-queue or what have you then the match making becomes broken. There is a post out there where a Dev said they are trying to fix it at some point but we’ll see.
IMO people want to win every match and that just isn’t going to happen. There are Leets out there and I use in a good way because they are very good at their rotation and anticipation that they are going to have good win/lose ratios. I am no young whipper snapper so my fingers travel only so fast across the keyboard but I am getting better and this is where I think the problem lays. the whole “get gud” term works in many cases. Some people are there only for rewards, some like myself and you apparently are trying to “get gud” but the system can falter us sometimes.
It amazes me how so many think the system is broken and I will agree it needs fine tuning, but in the long run ANET cannot weed out bad players or players who are there for less than prestige and only goodies. PvP caters to all and we have to live with that.
EDIT: I so broke the quote thingy lol
Evan said the system is getting worked on for next season but can’t implement it till the season is over incase it risks game stability…. So we know it’s broken somewhat.
As for Profession matchmaking, in a system that want’s 50% win loss, I am currently testing if queuing on my worst toon at 14% win rate then swapping to my 72% winrate on nec will increase my chances of winning lol
EDIT: I broke it too lol

THOUGH if someone leaves a match prior to start matchmaking does NOT occur again.
I’ve been reading that, was interesting to see “Profession ratings” in the mix as I had no idea that professions contributed to match making…..
Was just curious if one of the reasons matchmaking was “broken” was because it’s contradicting itself…..
If its putting people together of similar MMR then all well n good but if it’s a skill rating hidden in the background then there’s an issue. Someone in Bronze could have the same skill rating as someone in Gold and for the sake of 50/50 matches will put the 2 together, now that gold player would be “where he belongs” but the Bronze player wouldn’t and neither of them would be able to climb meaning they are stuck where ever the placement games put them.
I’m mostly curious about this as I had 50% win rate before the seasons even started so I was already established into the matchmaking and one of the things I’ve noticed to stick out the most is that anyone who played before season 1 had a really hard time climbing in the seasons due to established MMR while newer accounts, including my alt, were given a tonne of easy games and just shot through ranks without even trying…
I’m not trying to trash matchmaking, only trying to source the problem. (if there is one)
….. And Elementalist.
Question:
Does the matchmaker put you against similar ratings or is there another way to determine who you’re matched against? Like a Skill rating system or something.

I just got rolled over by an esl player in unranked. I’m in bronze 2. I know it wasn’t ranked. This kind of match doesn’t inspire confidence in the system.
Yes, I tend to play on off hours. Still, this kind of match is not unusual for me.
Team PZ is pro? Oh god, matchmaking and rating placements are worse than I could have imagined.

I’d be more inclined to say Necros are the most skilled, or at least requires the most skill.
A Necro is a team DPS with no escapes unless they take 2 useless utility skills, no sustain and relies on competent team mates to be effective especially if the other team has already targeted the Nec.
I’ve pushed out a lot of Nec games and one thing I can say is: You either wipe the other team freely all game or you’re getting your kitten chased all over point all game while you drop what ever chill/soft cc you can manage to kite while your team bashes on a Guardians Shield Of Courage.

I thought I quit the game, turns out I couldn’t. So I spent another fifty on the game and made a toon and made ascended gear to try a fractal, only level 7 after 4.5 years but here goes nothing.
PvP is crap this season and killing off the dedicated pvp players.
True but look on the bright side. There are a bunch of actually good dedicated PvP games on the market for dedicated PvP players to go to, when they get tried of the shenanigans of PvP in GW2.
ANet don’t care about losing PvP population. They’ll just sell a even more power creeped up expansion that everyone will buy, because unless you want to be scrub tier’ed in PvE you’ll have no choice.
I’ll tell to personally as a ex-Dedicated GW2 PvP player that turned PvE player in GW2, that now plays actually dedicated PvP games. PvP life is great outside of GW2. Just enjoy your PvE farm when playing GW2. Go elsewhere to enjoy competing in PvP.
As long as ANet can bribe PvE players to play PvP, and the ESL players can get stacked on one team to gun down the teams of random PvEers, GW2’s PvP will never die.
It’s sad but the PvEers used to only run PvE content. Then they started to run WvW content. Now they also run PvP. Whelp, get used to it this is the face of GW2’s PvP now. Welcome to the new age.
I started to get back into League Of Legends, I haven’t played it since I made Silver in Ranked Team 3v3 in Season 2 lol but I found out they broke my Shen, Mordekaiser and Talon. /angry face
I’m also 100% sure the reason ESL players fight 1600 rating is for marketing reasons too, they wouldn’t look as good if they fought people in similar skill levels, it would just look like an average game.

I know this is a joke thread but in all seriousness it would be nice if it was:
Legendary: Esl Levels of plays.
Platinum: Almost legendary, perhaps good enough for team drafts.
Gold: Should know rotations and builds and classes well enough to make little errors.
SIlver: Knows 1-3 classes really well and can perform well in most fights but lacks rotation and map awareness.
Bronze: Newbies.
Currently though its sadly:
Legendary: ESL / Good players
Platinum: For the most part its good.
Gold and below: Everyone else is here from placement games dragging each other down with losses or 1-2 players carrying the rest up so they can drag others down when the carry isn’t as good.

Helseth did not prove Elo Hell can be beaten. He proved that ESL players can beat it.
Helseth did not prove that Elo Hell can be beaten. He proved that Elo Hell can be beaten.
K.
I have to say, the logical leaps and disconnects some of these players make is Legendary Tier. Too bad that level of skill doesn’t carry in-game.
I think you guys threw out your insults too quick but then again I may be wrong when I say you misconstrued what was said.
Helseth didn’t prove that Elo hell can be beaten (for every day players), he proved that he can beat it (at an ESL level of play). I think that’s what was said. Not what you guys said. I could be wrong though.
….. And Elementalist.
Things aren’t as bad as they were last season. Now that’s a step forward. The placement tiers need more but but sure are way better than what we’ve had. The classes are more balanced. You can’t really make this game perfectly balanced. Matchmaking is better but needs solution to pick right class mix.
The big negatives I see are around d HoT. Elite spec is poorly designed in general. We accept it as we don’t have much options ; at least till next expansion. Build diversity may return one day with signification changes.
I quite like the ascended rewards. No harm pipe guys farming it. Even in raked. I’d rather have a wider community than the niche pvp elites alone. Let them learn. Not having to get gear from pve is surely a bonus.
The set up of this season is much better…. But I feel there are too many factors that contributing to unfair games.
My perspective is this:
1. Placement games too volatile. Puts people all over the place, including the leaderboards.
2. Starting MMR is that of an Average player. Obviously there is huge skill difference between average players and new players just like there is between ESL levels and average players.
3. Matchmaking appears broken, I’m not a fan of 500-200 games. Also it appears I get fresh players in my games, I’m Silver and many times have people comment about the status of thier Bronze games, how are they even in my games I don’t know but I’m expected to carry that or drop to “where I belong”.
4. Being rewarded for losing – To me this has encouraged the AFK farm, it would be nice if all 5 players on a team were there for the win.
5. Class stacking – Although this one is always on the player to change class, the matchmaking needs to stop putting 3 classes on one side and none on the other, people often play the class they’re best at for PvP and dislike having to switch to something they are less effective with for the sake of the team.
6. Duo stacking – Putting 2 Duo’s on a team but none on the other team.
7. Back to point 3 – Too large of a gap in the matchmaking, Platinum shouldn’t get Gold in their team, just like I, in Silver should not be getting Bronze and same again for Gold, they should not be getting me on their team – Something so volatile has caused so many people to unrightfully lose rating points and IF they were good enough to carry 4 players up, then those 4 players suffer as well in the next match when they lose 500-12. Very demoralizing for that team, very boring for the winning team.
Reasons for wanting to leave the game and rising frustration:
8. The forums – Despite having all these issues and more, some adamant forum users will tell you this is all a perfect system and you are where you belong, completely dismissing the fact that no one is complaining about where they are but more so towards the match making and previous points I’ve put above this one.
9. Silence from the Devs. It would give myself and I guess some others some sort of hope or reason to play into Season 6 if we knew anything at all about the current situation from a Devs point of view. WIll they scrap rating next season? will they improve on it? what are they going to look into? anything at all would be nice.

Hi Dev team.
Just hoping you can shed some light onto what are some potential problems you feel are happening currently in season 5. I guess I’m seeking some communication from you guys before I and from the looks of it, many others put the nail in the coffin so to speak…
I’m positive as a company you would prefer a happy player base and an active one so I ask before it’s too late, can we please have some communication on what you guys feel is wrong with this season or what you may look into for season 6?
Thank you for your time if you choose to give it.

Go play a MOBA if you love fights so much. GW2 is about camping points, Player vs Door, and Points per Tick and running away from fights to avoid your enemies from having a chance of getting those I’ve said prior, and Points per Kill.
MOBAs are all about fighting %100 about fighting, go play those if that’s what you want.
I thought the thread was asking if people enjoy fighting bunkers and healbots?
….. And Elementalist.
I go point to point on my Nec chasing kills when my allies can’t kill anything in a timely fashion. (they have 1 minute or longer fights, they should just end it quickly) So if you have trouble downing the bunkers, try a Necro.

.Before I quit the game I have never dropped below 1800 rating while solo Qing only. I was always between 1810 and 1890. If you drop ddown to 1600 something rating while solo Qing that means you got carried to 1800+, and since your duo partener got offline and cant carry you, its pretty normal to drop down to where you belong.
He said he is Platinum getting matched with Gold players and their lack of skill is dragging him down through the ranks and you essentially responded with “git gud and carry 80% of your team”……
As others have pointed out, the match ups have a gap in skill due to population, a population which has drastically decreased this season most likely due to how “awsome” season 5 is.

That sucks, but the best way to avoid players like these is to block them and wait to queue until you see they are in a match.
Actually you friend them and give them nicknames, you’re welcome to block but it prevents future communication in PvP games and THAT will result in a loss.
Except the purpose of blocking them is so you can queue dodge them, meaning they won’t be in anymore of your pvp games, meaning there is no need to talk to them again.
When did the block feature stop putting those people into your games? I remember this subject being brought up a few years ago and Anet stated they wouldn’t put that into the game because players would abuse it by adding better players than themselves.
It doesn’t. It does, however, tell you if that player is online and where they are currently at. So when you see that “Whiny DH” is now in Foefire, then you know you can safely queue up for a match and not worry about getting that player in the match with you. Besides, wouldn’t want to crowd my friend’s list with people I don’t like when that is what the block list is for.
Like I said mate, it’s up to you I was only trying to help yourself and those who read the forums. No need to try and argue everything.

I feel as though you are taking things too personal between between this thread and the other. You suggested that traps should go away when the cooldown was up, then proceeded to provide examples from your matches as if providing reasons for that claim. You made statements such as your opponent being completely helpless to your traps. This gives some forum readers false information about traps and contributes to the uneducated complaints about DHs, so I explained how those players were in fact not helpless at all if they hadn’t panicked and had just played a little smarter. Now you continue with comments such as this:
Putting Dragons Maw half way over Test Of Faith is broken too, the blades goes through Dragons Maw and will proc damage 4-6 times because they are stuck ontop of Test Of Faith wall, I’m sure every noob knows and abuses these tricks though.
which is also innacurate. It’s not broken since it has the same exact counterplay I already listed. None of this is to suggest you yourself lack any skill. I am simply informing you and others that these mechanics are not broken or OP and they do indeed have counterplay that is pretty easy to pull off. This is why DH has such a low skill floor, it does really well against less experienced players, but can be easily countered by the more experienced players.
Perhaps many people think DH is OP simply because they do not understand how to fight them. If so, I wouldn’t want them going to the forums reading about how there is just nothing they can do against your trap DH and getting the wrong impression that it is just ridiculously OP. I’d rather they read my comments and realize that there is in fact something they can do, try it out, and maybe get a better or more accurate impression of the DH.
I’m just going to say you win because I don’t have a need to argue my own experiences. There’s counter plays to everything and counter plays to counter plays. I stand by my original suggestion and that is to remove traps once they have come off cooldown, it won’t effect anyone except noobs so I don’t understand your need to defend it since you’re such a pro player yourself.
The only thing I’m taking slightly personal is your need to start an argument over nothing in multiple threads and I really don’t want to be flagged again as Thread Derailment when I’m only replying to try and make this a 2 way discussion for you. I merely posted my opinion and since then I’ve had to reply to you several times over my own opinion so I ask you, what exactly is the point you’re trying to deliver to me?
If it’s “traps have counters”, then yes, I know, as like everything else in this game does.

Well It works for me and I’m just saying what I’ve seen. Yes there is signet of stone and yes people have countered the first 5 traps before but it still doesn’t change the fact that for me when I want easy wins it’s just a matter of playing 5 traps DH, spamming AoE and longbow 1. It works in Silver and Gold and like I said, it’s probably not a thing in Plat/Leg.
Well that’s great that you’ve been able to easily stomp noob players with traps, but it doesn’t really justify traps disappearing once the cooldown is done, which is what you suggested prior to your stories of noob stomping.
Everyone is plebs except Helseth…..
Yea after you gave your generic ways to avoid traps I thought I’d give you some more clarity that it’s from my perspective that 5x trap guards gets ME easy wins. If you can only kill noobs with a DH then I really don’t know what to say. Similar to my Thief skills I suppose, I can only kill bad mesmers or people who arent watching lol

But ranger/druid and theif’s traps work the same? Placed they become invisible to the enemy (unless you actually see player place them) and player can ran away. And then you’ll run into dual-triple ranger trap and almost die from condie burst unless your cleanse is available (fire + poison+ bleeding + knockdown
)
those traps are a absolute joke compared to DH traps. cmon dont bother comparing them.
Thief traps are kind of useless but condi ranger/druid traps are honestly much more deadly in the sense OP is complaining about. You walk on a DH trap with no DH near by and you just roll out of it. Walk on a druid/ranger trap pile and are condi bombed. In general neither are really a big issue IMO but I disagree with your assessment.
their size is also extremely small. you can cap a node and never touch one. they arent used in any working build because they are trash. damage can be high but landing the things is super hard. even if you drop them on a node and leave. you can also just dodge out of them taking way less damage. only time ive died to them is on thief and i just stood there.
Actually, they aren’t used in any working build because it is a glass cannon with pretty much no defense at all. With all of the immobolize available to Druids, it is insanely easy to condi bomb players with traps. However, I would get destroyed by any necro that looks my way and have trouble facing condi builds. And, though they were noobs that just ran into my traps and panicked, I have downed players with just my traps that I left behind.
I play all classes but I play a 5x trap Guard when I feel like easy wins because I know I can essentially place 10 traps on top of someone and there is absolutely nothing they can do about it. It does feel good watching other people blow up as they run to point instead of me. Then I just sit back and longbow pewpew and block spam till I get the next round of traps off CD then spam those as soon as they off cooldown.
Really? There was nothing that player could do? Funny, cause I’ve run into that scenario many times, here’s some things I did:
- Don’t just walk into an obvious location for traps when enemy had DHs.
- Used Signet of Stone and ignored the traps.
- Dodged right out in time.
- Popped stability and walked right out like a boss.
In fact, full trap DHs are rare for me to see but I love them the most. Know why? Because I can waste every trap they have and then kill me a very defenseless DH.
Seriously, this whole DH OP thing is very exaggerated. Easy for noobs to play? Sure, especially when fighting other noobs that just walk into a trap and panic. But OP? Not against any player that has a clue what they are doing.
Well It works for me and I’m just saying what I’ve seen. That’s how much thought goes into playing DH for me… No timing on anything. Spam blocks, spam traps and press AoE buttons, unlike every other class that requires me to use skills for a reason AKA: Mace block to reflect a ranger while not being close enough to anything to proc the counter attack or rotating through attunements for all the Elementalist fields and it’s finishers.
and what ranking do you play in with that DH tactic?
Silver and Gold, I’m sure Platinum/Legendary might be different but from my perspective the easiest and cheesiest builds go the furthest.
The tactic OP is talking about is a frequent one I use myself, drop traps and leave point. Sometimes I drop all traps on home then pewpew mid till someone downs themselves on my empty home node, I go in and stomp, retake point, very skillful.

If you want a competitive solo arena:
1) Remove duo q option. Solo only for less segregation and more accurate ladder placement
2) In game voice. This game is kitten without a proper communication. Also players in the high end will just join channel in ts together the second they get teamed which gives greater advantage to said team (which is usually already stacked). Having in game voice will level the playing field significantly and allow for a higher level of coordinated play.
Yeah i honestly think if a solo q only system were to be implemented voice chat would be a must, its too hard to carry solo when you have to type to your team where to go. There could be a rating barrier that would create longer queue times but on NA where during primetime you get +4 and -20 for a loss i think i’d rather just wait the extra 5-10 minutes for a q without lower rated players in it.
This would only possibly work in NA as most people there speak some form of language resembling English.

Comes back after 2 year break, dies against people who have been active, calls everyone noobs and asks everyone to be nerfed.
If you played the game actively since release you would know conditions have been highly over tuned from the previous “DOT” status to a burst status.
Burn was always a burst condi.
Also all non-burn condi builds are less bursty than their power counterparts.
Burn was the high damage condition but it never used to stack the way it does now, you could add duration to the burn but it was a steady tick of 700 roughly, not 5.6k a tick.
It’s now a burst condition.
You’ll notice that burn has a really really low duration compared to attrition condis like bleed.
Yes, it’s now a burst condition, like most conditions, like OP is complaining about.
I already had my whinge about it so to speak but I do agree with OP, I’ve just accepted it a long time ago and keep hoping for the best in terms of this game.
Burns also don’t need long durations, 3 seconds is enough to kill someone not paying attention to their condition bar.
Shortly after they made the changes to conditions, they went and nerfed Ele Dagger offhand Ring Of Fire because people kept killing themselves by running over the fields too many times but Purging Flames from Guardian that gets dropped on someones head from range remained untouched.

I know it happens, and I am sick of seeing it all the time. it feels like theres a d/c every tenth match and the match is just trash. These people either need to fix their pc or go play another game.
There’s ZERO punishment right now if somebody reconnects in time, so they can throw games to their hearts content.
Maybe 1 min is too small but definitely 2-3 should be there.
It’s not always the fault of the player though so this picture in particular would have resulted in 7 people with punishments for a server issue.

As an Aussie player I’m going to put my 2 cents in and say please don’t.
I barely make the minute and a half on a DC and more often than not by the time I’ve loaded into the game there is only 15-30 seconds left to ready up.

Might want to take it to reddit, there’s already a nice salty thread on there and your post won’t magically disappear like this will in a few hours.
Annabel is one of the best in NA and should be first or second place. If we keep this thread clean and come up with some good ideas how to prevent this, they will keep it open, and might even implement our ideas.
I think he referring to posting names on forums but it’s a top player so it’s allowed, he can even call us plebs too if he wants.
Yep that’s what I was referring to.
Also Annabel can call a generic group plebs but cannot single a person or persons out for planning. Yes, Gaile actually clarified that in Helseths post.
Yea, funny how this “successful” season has pushed so many away from the game and that’s what they chose to clarify. Not exactly sure why I keep checking forums for something either.
Good to know I can call people plebs if I don’t single them out.

Warrs kill DHs btw
No.. power war CAN kill dh. The matchup still favors DH.
true story war loses to dh easily
Signet of Might, Headbutt and Arc Slice say “hello”.
One of the main reasons I’m spamming Warrior matches at the moment is to instantly drop the hurrdurr block guards on point and spike the Nec’s with double stances.

Glad you enjoy it. Of course it got a lot better….Some are getting real salty because they finally discovered their true level of PvP.
Some people don’t get it but yes, PvP is a lot better.
Before you misconstrue or get a false idea of what this guy is referring too, there was a soft reset that mixed new players and vets together combined with placement games and different intentions of each player for each game, some are there for PIPS, others are there for rating. After 2 weeks most of the farmers left and by about 150 games your MMR balances back out so you play with roughly evenly skilled players again (there are still some games that make you grrrrr but not as bad by 150 mark)…

You should find a duo partner and join in…
Some really good duo combos in my experience have been:
Mender Guard + Marauder Guard.
Necro + Ele.
Necro + Druid.
Thief + Thief.
Ele + Ele.
Warrior + Ele.
Warrior + Druid.
Diviner Shout Guard + Necro. (quickness and stab overload turns the nec into a monster)
Diviner Shout Guard + Warrior.
Basically a Support + Heavy DPS.

Every Time my team loses it’s always because of the thief. I don’t care if our marauder longbow/staff druid sat off point all game and did nothing, we blame the thief.
Seeing a Thief die to a Dragons Maw off point, all I can do is call him a pleb all game, he should have known there was static traps placed off point, he is pleb.
I watch thief try and spike something, but everyone’s explosive AoE stops him from getting anywhere near the stomp, everyone cleaves, rez gyro is rezzing, thief is pleb, should have stomped inside gravity wells and Dragons Maw. Thief too scared to cross Test Of Faith too, and there’s lots of those on points. Thief is bad, should play traps DH or Warrior instead, he is pleb for trying to play something that requires skill instead of spamming traps and aoe.
/sarcasm.
