It used to be an issue before they made deploy|stow gliding client side. Before that, lots of people described the OP’s symptoms after defeating the vines attacking Tarir.

Since that time, this is the first report I’ve seen claiming lag for deploying/stowing gliders, whether specific to a post-event group or not.

Accordingly, since the mechanics works client side and since no one else seems to be suffering it, I’d look to something on the OP’s end to fix it.

I believe it’s not only on OP’s end actually, I have had that since HoT came out. I just learned and got used to refrain from jumping straightly but climb down to that upper platform first and wait the lag pass and then jump instead.

Actually, it has nothing to do with gliding at all. As I just stated above, the lag doesn’t happen “when falling/jumping” but at the first time the area beneath is rendered. If one simply climb down to that platform with a jumping mushroom, the screen will freeze for a sec (profanity filter kicked in here) until the area beneath is rendered. After that, one could jump safely with no lag at all, even getting a chance to deploy the glider.

Another proof I could tell is that one may lag and fell to death even doing the trick of climbing down to that platform. Once I went to do that but I slipped and fell off, then the screen froze and I had no time to deploy gliding. Yep, you guess it: death :P

First try to tune down your graphics options. Turning off player ‘nameplates’ is a good place to start. Turning off shadows and water reflections also helps (yes, I know: there’s no water you can see when you jump down, but it turns out to be a big help all over). [..]

Even though I believe there is some issue with the way that area is rendered (the whole HoT maps has such issues at release) I also could tell that lessen the graphic settings could help. I was used to do that at my first tries a while back and it helped somehow.

Sounds like you are suffering from high latency in general, because even people with high ping have reported that starting|stopping gliding is more reliable since the change.

It’s also possible that there’s an issue with how the area is rendered, but given how many people drop down that hole every day, we’d have heard far, far more complaints if it affected most people.

I’d recommend that you, too, work with support to see if you can narrow down the issue. If it’s on their side, they’ll need the data they get from working with you to help resolve it. If, as I believe more likely, the issue is on your side, they will probably be able to help you resolve it.

Nah, you may have misunderstood. I’m not having issues with gliding in general, it has been working pretty fine most of time. I just meant that at that specific area I’m used to get a screen freeze for a sec when entering there, and that can cause delays when deploying glide there.

Also as I said I’ve been fine with my workaround of climbing down that platform before jumping into the hole, but still I get a screen freeze so soon the hole renders. Then I just wait the freeze to pass and then I jump and safely deploy gliding normally.

And I see that not many people have complained about it lately, maybe possibly they got used to some “workaround” like me, who knows.

The rabbit hole you fall down in to get to the auric catacombs after the meta battle causes a heavy, like REALLY heavy lag. So bad i sometimes cant open the glider before the game has registered i already hit the ground

Oh well, I have been working with Customer Support on this for several months now. After testes and more tests, a lot of tries, we weren’t able to track a cause yet. However, apparently in my case it seems to boil down to packet loss somehow, but I’m still unsure about that and I have yet to test it with a different connection with less packet loss. I’m kind of almost running out of possibility and ideas about it…

Good question. I still wonder why it was converted into tonic instead an outfit. Since Wardrobe was introduced I have never seen any “clothes” coming out as “tonic” (except Costume Brawl stuff). Town clothes was the only one so far. Anyway, that’s a different subject, not going to derail the topic.

Please remember that this is “Material Storage”. Not “Stuff I Don’t Want To Spend Bank Slots On Storage”. Items that are not used in crafting or mystic forge recipes are VERY unlikely to be chosen. Sigils, Runes, Tomes of Knowledge, Boosters, etc are all not going to be chosen to add.

Yeah, let’s not forget it’s about Material Storage. For those suggesting Boosters, Sigils and stuff… if it would be added, think about what would happen to those when you choose Deposit Material O.o

And my suggestions: pretty much what others said but one I can recall from top of my mind is Pile of Auric Dust. I have almost a row in bank filled with those :/

Auric Dust already goes into mat storage. Its just so plentiful and easy to get that mat storage fills up almost immediately

Oops, my mistake. I wasn’t in game when I posted and I recalled it from top of my mind. There is one I was going to suggest but can’t recall it, possibly someone else already mentioned it.

Just a thought….but couldn’t these in fact be considered currencies and be added to the wallet instead?

No because the rubies/wood can be salvaged and sold to merchants.

Except this was the case with pristine fractal relics and they just changed the merchant so one pristine relic, instead of being salvaged into 15 normal relics could be used to purchase the normal relics. Do the same for Bloodstone Rubies and Petrified Wood. The only problem is that right now they salvage for a random amount and instead of being a direct sell x rubies / wood, get y magic, it would have to be sell x rubies, get y boxes that open and give you random z of magic.

Also if I recall right some mats were converted into currency but they can still be turned into “items” for salvaging and stuff again. If I recall right, there is an option in Wallet for those items. That could be a way for these items that work like mats/currency.

Here is an idea, maybe create Tabs at the top of the collections window so its not just one long scroll down. Can have one tab for regular materials, another for things like rubies, wood, blade shards, legendary gifts etc, misc things like that.

If I recall right, there is already a filter (popup menu) at the top right where you can skip to certain categories.

It’s no big deal to me, I’ll throw out the excess fragments when the festival’s over if they can’t make a key

I would advice to not throw away any leftovers if you can store them. Having 1 key that was leftover from last year saved me from having to do the even one more time today xD

Yup, I got it. But the question still remains… was it really a bug? I haven’t experienced it again and if nobody else does then we may never know that. [shrugs]

Of course it was a bug. There were several posts about it here, on reddit, and reports in the game. I’m glad you didn’t have to deal with it, but it was annoying coming on top of the other undocumented bug of people losing their bartender buffs from their guild hall.

Oh yeah, I was luck in my case it was just a slot that got cleared, I had read about that case with banners and others that had skills completely grayed out as if they hadn’t learned it. :S

Not sure if it was about what I said but I meant that bugs aren’t supposed to be in that Updates article and not that Wiki cannot have info about bugs. Articles related to the bugs has that info, as you mentioned.

In fact, the wiki used to include certain bugs in the update notes, because it is the only place it makes sense to document them. The page for skill X documents bugs with skill X, but it won’t document the fact that update Y removed the skill from people’s builds — that’s because the bug isn’t with the skill, it’s an entirely different problem

The point of a rule such as “no bugs on the game update page” is that it’s usually the worst place to document a bug. The problem with the rule in this case is that leaves nowhere else_on the wiki_ that people would go to see that there is such a bug.

Possibly because it’s recognized as bug and not an intended “feature”. As the edit description of that page says “Bugs do not belong in notes”.

Where is it in the Wiki? I have had a similar case but for me it was my first utility skill that was blank. I was able to set it back though.

Autoloot not working correctly in Labyrinth

The two chests may be specially scripted – they’ve got an activation time, similar to JP chests – instead of the standard world boss type chests.

However, it’s incorrect to say that autoloot is completely failing. It works for everything except those two boss chests.

I was going to say that, usually chests at JPs aren’t auto-looted then possibly these ones works that way too. (shrugs)

Mini map very blurry

I can’t see anything wrong with it. At times minimap will get a bit blurry depending on its zoom level. Anyway, if you feel there is some issue with textures you can try to repair the game. Getting dc'd, shutdown on wp or map change

By ‘shutdown’ you mean your computer completely turns off (leds and stuff turns off)? Cases like that are mostly related to graphic card issues, such as overheating etc. Do you get any prompt asking you to send a crash report? Do your system turns off all suddenly (like poof, screen black and comp turns off) or apps starts closing down and system shuts down as if you pressed the power key (log off then goodbye)?

Crashing only could be an issue with the game yes and if it’s the case it would be wide spread (everyone or the majority would be reporting it). However, shutdowns and the like are mostly related to your hardware or system then a further troubleshoot and investigation about your system may be needed.

If you need a quick assistance I’d advice you to send a ticket to Customer Support, they can help you to troubleshoot issues like these.

The main issue is the emote range. Say chat’s range limit is fine, but the emote one goes waaaaaaay farther than Say. As Donari said, a lot of problems would be solved if the emote range were made a lot shorter. As it is now, you can be a ridiculous distance away from the RP players and still “hear” the emote text.

I was going to reply about the subject but this is what I was going to say. If emote was short range as local/say chat AND names in emotes were interactable with those right-click option we wouldn’t have such issues (why isn’t the former a thing? Why can’t names in emotes be a link? If the issue is the formatting it can still be a gray text but an interactable link).

Why don’t you use the events for the Dailies? It’s a fantastic way to very quickly finish your Daily Map Event completion. They are no different than the orange event markers over NPCs that aren’t active until you interact with them. They award Karma, XP, and Gold as far as I can tell. They count toward Map Rewards.

They are just more events in a map.

Ah btw, when I mentioned about having troubles while doing events for dailies it was “before” I got that device, then I was like “huh? wth?” and it’s what seems to be causing confusion, people have no idea why that until they grab the device.

Considering using the associated content item completes the ‘event’ and counts toward map event progress, these events are like any other. Failing to turn the Content Guide on won’t show you other events on the map, either, unless you are close enough to trigger them.

Rifts appear in Cities, as well as other maps. There is, however, a left-over event marker in Divinity’s Reach, as well as in Black Citadel from previous Festivals. Those have been there, and shown up, for ages.

Content Guide was used to show events way over across the map (like showing events at very east while standing at very west) as long there wasn’t any closer between. Several times I had been able to track events on whole map by just standing at the center or corners of the map.

But due these rift events that feature got near useless as it almost always will point to a “ghost” event as it would be the one closer (I said “almost” because to me there was 4 or 5 times in a row I was “fooled” by these ghost events while trying to do dailies. Frustrating to say at least).

Still, those orange circle marks always meant “ongoing events” then showing it for non-active or “yet to happen” event is a bug or a poorly designed “feature” (sounds like “oh we need a mark for these events. We could reuse one of the in-game marks instead making a new one”).

Every time a new current event occurs Anet throws the info right at you, all you need to do is read the Game Update Notes. It’s always pointing in a direction where or what you should look for. Of course they don’t tell you exactly what to do, where is the fun in that?

I would say it’s a bug, or a badly designed stuff. I believe the new content thing should be marked differently then if it’s to stay visible all time. The way it is now disrupts Content Guide and makes the icon misleading. That orange circle always meant like “event going on right now” (stressing right now) and then using it to mark an event “yet to happen” or “going to happen soon” is kind of misleading. It makes the Content Guide nearly useless when seeking for any other event as it stubbornly will point to these “ghost” events instead.

Oh also I don’t think it’s meant to be part of the new LS because it’s only visible with Content Guide enabled or when too close to the area, and there is not any note or instruction telling that enabling Content Guide was required to do the new content. So, it sounds like a bug.

Actually, the exact same thing happens in other maps even not related to the new LS, like Divinity’s Reach. It keeps showing event markers where literally nothing is happening.

Yup, working now. O.o Weird bug indeed. I would say that mouse scroll thing is to blame but as you said other windows or even out of game stuff are fine.. I have no much to suggest. Are you using some type of device or special mouse/keyboard (I forgot how those are called) or some software suppose to monitor your keystrokes? Maybe the game is receiving a wrong/ghost input from somewhere.

Hmm, usually I’m not much into bringing up theories and stuff but something came up to my mind… This could even sound like “conspiracy theory” but.. [wears a tin foil hat] it feels like devs/Anet are testing some type of competitive stuff in PvE to check the player’s reaction regarding that. :P

First, the “bug” with that ley-line event where players were able to “steal” from other players, then the Mursaat Armor causing players to show up as hostile/enemy, and now this one.

Either that or some intern has been messing up with ally/enemy code :P

Nah I’m just joking. This needs to be fixed or addressed soon as possible. One of the things that got me hooked to the game was the cooperative nature of PvE and having a competitive mode separated from it. If this is going to change then I might ponder about leaving the game. Hopefully it’s just a occasional bug indeed.

Now gotta fix the miniature being hidden and never coming back under different circumstances other than gliding… The box even gets unchecked and never gets checked back…

What circumstances would those be?

I haven’t been able to identify what could trigger it, but sometimes the mini would be hidden out of blue and then never showed again, then when checking the Hero panel that checkbox would be unchecked. It’s like that checkbox gets unchecked by itself and then never checked back again. I believe it happens when minis are hidden due population increase, but I can’t say for sure and I think in that case the checkbox shouldn’t get unchecked.

Certainly that used to happen. I haven’t seen it happen since the patch.

If it does, I’ll use the in-game /bug reporting tool to document it so that they have the data to troubleshoot. But for now, I’m going to assume/hope it’s resolved by the same fix.

I haven’t played much since last patch, then I can’t tell for sure if I’m still affected by it or not. Let’s hope it got fixed indeed hopefully.

Yeah, I have just encountered those. I even said that Content Guide was fooling me because it would point me to an event and then nothing was happening there. Glad to see I’m not the only affected (glad because it’s not at my end, but not glad with the bug :P)

That’s a veeeeeeeery old bug and devs seem to not be able to reproduce it :/ There was a big thread (with dev responses) about it a while back: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Inventory-Window-changing-size-alone/4980931. I even posted there some tests and investigation about what could be causing it.

Yup, it’s a bug. It was used to show that icon before. If I recall right it started happening when they added bank back to WvW maps (or when crafting stations were removed, I can’t recall right).

Agreed with Malediktus. I don’t think that getting someone to work on forums would be an issue. Also, I’m sure that mostly someone who would work with forum and websites isn’t the same who develop games in the most of cases.

And, that wouldn’t be much resource switched either, usually 1 to 5 people is enough to manage or fix a website, if they have enough schedule for that. If the schedule is tight then yes, more people would be needed but I don’t think it’s the case here (doing minor adjusts that doesn’t disrupt the workflow wouldn’t require a tight schedule anyway).

It’s just that we got used with workarounds and using it even with its quirks, but I’m sure if they could have got at least 1 or 2 people to do something here since, per example, the first report for broken search came out, these things could have already been fixed or another system been implemented. It could be a parallel and progressive work in background instead trying to do it “overnight” (a way of saying of course), that yes would require a lot of resource and effort.

I’m very aware about how hard a complex system is to maintain and fix, I work with these everyday, it’s just a matter of management.

I see you have addons like Adblock and stuff, I would also suggest turning them off temporarily for that page, mainly those addons supposed to block Javascript. Possibly the page uses Javascript to complete the process and being denied to use it just causes the page to reload in a few cases.

I really wish that they would change it so you would get the red “Out of Range” warning and have it fail to cast rather than dropping dud portals. At the very least it should have a range indicator with the red bar under the skill if you’re too far away – like almost all other skills.

I wish it that too, it has been asked long time ago but the only thing that was done to help was showing distance on the markers on map (not sure if it was to help with portal or not, but it does).

As for OP, I haven’t had any issues with portal so far. Are you sure you are triggering it within the range?

Well, it looks like that it turned out to be due “packet loss”. After several contacts with Support and testings the last response was I seemed to suffer packet loss, and the Support didn’t say anything else so far.

But that still puzzles me, if it was a disconnect why then I don’t get the “common” symptoms like lag, skill failure etc before the screen goes black? Oh well, it sounds like I’m gonna have to live with it for a while…

P.S.: I took a while to reply to this thread as I was out of home for a few days.
