Anet still no word of Build saver

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: silvermember.8941

silvermember.8941

This topic is pointless considering when they added the PvP “build thing” the designer for it stated he was working on a buildsaver, but had some issues given the way guild wars 2 is. Then he ask for suggestions on what was to be on the template and implied they could bring it out unless it was functional for all 3 modes.

Stop running DirectX 9 in the expansion?

Arenanet COULD move from Dx 9, the question is why would they? I am not saying from a technical standpoint, I am saying it from a financial standpoint. I mean the ones complaining about dx 9 are probably not significant enough in size to justify the cost of converting it into dx 9. Companies will always follow the money, if they haven’t it means they deem it not worthy.

Blizzard had a 15 dollar a month incentive to move to a higher Dx, Arenanet doesn’t.

I agree with you that the lack of monks makes a difference, but it all depends on things like
- the size of the map
- how frequently the supply depot refills
- how frequently the heroes spawn
- how easy the spawnable NPCs are to kill

From what they’ve shown us, I suspect 6v6 will turn out to be the sweet spot, I just said 8v8 in my last post to illustrate that teams will be forced to split, it won’t be a massive team fight in the centre.

Yes but the objectives being fixed, in 8v8 teams will always be someone at any of the map’s objective. With 5v5 teams will have to make a conscious decision on where to spread their team.

Impossible.

Tho they rage-ask you questions and even laugh that you do not respond to them because you’re scared-noob.

This is so accurate lmao

That whisper-block combo is the worst, lol. You don’t get the satisfaction of a snappy comeback, and spend the remainder of the match feeling like George in that one Seinfeld episode (‘The jerk store called, they’re running out of YOU!’).

Which is why you put yourself in offline mode and avoid jerk store moment. I mean those really really suck.

If they made it 8v8 we’d still never see any team fights bigger than 5v5 – there’s just so many objectives on that map!

8v8 would significantly reduce the amount of strategy needed on the map. It will be more about the fights than the tactics/strategy. They will always be someone somewhere fighting. IN guild wars 1 you had to reserve a spot or 2 for monks, which means not everybody is a fighter. In guild wars 2, no monks means everybody can potentially be dps.

Looking around, I don’t see arenanet forcing you to buy it. I mean I am going to buy it because 60 bucks isnt that much money.

Edit: If you don’t ever play PvE then you probably shouldn’t buy the expansion nor should you even be playing guild wars 2. Guild wars 2 is a pve game with pvp features. Since I do both i get my money’s worth.

Your Edit is completely wrong. You can fully function in PVP without the other contents of the game. Many people have for long periods of time.

What you said is technically true, but that is like buying a really fast car and never driving it about 60 miles per hour, what’s the point. There are clearly better options out there.

You pve guys can’ t understand the frustation of being a pvper.
You can’ t immagine how much the gw2 pvp community is disappointed right now about the stronghold…

No, but the pursuit of Esports (hahahahaHAHAHAHhaaaaah) ruins the appeal for casuals and newbies wanting to get into pvp.

Except that isn’t true. All the changes (it needs more changes) have increase the the amount of casuals, the ones that seem to have a problem are the “hardcore” or the forum warriors. You don’t see many thread after thread of whining how “casuals ruin ma gam” from casual players. Or “why don’t you make a toggle so I don’t play with casual”.

Not having separate queue is possibly one of the stupidness things Arenanet has or will do. Way to get in your own way Arenanet, way to get in your own way.

I knew Arenanet was going to mess this up somehow but I did not expect it this far from the expansion.

I would definitely like to see a separation of both game modes. If not, then I think that we should have build templates to easily load up a different build for Stronghold.

What about all the players that don’t care about GW2’s pvp because they dislike conquest mode?

does “casual community” ruin pvp balance?

just a simply YES!

I say no. I think players on this forum have done more to ruin balance than the suppose casuals. The casuals generally don’t come to the forums whining about meta this and meta that. Only you so called “hardcore” do.

Since guild wars 2 was release people on this forum have whine constantly about balance. You complain about “meta” or new OP but have never realized that they will always be something that is the new meta or even OP. Reading some of the topics, you got players who dare say that balance has gotten worse which is rather funny. At BWE1 players couldn’t play the game well and ele were great, players whine they nerfed the ele. Release players start learning the game and a new OP build is found. Then we went through the d/d era, the necro era, the warrior era aka healing signet era, spirit warrior era, hambow era, the QQ era, engineer era, bunker era up till the celestial amulet era. All of these driven by you delusional “pros”.

The point being all of these the casuals had no effect on balance. I mean the very nature of casuals means they can’t come up with builds like these or whine a lot about balance.

The only thing casuals have been responsible with respect to balance is the thief (hotjoin) and elementalist (BWE 1) getting nerfed to the ground.

I think if they want to attract the max amount of players to Stronghold, they really need two different versions.

5v5 is too small for casual PvP’ers. But anything over 5v5 is too many for competitive PvP’ers.

Custom arenas are ok but it just splits the community too much. Two versions would be better.

A competitive bracket with 5v5. A non-competitive or casual bracket with 8-12v8-12.

The article highlighted that there will be some casual/PvE-friendly role(s) in this gamemode, there is no further reason to minimalize the need for individual skill by increasing the team sizes imo.

So play the competitive 5v5 bracket. I’m telling you casual players like larger teams. 5 is too small.

Casuals like bigger numbers because they want to slack off and still have a chance of competing, because the larger the group size, the less impact on each individual’s skills, so 1 of 8 people being bad is not as bad as 1 of 5 people being bad.

By that logic Soccer and Football wound’t be competitve because they have much more then 5 players on the team? You are using flawed logic.

Obviously, you don’t know what flawed logic means.

Not all 11 players on each side are active at anytime. In football (real football) certain players have certain roles and there are rules (american football) in place that limit the type of actions each player can take. Which means not every player has the possibility of being active at every moment.
In Football, the 2 sub rule and 90 minutes are a hard limitations in place that prevents players from running around trying to be active in every encounter. In American football, the size difference and roles prevents every players from doing that as well.

In guild wars 2 however they are no such hard rules and no hard role (no tank or healer only character, everybody is dps). Which means that player can just zerg to left and zerg to the right and zerg everywhere and zerg to the sun and zerg to the moon. So every encounter than end up being a spell slinging.

Choose to lengthen your queue?

in PvP

Posted by: silvermember.8941

silvermember.8941

A toggle option assumes eventually “skilled” players will be match up, did you consider the possibility that the reason you were matched up with “unskilled” player is simply due to the lack of them at the time of queuing? It also assumes that eventually they will be players on your skill level, which is a terrible assumption. IT also assumes Arenanet would be stupid enough to dedicate resources into something such as that.

In any case, would it be easier just to put in a match restriction on players?

A lot of the questions on here have been answered in the past already. So let me answer a couple for you so they don’t waste time during the cast; double stating what they have already told us.

1: Yes, you can solo Q into the game mode.
2: Yes it will have its own Q’s
3: Yes it will have its own leader board
4: When time runs out, if both lords are up, the team with the most points wins. This is how it already works in the event of a tie and how it will continue to work.
5: No, this is not GvG so stop saying that. It is sPvP.

What’s the GvG then? All I hear is Stronghold being the new GvG?

they are saying that because along with it will come a guild leaderboard

I’m still amazed that WvW people “created” their own version of “GvG” completely ignoring the official gamemode established in GW1, and when that gamemode gets a successor in GW2 they say “it’s not real GvG” because it’s not the zergfest they created. I’m just speechless.

Personally, I am impress because those WvWer (all 100 of them) manage to railroad development of the game and got their unsupported game format a custom built location for them to zerg till the cows come home.

I think it is because most MMO’s GvGs their GvGs are like the GvGs we see in GW2..
When I heard about ‘GvG’, I was thinking about the ‘Annihilation Deathmatch’ aswel.. Since all other mmo’s I played were annihilation as GvG..

Ofcourse, I never played GW1 so I don’t have this ‘GW1 GvG should be respected in GW2’ kind of thing

It just depends what MMO’s this current playerbase played in the past

Guild wars 2 isn’t like most MMO so that is a terrible argument. There is a saying when in Rome act like the romans, it would be a good idea to keep that in mind.

Wasn’t talking about GW2 in general but MMO’s.
GvG’s are the same in most MMO’s, which is just a fact..
Even when you’re in Rome, you still eat soup with a spoon (xD)

My point is what is done in OTHER MMO is not relevant to what Guild wars. This isn’t about what other MMO are doing because if it mattered you would be playing those other games and not on the forum of guild wars 2 complaining about why a made-up, terrible format is not supported.

Please don’t make SH another boring 5v5 mode. Also, do you expect matches to be longer and more dragged out like they are in Mobas, or short like conquest.

Actually, the quotes neither denied nor confirmed anything (at the time) – silence was golden. However you read in to it, as if they weren’t doing anything. Thoughts on open world pvp?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: silvermember.8941

silvermember.8941

I don’t mind it either way because I love pve and pvp, but I do mind being under a blanket statement of “toxicity”. I’ve met plenty of honorable pvp players and what gw2 community is most afraid of is “vocal minority”.

@Beldin
And wouldn’t it be a glorious day if you defeated that bully and sent him packing instead of cowering in your parallel universe. Nothing against you personally, but strongly against your attitude. There’s a worse things out there than dieing in a video game.

I’d actually like to see other servers breaking through the Mists and invading my world. At least that would give us all the common goal.

Exact that many more players would be negatively impacted by this bully. Also another way to avoid having bullys, is to simply develop a system that negatives their existence, a good example of that is NOT having open world PvP.

I like the concept and the fun it create, i also understand it creates camping and unfun “questing” etc.

The fun is only on side of the school bullys that like to grief other players and jump
in their back when they are already nearly dead from fighting against mobs.

So NO .. for the 10.000th time.

These games may work in Korea, but not in the west.

And here is an example that makes me wonder if the toxicity ad griefing might be not on the side of the PvPers after all. Calling the OP a school bully for expressing an opinion and asking a question ?

It is entirely on the Noob Pvper side. I have played a lot of games with open world PvP it is 110% not 100% a 110% on the griefer side. Griefers are essentially bullys in open world pvp games. Rarely do they want a fair fight, they simply enjoy ruining people’s days. If you want pvp, why not fight against someone looking for PvP, why attack someone at their weakest’s point. That is what bullys do and 99.99% of people who whine about the lack of open world pvp fall in that category.

Legendarys Easier? what?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: silvermember.8941

silvermember.8941

Grinding gold is easy, they are handing out legendarys now because social casual gamers cry. They dont want to put the time in to earn what everybody else has. They want it now and without a challenge.

Perhaps for those that don’t actually have lives but for people who aren’t able to play several hours every day of the year, grinding the amount of gold needed for Legendary weapons is far from “easy”. Some people want to play the game without it being like a job (MUST grind for hours everyday to earn enough gold!!).

Trying to make casual players seem like whiners is pretty elitist of you. With work, a wife, life, I probably average an hour of gaming per day each week. I’ll normally try and do a couple dungeon paths and other things, making progress on alts, etc, and that means I make a few gold in a day. A year of steady play like that wouldn’t even get me close to what 1 Legendary costs. As for drops, I’ve never had a precursor drop, let alone even have anything worth more than 3 gold drop.

I’ve been playing since the pre-launch and had initially hoped to work towards being able to get one, but have just felt the legendary dream get farther and farther out of reach as time has progressed. I’m no closer now than a year ago. I do hope that getting a precursor does end up more doable in HoT. With the current “ease” of getting a legendary, I won’t have one before 2020.

Hear here.

I’m in almost the exact same boat – sans a wife. I don’t have the time for all the stupid, insane amount of hours that goes into a Legendary. Sorry, Dark Souls elitest wanabes – but fact is, the game is alive because of people like Egg Shenen and I. Why?

I don’t have time to throw at a bloody game – but what do you think I do when I’m not playing? I work. Now, just because I don’t have infinite time to put into the game, that doesn’t mean I’m not a good player. On the contrary. I’ll school half of the Dark Souls wanabe legion in how not to engage an Engineer and here’s a hint: Don’t. I wanted a Legendary, so I got one. The only way the game would ever let me.

I don’t give a snivelling kitten if y’all bunch of high school tweenies want to call me a, “Credit Card Warrior (Engineer, thanks)”, but the fact is, with the $400 I purchased my Predator with, the some developer’s wages for the week were paid, some server costs were covered, yada yada yada.

The lot of you better wake up and smell the coffee – the game’s not here to provide for you elitests. It’s here to make money. And the developers made a very smart decision – side with the people actually earning money that will be willing to put it into the game, rather than being obstinate elitests themselves. That’s business, kids.

If it makes you feel any better, feel free to try and kill me when you see me rolling around the Tarnished Coast Borderlands. Go on. I dare you.

You sound more arrogant then the majority of people you make fun of in that post.

Coming from you, that is rather ironic.

my question is why did you make this gamemode, which in an interview you basically said it was for bads at the game, instead of making a few 2v2/3v3 maps which are fairly simple to make and a feature lots of people have been asking for for a long time.

2v2 is not a competive game mode and gw2 is supposedly balance around a team of 5. DeAth match has never been a good competitive format. Also 2v2 would favor certain classes infinitely more than others.

Stronghold, not GvG afterall

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Transcript of the relevant portion.

Now, Stronghold may sound a little familiar to some of you, going back to the days of Guild Wars. It may sound a little bit like an evolution, maybe, of something that you once experienced. So what do you do in a Stronghold map? Well, you and your team fight for control of supply, you spend supply to hire troops, and you (and the troops that you hire) assault the enemy’s stronghold. You destroy the gates to battle inside their stronghold, you find their guild lord, you kill their guild lord to win. Along the way, you’re going to find heroes that you can win onto your side that join you, and join the assault on the enemy’s stronghold, to help you win and destroy their guild lord.
So we feel like if we’re going to give you this experience, this next step in what people might remember from the original GW there’s another component that needs to come along with this game mode, to provide the entire experience.. and that’s the ability to know which guild is the best at PvP in the world. So when you battle in our brand-new Stronghold game mode, you’re going to be able to form guild teams. Guild teams are teams of players that represent a specific guild, and they register on a guild leaderboard, and as they battle against one another, the guild teams move up the leaderboards, so you can once and for all prove who are the best guilds in the world.

No it didn’t. Watch the livestream again. Colin said it was a new pvp mode, that had guild ladders. That doesn’t mean the mode is actually called GvG, it just has guild ladder support.

I see this ^not GvG and even if it was called GvG It would be like the GvG from guild wars 1, which from what i hear they are testing, its very similar too that. In GW1 it was two teams of 8, in this its two teams of 5, but i hear they are testing teams of 10 too.

“So when you battle in our brand-new Stronghold game mode, you’re going to be able to form guild teams.”

You can form them, it does not mean you have to to play the game mode however.

Guild teams are teams of players that represent a specific guild, and they register on a guild leaderboard, and as they battle against one another, the guild teams move up the leaderboards, so you can once and for all prove who are the best guilds in the world.

So if you register a guild team, you will have the ability to move up a leader board, and those guilds will be able to prove how good they are, but again it isnt required to be in a guild to do these.

To me at least, if you register a guild team, it sounds so much like GvG from guild wars 1 that this is a good thing, its different yes true but thats a good thing because not evolving this to be more interesting after having the same thing in GW1 would be bland.

Guild wars 1 had 8 players due to monks being required, gw2 no longer has such a limitation and the combat system becomes poor with greater than 10/players total.

Apparently they said somewhere stonghold will be 5v5, so the only difference I guess will be it will be open to 5 man guild teams only in basically a pve/spvp hybrid map, and hence how they can call it ‘gvg’.

I predict a big spike to start with and then six months from now a relaunch when it’s basically a dustbowl.

I’m not even sure who it will appeal to. Purist pvp’rs won’t like the pve mechanics, wvw’rs won’t like the pve mechanics, guilds will mainly laugh at the thought of 5 people playing for a 500 man guild’s ‘honour’, current pvp teams might try it for a bit and then avoid it, and pve’rs and pve guild won’t be interested past the first few weeks unless the rewards are amazing.

Opportunity missed. What is missing from the game are what the game mechanics push towards, which is 10, 15, 20 man guild teams competing on a variety of maps where being a 20 man zerg is auto fail, as well as interesting battles like the kurzon/luxon battlegrounds.

Someone will always feel burned by designed choice, but we do know for a fact that guild wars 2 becomes unbearable to watch when the number of participates is greater than 10.

We don’t need another hotjoin.

People need to let this go, it’s almost been a year now since it happened. It was a change for the better. Did higher rank players get screwed over? Yes, I was +60r when it happened, and it was rough. However, it was the way Anet handled it, if they would have just gave high ranked players something ( exclusive title, weapon, or whatever) nobody probably would have had an issue.

So yeah, it was a good change, just handled terribly.

They did give people something, they kept a system they wanted to get rid of. Keeping rank was their way of throwing a bone to people who enjoy torturing themselves.

Thank the six that you are not the designer of this game.

If it’s going to be another 2-3 years for another expansion it could be a good thing to have character bound masteries.

There is no indication it will be another 2-3 years. Actually, it seems it will be expansion LS, expansion.

Yes you could but it wasn’t effective thereby making it pointless.

A choice is only a choice if it has an equal chance of being selected. Guild wars 1 was jacked pack of worthless choices, just like the weapons. Yes you could equip all of them but they were no effective and nobody would choose or equipment it, if it did not work with their class.

If their only purpose was to grind rank they were going to quit sooner or later, so I am not really seeing the point you are attempting to make here. You are supposedly a smart guy, you should know that.

What you call terrible ideas might simply just be a difference in opinion. You assume your goals and arenanet’s goals are similar and that is not true. Also I really don’t understand the point of your last paragraph or are you just ranting?

Any time limit on length of match?
Can you give an example of the type of roles you found during your testing?
Can you find a way to better communicate the purpose of the map because a lot of Zergers were expecting another zerging map.

Hey all,

On this Friday’s Ready Up (12pm pst @ www.twitch.tv/guildwars2) I’ll be joined by PvP Game Designer Hugh Norfolk for a deep dive on the new game mode coming with Heart of Thorns – Stronghold. This will be our first in-depth in-game walkthrough.

There’s a lot of information available on the new map via our recent PCGamer interview, and we’ll have some additional information coming out before Friday.

We’ll probably be pretty strapped for time on the show because we have an entire map to show off, but if we have time at the end I’d like for us to answer some of your questions. Feel free reply below with any burning questions you might have and we’ll see if we can fit them in.

Thanks,

Josh

Nice!

I hope it’s not another disappointment, like the last 3 streams.

Note: I wonder why Anet always hosts pve streamers after their shows, and never PvP players

POI has always been a rehash of things we already know. I still don’t understand people can’t understand such a simple concept.

Would be nicer, but that only leaves 6 weeks or so of beta testing. Depends how they plan on doing betas (BWEs like GW2 or longer ones).

@Uuni.3561

If they didn’t care they wouldn’t be making a new mode or attempting to do all this world tournament stuff.

Unfortunately, guild wars 2 PvP is handicapped by the fact that it isn’t a f2p, so it creates a loop where they aren’t enough ppl to justify resources and at the same time because of the lack of resource people dont play it.

They are making plenty enough money from the gemstore to support the development. It doesn’t cost them any extra to do an official GvG arena for the hundreds of people that are already playing the gamemode without proper support. If anything it would attract more people to play it. Why not support something that’s already popular inside the game? Why try and re-invent the wheel by trying to appeal to players who aren’t interested in PvP with some and wacky innovative gamemode?

By world tournament you mean the sPvP tournament marketing thing where they tried to push the game as an esport even though it lacks pretty much all the things that make the currently popular esports so popular? The current top reigning esports like starcraft, LoL, dota and counterstrike didn’t become esports overnight just because someone decided to add prize pools to the game. They were already excellent multiplayer PvP experiences with extremely high skill-ceiling that kept people playing for years and competing online without any prizes. They all also receive relatively frequent balance patching to keep the game alive and players interested.

Like someone mentioned already, the GW2 PvP is as stale as a 3-year old bread. It won’t stop being stale by adding prize pools and labeling it as an esport.

They make money FROM the PVE side, NOT the PvP side. There is a reason why PvE gets all the nice things it is because you support what brings you money which is PvE.

They aren’t enough players to support your terrible GvG format.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

silvermember.8941

That would be a nice clue. Just one problem, that article wasn’t written by NCsoft, It was written by an outside investment firm. Maybe you are right OP, but kdbdw doesn’t have any insight and are simply speculating. They have been talking about an expansion since 2013, that should give you an idea of how wrong they have been.

Also you people don’t seem to understand the purpose of this beta, it really isn’t to actaully test stuff but use it as a marketing event. The information release is too far way for it to be release in august. It is more likely it will be release in april 28.

Tl;dr
That isn’t NCsoft report but an outside firm known to be wrong for the past 3 years about an expansion. Guild war 2 hot could be release between a few weeks and infinity.

i think it will be popular with the PvE players, and i am sure the PvP players will find it annoying. Maybe the people who have been begging for a GvG like mode might find it enjoyable.
its another lame attempt to make themselves esports relevant by banking on the popularity of MOBA games like LoL/DOTA.
i doubt tho it will be as poorly received as skyhammer

doesn’t mean it won’t be a cool class to try out. eventually it’ll balance out in terms of population with others.

but expect 5 revenant teams on PvP if you queue alone.

Worst part is, they will usually end up in your team, not the other team.
