The only reason I was hopeful that these would be acquired by completing the Living Story and not with tickets is that NPC allies were using them.
Sure, I could buy them on the TP, but grinding gold by any old means and then purchasing them from the TP removes any personal value the items could have had. For me, that personal value is basically all that matters.
Ya sure.

About the trial and error learning method, meh, I don’t mind. I’m an old gamer, learned in Super Mario Bros that jumping on the spiked procupine things kills you the same way. One death, lesson learned. And death is not even as slightly as punishing here as there.
I guess I just wished that GW2 would be more like Morrowind/Skyrim and less like Super Mario Bros. when it comes to challenges.
Rendering the player dead, impotent, trapped via mechanics should be used in small doses, but ANet has been rather liberal in the applications of late.
Artificially lengthening a battle via long periods of invulnerability doesn’t mean it’s more fun (IMO) especially in a game where different professions with varying build types are placed in the encounters “cold”.
Also, consider that Traits are no longer as accessible to newer characters now, so players are running around at 80 with only certain Trait lines fleshed out. So changing tactics may be less successful if a player has settled into just one general build.
So you wish guild wars 2 an MMORPG was more like a platforming game? Or a single player RPG? If you wanted either of those, you are in the wrong wrong place.
There is a reason why we have something called genres, genres give us a hint of what to expect from a game.
mario is a platform game.
Skyrim is an overrated POS open world RPG
guild wars 2 is a slightly above MMORPG with average combat.
Different genre different game play. Essentially, you are mad that the steak you eat at a chinese place isn’t as good as a steak house.

Someone does not understand the concept of “They want your money”.
This will never happen.
Yes. I was amazed to get a key drop in Kessex Hills this week. I get exotic weopons with way more frequency.
almost like exotics are not that hard to get. Exotics have always been easier to get compared to getting a key, which makes sense when you realize that a key actually has value unlike most exotics.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
I’m not opposed, but understand that the keys are probably a pretty decent chunk of their revenue, so the laurel cost would probably be a bit steep (like 5+ per key)
I agree and I will go further. I have 200+ laurels to waste, this certainly will not be a bad idea, since it benefits the players.
Unfortunately, like every dumb “suggestion” to improve the black lion store OP completely forgot about Arenanet’s part in this new system.
If you cannot come up with a solution that benefits Arenanet as well, just don’t waste your time because Arenanet isn’t going to change it unless they was a significant financial incentive to. So far selling keys for laurel only benefits some player, the ones stocking up on laurel, it will certainly destroy the value of the black lion weapons on the TP. And it will significantly cut into Arenanet sources of revenue and I doubt given the YoY drop in revenue Arenanet will be too happy to accept.
tl;dr
come up with a way that this system benefits Arenanet financially (don’t try to lie to garner support Arenanet has people that do estimates) or you better go farm keys.

It’s probably just RNG. This is the breakdown of the most to least Cores that I have:
1. Onyx
2. Destroyer
3. Charged
4. Glacial
5. Essence
6. Crystal
7. Corrupted
Couldn’t one argue that the reason why the last 4 are less is due to the fact that they are utterly worthless. It is a waste of space to have them.

I’ve seen mmos that actually had bots implemented. You could program them and they would play while you are AFK and offline.
They never had problems with third party bots, XD.
One of the best ideas I have encounter was to use offline characters to do chores for income. So you can work in a farm or something and return for some free gold, the only problem is it doesn’t work in a nonsandbox world.

Gotta love the strawman arguments being thrown out here. No one claimed ArenaNet was a nonprofit or that they didn’t deserve to make money. Some people just pointed out that some things seem to be going too far, kinda like the Eve Online players rallying against a $90 monocle.
I simply pointed out that I didn’t think it was fair to charge me to use a skin I already paid for. Feel free to disagree but please do it without the ridiculous non-comparisons and name calling. You may think I’m wrong, that doesn’t make me greedy or anti-capitalistic.
Whatever helps you sleep at night.
Yes, guild wars 2 is a cash grab, now what?
It is near impossible to please everyone especially those that hold unreasonable and unrealistic opinions. I would have to get every cash shop item w/o losing anything, but I live in a world where things companies need to generate revenue. The reason why people are mocking you is because you have an unreasonable and unrealistic expectation, I would love to live in a world where I get everything I want for free, but we don’t.

How does the application of a semantic term to the current economic system make any difference one way or another?
If the purpose is to PROVE that Anet has ultimate control over the economy of the game where they run the servers, I think common sense and a bit of, “DUH!” can accomplish that with much less posturing and wordy commentary.
That seems to be clear to everyone except Wanze. We all know that Anet dictates the prices of things in the game because they set the drop rates, the demand, and the difficulty in obtaining items. Using those parameters players then sell the items at prices that they choose based on those factors. This happens in every online game, and is not a monopoly any more than mother nature has a monopoly on earth’s economy.
Just because I KNOW they have ultimate control does not mean I believe they “set prices on everything”. Keep that tin-foil hat on your own head, thank you very much!
My point was this thread is pointless…..as in it doesn’t matter one way or another.
90% of the thread in this forum are worthless, no point trying to fight against people who think they are important.

300$ is peanuts compared to what I’ve spent in the gemstore over the last 2 years.
In Defence of the OP: it’s a big psychological hurdle to buy gems with the purpose of buying gold directly. Many prefer to spend it on RNG items to justify their spenditure whereas ultimately, buying gold directly with gems would have been the more logical choice.
Also a big psychological hurdle? WASTING $300 on luck instead of simply buying the item directly. Also a big psychological hurdle? wasting money on ugly skins especially 300 dollar, with 300 bucks you could buy the new One Plus One cellphone.

For a game that pride itself for not having a gear treadmill, and that ur end game was suppose to play dress up. Why is majority of the skin lock behind gem store.
I have no problem with skins in the gemstore, where I think it’s a money-grab is being charged multiple times to use the armor I bought in the gemstore (transmute charges).
I like keeping a specific look on a character throughout their levelling. With the green transmute stones i could cheaply keep the same look from level 1 to level 79. With the change all those greens were turned into a 1/3 charge so now it’s 3x more expensive to keep the same look on a character, actually moreso when you consider how few free charges you get in-game compared to the stones.
EDIT: Since ArenaNet says they like solutions offered to problems we see, here’s my proposal;
All gemstore skins should be free to re-apply on a single character in your account (the one who first uses the skin). For all other characters, it costs one charge per piece the first time and then is unlocked as a free skin for them as well. We already bought the skin, we shouldn’t have to keep paying to use it.
That’s is totally a greet idea. Let’s make the system even more complicated, I am sure Arenanet will be down for it, NOT.
This will not be the case when you can have your cake and eat it.
Yes, because it’s really fair that we have to keep paying over and over for something we already bought! Honestly I’d have the gemstore skins free to apply account wide. At 800 gems per skin ($10.00) they’ve made their money on the skin.
With transmutation charges normally priced at 25 / 600 gems, thats $7.50. That mean every time my character levels enough for me to change armor and weapons I have to pay $2.40 (8 charges) to get the look back. Yeah, that’s fair.
Not everything has to be fair. There is nothting to be fair about.
However guild wars 2 is fair in muliple ways:
You can use in game gold to buy them.
You can use an empty slot to farm them.
You can do PvP and get them for free. The issue here is in your mind you THINK you DESERVE it, in the manner you chose and you don’t.

yup.. never did ANET says those minis were going to be exclusive… you assumed too much….
Its not about being exclusive, but making them more than 10x easier to get. I fully expected them to come back, but with the same requirements.
That’s the definition of exclusive.
Maybe if you want to take exclusive literally to the purest form. Then the whole game is exclusive because its buy to play.
It is apparent you are either being intentionally obtuse or are a great troll. There is a reason why definition exist, so use them.
Guild wars 2 is not exclusive. If I wanted to play guild wars 2, I can go buy guild wars 2 nothing is stopping me short of being poor. guild wars 2 would be exclusive if only a few people can get in the game and there is no way for me to get it.w

I don’t have data to back this up, so I’m being up front that this is just my opinion. But what I’m thinking is that the gem store would do a lot better with revenues overall if they lowered the prices on most items. With many items being multiple hundreds of gems, a person has to carefully weigh if they want to spend $10 or more for a shiny cosmetic upgrade or a convenience item. Sure there are folks with a lot of disposable income where $10 here, $20 there, is no big deal. But for me and probably lots of others that’s not the case.
When I look at the example of things like the Google Play store where many apps are 99 cents, that doesn’t seem like a lot of income for the developer, but they can make up for it in volume because the threshold is low enough that many more people will impulse buy that app or figure 99 cents isn’t a major loss if the app stinks.
I believe the same thing would apply with the GW2 gem store. If convenience items like the unlimited picks were the equivalent of 99 cents, I’d get them for my characters. If outfits were 99 cents, I’d likely have purchased all of them by now.
TLDR: A higher amount of micro transactions could bring in more revenue over time than a smaller amount of higher margin transactions.
I’ve always though this too, that their items are priced high enough that many are buying with ingame money rather than real money. I budget $20 a month and I don’t buy the small stuff, the various boosters for example, since I’m holding on to gems in case there is an outfit or armor I want.
Which ends up working out anyways for Arenanet. Arenanet probably doesn’t care if people are trading gold for gems, since the gems HAVE to be bought by someone spending $$$.
So pricing it high enough gives people a reason to buy gems in other to trade for gold and the higher the price of the item, the more gems are attractive to be used for exchanging. Remember gems are not magically created out of thin air for the most part.

Actually only something like 1/10th or less of the skins are in the gemstore…I’ve read the exact number somewhere…but i can’t find it right now.
Yeah, and as far as medium armor goes 90% of the desirable skins for females are from the gem store… unless you love trench coats.
Strider, krytan and aetherblade are 90% of the desirable skins? Huh. What about cultural armor? Sneakthief? The three orders? Spend some time in your wardrobe, maybe.

Outfits allow for my creativity in design compared to having to make sure each armor pieces fits and blah blah and might lead to less clipping.

I dont see this even as remotely fair.
It wasn´t fair last year, this year it is though.
It was fair because noone forced you to get it. It was just a cosmetic reward for a lot of Candy Corn. If 100-200g or whatever the 20k candy corn were worth last year were not worth it to you, you obviously did not care enough about it.
Couldn’t the same be said about your rant. Nobody forced you to get it last year either so stop whining that it got easier.
But I suppose based on what others have said, your self worth is based on in-game items being exclusive or something sad like that. I don’t know, could be wrong. (ad hominem FTW).

Arenanet should ditch armors and go purely to outfits. OBVIOUSLY allow ways for players to get certain outfits from non cash shop sources (cash shop only outfits and content only outfits aka no gems involved0. Or just take the blade and soul route with respect to outfits only and completely ditch armor.
Outfits allow for my creativity in design compared to having to make sure each armor pieces fits and blah blah and might lead to less clipping.
I suspect a lot of players are going to be angry if they do that, but when are players ever happy about anything even something positive.

Way to make up excuses. Anet said they will take everything we loved about GW1 and put it into an open world. (I know this promise was just a marketing ploy but still.) A MMO game without rare and exclusive items will quickly get boring for people who play it for thousands of hours.
Also the prices of some of the minis in GW1 were that high, because some of them only existed in double digit amounts. Kanaxai for example existed 28 times. Rarity like that is exactly what we need in GW2.
IF you want to go down that idiotic bridge that has been burned multiple times.
Let me ask you this “how could ARenanet possibly know what EVERYBODY liked about guild wars 1 enough to put it into 2?” Because I can easily say guild wars 2 does in fact take everything about I like about guild wars 1 and puts it in an open world and there is not a kitten thing you can to prove otherwise, just like I can’t prove the reverse of it as well.
Let’ assume they lied, it shouldn’t have taken two years from the time that clearly marketing video came out to release to figure out that what they said was false. After all the beta weekend, all the articles it should have been instantly aparent that guild wars 2 couldn’t possible the same game as gw1 but in an open world.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
They were exclusive for a year. Thats more than enough time, so no reason to feel “cheated”..
No. There is never enough time. I enjoy items becoming rarer and rarer over time as people quit and new players come.
[…]And Scrooge McDuck enjoyed swimming in coins. That doesn’t mean it’ right of fair for others… neither physically possible.
You can’t keep countless players from enjoying something because they had an unreasonable cost for it that kept it away from too many players before.
If it was something that required at least a modicum of skill like liadri. Or time and dedication. Then it’ll be wrong to make it much easier to get.
And it’ll also be wrong to make it a once-in-a lifetime thing.
But if its just something that is only behind a grind wall, and the wall gets lower, nothing was lost. They adjusted the costs to match the reality of the game. The game was simply improved.
120g was not unreasonable for an exotic miniature. In GW1 rare minis were prestige objects, I dont think why everyone should be entitled to get exotic minis (5g, thats like doing CoF 2-3 times) for a pocket change in GW2.
I find it quite sad the most valuable mini is the Mini Karka with only 1200g value after 2 years of being discontinued. 1200g is only a small fraction of the most expensive GW1 minis in comparison.
Well this isn’t guild wars 1. Also it was expensive in guild wars 1 because most players only had only about 1-8 attempts per year with really really really low rates.
Also guild was 1 did not really have a global trading system for players to try and outbid one another, so the prices stayed artificially high. Also it didn’t help that the economy in guild wars 1 was completely kittened up after a while.

Lots of staff have been leaving GW2 in the last 6 months or so. Either:-
1) Bringing in new blood to reinvigorate GW2. Hope its this!
2) Reducing the staff levels to just enough to maintain the game, produce new gem shop updates and very infrequent updates. A lot points to this…sadly…
You mean 4 staff, two community managers, 1 UI designer and Sharp? is that what you mean a lot?
As for sharp, anybody that knows a thing or two about the job market knows that the only real way to get a promotion is to change jobs. Personally, I am impressed he was able to stay in the same company for 8 years, you rarely see that in the tech industry, especially in gaming where you are underpaid versus other industries.
UI Designer probably left because she is cute and the guild wars 2 show made her popular enough to move her beyond UI design.

A way to fix WvW is to accept that lot of player only play guild wars 2 get loot. So why not make WvW give as much loot as PvE.
So introduce WvW exclusive tracks similar to sPvP, but design in such a way that its progressives faster than getting WvW levels. Make the amount of loot and reward you get equivalent or greater than PvE. PvE will always have more players by virtue of certain players being afraid of any PvP, but a lot of people don’t do WvW because it rewards are terrible.

Finally, some girly weapons. Hopefully I can pick one or two up before the price raises.
how exactly are those weapons girly?
The design is very elegant and feminine to me, unlike the flame themes that are rough. I do have my female charr with a flame theme though, but it’s very rare to find sleek weapons like these with a girly flare (besides the lovestruck ones).
The flame theme weapons seem to be the type of thinks that a high school kid would love, while the tempest is slick, elegant (which it not really feminine). The flame tries too hard to be cool.

I see what Kensuda is saying, but honestly American Football is a 7 Billion Dollar business and it is similar in complexity to Guild Wars 2 imo. It’s the most popular American sport.
So I don’t believe complexity is the biggest thing holding the game back. The lack of free to play pvp, the lack of marketing, the lack of promoters, the difficulty in observing what’s going on, casting talking about too much micro strategy and not enough macro strat…
I feel like making it as an esport is like playing any high risk / high reward build in Guild Wars 2, you have to do almost everything right in order to effectively make it.
Actually, your comparison falls on it’s face when you start to analyse why football is popular despite it’s suppose complexity (it isn’t to teh viewer but to the player it is).
1. Football is ingrained in our society. Since middle school, most schools have football fields. So people grow up knowing the sport in and out. Look at how some high school teams appear on ESPN. Look at the big deal some reasons in the small towns make of football.
2. the amount of ads and culture warfare has made watching football something that men have to watch.
3.
There are other reason but these the the more common ones. Now compare football (American) with Soccer in the U.S and it makes sense.

ARenanetNCSoft does what is beneficial toArenanetNCSoft.FTFY
Is that what you tell yourself to help you sleep at night?
The fact is Arenanet HAS to generate INCOME in other for them to survive as a business. So if you want to blame Ncsoft go ahead, but it is still Arenanet that gets the pick the poison.

I think what we have here gentlemen/ladies is an “agree to disagree” conclusion.
Kind of. When knowledge hits stupid, knowledge can’t break stupid with more knowledge (because stupid doesn’t respect knowledge), and stupid can’t break knowledge with more stupid (because knowledge doesn’t respect stupid); they just kind of bounce off each other.
It’s not so much an “agree to disagree” conclusion as “we are incapable of even speaking the same language” kind of conclusion.
That’s why a majority of argument on mmorpg forum end up being an argument on definition. Because people arn’t speaking the same language.
I always hope people could just stop arguing about definition, and just discuss the context.
Most arguments on gaming forums cannot be won, so people have to resort to using technicalities to justify their points.

I was quite disappointed to see that my 2 week timer was down to a mere 4 days after getting home from vacation, without ever having used the item. Misinformation on the Wiki and a very similar item working a completely different way, along with lack of warning labels.. Bleh.
Wikia is done by players not Arenanet so use it at your own risk. also all other golems work the same way, they all have 2 week real time.
This seems more like a user error.

No thanks.
I have completed the let line, Phoenix, chaos and tempest collections already and I am very happy with the reward of 7 black lion tickets.
Leave the titles for somebody who actually did something ingame.
I say no thanks also but mainly because I am a hater. And I enjoy hating on people with more luck and money than me.

Mobas are popular because they are extremely easy to follow and understand. Even the concept of how to play one is extremely easy because of the minimal amount of buttons you need to use.
That is why it is an esport.
GW2 is far more complicated and extremely hard to follow unless you PvP a lot and know what is going on.
I don’t play LoL anymore. I still watch Worlds. It’s extremely easy to understand what is happening.
People think it is all because there aren’t many game mode or not enough maps. Or even poor balance and no events going on. It’s all bullkitten. It’s due to complexity of the game itself. There are factors that could make it more popular and easier to watch, but it will never be LoL because of complexity.
LOL this is a bullkitten.
I do not play lol but i have been playing SMITE (first person WSAD moba) and GW2…and i can tell you SMITE pvp is much more deep than gw2….a lot of items(not 3 traits based on class)…a lot of gods(gods=class, 58gods and more are realsing) not 8 class…..many game modes…1 change every week based on player feedback….and all this things overall give you a better competitive evolving environment….and smite is a FTP game. Ppl dont like gw 2 anymore beacuse its stale, after 2 year ( same age of smite) its the same pvp…
and….
esport = Electronic sports (or esports) is a term for organized video game competitions, especially between professionals.gw2 is made for casuals.
The ignorance is real.
I’m talking about the complexity of gameplay. Smite gameplay is not complex. It’s a very simple, easy to follow task. Players have minimal abilities to use and it’s extremely easy to follow what someone is doing.
Also, please..how mad are you right now? Judging from your post you seem very angry about what I said.
I always wished guild wars 2 had a similar game mode to smite’s Arenas. I feel like it would be nice.
