You are asking questions that nobody can answer and Arenanet certainly isn’t going to humor you.
The fact they are adding it means Arenanet seems to think there is an unfulfilled niche, whether that is true or not we can’t know.
Secondly, this isn’t guild wars 1. Thirdly, most people are going to make the new class, there is nothing you can do to stop it. Speculating about the future you have absolutely no control over is a waste of time then again so is this, I suppose.

First world problem. Worrying about a product for a company you own no part of.
Why are you worried about the expansion not being X. You act like worrying about it is going to have an impact on X happening or not.
Yeah how dare people discuss things on a forum.
Reread my post, I don’t say anything about not discussion it.
You are free to do whatever you want within the grounds of Arenanet’s rules and I am free to mock and criticize you. That is also part of a discussion (admittedly not very healthy discussion but this forum has never been about healthy discussion).

I agree, but Arenanet goal seems to be getting players to try PvP. Why not try ranked PvP or unranked PvP and if that is still happening maybe it is all you buddy. (your MMR is low or time of the day sucks, i am mocking you but my mmr is even kittentier).

I wasn’t demanding it this exact moment (: I mean we don’t know for certain if they would of done it on the site the way they did for the base games release where there will be a few short clips of attacks and stuff (: i know they will do this stuff on there own time I was only asking to see people’s opinions and to see if we could get any cheeky forum mods to maybe hint wether or not it will happen :p
They already said they will be talking about it on a later date. So that makes your topic pointless.
They are not going to hint it because they want players to hope this is the day that X appears. Forum mods are low level employees, I doubt they will be given such an important information.

I don’t know why Arenanet thought it was a good idea, but I suppose they did not want players to abandon something when their queue pops.
it is still a stupid idea though.
My suggestion watch youtube or netflix.

It isn’t just an issue of ‘Play X class’. I had a match where 4 of my teammates run to home at the start and sit on it for the whole match just to get their daily defender and capture.
I think PvE players come to PVP simply because the achievements are easier in PVP. I think PvE dailies need to be more generic. ‘Event Completer’ instead of ‘Brisbane Wildlands Event Completer’ would encourage PvE players to stay there.
Maybe that is why Arenanet did that in the first place to funnel players into PvP, Some my stay most will leave which in theory should improve PvP numbers.
The problem is that people with low MMR get kittened by it.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
That is exactly what they will do, the thing is they are running it on their schedule not yours. They are not going to throw away their main hook for the self-imposed hype train.
They will slowly release information as a way to make up the fact that this game will not have new content (might have a festival) for the next few months.

Arenanet would be stupid to initially include it in the gem store. Maybe after a few months as in 6-12 months they can include but not initially. It would completely messed up their box or digital sales.

Elementalist are Guardian are different. I have technically played the ele long but I prefer the guardian, it is simply more interesting and here is why.
The guardian you are reacting and playing in real time. The elementalist anything other than staff amounts to you being a glorified bot, following patterns and rotations that were created by a guy years ago. You are not playing the class, are simply spamming skills as they leave CD. It doesn’t really require active participation.
The high skill level in ele is simply the player having to develop the muscle memory to do all those rotations thru memorization.
Not really. Sure you have specific rotations, but there’s a good degree of skill involved in knowing what rotations work best in what situations. You can’t really just “lol churning earth” and expect to get 3 might stacks and a kill.
they are specific rotations. OF course you can’t use churning earth randomly, but it doesn’t take any significant insight into knowing that skill with a long cast time is terrible to use in a rotation and leaves you vulnerable for an easily dodged skill.

This entire conversation is irrelevant. There will be effectively no non-HoT players in the game a couple months after it drops. The remainder will buy the game or quit. This is a relatively fruitless argument about a hypothetical.
It is not a fruitless argument, because it may in fact affect how many players will quit.
Players quit for a lot of reasons, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do something.

so basically to fill a bar of mastery track I just need to gain exp like I used to? like kill trash mobs or do events in any area?
I’m not sure how that works. But base on what the dev post, to acquire mastery point, you need to do a variety of things, which is not what the OP suggested.
IT seems you will need to do specific things for that particular track.

yeah sometime i feel like watching anet’s manifesto video and when i do… i feel like i’ve been lied to cuz most of the features talked about in that vid never made it into the game
You know that’s the case with, pretty much every game in development, right? There is always things that don’t go as planned.
Not on this scale however. This game in comparison to the other AAA titles that have both been released at the same year, and that have been released SINCE have at least had almost all of their features they mentioned just prior to launching during their own beta. They didn’t cancel the sheer number of projects this title cancelled suddenly after launch. Most of them have had their launches have technical issues yes but what they were saying about what people would be able to do remained intact. This title however not only went through a period just after launch where several really great projects suddenly went down the toilet, but they also didn’t update the game as they had mentioned in interviews, and they had a second round of promises 10 months ago that never made it into the game where they only fulfilled 1 (the precursor coming in the expansion). There IS a difference here. There IS a problem with honesty here.
Exactly.
GW is starting to feel a little like Fable in that way.
Lots of great promises and then failing to deliver on them.Hyperbole at its finest. If you have to start comparing a game that has none of the features it hyped about to guild wars 2, then you clearly have issues being honest.
Yes, I disagree with you, so I’m clearly being dishonest.
You’re so right and I am so grateful that you’ve shown me the light.
Hyperbole doesn’t necessarily mean being dishonest slick. It just means exaggerating information. (the fact you brought it up probably means you know you were being dishonest).
In any case, like with all arguments on a forum, my goal isn’t to convince you to see my side. Let’s be honest, how many times have you seen someone say “I was wrong”.
My goal is to simply ensure someone who is reading this doesn’t get a half-baked terrible hyperbole filled post.

They couldn’t get away with locking the new borderlands map out from non-HoT players. Imagine if it was locked and you need HoT to play. That would mean arenanet is effectively taking content away from non-HoT players, content that they did pay for when they bought GW2.
Why not? Other games do it all the time. The ones who don’t want to buy it can stick with EB, even if it kills WvW let’s be honest here I doubt it will affect Arenanet bottomline significantly.

I’m curious what the impact will be to the crafting market overall.
The price of so many things is tied to the demand for rares to throw into the forge. It affects the price of rares which affects the price of ecto which affects the price of exotics, as well as other items.
I wouldn’t assume that making a precursor is necessarily cheaper than forging one (on average) because they are going to need to maintain the current gold/mat sinks. It will probably be more certain, but we really don’t know.
It could require clovers (RNG) and it could require Electrum – which, interestingly enough seems to give Mithrillium a second use beyond Deldrimor steel. This could push up the price of Deldrimor because people are going to want both.
t6 materials should increase significant in price since everybody can now do legendaries. Same with Ectos.
rare crafting might still continue but only for ectos.

It’s only grindy if the I receive inappropriate reward for any given event. For instance, Claw of Jormag feels grindy only because the event is not easy and it was not very rewarding. But ever since they’ve added the one-exotic-guarantee reward, it feels satisfactory to do the event.
My point is, “grind” is a matter of perspective.
Buddy that isn’t what grind means, what you are describing is simply unrewarding content.
Grind just means doing something repeatedly in other to get something you are required to get.

The more info they release, the more certain I am that I will NOT be getting this expansion. I just hope they sell the new class separately on the gem store.
Don’t buy it, then. You can enjoy the vanilla content all you want.
My question is why complain about gated content now? It’s not like the Mastery system is the first to do this in game. What about agony preventing you from doing high level fractals without getting the infusions? What about World Ability Points that improve what you do in WvW? I guess I just don’t understand why people are getting defensive about Mastery when the truth is Anet is not introducing something that’s a foreign concept.

Ascended gear is one of several systems put into the game because ANet’s vision of players repeating content endlessly because the content is fun met the harsh reality of players unwilling to repeat content endlessly without sufficient incentive to do so. Like it or not, MMO’s require a large population to make money in amounts that are sufficient for their upkeep and potential growth as well as profit for their backers. To maintain larger numbers, the segment of the population that would depart without long term goals must be catered to. Legendary weapons were supposed to serve as that incentive. However, I believe that ANet underestimated just how single-minded some players would be in pursuing their in-game goals.
I despise the way that Ascended weapons and armor are acquired. Then again, I don’t care for using spreadsheets to keep track of whether I have enough virtual materials to virtually make other virtual materials so I can then make more virtual materials and eventually make a virtual gewgaw. The process is boring. On the other hand, I like that the game is still around, and given the way Ascended was added to the game, I believe that ANet believed is was necessary for the health of the game.
I felt so bad for ARenanet at release. Because the players proved within 2 weeks that their vision of the game was extremely flawed and that players don’t care about content but simply want rewards.
I remember in Orr within a week people were running COF and orr continously for hours, got the full set within a week and promptly began whining at end game content. Legendaries that were suppose to be hard was also done within a couple of months because players just farmed the kitten out of the Asura even Orr.
The first few months of guild wars 2 was simply adjusting the game to meet the reality. A lot of people l ike to whine how they strayed from their vision. What those players don’t realize was that it was either kitten off a vocal few or eventually start firing people like other companies do.

@Eggers.5608 Preach it Brother! There are lots of things in GW1 that GW2 doesn’t have as far as character customization and what not. as of right now the only reason why i get on GW2 atm is to get my daily log in reward… other than that GW2 has no future for me. i admit that the mention masteries and specializations and guild halls has peaked my interest but imo those features should have been in the game since launch, well the specializations and the guild halls should have been.

Does this sound fun to anyone? It’s tedious and boring. And this is a system that got recently added into the game, reminds me of those Matryoshka dolls, inside the first box is another box that contains another box, etc.
Honestly, if I step outside the game?
Loot in any case seems tedious and boring. I haven’t had a game where it’s not been tedious and boring. Yes, even Zelda – especially Zelda. (“Oh, look, a neat toy I need for this dungeon and may use only once more in the entire game.”)
I usually take care of it all when waiting for something else to happen or when I’m about to get off.

They all don’t need to be as deep as the ones they have shown in trailers though. If they are I suppose 5 would be reasonable. However, I would be disappointed and assume the price would be half that of a larger expansion.

I mean, how many bagillion skills were available to players?
I don’t have the constitution to continue. Have a good day.
But how many were not simply a terrible version of another skill. Or were completely nerd due to their brokenness. The amount of skills in the game certainly did not help when most groups required a certain skills.
Then again I do miss how in certain places the heroes could play the game without any input, I miss that.

I’m losing hype it feels like it’s just going to be another version of what we have now with same issues. The whole replace a trait line just saddens me meh I’ll be looking what their group content really is and maybe try SH mode, specialiation was the main system I was looking for. Masteries to me sounds like just getting pve upgrades instead of increasing spec variety and requirements, basically our current concern.
Just meh hope they take feedback in their demo.
The demo isn’t going to inspire a major rework. It seems more logical to have realistic expectations and not get “hype” over a product you haven’t seen or played.

Will PvE give more value to support builds?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: silvermember.8941
Arenanet should get rid of certain worthless stats. And just focus on power, precision, ferocity, cond, vita and toughness.
They will have to come with clever boss design and balance this encounter super carefuly to be doable with every composition (5x full zerker,5x full support or mix of both )
In conclusion, so far they have shown to be lazy to deal with something like that. So no… more punching bags with no need for support builds.
Why don’t you give an example on how you would do it.
If the game is about killing stuff, would the stats the favor killing stuff faster be viable if you have the skill?
Unless you change all the fights to involve not killing stuff support stats are worthless. This is true even with games that have the Trinity, the bulk of the damage is done by DPs classes with support being spam bots.

1 – no, no need for the boost.
2 – i doubt it, like 99% sure doubt. there’s a lost of immersion breaking in the game already, such as every other class doing PS with a ruined lions arch and being acknowledged as ‘commander’ from the getgo. i doubt they will make a special exemption for revenants.i myself plan to make a ‘dummy’ revenant to get an idea of how to play it. delete and then make a ‘real’ revenant after i’ve built/acquired his ascended items, tomes, and other necessities. (the armor is built only after i have an idea of how i want him to run.)
Very few care about immersion. Some do but not to the extent you think.

TL;DR You are looking a modernize version of guild wars 1. You are going to have to get over it.
Looking at your wishlist, it shouldn’t be surprising you were disappointed. You wanted a guild wars 2 expansion to turn it into guild wars 1.
Your wishlist is full of half-baked and emotionally driven thought out idea. As stated many times a new race doesn’t add anything but consumes a lot of resources. Development is a fixed sum, so each new features takes resources from another, adding a new race that will amount to no more than a few days of excitement is a waste of resources. I mean the majority of people play humans even though they had 4 other races as options.
As for Templates that is the only reasonable thing you have, but the problem is probably making a template that works with all game modes. I remember a forum last year in the PvP forum asking what did players want from a template and I feel bad for the designer because every idiotic and mundane thing was request.
A new crafting profession isn’t going to solve the problem you seem to have any better than adding new recipes for current professions or even making the mystic toilet BETTER by giving it recipes that fix the problem you might have.

I want to buy it, it looks really good, but what worries me is the price..I’m from Russia and Dollar now is almost twice expensive than it was before, so yeah 60$ is like 120$ for us…not a cheap one expansion is not it
I’m with you man, here in Brazil the dollar has been reaching $2.5 – $3.0 for us, so we’re at the risk of paying 3x the price in our currency.
hah, i am in europe and they have bin outsourcing european players for years, they honestly think $50,- is the same as €50,-…..it’s more likely €45,- inc VAT…….
Arenanet is going to admit it but is not only due to VAT. It is the same reason why a video game in NA cost 59.99 and it costing a lot more in Austrialia. Also the same reason why my business textbook cost 200 vs only 50 bucks in india.
Yes VAT plays a role, but pricing is department on how much they think customers are willing to play. This is usually done by analyzing how much money customers have in each reason. For Australia since the minimum range apparently is 22 Aussie bucks vs only 7-10 in the US, it means that Aussie should have more disposable income hence kitten cost more. Same applies to most of western Europe.

I think we can safely say that a continual 2-week release schedule is not really part of the game anymore. My guess is, when they added in the journal and started work on the expansion, it because too hard to keep that up without sacrificing quality.
At the same time, I think (fervently hope) HOT is probably designed to facilitate regular updates and even growth once its in place. The regular infusion of content is one of the things that truly sets this game apart. Even if its a little less aggressive than every 2 weeks (even if it goes to once a month with fewer dead air periods), I think its important to the game.
Actually, that would be a terrible conclusion to reach about the 2 week schedule. There is nothing to support that claim.
Also if you were playing attention Arenanet compared the 2 week schedule similar to seasons of your favorite tv show, which can be inferred that just like how tv shows go on summer and midseason break Guild wars 2 season will also operate in such manner. The point being like others have said LW might be the vehicle that connects expansions.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
They are not giving you more weapons. New weapons involve far more work than Arenanet seems willing to do.
Also Arenanet has no real reason to add new weapons when they can reuse assets and call it a new specialization. It seems to me that Arenanet is going to save things like new weapons and races as a way to string players to buy a future expansion.
Also ganging up on lordkrall.7241, doesn’t make what he said less true either. Arenanet has stated in the past their desire to reduce the amount of skill bloats. But i think it still comes down to Arenanet not wanting to put in the resource to do it.
