This. WTF. How old are the majority of the player base? 12? Bunch of kids crying because their toys will take some more time to arrive.

Ah yes it is crying and whining when a game company doesn’t do enough testing with more than 2 months time in between the start of the Season and now. What’s REALLY sad are the people here defending something like this. There is literally NO reason something like this should happen, most little bugs you can blow off because there is no amount of testing you can do that will find them all, but literally the only thing different with the WvW season compared to normal is the rewards. THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT HAD TO BE PROGRAMMED, and they couldn’t get it right? It’s sad.

I’m going to voice an unpopular opinion, this is a good call. If its an issue, why should some people who are suffering from a bug be doubly affected, by not having their chest at all they’re afraid, and by seeing other people with their items they’ll be bummed out. Nobody has access to the vendor, everybody is on equal footing.

So once again, Good Call Anet.

You should always go by the rule, if I can’t have it then NOOOOOBODY can have it. It always works out well.

At this point, they need to merge the bottom 6 into the higher servers.

Why?

- Look at Season 2 rewards, it promotes server stacking.

What effect will this have on WvW?

- A large portion of players are going to stack the top 3 servers from here on out, for Season 3 and beyond.

Why?

- So they can actually get a small reward for their time involved in an overly long and broken tournament.

What effect will this have on lower tiers?

- The bottom servers will be even less populated, and just be a blowout free win match.


Look at PvE, its loot rainbows and candy canes all day long, all day every day.

Yet after 9 WEEKS of WvW, only the 5 most populated servers in their league get a small reward, 6th and below gets literally nothing. They can’t even give 1 skin to the less populated servers after 9 weeks, its pathetic.

What’s the incentive? Skill and effort aren’t being rewarded. Super omniblob server stacking zerging mash is rewarded.

Its pathetic, but its true.

Throughout this whole post you really don’t give a reason why people should be forced into a higher tier server…

Yes some people will transfer up for a better chance and a “good”(lol) reward, but there are other people who play to have fun that won’t transfer up. You can have your zergy blob that is only playing for the rewards, while those of us that play to have fun can play on the lower tiered servers. So what if the servers filled with zerglings can get a free ppt win off of them? Doesn’t mean you can force people to play the way YOU want by merging their server with another. Honestly I feel really sorry for those of you on BG, JQ, and SOS; it’s gotta be a very unfun way to play the game, but you don’t see me forcing my fun play style onto you.

I’ve been playing GW1 for the last few months and I find it incredible that people rely on their memories as the truth of all things. But that’s nostalgia for you.

The Guild Wars 1 that is playable now is a hollow shell of the amazingness that was around for ~4 years. And the reason for that? GW2, they stopped “expanding” on the original to give us an “updated”, “better” version of it, but it has fallen short. The gameplay, mechanics, and engine of GW2 are perfect for giving us a “better, updated” version of GW1, but the implementation of it is sorely lacking. Most of that is because the lack of things that made GW1 awesome. GvG, UW/FoW, Alliance Battles, Urgoz/The Deep(8-12 man “raid” type dungeons), Multiple pvp formats, EXPANSIONS, Quicker balance updates(more to just spice up the meta every couple weeks), and finally NEW SKILLS/WEAPONSETS. Honestly at this point I and my guild who have been with Guild Wars since the beginning have given up hope, it really feels like noone from the original is still working on this game.

I know you don’t actually play the game(cept sitting at the trading post), but that is exactly what pvp gives out now…

I’m curious if Crystin Cox former employment (disney & nexon) constantly has her walking this edge of the line, by creating artificial demand within video game. Instead of making the customers happy with guaranteed scraps in the BLC. Trying to test tube sales numbers like a bean accountant is not going to help either. It’s why some of routine customers are not biting into the RNG weapon skin pyramid scheme. Heck, if they guarantee the scraps I would not mind buying them; even if they removed the key farm from the personal story.

Just the thought of how many hours it would take doing the key farm atm for a single sclerite weapon makes me want to quit the game…and I had no plan on doing it(and I’m guessing noone else would either).

Anyone who doesn’t think the Fire field on longbow is broken has never had to fight in it without 400/s healing… Add to that arcing arrow and earthshaker for blast finishers to keep up a ton of might with strength runes, and you have something that is stupid easy to use but twice as strong as the next build for warrior and 5x as strong as other classes. Yes it’s beatable, everything is, but it is also MUCH harder to beat a bad hambow warrior than someone who’s good on any other class., and that’s what’s messed up.

Yes!

I’ve got a guild and a fairly extensive friends list, but I really enjoy meeting new people, and there are so many more people around now. I love how you are able to spontaneously team up with the people around to do events, including events I have actually not seen before even though I have explored the world on several characters.

Ever since the patch hit, I have pretty much retired my lvl 80/100% exploration characters in favour of a few leveling ones that had barely made it out of the 20s, and am having as much, if not more fun all over the place than I’ve had in a long time.

What makes an MMO a great kind of game to me is the community. But this community is made up of all people, not just those restricted to a certain guild or server. The landscape, the events, all this “belongs” to all players of this game.

You can rage that other players are trespassing on your “right” to do a certain event/whatever the way you want to have it, or you can empbrace the idea of a living world, where other players have an effect on the way the content can be played by you. I choose the second alternative, much prefering a non-optimal event with nice people that don’t play the way I expect them to, instead of streamlined, predictable farming of the same mega events day in, day out.

Since the megaserver, the maps, especially in the 30s/40s/50s, feel so much more alive again. You can actually meet new people (and every new person is a possible new friend, until they prove otherwise) all over the place, whether it’s in Rata Sum at the bank or in south-eastern fields of ruin saving some animals from the ogres.

I know that change and unpredictability is not everybody’s kind of thing, but I love how much more interesting playing this game has become thanks to the megaservers. If I want to play rpgs where the quests are scripted and only depend on my input, there is tons of that around both online and offline. I love the fact that megaserver has increased the impact other players have on my gameplay, providing enjoyable social interactions and unexpected turns of events in a way that hardly ever came up before.

This, You’ve said what I wanted to say in a much better way(I’ve gotten so fed up with the people against the megaservers that I become way to sarcastic to get my point through).

You forgot that RP is also flushed down the toilet alongside guild events. So no, you can’t do everything like before. It’s far worse the way it is right now. More players are nice, zerg are not. Megaserver could’ve worked if some features like manual instance selection were to be added. That would’ve solved everything if you ask me, and everyone would’ve been happy.

You can’t RP if there are non RPers in the zone? I just don’t understand this, if someone says something stupid to the people who are RPing, that’s what the block list is for. I don’t RP and I really don’t even understand why someone would, but I’m also not going to say anything to anyone that IS RPing, and I would guess 99.9% of everyone is the same way. I can’t believe the RP community didn’t have people being kittens to them before, so I don’t really see what changed. Yes the whole RP community might not get on the same Mega servers each time, but being in RP guilds, friends lists, the same server, all increase the chance till it’s almost 100%.

Edit: This isn’t towards you Asacledhae: I’m done saying anything on this topic. I won’t change anyone’s mind because they just don’t care, yes there are problems with the system, but instead of letting them get worked out it’s become a witch hunt to get rid of them.

Why should I have to learn to have some empathy towards the people that have been treated as trash by the zergblob mentality while all maps are invaded by the zergblob now?

You still keep saying “i couldnt do this event without doing x before megaserver, now I can do without doing x. So megaservers are good”. On the other hand I keep saying “I could do this event without any problem before megaservers, now I can’t do this event even with doing x”.

And the sad part, just because you did not want to use guesting or transfer to another populated server, you could not do those events. Basically, you had the chance to do anything you want, but you did not want to use that. Now, I can’t do anything because both guesting/transferring to another server won’t work even if I use them. I have no choice except not doing the events I could do.

That’s the true failing point of megaservers which ANet can’t fix because of the nature of megaserver idea.

I wasn’t going to respond to this, because I feel it didn’t even deserve one, but it’s getting under my skin so here it goes. NOTHING is more impossible to do now then it used to be. You can do EVERYTHING you were able to do before, and now other people are able to do more also.

Lol they only just gave guilds the “Last Online” function. Something that guilds really need and you would expect to be in at Alpha. Still many guild managing tools miss.. Rights, agenda and more to do for guilds like raids. Guilds got Guild-missions and an arena (just a location.. not more) for GvG that’s all the ‘catering’ there as. Strange definition of catering.

Oow and the zergblob are usually pugs, not organized groups. So no, they should not feel any pain of this.

EVERYONE would like new things with guilds, this includes small, medium, and large guild. And guess what you named the 2 real additions to guilds since the start of the game…and they are catered to large guild, just like I said. In small guilds VERY rarely would the last logged in function matter, and guild missions can only be done weekly with about 10x the effort.

What do you call 50-60 members of the same guild doing events? A zergblob just as much as a pug group.

I will rewrite my statement again:

- More is not good if that more is created by random players not by your server or cross-server community.
- More is good only if you are not part of a community and do not think to be a part of a community (since less social abilities you need to use such as talking/listening and so on).

And I think you are wrong about this. It’s all a matter of opinion, I’m just happy that after a year and a half of catering towards the people who like huge guilds, and the players that ONLY like running with their guilds they finally put in something that helps out my playstyle.

I have a small guild of friends and we do alot of different things, usually separate while we chat in Mumble or in game, finally I can get different events done on maps that used to have 4-5 people without calling my guildies over when they are doing their own thing. Everyone was just a random to everyone else at one time, if not for the district system that just threw everyone in willy nilly in GW1 I would never have met the friends I have Ingame now and probably wouldn’t be playing GW2 either.

I think you should just let them work out the bugs that split up guild/party members, and maybe learn to have some empathy towards the people that have been treated as trash by the zergblob mentality for the life of the game.

So this has been stewing in my head since the threads about megaservers have been popping up(the same day they were announced), and I finally found a thread that sounds perfect for it. When guild missions/teq/and the other large zerg fights came about a bunch of people(me included) wanted them scaled better so that smaller guilds/groups could do this stuff without joining a huge guild we didn’t like. We were all basically told our way of playing is wrong and to find a large guild so we could do this stuff. I’m finally getting a chance to turn that around, maybe all the people in these large guilds that can’t get everyone into the megaserver should think about joining a smaller guild with better quality people?

Back on Topic, I love the new megaservers, I’m finally doing another map completion and it’s much more fun now that I see people do events/hearts/etc. There are a few problems, 1 being an easier way to get everyone from your guild into a single megaserver easier(or it just automatically putting you in the same one). I think just like if you right click on a party member and Join in, there should be a right click option in the guild list to Join in. Would save a ton of time getting everyone onto the same server when you can just say, everyone Join in on _. But other than that I haven’t really seen any other problems with megaservers that can’t be fixed with party up, or do a different event.

I think an easy way for anet to let us get into the same megaserver as our guildies is to add a Join In option on the guild panel when you are in the same zone as a guildie, it would allow guilds get more than just 5 people into the same zone easily.

I don’t think ANet considered any consequence of Megaservers whatsoever beyond “well low-population servers will get more players!!!!!”

  • Server communities are getting wrecked. All talk about seeing players from your world/guild… just talk. Doesn’t happen. Just like overflows, megaservers are created by the time you zoned into the map and nothing else matters.
  • No way to communicate with players about events that won’t be on the same map. If I wanted to do a world event, I used to be able to go to Lion’s Arch (or Gendarran Fields in the past few weeks) and ask people if they wanted to do it with me, and we could all zone into the map and do the event. If something interesting was happening in WvW during off hours, I could pop into the hub map and get people to come into WvW with me. This is now impossible.
  • World bosses other than Tequatl and Wurm are now pointless. You can literally afk while autoattacking, take little to no damage, and be done in less than thirty seconds for almost every world boss.
  • Anyone without a high-end PC is screwed because there are constantly stupid numbers of players on the map if anything’s happening.
  • All waypoints that can be contested show as contested, forcing either double waypoint fees or frustratingly long walks between areas. You can’t know whether a dungeon is going to be open or not until you reach the map.
  • If you’re trying to avoid a player that you’ve been in conflict with, it is now impossible, because servers are meaningless and you could be zoned into a map with that player at any time regardless of server, no matter what time of day.

No one asked for this. No one wanted this. No one is fooled by the PRspeak. Megaservers are trash. Get them out of the game.

Actually people have been asking for something similar since the very beginning of the game sooo. Of course the system is going to need a few tweaks, including the amount of times the big bosses start up a day, and none of the cities should be megaservers or at the very least /Team chat should be server specific so that if you go into any map you can call out WvW or other thing to just your server. So you should stop talking for everyone else it makes you look ignorant.

Also all the Guilds doing guild missions with more than 20 Members participating will have the same problem. Especially if they come from different servers like in my own guild. We also want that to be fixed.
So basicly we all want the same thing. No need to call dibs on it.

Offtopic:
One good thing, in about three weeks will be the release of an new game i can look forward too.

This is completely wrong…it’s not like the megaserver puts you in the same zone as with the other members by first priority or anything… And please leave if something so good for the rest of the game can make you ragequit.

doesn’t ranked play already use a hidden MMR? and you’re matched with ppl near your mmr anyways, if you’re getting a ton of baddies, it’s because your mmr is supposividely low.

However this is wrong. People who have never entered tournament que before start with a 100% MMR and if they lose it goes down. So basically if you have a higher than average MMR because you are a good player you are likely going to continuously get matched against players that have never entered a ranked match before. And the brand new players that start off with winning streaks likely get them because they got matched with such high players that carried them or the other team just had so many more new players.

In short players STARTING with a 100% MMR is toxic and bad. If you are going to match players based solely on MMR then I suggest a minimum number of tournament games played before you actually are matched against players based on MMR. That way new players will be matched against new players because they have absolutely no MMR.

And I can say it becomes really hard to get out of the 90% range with the MMR as it currently stands. I’ve gone 10 wins in a row to only get to rank ~950 and 1 loss sets me back down to 90%. It really is an MMR hell atm.

no counter to stealth, zero interest in balancing OP class bursts, obviously, not enough.

Not too long ago, i was hit with 13k backstab, 7k heartseeker, 10k cloak and dagger.. how is the balance patch not enough?

Run toughness if you can’t dodge. I mean really I’ve never gotten hit for all that, and I run full zerker on every character.

Man so hard to double click before hitting the Play Now button, holy crap people. The pvp build will keep your sigils so all you literally have to do is double click the weapons you want to use before hitting play now.

Didn’t state that they did add it either. Anyways, just because there is an influx of people doesn’t necessarily mean they rolled out megaservers for cities yet. I’m sure there are an additional influx of people simply because it’s patch day and many players and people who have taken breaks are interested to see what ANet has done to the game. Also people are probably in cities, either buying or selling items affected by the patch, retraiting, looking at new skills and figuring out the new wardrobe

/sigh, people have asked what servers everyone are from, and the answers are usually pretty spread out(not guested either).

Or maybe, and I’m just basing this on personal production experience yet not game related, you do something like this:

Everyone arrives at work. You have a morning briefing to make sure everyone is on the same page and knows what to expect. You then go through some last minute QA stuff and do some final tests. Then you brief everyone when it is ready to launch one last time make sure everyone is on the same page. You have to keep in mind that patches such as these include everyone from customer support, designers, techs and so forth, people from all disciplines within the agency. Everyone needs to be on the same page in order to make it as seamless as possible and to be prepared for any problems that apply after the product is released.

It makes sense to make sure everyone from Anet involved in the patch is up and ready to go. This can take time.

This, I’m just basing my thought on common sense though. They have to make sure EVERYONE in the building is ready for anything to go wrong, and that usually starts with multiple meetings and lots of repetitive “You NEED to do this if THAT happens, and do it quickly.”.

yay this means with being rank 49 it will translate to 65 or so plus 5 free charges and that means i can spend all my charges and be able to wear all the gear I’m already wearing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw, has anybody every thought of this:
For the future, you probably will earn lvl 80 exotcis via the reward tracks.
This means, if you are only playing with a lvl 2 (or any below 80) char, you will have to spend transmutation charges EVERY. kittenIN. TIME. when you want to use a skin.
Only if you have a lvl 80 char, it will be able to wear those things without any transmutation charges.

I love how ANet promoted this “big” pvp patch, when in fact it is the biggest scam ever happened to pvp.

You really need to learn what features are. A whole new reward system is a FEATURE. Therefore, feature patch.

  • Use a LVL 20 scroll right after starter quest.
  • Level each craft to 400 (20 + 7*8 = 76) (materials will cost you roughly 20g)
  • Run Champ train in Frostgorge for a few hours and you will be 80.

You are welcome for me ruining IMO the best part of GW2 for you.

FTFY, some of us hate the leveling aspect because it means we can’t do what we like aka dungeons/wvw.

Rewards Worth It?

I decided to give PvP a whirl today, and I admit I was…underwhelmed, to be honest. Oh, the fighting was fun, don’t get me wrong. But when it came time to start dishing out rewards, I was getting piddly little materials and the like. The coins were generally larger lump sums that individual kills in PvE, but just barely even with what I could get for just roaming for a bit and harvesting materials.

Now, I know I’m just a piddly little rabbit right now, but do the rewards improve substantially? Or will I just be accumulating the same sort of gains I could get for hanging out in Orr for a few minutes? I understand why they did away with Glory, but is there anything that is supposed to replace it? Or did I miss picking up something when it was handed to me?

Tomorrow they are implementing reward tracks that will dish out rewards at what sounds like a pretty good pace.

Some work was done to address this issue. Once the feature patch is released you will need to play a few matches in order for the achievement rank to match parity with your actual rank.

This is awesome news. Always kinda sucked that the symbol on the character select screen was always at least 1 type behind.

Everyone complains about fair match ups / it’s numbers not skill.

The truth is people are better than others at games.

My server has had the outmanned buff on eternal most of this week. We still destroy enemy zergs and hold our side. Plus we take sm all the time also.

We might take a beating on off hours but we hold our own.

We have all commanders defend each other , just tonight we fended off a map que in garrison because of quick responses. Left 5 defenders in eternal .. 1 in each tower.

But you won’t accept that as proof. Come up with some complicated explanation why your point is so much better than everyone’s. How anet doesn’t love you, your commanders don’t know what they are doing, wvw is unbalanced.

Had someone tell me today that all commanders are kittens and that commander tags was the worst thing brought into the game. Just garbage

Step up or shut up IMO.

That being said maybe anet can introduce a 20vs20 spvp arena cause that seems to be what you want

We all know Yaks Bend is the best server number for number though, so it’s an outlier case.

It’s not competitive though, it’s just not. Competitive means equal play on both ends, but you got servers that just have WAY more coverage than others, so some fights end as straight up blowouts.

There needs to be more restrictions against zergballing and night-capping, it just needs it.

He’s not saying that there doesn’t need to be restrictions on either of those things, but that doesn’t change the fact that the change proposed here won’t do anything to help those, and is in general a really bad idea.

To be fair, yes there will be a skill level discrepancy and more than likely simply because these lower tiered server/guilds have not had exposure….don’t forget, we were all noobs at one time or another.

I must admit, I would LOVE to see an updated distribution of wealth chart for the GW2 player base.

This would go such a long ways. I do fear however that it would not be pretty. Remember how the equality of the economy was boasted back we got one? Typically things that are not beneficial are not boasted….ie…if JS and Anet claimed it was a positive then, why wouldn’t it be so now?

And I quote JS:

while the GW2 economy is young, we hope to maintain a high level of equality.

Now why would they hope to maintain equality, yet indulge something that results in the opposite?

Only 2 reasons there was even a little equality at the start of the game:
1. Everyone started out with nothing so people had to work to make that little bit.

2. Bots, I wish they were still everywhere(first time I have ever said this in a game) because it kept supply up for fine mats.

But JS doesn’t want an even halfway “equal” economy, he wants an “interesting” economy and IMO that’s not good for anyone except the super rich.

Say a player has completed a dungeon reward track in PvP once the Feature pack has gone live and earned all its rewards, in two weeks when that specific dungeon track is yet again available to progress through, will that player be able to go through the track and earn its rewards again?

i.e. effectively earning that dungeons entire set of weapons and armor sets over a long period of time.

Yup, they said on the ready up that there are repeatable reward tracks(dungeons and regions) and single time ones(balthazar carapace). So if you do the dungeon story you can do the reward track over and over if you want.

I think it’s far more reasonable for these high rank players (I’m not one since I’m only rank 43) to complain than for people like you to kitten all over their complaints. How does it hurt YOU in any way for these high ranked players to get some compensation?

Go look in the mirror for this toxicity in the community that you speak of.

FYI I was on their side that they deserved compensation for the amount they played…for about 4 days. Blame the people QQing for my change.
