im either sleeping or watching tv at 2am :P
Everytime ive done it on vabbi or another low pop server 1 or 2 bots or leeches come along at the end. You can almost full solo them but it would be nice to have them instanced aswell.
Beserker is not best for being bad.
Crit damage is a highly overated stat. And due to strength of undeath only being a 5% boost (not perma on the DS build either) the damage potential is quite a bit lower. The advantage it has in pvp and wvw is because you are not reliant on external sources for crit chance. And buffing is somewhat neglected in those gametypes or theres just not time.
If you dont care about min maxing then 30/10 should be fine for dungeons. You lose quite alot but if you dont want to switch its not going to be a huge issue or a huge damage loss. It would be big enough for me to get annoyed and notice the difference though.

A few small things could be changed on the necro to make them fit the meta. Make furious demise group fury. Give us a cleave melee weapon. Improve vuln capabilities. Give us blast finishers on axe 3 and warhorn 4.
You give us group fury and you make us a good fury source for the group. No need for eles to take persisting flames on LH builds so they can take more dmg modifiers.
Reworking pve to make chill, weakness and fear more useful is far too big an ask to make necros viable. The best way is to get the necro some small changes which allow it to fit the current meta better. And hopefully with new boss encounters, control conditions will start to be a bit more effective aswell.
Massive flaw in your calculations. You included fury but you didnt include banner of discipline and banner of strength. In a group with perma fury, banner of discipline and appropriate food you get 83% crit chance. With perception stacks you have over 95% crit chance. At these points you would be very unlucky to miss a crit on life blast so the modifiers are what makes them hit harder. Over a long period of time you may hit for less with life blasts due to a few missed crits but 30/25 should provide the biggest numbers and also provides far better sustained dps with dagger. If I ever get round to doing a high hit video on mage crusher for necro it will be with 30/25.
Im not sure how you managed to calculate that life blast pulls ahead if it hits more than once. Dagger auto can be completed in 2 seconds and is over twice the damage of a single life blast in 1.5 seconds.
Also I assume you know this already but I thought id mention it anyway. Effective power is not useful for comparison when using different methods of attack (dagger vs life blast).
They need to instance statue of dwayna and risen priest of melandru. :P

Video doesnt exist apparently. :<
Yeah if this is comparing solo difficulty than mesmer and necro both have a hard time with phase 1. Mesmer is easy after phase 1. Necro is easy in phase 2 but you have to be very careful in phase 3.
If this is a thread for melee in a group then all classes have a complete faceroll time in phase 1 and phase 2. Some classes may be at a disadvantage in phase 3 depending on what they bring, how many defensive options they have and if they have low hp pools. But in general, group difficulty between classes is determined by your experience with the class and not the class itself. If you know how to melee lupi on any class you should be able to do it on all classes in a group with little to no problems.
I do plan to do an all necro speed kill at some point but it wont be minions if its going to be a speed kill.
Cant we all just be friends? :<
You miss the point though. My build stacks more damage modifiers and in a decent group you should be close to 100% crit chance. So lifeblasts will hit harder potentially. There is no reason to take deathly perception unless you have low crit chance and are doing wvw/pvp.
Power necros have absolutely no problem dealing with locusts. In my opinion necro still has the hardest time (without endurance food). Aside of that, all professions have it fairly easy.
Depends on your locust rng. If you’re like me and get 3 locusts at once about 3 times in a row then it gets hard to deal with them.
(edited by spoj.9672)
You can use axe and/or DS for range on my build and you will get more dps aswell.
Necro: No cleave on phase 1 makes it even worse than mesmer for dealing with locusts. Completely reliant on dodges and energy sigils in all phases. DS can be used to tank some hits but you can be killed through it pretty easily. Id probably say its the hardest class to do it on. 4/5 or 5/5 difficulty imo. Sword ranger might be harder?

You dont have enough dps with any class afaik. You have to rally yourself a few times.
For mai trin we prefer to have warriors with axe warhorn and shake it off. A guard helps aswell. But really you only need one low cd condi remove for the bleeds and group swiftness to help mesmers or whatever in the barrage phase. Melee is pretty easy once your familiar with her aswell.
Im gonna go quote the very person who made that build.
“There is no best build, only best at…”
And as much as i hate that quote its somewhat true. That build however is not the best beserker build for pve thats for sure. Maybe for pvp or wvw. But definately not pve. Best is subjective. I consider best as being the most effective and efficient which certainly wouldnt be a DS camping build.
You should use staff for skipping and thats about it. Chaos storm is ok for an opening skill if you dont need a second offhand. But for the most part staff is useless in combat.
Short answer would be that boons > conditions. And buffing > debuffing. Also the lack of a melee cleave weapon and the very selfish nature of the class doesnt help.
Some debuffing is good but the kind necro has (wide variety of control conditions) isnt needed. And the stuff like vuln and blinds which are good and needed can be done better by other classes.
Way to stereotype experienced players.
My top 3:
1. Elite dungeons / Hard mode – Challenging content is really missing from this game. Had such good stuff in gw1 its a shame you havent used more ideas from that. I dont want to see more puzzles though, just give us well designed bosses like lupicus and the openworld melandru and dwayna bosses (they are really fun and challenging in 1-5 man groups). Id love to see instanced maps for 5 man groups with hard mode quests and bosses where you choose what order and what you want to clear (Underworld/FoW clone).
2. New weapons /skills – Hopefully will help pve balance and give certain classes something unique and useful in all skill levels of pve.
3. Mini pet slots and other improvements to inventory/character panel (Not really sure what category this comes under)
Use chill. No need for axe in anything pve.
Its still a boring weapon. Theres no other weapon in the game which has 4 slightly different versions of the same skill and a crap auto attack. Really amazing and engaging design!
Ele would be more welcomed in pugs and its pretty fun. Also dagger focus build is really good for fractals.
What deSade is trying to say is we would be happy to invite you along for some fun. Weve done the same for a few people already and we could always do with more friends.
Probably best off contacting him though because im useless and never online until late.
ranger, engi and mesmer in real play are the only classes with worse dps than warrior afaik.
Thief has smoke screen (projectile block), stealth, blinds and very high single target damage. Its in a much better place than necro.

Wish I could sticky this…
Why are you defending bad advice? There is no justification for that. Players will always look towards more experienced players for advice. Im a very critical player so i never followed anyone when creating a necro build but for guardian i followed the strife AH craze because I didnt know any better and I thought it was effective. I was less experienced and deluded by what everyone else was saying around me.
This is the same issue. Its bad advice and some people will follow it blindly. Its not their fault they are not critical enough (not everyone is like that or is confident enough in their own understanding). The best way to help the community as a whole is to try and filter guides based on whether they are actually good or not. You cant blame inexperienced players for following a bad guide which seems good because of all the other poor deluded souls that support it.
pretty sure it stays as a different ring with an offensive slot. So yeah you should get 2 offensive slots. I believe Obal has done this, atleast I think it was him. I saw someone had it and the red ring of death in a video somewhere.
I use to be in a 100% rep casual guild. I had been repping rT for about a month before they actually kicked me. And that was only because I told them to. Most guilds that say rep 100% dont enforce that rule very strictly. But yeah I would find a guild which suits your interests. Fun can be had in those other guilds but being in a guild with like minded individuals is soooo much more rewarding and fun.
I love it when gabe makes an angry helpful post.
Actually probably the best ranger advice ive ever seen posted and if i ever bother with a ranger I already knew I would be asking him about it if i needed to.
Raden you must understand that blindly following someones build advice because he is a popular member of the necro community is wrong. Work things out for yourself. Nemesis does have some good knowledge of necro but when it comes to serious dungeon running you should be a little more careful with his suggestions. He openly states that he thinks stacking is broken and needs fixing. He is also more of a casual player who enjoys a variety of gametypes. I would say hes good for general advice about necro and fun open world builds but not an expert in any individual gametype.
The majority of posters on this forum will tell you to go zerk because its been proven to be most efficient. If you asked them ingame they would probably be a little more polite about it and maybe offer compromises if you arent completely comfortable with full zerk. But when the same stuff gets asked over and over and people are so stubborn and ignore the advice. You can sort of see why sometimes it gets a bit hostile on the forums.

Check out my signature for the meta build in dungeons. Works fine in open world aswell. Only thing you might want to do for open world is use spectral walk and locust signet for better mobility.
Axe offhand or torch offhand work nicely aswell. I know desade always carries his rodgort with him for a nice fire field.
another update:
Hello,Thanks for providing that information.

Support team fail. Trust me.
Whoever replied obviously misunderstood you and thought you were asking about selling dungeons for real money.
You could compare what your doing to defending drug dealers. And its up to other people to know better. The drug dealer is not in the wrong to sell such things.
Wouldnt make a difference because condi damage is sub par. Its only useful for gimmicky things like condi bombing in fractals where direct damage would kill you (frac 43 & 44). It did have a decent use for frac 70+ dredge. But thats gone now.
atse is a known troll in these parts. I wouldnt take anything he says too seriously.
I tested chill uptime with 20/25 because it has the option to trait dark path, spectrals, chilling darkness, focus and chill of death. It lacks 10% condi duration but 24sec grasp cd compared to 30 secs is better for chill than 10% condi duration. I consider both builds to be meta as they are both very similar in damage output.
30/25 is still slightly better for dps but there are a lot of good reasons to go 20/25 now.
You can get perma chill with dark path, traited focus 5, traited spectral grasp and chillblains. Without chillblains its almost perma, for short fights its permanent. With longer fights you might have a few seconds downtime until the target hits below 50% hp.
You can get more chills with chilling darkness. But its not really needed and i think using the staff is kind of wasted aswell. Even with untraited spectral grasp the chill uptime is good.
So i would say with the meta build the unique ability necro provides is perma to near perma chill uptime on a single target.
(edited by spoj.9672)
I believe you can perma chill but you may sacrifice a fair amount of damage to do it. Ill have a look at how easy it is to perma chill with my build.
Well ive been without power over xmas so ive come into this thread late. But guang you really need to recheck your numbers for necro. It should beat warrior without minions. Minions are a situational slight dps boost.
I assume you ignore certain things which result in a dps increase such as weakening shroud, reapers touch, traited locust swarm, well of suffering and tainted shackles.
Doesnt change that necros are a pretty poor choice in pve. But they do have their uses. They are a bit more useful in fractals and they are a good casual class (they provide a bit of vuln, blind, condi control, cc and good damage). They are just not a speedrun class.
(edited by spoj.9672)
Said it countless times but greatsword or sword would make me so very happy. Aslong as they dont ruin the cleave dps.
Any build is viable for pve to be honest.
Same could be said about wvw and pvp. Whether they are good builds is another story.
Would recommend.
