Meh, I’m okay with people givin me free stomps. I can’t at all ever remember a match where the number of roamers that would alt-F4 would make the difference.
I’m saying as you beat GoM 6 weeks ago and assuming neither NSP nor GoM’s numbers haven’t fluctuated since then, you should be above us or win against us, as we are only catching up to them now.
I really don’t understand why you’d be using GoM as the yardstick to compare our servers… we both outrank them by a lot and we both trounced them thoroughly the last time either of us fought them.
lol you’re right. i am getting hod and gom mixed up
We are a lot better looking than Henge of Denravi.
I’ve had similar offers in seedy bars all over the world. Only accepted one – the first time.
@Nik
Why should I transfer from the server I’ve helped become one of the top EU WvW servers? I like it here.
Hey, you asked for a solution to queues. That is the solution. Bein a top server apparently means queues. Probably givin yourself big queues was part of makin yourself a top server. It’s all very silly.
You can pay me and I’ll make it so you can WvW without having to queue.
Well , a few people have been asking for it. So i guess i had to put something together. I normally post a “song of the day” , a few times during the match up. So here goes a few fails from yesterday morning.
I love the popping commander tag as a call for help. I guess it happens often. but this might be the first time i noticed it as i was fighting.
Im not going to lie , I have about 5 ele mist spikes in wvw total. Not one of them happened as i was recording.
Well i give you todays
I hate. fighting. you. If you see a solo [SoCo] Necro or War (in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month!) running for his life, it’s probably me, and I’m probably shaking and crying.
Thank you. I think… Apparently you aren’t alone. This morning on my solo stroll I’ve had everyone I come across run from me (Maybe they know the frapz is rolling?) Na… Aside from a few nice people that I had some duels with.
XOXO meanness is catchin up to you!
I’m against isolating tier 1. It’ll just justify the stupid stacking arms race and perpetuate it. Like, I think it’s better for servers to see other servers. Not just the same ones over again.
But t1 servers constantly fighting t1 servers is exactly what will be the cause of the inevitble destacking, eventually people from t1 will get bored and will see much more fun in the silver league where the matchups are dynamic and hopefully spread out between all the gold league servers, creating a super tier of kitten,t3 where all servers are competitive.
More likely they’ll just quit and the server will buy new guilds.

I am tired of hearing how we’re all bad down here ‘cause we didn’t transfer to tier 1. You wanna know the truth of it? The only guilds I know that transferred to tier 1 are the ones who, instead of getting good, went to get carried.
I know you all feel boss up there but let’s be honest it’s easy to feel pro in a place where your singular failings have next to no impact.
You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about this. You do not come to tier 1 to get carried, you will get smashed. You can’t take your guild on the field and expect to play against guilds the caliber of NS or TW and just get carried by your server. You cannot just make a huge group without a talented commander and good players and avoid getting brutally wiped. The only way to get carried in tier 1 is to not play in WvW.
If you do not want to come to tier 1, that is your choice and there are plenty of good reasons to make that choice. If you want a challenge, though, there is no better place to find it. You can log in at any time of day and play with like-minded people in huge fights against good players.
Why would I compare myself against guilds that are trying to do different things other than joinin in strawman arguments? The point is I could just join up any of those guilds (probably not after this rant, hahaha) and quite frankly I’m sure they have awful people that just get carried when you run with 20+ groups. My point was I could transfer up there and join any of ’em or even run as a PUG with those good commanders and feel like a pro.
My chip has to do with being talked down to and about challenges. It’s obviously harder down here. Why do you think people leave? Do you really think people go to tier 1 because it’s hard and difficult? Tryin to build up a guild with lil’ or commandin with less is hard. Goin some place where it’s not gonna notice whether you showed up or not is much easier. Is any 60 man zerg gonna care if it’s 61? Nope but man oh man is the 61th person gonna feel like a boss and come home with lotsa loot.
Like, I don’t blame anyone for takin the easy way. That’s everyone’s choice to make.
I am glad you posted this. Having played in tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3, I can say the biggest difference is definitely our commanders. Our commanders are the best of the best. I have seen people in LA mistakenly assume it is just stacking, calling for might, and charging in. It is just sad how wrong they are, as they are missing out on the strategy and counter-strategy that really makes wvw enjoyable. I have gotten to follow a number of absolutely excellent commanders, and they are very impressive. They manage the map, control where their enemies go, beat larger groups consistently and evolve the strategy of the game with their different ideas. The current strategy relies on a heavy warrior presence, we will see where it goes from here.
The lower tiers like to claim they have better roamers, but I have played against them and they are simply incorrect. In the lower tiers being a “skilled roamer” counts as being a person in a 1v1 build trying to hunt down someone in a team build en route to their group. In T1 we have roamers that can smash entire small groups by themselves, and survive encounters with the mega blobs we have here. When I played on JQ there was a thief who would flip all the camps on the map right before the tick… I don’t recall anybody ever stopping him. I ran into him a few times when groups of players were trying to chase him down, but he either won the fight or chased them off every time. There used to be a few groups completely dedicated to fighting drastically larger numbers, and they were successful – not because the larger number groups were playing very poorly, but rather because the small groups played very well.
You were also dead on about the lag. An FA player expressed it well in a reply, you can literally feel the lag as a zerg is coming. JQ and BG run in full map zergs drastically less often then SoR NA, but all three servers do it. When we are running our nightly raid, our commander will frequently call out “lag… sor zerg is here.” He is correct 100% of the time. I have been in a few SM fights where all 3 servers brought the majority of the players on the map to battle it out in the center… it is awful. Some abilities stop working completely, getting proper fields and blasts is incredibly difficult, and players teleport all over. I feel like the lag has improved a lot lately, but it still has all these problems, just less often and to a lesser extent.
Edit: This isn’t to say that while on lower servers I didn’t meet excellent players. I met a lot of great players. Almost all of them ended up transferring to tier 1 for more good fights, though. It also is not accurate that all tier 1 players are better. I do think that there are more skilled players in tier 1, but there are also more players in tier 1 in general.

Sorry to hear about Zero AR enjoyed fighting them at night.
Agreed.
More transfers from tier 8 to 1? Oof. Get your kitten together ArenaNet.
Do not listen to anyone telling you to join this server, or that server. Any difference in server mentality pales in comparison to the mentality of different guilds.
I suggest you look for a guild that fits you style and go to whatever server that guild happens to play on.
I very much agree with this.
Lots of ways to play WvW and you want a guild that will fit in with that. There’s no one way or best or whatever to play. If you wanna do dungeons, fractals, then log into WvW casually when the mood strikes, I’d look more for a PvX guild. If you wanna do pro 5 man groups, there’s guilds for that. If you wanna be in 20 man zerg bustin squads, there’s guilds for that too. All of this is in all tiers.
This is secretly a tier 1 recruit thread, isn’tn it?
“Our skill lag is only pretty bad, guys, come on, what you waitin for?”
Bandwagon to whichever T1 server that makes you feel better. I mean, why stay at a mid or lower server when you can be on one of the best zerg servers.
/sarcasm
Enjoy the queue times and lag!
:D
Basically.
Isle of Janthir has a very healthy population to engage with. When the 3 tier 1 servers aren’t matched up together they have the worst and most boring match ups of everyone. At best, their match up isn’t as close as Isle of Janthir’s right now anyway.
How the pros use flame rams :P
Ha! I missed seeing that, haha
I’m pretty sure mine does about 300+/tic running healway.
Generally I feel like regen is more powerful on guardian because of the generous access to protection.
Personally, one of my favourite things to do is run with heal signet warriors and give them battle presence and the protection + regeneration boons.
It probably takes a lot of healing power to get that much per tick. With that large of a sacrifice you don’t do much damage.
The interesting thing about healing signet is it requires no investment in healing power to obtain 400hp per sec. So warrior can go full offensive.
Exactly, we have to constantly sacrifice to reach the same levels of regen that a warrior gets seemingly for free.
We get the regen for free. Warrior has to slot a skill.
What is wrong here?
The perception that transferring is a bad thing.
Why is this wrong?
Because any player, who bought this game with his own money, can do with it as he will.
That’s so generic a reason that you might as well say there is no right or wrong and nothing has meaning and nothing should ever be discussed.
14 months of growing population inequality between last place and first place is wrong and it’s wrong it should continue. You think it’s right that the population difference between tier 1 and TC is so huge? That the difference between TC and ranks 5 and 6 is so huge? Do you think it is not wrong that the situation only gets worse every month?
There’s different directions for the game, trends, and some things can be right and wrong or well, kinda meh, heh, but being “people bought the game so they can do whatever” is just careless. The game has systems and incentives in it and we can judge and debate those systems based on the pros and cons. I mean, what else are these forums for? And what else are hobbies for?
1. I am entitled to my thoughts and opinion kitten are you. So, I shared it here in the forums. Whether you agree with it or not is up to you.
2. I think it bad game design. But those questions are not related to my reply to you but something you concluded on your own.
3. But that’s the truth, people can do as they wish. Play the game by the rules or quit or change. It is a choice. And as for things, you simply add meaning to it based on your own perception of things. A rock can be worth 100m to someone and trash to another.
4. Sticking to the topic, based on our current game system, simply make a home for your community and they will stay. Or you might go with them. As such are hobbies, you mustn’t treat it as work.
5. We use these forums so the devs will learn how to make a good game. But in the process there will be opinions like yours and mine which will not agree on things. Got to learn to accept that.
I accept that, of course. I just wanted to give a counter opinion on whether transfers a problem. I think they might be the biggest one WvW has.

I was using your server as an example because it was axe posting, it wasn’t to suggest it happens.
I know, I didn’t take offence or anything. I just want kittens.
GoM is getting their kitten handed to them
Gate of Madness welcomes all kittens and encourages everyone to hand all the kittens to us. Handing us videos of kittens is sub optimal but will not be discouraged.
Problems:
Warriors can deal Heavy damage while maintaining good survivability due to their high HP pools, passive regen and all around Logan butt thuckery.
Guardians can deal Heavy damage while our survivability falls dramatically the more we focus on dealing damage.
Warriors will always deal great damage and I go no problems with them having some sustain but being able to sustain better than the Guardian which is supposed to really be the ‘sustain king’ is questionable.
Guardians are well balanced and the main problem is that we don’t really have a ‘Meta’ unless you want to go on about the Healaway guard which couldn’t kill a disabled fly.
Healway can kill more builds than builds that can kill healway.
Guardian helps sustain others better than warrior does, gives group stability, and has wards.
staff is pretty amazing for WvW zergs. there are some guards out there that use them in small scale fights or even 1v1+’s, which i find pretty crazy. but apparently, it works for some. traited / geared right (ha), staff can hit pretty hard. even staff #2, given you can shoot it where you want it to go. and in PvP it’s pretty amazing too. for PvE? the only times i would use it would be for specific situations, map crossing, and tagging for big events (temple events?)
if you don’t use it all that much, i wouldn’t spend that much time on a legendary (plus, i’m personally not a big fan of the legend staff skin :PP lol. i think there are a lot better looking ones out there. of course, my opinion : )))
I wouldn’t use it in 1v1 but for above that it’s good for adding sustain to your group (2 heals), AoE’ing with the symbol (if you’re #1’ing someone that’s in the symbol you’re doin alright), the #2 damage isn’t bad, the #1 is fine against things that are kiting you (unlike other weapons you’re not missing much, if any attacks so it’s a constant pressure) or if someone popped stealth you can guarantee at least some hits on them, and the #5 has a million and one uses. Everyone also likes might stacks.
I’m pretty sure mine does about 300+/tic running healway.

You can co another daily achievement. OR buy ranks with laurels & badges
I have the feeling this daily is designed for people who exclusively WvW and they gain 2-4 ranks per night.
Buy ranks with laurels so you can do dailies to get laurels.
The difference between a regular Arrow Cart (1 silver) vs Superior Arrow Cart (15s) is 15x the price, so why only somewhat better?
So nonsensical.
With the exception of the top 3 servers and the free transfers there to make ‘WvW-teh-awesome!!’… I don’t see any reason to believe that population doesn’t generally correspond to WvW participation on a server.
Have any evidence?
Just take a look at the server list at the log in screen and match it up with rankings.
In North America, probably among the more extreme examples is Ehmry Bay is one of the smaller servers while Gate of Madness is one of the larger ones but we’re 10+ ranks below Ehmry Bay.
If I had to start offer a theory as to how that can be because I don’t wanna get back to work, I’d say that it has to do with that the PvE population is most of the server population. When many WvW players leave, the ranking suffers but the server population doesn’t.
Assuming each server has the same % of players who WvW made sense when the game came out. Since then the WvW players haven’t moved around randomly, they instead have moved around as a result of incentives that give rewards for playing in higher tiers. PvE players don’t move.
The thing about Engineer’s use of the Perplexity Runes is that the main tools/kits/weapons that we use to proc Interrupt or add Confusion do very little damage in and of themselves. Static Shot, Magnet, Prybar, Shield, #3 Bomb – none of these are very powerful.
what does it matter when the person sits there with 25 confusion stacks and can’t attack back…
look at fireworks thief, he didn’t even use any weapon dmg and thieves can’t even get such high stacks like engi
That thief video proves a point how OP thieves are….just say’n.
He’s fighting thieves (ones that use daggers and stealth!). He’s fighting 2v1 against thief and warrior (two of the best roaming classes).
Again
-only perplexity runes
-2v1
-against 2 best roaming classes
-against fully geared 80s
-his armour set is greens
-with no weapons or the stats that those weapons give
-while they have a zerg nearby to retreat to and he has nowhere to run
-he’s a stealthless thief so he really can’t just hide and run away
I have no idea why there’s so many people on each of these servers fightin all the time!
I’m not sure if people are just lazy or don’t understand that in order to keep a match close they need to attack whoever is in the lead. I have watched the point gap spread from 3k to 6k and now 9k between first and second, while 2nd and 3rd remain close in points.
It varies from commander to commander. Some people like to hit the winning team, some people like to hit the guy that’s easier to knock down.
Also, it was fun fighting ET at North camp in AR BL this afternoon! It really took some doing to knock you lads out of there.
I mean merely from a “want to win” or at least keep the match close perspective. It doesn’t make sense if a team is in 2nd and has the manpower to not hit the team in first to try and cut a point deficit. Instead we see it happen mostly that any team in second hits the team in third, and widens the point gap between all three teams, and allows the team in first to actually increase the point gap, which is exactly what we see in every match up.
There’s different views on this. I mean, as the situation changes sometimes it’s a time to pull back and not hit anyone even. In general I always want to hit 1st place and hitting anyone but that doesn’t make super sense to me. I mean, I always wanna play like I’m gonna win 1st place.
Other people I’ve talked to have different philosophies, even with my guild. At the end of the day it’s up to the person in charge at the time and they give the call and we do what that person says.
back on track.
NSP is not facing people lower in ranking then they did last week.. and NSP is doing nothing in points.
Either a bunch jumped ship like what happened with kaineng… or they are tanking to stay out of the silver league now.
I don’t think Northern Shiverpeaks is tanking on purpose and I am not aware of any changes in their population. Their population was just never in the ranks of Yak’s Bend (which Gate of Madness lost to back when Gate of Madness had a fair bit more than Shiverpeaks) and Ehmry Bay.
They’ve got a dedicated and good crew but it’s been the same crew for a while. I think Northern Shiverpeaks’ rating is pretty accurate and mostly it’s servers around it having population swings.
Great match up so far! Pretty even fights in the borderlands! =)
Gate of Madness got a new site (somethin a lil’ more than a forum!)
The new address is: http://thegateofmadness.com/
Can you please update it, Szarazar?
Well considering BG got the Tequatl world first, I think we can safely lay that worry about PVE on BG to one side. Dunno where all that rubbish about T1’s not being good at PVE comes from either, just propaganda I guess from dead servers looking to fool others to join them maybe.
Didn’t realize things were goin so badly in tier 1 that you gotta be so insecure.
We’ll stop with the mean words. Maybe we’ll even act dead for you!
The rankings are basically a ranking of coverage/WvW population. There’s only a handful servers not ranked right (maybe Stormbluff Isle, Dragonbrand if I had to guess).
For total server population you can get an idea by lookin in the server window at character selection.
Gate of Madness has a very large PvE community with big and active guilds and a small spunky WvW community with a lot of heart (with no queues).
Lower tier servers have more balanced match ups. Tier 1 servers have very boring blow out matches (see Jade Quarry this week) a lot of the time (which is gonna be a bigger deal since in the new leagues they are guaranteed to have those match ups).
Free transfers to lower pop servers coupled with an public announcement that Anet intends to reduce map population to ‘x’
causing tier 1 , tier 2 ‘WvW’ players/guilds to move… might
Rather than forcing then, they should find incentives for people to move. Right now all the incentives are to move up tiers (more gold, WvW ranks, achievements, etc.).
ArenaNet is literally paying people gold to transfer to higher tier servers.
5:45: Whoah, SPCA is so hardcore. I wouldn’t dare to fight that fight. I totally need to see how they’re gonna win and learn somethin!
Joe: “cu sars lol”
Great video, haha. Though SPCA and tM have mesmers but no XOXO mesmers? It’s like I don’t even know you anymore, Northern Shiverpeaks.
Purimm and I came from Ultima Online, where if you die your corpse is fully lootable, as in armor/weps/consumables. In games like these where death has no penalty and I see groups that size balling up and building siege to take a tower no one is defending my eyes blur and I go auto-run.
We were only on EB to find something to fight, and when we find a group that doubles our numbers (the fight below Mendon) half of them take off leaving their buddies to die. This game breeds people who eschew pvp.
We’ve been goin to Eternal Battleground for that reason too this week (are the borderlands dryin up of players?).
I don’t get that “there’s no equip loss” or whatever. I mean, I’m not afraid to die but I don’t like just throwin myself and my guys away like that. If I’m gonna make a stand I’d like it to do somethin other than waste my time and feed badges. I’ve had guildies do stuff like “we’re outmanned, no repair costs! leaves the group and runs in and dies” and I’m just like what was the point of that? haha
I kinda prefer to take as much as possible and give as lil’ as possible to the bad guys! It’s like sports. Missin the hoop with the basketball is still failure without havin to have someone come and punch you to drive the point home! I feel like weirdly punishing MMOs have given people Stockholme syndrome!
Edit: Had my mesmer for 14 months and could never find colours/looks I liked but for some reason the first look I had for my guardian like 10 months ago I’m still very happy.
Spreading the word is tough work, thanks for all the effort, both in game and out people have provided!
Will it fail as hard as the “Northern Shiverpeaks Avalanche?”
Yush.
Be more supportive Rob! Is this what Os does when people on the server wanna connect with each other? =(
It’s very meh. Last time they did it, people still only moved up tiers (that’s what the game gives you the incentives to do) because it’s not uncommon for smaller servers to have higher populations (though we don’t have somethin as extreme as Piken Square but my server has a rather high population given it’s one of the smallest WvW population).
I guess I appreciate the thought but they’re goin to have to do better than this.
This match up is boring as hell
Agreed.
Pfft, haven’t even seen you in it Taquito. You’ve missed our good fights =(
5:45: Whoah, SPCA is so hardcore.
Not bad match up, I’d say. I’ve had a lotta great fights =)
We never get many transfers and people transfer off and fizzle out or pve and whatnot. Has nothing to do with not wanting to be in silver league. We will be happy anywhere there are fights, win or lose pointwise.
I expect you will become the new bandwagon server for bronze league. If I were a bandwagoner I’d be looking at NSP, HoD, SF…possibly DH (DH is doing very poorly this week so that would strike it off my list). To be honest I like NSP the most out of all of these servers since I like the roaming groups on your server.
Yeah its been confirmed, NSP is the new bandwagon server, it doesn’t take logic, based on their placement and standings, only way they would lose is if, somehow a silver leagues server lost rating fell and NSP took their spot, then NSP would be last place in silver league, in which case which ever server from silver league fell, would still probably have a field trip on us, unless of course it turned out to be another fallen GoM or DR or DH, then in which case, I think SF and HoD would duke it out for the bronze league. crosses fingers
NSP might be the new bandwagon server, but they’ll have WvW superstar recruit Devon Carver himself around to balance things out. The points other teams get for spiking him alone might send NSP down to T8.
Devon’s probably been on NSP the whole the time. It’s not like he’s going to be running around on a character named Devon Carver repping ANET.
Checkin past history, looks like he was on Aurora Glade 3 months ago.
Probably workin on gettin the leagues to work right. Imagine how bad that could crash if last patch took down WvW for like half a day, hahaha.
This thread makes it seem like people play for PPT lol.
JQ has the most T1 wins in the games history even though it’s a PvE server.
You don’t know what a PvE server is.
Anet dropped the ball on WvW population imbalances when they decided to keep free transfers open for 5 months longer than they promised when the game came out. It’s pretty clear a large overhaul is required to fix it, that anet doesn’t have the inkling of ever doing so, and this problem will go with this game to its grave.
My hope is if we ring the bell enough, they’ll pay attention and finally get on it.
Probably one of the best ideas since launch they had in WvW, I think.
It’s absolutely bizarre how after 14 months this issue only gets worse. Top servers get bigger and the bottom servers get smaller. It’s honestly the way the game is designed. All the incentives (transfer costs, balanced match ups, coverage, gold, WvW ranks, and apparently now leagues too) point to “go to T1”.
ArenaNet needs to be sittin down and thinking hard find ways to get people to move down tiers and fast instead of doing the opposite (ranks and leagues have only made the issue worse!).
I think somethin interestin to consider would be the buff gives stats as it does now to 3rd place, half as much to 2nd place and nothing to 1st.
1st still can take it to deny the other guys without making things unbalanced (so it’s in their interest without making things unbalanced). 2nd and 3rd can use it to give themselves the edge they might need.
Bronze league is the most balanced of all leagues by far.
two weeks ago we faced the bottom 2 servers in the league with this score
237 098
221 261
183 993this week we are facing the top 2 servers in the league with this score
127 052
154 705
129 104Unless a large group of players stack a bronze server there will be no major blowouts. That doesn’t mean we won’t know who’s going to win most matches within the first 24 hours.
Sure, though GoM vs. NSP was 150k vs. 270k it still isn’t as bad as what they have in the higher tiers but matches down here are getting really weird though. Even durin prime time, outside of EB it’s more like a ghost town.
Our borderland is 100% paper 100% of the time. Only reason Sorrow’s Furnace isn’t gettin more points is ‘cause after they flip it they don’t stay and guard it so we still end up holding it most of the time. GoM borderland is just PvD even during GoM prime time.
