PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.
and then 1 month later China realize there is no end game in gw2…
PvE is never the “end game” in any MMO.
PvE cannot retain players for 10 years. It is stagnant and has a very low skill ceiling (low self improvement). GW2 PvE skill ceiling: Stack in corner, stack might, zerk/FGS it to death. There is nothing more to learn for PvE past this.
PvP in every MMO has always been the “end game”.
PvP has the potential to retain players for 10 years as long as the company looks after it. PvP is different every time you log in, you always face something new, it is always unpredictable. PvP also has an unlimited skill ceiling (unlimited self improvement).
I’ll say it again, PvP is the end game in MMO’s, not PvE.
What? I was in a top raiding guild when I played WoW and PVE WAS the main goal. In fact most things were based on pve raids.
Aside from difficulty, raiding is no different to any other PvE content.
- Find optimal set ups, then;
- “Run this build, use this group composition”
- Repeat monotony
It’s the same for GW2 dungeons, same for GW1 DOA/UW/FoW/Urgoz/Deep.
PvE is low skill cap, and relatively stagnant once solved.
Without PvP, MMO’s don’t last long. Imagine WoW without PvP, and only having PvE…. yeah, dead.
Or you could fire an AC 3 times and they’d all be dead.
Don’t nerf what ain’t broken.
I’ve only seen a big group of MM’s once, in a joke video.
You will never see it become a regular thing, because its useless vs any kind of defence.
You don’t seem to understand that WvW is won by population and coverage. Not skill and effort.
WvW is a competition. Competitions have winners which also means there are losers. Regardless of the skill required. Some servers lost which means less reward. Life is rough, get a helmet.
Stop crying, it is unbecoming. If you want a better reward, aka win, get more bodies or simply transfer. You have the options.
Facepalm.
Headdesk.
Hammerfingers.
How do you even…….
I’ll never understand.
Have fun.
In short: GW2 is wasting its potential.
@Indigo
WvW:
1 big update (PvE map that hurts WvW) and 3 small updates, and a few tooltip updates. In 2 years. That’s all.
SPvP:
6 months per balance patch, and even then it is minimal changes. Minimal changes should be every 2-4 weeks.
Rush to cater to my desires? Puh-lease. How I personally see it, the development team has all the time in the world for just about ANY project, because as a player who gets zero information and interaction from them, they appear to be doing nothing at all, literally nothing. The frustrating part is that there isn’t even a developer let alone a team, for WvW and SPvP.
I could handle the complete silence from them, if they actually had something to show for it. That they actually work on things.
Then of course there’s:
Skyhammer in SoloQ.
Asura racial advantage in SPvP.
1 game mode in SPvP, and it promotes the most boring game play imaginable, bunkering.
Bad Guild functionality. Ignored all suggestions by players.
Bad Commander functionality. Ignored all suggestions by players.
Promote server stacking in WvW, simply for gem revenue.
Lets not forget my favourite:
Living Story bugs are fixed in under 4 hours.
WvW/SPvP/combat bugs are fixed in 6 to 24 months. Or longer.
I’ll stop that list here since it could go on forever.
After 2 years of utter neglect to the two “end game” game modes, I think I’ve been rather patient with them. Don’t you?
(edited by thaooo.5320)
It’s a 2 year old bug.
At this point I think most people have just accepted its existence as another RNG mechanic like the mystic forge or precursors.
But if it was a bug affecting the Living Story.. it would be fixed in under 4 hours.
The tournament is still going, technically, since it is still possible to do the achievements. You’ll have to wait for the next update where it should be fixed.
But why should you spend your free time a game that sucks the same way?
To each his own. If you want to play, then play. Just don’t expect to be rewarded for logging in.
I understand that the American school systems have been teaching, “You deserve everything in the world for just being born!” but sadly that is simply not true. You don’t deserve everything. You deserve the chance at everything, not for it to just be handed to you for nothing.
You don’t seem to understand that WvW is won by population and coverage. Not skill and effort.
The #1 ranking server (aside from NA gold) did not do anything to deserve better rewards. They just outmanned the opposition.
Providing better “rewards” to the most heavily populated server makes the problem even worse.
The lower servers don’t even get a reward, it is a huge slap in the face considering how much the population and coverage issue has been brought up. How long do you think they’ll stay on their server before they transfer to the top 3?
Stack stack stack stack and stack to win.
If every server had the roughly the same amount of players at any given time, then your childish insult would apply.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
Hire a dev team for WvW.
BG: 24/7 4 queues all time zones.
We can’t spare players.
Its Sunday and it would be nice if we got an update on this situation. Even if its just “we are still working on it.” Something to let us know that we are not forgotten.
But they ALL need the weekend to relax, because they put SO MUCH EFFORT into WvW and SPvP every day of every week of every month of every year.
Don’t worry guys, Camelot Unchained is coming, so you’ll see a bunch of update like they did for ESO
Anyway, I’m waiting for that game WITHOUT PVE !
It’s still a while away.
If ANet doesn’t commit to WvW and the community in a big way, CU is going to decimate the core WvW population… to zero. Frankly my mind is already made up.
WvW will then be attended by PvE heroes, running “their build”, it will be a fantastic sight of bearbow rangers and other random useless builds with zero synergy or practicality. And people who don’t know how to dodge, and use the turn keys. I might stick around a few weeks to see this hilarious transformation.
All GW2 needs is Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.
As soon as you create “capture points” in a MMO, you end up with bunker meta. Reeeeaaalllll exhilarating.
What’s the rush guys? You can’t spend the tickets until the 3rd anyway.
What tickets?
It’s just the usual fanboyism. It’s not “their game”, so it’ “competition”, “the enemy”.
But when they try GW, and then go back to their game, they see all those annoying things we see that we don’t have in GW, and they can’t ever enjoy that other game the same as before.
GW2 has many annoying things, but they got rid of many of the most annoying.
Those who leave GW will eventually come back when they see all the other crap around.
They always come back.
Or you could acknowledge the actual problems with the game (lack of direction, zero PvP development, no community interaction, no bug fixes for any of the core elements like combat) instead of blindly assuming everything is fine and it must be “WoW/GW1 fanboizzz”.
People complain because they care. Sadly ANet doesn’t care.
If you get bored with the PvE monotony, I suggest giving WvW a proper try. Join a WvW guild, use the server voice communications sometimes (don’t need to speak, being there to listen makes the game mode 100x more fun).
Experiment with different builds. Find what play style you prefer more (zerging, solo roaming, guild raid, 5 man, havoc, small ops, scouting/defending).
You might find that you actually enjoy it. I know I did. In the first few months of GW2 I despised it, and came to love it when I jumped in head first.
The best part is: PvP will always be different every time you play. And there is no limit on personal skill level.

Facepalm @ OP.
Lots of people flock to new games to try it out, and leave after a month or less if they don’t really enjoy it (I have 8 friends who did this, they didn’t even play GW1, yet preordered GW2).
When GW2 released in August 2012 in the rest of the world, the same thing happened.
It happens with all overhyped games.
It is not a strong indication of anything.
Another reason people temporarily try new games, is to take a break from their old favourite for a little while.
What the stats say in 4-6 months is a much better indication.
Getting the shield or longbow (if/when we get tickets), even though I rarely use shields.
The solution seems easy enough. Just give a chest to everyone that completed the meta the first week. Make it a first place chest for the inconvenience.
The solution is to fix the problem… so it doesn’t happen a second time.
Oh right, this IS the second time.
But it’s WvW, nothing gets fixed.
The bug with season 1 rewards hasn’t been fixed.
We aren’t getting season 2 rewards EVER.
Its hilarious how bugs associated with the Living Story are fixed within hours, and WvW bugs and combat specific bugs never get fixed at all.
They have the potential to fix the WvW bugs, they’ve proven it by how timely they fix Living Story bugs, they just don’t give a skritt about WvW.
Fantastic company.
Where’s my hammer and nails…?
ANet has become famous for failing miserably at the simplest things. Even with 9 weeks preparation.
Here’s hoping we get our chests, and that people from season 1 who didn’t get anything, get theirs.
I know it’s 9 weeks for 2-4 blues/greens but they could at least get it right.
So much facepalm. So much headdesk. So much fistmonitor.
How do you repeatedly make the same mistakes?
Run away, or use shield block followed by endure pain.
Or use boon strip sigil then CC him to death.
Or constantly walk behind/through him.
How many more thousands of feedback do we need to give ANet?
Has ANet seriously not taken on board ANYTHING?
In 2 years there has been 3 small changes and 1 big change which was EOTM which didn’t even add anything to WvW, it added to PvE.
Nobody asked for orbs to return, it gives more power to the stacked servers. ANet brought those back despite community outcry.
Nobody asked for an insignificant PvE karma train map. ANet made this on its own.
When will the players matter to ANet?
How many more years will it take for ANet to provide WvW with a dedicated and passionate dev team?
We can only give you suggestions so many times before we simply stop caring like ANet stopped caring about WvW 2 years ago.
The game and how it launched in august 2012, was fantastic, yes.
What happened in the 2 year since then (aka nothing) is deplorable.
Why do I complain, why do others complain?
Because WvW and SPvP get zero dev attention.
WvW and SPvP don’t even have development teams assigned to them, literally zero people working on them. Occasionally some clueless PvE Devs will come along and make some minor useless changes.
The company does not listen to the players. The forums are filled with thousands of brilliant ideas to improve the game, which are approved by a huge majority, and the company ignores them.
For a long time even PvE lacked direction, then they randomly create Scarlet out of no where, and make a terrible story to cover up their poor LS releases. At least now they seem to be running along with something, so they finally found some direction for PvE.
Too much open world zerging, not enough party instances. Zerging = remove any form of player skill from the game.
It takes 6-8 months per balance patch. This is unacceptable. Every 2-4 weeks they should be making tweaks and changes to keep the game from stagnating, and to encourage player creativity.
Asura is allowed in SPvP, despite its massive cheat advantage.
Skyhammer, a gimmick Soul Calibur style map, is still in SoloQ, despite the majority of hard core pvpers wanting it gone from SoloQ.
And the last one I can be bothered typing, because this is getting long (as usual), they focus on the gem store WAY too much. Every new skin is tied behind using a credit card, or giving up your entire gold supply which takes a more than a week to get back.
^^This is why I and others complain. Because since release, the company simply stopped giving a crap about the players, and about the 2 PvP modes. ^^
Stop fooling yourselves saying “everyone who complains wants GW2 to be GW1”, or, "They want to promote “XYZ” game." Start understanding what the actual problems are.
PvP modes are endgame, because they are constantly changing, and every time you enter it will be different to last time. PvP modes always allow for the player to improve, PvE never does, PvE is ALWAYS about running the same builds/strategy, it is stagnation at its best. PvP is why MMO’s can live for 10 years, because it can retain players, NOT PVE, PvE will NEVER be endgame, EVER.
And yet the company ignores PvP modes, and fails at PvE. The company has no direction besides gem store peddling.
The game has so much potential, but ANet don’t give a skritt.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
If you deleted the guild nothing will be done.
Why didn’t you keep the guild as one of your 5?
I like how you deliberately stayed away from the “earn it through in game feats” part.
Try again, discuss that, and I’ll take you seriously.
All coin is earned through in game feats. Coin can be used to buy ANY gem shop items.
Ergo, all gem shop items can be earned through in game feats.I’ll respond to your own personal statement that had nothing to do with my comment though:
You may enjoy grinding the same old parts of the game that existed since release, to grind up 60g+ gold each week, then visiting the Gem Store, then rinse and repeat for months and months on end. But you’re not everyone.
Not everyone wants to play a game to do daily chores for pocket money, then visit the shops.
Repeat: This is a game. Not work/a job.
Game content pays coins. If you find activity A to be a chore, do activity B.
Again, you may enjoy going through your list of daily chores:
Example day 1
- Dungeon #1
- World boss
- World boss
- Dungeon #2
- World boss
- FotM
Log out, repeat for days 2-7 with minor variance, visit shopping centre on day 7.
Remember, other people would like some new PERMANENT (hopefully challenging) content or different method of actually earning the items, as in playing for them, as in playing the game for them, because you know, it’s a game, and not a job. Not grinding gold through the same old repetitive chores, then visiting the shops.
Not everyone wants to play a game the same way they live their work life.

@Branden Gee
Any idea when character normalization will be implemented?
Branden Gee is new, by the time he has any tenure there to make such a change his contract will have ended and a new employee will have taken his place.
This would be funny if it wasn’t true.
And such is the GW2 circle of life.
“We’ve added some new skins/items to the game. We know you’d enjoy actually earning them through various in game feats of skill/intelligence/perseverance, but we’re going to save you the trouble of actually playing the game. Use your credit card to buy gems, and you can obtain the new items instantly! Isn’t that fun? Aren’t you glad we did this?”
TY ANet for making a shop instead of a game.
Disgusting.
So, do you find the concept of choice disgusting, or do you find your own weak-willed-ness that leads to you buying things when you could have played for them instead disgusting?
I like how you deliberately stayed away from the “earn it through in game feats” part.

And from a gaming standpoint, why have a huge zone that has nothing more than vistas, jumping puzzles, POI’s, and waypoints? What is the use in that? It is a dead zone in that case good for nothing more than map completion and jumping puzzle achievements.
You mean just like 80% of the other maps?
I quite enjoy looking at NA gold, and seeing that it is the only league out of 6 of them, where one server didn’t win EVERY SINGLE WEEK. NA gold (T1) is the only league playing WvW properly.
Seriously, NA silver/bronze and all 3 EU leagues have one server face rolling the rest. That. Is. Boring.
NA gold for president.
It is a game. It is not real life. It takes inspiration from real life, just like all art. If anyone gets upset from tasteful artistic inspiration, they need a reality check, as this does not affect them in any way, shape or form.
Art is being censored.
Now look at which 2 countries are involved. China and Korea.
Do not let dictatorships censor art as well as information.

Disgusting.
Am i the only one that actually learned to time other player’s skills instead of watching them on their character? looking at buffs and estimating cooldowns? yesterday i dodged 5 evicerates in a row from an asura war just by looking at my cooldowns every so often to know when 5 secs pass (i am aware that evic has a 10 sec cd)
The only actual visual animation i look out for is the giant blue aura when anyone heals to interrupt it, and obvious casted skills like ele casting meteor shower, killshot, and stupid stuff like that.
This is not bragging, this is just how I though most people played; by knowing the class theyre fighting. And no, im not a 90% pve hero noob.
So what happen’s when you face a good Warrior, last night I had Warrior using Soldier’kitten me for 6125+1700 (Lightning Strike) using evic, I was running bunker Ranger, now tell me how is that fair I couldn’t see him coming there was allot of AoE to point where I couldn’t even see myself.
i dont see how my argument is any different against a good warrior. i face good warriors. Ill make it easier for you: target the warrior, if you see 3 stacks of intelligence on his bar that evic is coming
Take if when you face a Warrior you have pack of Winny Red’s tucked under the sleeve of your shirt while rocking the mullet.
I have no idea what hes trying to say, someone translate please lol
He’s calling someone a bogan. Who? I’m not sure. The start of the sentence throws me off.
What devs?
WvW never had any.
In close to 2 years:
In almost 2 years only one “big” project has been under taken, and it was a project that has nothing to do with WvW, and the Living Story team made it.
This points to one simple truth.
WvW never had any devs. And it never will.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
Not burnt out cause I’ve only logged in twice since the ‘big feature patch’. (Achieves done anyway)
I simply don’t like the direction the company is going in, until they stop trying to put their hands into peoples pockets instead of improving the game, I will continue logging in rarely.
No!!! Quit digging up old posts and go play the game in all its Glory…
Glory was removed from the game before the big feature patch
Soon™
Or maybe they are trying to give us mashed potato and gravy, instead of the potato that we are asking for.
Source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Transparency-It-was-here-now-its-gone/first#post4019712
We ordered a potato ANet, just grab it, and hand it over, don’t go cooking something fancy that we didn’t order.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
This happens when the servers lag.
And the servers are lagging 24/7
Best way to abuse it for a laugh is to continually spam jump after taking fall damage, even on flat ground.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
Another Red Post (4 of them) with 0 information in it.
Granted the potato post was somewhat funny, the continuous fluff postings just adds to the already overboard customer frustration, since almost every red post on the forums contains nothing of value at all.
Mashed potato and gravy is all fine and dandy, if that’s what the order is. If I order wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce, that’s what I expect to be made!
They refuse to take our money. There is nothing we can do.
you can just use rampage as one to avoid the stun and face plant the thief before the evade mechanic starts
The stun is already avoided by the block effect of counter attack.
This time we get a new map:
ConditionHammer
Same map, new gun.
Now when you are hit you get every single condition applied to you for 15 seconds (25 stacks of bleed and torment). Cannot be dodged or blocked. Still knocks you down. Still has gigantic aoe.
Oh, and it will be in SoloQ and TeamQ.
Of course, stealth and evade has no counter play. THIEF OP #gimmickmechanics.
Another content recycle.
It’s all they’ve done.
So what exactly is there to be excited about? Someone inform me please.
Here’s hoping the Gauntlet will have some new fights. Liadri and the 8 orb achievement were fun and challenging, but I’ve done them, and the game needs more challenging content. Who am I kidding, there won’t be any additional fights, just a standard recycle.
50% less points during night problem solved, karma train scrubs still get there karma but are not the only reason server wins.
“Yeah curse those people who don’t live in America. Punish these heathens for playing during their own prime time. How dare they log in and play the 24/7 game while Americans sleep.
#MURICA"
/facepalm
They’d have to make 6 new maps (1 home map per race, with racial terrain and features, and a 5-way Eternal Battlegrounds map).
Given after 2 years all they’ve made is a PvE farming map and labelled it a WvW map, and one small change to the borderland maps (can’t treb bay from garri), hoping for 6 new maps would take their development team 10-15 years.
Then of course, the population imbalance, the Charr would be zerged all day by humans (like Blackgate). Even if the Charr are far superior at combat, the almighty zerg will 1 over them. I suppose Charr/Norn/Sylvari/Asura could 4v1 the humans and cause #HumanTears2014.
And finally, switching to a different character which is a different race, puts you onto an entirely different team. Effectively making the idea as pointless as Edge of the Mists.
We need less Edge of the Mists and more World Versus World.
So it doesn’t matter what gems are, it’s how Anet decides they’re going to work that matters.
Yes! This! You understand that ‘gems’ are nothing but a word that a company created a story behind.
But as for there being a player/company controlled ‘market’ or ‘supply’ of these ‘gems’ is entirely up to you to believe in or break free of.
I added a small edit to my last 2 posts (I usually do, it’s a bad habit of hitting post before finishing).
Well actually they did manipulate precursor drop rates (not direct quantity, but their actions do affect quantity), they increased the drop chance for precursors by a very very very miniscule amount.
Precursors are an unfair comparison though. Precursors are equipment on a loot table with an impossible odd of rolling. The item serves many purposes, but currency is not one of them.
Gems are a currency used to purchase things, and serves no other purpose.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
“gems in the pool”?
Sorry the break the news to you.
The ‘gems’ are a fictional/virtual currency which does not have, and will never have, any kind of tangible quantity associated with its existence.
The ‘gems’ are infinite.
No. Read the dev statement listed above. Gems are NOT infinite, we create them—and we’re the only source through which they can be created.
Even if they do have a limited quantity in existence at any given time, the quantity is a virtual figure.
This virtual figure is nothing more than a number in a text box which can be edited by the company at any time.
Even if ‘supply’ of this virtual and invisible resource miraculously hits 0, do you think the company controlling their very existence would sit there and say “sorry, we have no more gems to sell! We can’t take your money!”
Anet could inject gems into the market. But will they? I severely doubt it. Instead, they’ll leave it to us players to buy gems with real money and create more gems to put into the market. They WILL take our money—indeed, real money is the only way that gems can be created, aside from the paltry 400 gems per 10000 achievement points. They’re not selling gems, they’re selling us the means of creating gems. THE GEMS DO NOT EXIST UNTIL WE BUY THEM WITH REAL MONEY. This is a simple fact, and I don’t care if you believe it or not, but the devs have explicitly said so, and there is nothing that creates gems outside of gem cards, credit card purchases on the TP, and AP rewards. Period.
Take a walk, get some fresh air, lose the naivety.
Then read the reality of my post again.
Do not let their marketing ploy trick you.
‘Gems’ could have 0 or 987133701337013370133701337013375423687458697412 next to its name. What does it mean?
Nothing. It is meaningless. There is no quantity, players do not make it, arena net do not make it. It is an infinite existence like outer space.

I really question if people actually use the housing system in most games. I think the game with the most extensive housing system ive ever played was RuneScape. You can build everything from throne rooms to a personalised public dungeon in your house, and there even an entire instances map to serve as a guild hall/citadel/mapthing.
No one ever bothered with any of it after a couple of years. The developers actually tried to get people back in there by adding more and more features, but it still pretty much went ignored by most of the player base.
I heard about the Runescape incarnation of player housing/guild hall, but never cared to witness it. But if you say it had a couple of years of player interest, I call that a success in their design books.
