PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.
Does it always have to make sense in the lore? How do lovestruck weapons fit into the lore? How does Zodiac anything fit into the lore?

As for Lovestruck? Love is a massive part of life, real or virtual, and in the GW universe, is a common interaction and theme.
That would be mostly a fair argument, except it is absolutely not their fault they aren’t someone either unemployed or a student with a lot of time. If they weren’t willing to put the time in, sure, it’s their fault, but it’s not fair to say it’s their fault for having to go to work. Some of us have to put in long hours.
You work for 16 or more hours EVERY SINGLE DAY of the week/fortnight/month/quarter/year? You have not even 1 hour of free time on ANY day?
I didn’t think so. If it was true, you’d change jobs or sue your employer.
I made the exotic backpiece after 2 runs (or was it 3? Let’s assume 3), and I had no idea what I was doing, each run is 45 minutes. Exotic is 425 blade shards total, ascended is an extra 500 shards, so you’re looking at 6 to 9 (9 being most, 6 or 7 being standard) runs to complete the shard requirement.
Assuming 9 runs, that’s 6 hours and 45 minutes of playing. You can’t find 45 minutes on 9 different days to play in a two week period? (or longer on weekends). Let’s say 7 runs, that’s 5 hours and 15 minutes over 2 weeks.
If you somehow can’t find 45 minutes to play on a couple of days… then… sorry, you missed out. But you aren’t missing out on anything necessary.
Everyone has jobs and other commitments, believe it or not.
Law of Big Numbers when dealing with RNG should show a greater tendency toward actual odds. So 500 chests gives us a practical number of 14 tickets. That’s much lower than I inspected. The 1 in 5 for scraps is close to what I expected but the 1 in 125 for an actual ticket is much lower than I expected.
Your mistake is thinking that 500 is a large enough number. It’s not a large number. Ten thousand is a large number.
By that logic, if we were sampling ants for whatever reason, 10,000 isn’t a large enough number, we’d need 100 million.
Sample size is dependent on what is being sampled. For a overpriced RNG item in a game, I’d say 500 is as good a sample size as any, considering MOST people are not going to open anywhere even remotely close to that many chests in the entire time they play the game.
It’s inevitable. I think you forget the reason you don’t pay a monthly fee … it’s because of all items Anet sell in the gemstore. If a few are P2W (this one certainly is far from that), you shouldn’t complain because the guy buying them is funding the game i.e., he’s paying FOR YOU to play FOR FREE. It’s a selfish outlook.
Your ‘argument’ is illogical and invalid and easily disproven. And here is why:
GW1 is/was buy to play, no monthly fee. The cash shop (which developed years after release) only sold costumes, and account upgrades that would let new players (who had no interest in pve) jump fully into PvP.
Also, servers (for anything on the internet) cost next to nothing to run and maintain. Especially for a business, even a small business.
:) sniffs the air and breathes out long and loud
If you’re going to ‘argue’ a point, maybe sure it makes sense. Ty.
Cash shops NEVER, EVER “fund the game for people who choose to not pay any extra”. Get this idea out of your head, because it is wrong in every single way. Though it is cute you said it.
I will admit it is cute that you let Blizzard mind control you into thinking monthly fee’s were mandatory and necessary. As well as believing 10 hour down times once per week were necessary. Blizzard is/was/will always be a joke.
ANet, the reason I bought this game is because I was PROMISED there would be no pay to win, and no vertical gear grind. Both were broken. And both were for the worse.

Dem cheeks.
There’s plenty in the game, if you mix and match sets you can pull off some… interesting looks.
If it’s not worth it to you, then don’t buy it. It’s worth it to some others, so they’ll buy it.
It’s not worth it to anyone, and no one see’s it as worth it. The people that buy it have an addiction that is being exploited.
If the game is 4v5 when the initial pre game timer hits 0, it should reset to 1 min, boot the afker, and get a new person.
If 4v5 happens mid game then oh well tough nuts. Most 4v5’s I get are people afk who never join at all.
Really wish they’d implement my first sentence.
Vigor needs to go, so does perma evasion from skills (thief sword and shortbow, ranger gs 1).
Spammable perma evasion takes so much skill out of the game, it makes my eyes cry.
Skins like dwaynas longbow/shortbow cannot be deposited for some unknown reason, what will happen to these undepositable skins?
Ascended gear is my most hated enemy.
We will just have to see how the PvP rewards overhaul works, these sets may become attainable for pve on march 18th.
Attacking things with a blowtorch isn’t enough for you….
It must be a blowtorch with rainbows and unicorns flying around the character, and leave small craters in the ground filled with candy!
Waypoints are too powerful as it is, the contested mechanic will never change to be harder to achieve.
I personally think they’re in a good spot.
Engi grenades destroy my fps in spvp. Oddly enough they don’t destroy my fps in wvw. They’re the only thing in the game that destroys my fps.
I thought this was meant to have been addressed?
For both options focus on landing your bow 5 skill and never having 2 full bars of adren, typically you want to have <1 charge so you are actually making use of your natural regen.
Did you mean endurance?
My engineer wears settlers and destroys warriors and thieves, even 2v1, soooooo, l2p?
This song may sum up the armour set for some people.
Good ol’ Angry Joe.
Also if you want to make some money, add a light/medium/heavy armor skin of the thief starter hood. Seriously. I will buy ten.
Alternatively you could buy another character slot (if you’re full), one time 800 gems, then remake a thief 10 times transmuting the hood. Much cheaper!
If someone drove up next to you with a white windowless van and said he could take you somewhere, anywhere, would you get in?
Treat strange portals the same. Stranger danger!
Zodiac armor makes mesmer phantasms look horrible!
Not even considering buying it untill that gets fixed.
Which one is the illusion? Dang it’s got me fooled!
So it happened.. they gave in and now any future change (in 6 months) will be futile due to Gift hoarding.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
Thank you.
Though hopefully we get some specific insight before the patch, that details these big upcoming changes :p
yeah wound be nice if they could change that, i know some guys prefer big butts, but i dont …from behind it looks like a diferent person
ps: wound be awesome if i could change skin color !
The glow color is the same tech used in twilight and sunrise, basically a BG that shows through your skin acting as a window. So changing that color may not ever be an option..
But seriously DAT “BEHIND”… It has to change… Look at this…
Again, optical illusion caused by the cape. Your character didn’t suddenly get an enlarged butt, the cape resting on those child bearing hips is confusing you.
What a caboose.
By the way it’s just an optical illusion caused by the cape hanging off, it didn’t change anything.
Start taking inputs form the community SERIOUSLY, before it’s too late.
If your ‘suggestions’ are anything to go by, I sure hope they don’t.
You’re either half naked or dressed like a 14 year old.
They’re one and the same these days.
The 30/30/30/30/30 build that is constantly complained about all over the forums works the best.
It has access to 5 weapon sets to swap to, 2 armour sets equipped at once, and even has other class specific mechanics like clones, stealth and death shroud.
Check it out!
Look at all these people wishing they were a blue Sylvari.
My 3 plants scoff at you posers!
Sylvari master race
Ah right, seems I read it out of context :p
I’m tired to play a broken pvp where 4 of 5 player are warrior or necro. Delete all the other classes at this point?
4-5 wars or necro on the enemy team? That sounds like a free win to me.
we who have opened the chests because of your confusing posts “all random existing reward chests will disappear” need to be able to exchange our useless arcane powder/crystal/silver/orbs that we got in massive amounts for nothing (atm).
There are some good looking skins you can make with them if you do not have them yet.
As for this bit you wrote:
if you’re doing something to award people who has many chests unopened, it should be done to the mats as well.
Could someone tell me what this means? How would saving up chests benefit anyone post patch?
Heck, ever since the game started, and I had enough coins, I have been running on my Lv78 Exotic Berserker gear with Traveller Rune (yes, even before they become pricey). And I mean, ALL of my toons!!
Am I being a problem that drags my team and slow them down? HELL yeah!
Have I been kicked in PuG, be it in WvW, dungeon, FotM or EotM? Well I will be now after posting this knowledge.
Fixed that for you.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
Do you REALLY want a Legendary weapon?? As heard in VoiP so many times, “Look, that guy has a Lgendary! KILL THEM!!!” Commence the zerg turning to go after a solo person who is leaving little spots behind them when they run….
LOL, how is that Legendary working out now?
Great, because if and when that happens (never), you’ll have wasted time, because you’ll never catch me If anything I’ll pick off one from your tail in your ill-disciplined group.
This, so much this.
The 2 ascended chests I received, 1 from drop 1 from rank up, were both for the carrion stat, the most useless stat combo in the game. If I had a choice of what stat to pick, I could benefit from the RNG Lottery that blessed me with a drop in the first place. As it stands currently, I’d give my 2 carrion junk chests away to a new player if they weren’t account bound.
“run away warriors” is not a class, its a build, a build designed for moving and not killing.
Just like how d/p thief is built to be an annoying invisible spamming and practically unkillable mess.
Just like how PU mesmer is built to be an unkillable escaping mess.
Just like how dhuumfire built necros are designed to be the best 1v1 class.
Just like how perplexity equipped engineers are built to be /pointed and /laughed at.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
If you see a 1v1 never interfere, tag the enemy if he gets downed, or revive your ally if he gets downed, but until someone is downed, watch or move on!
Chances are, even if they weren’t looking for a duel to begin with, they’d prefer to finish their fight.
The only exceptions to this are:
- If the enemy is a PU mesmer
- If the enemy is using perplexity runes
Go right ahead and interfere then, your ally will be thankful.

The only time that retaliation has been a problem for me in this game, is using barrage with ranger, and that was pre retal nerf. Though ranger still gets drilled by it when using barrage.
Retaliation has never been a problem for me with any other class. Though I do hear flamethrower engineers get annihilated. And I suppose fiery rush (FGS 4) would get destroyed too but not many run that willingly into the middle of a zerg.
To be honest retaliation is just one of those things in the background, not sure how this is a big deal.
@OP, you might enjoy sitting inside towers because you aren’t good at combat, doing nothing more than watching moa’s and drakes and griffins walk around eating grass, but not everyone else thinks this is fun.
Frankly if I’m going to sit down and play the game, I’m going to actually do something, not stare at the screen and eat burgers for hours on end.
I don’t mind PPTing so that the enemy comes to defend or recap, that’s the best way to draw them out of hiding.
It was like 10 ish weeks, more or less, of dragonbrand vs borlis pass vs ehmry bay.
With db being super sea heavy and Bp/eBay having no night crew. ZoD/GH/DIE just gave up and let themselves be bought.
Before you spread misinformation you should probably learn the facts, I had a few good chuckles at your salt.
Sea of Sorrows does not buy guilds. We want people who want to be apart of a community that focuses on fun, not people role playing as mercenaries (Lol @ JQ/BG).
They paid for their own transfers, and came of their own free will, to the server with the best wvw community in GW2. On top of being the best GW2 community, our server had time slots where we have no guilds running, and mostly empty maps. These guilds came here because they wouldn’t be battling queues, and they’d have full recruiting power in the time zone they play. As well as having guilds that play and hold down the fort in different time zones.
You’re upset with 24 hour coverage wars, so direct your anger at that issue instead.
SPvP will definitely make you a better player.
Not really at WvW though. Its very different fighting against someone in WvW and someone in sPvP. The meta builds arent even close in stats, especially for the extremes you will meet while roaming (such as theives in full zerker stealth builds).
And that is exactly why sPvP helps to become a better player.
In sPvP the fights are quick to come by, in wvw a good fight is relatively few and far between, meaning you can practice at a constant speed in sPvP.
In wvw, there are people looking for map completion, people looking for dailies, people running to their zerg, and seasoned roamers. None of these are ideal for learning the basics of self reliant combat.
Instead of a new player being 2 hit by some cheese thief, in sPvP he will be able to learn how to deal with it on a progressive level.
SPvP has no stat creep, no food, no borderland bloodlust, no guard stacks, which means a player can focus on learning the core of the game/classes, and then worrying about the pve/wvw stat creep later. Trying to handle everything at once as a new player is a futile attempt.
Yes the builds can be different (slightly), but that means nothing when it comes to learning the basics of the game.
SPvP also allows for ease of testing different builds. If you want to test a different build in wvw you’re going to have to get new weapon and armour stats and runes, all of which are costly or time consuming, sPvP is instant.
You won’t ever find a good roamer in wvw who does not play sPvP, they go hand in hand.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge#Structured_Player_versus_Player
And creating gear goes along the lines of:
1 gear token (weapon/armour piece, bought at rank vendors)
1 rank or tournament token (dolyak, wolf, tiger etc, or free/paid tournament token)
1 arcane orb/crystal/sliver (depending on the gear you want to roll for)
5 arcane powder
^ For step 3 (orb, crystal, sliver), refer to this:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_reward
Basically the entire community needs an answer on this ASAP.
I usually use my memory, it’s one of those high tech and super expensive gadgets you need to go out and buy. Oh wait…
Btw stop bumping this, there are already many methods at your disposal for dealing with this, so we have NO IDEA what you’re hoping to gain at all here. Memory, write it down, notepad, excel, memory.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
Yeah but realistically with diminishing returns punishing player loot, and how few and far between the drops are, it’s not very practical compared to repeating a dungeon for the 1000th time and buying them from the TP.
Tactics, composition and skill will prevail regardless of your gear in that situation.
There have been times (multiple) when I was roaming, and had people on an entirely empty bar of health, only to get one of their defensive skills off then manage to heal or stealth/run away. Had I had ANY amount of extra stats, or had he had a FEW less defensive stat bonuses from his gear (tough, vit, heal, armour), he would of been downed.
These kinds of games are all about numbers, claiming that having more numbers than another player has no bearing on the game is ignorant. Ascended super grind alt killing tier is a problem in the game.
Yes.
Despite the gear/buffs/food/landscape differences between the two, sPvP will teach you the basics of timing your skills/dodges effectively, and the basics of movement and positioning as defensive tools. Oh and using obstacles (trees, rocks, buildings etc) on the map as defence against ranged classes/skills.
You won’t learn anything from zergball 1 mashing and tagging downed players for loot (don’t get me wrong, I love this)
SPvP will definitely make you a better player.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
After 900 ranks or so, I’ve had 1 ring (Vassar’s band) and 1 ascended weapon (dropped from keep lord) and 1 armour chest (rank up). Except the weapon and armour are both for carrion stat aka the most useless stat combo in this game, so I’ll never be opening them. It would be nice if we could PICK something we actually can use/want.
Maybe one day they’ll help WvW out, one day.
Borrowing the name of the chest thread because it got a red banner response.
What is going to happen to the forgeable mats??
Are they going to disappear? If not, will their current recipes still exist, or will they be used for something new after the update?
Preferably I (and others) would like a direct answer either telling us to make dyes/gear with it now, or hold onto it for new things on march 18th.
The information we have received is confusing, and doesn’t tell us what is going to be happening.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
Dude. o_O
Have you ever experienced something really tragic in your life ? ‘Cos if that’s how you react to such an insignificant loss …
I think you’re missing the point. This isn’t a ‘tragic loss’, it is people being cheated. People don’t like to be cheated. No one. Ever.
Can’t help but face palm when I read the posts mentioning JP farming with level 22 alts.
GW2 logic: to get an end game item, one must first ignore all sources of level progression and farm low level content.
^ Ridiculous. Anet needs to fix that.
(edited by thaooo.5320)
snip
The people you know are pve players, and trading post flippers.
WvW players do not make money, and this is a proven fact.
Also, hardcore pve grinding is not equal to pvp skill level, just informing you of this well known and basic FACT.
Also, anyone that wants to consider themselves a hardcore pvp player cares about one thing and one thing only, skill level being the main factor, not gear-grind-2-win for cheap and pathetic advantages.
We all know exactly which category the players you mentioned are in.
