If one substitutes the Ranger in this first video with Engineer Rifles in relation to warrior rifles, I can totally relate. (that’s why I didn’t post this in the class forums because I’m talking about two here not just one) I think this was spot on with one of the issues with Nov 15th and the ongoing issues with the classes being balanced and bugs being fixed by a very tiny team, so we usually end up being highly disappointed when waiting on patch day. (I know I am as an Engineer. Quite a number of problems still are there but have claimed to be fixed. The cone attacks on my FT/EG for one sure they don’t miss as often but they still miss 40% of the time most notably when enemies run to my side suddenly like the honey boo boo child versions of the Risen) it amazes me that they have so few people working on the classes.

I especially love the part about “then why are they wasting time on aquatic weapons.”
And the best one of all “everyone who plays a thief or a warrior please leave the room” 80% of the people in the room walk out.

Anyway here’s the video illustrating how i felt about class balance every time I’ve waited for a patch to come out to see what they’ve done for engis to help that class out.

Unfortunately and I don’t understand how this could be, but I cannot find a single video talking about the loot specifically. The nerf to loot and the DR problem is well known and more and more people are discovering it. Many people have found alternatives to loot issues (mostly just Orr events that give approx 4 gold per hour or some such) It amazes me that no one has noticed this when we have crazy posts on the forums about it. I would love to see if anyone has videos to share about that particular subject. if anyone has any please feel free to email me the link or post.

I agree but it doesn’t do anything for any gameplay style much less wvw. It’s crazy if you actually make it back up without help in pve as well. The explosion hardly doesn enough damage at all it’s like throwing three grenades and that’s it, just a couple of fireworks when it’s supposed to be setting off all of what we got left at once while downed, the pull cord is ridiculous as most things come to us anyways and the junk should really be bombs even if they were the equivolent of throwing grenades they would hit more then 1 enemy at once improving our chances of rallying.

Of course that’s if they fixed the explosion radius thing.

Would You Still Play if There was NO Loot?

Despite my lengthy post above. Since this game is designed WITH loot with stats, loot needed for mats for crafting, and loot needed to make any gold whatsoever without being herded to the store to buy gems for gold, loot or the lackthereof is the reason why I only login for dailies, if that. I’ve been playing other games. My GM left the game, the guy who founded my guild completely left because of the ongoing ignored problems that DR creates for players (not for bots).

It’s definitely a stealth nerf and I just love these people who continue to push the fantasy that it’s luck or RNG, there’s nothing absolutely random about their or any other system it is always +- manipulated by Anet. Since Nov’s first reports this problem has gotten worse and worse and it’s not going to go away until the players that remain become as outraged about this as we all were about the “combo field” daily.

Dunno if this was mentioned before but I noticed today that Speedy Gadgets does not affect the cooldowns of the toolbelt skills when a gadget is equipped.

The cooldown on my goggles was 32 while the analyze ability was still 40. weird.

Actually as a long time engi, pvp is the only place that the engi is working properly for the most part and has the most options for builds because they’ve done nothing but balance pvp. They’ve not touched pve save for a single dps boost from increasing the kit damage output to what it should have been in the first place.

PVP is fine PVE has a long long way to go baby.

Just found out my guild leader the guy who made my guild decided to leave the game permanently.

Why? Two reasons.

  1. because the drop rates. Can’t say I blame him this thread is nearing the 1200 mark.
  2. because necros problems have not been fixed. Honestly as an engineer I have the greatest sympathy for that one.

As a bonus here’s my experience for the day. The daily today to kill all those veterans. Not a single thing dropped from them. Not even the typical single blue out of 5 vets dropped. Actually let me correct myself, I actually killed 8 because I got myself stuck somewhere where there’s a ton of mobs and couldn’t escape due to cc. So it’s really worse then I was saying before.

when a smoke cloud in a warzone, or a dust cloud in a desert, or a blizzard in a snowy zone comes thru I fully expect to have my vision impaired a bit, it’s nice.

If so bravo it does look alot better with realistic atmospherics. I am in places I’ve spent alot of time in again after this patch and it seems it’s much different. A definite improvement.

Weird thing is I put together a temple +healing set some time ago since most of them don’t have power and precision side by side it seems I already have a precision set.

I liked it the first month. It was worth it to sneak around and dig into the dark caves in places most people missed because there were rewards that were worth the time and effort. Then Nov came along, and suddenly nothing dropped anything anymore so I went back to the chests i knew existed and what did i find, even they had been nerfed, so no reward for finding the chests. What’s the point. I miss the mmo’s or games that had secret chests filled with gold that you could find out in the wilderness, or even dangerous minibosses guarding said treasure or even a trap filled dungeon like hole in the ground (I found one once and you had to use rocks on platforms but when I made it to the chest I was highly disappointed because the reward for all that time spent was something I could get off of regular mobs, not worthy of all that effort at all).

I really wish people would stop saying it’s luck. It’s not luck. Mathematically it doesn’t exist. Also, I really wish people would stop saying welcome to RNG because it’s not entirely random either, mankind hasn’t discovered the equation for complete randomness, so games like these certainly don’t use that equation and they always have a bias of +- according to what they want to balance.

This is the key reason why I started calling the mystic forge “the mystic toilet” because you pretty much flush all of your mats down the toilet when you use it.

Not instead imo but in addition to. We definitely NEED a weekly especially when if retro isn’t patched in february or ever, then we’re looking at 16 months of dailies to get what we need to completely gear in ascended gear. Seriously that’s cray cray in the hay hay.

I would love a weekly that doesn’t include a dodge X opponents attacks, combo kill X enemies, run X dungeons, kill X number of enemies in pvp. You know stuff that’s open world pve focused like we expected the dailies to be so we can get people out of LA and back into the rest of the world.

Of course it being a weekly they’d have somewhere inbetween the monthly and daily numeric requirements.

The cost of changing builds is too high

I was one of the ones trying to explain this to people.

Changing builds isn’t as easy as just going to a trainer and resetting points. In this game if they break all condition damage then you need to reset to burst, if they break burst, then you need to change it to something else. Each time you have to change gear out.

It’s part of the reason why there is such an outrage about this especially in the Engineering forums, because the engineer is already nerfed, so when they change something there’s really hardly anything else to change out to. And when you do have to change you have to change your entire set of gear, runes, sigils and everything there is no simple solution. What makes it worse now is there economy is completely broken. 6-8 gold per armor piece is outrageous perceived or not it’s common sense that shouldn’t cost that much especially when doing normal events drop nothing and you sell the items you get to the vendors (because selling them in the broken TP is actually LOWER then selling to the vendor in many cases) to get just a few bits of silver each time.

Dual spec wouldn’t help much either. For one thing there’s no mechanic to easily switch between armor sets right now. And what if they break something the next time that happens to break both of your armor sets that you were using for dual spec just before the change.

I think that they should have absolutely been focused on making the math and behaviors between pve and pvp work differently from the very launch of the game and that would have made sure much of what pve has suffered from in the persuit of balancing pvp invisible.

I hated it when I was playing WoW it’s THE key reason why I left WoW during Cataclysm because they never separated the code so every single time they did a “balance” to the hunter I had to go back to the drawing board. I was so hoping they didn’t do this at GW2. It’s one of the reasons I stopped playing and I’m still a little hesitant to come back fully even with the slight improvements to the engineer.

Would You Still Play if There was NO Loot?

Depends on how they set that up. When they started the interviews the original design was supposed to be the first ever horizontal progression themepark. It was supposed to get ALL of the scores needed for stats and damage improvements entirely from leveling and trait choices, the gear was not supposed to have a single stat score on it.

It would have been big imo because it would eliminate so many problems we have today. The progression we have right now is requires you use the TP which requires you have gold which requires you buy gems. Hopefully this will change as people start buying the mats from the laurel vendors.

If they didn’t start the game with a stat increase then there wouldn’t have been as much outrage over their Nov 15th patch, because Nov started off with stealth nerfs to drops which directly affected the economy negatively. On my first level 80 I was able to buy a full set of exotic gear for 6 gold. That was every piece, the runes, the sigils, and weapons. (At the time i thought i could make the jewelry easily little did i know that the rares in JC would require ectos.) Now 6 gold might not even be enough to buy a crafted piece of armor for a single slot. And what gets me is people think that’s normal or perceived.

my disappointment about this game is on many levels and it would be too much to go into for this thread. I do not envy what the newcomers have to deal with, the disappointment tho is not from what the game was like at launch, it’s from what they’ve done since. It’s from the stealth nerfs to loot, the breaking of my favorite class, and the direction they’ve taken not to improve choices but to further limit them. Even with the problems they had at launch, the first month was a utopia imo.

If they had stuck with the original game design there would be no outrage happening in these forums about the economy or the grind.

I think you’ll find there’s many a player who would rather there be no gear grind whatsoever because it’s been such a difficult thing to balance in mmo’s and that not only would the majority of players not only still play but they’d also spend more in the store (with real money) because it’s so much more pleasant an experience when you like a game enough to support it, then when you are forced to go to get gold because the loot is completely gone.

Has anyone else heard about dragon chests disappearing? People are speculating that the DR has gotten so bad that it makes entire dragon chests disappear now.

I’ve played the past couple of days. Still no improvement in drops. I’ve killed every veteran and champ I see, and nothing. They just don’t seem to care or there’s something wrong with their data gathering software somewhere in there if it’s truly not showing them what’s happening to us.

While I am enjoying the build I’ve chosen because it doesn’t seem to get touched, and I’m enjoying the ability to not use kits and only use the toolbelt abilities from kits and 1 turret, and I only play pve, I can completely sympathize with the rest of you.

I had high hopes that they would have fixed the glaring issues with this class. They claimed they fixed the miss problems with the cone attacks for example, my FT still misses smh all the mobs have to do is run to the side. Even tho my character is turning to compensate it’s still ridiculous to see. Not to mention the speed on cone attacks other then torch is absolutely horrid and useless.

The speed on pistols still hasn’t been fixed on the engineer or the thief so they’ll continue to fire as slowly as a rifle fires.

While I understand why they made a jump shot, the animation still makes that one of the slowest and most self vul inflicting abilities in the game.

And Quite frankly, they needed to make the grenades #1 target single target explode on impact just like the napalm from the #2 FT ability and all toolbelt abilities.

Even tho they gave them rings, mobs are still able to run all over the top of mines, doesn’t matter which one i use or how low in level the enemies are, it is completely laughable how little damage these mines do and how they do not cripple anything like they should.

They’ve needed to change the toolbelt abilities to make them all a autotarget mechanism so one isn’t fumbling trying to point while dodging or running around, we have seriously too many abilities that we need to point with. One has to use both hands and the right foot to play this class properly one day the devs might realize this hopefully.

Traits for this class don’t work half the time. They are not equal in design or functionality to their leatherwearing counterparts. When will they learn that taking damage isn’t the best system of giving buffs, and giving this class the same “at-50%” trigger for higher final damage output will bring it on par with the thief and ranger.
Meanwhile we’ll continue to be subpar on damage output and meanwhile the broken physics of our skills and the mockery of 20th century war weaponry will continue.

And finally turrets (pretty much all pets) still need a 90% immunity to AOE damage so that the builds that rely on these pets aren’t easily mowed over like they aren’t there….still haven’t learned from the mistakes of past mmo’s yet on many things it seems. Until they take these things seriously this class will remain mediocre.

Engineer, weapons which defying physics only in Tyria. Sad really.

That is known already, but I suggest you check kit-refinement (trait) options too if you’re theorycrafting, you might find smtg pretty useful… However I must warn you the rune of grenth set grants just a 2s chill duration (not 3s) thus is VERY hard to stack some duration, I already reported that in the bug section of the forum, I suggest you check the rune of balthazar set, it provides long burning and better damage.

As you’ll be swapping a bit you may also find useful the Sigils of leeching and Doom (now that they’r fixed).

One last thing… those AoE-triggered effects mostly work for pvp, don’t build around that for pve you can’t stay so close as an engi even if you use the toolkit.

I mostly use it in Orr right now, especially with so many enemies chasing me or when we have those wonderful respawn bugged mobs just show up all of a sudden. Yeah it works wonders as a quick escape option now. I can freeze everything around me and run off screaming like a mad scientist.

I agree, even if this thread is written in jest, why couldn’t some of these items be dailies or part of the proposed weeklies so many have asked for? Why does it all have to be the crazy things we almost never do (some of us actually play this game without dodging in pve is that so weird?)

How are your drops “broken” exactly?

because you don’t get as many as you want, because they’re not as rare as you want?

I’ve literally gotten 1 rare per month, does that seem normal to you? Doesn’t to me. Another promise broken, Vets/Champs are not dropping what they should. Rewards are not being issued for time spent.

As an engineer I’d like to know this too. I would love to see the condition damage restored to pve so that we’d have build diversity again and be able to do defense and deal a decent amount of damage without thinking about it, like the way the other two adventurer classes are easy to setup condi builds and not use the same classification of abilities over and over to do a rather large upfront burst to reach 50% then recieve their numerous “on-50%” buffs and bonuses to damage.

Hi folks had something weird happen to me today so I thought I might report it to you and let you guys know about it. Apparently the medkit “on equip” ability is considered a heal. So Whatever you have in your sixth rune slot if it’s an on heal ability and if you have all of the same type is what spell effect is going to go off when you equip it now that runes and sigils work with kits.

I am using the Superior Rune of Grenth set, it gives me some escape options and I use the Sigil of Ice usually on my weapon or of Hydromancy, whichever I feel like using that day. Anyway. To keep from being redundant I’m usually using Ice so that my freezes last longer making it longer to get to me. This runeset helps with that.

It freezes enemies that come up to you and hit you. And the #6 has an on heal AOE freeze. I’ve discovered it goes off just by switching to the medkit in or out of battle should be handy for an escape or two. But you have to have kit refinement slotted for it to work that way.

Just an FYI for those who didn’t know.

Whatever happened to choice, guess it went out the window with the mobile apps and the “choice” of things to do for good loot.

Anyone know what the Laurel Vendor one is? Oh well at least that one is easy. :P

Thank you very much for changing the daily to remove things like the dodge and combo field kills. That is awesome.

Might I take a moment to request that you put in a weekly that has things like underwater kills, kill variety, and open world focused events (even crafting) to give a third means of gathering laurels?

24k is pretty good actually. Dunno who thought it wasn’t high enough. I’m running 20k in pve.

The problem isn’t just that your gear is rare it is that the thief and ranger are both designed to get enemies down with bonuses to their initial hits, engis unfortunately are highly imbalanced with their adventurer cousins because they don’t have this abililty. Just about every conditional that improves damage output for engineers requires that we lose health, play the piano, or become a lush and drink potions all day. It’s highly unfair. I’m surprised people aren’t more outraged about this honestly. I know I am and I hate pvp and try to avoid it at all costs.

They have some very very serious reworks to do on the placement of trait bonuses, the abilities that improve damage (because there are some that help the thief and ranger that we don’t have the equivolent of at ALL). I’ve posted a thread about the problems in the suggestions forum.

Here it is I go thru and make a comparison of the minor traits as well as those seem to give a very large advantage. Under the dps lines we have defensive abilities instead of the large % to damage bonuses the other two adventurer classes use.

Patch day laurel

Okay I posted this is in another thread but I feel like it will get lost without it’s own devoted topic.

The January monthly achievement did not reward the monthly laurels because it was determined to be unfair to those who completed it.

What about those of us that finished the daily achievement before the initial laurel patch took place? The people who did it after (on the same day, the same daily achievement) were rewarded a laurel.

How is this fair, and how is this any different to the reasoning behind not adding the reward to the January monthly.

It may not seem like a big deal – a single missing laurel – but I still think it’s very unfair that those of who completed the daily early are being penalized for doing so. Much like I’d think it unfair if the January monthly contained a laurel reward.

It isn’t imo and it’s a huge oversight to have allowed these dailies to launch without a weekly, or retro compensation for the achievements already done, or without properly testing what one could do to achieve the daily, or without the choices for what one would like to do to achieve the daily, or without the ability to have 1 daily per character per account.

It’s not like the 5 months we’ve been playing we haven’t earned them.

Yeah it’s dead one of the biggest reasons i bought this game was because of that. It would have been nice if they let people know prior to buying. I miss the one for Rift, it was nice to have a lottery where you could scratch off or roll for free currency for in game items every couple of hours. I liked playing that coming back to the game and buying the things I wanted to enhance my gameplay. Or chatting with friends about the day while they were running around the world, it would have been nice to see that occur in Tyria.

MF gear is completely useless they should remove it. All it does is cause people to wonder why the heck this mechanic is in the game and not properly tested in the first place. I seriously think they keep it in there so they can laugh at the people still using it and expecting something. Here it is 5 months later and they still haven’t lifted DR or required more extreme grinding times before DR kicks in. DR hits within 20 minutes for me I dunno who thought it was more then two hours HA.

What we need is a personal teleportation device to give us a blink mechanic.

Really wish we had one of those too. Or change the rocket boots to send us forward not backward and remove that 2 second self stun we have.

On the current system of laurels, to get my 1 toon geared entirely in ascended gear it will take 16 months to do this. This is assuming they never add the retro for the achievements already done, and to fill every slot and completely upgrade every ascended piece. That is not normal sorry, even games that were insanely difficult aren’t this bad about it. And then, even tho they increased the drop rates on heavy bags from Orrian mobs, it’s still a double RNG system. Actually it’s a triple RNG system for T6 mats now. There’s RNG to get heavy bags to drop, RNG to open the regular heavy bags to see what drops, and now we get RNG to see what drops from the Laurel bags.

We don’t need more bags, we need a direct way of getting T6 mats of a single kind. We need a way of buying 5 T6 mats of the same kind per laurel. Especially Lodestones. Between that and gossamer it’s like those two things are diamonds or something.

It should not be this difficult to gear up alts. I feel really bad for any newcomer that logs in gets to 80 and then discovers what they expect from them to get to max geared.

I would think no more so then logging into another toon in the same zone and getting the same chest that’s dropped for the first one. Apparently that’s perfectly fine.

If it was changed to rares dropping from each veteran kill and exotics from every champion, we’d be vendoring them like blues and greens since the game would be awash in them.

It would crash the economy.

The problem is we aren’t see anything of rare value drop off of the vets/champs at all and that’s if they drop anything. There’s plenty of evidence that it’s simply not working.

Rares off Vets and rares/exotics off Champions? Wow, another one that wants to ruin the economy! If the drop rate was working as intended then id expect rares to be, well, rare and exotics even more so!

That being said I personally dont think its working as intended as I hardly get a drop from Champions. Id appreciate a green or two for my troubles at least!

In case you haven’t noticed already, the economy is already ruined, 5 gold per piece of armor + 10 gold per rune or sigil is hardly normal imo. Those like you who’ve been profiting off of hte newbies by getting there the first month rushing to 80 and then exploiting the drop rate issues by gathering everything you could before the nerf doesn’t make it right or a normal economy and doesn’t mean that the drop rates from the vets/champs are normal either. 2200 people would like to beg to differ on that point.

I usually don’t do this but I’ve posted multiple times to the other thread but I’m not convinced we the community are being heard.

This thread is nearing the same size as the last one about this very same issue, this thread is almost at 1k, the last one was closed at 1.200 posts. Did I miss an AMA or something because I’ve not seen a single thing about it since. All I’d like to know specifically is is there something being done about the veteran/champion drop problem? Is there something wrong with it? I’ve not seen a single extra chest drop either someone said that might be happening…..At the very least we should be seeing rares off vets and rares/exotics off champs. There’s also been some speculation that even tho each person’s loot is individual to the player, that your system unfairly grants the best loot to whomever hits the final hit, and everyone else gets junk.

For the sake of the community can we have a reply to the thread I linked above please? Thanks.

This is a request to see how the pve side of the kit builds are going. I would love to know the status of kit builds that use FT/EG/Grenades/Bombs/Mines heavily. You can post pvp builds and explain how they might benefit pve but I’m particularly interested in what people have found about the new damage ratios they are using in pve since that was the most broken prior to Jan 28th patch. I also would like to know if some builds have remained broken due to items like cone attacks still missing or explosion radii remaining too small. As someone who has very little time or money, I cannot test these things myself but I do feel our community needs to know. Thanks.

I personally am using a modified version of the rifle/condi build. I modified it to include discharge so that it does more damage, and instead of using the FT I use the bomb kit because there’s more cc and utility in it. For stun release I use the goggles. for healing i use the medkit. Runes are of Grenth (I know not conventional but they work well) This is to keep mobs from getting to me at all costs and have a backup plan if they do manage to. I use Sigil of Ice so that when a mob does get too close I can maximize the time they are in the bleed field from my toolkit and keep them from getting to me longer while I escape. 10/20/0/10/30

daily monthly, but no weekly?

would like to request a weekly, somewhere in the difficulty range between daily and monthly however the only things I would suggest not putting on the weekly would be dodger, combo finisher, fractals, and wvw. I would love however to see a return of things like underwater kill count, killing specific types of enemies like a random one a week, Krait then Risen then Dredge for example. Also, you could have a few of the daily on there but with higher scores like the gathering, crafting, events. If you do put this in there might i suggest you give slightly better rewards. I would also suggest a event variety as a type of achievement in the weekly, that way people can’t just stay in Orr all day and farm the defend runs. This would help with two things, karma gathering, more open world participation then a single daily across an entire account would create, and laurel gathering so people can more easily achieve their goals for their alts.

I would also like to request that the daily and just the daily be changes so that it’s no longer account wide but per character.

You would think that after all the flaming that the devs have gotten for not having Power, Precision and Condition gear or better yet, Precision, Condition, and Condition Duration gear available in Ascended gear that they would pull their heads out and implement it this patch. Seriously I DO NOT want toughness on my gear. I’m sorry, I’m not some newbie that needs toughness to survive.

So pull your heads out and give us some gear that is at least comparable to that of Berserkers gear. Honestly condition builds are already subpar to raw crit damage and you screwed them again.

For any of you out there that have run full condition damage I encourage you to try going full Bersekers, you’ll honestly want to cry when you see how large the damage gap is already. Also use Ruby Orbs in to be cheap instead of the Divinity runes you’ll still be better than your condition build.

Completely agree. They finally set the condi damage on engis close to what it was at launch but it’s still nothing like the berserker burst damage in the slightest. This needs some serious work, it should be equal initial damage across all characters.

Daily/Monthly Laurel system not alt friendly

I agree with the character bound aspects of making the daily available per character, however it would be extremely self defeating if we couldn’t transfer the laurels between characters like we do gold. They already did that with karma and it made it harder to get gear for alts they have a problem with the economy right now TP specifically the items to make exotics. So we really need a daily that’s character only and then we need the currencies that weren’t transferable before to become transferable so that altaholics can gear their alts.

10 stats? l2math. This is just the beginning as every piece of armor and accessory and weapons will be ascended eventually.

Yeah, it’s the beginning. There will be many more ways to aquire ascended gear.

Deployable Turrets Still Broke after 155 days

there’s still issues with what they said they fixed, cone attacks still miss tho now it’s 40% of the time rather then 60% like it was, discharge still flies all over the place unless you only use certain kits or gadgets missing, the AOE’s from kit refinement are completely useless (they all need to be combo fields please), and the animations for many of our abilities slow our abilities and affect our damage output still even with the increase. (jumpshot, pistol shots)
