Yeah its so exciting going weeks and only getting blues and greens.
Oh, classic. Using hyperbole to force your point across.
I get a Rare every 2~3 days, and I spend most of my time screwing around in Caledon Forest. If you aren’t, you’re probably not really trying. o_O
Classic, making the assumption that everyone in a biased RNG system has the exact same experience. It’s been months since I’ve seen a Rare. And we might call it RNG but trust me, mathematically there’s nothing random about it, it’s not a truly random system when some get rares every interval and some get nothing for months.
But even if it were unbiased, there’s a point that’s reached when progression shouldn’t take 16 months to complete in a process (gaming) that’s supposed to be about enjoyment and fun.
What gets me is that RNG has been used by other older game designers looooong looooong ago. So why is it in a game that’s supposed to be the evolution of MMO gaming entirely. It’s sortof like DR. Why is this game using tried and tested and failed systems of monetization and gameplay progression? Does anyone else notice these things? Why is this title like this if it’s been designed by gamers who should know this history because they lived it collectively at one time or another? Even the elephant in the room had to adopt a currency system to allow for progression in a much more definite way.
The thing I don’t understand is why they didn’t add T6 mats to the laurel or karma vendors outright, why have two more RNG systems in an already RNG saturated game.
good luck trying to get them to return gold farming (legit) in the open world because we doubt very much they will. Keeping DR and keeping the loot ratios so low and making dungeons the only place that drops loot is better for their gem-gold economy.
There’s many a post on this problem and the loot issues in general some of them 1400 posts long I wouldn’t expect a change anytime soon.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
Wonder if it’s easier to win the lottery or get struck by lightning then to get a T6 powerful blood or a Rare off of a veteran/champion
what we need is for kits to be a F7-F9 system.
This just baffles me. AAA titles should not have worthless zones in them. What in the world is happening with the management of this game?? seriously It’s scary!
there are tons of cosmetics needed for RPers big time, they are missing sooooo many cosmetics it’s not even funny.
music instruments and a song system like LOTRO
housing system like Rift with store bought items to decorate (they would have made such a killing on this instead of the path they took to force people to buy gems for progression)
mounts that don’t move faster then 33% (motorcycles for one) and underwater faster swimming gear.
it doesn’t seem to work for those of us who seem to have a permaDR on our account. I’ve tried so many times….oh you meant dungeons? I dunno I don’t run those, this game was supposed to be meta DE’s.
Go fight the earth elementals and use an ability that instantly refills the endurance.
I get near them they do the ground channeled attack, I dodge twice while in it, then use my ability that refills my endurance, and I usually get one or two more dodges in before the spell ends. Sometimes I can get four out because the elemental is standing near me when i do the final dodge.
It’s usually the best way. Their punches are really easy to time for me as well when they aren’t doing their channeled ability.
It’s true it is a beautiful game, the machanics for events are second to none, they give you multiple options for leveling and completing events, there is no competition for resource nodes, and crafting (all except for jeweler) were masterfully designed, however there are a ton of issues that make me worry about the future.
it seems all future gear will either use laurels or the mystic toilet or RNG dungeon drops, instead of crafting.
the focus of the game seems to only be about dungeons for both improved gear and for future content like lore events as well as the only means by which a toon can make a living.
the economy is completely shot and now requires that players who were not here on launch day must go to the store and spend real money in order to get gold to gear their mains as well as their alts.
So while I do like their manifesto if they continue down this road I’m afraid they’ll lose more players then they’ll keep.
asked that question myself multiple times.
if they truly want me to believe that it’s not that much better equipment then make the gear have exotic stats but with agony resistance. Why add higher stats to ascended at all? It makes it a higher tier and causes people to want to do only 1 thing in the game to gain the gear, dungeons, which causes all kinds of discrimination issues we’ve seen for years in other titles. People wanna do speed runs exclusively and explore runs exclusively.
The picture below is the key reason why there’s a problem with ascended gear. It would be far easier to reduce the stats on ascended gear then to add a higher tier gearset that’s supposedly just for dungeons for future dungeon only content.
let’s be honest about it.
Three reasons not to have dungeons in a game that’s supposed to be about DE metas.
gear elitism
level elitism
required knowledge about every boss fight or encounter prior to running the dungeon the first time.
Seems to me it would make things alot better for this title if they’d just return entirely to their manifesto and be done with it.
kinda sad part is that gw1 had named weapons from bosses, and here in Gw2 there is the opportunity to have both armor and weapons drop, plus other cool stuff, but it’s not happening. Maybe in an expansion, I can hope.
What makes me crazy is quest champion bosses like the giant at Nageling drop absolutely nothing. Not even nose pickings. No wonder nobody is there most of the time.
Well I for one am not waiting for an expansion, they can have their bugs and their horrible data collection software I gave them 5.5 months to get it together I’m not hanging around like I did for other games, I’m moving on.
One of the major reasons I’m moving on is they have no idea how to treat their customers. telling me that what I see with my own eyes for months is both “perceived” and an “X-file conspiracy” is not the professional way to handle something that’s been happening to your players since November with both screenshot and video proof of the matter as well as multiple pages filled with documented data and witness testimony.
Sometimes i think anet is messing with me in AC with chests. Open one up, get a rare, only to see it was ghost tonic!
I get nothing but putrid piles all the time….nothing else. “I’m like oooo gold, ahhh crap.”
Noooo stoooop.. when u see someone downed/on the wall you don’t have time to target them you just unload in approximate location. That does wonders. And your real target is still saved.
You do realize that all normal target attacks will actually target the enemy for you once you start using the skill right? It’s part of the problem with the medkit right now it even happens on that one even without an actually attack.
I named my Thief Barbarella after the movie of the same name I know I’m showing my age but meh.
Here’s an interesting passage in a discussion with Arenanet’s economist, John Smith:
http://lopezirl.com/2013/02/08/the-economics-of-video-games/
“Inflation controls could create a more sound economy in the long run, but they would also go against the primary purpose of a video game — fun. To limit the amount of money obtainable in Guild Wars 2, strict inflation controls would have to diminish the volume of rewards players can seek out. Just imagine an MMORPG in which enemies rarely drop valuable items and don’t drop money or “vendor trash” — useless items that can be sold to non-playable characters (NPCs). Players would — very reasonably — get fed up and quit as the experience fails to be quantifiably worthwhile.”
Isn’t this what’s happening already?
Definitely looks like it to me. I’m sorry but there’s something wrong when the devs don’t seem to see anything wrong with this happening and it is happening it’s not a perception. The environment isn’t so beautiful that the players aren’t paying attention to what’s dropping off mobs in a 30 min time period.
Have a feeling this will remain ignored until what happened to other game titles where DR was stubbornly held onto happens again, mass exodus away from the title because there’s no point in logging in anymore. I’ve only logged in in the past week to try the new daily rewards and to see what changes they’ve made on the engineer. I would have never spent the money to buy this title if I had known the economy would become this bad.

A thought occurs about this situation. What about results from mac client users? Are there any in this thread and if so can you guys post the captures of the results you are receiving because if you are receiving better loot en masse that means there’s a programming error most likely.
Thanks for uploading the videos, these are really the only concrete evidence of loot results that I can think of. Hopefully more people decide to upload, especially those who are having issues.
I’ve started posting my results with screenies.
What’s the deal with people asking total strangers for money? And starting at 2 gold? Seriously? I nearly fell out of my chair, when this random stranger whispered me for 2 gold.
Is the situation so bad that people are begging for money now or are they just lazy?
Kinda flattered though, I look rich…. with the poor man’s legendary, the Fractal GS.
Yep it is just that bad. two seconds looking at the TP at the prices to gear your toon in all exotics with runes will let you know just how bad it is.
So if someone is coming along to help you will chase them away so they don’t spoil your dropchance? This is what would be happening. (Not saying you actually would)
Nope because I’ve killed plenty of vets myself with no help from anyone being around and they still drop absolutely nothing.
I’ve wondered about this too OP, can’t imagine what’s going on in that office over there but one thing’s for sure, they definitely aren’t doing anything about it. Either DR has gotten out of hand (as with many things we get 1 new bug a week in this game) or their data software isn’t showing what it should show them about drops because I have yet to get a drop above a blue since november of last year. And that blue was the only blue I’ve ever received from vets/champs.
The only thing that changed in my playstyle was that I no longer sought out the hidden chests in the world, and that was DUE to them not dropping anything anymore.
The rest is the same for me. Running around killing things in an area, moving on to the next, running thru orr to get to the next gathering node, using strategy to get to the nodes, do the occassional nearby events that popup for karma, doing my dailies to get coins and karma bottles.
Nope nothing different for me. I’ve been playing that way since level 2 and the only reasons I stopped were two things: because prior to this patch it was a second job to get my class the engineer to function properly no matter the build, and because of lack of loot.
(if you’re not an RPer) When you don’t receive rewards anymore what’s the point of playing. the scenery?
That’s okay, it might have gone back to the trinity and the old school dungeon system but at least I know I’ll get rewarded for spending my time on the new game that’s coming out. And they have solo content that gives loot and companions for every class. The only thing I can do at this point, move on, maybe I won’t get disappointed by the new one.

I for one am not. I am not glad they nerfed drops before fractals, I’m not glad they added fractals, and I’m not glad they made a gear treadmill under the pretense that you don’t need ascended gears extra stats to remain competitive. If ascended gear wasn’t to remain competitive make it have exotic level stats, then it would truly be for what we’ve been told it’s for, agony resistance, until they do that it will remain a higher tier and thus better stat gear thus the tip of the treadmill iceberg.
If we weren’t being herded to the gem store then restore loot to the open world by removing DR. (and the permaDR we are suffering)
If we weren’t being herded to playing fractals then restore loot to the open world and remove dungeon requirements from dailies and monthlies. I and many many others like me didn’t come to this title to play WoW all over again. I’ve had 6 years of that, no thanks.
And the argument that those people who claimed there was no end game would have never been placated without fractals is not a sound argument, that type of player would have eventually disappeared from the game because they would have noticed another shiny with a similar treadmill system and run off to play that one. They aren’t doing themselves any favors by trying in a misguided gesture to hold onto the dungeon grind crowd, 8 years of mmo development history attests to that subscription model or not.
Back when exploring the world and doing DE’s actually rewarded you with something other then porous bones and blues.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
does it have an internal cooldown could one switch back and forth between the kits to get it to function almost every time in a pickle of a situation?
I shared your concerns along with every other loud opponent of DR in Nov and I’ve been sharing them ever since. DR must go, it will destroy this title like it has all others, it only serves to harm the players and with recent evidence (whole chests disappearing) it’s only getting worse. This is one of the reasons I came to this title because it was never supposed to be about dungeons, and this is one of the problems dungeon only games face. Discrimination based on class and gear are two others.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
they need to ramp the air time of the projectile speed so it’s closer to what pistol shots are now because technically pistol shots are going the speed of rifle shots atm.
Also, if the do make it a channel spell on the #1 of grenades they should definitely make them explode on impact, it’s unrealistic for grenades to pass thru enemies to explode behind them. In fact there’s a ton of abilities that should be doing just that on the engineer that aren’t.
What this is really about is to debunk the argument some people have put out that those of us truly interested in balance (ie making this class on par with the other adventurer classes) are wrong because it has happened in other titles where explosives were used as the main attack weapon.
Some people and I wont name names decide that this class is perfectly fine the way it is and will argue tooth and nail to keep it gimped one has to wonder what his true goals are, he’s in every thread of mine telling me I want unreasonable requests.
I’ll also mention that it’s very weird to have a ranged rifle that doesn’t have the same range as the grenades you toss. It’s just as odd as the napalm #2 ability on the FT having a longer range then the #1 FT attack and even IT doesn’t explode on impact.

what I dont understand is Regeneration. Since it only stacks in duration, how does +Healing effect regeneration?
if two different players with different healing stats, and with different regen skills cast regen on the same target, what will happen?
also what about passive AoE regens like Water Ele? if multiple Water Eles are standing around each other, whose regen counts?
I agree. If one takes a hard look at all the abilities of the engineer +healing does absolutely nothing for us accept 2 abilities and one of those hardly heals a thing even with maxed healing stats. (the #5 on the EG) the rest are just minor regens and condi removals they are all AOEs and we’re just supposed to accept that engineers the class that’s supposed to think outside the box is okay with that.
All I’ve wanted since everything began with this game is for them to go back to their manifesto.
Where are the open world events with actual rewards (bots are gone restore the loot), where are the new metas across multiple zones (why does it have to be 55+), why is it still an RNG affair to get powerful bloods and gossamer scraps for crafting? Where are the crafting recipes that make ascended gear? (crafters weren’t supposed to be left out in the cold remember, there was supposed to be multiple choices in how you can gear your character). Where is the allocation of office resources to squash the major bugs plaguing three of the classes in their list of 8 many of which have been happening since launch?
I guess what I’m trying to say is where is what we were promised prelaunch and can we have better management when it comes to loot and progression?
I’ve had 2 chests the entire time. and I’ve killed a large number of veterans and champions since this began.
It only drops off regular mobs, and it usually only has masterwork items in it for me. I’ve yet to get a rare off anything anymore in Orr. FG, or in level 55+ zones.
I do like how they made the animation alot more noticeable tho that was nice of them. However they take a while to load and they are still tiny, so we still have the motley crew standing around in the desert looking like someone lost a contact lense.
If they had not made the ascended gear have higher stats I would say that the naysayers are correct but they did. That means it has better stats then the exotic, that means it’s a higher tier.
It’s poor opinion on the part of the naysayers to claim that those stat points won’t give people a particular advantage because even if it were only 5 points of vitality per piece that’s ten pieces which adds up to alot of vitality. It’s called math I do hope people are familiar with that concept of addition before they come on here claiming everything is perfectly fine.
I’ve posted this image before but apparently people need a reminder. This is exactly what’s wrong with ascended gear and people are lying when they are saying these stats don’t effect combat in any way.
Even people who simply do pve exploration or open world events would benefit from these higher scores.
NOW if they left the stats at exotic level but gave them an agony resistance….that’s completely different, they would no longer be higher tier gear to grind for.
OP – if you haven’t been mashing 2 buttons over and over, then you really haven’t played the grenade kit recently or the rifle.
- I love it when a poster claims there’s nothing wrong with the engineer class and that we’re all just “perceiving” that it’s not on par or as elegant as the other class designs, notably our sister adventurer classes.
I’m confused about the point you’re making. Are you saying that the Engineer is too simple? And then are you ending it with saying a ranger is more elegant than an engineer? Really?
The weapons certainly are a little simple in some cases and a little too complex in others.
Okay yes I was a little confusing. Rifle is a terrible setup, they should have never had a netshot in the setup we needed a multishot ability like the longbow and the warrior rifle. Second, all anyone has to do is compare the minor traits in the dps lines of all three adventurer classes to see how rangers and thieves have an elegance which means their dps abilities work together in harmony over multiple abilities and builds as well as multiple weapon types. That’s what I meant by elegance. Clear it up for everyone?
@ Coglin
Explain how someone who claims everything is working perfectly on this class can spend so much time in the forums trying to thwart us “evildoers” from getting the devs to realize just how this class if filled with holes in it’s design. If it were working perfectly why hang out all day in the forums go prove us all wrong, go finish the dungeons on the monthly in a pug group, or are you afraid what we’re saying is true which usually leads to someone booting the engineer out of the dungeon group? hmm?
(edited by tigirius.9014)
@Kardiamond
I want engis to be elegant, I want to be able to use more then elixirs to get might stacks, I want boons to appear when we use kits, I want the ability to not have to play the entire keyboard perfectly in every fight, I want the ability to run faster from equiping a gadget and the run speed to be on all the time until combat status, I want this class to be able to do everything as easily as the other classes take for granted. It’s not too much to ask and to state that we shouldn’t be able to and that the current state of the engineer should remain lackluster just because it’s a different style of combat is a straw man argument. Engineers are supposed to fill multiple roles, well I say let us. Give us the options for multiple boons from using what we use, like switching to a kit, or putting on a gadget (and I don’t mean just fury). Let us heal as well as the guardian without thinking twice about it, and I don’t just mean the standard regen but I do mean that our skills should properly scale with +healing on our gear. Let us DPS like crazy and I don’t mean the long fight dps that’s been used as an excuse for leaving this class be or the 100nades which might as well be a bug for all purposes to get it to work 100% of the time, I mean give us the traits to do a setup burst initial hit without it being something they’re probably planning on nerfing sometime soon. I’m saying give us more then 1 ranged attack on the rifle and let the rifle be equal to any other ranged weapon in the game both in distance and damage output of the same type of weapon on other classes. Elegance. It’s not that difficult just takes a little time and effort to setup and it’s going to take more then 2 people to fix the mistakes that have been made over the five months that have occurred since launch.
Jon Peters on Engineer when asked about the class:
- They’re looking at Engineer kits.
- Grenades are fine.
- They’re focusing on bringing things up to viability right now.
Wishy-washy answers, nothing really substantial.
Completely agree. Wishy washy.
Oh and until they can do with grenades what Rift did with the Saboteur and they make the dps traits lines for engis balance out with what thieves and rangers have, this class is far from fine.
I think many many more of our explosives could be used as blast finishers and I’m with you OP what exactly is wrong with engineers being every bit as powerful as a thief or warrior? thieves and warriors don’t seem to complain and they never get nerfed so why not all engineers the ability to do as much sheer damage as those two classes we’re supposed to be just as militant if not more. (and I don’t mean that crappy argument “well we out dps them over time” spsssh I mean up front! burst people burst and don’t say 100nades because it’s so chaotic that it’s practically a bug not an elegantly intentionally designed setup)
Very weird. Yes I love that it’s considered a minor heal for the purposes of using a runeset or food buffs but they definitely need to do something about the way it’s refinement goes. And when did FT get a cleanse? LOL weirder and weirder these class interns are.
My point about this post was really to show that a class with explosives can have tab targeted skills and still be perfectly fine, so there’s absolutely no need to make the #1 or #2 skills on this kit a ground target ability anymore.
And to show that the engineer class is first and foremost an adventurer class and should be treated as such, the grenades themselves don’t need a buff no but the mines and bombs certainly do, and so do our traits. We shouldn’t have to wait until we are at 75% before elixir B goes off or wait until 5 stacks of vulnerability are achieved from possible crit attacks instead we should have multiple choices enemy-@-50%-health buffs that improve our damage as trait choices like both the thief and the ranger have.
Our gear should provide a bit more in the way of boons, like the goggles, they should do might and fury (much like the thief’s steal ability when traited) And we should have multiple abilities that give us might like the thief and ranger does not just elixirs so that we can have a more rounded gameplay. (right now our traits system is not elegant.)
For those who still believe that tab targeting won’t work on an AOE adventurer style class in which explosives are used exclusively without the limitations of travel time and ground targeting mechanics that ultimately make the combat unplayable unless you are tripple jointed. let me bring up another class in another game I played exclusively that did similar damage types and who’s explosions were all AOE explosions complete with thief like damage boosts before attacking.
Rift’s own Saboteur.
I used to take out 3-4 enemies at once because i’d do the abilities that improved damage output (much like the thief does in this title) and then stacked my bombs and blasted them. Most of the time I’d take the enemies out in 1 hit but I had 1 backup bomb to take the enemy out before getting to me if they were still alive.
They balanced that class well in that game and yes some people complained but it worked. This class so needs that kind of love for grenades/bombs/mines. Seriously. (well in PVE at least). Oh and I still had the faster run speed (much like the thief ranger 25%)
I think this living story needs some mouth-to-mouth. LOL
there’s supposedly a fix coming, too bad we can’t have the best fix of all, the complete and total removal of DR, if only they would listen to their players and to gaming history.
This month is supposed to have the ability to choose what our dailies/monthlies will be. hopefully they will have the good sense to have the choice of completing metas/dragon events in place of dungeons/wvw kills. That’s a choice.
Exactly what many of us have been saying for some time now. If you compared them to the thief and ranger traits as I did, you’d notice a larger disparity between the traits (things like gaining a huge bonus up front, then things like Elixir B type benefits and % extra damage to help kill the enemy going off at 50% of the enemies hitpoints instead of 75% of your own) It’s definitely not an adventurer class setup is it.
i’m using a rifle condi/power build with discharge I use the medkit toolkit ramhead rifle turret supply drop I fire off the discharge from the fkeys while firing rifle shots. traited to do some condi damage, bleeding burning
I have elxr S defense and use kit refinement and speedy kits and barrels
10/20/0/10/30
It works well
I use any on heal in slot 6 runes set or grove set and i use sigil of air on gun
(edited by tigirius.9014)
I’d definitely suggest using discharge for some of your toolbelt.
the first image is a joke it’s what i’d love to see our turrets become but know better LOL
this will take a moment or two to load the images
I’d imagined the diver swimming gear to be a backpack so combat could occur without an issue.
none of this stuff would really effect pvp in a negative way, and the parachute and swim gear definitely wouldn’t but would give engis more escape options in pve. It’s what i would have made for myself if i were in game.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
If you left prior to Nov 15th here’s a list of things happening recently.
- DR has become so bad now that entire chests disappear post dragon events and fractals for some
- the newest Ascended jewelry is out and they indeed have much much higher stats then we were previously led to believe
- they added more bags to drop from orrian mobs so T6 mats are a bit easier to collect
- the new content is just a precursor to more next month
- engineers kits have been adjusted slightly to make them more normalized with the other classes.
- apparently necros still are left in the dust so if you aren’t a warrior or thief you’re still not up to par with the only two classes that can 1 shot
- lost shores no longer drops much
I do not miss tab target healing however the aoe only healing doesn’t really work all that well either. I’d suggest adding a wider AOE zone or a better system of affecting players nearby. Thief hardly passes for a healing class sorry.
DR is affecting many people. It’s been going on now for far too long. They can tell us they are investigating all they want but history shows us that DR always causes players to leave the titles no matter how many re-assurances we’re given. The problem is partially their bug squashing methods. This game has gained 2 bugs per month on the engineers side of things and 3 bugs a month on the game and the bugs generally last about 3 weeks before anything’s done about them however, DR is another case entirely. We’re told repeatedly that their software isn’t showing them there’s a problem, well apparently there is a problem with that software because the reality is quite different then what they are telling us and despite insulting posts from the few responses we’re given, we all know that this isn’t our imagination.
They’ve done a few things to lay the foundations to help with the gathering of T6 materials but there’s quite a few things they haven’t done to take care of DR.
I’ve seen it so many times on other forums, people have been saying the same thing, that post Nov 15th that this game became something other then GW2 and I would have to agree. On the PVE side this game was perfect the first month even with all of it’s bugs the functionality the diversity of the builds the loot balance all were perfectly fine, why they felt the need to change those things is something many of us will never understand.
