so, we will have a mandatory password change in february. is this because you had your database hacked or because you didnt have enough tools to guarantee the safety of our passwords?
i change my password whenever i feel it is necessary and i keep it safe. a mandatory password change is both annoying and worrisome. since it is everything safe on my side, this makes believe we might have major security problems on anet’s side.
can we have some oficial info about this topic? or lets just delete this post, infract me and send ninjas to my house?
Check in with the heralds for updates. There are hints of things to come already in the game.
The playable Living Story content will start appearing tomorrow (January 29) at around noon Pacific Time in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. When the events start in Diessa Plateau, you’ll be sent an in-game mail letting you know about it. However, if you’re already logged in when that happens, you need to change maps to receive it.
Why do events always start at Noon when most people are having lunch or at work / in class?
Why not have it later in the day, during peak hours when more people are free?
What makes you think everybody is in the same timezone you are?
They are not. No laurels will be awarded for monthly achievements in january…they begin in feb.
Where did you take this information from? Or you are guessing?
well if u watch some of colins interview last couple weeks u would of heard him said that it will begin next month.
well, i have a monthly window full of % that tells me the oposite abnd we still have 2 days in january to complete it.
well sooner or later you will heard one of the derv comment agian saying monthly laurels will be handed out starting next month. untill than u can either find out yourself if u don’t believe us by finishing your monthly is simple as that.
and since when you can rely on devs comments? they have been spitting on everything that was stated on the last years.
Their entire direction since Nov 15th has been alt unfriendly.
Oh dear me, no. It didn’t start Nov 15th, my friend, it started way before that.
Remember this quote?
http://www.arena.net/blog/live-and-let-dye-kristen-perry-on-the-gw2-dye-system
Storage was always a factor when it came to dye colors in Guild Wars. The new system would cripple most inventories if we required characters to lug all the dyes around. Fear not! The dye hues themselves will be unlockable through various means, both in-game and out. Once you unlock the color, it will be available across your entire account, not just the individual character.
Guess that selling dye kits in the Gem Store was more important than keeping their word. :P
If you read what they wrote on the last couple of years and watch the interviews/presentations on youtube, you will see that they changed almost everything that was promised. thats why they went from a great (GW) to a mediocre (GW2) game. Thats what I call NC$oft effect.
if the monthly awards 10 laurels, you can get 80 laurels a month, which means you can qequip 2 of your alts/month.
It’s 35 Laurels per Amulet, and you’ll get 40/41 Laurels per month (30/31 dailes + 10 for monthly). So every 7-ish months you’ll have enough spare Laurels left over to equip a second toon that month.
How about PvP dailies and monthlies? Those dont reward laurels? (and dont forget february has only 28 days)

.23%? You’re giving up your primary stat, that’s 1003 attribute points, leaving you only your two 698s. (689×2)/(698×2 + 1003)=58.19% That’s quite a lot worse. Of course if you’re only looking offensively, then (698×2)/(1003 + 698)=82.07% plus critical damage. Huge difference between 41.8% 18% and .23%
And wearing mf armor doesn’t increase your skill stat, you’re just as skilled as the rest of us.
You are missing my points here. What Im saying is that using best stats available is completly unnecessary since the game content is incredibly easy. You dont have gearchecks in dungeons/raids (oops we dont have raids) where you NEED extra powerful stats to beat content. This game has no real challenge, so a group with 5 decent players using MF can beat ANY content. I know WoW-boys will whine about doing it 3 minutes faster per run (dunno how you survive without a damage meter addon), but since there is no real challenge in GW2 there is no reason to worry about this. If you worry, well, then dont do PUGs, gather 4 other friends who take the game too seriously and go for AC World record.
All I see here is the good old american problem: “wait, he is getting better stuff than I am and it is not fair that anyone else gets more stuff than I do”.
The thing is, you’re not really get much more out of that extra 100+% magic find. It only affects rare drops from monsters, which is very low, so its still not much at double rate. It’s only worth using when the extra rares are valuable, like lodestones, but just for extra ectos? You’ll make more money/hour just from the extra time you save using normal gear since most of the money is from the chests and end rewards.
If it was actually a “no one should get more stuff than me” thing, then no one would be arguing about this and we’d all go out and buy mf gear. Perhaps you’re projecting your real feelings and that’s why you defend mf gear? Also, I’ve never played WoW. Funny how you just jump to insulting people by accusing them of playing another successful MMO when you run out of things to say and then you don’t even get it right.
And why are we now suddenly assuming it’s grinding AC? First it’s mf users are all magically more skilled, now it’s people running AC and nothing else.I dont really care if people will get or not more fat stuff by using MF gear. There are people who like using it and, placebo or not, I dont see a problem. Game is not about making money/hour, it is about having fun (which I know is not that easy considering all the grind and the lack of content, but this is for another thread). People blame other people’s mf gear for their personal lack of ability to play the game.
And if you never played WoW, this is the reason you dont understand what Im saying and stated Im “insulting people by accusing them of playing another successful MMO”. Im not insulting anyone. This IS the way things work in WoW. To make end game content you MUST use equipment A, build B and rotation C or people dont want you in their group because, well, because the “drops/hour will be worse”. So if you have no idea on what you are talking about, you should just run your fractals instead of whining in forums.
And about the AC thing, dude, you are really short sighted, arent you? This was an ironic example. Dont take things too serious. Neither the text nor the game. And go buy your mf gear instead of whining. A monkey with a mouse can beat any content in this game if you give him enough bananas, which makes all this mf discussion stupid.
OK!
So…..why are you so vehemently defending MF gear so?
Vehemently defending? Im only stating it is ridiculous to be against mf. There is a crusade against mf in a game where challenge is near zero because “you sacrifice some stats”. Just let people use whatever they want. That is what I am vehemently defending.

Sorry to inform you guys, but Anet wants your money.
I also dont understand all that hate agains MF considering any idiot can beat any content in this game (maybe except for people with Parkinson’s doing jumping puzzles). That is one of many other things in this game that makes me feel like in WoW. “Oh your gear is 0,23% worse than what we want for our group, I dont care if you are more skilled than the rest of us”.
Back there when Anet had the project of doing a great game (which unfortunatly didnt happen) we were suposed to have a sidekick system. The same way they take your level down in noob areas, it was expected that you would be able to have your level up if grouped with friends in the harder areas. I dont remember to have seen this officially stated, but Im certain it was discussed. That is gone. Other stuff that we should have and we dont:
- You should be able to get new traits from bosses around the world (ex: kill 5 swordmaster bosses and get a swordmaster trait)
- There should be weapons that change their behavior during night/day (ex: life still during night, life on hit during day)
- Dynamic even system (was replaced by this scripted system we have and is called dynamic events for marketing purposes)
- A great pool of skills to chose from (guess this self explains)
- Potions (this is the only thing Im happy they decided to change)
- Customer support (was replaced by… well, whatever this is, I cant even name it, but they still call it customer support)
- Elite skill “drops” (you should get elite skill scrolls from bosses and maybe vendors, world drops, chests, etc. before they decided to go lazy and keep half a dozen skills/class so the game is easier to balance)
- Decisions that “matter” (your choices concerning your aproach to NPCs – charm, ferocity, dignity – were suposed to affect the game, but that was replaced by a nearly useless system where only some NPCs will be affected by your personality and you probably wont even notice)
I still hope most of those will come on the next few years. Eventhough they dont give me a single reason to believe in this game, I still think/hope it might have a decent future. I still want to see GW2 instead of a brand new generic MMO inspired in GW lore. Not sure if this post will saty for long though, since criticisms about the game have been considered “conspiracy”.
Btw, this info I got from multiple interviews, gameplay videos and screenshots during the development fase (they are probably still there), when I was still hyped and searching for news about GW2 in a daily basis. Back there, I was planning on buying 3 accounts (1 collector and 2 deluxe) and spending around $1200 to build a fansite. Then I needed customer support and, after that, played the beta. Canceled the fansite (because of customer support – I wont support a company that treats customers like kitten) and purchased a single deluxe (because the game was far from what was announced and from what I expected). Nearly 30 real life friends (28 if im not mistaken) bought the game. None plays it anymore. They dont blame me for this, but they will certainly think twice before buying another game indicated by me. C’est la vie.
Nice, now we can grind the grinding content through new ways of grinding.
I do wonder why this thread has been allowed to stay open when the T&Cs state that the words Anet/Devs/Moderators cannot be used in the title for any topic?
This is the case for threads where users use staff/ developer call-outs as a tool to gather attention and try to get their issues solved faster – e.g. “Fix this, ArenaNet!”
So it’s actually not a problem here.Greetings
In other words, if you are pointing one of the many problems the game has, your topic will be deleted. If you say everything is awesome, it is allowed. If you point something that Anet/NC$oft doesnt want people to notice (like this post), it is deleted and infracted and flagged as a “conspiracy post”.
GW2 is a grind since the beggining as any other standard MMO. It is just easier to see that because GW2 lacks content. Fractals are just the cherry on top of the pie. In GW you grinded to try to get a rare skin with good stats. In GW2 you just get your standard tokes to trade for standard stuff. Have been working for WoW for years.
Gw1 was truly unique. It was not an mmo though. This is an mmo. Hence why its most massively annoying
GW was a great game. GW2 is a poorly designed MMO. They took GW lore and made a game for Ben 10/Barbie audience, dumbing down the game, removing the possibility to make builds (you have like 2 dozens of skills to chose from), removing customer support and copying stuff from other mmos. Copying is ok, but they copied everything that was bad and a few things that were good.
You cant use your mesmer to kill stuff on the other side of the wall, you cant use your ranger to use terrain in a smart way… intelligence and creativity are not allowed anymore. You will never see a 55 monk or a permasin build in GW2 because the game does not allow builds. It was designed in a way a 5 years old kid is able to play. The achievement are not real challenges like the titles were. Most “builds” that could be fun are useless. I agree with OP: GW2 has an “anti-fun” design.
Just keep reporting the whole thing will die out soon.
Have you EVER played Guild Wars (the good one, not GW2)? The game is 7+ years old and people still spam the SAME site with the SAME message. I have reported the spam messages literally HUNDREDS of times. Ill keep reporting, but I dont think Anet/NC$oft will give a kitten since the spammers have to buy accounts to spam.
I figure all of us are going to end up with a ton of extra wintersday stuff. The question is, what are you going to do with all of your extra sweaters/socks/hats, your extra stuffing and your account bound cogs, and your two left over frames?
Hoard them, hoping they’ll be of use at some point in the future or worth more on the TP eventually, vendor them, TP what you can now, trash the cogs?
Right now, I personally have no idea.
Sweaters/socks/hats = traded for gifts on NPC
COGs = keeping in some mule character while strongly believing they will be useless forever.
Leftover frames? Ive used all 5 to craft the everlasting tonics.
Considering how easy it is, Id say 80-85% of people who tried finished it.
Some advice on making gold: use Visa or Credit Card. The game is designed to avoid people from make a good amount of gold. I had stacks of ectos in GW. Stacks. GW2 is designed to make you poor so you buy gold from Anet.
Hello, Anet.
I have a question here. If I want to buy gems, I get 33 for 60s.
If I want to sell 33 gems, I get 42s68c.
Thats around 30% cut.
Is there an explanation for that?
I would like an official answer or a link to an official explanation.
I would love to see some of the people posting in here to go into a Las Vegas casino or a carnival booth and complain about how they are being taken advantage of like they are doing to ANet in this thread. You know you are gambling when you spend your money on any chest item in the shop or game. When you gamble, you can lose. If you don’t want to lose, don’t gamble and when you lose, don’t whine about it.
I dont think you get the point here. People DONT WANT to gamble. The thing is that the only way to get the minis is gambling, and that’s what people DONT want. I know it is hard for fanboys to understand some things, but I thought that one was simple to get.
Hi everyone,
The statistics reported on the wiki pages for the Wintersday Mystery Box drop rates are incorrect, due to the method being used for calculating them. Some of our item packages use more than one loot table to determine what you get from opening them. Whenever you open a Wintersday Mystery Box, it randomly drops items selected from 2 tables, each having specific items and their own drop rates.
We’ve seen people mention the low drop rates of Foostivoo from Wintersday Mystery Box and would like to remind people that the primary way to obtain this miniature is from the Mystic Forge, by combining other minis (wiki link).
Thank you.
A couple posts up corrected the error. It would now cost an average of $50, rather then $65. Still pretty ridiculous. Not to even mention that someone with bad luck on the RNG could spend much more than that.
The greed is as sad as it is short sighted.
I think pretty much the entire gem store suffers from overpriced items, which severely limits the appeal. Much revenue is probably lost to this. As the exchange rate between Gems and Gold increases, the value of items in the gem store suffers further. If I want to support the game financially, trading my gems for gold is almost always the best option, which is a shame because a fairly priced cash shop with items worth buying represents a huge, untapped revenue stream.
costed me exactly 50 bucks to get all the pets (exactly 50 boxes, got the last mini on the last box, which was $50 bucks getting 10 money-sink-boxes/800 gems or $62.5 buying them individually).
Hit the unsubscribe button and stop whining. ;/
“So lets be serious. Either you stop spamming me with sales and send me only e-mails regarding ingame stuff (which I will gladly read)”
Did you read this part or only read the title and decided to make an Anet ball licking post?
I have never received sales mails by Anet.
The one Time I filed a support ticket I got a mail from them within 3 hours to say that the issue had been fixed.
Experiences differ I guess
1st support ticked I submited was concerning cash store. I wanted to BUY stuff – character slots more specifically. They took 2 days to anwer. And the answer was a pasted messaged that didnt even address my question with a kitten load of random info. Then they took a few more days to answer again – another useless pasted e-mail. After 12 days, they still werent able to answer my question – or even to read it – and sent me ANOTHER pasted message that AGAIN didnt address my question. At that moment, I gave up. And since launch, Im still waiting for a cusromer support experience that has an acceptable answer time and solves the problem. I had a couple that solved the problem, but both of them took way more than they should.
I don’t get spammed at all. o_0 On a side note though, as someone who has worked in the tech support field. Specifically for Apple, you will not get a lot of cooperation from them with an attitude like that.
I will not get cooperation from them. Period. With or without any kind of attitude.
So, I already own the game. It is linked to my e-mail. So why do you spam me with sales?
I can think of 2 reasons.
1) I might be interested in a 2nd accound. Well, this is true. I had 3 accounts in GW, why not having more than 1 in GW2? I will tell you why: almost everything is bound. Either character bound or account bound. So for what reason would I keep multiples of things? And why would I want to claim multiple rewards? No point on having multiple accounts in a game where every kittening thing is bound.
2) Tell my friends that GW2 is cheaper. Well, all I can think about this is – LOL – why on hell would I bring more friends to this game? I brought more than 20 friends to GW2. Almost 30 – I can remember of 28. NONE of them plays anymore. Why? Because of the high number of unfixed bugs, the crappiest customer support on Earth and the lack of content (nothing else than grind after 1 month – while I dont mind grinding, they do).
So lets be serious. Either you stop spamming me with sales and send me only e-mails regarding ingame stuff (which I will gladly read) or you give me reasons to buy a 2nd account or bring more friends. Meanwhile, Ill bring the rest of them to TSW. 9 of the 28 already bought TSW. The other 19? Well, those are still kitten at me because of GW2 and are waiting for the reaction of the other 9, which has been fabulous so far. Can you imagine a game where you have a GM answering you in less than 5 minutes in game after you open a ticket? A game where the customer support ANSWERS your e-mails instead of copying/pasting stuff – and hold your chairs: after actually READING them? A game where game staff answers forum posts instead of deleting/ignoring and CARE about feedback? I doubt you can.
So, plz, stop spamming me with sales since I already have the game. Send me only e-mails about game events or maybe even cash store items if you want more of my money, but not game sales. At least until you make it worth having a second account.
Welcome to NCsoft games. If you want to know what I think, Id say it will only get worse.
GW1 was an NCsoft game and it was never this bad. They had a cash shop, but it was always straight sales. Any RNG items were obtained for free in-game.
Sadly I doubt the situation here will change unless and until people stop buying those stupid boxes.
I always viewed GW1 as the black sheep of the NCSoft family of games. It had a cash shop but it was straight sales and nothing completely game breaking (outside of I guess the Mercenary Pack, but that was when it was already dying and mostly for people who didn’t want to group).
GW1: Anet > NCsoft
GW2: NCsoft > Anet
Seriously, they put that up on Youtube rather than their own website?
My opinion of their PR department keeps getting worse and worse.
As they use reddit to give explanations about the crap they do. Their PR is not nearly as bad as their customer support (which is probably the crappiest on Earth), but I agree they are getting worse each day.
About the cogs. Well, you can use 50 of them to craft the money sink quagan pet (foostivoo the merry) and you will still have 150 extra. Well, you can craft 3 more quagans and (maybe) put them with a 4th rare pet to try for an exotic in mystical forge. Or save for 2013. I dont know any other use for them other than frame minis and quagan.
Dude, Im sorry. I agree the game has a kitten load of problems. But one of them is that they have already dumbed down the game if compared to GW (that, sir, was a good game).
The snowball fight requires patience, strategy and skill. I have entered it with the purpose of completing the achievements and nothing else (as I did in GW for gamer points). The minigame was actually fun. Took me a while to get used to it, chose my favorite setup and learn the shortcuts, but I had fun doing it.
The jumping puzzle was easy mode if compared to Halloween one. Mad King Tower took me hours of playing. This one took me less than 15 min. MKT was frustrating, I admit that it was even annoying. But the xmas one was just not challenging enough.
Tixx dungeons… well, it was fun on the 1st day. On the 5th just got annoying – way too long and repetitive for the same reward as day 1. But Id say it is great, except for the fact it became too long and more of the same. The map looks awesome, the mini towns are great stuff. I am a critic of GW2, but this, sir, was very well done. Had fun smashing the kitten out of the towns.
The bell thing, well, that was easy but boring. You have 2 hands, sir, with 5 fingers each (I guess). Use 4 of your left hand on 1234 and 4 of your right hand on 6789. If you arent more than 70 years old I think you can do it.
Toypocalipse… well, this one was fun to do 1 time. I wouldnt have the guts to make a 2nd time since rewards completly suck and makes no sense spending all the time it takes to grab such a kittenty reward for the effort it requires. But doing 1 time (2, actually, because on 1st I got a kittenty group and I wasnt sure about what I had to do). was fun. Not OMG!!!!!1!!! fun, but fun enough.
And please dont take this personal, but if you werent able to do ANY of those easily, then, sir, you REALLY need to improve your gaming skills or you should put more effort on what you do.
Considering the GW2 staff statements concerning wintersday, either you will get your hat someday during/after the event by game mail or you will have to purchase from cash store (150 gems for santa hat, 25 gems gor earmuffs). Considering the way the game chose to follow, Id say you wont get free stuff.
In time: they said you only need to talk to Tixx once to get the rewards. So, if you didnt get a hat from tixx bag (and you didnt, because there isnt any), either you will get by mail (like karka chest for the ones afected by the one time epic fail event) or you wont get crap (that would be my guess).
Welcome to NCsoft games. If you want to know what I think, Id say it will only get worse.
Why wont the devs answer this? We know they read this so why not say weather this was intentional. Honestly, they are missing the mark on some things when it comes to holidays.
Because, my friend, they dont give a kitten about you. Or me. Or anyone else other than the bank manager. They seem to have 80% of the staff focused on deleting posts (which will probably happen to this one since it is not saying “oh guys you are wonderful!!!1!!”), 15% focused on kitten people off and 5% doing nice stuff. That is what I call NCsoft effect.
golem took me 45 attempts. sounds like a stealth nerf to me. in addition, we have no word from anet about the issue. for all the others i had an average of 1/6 as posted before. we probably wont have an official word about this since this game has the worst customer support ever, but I strongly believe they drastically changed the drop rate (now it is more like a drop hate).
Seems that we wont have any official word. As usual.
Considering last posts, I believe that either they decreased the drop rate or we are all very unlucky since yesterday.
Hello. Even though I didnt see a mention about it in recent patch notes, I have the impression that the chance for everlasting tonics in mystical forge has drastically decreased. Can we have any official answer on this issue?
Yesterday I made the 4 that were avaiable. My results:
Princess Doll: 4 attempts (1/4)
Toy Soldier: 5 attempts (1/5)
Plush Griffon: 7 attempts (1/7)
Toy Ventari: 8 attempts (1/8)
Average: 1/6
Today I tried the new Toy Golem and only got it in 45th attempt (1/45 – almost 6 times worse than yesterday’s rate).
For the ones thinking in spending gold to craft the tonics, be careful about those “got all 5 in less the 3 attempts” posts, because it is pretty expensive to craft the tonics. Not sure if I was unlucky or if the drop rate drastically decreased, but you should be careful. I decided to craft them after seeing the “got all in less than 3 attempts” and kind of regreted, because it costed almost 30g to craft all 5.
so i had a 1/6 chance overall. 24 attempts to get the 4 tonics.
1/8 for toy ventari
1/7 for plush griffon
1/5 for toy soldier
1/4 for princess doll
Not as good as the 1/3 people reported, but not bad at all.
Right now I feel bad for the guy with the golem tonic, since you dont keep the frames to try extra tonics.
9 tries and nothing so far. lets keep trying.
Ok, got in in my 3rd attempt. 2 peices that are a little tricky:
In the charr town, there is a fence that is “undestructable” in the wall (someone posted the pic). I tried to destroy it in all manners and… it is not needed. But VERY close to it, on the other end of the fence, there is a piece that seems to be inside the stone.
The other one was in human town. There is a “big” house in the upper part, just by a stone rock (on the right if you are looking at the main building). There is also some invisible crap there, other than the house, maybe inside the stone too.
BTW, today is a great day to do solo, much better than yesterday, since the 1st part is way easier (no vet skritts and max you will fight is 2x skritts at once).
Top player is for the person with the highest score. It doesn’t give you anything special. I think you get 4 presents for any score over 500. You also don’t get anything special for a perfect score (600).
Oh, and there are achievements for hitting a certain number of correct notes in the game, so it may have been coincidence that you got it at the same time as the top player award.
1st time i got the 4 gifts i had scored 460. not sure whats the minimum you need, but certainly not 500.
Capitalism vs Communism?? Wtf is this??
Capitalism/Free Market Economy —--> a system of economy
Communism —-—> a type of government
How can people compare this two?
both are production systems.
No, Im not american, No, I dont think capitalism is perfect. But it is certainly much better than having the ommunist party telling me waht I can or cant do, can or cant say and sometimes can or cant think. I dont wanna go to a gulag and I like having food and freedom. Communist “super powers” were built by exploring millions of people by means of violence.
The more I play GW2 the more I’m against capitalism.
Thats what people who cant afford luxury things do in real life. But they still like freedom of speech, having food and other things that you can only have in a capitalist system.
That’s a very biased and ignorant statement that simply isn’t true, but back to topic, i doubt that anybody who actualy has that much gold doesn’t already have a legendary.
Thats what a “communist” who buys stuff developed in a capitalist system (like this game) and have food on his table and freedom of speech would say. Dredges FTW.
And back to the topic, some people might want more than one legendary and, as far as I know, you need 100% completion to make your own legendary, which is obtainable only once per character.
WTF is this Anet? The major prestige items are going to be thrown around and manipulated by the richest farmers and gold buyers just like they were in GW1. You are making the same mistake AGAIN. Major prestige items like legendary weapons should always be soul/account bound. I hope people enjoy the inevitable skyrocket of mat prices.
Sry, mate, but there was never a rich farmer in GW. The rich people were powertraders. Farming is just not profitable.
The more I play GW2 the more I’m against capitalism.

Well that was very nice of Arenanet to do. They didn’t have to, nor were obligated to do, nor was it the right or ethical thing they had to do. Very nice of you Arenanet.
feel free to claim lots of it and destroy in rage.
again, thanks anet for the hat.
