Hotjoin is the True Endgame of PvP in GW2

How does one determine what the “end game” is? That activity which brings you the maximum rewards. In GW2 PvE, endgame was the Domain of Anguish, or the Fissure of Woe and stuff like that because the rewards were truly phenomenal.

I’ve played my share of tPvP, but after hundreds of wins and a whole bunch of tournaments tokens I realize that this is not the true endgame. The true endgame is hotjoin where I can get max glory and rank points.

Thanks to the matchmaking system of tPvP, you always have a 50% chance of winning the same 200 glory boost at the end. So on an average you net just 100 glory bonus per match, which is…pretty pathetic I’m sure you’ll agree.

In hotjoin on the other hand, I can consistently get 200+ per match and often pass 300. It seems to me that hotjoin is the true endgame of GW2 PvP.

Which is why I find it so absurd that there are some people who think that it’s all about tPvP. In my opinion, all builds, strategies etc should only revolve around hotjoin since it’s the real end game and nets you the most rewards.

Am I missing something here?

Yes I agree with you, although I think they put a glory cap on hotjoins at 400 because I got 415 glory a match but only gave me 400 (no glory booster either). Pretty much after 100 tpvp games you already have all the gear from the chests, although I think the chest drops gear from your rank as well. But it is faster to get glory via hotjoins because its an instant match, zero waiting and all you do is join the same team as the high ranked farming glory people join and follow zerg around. You’ll recognize it when you see several people with up to 300 glory on a team even if they lost, and they are constantly on the same team.

Also another thing tournament rewards don’t get counted to your pvp titles, so its even more incentive to do hotjoins rather than tournaments.

In tpvp if you care about leaderboard rank, just get to a spot that you like and don’t play anymore because you’ll be that leaderboard rank forever just like other people.

I’ve played over 700 tpvps and there are just too many games with a bunch of noobs on my team. Today these games occured 3 times in a row was when I started with rank 600 on the leaderboards.

They were clearly outclassed in these matches and were not smurfs. I’ve seen them trying to res dead people and capping points with 3 other people on it.

Matchmaking needs to have a limit on the MMR difference that a match can have. I am sure this is causing more people to quit PvP than the alternative of waiting longer for a match.

And if it is averaging MMR then Glicko is highly flawed.

Besides the 2nd screenshot, you also faced two premades in screenshots 1 and 3.

Screenshot 2 is a premade as well, krito doesn’t solo que, although I don’t recognize any of the people hes playing with.

Forget Esports- Matchmaking is still awful.

Chances of a rank 10 knowing where to be at and how to contribute 10%. Chances of a rank 40 knowing where they should be at and how to contribute 90%.

When your rank 40 you can predict movements, but when your rank 10 your pretty much doing whatever because you haven’t experienced enough games.

When a job looks at your record the person with 5 years of experience with no college degree (rank 40) will get the job over someone with a college degree and zero experience (rank 10), thing is the experienced guy has been playing enough to know what to do, the inexperienced guy does too much thinking, instead of knowing what to do.

Another thing, not everyone has a second account, so there is only a fraction of a chance that the low rank guy is actually a high rank on another account. If everyone had a second account there would be no complaining about MMR.

Theres no such thing as tank in GW2, its all about avoiding damage and dodgerolls.

But, I never tried this dungeon but CM is pretty mean as well, one thing is true though, Anet likes to put stuff there that if you knew about it, it will be a lot easier, as in CM storymode you have a boss that has a ton of hp and hits hard (well pretty much all bosses) and to avoid him you stand on the stairs and because hes too short none of his attacks will land on you. But if you did melee him, you wouldn’t last more than 10 seconds without good dodgerolling and kiting.

The easiest dungeon is FoTM and you get ascended gear from it as well, the trash mobs don’t hit like trucks or have truckloads of hp unlike the regular dungeons. I don’t think FoTM is considered a dungeon though because there is no story to it.

But just saying these normal dungeons are just crazy, like in CM p1 you’ll come to a point where theres a boss and like 10 archers up top, time you get to archers you die, meleeing the boss you die, hide underneath the archers (they don’t move) and autoattack boss that cant hit you, is only way to defeat him, no skill involved at all, just silly mechanics, theres a lot of stuff like this in other dungeons as well.

Yup I get yelled at for watching videos, you don’t see many cutscenes so I like to enjoy them but its sure unenjoyable everytime one happens if you don’t skip you will get kitten chewed out.

Also one thing I noticed is that in most of these dungeons is some crazy super boss and the only way to kill them is by glitches. Like in CM one boss hits like a truck and has truck like health and only way to kill him is stand on stairs and because hes too short to hit you, he wont do any damage but you have to spam autoattack on him for like 10 mins just to kill him. Also in CM you have a bunch of archers shooting you so you go underneath something and hide behind something, but you can hit the boss but he cant hit you type of deal because the archers do crazy damage and have too much hp to even kill, the boss is another 10 mins of spamming.

All I see is so many bugs that one must know and if your new to the dungeon and don’t know all the bugs you will die a lot, it doesn’t matter if your really good at pvp and have lots of skill, these fights are bug fights because they are designed to hit so hard and have so much hp you have to use bugs to win.

The only dungeon that felt normal to me is FoTM… if you even consider that a dungeon because the trash mobs in there, have normal healthbar and do normal attacks compared to trash mobs in CM and other dungeons I been in.

Forget Esports- Matchmaking is still awful.

4 things I hate
1. instant que (prefer it to be within 10-30 seconds)
2. 4v5 games
3. low ranks
4. going against high ranked premades (as you saw in a twitch video like 2 days ago, team sleepy r40s DESTROYED super pug team aka solo q team (rank 50s, best players in GW2 pvp). If the best players play together they still cant be a premade and team Sleepy proven it.

They should make it so when you que, you goto a queing zone, and when a team is formed it gives you 10 second heads up that its ready to put you in a match (none of this instant ready to go match), so in that time you can look around and make sure all 5 of you are there, and if someone isn’t there it gives you a chance to disband the group before you get into a stupid 4v5 game. Also make it show peoples level by there pvp level, so if you got some low rank in your solo q, you can disband or kick him out of your que.

I think everyone can agree that is in tier 1. No one likes being against or on a stacked server. I actually have enjoyed wvw the last 2 weeks more than I have the past few months that JQ has been on top because it has made the fighting intense. During most time zones now. I just want to see all 3 servers balanced and healthy competing with each other.

In other news yea we used those omegas to crack garrison a few times then again on hills. :P we did it honestly for the lulz. Plus sadly we had to actually get inside a keep to fight us because every time we would fight them in the field they would run come on sor I thought you guys love field fighting.

Come May 28th the days after that will be nothing but Jade Quarry wxp farming all yall. You better pray they add some more content to the living story after May 28th, because the gates of hell will open on you guys if there is no additional Living Story content after May 28th.

No theres plenty solo queing, the reason why your facing those 40s teams is because they are in the same area as you on the leaderboards. I have a bunch of friends in the 80%-500 range that all they do is premade all day long, and when I group with them, most of time we lose against solo q but win against the 40s and 50s premade, I know its dumb but we seem to do better against people that are predictable, and solo q is very unpredictable.

However if your smart, you would friend ostrich eggs, see when hes in hearts of mist, when he is there, solo q and keep an eye on your roster, if all 5 people show and hes not on it, disband and reque.

Same goes with other people that solo q a lot, find out whose good, friend them and try and solo q when they solo q. Small chance it might not work because they could be in a premade, but I’ve played a game with ostrich eggs at 88% before.

If it makes you WvW feel any better, the PvP leaderboards is broke as well. Some people that win a few games and never PvP again are ranked in top 100.

As for WvW I feel the winner should advance to the next tier, the loser goes down a tier and whoever stayed in the middle stays in the tier.

I’m from Jade Quarry and that will make us focus harder on WvW and staying in T1, right now we have been a little relaxed lately because Living Story, and in Southsun you can make a lot of money and its a really fun zone.

But if they make a better WvW ranking system and not do jack squat to PvP ranking system, ima be pretty kitten .

The PvP community needs it more than the WvW, the WvW just needs to move servers every week.

I agree they need to fix the locker, you can tell whats available by right clicking and if preview comes up its available, and half the cultural armor is not previewable so its not available.

Its also missing armor sets from PvE, like the masquerade armor as well.

What I have seen from IRON, they are able to cover 2-3 maps with 20-25 people. I played at lunch the other day in JQ BL. We had out-maned buff. As soon as our keep got hit from a large force of 25+, IRON ported in and defended. The enemy was wiped, they ported to another map and we had out-manned buff again. They really don’t have that many. They are super organized and have fast reaction time. I think the other servers just need to adapt to their play style. Defend what you have and take stuff in other maps that is not defended.

The old days of taking everything on a map then moving to another map isn’t going to work with IRON.

I agree, IRON does short work of zergs and they play differently than what us in the NA play WvW like. They play more of a guild style than a Zerg v Zerg style.

And its already been proven EU is better than NA players in terms of PvP.

As for Jade Quarry, we are doing the living story, we are better than both BG and SoR because we are 2nd to only Anvil Rock in the PvP leaderboards as well as being in T1 WvW. We are also a dominating server in the PvE factor as well.

Jade Quarry is a T1 server in all aspects, you guys should respect Jade Quarry. Its #1 NA server overall.

Blaming having 2 thieves as "The Reason"

I just came out of a tourny game where we gave up majority of map buffs to the enemy and lost. My party immediately blamed our loss on our comp having 2 thieves. I asked why, they said " i don’t know but its usually the reason" .

You just said it, “gave up majority of map buffs to enemy”, you have 2 thieves the best at roaming and maneuvering around that map, but they didn’t do there jobs and get the buffs.

Do you expect the bunker to go and leave his point to get the buff???

As for transfers to BG, the server full, so its impossible to recruit more guilds, unless you pay your PvE’ers gold to leave as well lol.

Really needs to be a abandon match penalty of some kind. Someone either afks or just quits almost every match… if not on my team, then the other. Sux either way. Would be funny if the players with history of afking or abandoning were just matched against each other!! lol

Yeah, I think if they showed on the leaderboards the disconnects, it would be very affective at getting people to not leave games, because to me having a lot of disconnects makes you look real bad.

The Daily Captures was a terrible idea, I would always be the first one to reach our first point but I would always have at least 2 or 3 other on point needlessly just so they could get a kitten daily category.

Anet needs to start awarding much more glory for winning the match and much less for getting tons of points because you ran around smacking people a few times and jumping on cap points instead of defending.

Yeah I agree with you about more glory on winning map, as for hotjoins, it doesn’t affect your leaderboard ranking if you lose, its just a glory farm really.

But 1 thing GW1 did right and 1 thing GW2 did wrong was, give rank points to (deer, dolyak, etc) in hotjoin games, in GW1 you couldn’t rank up doing hotjoins, only in tournaments could you rank up.

Hence why people say to other people that are high ranking in PvP “no life hotjoin hero”, because if you see a avenger that’s rank 30 or close with the title, compared to a rank 36 or 37 with the title, its because tournaments rewards don’t give you points towards the title.

But don’t be surprised if you see someone rank 60+ that’s not even on the leaderboards, hes just a hotjoin hero.

15th May PvP daily reward

Well I think that pve daily crab toss champion is too hard, because you have 1/8 chance everytime you play, and often times someone really good at it will be there all those games making it impossible.

But you don’t see them making PvE dailies easier, matter fact you use to have to kill like 20 things now they made it harder by 13 different things and 40 things.

But you know how it is, PvE rules over PvP, they have to make it so PvE takes a lot of time for PvP’ers and PvP dailies are obtainable very quickly, kill 5 people cap 3 caps, rez someone for top stat, win the game, then leave find a game that’s almost over, join the winning team, leave find another game that’s almost over join the winning team and leave, done. Back to PvE.

It takes longer to do a PvE fotm daily, than it takes to do the entire PvP daily.

I thought the patch two weeks ago was actually pretty good. Balance is in a decent place (unless you’re a warrior or a necro) and I wasn’t expecting any changes yet because we need to actually see how this rather stable~ish balance shakes up over the month. We just had a sledgehammer balancing, don’t think we need another just yet.

I’m sick of this balance every patch they do, they spend so much time balancing that they forget to do other pvp structural stuff like new game modes, better leaderboards, better SM, new maps, new rewards, REAL tournaments.

Yet they waste all there time on stuff like ele ride the lightning, “lets nerf it like this” “ok next patch lets spend a month thinking about how we should nerf it again” “ok now that we thought about it for a month lets nerf it again” “ok its still not were I want it to be so lets think about how we should nerf it for another month”.

Less time on balancing, more time on actual pvp developments like I stated above.

Because fact is, you aint gonna get esports with a perfectly balanced boring game, but with an exciting game modestly balanced you will create hype because its EXCITING.

I’m pretty sure ele and thief can be interrupted, I don’t play guardian and I don’t play ranger but I assume just because you got interrupted doesn’t mean the pet is interrupted as well.

It happens a lot, sometimes even in minute 0. Someone says “Oh, premade X, bye”. 5 vs 4, then somebody else leaves, 5 vs 3 , one time i managed to get into a 5 vs 1 game xD .

I’ve been in more than enough 1v5 games. If you look at chat it was 4v5 then it escalated quickly to 1v5 with plenty of time left, and the score wasn’t 200 pts ahead like that when it was 4v5, but regardless a man down makes it much much more difficult to win.

Normally it starts with 4v5 because 1 guy never showed, then it gets worse from there.

But I know some games I see major lagspike and someone or two will dc, so there is a issue with the server side as well. Unless there is one lagger, creating so much lag it dc’s people with him, I remember some starcraft games the title would be must have good connection because the lag would affect others.

With this trap. Defending bay in the borderlands is impossible for a low pop server against a high pop server. Go figure

You don’t use anti stealth for defense on a keep, you use anti supply so they cant build siege to knockdown your doors. Anti stealth is really good for after you take a keep and doing a run around to make sure no mesmers are inside.

Anti-stealth traps are underpowered.

They have anti stealth traps to counter thiefs sneaking in your zerg and using anti supply trap on your zerg.

All engies F1-F4 skills are interrupted, if not by stun then by daze because I see it happen.

I don’t think Mesmer skills are interruptable, and they shouldn’t be because just because your dazed doesn’t mean your clones are dazed with you.

I never expected WvW to get traps, this patch isn’t WvW patch, yet WvW got something and PvP got nothing.

The only thing I expected from this patch was new living story.

But there was much more too it, and yet PvP gets nothing. WvW doesn’t even have to hype up things and they get stuff yet for PvP you have to get 1000 confirmations from the developers to get 1 thing, which is sad.

The difference between WvW and PvP is, on WvW threads they show matchups and hype up the matches each week and give progress information. On the PvP threads theres no hype for any official tournament ( because you cant view them in game), theres no hype about leaderboards (because too unstable, people bouncing from 75% to 300s and people not even playing on them), just people bickering about how there is nothing to get hyped up about, because there isn’t ANYTHING to be hyped up about in PvP which is something they need to change.

Tip, if someone blinds you, press 1 a bunch of times to get rid of blindness before you go for the knockdown downed skill. Doesn’t work against d/p thieves.

Yeah man, don’t ya know that the only way for a PvP’er to get ascended earrings is through laurels, because you don’t get guild commodations from winning PvP.

And some PvP’ers want to do the WvW thing so they saving up there laurels.

Its not like you could spend glory and get this kind of stuff, or spend glory to get commodations or spend glory to get laurels, you only get them through dailies!

They didn’t change very much anywhere except for the living world event, some new WvW content, and a few bug fixes here and there.

Yeah, I don’t know if you know this, but theres PvE, which they added living world event like you said, WvW which added traps which is completely new (and in my book this adds more strategy because it strips 5 supplies from 20 people which can be a big deal when a zerg got all its supplies stripped and cant bring up the rams.), and PvP which got nothing. PvE and WvW got something, PvP didn’t. All PvP got was a “file load PvP daily, click on undo button on PvP daily”, PvP dailies are now what they were before the last patch.

All they did to PvP these last 2 weeks was click on an undo button, while WvW and PvE did constructive updates.

Oh and the PvP developers aren’t just out there for the money, if they were, they wouldn’t even do SOTG videos. I just don’t have a clue whats up with the PvP development team.

I just see a lot of blaming, like “I just do professions, I’m not in charge of making new PvP modes or tournaments or adding in all the armor into PvP or special armor in PvP or PvP maps, or leaderboards, all I do is professions so you complain to them”

From my viewpoint of PvP, professions are fine, they just need to work on the structure a lot more. I’m sick of listening in on SOTG and all they do is talk about professions all day long.

ZERO updates for PvP. Still no GvG, still no monthly tournaments, still no actual tournaments, zero new maps, zero new voice commentary, zero no game modes.

WvW has traps now, which is TOTALLY new type of thing, and PvE has updated the stoy and lots of things to Southsun Cave, more guild treks.

Any thoughts on ZERO PvP updates? And if you think them changing PvP daily back to what is an update, your wrong because that’s more of a UNDO and opposite of update.

My thoughts are, EXPECTED, there is so much you can do, so much you can bring to the PvP in GW2, like new maps, new modes, better rewards for glory, but since I started playing back in February, I learned that the PvP developer community doesn’t even care that much, they spend too much time thinking, instead of spending time on actually getting stuff DONE, actually getting UPDATES, actually making PvP more enjoyable, and finally actually making PvP ESPORTS.

I pretty much knew that we wouldn’t be getting any updates for PvP, but WvW got traps, I totally did not expect that and that’s a outstanding update for WvW. All I know is if your getting bad customer support and not satisfied with you got, it does you no good to just say nothing, so here I am making it noted that I’m displeased that PvP had no outstanding updates.

All I see in the PvP communities is bugs, like the trebuchet in Khylo, it still kicks me out while I’m using it and takes like 5 seconds to use it again, while in WvW trebuchets were done right and I’ve never got kicked out of the trebuchet. Cannons also are still bugged, and still kicks you out every now and then, but in WvW its DONE RIGHT. But those aren’t the updates I’m looking for, I’ve been using the broken treb and cannons for MONTHS, I’m looking for new PvP modes, better tournaments, new maps, better rewards, yet they cant even do this, all I get this month is a UNDO button the PvP daily, how sad is that.

All I gotta say is I was around rank 800, and I did solo q, and two rank 1’s are considered in the 800s on the leaderboards as well. I wrote a massive list, but I decided not to submit it, because it included a lot of anet pvp structive developer hate and how they are worthless compared to the profession balance developers, but anyways heres a screenshot of a rank 800 solo q matchmaking.

We’ll see an increase in solo-q. Team queue will be ‘empty’ unless there’s a solid reward structure implemented.

Agreed, but knowing ANET the solo-q people will have a better reward…. Just look at what ANET thought of two team tourney giving better reward than 8 team tourney.

Right now my biggest complaint are the tournaments aren’t competitive enough, because its two teams and then you que again rather than keep going till you lose. Also the rewards are just terrible, not sure about you but I have 250 chests saved up because I have everything in those chests, I have over a hundred thousand excess glory as well. The only thing I look forward to is getting to the next tier in rank and bigger bags. Not sure where you stand, but if your in the 70%- 400 that’s mostly ranks 30s-high 40s.

You cant expect to play against newbs all the way to the leaderboards do you?

40s is the norm right now if you been playing PvP since GW2 came out, if your not near rank 40 your behind, but don’t worry I see low ranked people hang out with the high rank 50s.

You know that guy Stunningstyles, he’s somewhere in the 30s but he’s ranked 72 on the leaderboards so rank doesn’t have much meaning. I don’t know him personally, but when I saw his teams a few times, I’d bet he solo que’s every now and then and guardian is one of the best classes to solo que.

Ok well I take it back GW2 isn’t like every other MMORPG because there are no raids, and no raid gear.

However GW2 has WvW. Pretty much it.

I would like more incentive pvp wise other than farm glory and get gear, which some gear in pve isn’t obtainable in PvP. Like this armor set http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Masquerade_armor

This game isn’t esports, nor does it hold official monthly tournaments like Guild Wars.

This is a MMORPG, this is Guild Wars 2… Most MMORPGS aren’t pvp heavy. Guild Wars 2 is no different than the rest of the MMORPGs out there. Its just the newest thing out right now.

The nice thing about hgh is when there is a heavy bunker guardian in clocktower, you can stand on the window and just dps him down easily.

No that’s too harsh, I can say for myself, I unexpected dc’ed yesterday, sometimes your internet just goes kaput out of nowhere.

How would you feel having a perfectly good internet connection just decide to go out, and you dc’ed from a game and now you cant even play GW2 for a week?

They just need to show a record of people leaving or dc’ing so other people know how poor losers they are or how bad there internet is. If you see someone with 500 wins 400 losses and 100 disconnections, you can tell they leave games compared to someone with 500 wins 400 losses and 3 disconnections.

They should also make disconnections/leaves count as double loss, so instead of losing 100 leaderboard ranks you lose 200 and instead of going down 3% you go down 6%. Because if you don’t have a good internet, that makes you dc 100 times out of 900 games you shouldn’t be playing tpvp.

Also I do agree that 4v5 in solo que 50% of the time is some bullkitten but sometimes people really are disconnected but 50% of the time come’on now thats not normal.

Hopefully for more than a week, but we all know after this week someone will goto T2 and someone from T2 will goto T1, we all know who I’m talking about.

But on the bright side IRON will get a taste of NA T1.

We could only hope that in WvW the NA is better than the EU because EU STOMPED NA in tpvp, but they weren’t from IRON.

I would like a precision toughness vitality amulet.

I only prefer precision over power because weapon proc’s more you crit, not how much damage you can do.

yeah Mesmer downed state 2 is pretty tricky, you gotta use it fast against thieves with a common sense. I think its fine the way it is, all classes are on a even foot when talking about downed state.

Engineer downed state #3 is my favorite one.

Also if you could pick where you moved to, you would be basically kittenting on thieves downed state 2 and 3 at same time, because Mesmer downed state 2 does basically that except you don’t chose where you get ported too.

Yes it sucks, but theres a counter to pretty much every downed state or a trick, like thief shadowstepping to your new location while in the finisher. Or people blinding engineer downed 2. Only downed state that will take a bit is ele downed #2, but I don’t see that as a huge difference. Because other classes can help in a fight by interrupting while the ele downed 2 does nothing but move, same with other classes downed 2.

Its all fair, this is one of the things they actually did right.

All good brother, EMP aka RE is having the same success you are having and a lot of people are hating on JQ. The only difference between you and rawbrah is you moved to a #2 T1 server and got it to #1. Rawbrah he brought a T3 server all way up to T2 and dominating T2 soon enough he will be in T1 and there will be lots of drama especially if RE owns our JQ NA guilds.

I’m pretty excited, because the only reason that I can think of why Rawbrah left JQ and brought a lot of EMP BEST commanders/ and players with him is because he got tired of living in FOO’s shadow.

All I have to say is SoR needs to goto T2 because they cant win anything anymore, they cant even place 2nd either, Dragonband needs to come to T1 because they are clearly DOMINATING T2, none of those servers even COMPARE to Dragonbrand because its a T1 fighting type server now.

We need to start this all out war FOO vs RISE vs RE, see whose guild carries the server to victory. WE need to settle this whose the best once and for all, just screw the wvw rankings, Dragonband should be moved to T1 and SoR moved to T2.

SoR has been consecutively been placing 3rd 60-70k away, while Dragonbrand is consecutively beating up servers by 60-110k. You tell me who moves up and who moves down.

Koreans make games esports, and this game isn’t even in korea.

How did starcraft become esports? Major tournaments in korea.

How did GW1 become such a huge hit? Koreans were playing it and dominating Europe and America in pvp.

When people think of esport gaming conventions, where thousands will goto to watch people play esport games, they don’t think of America, they don’t think of Europe, they think of asia and specifically korea.
