PU mesmers aren’t even using staff, so i don’t really know where your problem with Phase Retreat is. Just remember that giving it a cast time is going to remove a LOT of it’s utility and might make staff unusable for a lot of build, causing even more PU mesmers to pop up.

DE doesn’t need a cd, it’s gated by endurance, which even took a hit with the Vigor nerf. Double dodging to burst also takes way too much time and can’t even be done from stealth since the illusions are visible.

Why an internal cd? Because every other on dodge skill has one.

Yes it would nerf the staff, but why does 1 class deserve to have a 10s cd (or less) teleport? That is basically a stun breaker vs melee classes.

Effective HP is linear on the player toughness. If you don’t understand what Effective HP is, you shouldn’t be doing any kind of theorycrafting.

Your made up equation does not translate real effect of thoughness over dmg mitigation. You can’t just add up thoughness because it is not linear. If you don’t understand basic math that is not my problem.

Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)

For example:
weapon strength as 1000
power as 2000
skill coef as 1

when armor 2000 -> dmg taken 1000
when armor 2100 -> dmg taken 952.38
when armor 3000 -> dmg taken 666.66
when armor 3100 -> dmg taken 645

When you have 2000 and add 100 armor, those 100 armor reduced the dmg by an additional 48.

When you have 3000 and add 100 armor, those 100 extra armor reduced the dmg by only an additional 22.

It is not linear.

Considering skill dmg coefficient, power and weapon strenght fixed the dmg formular is:

dmg(armor) = constant /armor
That is a f(x)= constant/x function

The derivative is = -constant/(x^2)

The derivative value is the impact that each 1 extra point of armor will affect the dmg mitigation. If you still did not understand, I suggest you go watch some pre calculus video on youtube.

EHP is a linear function of player toughness, all other stats staying the same. This isn’t a diminishing returns relation, it’s linear. EHP = HP * (equipment armor + toughness). This is the definition of a linear relation.

Every point of toughness increases your EHP by your HP value. No matter if you have 0 or 10000 toughness.

The dmg formula is not linear with armor. Your made up function has no value lol.

damage = Weapon strength * Power * Skill coefficient / Armor

Armor is in the denominator. That is not linear. There is a huge difference between going from 2000 to 2100 and going from 3000 to 3100.

Thoughness effectiveness doesn’t have diminishing returns. EHP scales linearly with thoughness (+ a few bonus jumps in EHP when it saves you time for a new heal/regen tick)

Yes it has dimish returns. No it is not linear. Look at the dmg formula. Thoughness counts twards armor, and armor is dividing on the formula.

For every 21 precision point you get 1% critical chance. You can’t make the same relation for thoughness. It works the same way as magic find, it is easy to obtain the first % dmg mitigation, but the armor/thoughness needed to get the nextra % of dmg reduction is higher and higher.

Cut endurance regen by half and make vit or thoughness give extra endurance regen. In a way that a player running a vit/thoughness main would have the same endurance regen as now and a player running 0 vit/thoughenss would have 50% of the current endurance regen.

In a organized big group (zerg/blob) condis are not a problem. Most heavy condi sources are single target while lots of condi clears are aoe (shouts, PF, etc).

In small scale fights condis are a problem. If you are not playing a build with tons of condi clear you will die in seconds. When facing a pu mes or pd thief even a meandru staff ele running -40% food has a hard time getting rid of condis.

At least people that run power based dps builds are squishy because zerker offers no defensive stat. Dire lets condi dps builds still be as tanky as pvt and do very high dmg because they only need 1 offensive stat compared with 3 for direct dmg.

A nerf to burning and reduce the stealth of PU will probably solve the problem.

From the specializations already revealed, mesmer is the only good one.

Dragonhunter = a weird nerfed version of trap ranger
Tempest = seems to have less dmg and less group support than staff. worst at 1v1 than dd
Reaper= try using chill on players running -97% chill duration and tons of condi clear.

Dragonhunter is basically a better ranger.

A 25 vulnerability stack trap for 10 seconds is far better than any trap out there.

I don’t see any duel, pvp or wvw potential for a dragonhunter. Vul is still only 1 condi and easy to remove.

Things that could help solving the problem:

  1. -Nerf burning base dmg
  2. -Make precision have diminish returns like toughness. Instead of linear can make it logarithmic.
  3. -Reduce base healing and increase the scaling with healing power. Similar to what they did to warrior shouts. That way you don’t have people that run no healing power and still heal crazy amounts.
  4. -Reduce base endurance regen. Shortage of dodges make you think more strategically when to use them and moves some builds away from the state of imune/dodge spam.

Might happen personally I find the burning atm moment rather weak In the past my fuly buffed mesmer could do 1 burn but burn 1150 /tick, now burning is 450/ tick only more stacks, I’d advise not to stay in the fields… but if they do they should repair some of the DPS loss from bleeds and poison. They are horridly underwhelming..

1- They reduced the base dmg but increased the scaling with condi dmg. If you are using a main stat condi dmg gear you should be doing more dmg now.

4- There are builds that can spam so much imune/evades to the point where running zerker their survivability is at the same lvl as other builds running pvt. Like some thief and mesmer builds. Anet did a great job nerfing Vigor uptime and the effect of Vigor itself. But more nerfs are needed. Evade spam is one of the most important things that destroy the game balance. You don’t see people spamming immunes on competitive mobas or fps.

Someone posted a long time ago on the forums that moa removes minions due to a problem with the code (not confirmed).

Anet doesn’t seem to care enough to try to fix/change it. Too many players QQing about MM necro, which is an underpowered build with no mobility. It is in the same place as longbow rangers, not OP, but people like to QQ without reason.

I would like to see how the community would react if the skill getting 100% hardcountered and entering on full cooldown was other. Imagine if it was cantrip, deception, stances or clones. Probably would explode in rage. But because it is just minions, no one likes minions, it is just ok.

Overload:
I don’t like the overload mechanic. The cooldowns are way too long.

Warhorn:
Looks lice as a full group support weapon, but I still thik that the staff does it better.

For wvw zerging staff will probably still be better. It has superior range and is aoe. If you use a warhorn you are either going single target scepter or melee dagger….

Shouts:
They look terrible compared with cantrips. Burn, cripple, immob and chill? Zergs are almost immune to condis in wvw. Even roamers have an easy time against condis if you are not a very heavy condi build. There are people running around with -97% chill, cripple and immob duration.
The elite shout has potential in a very organized group. But in most cases it will be useless. You pop elite shout, and player uses a low cd skill…. It is very rare to land on a good combo and small reward skill. How about thieves and revs? How is it going to work?
The healing looks weak. 1.5s cast time, easy to interrupt. If you are not using the signet, your personal survivability drops a lot for pvp. The healing also looks weak. Ok, it is aoe, but isn’t it just better to slot arcane briliance and blast a water field?

Ele already has 2 great offhands. Would be better to get some kind of aoe mid range main hand.

But they are gaining more loot by being able to kill players more efficiently -> exploit affects the economy?

That player could be getting 10 times more gold/itens doing pve. That is not really affecting the economy. It is also not a direct relationship. One could be without the buff and still make more gold per hour deppending on the server/guild he is in.

I’m talking about big things like the snowflakes incident, where people found a broken recipe and started mass crafting and salvaging for infinite reward loop. That thing made anet mass ban exploiters.

I’ve done map 100% on 3 characters and I think it is a good idea.

Nowadays we can buy cars, that doesn’t sound far because people 300 years ago had to use horses…..

Infinite GoE’s would significantly trivialize the quest for a legendary. 100’s of times more so than when they removed WvW for 100% completion. It would basically make an account capable of crafting a legendary in much less time. We are not talking hours or a few days, we are talking many days to weeks depending on play time and dedication to the map completion task.

Under the infinite GoE rational, Gift of Battle should be account wide unlock as well. No more ever having to WvW once it is done. All the other gifts as well, no more farming for mats. You see where this is going. Once you have all the gifts unlocked for your account all you ever have to do is acquire the precursor.

Trivialize making a legendary? I thought that be able to straight up buy from TP was already trivializing….

Yes, make gift of batte account wise makes sense. Oh wait, badges of honor are already account wise and the cost for the gift is so cheap that it is a joke. 1gift = 5 alpha golem blue prints…..

I was talking about making all Gifts infinite like you suggested for GoE. If you are going to make it infinite for one gift, might was well make it for all. Why not? If map exploration is taken out of the equation you might as well take away all the other requirements, right? Way to pick one example I mentioned even though I stated all gifts later on in my post to try to support your argument.

I support the idea of making map completion and waypoints accound wise.

For people talking about legendaries: It is pretty simple to fix it. Just make like the achievement point skins. After you unlock once, you can get infinite copies from the hero’s pannel.

Just so I understand. So once you complete the map on one character you get infinite Gifts of Exploration? Yeah that won’t fly with people that have done 100% on several alts for those gifts.

If you observe the patch notes from the last 2 years, you will see ranger is one of the class which got the most buffs.

Just to list a few:

-longbow dmg buff
-GS dmg buff
-reduce dc on shouts
-entangle reduced cd to 60s
-reduce the cd on signets
-warhorn cd reduction
-axe might on autoatck
-countless trait buffs
-etc…

So you went through all the countless patch notes the last two years in detail to come up with that conclusion

I play this game since 2013. During that time I’ve read pretty much all class balance patch notes.

Yes, ranger is one class has been getting constant buffs, patch after patch. Compare the today’s ranger with the 2.5 years ago ranger. Now look at classes like thief, ele, guard, that are always getting nerfs….

I compared Thief, Ele and Guard from 2012 and 2013 to today.

They’re pretty much the same.

Thief got huge dmg nerfs on a lot of skills. You can’t crit on steal anymore. Watch those videos of people 2shoting players in 1 second before backstab nerf.

Any skill with a very high telegraphed and long cast time will end up like killshot, 100blades, Churning Earth. Impossible to land on duels against smart players.

I like the suggestion of reducing its cd remove the stun and make it insta cast.

Rev has no stealth (yet?).

One thing that allows thieves to run super glassy builds in wvw is the easy access to stealth and blinks. I don’t see rev replacing thieves in roaming or spvp.

I bring multiple sets of gear on all characters so I can switch builds and gear as needed.

I have multiple sets on my inventory, but for wvw I only use my roaming/dueling set. If I see a zerg is going to fail I just jump ship and go do something else. Doing a little bit extra dmg on a pug zerg won’t save them. So I keep my cele staff setup all time.

I guess it deppends on the player objective. Mine is survive at all cost and be running an effective 1v1, small scale build all the time. Cele staff working for zerging is just a good side effect.

I support the idea of reducing the out of combat healing. Removing it, will probably a risky move. Reducing it and observing the results is probably a better approach.

Out of combat regen is one of the reasons some specs are useless in pve, and one of the reasons classes that can reset fights can be op.

Normally competitive games don’t have this “run away get 100% hp back” feature. In FPS normally the competitive hardcore mode has the reset hp feature turned off.

I would run with roaming gear all the time if I were you. I like to play a full cele staff adapted from what I run in spvp.

An ele with roaming gear in a zerg can do just fine. You still can drop the same fields, just do a bit less dmg.

A zerker staff ele roaming is a walking lootbag if focused by any decent player with a good build.

Some people are just doing their dailies and don’t care about conquest mode and the reward for losing ranked is better than wining a hotjoin.

Same thing happens on battlefield4 conquest large. Instead of defending points some people prefer to camp sniper on roof tops even if that makes your team lose. If the game mode goal is boring people will just ignore it.

In the other hand doing dungeons you get so much gold you can just buy the equivalent exotic gear from the TP. Probabily even faster than spvp reward track. Unless you are going for the skin….

I agree they should nerf the reward tracks a little bit, but they are too busy trying to push the “wanna be esport” idea to spvp. Pve and wvw are left to dust while they focus kitten spvp.

The new camera system is great. The problem is the AC design. It is a dumb idea to change the camera back to what it was just because AC can be broken sometimes.

Ac was should be the anti personal weapon, not the anti siege weapon. Make it do 0 dmg to siege and it becomes much more balanced like the other siege weapons.

There is no risk in play a ranged class with insta cast burst. Also its ranged abilities are either unblock-able or non reflectable. Top that with the one of the highest stealth, imunes and teleports on the game.

Mesmer needs a fix and I can’t see many people disagreeing with that.
Blinding dissipation shouldn’t go through block and evade
PU gives too much stealth uptime and makes downright cheesy build
The Pledge encourage stealth camping
Confounding Suggestion makes our bust way too easy for an adept skill and needs a shave or an ICD per target.
I’d also like to have mender’s purity work for our third healing mantra and not create this annoying bug that reset our skill queue, making us needing to press our first skill after its proc many times.

Nothing ever satisfy everyone, and everything is broken in the eyes of someone, and yes the game needs balance, yes some builds needs fix and all and I agree with it wholeheartedly, however my problem comes with kittenty whining about “problems” that doesn’t in fact exist, but you make them out because you don’t know what you’re against.

Ranged abilities non reflectable: true for greatsword and scepter? I think, because they aren’t checked as ranged like arrows or bullets from rifle.
Ranged Abilities unblocakble: False, beside the bounce on Mirror Blade all of our abilities are blockable, except blind on shatters, but that needs a fix.

Highest stealth: Highest stealth UPTIME, we have three skills giving us stealth if we have torch decoy and MI (4 with veil), the CDs are long and I do like to keep MI and Decoy as "saving-my-kitten skills.
Immunes: Blurred frenzy: half-a-second evade, vulnerable to retaliation, rooted during the skill, 12 CD; Distortion: 1s per clone and self shattered, 50 CD… Yes I can see the almighty immune there… OH signet gives a second when traited, but then, no teleport, no decoy or anything, just signet.

Teleport: Staff Phase retreat, which is a 240 port away from target, we don’t even control where we end up and doesn’t break stun, just get us away from kitten, which is nice. And Blink, 1200 range, Break Stun, 30 CD. Highest Teleports of the game checked…

Insta cast Burst: The burst everyone is talking about is a "Mirror Blade => Blink => Mind Wrack => Mind Stab => Distortion combo. Mirror blade cast is 3/4 second channel time, highly visible and telegraphed, Mind Wrack is instant, Blink is instant, but it needs to be well timed with Mirror Blade, Mind Stab is 1/4 second channel time. The burst is almost an all-in. I say almost, because other set of weapon is available. But Mind Wrack is on CD, most of the GS skills are on CDs and probably a couple of Power Lock has been used too… But it’s not instant cast nor one-shot kill. It’s a set of 4 very well timed (easily timed now because of Mantra that locks foe in place) Skill. An Fresh Air ele can do the same with the same amount of skills, really.

Mantra activation is insta cast. And you can start the combo from stealth, so people wont even see the start. It is insta cast. Fresh ele burst is not even close to that. Only the air 2-3 are instant. Dragon’s thoth is hugely telegraphed and slow.

Yes phase retreat is a teleport. Same as Ele’s lightning flash. It is not a stun break but it is still a teleport.

Blurred frenzy is 2.5s not 0.5s.

Berserker stance could pulse resistance every 2-4 seconds. That way warrior can get the benefits of extra boon duration but also the negative side like getting corrupted. By pulsing small duration boon instead of just 1 big one it makes harder for people to just hard counter the skill.

Air 3 and earth 5 should work line the revenant’s stability road or warrior’s GS #3. Instead of require a target let you ground target it.

Air, earth and water 1 also could get some projectile speed buff too.

There is no risk in play a ranged class with insta cast burst. Also its ranged abilities are either unblock-able or non reflectable. Top that with the one of the highest stealth, imunes and teleports on the game.

Failure? It is a very popular map. It is normal to see people filling 3 overflows of EoTM.

It is part of the play how you want philosophy. Some players will not defend because you get more reward attacking and letting the enemy flip. This also happens in normal wvw maps depending on the hour and tier you are playing. If you want to go and defend go ahead and do it.

EoTM is a complete success. Some people even use it to do gvgs inter-tiers.

They should make the same they did to warrior healing shouts. Nerf the base healing and increase the scaling.

Conditions had the same treatment last update. Now people with 0 condi dmg do less dmg per stack of condi than before.

This is a cool idea, but they don’t do it for community-run events, only things planned and managed by ANet themselves. That includes the ESL, GO4, WTS, ToL, and a few other scattered one-offs ANet manages. The only way we could get this to happen is if we got ANet to host some kind of dungeon event themselves… That seems unfortunately very unlikely.

So you just listed 4 spvp events managed by anet and 0 for pve/wvw. As the pve forum specialist don’t you think they should stop with this predilection towards spvp and give some attention to the rest of the playerbase?
