hello,
since i plan to craft a minimum of 8 of the ascended spinal backpieces i need the required amount of blade shards. since i haven’t noticed any announcement if they will still be obtainable after tuesdays patch i wanted to ask if anyone else has.
i kinda wanna know if i have to grind through the weekend like a madman or if i can chill and gather them at a more adequate pace.

Sorry everybody, I was wrong earlier.

The crafting stations did not get moved to Vigil’s Keep. However, you can travel directly from Vigil’s Keep to one of the other cities of Tyria at no cost the cost of time spent in loading screen via asura gate travel, all of which have crafting stations.

i corrected this a little. it’s quite obvious where this comes from. it’s the same old marketing tactics again and again. everyone who cares can see it but milking those who don’t seems to be enough.
however, every company wants to grab as much money as they can since the people who decide how things go are those who have no knowledge about or interest in the game but a rather large portfolio which pays the employee’s wage so they have no choice but smoothing things down when such decisions as taking away comfortable features sneakily to raise the willingness of buying the convenience back are made. of course those tickets aren’t new but do you really think nobody had this in mind when the decision to release those were made? if you want to boil a frog without him noticing you have to start at low temperature.
on the other hand this is pretty much standard for any profit-oriented company with the only exception of npos (which exclude themselves by name) and maybe some local craftsmen, so why the rage? do you expect anet to not use everything to maximize their profit while competing with other companies who do?
yes, you’re going to be scammed by someone directly or indirectly no matter what you buy or do or don’t. let’s be a little more indifferent about this.

you could level up pve characters to 80 if you haven’t done that. you could fill the gaps in your pvp locker just for completionist purposes. apart from that there is not much you can do.

the difference is that on a forum a string of characters is publicly viewable over an undefined time span also by people not interactive with the ToS (gw2 players, mostly) while the ingame communication is a singular event, stored only a short amount of time viewable to specific players and monitored nearly exclusively retrospectively on demand by a single individual anet employee or a small conglomerate of those.

with a broad variety of quality game modes the quantity of maps doesn’t matter.

you could easily play modes like ctf or deathmatch on current maps with absolutely minimalistic changes. for ctf just add a ramp to the base, remove npcs and place a carriable thingy in there. for a more sophisticated ctf-experience place buffs where the cappoints were.
let people choose between gamemodes while joining a roster, give them a random map and et voila, you have several gamemodes with little effort.

it would be extremely easy to remodel existing maps into other game modes and it would take aeons less time than making a new map for every single game mode.

however, all is vain. pvp was neglected for such a long time that even something completely revolutionary would not bring people back. people are resentful because it’s their nature and being ignored and fed crumbs for over a year ruined this games reputation for srs pvp players for good. so instead of trying to make some kind of new revolutionary and “awesome” (this word is so overused, if someones says it i instantly assume they are exaggerating) map, which probably will take another ten years to complete after iterating it a thousand bazillion times, it would be by far wiser to make small adjustments to please those few stubborn dudes and dudesses that are still there.

i could ramble on but i think this post is long enough. people don’t have that kind of attention span nowadays.

play decap engineer/ fear necro -> calibrate the hammer -> nuke everything to death and occasionally fear/launch people off the platform (if stab, rip it) -> win -> repeat.

i see no competition in ignoring every game mechanic except boonrip and cc.

while i have to say, that i occasionally play skyham in hotjoin, just for teh lolz of kicking people around i have also the urge to point out that there is a very good reason for this map (as well as the shiny-bubble-running-map) not to be in teamq and it also should vanish from soloq (those maps are the #1 reason i don’t play soloq anymore).

it’s a fun map, no question, but it’s not suited for srs pvp.

we have a lot of knockback as engineers, so my survival strategy apart from the obvious block skills on shield and tool kit (this kit never leaves my bar, be it the block, the confusion the cripple/condidmg through the box or the magnet with which you can pull people from ledges or interrupt or even render them useless at stillness on silent storm) is knocking people around as hard as i can. stability is not something everyone has and especially everything apart from guardian, ranger or warrior can be successfully kicked from one maps end to another. interrupting rotations at the right time can take a huge load of dmg off you.
in 1v1 a dead opponent is the least dangerous so i always try to burst them down (be it with conditions or power), interrupt their healskill and finish them off in those 3 seconds. if you’re only on the defensive you won’t survive. not getting any pressure gives the opponent the possiblity to unleash their full kitten nal (the word is ars_enal, this half baked censorship script annoys me. apart from “ar_se” being a word that even kindergarten-kids don’t even laugh about anymore nowadays. update your censorship to 2014, pls) on you.
also since i don’t know every single animation from every skill of every class i usually spam blind like a madman in fight against more than one person. pistol #3 does not do that much damage but is casted very quickly, so keep it until you see an opponent use his big moves. you can quickly put on blind and your opponent will usually not be able to cleanse it since he’s already stuck in the animation (best example: eviscerate). also use blind if stomping. smoke bomb or a smoke vent at the right time can ensure the kill. i have seen so many people die because they weren’t able to stomp and had to fight 1v2 from there.

however, this joke aside i’d also like to see the luck droprate increased in pvp. it should be even a great deal larger in pvp since you don’t get salvagable items in pvp as easy as in pve.

I may just be a skeptic, but I feel that increasing points per kill, at least in the current meta, would just push players even further into defensive/attrition builds rather than offensive. It’s safer.

that was exactly my thought on this topic.
however, that’s something that i actually would want to see in the game (10-15 points for a kill) but i don’t think it would work in this meta. lots of changes would need to be made previously before such a thing could be introduced and not get out of hand.

the best compromise i can think of for now is giving people the option to change the amount of points per kill in ca. this and the option to turn off the points would make it possible to simulate deathmatch (100 pts per kill) or even sudden-death matches (500 pts per kill) and those solutions at least to me sound much easier to achieve than making a new pvp-mode or designing a new map for that purpose.

i’ve played decapper from time to time with lots of variations and over a long time (half a year?)
i have also tried the combination of ar+srd+pi+sa but personally i like to play somehow more agressive.
there of course are some pretty obvious drawbacks: first thing is that anyone with a decent amount of stability and/or knockback will just laugh at you (you can use the mine to rip stab, but you give up a lot of defense with that which is needed to hold far for a decent time) and you might be lacking manpower while the engi is trying to get far. this tactic is devastating if unsuccessful because either you’re one man down on mid or have no homeguard. there are also more specific counters: what i for example see very often is that people (especially necros) try to load as much conds as they can on an engineer if he gets near the 30% in order to have them locked in during the time of srd/ar since you can’t do anything in that form (this only counts if both traits are used together, as they mostly are). as another engineer i really love to have the bob waiting for them in place when they get out of invulnerability or can even prepare the shields stun (activate block half a sec before they get out and you have something like an instant interrupt ready if you are somewhere near them). well, any stun is good, just count down the seconds: at 3.5 cast your stun and burst down the last 20-25%. this way you can take out most of the engineers using this trait combination. it’s of course a lot harder to do that if they play without srd (which i would highly recommend) but most people use it.
anyway, apart from that i don’t really want to support passive play so i definitely want those traits changed, as i want every single trait changed that activates actual skills passively on any class.

tl:dr: pi+sa are fine, it’s the only counter the engineer has against massive stunspam by f.e. warriors. it makes us quite bunkery but it’s not a chance to restart like ar+srd which both i think absolutely need to be changed

erm, what? coordinated teams in teamq? mostly i play against teams made up by 5 seperate people or at best 2-3. it’s rather rare that i stumble upon full teams.
i play teamq solo because there is no skyham and shiny-bubble-map (edit: i just read here it’s called spirit watch). as a solo player i’d still recommend teamq.

sure i am, but it’d be nice to somehow use that time i stand around waiting for opponents to simply check up roles or builds.
with teamchat available in the roster people who join late would have a chance to read it.
it’s not a pressing issue, but i think it’d be a nice-to-have.

the engineer will probably get you the most out of the combat system. you have a lot of movement, cc and quirky skills. rotations can be mixed widely to have various effects (not that anything except fast damage matters in pve) and once you got control over your rotations you can actually play the engineer like a 3d-beat ‘em up on crack.
his variety aside he will, however, always lack in terms of numerical damage (f.e. compared to the warrior) and also lacks things that smoothen up difficult content (walls, reflects, stability) since he indeed has those abilities (as he has nearly any ability) but they don’t last very long and are difficult to trait if you want to keep up with the damage.

there’s quite a engineer-boom in pvp right now. the engi has probably the broadest set of viable builds out of all classes. it ranges from high risk burst over tanky condition and heavy teamsupport to stuff like point decapper or whatever weird job there is to be done.
how the engi is doing in high ranked games i can’t tell because i’m not even in the lederborsd but from what i’ve seen in streams there aren’t much engineers up there. i might be wrong or have watched the wrong streams, though.

I’m surprised no one is dissing farming yet. The common player here doesn’t understand that purposive activity in a game is not problem behavior.

that’s because by now everyone understood that you can’t play the story 15 times and afford stuff that you want and actually need to farm like hell for even mid-tier rarity items.

the line to p2w was already crossed with the ore-pack. hell, the line was already crossed with being able to buy gold for gems. this and the pick are p2w by definition. that the items (or the chance for items) you get by paying for gemshop stuff are not worth much does not change the fact that you can pay money (or buy “money (gems)” for gold, which systematically doesn’t matter in the end because someone else had to buy it) to generate numerical advatages ingame. pay-to-win-an-insignificant-amount is still pay-to-win.

since p2w (as it’s defined by logic, people tend to have rude things called “opinions” apart from that) was included in this game from the beginning, i don’t care that much about that pick. resignation makes indifferent. just placing my post in this pot of “wrong direction, anet!”-shouters, so that maybe one day it might spill over.

hi, i was wondering if anybody can tell me what exactly the trigger for apt is in general and if it works with the crate in special.
i assume it only works if the engineer himself triggers the blast so it doesn’t count for crate, am i right in this assumption? everything around me explodes and people are flying around at those cap points so i can’t keep up with where i blasted whom so it’s kinda hard to get empiric results.

that is something that’s bothering me since quite a time. all i wanted was a thoroughly obese female norn guardian. a bunker needs weight. or a really fat cat. one that cannot run on four feet anymore because its belly is touching the floor. or a poundy human slab of meat that can use her mamas as a blunt weapon in one of those stripper outfits anet claims to be armors. that’d look like real life.
not because of a special reason or some weird identification or whatever, just because why not?

  1. It gives players more chances to tag enemies in zergs, as they basically get an extra half of a health bar.

i suppose it was already posted somewhere here, but i think the easiest way would just be to spam the world with books. this way there’d be no need to make time consuming cutscenes. there are a lot of bookshelves in tyria, just fill them. make those items inventory items on pickup and you’ll even make monetary profit through limiting inventory-/storage space if people want to keep one or another of those.
i think there’s no shame in copying good stuff from other games and i think noone will disagree that TES has shown how to efficiently implement written story into a game.

it’s just that apart from the inquest it’s kinda boring. zergfarm is not actually the definition of “fun”.
the costs of the new items are so over the top, that i personally don’t even bother thinking about getting them, which reduces halloween for me to the inquest alone (noones gonna do those instances twice after getting the achievement, except for helping mates or something).

@ baron: absolutely right, i experimented a little with percental damage traits and forgot to switch back, though i’d rather take the 5% damage over bleeds or burn (so you only lose 5% if you dodge, which you will have to at some time). i edited the corrected link in my post.
still, if you switch to bombs you should also get this extra range. the 20% cd on the other side are crucial.

i’ve seen that build soymilk has posted making it’s round, but i really can’t tell, how it would be that great damagewise. i also would recommend healing turret over med kit since it’s direct healing is definately higher (+ reg + 2 water combo fields which everyone else in the group can trigger, though the tb-skill-field only lasts 1sec) except if you actually switch to the kit and start planting those packs which keeps you from making damage. the only reason to pick the kit is the 15sec fury, which is still inconvenient to use. and as i said condis lose to crits anytime when it comes to damage (even if you’d stack bleeds up to 25, which is nasty/time consuming it would give what, about 1.5k dps? that’s the damage of one single grenade on autoattack. you’d need 25 stacks of bleeding at 2.5 – 2.7k condidmg just to match the autoattack, come on …to be fair i have to say that this gap slightly decreases with very high armor [f.e. high level fractals] but never so far that condidmg would exceed critdmg), so i’m not sure about eg (and the gear except the trinkets) being the best choice for a “pure damage” build. sure, it gives some healing but in the end it’s better to block/dodge damage, than being bound to a certain location if you actually want that skills to heal you.
if you actually do the math aim’s claim with the “highest dps” is nothing more than hot air.
