to me gw2 is a fantasy dress up simulator with rpg mechanics and pvp attached to it. same goes for gw1 but the pvp part is primary.
that would put me somewhere between killer and achiever since in those games i find joy in completing outfits i put together and the demise of my opponents. by winning i make somebody else lose and their resignation makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

you sell dungeonpaths/fractals at your own risk. maybe and only maybe if some mod is merciful they will give someone a temp ban. i heard that happened but it won’t happen systematically and imo it shouldn’t happen at all.
selling dungeons is unintended gameplay and while it may be tolerated it is not supported.
get that into your heads already.

i don’t have the patience to read all of that but i’ll fly over it. it seems that fractals to you are some sort of challenging. well, that’s nice for you. i skip in fractals as much as i skip in dungeons. the difficulty in both is so low that it doesn’t make a difference to me. instabilities are a joke that is easily worked around.
there are no contradictions, you’re just having a stroke.
also, i am excited that there are 50 new fractal levels i just don’t see the necessity to kill dungeons for it. you don’t seem to understand the bigger picture here. anet is killing off older content in favor of the new stuff. fractals are gonna be next at some point. why and with what intention is obvious, i hope i don’t have to explain.
yes, some fractal encounters are more complex than some dungeon encounters. but then again some dungeon encounters are more complex than some fractal encounters. there’s a lot of standing in a corner and bursting dps in fractals as well. also a lot of skipping. and yes, i actually am speedrunning some fractals in 5 minutes (swamp, mai trin, molten dudes). some take slightly longer. perhaps 10 minutes. about the same time many dungeon paths take. some take around 15 minutes. there are also dungeons paths that take this long. see, you’re comparing the shortest, easiest dungeon path with the longest, most difficult fractal. do you understand why i can’t take you srsly?
yes, dungeon rewards are ok for the time it takes. fractal rewards are kitten for the time it takes (not that much more than dungeons, slightly? … yes, a lot? … no). still both don’t compare to open world farming reward wise which seems to be perfectly fine in your dreamworld. this is not about dungeons vs fractals, this is about rewards in general and how dungeon rewards compare to them and this includes open world as well.

i’ll say it again, i’m upset they are removing balanced rewards from content that is as easy as everything else.

and if you are walking out of a fractal with more loot then a dungeon then congrats. i walk out of a lvl50 fractal with loot that worth what i get in one single dungeon path. again, this doesn’t mean dungeon rewards are broken (in a sense that it’s too much, see sw) but fractals rewards are broken (in a sense that it’s not enough, basically some luck, some mats an 3 cores).

i am absolutely interested in the content. content as in all those shiny skins i can dress up my characters with. how i get them i don’t really care. if anet wouldn’t have disappointed me over and over again i would just buy them with cash (-> gold) like i did in the first 1.5 years after release.
content as in gameplay content is way too easy and unsophisticated to be excited about. that’s what pvp is for. there i can’t find the mandatory flaw in every AI.

Promoting their latest gimmicks by taking alternate gameplay modes and nerfing them into the ground? Classic Anet.

Removing the rewards from overly farmed, broken content to help in an overall effort to balance the in-game economy is the right thing to do. Redistribute rewards to reflect the difficulty of the content completed as opposed to rewarding brainless speed-farming that inflates the economy is the right thing to do.

in that case anet should probably remove the bandit chests from sw and halve the rewards from the breach.

Wrong. The gold made in SW is mainly from salvage/mats etc, which is traded amongst players. Dungeons reward gold upon completion, which inflates the market with gold from thin air being injected into the economy.. It’s very easy to understand, if one is being objective about the matter.

you should read my posts, you might understand a thing or two.
on average you get about 5s pro bandit chest. that means you need 20 bandit chests to be on par with all dungeon paths except ac and arah. those 20 bandit chests you get faster than a dungeon path takes (on average).
you get more pure gold through sw chestfarming than through running dungeons. yet, chestfarming is perfectly fine. explain.

usually people don’t suddenly start to play a lot better than they usually do.
if i see my team collectively make crucial mistakes i explain in chat what needs to be done and why. if i see them not follow the instructions i sabotage the match so it’s over as fast as possible in order to get rid of those people.
i’m not talking about little stuff here but kitten like getting plastered 4v3 or 4v2 or one dude constantly running far just to get killed there over and over again. or if my team doesn’t seem to know how secondary mechanics work.
before i took a long break i never did this since i was being matched with people that at least knew the basics. after i come back i throw every third match because i know after 5 min that if the opponent team doesn’t go afk it’s gonna be a total blowout loss.
i’m smart. i only fight winnable fights.

I think you missed the part where fractals are no longer 3 and 4 chain sets, but you can do one at a time and log out and still make progress to your next boss chest.

you’re talking about that chest with some blue and green items in it? sorry, i’d have have the ensured amount of gold. even then i still need infusions to play higher fractals which actually might give me a reward that actually makes a dent.

You’re aware you get infusions out of every single fractal chest now right? And you can craft them together with only 100 in artificer and no other materials required.

By the time you get to the point you need AR in fractals, since the agony infusion patch, you actually already have the AR. You get a ring guaranteed at 10. Don’t like it? You can salvage it now in addition to just running 10 a couple more times to buy the exact ring you want

Of course now you have to actually play harder content to get better rewards

That’s a buff, not a nerf, to GW2 in general.

I’m calling it like I see it. The people mad about the dungeon reward change were simply people that didn’t want to play dungeons. They wanted to farm dungeons.

They moved the farms out of instances so you don’t have to find a group in order to farm. They want instances to be challenging and fun and pay out appropriate rewards for difficulty.

i don’t need rings, i have two bank tabs full of them. what i will need will be tons of gold in infusions i will need to farm in order to be geared for fractals i already unlocked. this was already the case with lvl 50 (when i reached level 50 i had about 1/2 of the infusions i needed for that level, obviously i had to buy the rest since i can’t be bothered with grinding) and this will be even more a case with lvl 100 since the amount of infusions needed rises exponentially. if the formula stays the same we’ll need more than 120 ar for lvl 100 fractals. don’t tell me it’s possible to get those infusions through playing fractals in a reasonable time. even if the new consumables and masteries will get us 20 ar we’ll still need 2 +10 ones to get there. that’S 2050 +1 infusions. you get … i dunno … 1-2 of them per fractal? that’s ONLY MORE THAN 1500 kittenING FRACTALS TO PLAY ON AVERAGE. 7.5 times as much as needed to get to lvl 100. i don’t care about the difficulty level, i’m a very good player. i can run 50s in my sleep and i will be able to run 100s while at least half awake. my skill is irrelevant tho because i have to grind (or buy) enough infusions to be even ABLE to do that content. i could be the best player in the world but the mandatory ar at the beginning of a boss fractal will kill me.
come on, tell me that has nothing to do with grind. have you actually thought about it even for a minute?
and what your confused mind thinks about what is farming or not is irrelevant. running dungeons nets you less gold than most other farming options which anet seems to wholeheartedly support.
even a tryhard white knight like you has to accept the facts. otherwise you’re just delusional.

I didn’t say dungeons were a better farm, I said dungeons were broken content that people are abusing as a farm

That’s not white knighting. That’s a fact.

As for your fractal woes, yes. The intent is that you repeat revolving content to level it up. it sucks that you, like many of us, started fractals before the agony infusion handouts, but let’s be real here.

Fractals were always designed to be repeated in the pursuit of more AR. That’s why there are more than 4 fractals, so you’re not mindlessly farming the same content over and over trying to move from L30 to L31.

How is that more of a grind than running COF1 over and over and over?

If you consider repeating content a grind, then fractals are, by their very nature the least grindy content in the game because you’re virtually guaranteed to have a different set every time you run them. Will you be repeating fractals a fair bit? Yes.

But then you’re repeating a far larger amount of content than if you farm dungeon paths. And you’re actually gaing progress toward better loot every time you progress.

How you could find that less fun than repeating broken paths for gold over and over is beyond me.

You can toss around wordy like “tryhard” and “white knight” all you like, but it is obvious that you’re not interested in playing, it seems, any content that isn’t completely faceroll, or you’re just bored with the game in general.

You’re mad, specifically, because they’re taking the wheels off your gravy train, and now you might actually have to play the game to make some gold.

Cry me a river.

i do not find that more or less fun than dungeons. i actually play fractals when i have the time. the thing is that fractals don’t offer me any kind of reward except for a few green and blue items and some cores for the boss fractals. for a dungeons path i get at least 1 gold. that’s the topic here, rewards. fractals don’t give any monetary gain.
also there are more dungeon paths than fractals. i have seen every single fractal more often than cof 1 or cof in general. how is this less repetitive in my case then? also we’re talking about the system after the patch, i guess you haven’t noticed. how is farming swamp on several levels not a farm, hmh? and seriously, you call 14 fractals a larger amount of content than 25 dungeon paths? get your head fixed, mate.

you don’t take every factor into account. cof i can do for a fix reward without the necessity to grind grind beforehand. for fractals i have to grind an INSANE amount of infusions to have a slightly higher rng on craploot. i don’t like gearchecks, that’s not what this game was supposed to be about. there’s also the requirement of time.
i don’t have time to run a whole lvl 50 (100 in the near future) fractal just to be rewarded with trashloot i could have gotten from killing 20 random mobs. i might have only 30 min and that way i can do 2 dungeon paths for a reasonable reward. it’s not that the rewards from dungeons are over the top, the rewards from fractals are just utter crap.
and you seem weirdly stuck on that cof 1 even after i told you i don’t do cof. and even if, what’s wrong with getting one gold from cof 1 a day? to which extent does this break the economy more than sw chest farming? chest farming seems to be fine according to anet. you make way more gold doing that than running dungeons btw.

and here we are again. how are dungeons broken? what are those “broken paths”? how are they more broken than the fractals? explain that to me. as far as i can see everything is fine with them. why should anet nerf the dungeon farm if they are not nerfing other kinds of farms that are even more lucrative? why not put a cd on bandit chests? or a 24h timer on the breach rewards? as others have said before flooding players with items is as bad as flooding them with gold. also the chests contain gold themselves and getting the 20 chests you need to make up for one dungeon path takes less time than any dungeon path except for perhaps 2 or 3.
i guess someone took a beginner course in economics, didn’t completely understand it but is still a bit full of himself (this is not directed towards you but the other idiot).
just do the math, numbers don’t lie.

and taking the wheels off of what? come on you made that gravy train up. as you might have not read i actually do run max lvl fractals. to me there’s not really a difference between a dungeon path and a lvl 50 fractal. both easy af. fractals just take longer. if i want to have a challenge i play something else than gw2. gw2 is a dress up simulator for weird looking humanoids and that’s it. if you really find ANY content in gw2 difficult i question your skills. how is playing an easy game not playing the game?
you just state that dungeons are broken yet you won’t tell my why. the reason is because you have no compelling arguments and just talk out of your kitten .
get lost, troll, i have no more time for you.

and no, i haven’t been in cof or cm in a while. usually i run ac full, ta full, se 1, hotw 1, coe full and arah 1+2. in which order and how many depends on what i fancy at the moment and how much time i have. this way i can get perhaps 4-5 gold for an hour of playing and i don’t see anything wrong with that amount.
that’s less than i would get in sw or with other farming methods but the content is actually fun an not as repetitive. lowering the rewards is just the first step of a campaign to get people away from the dungeons so at some point they can just get rid of them by integrating watered down versions of them into fractals. why? because it’s cheaper and that ncsoft investor really needs those few thousand bucks. call it a conspiracy theory but that’s usually where this road ends.

this is the biggest bullkitten they could have come up with. i have no time (and therefore need) for raids that are several hours long. dungeons are the only way to actually make some gold (>some<, not that’s it’s an insane amount or anything, and it’s also timegated) in a way that’s at least somehow interesting. take that away and i don’t really have any reason to play this game at all.
i know they want to direct everybody towards raids and fractals so dungeons just aren’t played any more at some point because they don’t want to deal with them but that’s a cheap and obviously manipulative approach that’s very upsetting. now you have to grind kitten (be it ascended stuff or infusions) in order to be able to play worthwhile content, great. i bought this game because i was promised that this would not be the case.
i guess it was a big mistake to preorder hot as it seems they’re gonna make my preferable content into some oddity that’s not worthwhile the time. i could compensate by just buying gold with cash but i don’t respond well to those kind of business tactics. i will throw my money at some other company in the future.
well, at least i have learned something from that.
in the end discussing it is pointless since it seems to already be set in stone. not many people will care about this anyway since anet did a good job at overplaying it with hype. i guess the target audience has shifted to people that can grind 12 hours a day. better look for a game that suits me better.

Engineer Shield

in PvP

Posted by: zaced.7948

zaced.7948

shield is fine, especially the change that you can move while channel #4 made it awesome. the problem with it being swept under the rug is that burning is way over the top and therefore pistol #4 becomes the preferred option. burning needs to be looked at anyway and if it would be shield would be on par with pistol again.

however: as already said the protection should apply at the end of a skill since it doesn’t give you much since you’re already blocking/reflecting.
also i think a cooldown decrease could make it too strong. reflect+blast/interrupt and block+stun/interrupt are strong tools if you use them right (another reason pistol is preferred: it’s a lot easier to use). i’m afraid they would be a bit too strong if they could be used more often, specifially in high end pvp. but then again, who plays engineer in high end pvp anyway?

having a pure dps stat is useless. only some tryhard wannabe pros would need a standalone dps meter.
i’m not against a measuring tool itself but this game is far too complicated for a pure dps meter to suffice.
if we’d gonna have average measurements then you need to take everything into account. how long have you ccd? how many dmg have to mitigated with condiclear? how many dmg have you mitigated with reflect? or blind? how much did your might/vuln stacking increase the dps?
and that might not even be enough. to have a tool that can show the full spectrum of somebodies usefulness it would have to calculate impossible tasks.
how often has your heal/support/waterblast/reflect/bodyblock/cc kept somebody from going into downed state (and therefore losing dps). how often have you executed the exact right cc in the exact right direction at the exactly right time? how much dmg have you miticated through interrupting specific abilities? or by how much did the dps increase my interrupting damage mitigation? how long has your (soft-)cc allowed melees to burst?
and so on

yeah right, a dps meter will show me all that … get outta here.

communication (which includes a guild for several reasons) makes all the difference. i’m still playing with the people i started gw1 about 10 years ago. everybody knows each other and even new, clueless members won’t be as annoying to pull through content since you can give them advice through voicechat (f.e. you tell them when to dodge at kohler or which utilities like reflect they have to pick and when to activate them and so on). this way people learn fast and will soon be valuable party members which won’t cripple your gold-per-hour rate when farming dungeons.

lfg on the other hand is a wasteland. i’m not very friendly towards pugs since to me they are not only just somebody but a potential hindrance of getting done all the dungeons i want in the time i want. half of the people there can’t play and the other half thinks they do but still can’t. i’m slightly exaggerating here but you get the point. people on the lfg are treated like organic bots. they listen to orders and execute them or they kitten off.
i have no responsibility to drag people through content. if they wish they can join the guild and receive proper training from the guildies but i don’t see any reason why i should type even one word more than “sup” when joining and “gg,thx, cya” when leaving in order to complete one or multiple dungeons. i have the right to discriminate against whichever player i want to. if i don’t want to play with a newbie i shouldn’t have to. if i post an lfg that says i look for a fast run and experienced players i don’t want to have a condiwarrior or a healer ele on my team. i expect everybody to know the recent tactics how to fight bosses and what to skip and i expect them to execute it without fail.
anybody that does not fit into that group i would kick without comment if there still would be instance ownership. because that’s not the case i seek for other players with a similar mindset that do not hesitate to kick random players in order to form a proper party. that’s why i seek people playing pure meta because there’s a high chance to find people with that mindset.
i have a limited time to play each day (not even every day, sometimes i can’t for days) and with the goals i have set (basically skins that i want to unlock and use for specifically created outfits) and the necessity for gold they bring with them i have no time to res some condibearbow 10 times during a bossfight. if i want to do an ac fullrun and you can’t dodge kohler 99% of the time (that 1% is reserved for when your house is on fire or you’re having a stroke at this moment) and do not know the most efficient strategies for each encounter i need 2 other players to kick you fast and without a debate.
that’s the reason why i resort to those elitist kittens on lfg and why i’m happy they exist.

Gw2 hard drive usage

gw2 uses up to 25 gb space. however, write operations on ssds actually damage the disk which results in a memory loss over time. regular updates mean that there will be a loss of memory capacity while the game at the same will only get bigger (especially with the expansion coming soon) which is why i’d suggest you count in some extra space (5-10gb) in for gw2 if you want to use the disk over several years.

this way it’s way easier then coordinating two people running at the right time since the right path is slightly longer than the left one.

@ vayne: yet still you don’t understand that this is not about popularity but about viability in high end gameplay. an ambitious pvp player doesn’t care if 10 billion scrubs like kitten ing around in the open world with their bearbows.
engineer is probably the least popular profession in the game yet i’d rather have one engineer than two rangers on my team.

I understand that I’ve done all the content in this game on a ranger. That’s what I understand.

have you also done that content as one of the best? i doubt it since as ranger you simply can’t.

Also to add, unless your bar is full of cleanses, condi ranger is pretty kitten deadly and has plenty of cc. Soooooo I dunno what condi rangers you’re fighting…

i would like you to name me those ccs. and those better be hard cc because i can cleanse through immob.

to all the bearbow hippies out there complaining about this thread: this is a legit question and you don’t even let it sink in because you’re all up in arms because you’re kitten that your favorite class gets criticized.
this is not about you and how much you like to play him, this is about facts, numbers and comparison to other classes. not popularity, not fun, not preference.
just the simple question: if playing in a world tournament or even just esl tournament or even attempting to break a new speedclear record would you as a top player (not you random pve kitten s) pick ranger over anything else.
and the answer is no, high end players don’t play ranger.
AGAIN: if you like playing ranger, gtfo. this is a topic for those that play at maximum efficiency disregarding the class or personal preferences and it’s about why ranger isn’t picked at all compared to other classes by exactly those people (meaning: not you).

the answer to ops question is: yes, ranger is easy ranged pewpew but not viable in any high end gameplay.

@ vayne: yet still you don’t understand that this is not about popularity but about viability in high end gameplay. an ambitious pvp player doesn’t care if 10 billion scrubs like kitten ing around in the open world with their bearbows.
engineer is probably the least popular profession in the game yet i’d rather have one engineer than two rangers on my team.

no, i just cleanse, cc and kill since a condiranger does not stack up enough pressure for me to not be able to easily get rid of those conditions since they are not many and herefore easily removed. close to zero cc to keep me from healing or cleansing and all the skills are so highly telegraphed that i’d actually just dodge or block them. for a condiranger to effectively apply condis they need another control class to keep their targets from dodging.

@vayne: it’s a very small percentage, i’d bet it’s not more than 10%. apart from me not playing with scrubs because i lack the patience for that even if somebody doesn’t care that rangers are bad they’re still bad. perception doesn’t change a fact. just because you have sunglasses on doesn’t mean the world is suddenly darker objectively.

wait, so first you’re talking about pve, where ranger is completely useless and thief is just a skipmachine (i’m not talking about open world since that can be easily done even with a naked character) and then you’re switching to pvp, where ranger is a long range noobstomper and a free kill for anybody that knows what they do.
there is a reason rangers are not in any kind of meta.
pve: thief does way more damage and that in melee. people hate ranged in pve for a reason. thief enables you to skip while ranger (or his pet) enables you to break aggro.
pvp: i can’t think of a class that has any problems with rangers. the only way for rangers to deal damage in pvp is if you ignore them. one pull, one reflect, one gapcloser, a tiny bit of control and byebye bowdude.

it’s not about what you like, aurora, or your roleplay phantasies it’s about (numerical and mechanical) facts.
gameplay and fun doesn’t matter when it comes to efficiency and numbers.

what the goals for ranger were i don’t know. i guess you had to have that class since it is a classic one in nearly every rpg (the usual treehugger with bow and pet). i have never played one since they have always been subpar.

just stand there, cleanse condis and throw grenades at them until they die. or press corrupt boons. or stack and cover confusion, shortly after they switched back from water.

I think it would be too much effort on Anets part to make GW1 free to play…it’s unfortunate but true.

i fear the same. they wouldn’t want to bother to deal with it. although they recently even introduced some new stuff (balthasar weapons and an event).

making gw1 free to play would require two people working for about a day i would guess. that doesn’t sound like much but i’m not sure anet would be willing to shell out this time and workforce.

i guess you are one of those people that dislike Gw2 being f2p in general?
i will ignore any naysayers that don’t actually bother to post any arguments. This will spare everyone the same discussion that is going on in every single thread in this forum.
If there’s a reason for Gw1 not to become f2p i would request another point than “i don’t like it, i paid for it 20 years ago and i feel entitled to compensation QQ”.

Since Gw2 Base became f2p now why not do the same to Gw1? I would assume the sales from Gw1 are very insignificant by now and it would serve as another source of advertising.
I bought both games myself (Gw1 even 6 or 7 times) so it’s not something i would profit from directly. But as the far newer product which made more revenue is kinda f2p now i think making Gw1 f2p would be another step towards a bigger audience in general.
Obviously i don’t know if there are any restrictions to marketing GW1 (possibly resistance from Ncsoft?) but i would like to start a discussion about this since to me it only makes sense.
Similar restrictions than in Gw2 could be placed on those account in order to prevent overbearing botting.

I bought GW2 long ago and now it's free

bullkitten. what you payed for was the guild wars as it was 3 years ago. living story, new areas, fractals, new world bosses and other stuff you got for free.
f2p players get way more than you got for the full price of the game. are you upset because somebody that bought the game in the beginning of 2015 got much much more than you got back in 2012? get real bro
