The maps already have a lot of waypoints.

Actually, the new maps haven’t. There is a definite trend towards fewer waypoints. I have no idea why they would think this is a good idea.

Unless they were perhaps thinking of adding mounts.

leaks say they will add mounts. leaks are probably correct. this is just a shady way to push their mount sales.

they cost whatever per account or not the currency i need for buying the things that are actually meant to be the rewards for this map. per account or not, it’s a fact that i’ll have 40 less of the things i got on the other maps for stuff on the other maps with waypoints i didn’t have to buy. the other ls maps are quite kitten when it comes to waypoints but nothing compares to this disaster.

now i have to decide between map rewards and waypoints when it comes to spending the map currency? are you kittening mental? what’s next? “you can unlock this waypoint/heart/PoI/vista for only 50 gold for your whole account! what a bargain!”

one per section per layer and that would mean we need about three times as many as we got.

and the ones we’ve got need to bought with time gated kitten that we also need for map rewards. as far as i’m concerned we got one single waypoint.

it’s kittening annoying having to run all over the new maps again and again. if at least you could get anywhere without circling the map twenty times it wouldn’t be as bad but with every map having a million layers some waypoints would be really appreciated.
i know you’re planning to introduce mounts (according to leaks) but that’s no reason to make everything annoying by having to kittening run instead of double click.

if the xpac maps are as similar to the living story maps as hot was to sw and the other one (you know, the dead one nobody remembers) i guess i’ll pass. i don’t have time to spend hours just pressing W to get from a to b.

yeah yeah yeah unlock those kittening points with some kitten you need to spend some other kitten on. that’s just cheap content streching. just put the kittening points there and spare me the waiting kitten.

that’s because engineer gets sword as next weapon. in order to make engineer players miserable (which is 99% of why gw2 exists) they’re removing effects from all of their legendaries. since they’ll be getting sword next (according to leaks) they had to remove the swords effects since if they didn’t they would let have engineers something nice and we can’t have that, can we?

you’re playing wrong. what you need to do is farm lvl 80 asap (with tomes, the wvw farm map, etc) then farm ascended gear and then farm raids and t4 fractals and tarir multiloot (for gold with which you buy anything you need) until you are in full legendary gear. then you uninstall.

Buying from sites not supported by anet is legit as far as you accept, that in this case only the site you purchased from is responsible for your purchase and some of those sites DO scam and you’ll have to rely on user reviews to make your choice.

however, those sites are also a good way to buy cheap gemcards IF you chose a legit site. those people usually buy those cards in places with low prices and a low value currency (f.e. russia, some asian states) so they can resell it cheaper than anet or their distributors sell gems and still make profit.

just make sure you use a site that has a decent reputation and accept that this wqay the possibility to be scammed is ALWAYS existent.

i’ve had 1-2 leavers and/or afkers in my last 6 matches. in 8 out of 13 matches in total. can we have some more severe punishment than 20 seconds of not being able to que?

Do you ever see pro league players like Helseth and sindrener going on huge loss streaks?

No, because they have high enough initial mmr to not be matched with complete potatoes. skill is a factor, yet. do you think helseth or sind can carry a match where one dude left, another one is afk at spawn while raging and you’re 3v5 with a hammer/staff guardian and a vanilla zerk ranger that only autoattacks and #5s?
if one of them can, i will worship him as god of guildwars forever.

He already did that on stream. He paired up with amber players in some previous season and carried a complete trash tier MMR game with ease where everyone was just plain bad and he could win 1v3s

that’s not what i’m talking about. i can also win 1v3s, definitely not as regular and not against any mix of 3 classes but every now and then it happens. i’m talking about 2 people from your team not participating in the match AT ALL. and i’ve seen the videos, he was using them as proxies, telling them what to do when they made extreme mistakes. i wonder how they would have fared left on their own.

Also, please keep in mind that i’m not saying that people can’t get where they belong. All i’m saying is that if you get unlucky you will have to put in a lot more work into getting where you belong.
my suggestion is to stretch out placement over more matches to somewhat dilute the factor of luck. 20-25 matches, perhaps even 30 should be enough for only the (un)luckiest people get placed far from where they belong. not exactly where they belong, but somewhat in the neighborhood.

very pretentious claim to make imo. i have 2 accounts in plat myself (just somewhat slightly outside of top 250 with ~1740 and ~1690) and one in bronze at 930.
you can carry 3 thieves that backstab and die vs 4 trapper dh only if you can cap and hold two points at once 1v3. leavers, afkers and so on don’t make the job easier. that’s why placement is a dice roll.
also i’m sure i can easily get my bronze account at least into high gold within a week. however, why should i play all those horrid games when i can use one of my smurfs to play decent matches?
i’m not unhappy tho. my bronze account is my pve account anyway, which should make it easier to farm pips.

It is impossible to give players a somewhat accurate rating without a big enough sample size. So it is not surprising that there can be quite a big difference between accounts of the same player after a few games. It is not optimal, but how do you want to change it without causing other issues?

That goes for everyone. Everyone’s win/losses will place them in the right bracket. Even people who consider themselves better won’t always be the better player on their team. Those better players will then feel like they’re being hindered. It’s just the way cookie crumbles. It’s better to worry about one’s own contribution than to worry about the rest of the groups contribution. No one will be the better player on every team they join, for many reasons. But over time, and over many matches, you’ll end up at the skill level bracket you belong in. I think the issue is that people want to play the blame game. “You guys didn’t do this or that.” Instead of saying, “We could have done this different or better.” These same people don’t want to play with the people they think they can blame their losses on. But then, you will be a reason for someone to blame a loss on you.

you forget the difference in time investment that is needed for people who get the short end of the dice roll. sure, they will end up where they belong but it may take them several hundred games more than somebody who won the dice roll (and perhaps even ranked down after that).

i rolled the dice three times this season. i have one account in t1 plat, 1 in t3 gold and one in t3 bronze. i guess i am far worse when playing the same character with exactly the same build on another account, must be a psychological thing. sure, if i play all accounts a lot, i will probably end up somewhere in t2-t3 gold with all of them. the difference is that with one i have only to lose a few games, with one i have to win a few games and with one i have to quit my job, get a catheter and iv drip and play 24/7 until i’m 80 years old. all based on if someone in my team thought the beginning of the match was a good time to make coffee or just leave the match, somebody thought if you cap close with 4 people it might go faster or somebody thinking he can take on 4 people at mid alone and so on.

My ranked team just disbanded because why would we play unranked? Thanks, Anet, great decision, having less ranked teams is exactly what pvp needed.
You could have fixed the matchmaking, you could have split team- and soloq, you could have done a lot of things. But that would have required effort. Instead, let’s just BAN teams from ranked, that will solve the problem. It did. Teams are gone, people are angry, some of which i haven’t seen log in since the changes.
You fixed ranked as much as the nuke fixed hiroshima.

PS: everything else is plain amazing. open rating, rewards, hell i even kinda enjoy skyhammer now which is a kittening miracle. but this one thing is the dealbreaker to me. i have a policy of “party of 5 or no party”. i don’t play with randoms, i don’t play without teamspeak. which for me this season means i don’t play period (I’m gonna do the placement matches to see where i land and that’s probably it).

i would bet someone is hoarding quite a few. with “quite a few” i mean 15-20 per person perhaps. i wouldn’t be surprised if there are still more than 100 jetpacks stored away in banks or storage characters.
i guess if someone would make an order for an outrageous price this person would get it.

that said, i’m all for making the jetpack more common. in general because i’m not a kitten that begrudges others stuff but also for a specific reason. i’m a jetpack owner myself and i have advocated for a long time for making it a glider skin as well. making it more common, hell even putting it in the gemshop would drastically increase the chances of that.

depends on if you care about the story or not. if you don’t just start grinding out the jungle, if you do, finish your story thing first, then buy season two and play it or alternatively read up on season 1+2.
i don’t know of any guide but i imagine you should find something in the depth of the internet.

while i encourage individual build making unfortunately engineer only has 1-2 builds that are good enough to be able to compete with the 1-2 builds every other class has.
we live in dark days when it comes to build diversity.

Hi, may I ask for fotm, do engi go viper too? And if viper build, we must learn the rotation right? any generic or specific rotations? Like burn first followed by bleed etc. Kinda lost about this.

both are fine in fotm. viper give you more dps but i personally prefer zerk for more utility you can change on the fly. in many situations having the right utility (reflect, stun for breakbars, etc) is imo more valueable than dps. highly min maxed specialized fotm groups are excluded from that but in those there usually is no place for an engineer anyway.
and yes, not only for condi but for engineer in general you should learn and internalize the rotations. missing even one cd on even one or two of your dps skills really shows in overall dps. this is especially important for burning-applying skills with condi engi.
as already said before it’s best to find a rotation on your own, that you can pull off instinctively. while this might not give you the “perfect” dps it will come closer to it than tryharding something you can’t pull off. that “perfect” 64-step rotation on metabattle was scrapped for a reason.

@xyonon: while that’s somewhat true you can most raids with condi but on the other hand some you can’t do with power due to the dps discrepancy. given you have only resources for one armor set for raids i would prefer viper first and zerk second.

you guys forgot the main reason gw1 is as amazing as it is: there is over 1300 skills distributed over 10 classes (which you all can use as a secondary class) + pve skills that allow you to theorycraft and build whole teamcomps (with real players or heroes) to come up with MANY different strategies to get through the content.
for me the best thing in gw1 was putting together and synergizing all possible 64 (8 skills x 8 players) skills towards specific content.

I personally find the system OK as an in game player. Every person I’ve spoken to about joining the game or playing beyond the PS has baulked at buying the seasons in between.

I don’t really know what the answer is, since I’m OK with the system (well I’m used to it now, so it doesn’t bother me is more accurate), but I’m a dedicated player so my perspective is different and biased. The current model, does seem to be offputting to new players. I guess only Anet will know how offputting since they have the metrics for purchasers.

For ref to the OP – Anet stated that each previous expac would be included for free with the purchase of the new expac as well as core.

that’s an important information i didn’t know. if the expacs include previous expacs then the price would be a lot less offputting. i’m biased myself regarding this, since as an active player i get the living story for free anyway but i try to put myself in the shoes of people who don’t.

that’s not the point, tho. i was talking about the money investment IF bought with gems bought with money. a new player may not have the gold or not want to spend his gold on the living story and would rather be incentivized to buy some gems to get it.

recently i’ve tried to convince some people to check out gw2 and while they were surprised they could get the core game for free when purchasing the expansion (not f2p with the limitations) they were reluctant when i told them they had to buy the living world seasons seperately as they obviously weren’t around.

therefore i would suggest lowering the price of those with time. like any dlc from other games drops in price over time the older living story seasons should see a price drop. i thought about the whole thing and indeed those seasons might be a reason for somebody to not decide playing guild wars because of fractured content that has to be bought seperately. however, i do like the system very much as it is, it’s very generous anyway but i would like to see some more incentives for players to actually purchase them as new players when the seasons are already a bit … well .. seasoned

that could be something like a price drop of 20%-30% once a new season is released or finished (f.e. season 3 would make season 2 cheaper) until they at some point fade out into being very cheap in a distant future (f.e. 4 years from now season 2 would cost pennies). that thought came to me when i realized that over time as more seasons are released the price for the complete package goes up and up. perhaps in a few years (and i hope very much gw2 is still thriving in a few years) it might already cost quite a sum. this depends on how pricing is done with the new expansions but an example:

4 years from now, expansion every 2 years, expansions have to be bought and every expansion gives the core game for free (i don’t expect anet to make a previous expansion f2p once a new one is released), perhaps with a slight price drop on the previous expansion:
HoT, let’s say 25$
expansion 2, let’s say 35$
newest expansion 50$
season 2: 18$
season 3: 18$
season 4: 18$
season 5: 18$

that would accumulate to 164$ if would want the whole package at once.
i could see how that could discourage somebody from wanting to start the game late into it’s life cycle.
while a cumulative price drop on the seasons and bundle deals with the expansions (“buy the new expansion now and get the last season for free”) wouldn’t cut that much into what anet could earn from them (let’s be honest, most people playing get them for free and at least in my assumption the amount of veterans is far larger than that of new people) but portray a picture (i don’t wanna say give the illusion) of the game being slightly less heavy priced when we consider future releases.

f.e. with a price drop of 20% per new season when season 5 is released the prices would look like that:
season 4: 14.4$ (instead of 18)
season 3: 11.5$
season 2: 9.2$

with 30%:
season 4: 12.6$
season 3: 8.8$
season 2: 6.1$

while this would still accumulate to 145$ (or 138$ @ 30%) and the overall price drop for the whole package would be around 10-15% the individual price of the seasons in the gemstore would be much more inviting to purchase them and may convince new players to actually go for older seasons which might not be as relevant any more.

i agree very much that gw2 has a tad of p2w. however, that’s something that i actually want in the game. on one side ideologically no p2w whatsoever is always something i cherish and hold up high but on the other side with my limited play time i wouldn’t get anything done without every now and then investing in gems -> gold.
i think gw2 has struck a very good balance. especially because the transaction goes both ways and 24/7 grinders can theoretically also have all the gemstore shinies.
obviously you could agrue that anything is p2w that gives you any kind of advantage in a game but i think most people would consider purchasable progress a “minor p2w” instead of flat out strength advantage.

i don’t want to post a long reply on every single point or lay down my own experience with the game over the last few years but there is a theme that jumps at me from your post which i think i have an at least decent answer to.
while there may not exist any kind of real competitiveness in gw2 i think many of your frustrations could be solved by finding a fitting guild. pugging is generally a somehow frustrating experience in gw2. having a team of people you are used to playing with makes all the difference. since you have 4 guild slots available you can have several teams specialized for any kind of content.
also gw2 might not be fitting you in general as a hardcore player in the long run. here you have the advantage of not having any monthly costs so you can just take a break if things feel stale and check in once content you would like to play is released. much of the content is story driven tho so if you’re not interested in that a lot of content in gw2 might not agree with you.
still, i would suggest you look for a guild that fits your needs and see if changes your experience.

i don’t think adding “districts” would be that difficult.
you would simply need a function to read and display the maps that are already open (perhaps even exclude those that are being closed due to low population) and a function similar to “join person X” (which i assume is a “read persons X map, store in Y” + “join Y” kinda of function) to switch between the instances. writing such a thing shouldn’t take long and although integrating that into the existing system might take longer i would expect a team of 2 programmers not to need longer than a month.
but then again i have no experience in programming computer games since my field of work has more to do with numerical programming and scientific simulations so correct me if i’m wrong.

and although i don’t have any concrete knowledge about the server systems anet is running i can’t think of a server architecture that would prevent such functions from the top of my head. a list of the available maps must be centrally stored somewhere regardless of server architecture and if there isn’t a mechanism in place that would block a read operation on purpose i see no reason why that should be difficult at all.

i agree with anet regarding armor and weapons tho. those tasks would take a lot of time, especially the weapon overhaul and would be imo not worth the huge amount of work they require.
