99% of the players ignore every kind of advice if you don’t use the sledgehammer-to-face method since they think after 2 won games in hotjoin on skyhammer they are the pinnacle of skill.

if people don’t play properly in ranked they need to be punished and the only way to do that in this game is verbally. if you could report people for playing badly (and get them banned from ranked for a time) nobody would need to rage verbally.
bad players in ranked ruin my game experience, why do i have to put up with that? if you join ranked at least have the decency to have some skill and knowledge about how to play a class/map. nobody wants clueless casuals on their pvp team when competing for a lb-ranking.
that said, unranked and hotjoin are freed from this expectation completely.

How exactly is that thread insulting or abusive?.

he needs to maximize the qq for compensating being a bad player. it has a positive psychological effect on him so just leave it …

ideally everybody should have the complete knowledge about the content they are playing before they play it. i expect perfection from every other player without my interference or help. i think that’s something you can and should ask for from a decent human being. 99% of players tend to be a disappointment, though.

wall of text of which close to 100% simply sounds like a l2p-issue.
i’ve read some similar topics recently and i don’t even… i try to wrap my had around it but srsly …. whaaaat?
1. my last map completion from 0%->100% took less than a week. i wasn’t even playing much. if you play like 10 minutes a day, well it’s gonna take you some time but around 1/3 of the areas you can finish within half an hour.
2. you already have a great stat-advantage with lvl 80 exotics. those don’t get downscaled that much. except for lvl 80 maps you literally cut through armies of enemies while just running forwards and pressing autoattack. i don’t get how that can be difficult for you. especially the content you are describing could be played blindly by just pressing random buttons with your toes while your hands are tied behind your back.

i sorry for you that it’s so tough for you but from an average point of view 95% of this games content is so stunningly easy that my cat could probably do it if i teach it where to put it’s paws.

i prefer corner because it maximizes hits from ice bow and meteor (which is quite a lot of dmg) and as engineer i can freely use my knockbacks and stuff (bob, turret, shield) for blasts and not interfere with other peoples rotations. however, on some bosses i prefer to have the freeze. depends on how much time it takes to take down the boss.
f.e. in ac i would never think about any corner since by the time you got him into the corner you could have also killed him.

i play either rabid or carrion with zero (in numbers: 0) additional power and can kill all turrets except for thumper in around 10-15 sec with grenades. thumper is a tough one, i give you that but the others shouldn’t be a problem.

the matchmaking as it is would probably work if there weren’t only a handful of people playing ranked.
either you team up with people (been farming scrubs with near to clueless friends that play pve only) and get blowout matches in your favor or you get those scrubs into your team and will get steamrolled by any team that knows what the shiny buttons left and right to your healthbubble actually do. there are 5-7 teams with high mmr that play by themselves (after 3 am you occasionally get to play against them with your average-rank-5-pug against them, what a joy), the rest has given up. as it seems/from what i’ve heard even those people get matched with clueless aa-heroes when they play solo. the rest has simply given up i guess. either playing other games or farming dailies in private arenas then back to pve/wvw.
i’ve seen everything by now. recently i killed 3 people by myself as bunker while on another occasion i have seen 4 of my teammates being slaughtered by a thief and engineer. neither was fun.

i made a thread about a requirement for playing ranked as it exists in nearly any competitive game nowadays (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Playing-ranked-should-have-requirements/first#post4746764) but i am well aware that this would cut the population of people playing ranked by around 95%.

what anet doesn’t seem to understand is that big tournaments aren’t what makes esport esport. atm there is no playerbase. there are a few good teams that dominate the tournaments and that’s it. nobody cares about lederboarsd since everyone knows that it basically comes down to farming noobs to get to the top under the new system which makes it impossible for people with less time investment (even if highly skilled) to climb the lb. unranked is still somehow populated but mostly with clueless dudes getting farmed by premades on courtyard. the big lb and pvp overhaul made it actually a lot worse than it helped.
all hope is gone.
all is vain.
accept and move on.

sd dmg varies depending on the tb skill. because the animation also varies that could give the impression that predator shots do more dmg. however, the dmg is only dependent on the tb skill used.

in pvp gs is, if ever, used for mobility only. what travels my thoughts for quite some time would be projectile block/reflect on 100b. this would make it a somehow´useful support weapon.

but whatevs, as engineers we have the luck to have some highly variable basic builds. i completely agree with most of them being viable and strong.

yes, i know. ip is triggered by int sigil (i don’t use geomancy and this way i have at least some control over it), although it’s not even needed because 9% are enough to trigger ip (4% base + 5% from firearms). and the dmg from sharpshooter is meaningless if you actually calculate how much it does on average. i wouldn’t go for crit chance just to proc ss. maybe with 75-80%+ critchance but not around 50%.

i’m not talking about rank being the requirement since it’s worthless as an indicator for skill.
i don’t know which value you could use as requirement since the whole system seems kaput at it’s very base. since it’s been redone twice with only minor improvements in some parts (and major decline in others) i’m not sure it’s something that can be fixed without a hell of a lot of work. it’s a predicament, i hope anet can break it one day somehow.

without ferocity i prefer doing higher base damage than hoping for random crits and due to horrible condiremoval a higher base hp seems worth more than defense since i can dodge/block direct damage therefore carrion. but both is fine imo.

Recently is started playing Heroes of the Storm Beta and noticed that to play a ranked match you have to be at least lvl30 which actually takes quite a bit of work. After reaching it and doing a few ranked matches i was in heaven. people would play properly, nobody would make mistakes you expect from someone that can’t tie his own shoes (such people were the majority in unranked) and even if you lost you felt some kind of accomplishement, a good play here, a nice combo there. I have played several games where ranked play was locked behind some kind of requirement and all those games were highly enjoyable in ranked.
in gw2 on the other side even if i win i feel like i lost. yes, sometimes me and maybe another halfway decent player can carry the three other scrubs to a 450-500 or so but half of the match you’re just boiling while people do the most idiotic things.
i am talking about no sense for basic rotations (mid capped, close is lost but free, hey, let’s go die at far), secondary mechanics (3 people rush lord right at the beginning, 4 people kill beast even before capping close, ignore the buffs on temple and so on) or even basic gameplay (i saw 3 people cap a point just now, what also made me write this post. and i mean it literally: al of them were standing on point through the whole capping process). i think knowing how the secondary mechanic on the map, hell the primary mechanic on ALL maps and your own skillset works should be something i can ask for in competitive pvp. yet at least half of the people i get matched with don’t.

why not put ranked behind a requirement that ensures that you don’t have to play with complete scrubs when competing for a ranking on a leaderboard? the rewards are the same and people can farm their dailies (those who actually bother to play for dailies and don’t just do them within the guild in pa) and reward tracks in unranked.
i know by myself that my mmr is not actually the highest (that’s because i’m mediocre as a player at best) and i recently got my old mesmer out so that plays into it somehow after lb reset but i am sick and tired of being paired up with complete morons from which you can tell after the first 10 seconds of the match that it’s already lost and who (as everyone does but also can if you know how to play) completely ignore any kind of help in form of information i am willing to give.
nope, i can’t play with a team because i have highly irregular online times. i also don’t really get where that whole situation comes from. around half a year ago it wasn’t nearly as bad, what happened?
i am losing 90% of my matches although i know i am better than at least half of the players that are steamrolling my team. there is no point for new players to compete in ranked and as i see it there’s no point for me (playing pvp on a mediocre level meaning the lower end of the lb for almost 2 years) to play with them. i don’t really understand why ranked is free for everybody to play, having some kind of requirement for it seems to be standard in srs pvp games. this may come from not having a league system which also seems standard.

however, i’ll stop whining now since i guess this idea has been brought up thousands of times and nothing will happen anyway because anet has it’s own twisted idea of “competition”. i hope there will be a system that makes pvp worthwhile some day in the future. until then there are other options that actually don’t give me a gastric ulcer and psychocancer even if i win.

what sense does a specialization make if there’s no choice? to specialize means that you focus on a single set of something amongst multiple.
with only one specialization it’s actually more something like a class-“expansion”, since everyone will have the same. but i guess we’ll get another one in another 2 years…

by that i guess you mean the completely op stats you have in wvw due to pve gear. sure, it’s nice to have 50%+ critchance at 200% ferocity while still maintaining 3k toughness but it’s not competitive. wvw has the worst balance i have seen in years due to that and i would not wish this upon any competitive pvp format. not even talking about stat combinations that fist any tiny bit of balance that’s left to death.
also most pvp players don’t want to bother grinding pve gear. it’s fine as it is. pvp get’s a new gamemode and the wvw crowd can zerg and roflstomp each other to oblivion.
wvw is only good for leveling new toons if you’re not good enough to farm the tomes in pvp. it has nothing to do with srs pvp.

lorewise an engineer is most probable to be a charr since the profession originated from the iron legion. on the other hand it spread out to all playable races so you can choose as you wish. keep in mind, tough, that charr are the master race and all others are mere peasants in the face of the feline glory.

and here we are again, going round and round.
in a teamfight those turrets won’t last. yes, you can place the rocket-turret outside the reach of aoe (which will destroy any turret in reach in seconds) but that alone is not gonna do much. turrets are immobile and too easily destroyed (even traited), especially in teamfights. without any kind of utility, especially a panic button for when you’re focused and out of dodges or immobilized (tk#4, elixir s, shield#5) you’re an easy target for any two players (or one single burster) that decide to kill you.
about blowing cds: blowing a cd is a very small price for killing a player. yes, i’ll blow my stability but in turn you’re dead, good deal for me. also the same argument works the other way round: i have teammates, too. so while you sacrificed yourself for one or two utilities on cd my teammates (including me) now overpower your teammates and get the cap.
but let’s stop with theorycrafting since this is getting us nowhere. i guess you’ll have to experience it for yourself once you get to play against stronger opponents. i’m not telling that this build is crap but it’s a crutch a lot of weak/bad players rely on which on the other side holds you back significantly once you reach a certain point skillwise.
it might do it’s job in unranked and low-mmr-ranked against opponents that are overwhelmed by the amount of cc you can dash out but any decent player (with exception of some thief- and necro-specs) will have no problems fisting that build so hard your chin will fall of if you allow the metaphor.
it’s up to you finding out once you get to play against people that actually count dodges, cds and invertals instead of blindly running into that, admittedly, pit of cc-hell without any kind of counterstrategy. if you, on the other hand, are fine with farming the lower end of the playerpool without much effort this build is teh kitten.
if we would return to the basis of the thread: it’s the weak players that rage against the mach… this build (or engineer as a whole class, like they did with warrior some months ago) because they don’t know how to handle the cc. decent players don’t rage, they’re actually quite pleased fighting 5v4,5.
regarding turrets in pve: i lold so hard i nearly kitten myself. no offense.

that’s not hate, that’s my experience from playing ranked. turret engis do have some advantages over some specs but on average this build is performing badly against any kind of half-decent ranged spec or anybody with stunbreaks/stability/evades. stance warrior barely gets scraped before the engi dies to conditions or is taken out by cc himself. ele destroys the turrets before he’s even half through with blasting might. grenade engineer can simply either kill the turrets from range or take out the turret-engi with condis from afar. zerk- or condi-mesmer can easily kill a turret engineer without coming near his turrets. and that’s just the classes i play and i’m not exactly the pinnacle of skill. while turret engi in fact is very good at keeping you off the point he’s easily killed which makes him nothing more but a mediocre staller since you can just cap afterwards. not even talking about wrecking any turret engi that is moving between points and unable/unwilling to drop his turrets offpoint.
from what i have heard from other engi-players and can confirm myself from experience (i main engi since the beginning of time) is that the turret build has a low skill ceiling and can be outplayed quite easily once you know how the build works (merely counting the intervals between turret attacks and the cds of the turret skills as well as knowing the animations mixed with a single stunbreak for when you miscounted gives you an advantage over this build that the turret engi can’t overcome) since you’re dependant on the ai in the end and ai can be easily outplayed.
edit: i am not talking about builds that utilize a turret but about full-turret-builds that horribly lack utility.

actually there are more people playing gw1 than i would have expected when i recently revisited the game for teh lols. at prime time i even could play Hoh.
but i guess for playing the story/missions and vanquishing and stuff like that you’ll need heroes.
So either you play with henchmen (they got their builds updated at some point, so they mostly run metabuilds, still you can’t actually make a specific teambuild) and experience the story chronologically, or you break the chronology and get at least a few heroes from Nightfall and Eotn. Even doing the Tutorial in both will get you a reasonable amount of heroes.
Also if you’re not willing to spend money on skills you can get a good amount of those in the first campaign through quests. also check the wiki a lot, i guess. the knowledge how stuff works and which skills enemies use and how to counter them and how to build synergies within your own team is probably the single most important thing in the game.

Spoiled? Really? Since when does Ascended = Fractals only? oh right, it doesn’t. Infusions, since those are mostly worthless outside the gimmick called agony resist? Sure. But Ascended in general? Nope. Just because Ascended items were introduced with Fractals doesn’t mean that is where they belong.

no, it means that fractals are what ascended gear was made for (apart from the generic-mmorpg-crowd that won’t shut up as long as they don’t get that carrot on a stick every few months or so). i don’t get the whining about fractals. up to level 20 most fractals (yes, there are a few tougher ones, f.e. volcanic aka the pug killer) are even easier than a good part of the dungeons. if you’re not willing to play content required for something that is, at least partially, designed for that content, then you’re just not supposed to have that particular item. you need to play 3-5 (depends on if you wait for daily or not) level ~10 fractals. i don’t think that is too much to ask for for a ascended backpiece given the alternatives (at some point the only asc backpiece was the fractal capacitor, i wonder how much you would have cried back then).
lemme guess, you’re the type of guy that tries to order a vegetarian steak and rages and cries if he’s not able to get it.
tl:dr: not willing to play some fractals for mawdrey? you don’t deserve it, you won’t have it. go cry by yourself, nobody cares.
