Hi there, Rachel!
I’m a bit late to the party but I’d still like to present Cloud of Sparrows to you – we’re a small guild focused on creating a family-like environment for newbies and veterans alike. Our main focus is on the PvE aspect of the game although you’ll find out that many of our members are actively participating in PvP and WvW too.
A large portion of the players in the guild are either ex-members of hightier PvE and WvW guilds or very experienced and familiar with the game, the best part is that we want to pass on that knowledge to the rest and help everyone who needs assistance or wants to become better at the game.
If that sounds good enough, feel free to check out our recruitment message on here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS/first or whisper me in-game for additional information.
Best wishes,
Winter
Since Ani has been so kind to us, we made sure to provide a sufficient amount of cake for them to try it out on their own
Also, bump back to first page!
Since I don’t have rank 80 and this has been pointed out on this thread, I’m not sure if it really is forced 50% win rate, bad luck or lack of the so called experience and skill.
I hit Ruby from Amber with my game number 100, at that point I had 57 wins. Tonight I reached Diamond and my win rate has melted from the 57% down to 50%, as you can see on the screenshot attached to this message.
While personally I enjoyed climbing the divisions, Ruby felt like hell on Earth. I already posted another topic regarding it, but some games felt like complete blowouts before they even started, whether it’d be people refusing to switch to more useful classes, builds that proved to literally be useless or just being seemingly clueless of what’s happening around them.
I guess a big portion of that feeling is due to the fact that I only play a thief and ele in PvP, both of which, in my eyes, are largely dependent on your team actually having an idea what to do, but I can’t say that I haven’t had games where I have been queued up against parties of 4 or 5 people, as well as repeatably getting the same duo against us.
Either way, the fun from PvP for me was gone in Ruby, I hope Diamond would bring some of it back.
Hi there,
Not trying to flame, not trying to bash or anything, all I want is a simple explanation why MM seems to favor one team above the other, as well as why ludicrous parties are allowed to freely queue up for Ranked MM.
On the following couple of screen shots that are attached to this message, I’ve tried to capture examples where one team either gets utterly stomped or a ridiculous party MMR is in place. I’m not trying to find an excuse of my losses, I know I’m far from a good player, but I’m trying to become one and I’m trying hard to earn what I want, I continuously want to try and improve and when I make a costly mistake in-game I try to acknowledge it.
Wise person once told me “Don’t think of ranks and divisions, play for the fun of it”, I’ve tried to follow that advice but there’s no fun when you get a team of people who seem to be clueless of the encounters and what to do in general. Of course, I don’t try to judge – in some of my games I’ve been carried too, my team stomped hard as well, but this in no way would make me claim that MM is good, no team should get utterly stomped into the ground, regardless of whether I win or lose.
On Screenshot 1 – disregarding the fact that I was with a friend and we had another party of two against 4man stack, I’m rather more concerned why the other party was 2 guardians, with what would seem identical builds who just kept running mid trying to recapture it, only proceeding to die over and over again. How does a person who is in Diamond (assuming they perfectly well know what they are doing) would completely refuse to get some condi cleanse even though I exclusively mentioned it before the start of the game?
On Screenshot 2 – My only question is why is an Amber player in such a presumably high MMR party? I know they teamed up, I see that, but I don’t think that’s an excuse to allow people from all divisions to queue up and freely get matched with other people. I’m fine with people playing together, it’s a game and it’s for fun, but sometimes nonsense like this ruins the fun for the rest of the players.
On Screenshot 3 – This would be an example where one of the teams should presumably dominate the other one, or at least have a close game. However, as you can see, the result is way off any balance. So, are we too good for Ruby or the enemy team is too bad for Diamond? Or it’s neither of those but just players who were unlucky enough to be badly teamed up?
On Screenshot 4 – This is a follow-up to Screenshot 3 – one of the people in my team seemed completely clueless as where to go and what to do. I noticed that they multiple times ran to far into a 1v2 situation only to die and feed the enemy points. Another thing that happened not once but twice in that game is that the same person tried to kill their beast, the latter being at 100% hp, while two of the enemy players were obviously approaching from the point, of course proceeding to lose both the beast and their life.
I try to enjoy PvP and stay calm even in situations like those, I know I often get carried by my team myself, but when you get this happening in multiple games in a row, you start to wonder why does one of the teams always, or at least in most cases, seem to be much better than the other one?
Sorry for the wall of text, but I needed to vent this out and hopefully find some kind of an explanation beyond “omfg noob” that would actually make sense.
Thanks.
Hello everyone,
Since the races sub-forums are long gone, I’d like to use this thread as a way to communicate with other fellow lore lovers, especially the ones who are fascinated by the Charr, their history, traditions and ways of surviving the harsh world of Tyria. ^^
So, what got you into the charrs? What do you love about them and how do you see the legions expanding in the future? Rytlock has already won a name for us as a race and I think we can only further on build on it.
Once seen as harbingers of destruction and death, a race that had the power to destroy their own gods, only to rise as saviors of Tyria and put forth the biggest hero of them all – Rytlock Brimstone.
Jump in, legionnaires and cubs alike, for the legion! \o/
Rytlock!
15charrs
That’s amazing!! I’d totally wear one of those!
Charrs are just fine in my opinion. I think their posture is related to the fact that most of the time they are supposed to be walking on 4 feet so the weight is distributed across all four of them. Theoretically in my head, having them straighten up throughout the entire time on two legs would mean too much pressure on their spine, while leaning forward as it is right now, it allows them to quickly switch from 2 to 4 legs.
Also, I love the way they look, don’t touch my kitties.
You guys really avoid picking up guardian only because of the boon strip? Lol
I play with hammer even for the tougher encounters and yet somehow I don’t get my fields blasted.
Hey JT,
In case you haven’t already been “kidnapped” by the fellas over at the Divine Knights of Balthazar, allow me to quickly introduce Cloud of Sparrows to you!
We are a small bunch of folks that try and make our way in the world of Tyria – we do dungeons, fractals, got a fresh raiding roster recently, as well as some meta events in the Maguuma jungle.
We offer mentoring and you can always count on people who will be willing to help you out or give you tips on your class, build, tactics and so on. If that sounds good enough, you can check out our recruitment post here – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS/first , or just send me a message in-game
Best of luck,
Winter
I have received an order from our Tribune to bump this back to first page.
Also, we do still have cake.
Met Ani while doing Dragon Stand last night, extremely kind and sweet person, I’m sure you won’t regret giving their guild a go! \o/
In other words – we don’t care about “off-topic”
Heya gang,
I guess this has been suggested before but since the search on here doesn’t really work (must be made by an asura lol) and I’m too lazy to google it, I wonder what was the particular reason for the sub-forums related to each race to be removed?
People who know me also know that I love charrs and everything related to them – lore, skins, ideology, personal story etc. I’d personally love to talk with fellow charrs who are into the charr race just as much, however this would prove impossible considering the current organization of the forums. I admit I often browse the charr sub-forum that has been archived and it’s saddening to know I can’t reply to any of the topics.
I guess other people would feel the same way, other would not. Is there any possibility to bring back the sub-forums or at least provide an alternative?
Cheers,
Winter
Just passing by to say that Cynz is amazing <3 He gave me a lot of tips and tricks on thief gameplay back when I was just starting PvP. Huge kudos to you, buddy, keep it up! <3
Hey guys,
Nice to see more people jumping in and sharing their personal experience! I’m now halfway through Ruby since I originally posted the topic but it’s getting harder and harder in SoloQ and teams are starting to use more and more meta compositions and rotations which is a real challenge for my skill.
odstninja, now I feel a horrible thief because lately I’ve been facing a lot of DHs that just melt me, I even fear them now! lol
Sadly, pretty much every condi class is still a no-go for me. I mostly avoid 1v1 unless I see a good opening but even in such cases I have had moments where I’m being melted into the ground by some mesmer or necro (also kitten runes of the nightmare!)
emkelly, you said it’s hard for people to hit us which makes me think that maybe I’m messing up my rotation somewhere along the way because I get hit… quite often lol.
Also, engis hurt A lot.
Hello Leaf,
Please let me introduce Cloud of Sparrows to you – we are a small friendly guild with main orientation to PvE (dungeons, fractals, even new raid roster!), although you’ll see quite a couple of us doing PvP and WvW too.
Since you mentioned fractals, I think you’d be glad to know that we have members in all fractals tiers so daily parties for that are a must. Guild hall decoration is open to every member, we are not keen on just a handful of people having access to it – after all we all contribute to the Guild Hall in different ways.
If that sounds good to you, you can check out our recruitment message on here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS/first , or message me in-game for further information.
Best of luck,
Winter
I met two thieves with that build so far. First one caught me completely off-guard in Sapphire (I also main a thief) and destroyed me 1v1, second one was just tonight and rolled over him completely using Steal (daze trait), Basilisk Venom and timed Headshots (not all hit but one is enough to dash out a bit of damage). I wouldn’t say they are that OP. Easily countered, in my eyes, by an engi for example.
As for PvE d/d thief – backstabs all day. Especially after the rework of Lead Attacks.
You also have then faced 1 good thief and a bad one and that makes a difference.
Just like with any other class. Problem for thief is, you don’t have as much room for error, one CC, second CC, on the third one (if you are still alive) you are history.
So no, I main a thief, and I don’t agree with how OP people claim the build is.

I really wanted to refrain myself from posting an opinion on the Matchmaking system considering I’ve never been a PvP player and it may seem ignorant, but lately I’ve been questioning it a lot.
To start off, I already posted this on another thread, but I started doing PvP this season, therefore started in Amber. My first game was on my warrior since I wanted the title (Charr warrior, kind of fits the background) but after a miserable loss I thought about getting my thief. I’d say I was lucky so my game number 100 in Ranked PvP was in Tier 3 of Ruby. By that time I had 57 wins out of 100 games. It felt great, of course, but it’d be a lie if I say that I didn’t get carried in some of the games – some were games where we stomped the enemy, others we got stomped.
Anyhow, enough background. Ever since I hit Ruby I either get teams, parties, really good players or really bad ones. Example of that would be that the other night I had a couple of guys on the enemy team, we got stomped and right on the next game I was in their team and we stomped the enemy. Another example is that I had an elementalist that have never heard of Auramancer build before. Poor guy was running staff and barely finished with any points. I whispered him suggesting to check out the Auramancer build due to its assistance in team fights and he said that never before he knew about it.
Problem for me is that the MM only takes into account your pips. I come from a hardcore Dota 2 background where the MM in unranked game (they have points system for ranking) is taking in account a huge variety of factors – last hits, kills, assists, support, items used etc.
My question is, considering that upon the end of the game you get rank points for various things such as healing to allies, conditions applied, conditions removed, capping, decapping and so on, why aren’t things like those taken into account? I’m playing a thief, I might have spent the whole game trying to flip the points, assist in fights and intercept enemy players, while my team was engaging mid in 1v2 and 1v3 fights only to die and feed the enemy points – in my eyes, I tried hard to do what my role is best suited for, yet at the end of the game I lose a pip only because I’m largely dependent on other 4 people. In Dota 2, even if I lose but I played my role the way I had to, I have a pretty good chance to get an increase in my MMR and be placed in higher skill group. What’s stopping ANet from implementing this?
Sorry if my post sounds ignorant, it’s a personal experience in PvP so far.
Also, thanks a lot to Irrwin (Cynz) for giving me so many great thief tips a couple of days ago when I whispered him. People like you make the game a better place <3

(edited by winterchillz.2564)
It’s all the same on my side too. Started doing PvP just this season, got to Ruby in less than 100 games and now it’s just a never-ending roller-coaster. Only managed to get as far as halfway through Tier 3, then go de-ranked to Tier 1 and last night barely managed to fill up the pips of Tier 2 again.
Thanks a lot for the great tips, Agemnon!
I mostly try to avoid condi classes, I don’t bring condi cleanse with me so it’s either one-two-three shots bursts trying to kill them or I die on the way out of the fight (shame on me for still doing that).
I used to avoid Dragonhunters a lot in the beginning, once made the mistake to Steal on a peacefully standing DH, got insta-downed by the traps and I think I learned my lesson lol. Now I try to kite them, some of them use sword so they tend to blink on me, this is when I try to get them, away from their traps.
Necros, condi mesmers and condi warrs or DHs are my biggest pain in general, I can’t even get to try and burst properly, most of the time my hp is already halfway gone by the time I get to execute any rotation.
Engis I try not to engage on points, if I can make them chase me around the map while I have someone (de)capping, I just try to win my teammate some time and then disengage instantly unless I see an opening to take the engi down.
With rangers and revs, I don’t have that much experience, I usually don’t see them solo at far or close and I mainly join mid only for a couple of quick backstabs trying to help my team.
Again, thanks a lot for your tips
Stop using AP as a method to determine one’s skill already. Back when I had 3k AP I was already trying to solo some of the fractals, last night we pugged last spot for T4 and got a person with 21k AP who had absolutely zero idea what to do in the Snowblind fractal, AP judgement is not a reliable method unless the person has like less or equal to at least 1,5k and even in this case it’s not a guarantee that the person isn’t someone who knows their stuff.
And stop trying to control what other people are doing?? I mean, I find using AP stupid just like you and I would never put it in a LFG description, but I doesn’t mean that I should be a pain in the kitten to everybody that want to use the AP. It’s not a good system, but it can help clear a good portion of the bad player and that’s what the people using it are looking for. They don’t give a crap about cutting very good player with it. All they care is to make sure a good portion of less experienced players won’t join their group.
They can use the AP if they want, just like you can dislike it if you want. But don’t tell them to stop doing it.
Overreact much? Sorry I just shared my personal opinion phased in a way that sounds as if I try to “control” how people put up their LFGs. Frankly, I couldn’t care less how and why they do.
Hey fellow thieves,
A PvE player here that lately has been doing some ranked PvP with hopes of getting the Elite wings skin, I have a question that really bothers me lately.
I started off doing ranked PvP this season, therefore I started from the very bottom. Last night I secured the first tier of Sapphire and throughout the journey I’ve had quite a couple of people telling me in /w and /s that playing thief is cancer and I’m literally the worst.
I know thieves are annoying with our constant dazes, stealth and evades but why no one ever flames the Dragonhunters for example? I mean, for me the DH right now is the biggest crap I could face in PvP – they just drop their kitten ed traps in the middle of the point and there’s barely anything else they have to do but to pull you in them. My experience so far, and this might be solely based on the fact that I’m a PvP newb, has been beyond frustrating with some particular builds, especially DH.
So, why do we get so much hate when (in my opinion) there are so many more annoying builds? :c
Hey NosShark,
I’m also a founder of a small guild (currently sitting at like 25 members) and I completely feel your pain. I’m sorry you had such an encounter, people will be people, live and let live, don’t let the trolls get to you. You’ve already come a long way with your guild and I’m sure you’ll go ever further. I’m very sorry to hear about your friend but I’m confident that he’d be proud of what you are doing in-game to continue his legacy.
Stay strong, friend.

Hi Kevan!
It sounds like Cloud of Sparrows might be a good fit for you We are a small guild on the Seafarer’s Rest server with a mission to help both new players and veterans as much as well can. I’d say we do provide some knowledge, especially in PvE, so if that sounds good enough for a starting point, feel free to check out our recruitment message here – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS/first
Take care!
Winter
Please make the Shared inventory slot merge with the rest of the bags when you have the option to hide bags. This, or implement an option to have it on the same line. It’s extremely annoying to have so much empty space only because of one slot.
If your friend is on EU tell him to whisper me in-game, I’ll help him out with fractals.
Hello Claire,
Winter here I’m the founder of Cloud of Sparrows, a small friendly family-like guild on the Seafarer’s Rest server. We are mainly focused on dungeons and fractals, with an upcoming raiding roster, although you can also often see PvP, WvW and general open world parties being formed.
While the core of our members have been part of hightier PvE guilds in the past, we have dedicated ourselves to playing the way we like, the way we want, and we want to pass on our knowledge to other people who are interested.
We don’t care what build you are running or how you are playing, as long as you are nice and friendly and respect everyone’s way of playing GW2.
If that sounds good enough to you, I’d like to invite you to check out our recruitment topic where you can read more about us, here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS/first , or if it’d be easier for you, to shoot me a message in-game, I’d gladly answer any questions you might have regarding our little place.
Even if we don’t prove to be your choice, best of luck!
Winter
Phalanx Strength, Empower Allies, Discipline banner, Strength banner, For Great Justice, Greatsword camping, Axe/Mace, Strength runes.
That’s what I run, might be a bit outdated but I love it and it’s efficient imo.
Hi Amber!
We’re definitely not the best fit for you right now, but I’d still like to invite you to check us out. We’re Cloud of Sparrows, a small family-like oriented guild, we’re heavily oriented towards the PvE aspect of GW2, although we do have hardcore WvW and PvP players.
At this point, we mostly run dungeons and fractals but we have a raiding roster coming up and we’re looking for people who would be interested in joining us from the very start. We have a relaxed and laid back attitude but that has never stopped us from bringing the maximum of our capabilities to the table.
If that sounds good to you, you can check out our recruitment thread on here – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS , or message me in-game for further details.
Thank you for your time!
Winter
Yay! I’ll be online in around an hour, still busy with that real life stuff called “work”
Heya Rasse!
While we’re not strictly on Desolation, I’d still like to present Cloud of Sparrows to you – thankfully, with the Megaserver, you can be part of pretty much everything we do together, regardless of the fact that we’re based on Seafarer’s Rest.
We are a small guild, not looking to expand into a large one, because we love the environment of knowing the people you spend your online time with and not becoming just a number in the crowd. We do daily dungeons and fractals, we tend to neither speedrun nor spend hours for a single encounter, and we offer very high knowledge and teaching in both since the core of guild members have been in the so-called hightier PvE guilds.
In Cloud of Sparrows, you’ll be more than welcome to lead everything you mentioned! All our members are treated as equal, the ‘officers’ rank is mainly given upon desire and willingness to contribute.
If that sounds good, please check out our recruitment topic on here – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS , or message me in-game for more details.
Best of luck,
Winter
Hey buddy,
I know what you mean, so please, let me introduce Cloud of Sparrows to you. We are a group of members that has realized that large guilds aren’t always the way to go, therefore, ever since our creation we’ve had a member cap of 50 members. This allows us to get to know each other and what we love to do in-game as well as to always be able to form parties for various content.
If that sounds good to you, I invite you to take a look at our recruitment topic here – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS , or message me in-game for more details
Best wishes,
Winter
Not looking to join, but just wanted to say you guys have a cool guild name.
Thank you, kind stranger! All the charrs in our humble guild have expressed their desire to give you a big fluffy kitty hug!
How come still no one have said WoW raids are better? Well, I’ll do it.
WoW raids are better, scrubs.
Hello kazaa!
I’d like to point your attention at Cloud of Sparrows – we are a small friendly guild, unfortunately not strictly UK-only, we are international, but we have to offer a nice comfy environment, some dungeons and fractals runs and a place to relax and have a good time
If that’s enough to catch your attention, feel free to check out more about us here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS
Or just contact me in-game and I’d happily answer any questions you might have!
Best of luck,
Winter
Hello drchaos!
I’d like to ask you to take a look at Cloud of Sparrows, what you are looking for and what you are as a person seems to be a perfect match.
We are a small friendly guild based on Seafarer’s Rest. We offer high knowledge in dungeons and fractals, as well as guild runs and mentoring too. Currently we are mostly into PvE since that’s what the core of members does but we do have some WvW and PvP fanatics that I’m sure would love to share their knowledge with you.
You can read a bit more about us here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/EU-Cloud-of-Sparrows-CoS
I’ll also try to get in touch with you in-game as soon as possible!
Regards,
Winter
Getting first kill just means that your guild members downloaded patch faster.
Bro, lol.
Holy crap, that’s amazing!!
Indeed, I’d like to join in and say ‘Thank You’ as well A little bit of work and understand on both sides can go a long way. Thank you!
Ohoni, it’s fixed, mate =)
Hmmm … good question actually. Maybe devs just got confused by the glossary they used in the skill’s tool tips. As you said,
Bountiful Theft says “Stealing grants you and all nearby allies vigor.” which leaves the impression of a successful Steal attempt, in other words your Steal skill connected with a target;
Thrill of the Crime says “When you Steal, you and all nearby allies gain fury, might, and swiftness for 10 seconds.” where the keyword is only using the skill.
Or, you know, might be just a bug feature
You are able to use F1 steal w/o tagging an enemy again. You get all boons you skilled for using the F1 button, except “Vigor” you chose with “bountiful theft”.
IIRC, you need a target for the vigor so that’d make sense, yea.
I missed all the drama on this subforum.

If someone at ANet really believes that a player can not figure out what is actually going on because of the skill effects, then they should give up on whatever kind of perverted “esport” joke they are trying.
Here’s some real esport PvP game that is just as shiny and I bet you that everyone who actually spent some time playing the game could tell you the exact skills and items being used:
