Dear Guild Wars 2 Team,
I want to sincerely thank you for making one of the best mmos out there. The three year mark is fast approaching and I look forward to seeing what you guys have in store for us. About a year and a half ago I brought my mother to the light side stealing her from the World of Warcraft empire. We have played mmos together since I was living in Texas at the time and it was the best way for us to communicate. We love everything about the game, and have a lot of fun running the world boss train. This past Fall we found out that my mother has cervical caner. The game has now become a great way to release stress of the doctor visits and the fear of the cancer spreading to other place. It means a lot to me to see my mom laugh at your April Fools joke, she was laughing so hard that she was crying. So thank you guys for making such an awesome and my mom and I both look forward to the expansion!
Thank you for the touching note. Glad that you and your mother have found some joy in what we do. Wishing you all the best. Keeping my fingers crossed for your mother’s recovery.
I preferd the name Overgrown for the Mordrem. They used it at the very beginning of LS season 2, in Gates of Maguuma. It did fit much better with the names of the other dragon minions imo. I wonder why they changed it.
We showed the enemy nameplates as “overgrown” for the duration of the first episode two-week window, and then switched them to “Mordrem” when the second episode went live once Mordremoth’s name was established in the story. This was to prevent spoiler nameplates in the open world before episode 2 hit the servers.
Just because their algorithm predicts that you would be favored does not mean you would actually be favored – it has very, very clear flaws when handling premades vs pugs, for instance.
At least in aggregate, we have a very strong, linear prediction gradient for accuracy. Which means our match prediction is pretty kitten good, but we could always make improvements.
Roster size (i.e. premade count) accounts for 25% of a match’s prediction. I do wonder if it should be more.

On a related note, I’ll be on tomorrow’s Points of Interest and will likely mention some more information regarding the Personal Story restoration.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a bug in the explorable mode of Citadel of Flame that could cause Ferrah to become stuck.
- Fixed an issue with the fear condition in which the interrupt functionality would not trigger.
oh hey evan… question: patch notes or whatever said you guys changed the scoring matrix a little, but ive never seen… say… an updated version of the table that was in the blog. how was it updated?
Still need to update the wiki.

The above responses are correct, but it is worth mentioning we internally record the loss as a forfeit instead of a defeat. The leaderboards combine these numbers, but we could have UI later than distinguishes between the two.

Question for Bobby Stein:
There are quite a few story steps that could use improvements due to poor scripting (read: NPC actions in story steps). Some that come to mind are Underground Scholar, The Battle of Claw Island, and The Priory Assailed.
Is there a place where any… shall we say irksome story steps that could use tweaking be reported? Such things wouldn’t really count as “bugs” as far as I know.
For example of what I refer to:
- In Underground Scholar, you zone in to see the dredge already assaulting the Priory structure, however, the objectives and dialogues give off the impression that you missed a part where you are in the structure before the dredge assaulted, and went out to fight them to return to seeing Vyacheslav for only a moment before he retreats.
- During the Battle of Claw Island, there is some dialogue/cinematic/etc. scenes that don’t line up well or show what’s happening (when the first dead ship is sunk, when Commander Talon is killed) and the part where you have to hold off the risen easily comes off as never ending, especially to those who haven’t done it before (I certainly recall feeling like I was fighting for nearly an hour when I first did it).
- For The Priory Assailed, the destruction of the laser had near no reasoning for such happening, and though I think this was fixed the priory NPCs would wipe the floor of risen, removing any sense of urgency, as there would rarely be risen for players to kill (for once, competant allies!).
So yeah, is there a place you’d like non-bug ‘feels weird playing through this’ reports for the PS, since you’re working on them already?
Another question: any update on Season 1 bring made permanent as was promised in the past? Would be nice to have that before HoT…
It’s totally fine to give us feedback regarding story instances that you feel could benefit from some tweaks, but we’re at the point in this development schedule that we’re not likely to add them to the task backlog (a.k.a. the “list of things we’re able to do”). I’d suggest posting them on the story step discussion pages on the wiki and/or assigning them a category, similar to how folks handled the lore discrepancies reports.
Regarding Season 1, we have nothing new to announce at this time. As we’ve said before, we’d still like to bring it back someday (and hopefully make some improvements where possible) but we’re actively working on other projects at the moment.
I’m not sure if this was posted on March 31 or on April 1. This whole thread might be a hoax.
It’s not a hoax. These changes are definitely real and we’ll announce a specific release date sometime in the near future.
Patch is in. Let me know if there are any anomalies that we missed on this particular front. Fear interrupt fix should be coming shortly behind this one.

It looks to me like, they have made an adjustment in the game map of Tyria, for Rata Sum area.
And have not done the same adjustment for the copy in the tile service.
That’s certainly possible, but I’m really not familiar enough with how that endpoint works. How is the current result different from the expected result?

I was following a group around and was threatened to be mass reported by a guild
I love WvW and think you will too – you should stay. Don’t let the downers chase you away. There are some great suggestions above on how commanders should be using up-levels.
As for the reporting bit you’re doing nothing wrong by playing WvW. In fact, mass reporting for a false offense is an offense itself.

First, I’d recommend that if this is truly a bug, it be posted in detail in the Bug Forums.
However, having been shown it, I’ll see if the QA Team has also noted the thread and we may be able to give you an update in the next few days.

Reddit needs to take care of this. If they will contact our Customer Support Team, the teams can work together to verify that this is impersonation with an intent to harass. I don’t know the people working on the Reddit forum will take that step, but we’d work with them to help, if they reach out.

We’re testing a fix right now, once it checks out we’ll get it into a hotfix as soon as we can. Thanks! (This bug affects many story steps, so it’s a fix that should take care of all the “broken story” posts that popped up today.)
I’d be willing to bet they factored this in their data collection. It would not be hard to exclude inactive accounts as a factor. They would simply have to review transactions over time spent in game and negate all accounts that have not been active over X amount of time for their study. It would only make sense to do so when making a decision such as this.
This is correct, inactive accounts and guild banks were removed from the analysis. There are always going to be edge cases that are impacted by this, and some players will be more impacted than others. However, we feel that this is the right decision for the long term health of the game.
(edited by Chris Cleary.8017)
Hey all,
I checked with the team and correcting the bug is still in the works. I believe that the resolution has been developed and is currently in testing, but in either case — under development or in testing — this is still very much on the list of things that will be addressed as soon as possible.
And on a personal note, I can’t figure out George’s behavior. A few days ago, I swear that he started attacking more than he had been doing, where before he was pretty consistently sitting on the sidelines cleaning his paw. I felt — and sure, this isn’t likely — that I needed to hit F1 fewer times over the course of the evening to get him on the job. But that must have been my imagination, right? Or… did anyone else notice this at all?
Communications Manager
Guild & Fansite Relations; In-Game Events

Cleary’s data suggests that only a few thousand players transfer 500 gold or more per week via email. It also suggests that many more are involved in buying black market gold or selling off assets from stolen accounts. This change, therefore, should protect many more people than it inconveniences. We should all be happy about that aspect.
There are two issues with the solution that are not covered by Cleary’s post:
- How many people withdraw 500g or more from guild banks in a week? I suspect the fraction is much larger than stated, if only because I know lots of people that add/subtract a few 100g every few days; I know very few who have 500g at any given time.
- How about guild leaders managing lotteries, donations to guilds moving from other servers, or otherwise pooling guild assets?
I’ll go ahead and pitch in on these 2 points, as they seem to be the most prevalent in the discussion so far.
On the first point about guild bank withdraws.
Yes, this will impact players with personal Guild Banks storing gold. However, a majority of players here are talking about personal guild banks for storage of wealth. These are basically the same as storing gold in the old personal bank. While there some benefits to doing this, the account wallet was implemented to be a single storage point for an account. On a single account basis, this does not impact anyone’s ability to move your gold unless you still have a large quantity of gold sitting in your guild bank as of today.
When multiple personal accounts are taken into account, this has a much larger impact on the ability to move wealth between accounts. This is just going to be an unfortunate side effect of clamping down on large wealth movements, and if you have multiple personal accounts, there are many different ways to store and transfer wealth between your accounts.
On to the second point about lotteries/donations/pooling assets.
There are plenty of workarounds that can be done for almost all of these situations that are being brought up. None of these situations are actually prevented by implementing the gold restriction, they are simply slowed down. Gold transfer does not need to be performed by one person/account for guild matters, as almost all guilds that are doing these activities have a guild officer core they can rely on.
There will always be cases where multiple of thousands of gold need to be moved, just plan ahead for those events. That being said, donations of gold are probably no longer the best means of transfering wealth between guild members if you are trying to move large quantities of wealth.

Only people who disconnect get desertions. Their teammates will get get a win or a forfeit.
Update: 4/5 players on the winning team had desertions.
If you are partied with the deserting player, you too get a desertion. That is why he is asking. He was not the one that disconnected, but his friend in his party did. Must have been in a party of 4 if they all received desertion status. Their 5th solo Q’er was unaffected because he was not in party.
This is true. It was a 4/1 split and all 4 party members got a desertion. I will have to loop in other people as this was not something I was involved in!

I’m bugging the programmers to see if today’s update changed something that’s broken “defeat X foes” objectives, since there appear to be multiple broken story steps today that haven’t been changed in ages.

I found the match. Looks like you had an 80% change of winning (the highest odds bracket) and you deserted (by disconnecting) so the game was considered a loss for you resulting in -3 points.

“Please note that the core gameplay and structure of this story instance has not been changed—the difficulty has been adjusted to allow for solo play and will therefore be more accessible for players.”
^ Does that mean I can solo the dungeon now but I cannot open that first gate alone? Or did they change the gate? (Right now it needs 2 people to step on the plates to open it).
The entire instance, including this part, will be soloable. You will only have to step on one plate to open the gate.
Were either of you grouped with other players, or were you running the instance solo? My first guess would be it’s not scaling correctly. (The objective wants you to kill X+scale soldiers, but it’s only spawning X soldiers.)
If you only gain a point for winning and lose a point for losing, everyone will be sorted by their win percentage. This means anyone with <50% win rate would never advance. (Unless I misunderstood you)
This is one reason we have the odds-of-winning based point matrix to ensure even matches help you climb, and you don’t fall for uneven matches.
