Login issues because of past refund

Once an account is refunded, it is permanently closed. I don’t know how you could add a new serial code to a closed account, but sometimes strange things happen. CS will not be able to re-activate the account — that’s the price to be paid (and it is warned about) when seeking a refund. But I sense you may not be asking to reactivate your old account, but simply to use that e-mail address again.

A CS agent may be able to retrieve the new code if it truly has been added to the terminated account. I cannot say whether he/she would be able to release the e-mail address for another use — to be honest, I suspect that cannot happen. (But no worries, if the code can be retrieved you could set up the account with a second e-mail address, right?)

Anyway, as explained by forum members in this thread, the only way to resolve this is to submit a ticket, which you have done. The team will response as soon as they are able to do so.

I put a ticket in support but not sure how I know they got it……

To answer the question as to how you’d know if Support got your ticket: Please check all your e-mail inboxes, because an automatic response is sent for each ticket when it is submitted. No worries if you don’t find that one, but of course we want to be sure you’ll get actual agent responses in the future. More info here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Not-Getting-Our-Mails-Yahoo-Gmail-Hotmail-and-more/first#post2924424

You need to go to ‘support’ (on the top of this page) and then to ‘submit a request’ (top right corner of that page). If you done that and done all the steps to file a support ticket it is a waiting game. They work 24/7 but there is a queue.

Looking at your post it seems that you made mistake once to transfer server instead of guesting. If that is the case (support can see that) it is up to them to decide to grant you a refund of gems and a feee transfer back. If it is, as your saying a glitch is it is more likely they will do so.

Personally I think that the world transfer and the guesting option are too simular. So to make a small suggestion….

—suggestion of fictional solution starts here—
Do not change the guesting option and keep it as it is.
To make a server change (besides when you got all characters deleted) you need to be in the game and buy a ‘server change token’. Once you got this token you can double click it in game to select your new home world.
—-end of suggestion of a fictional solution—-

Just my two cents.

MR: About suggestions: With the closure of the Suggestions Sub-Forum, I am not sure where to place the ones you’ve made about the game UI design. Perhaps you could place your suggestions in the General GW2 Discussion Forum, or find another sub-forum that would suit. I do hope you will post your ideas — we are always on the lookout for ways to make the game better! Thanks.

Knowing his email address is not the same as having access to it. If they had the password to the email they would have intercepted the “someone is trying to log in” email and validated themselves, thus successfully hacking the game account. Because they didn’t do that, they have the address but not the password.

It’s like, looking up my address in the phone book, you can show up at my house, but that doesn’t mean you have the key to the front door.

This is true. E-mail addresses are “phished” all the time by people who hope the owner has a GW2 account, and will fall victim to an account theft. The fact that an e-mail address is “out there” isn’t the issue. The issue is when the e-mail address and password are on some credential list harvested from a hacked site, and some pretty major sites have been plumbed for those lists. For more info, see this article, definitely worth a read: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/

One thing you will have to note is that questions were collected from four communities on the English, German, French, and Spanish forums. There were so many more questions than we could possibly answer. If we had our team answer all of them, they would not have time to work on the game and create the very lore that you’re currently playing. We tried to get a good spread of questions from each community.

  • Wintersday Gifts will no longer drop in World vs. World.
  • Fixed a bug in the story step “A Grisly Shipment” that prevented it from advancing.

That or one free transfer within the first 30/60 days of creating an account.

I’m afraid that negates the reasoning behind the cool-down period and is, unfortunately, too likely to be abused. The policy for new players is going to address this, but thanks for the suggestion!

Just wanted to update, and to give a shout out with how impressed I am with the service on this issue. Our issue was handled overnight in a very satisfactory manner by a CSR, and we are off and running. Appreciate the quick response and think it’s great when a company can recognize when an umbrella policy might not cover every situation perfectly, and works to get it solved. What could have been an extreme annoyance for our group instead became a positive experience.

So glad everyone is happy. Yep, we look at policies all the time to make sure we’re doing the maximum we can for every player. Raim, welcome to Tyria! And Pook, if your friend is a different person, pass along that greeting for me!

Ok, policy change made (or at least clarified for everyone).

In a situation where a new account holder/player starts the game and realizes he or she chose a game world in error, if that player contacts Customer Support (via a ticket, Click “Support” above and then “Submit a request”) we most likely will be able to accommodate a transfer request.

Exceptions may apply. For instance, if someone is playing on his/her second account, game world selection is not a new experience and I don’t see us offering this service. The free transfer without cool-down is intended for players who are totally new to Guild Wars 2.

This means a brand new player will not need to wait for a 7-day cool-down period but can get moved to the game world his/her friends are playing on without delay. This should happen when a player submits a ticket right away, within 24 hours of account creation.

Please let me know if you have questions, and I’m glad this sorted out perfectly for your friend!

In the never ending quest to improve our design and find ways to please as many people as possible we’re always digging into constructive criticism. We have not perfected the recipe for an open world boss event, probably because we’re pioneering new territory here.

As far as I can tell there are a couple challenges we are trying to overcome. First, we are trying to teach the community a new skill: self organization. And I’m happy to see that in the aggregate, they ARE learning. I’m sure as this process continues we will find better ways to accommodate the communication structures that will emerge.

Secondly, from both a technical and player-experience perspective, it’s best to break up zergs as much as possible. Thematically keeping everyone feeling like they are contributing to a common cause from multiple locations, and still feel heroic is an interesting challenge to balance. Always looking for new ideas on this issue!

distribute players by parceling them out one platform at a time like a poker dealer rather than selecting platforms for them randomly? Really? As a programmer myself I was astonished when I found out that it was possible to have 5 on one platform and 1 on another. I mean, this is really basic stuff!

Having 5 on one platform and 1 on another could only be a very edge case requiring several people to drop out at the right moment. Our script does exactly what you said, poker dealer style.

let people on platforms who have already completed help out with other platforms

We tried really hard to get this in. Every solution we came up with had technical constraints.

lengthen the timers a bit

The timers and mob HP were balanced and rebalanced several times in an attempt to find a sweet spot that would ensure people couldn’t faceroll the event, but wasn’t so difficult that no one could do it. Everyone’s mileage will vary. And as with any group activity, virtual or real life, there is luck inherent in that. Some people hate that dynamic and some love it. If someone has an idea about how to ameliorate the inherent luck factor in group events, please speak up!

make it easier for parties to be in the same overflow where there’s actually enough people to win

I know there are people working on various solutions to this problem.

have the event scale in difficulty based on the number of players

It scales quite a bit. The more people there are in a lane will change the number of vets and champs that spawn, and the platform boss’s HP scales based on how many end up on the platform.

Greetings,

Welcome to the next installment of the Dolyak Express. Today we have answers to some of your lore questions from this thread, as well as from the other language forums, from Lead Writer Bobby Stein and Narrative Designers Jeff Grubb and Scott McGough.

Q: What sort of internal structures do you have at work to maintain consistency of the universe in the long run [among so many designers and writers]? I know you have a big wiki for pure objective and logical consistency, but what about the spirit of the universe?

Bobby Stein: We use a combination of wikis, internal documentation, and interdisciplinary communication to both maintain and evolve the spirit of the Guild Wars universe. Every team that is building story content has an assigned narrative designer who drafts character dialog and plot, but also checks for continuity.

Q: Could you explain to us the steps of the story creation process based on a well-known example? From the idea to the game—including the different people dealing with it. How were different teams involved in creating it?

Bobby: Living World story creation has evolved considerably over the past year, as we’re always striving to create interesting character moments that resonate with our players. It all starts with a concept or plot outline involving our main characters. We pose a question that we want players to ask. Then we set out to answer that question through a combination of story beats, character moments, art set pieces, and gameplay. We discuss those ideas as a team, and narrow them down to a more focused story. From there, the teams are able to take that framework and build the content that you play every two weeks.

To show that evolution, I’ll use two different release groups. Flame & Frost started out as a series of teaser events that would lead up to the introduction of Rox and Braham, the retaking of Cragstead and the devourer hatchery, and the destruction of Molten Alliance weapons facilities. A relatively small team built that content over several months, with the members focusing on specific story and gameplay bits from concept to completion. We used open world events to draw players in, and then developed the story and characters mostly in story instances.

Contrast that with the Nightmare Tower releases, which had a larger cast of characters, bigger story instances and world zones, and action on a larger scale. Since we were using established characters, we were able to build some quieter moments to allow roleplayers a chance to get to know them a bit better, and we were able to put those out in the open world for increased visibility.

With each release, members of the various Living World teams earned valuable experience that they’d apply to their next projects. By the end of 2013, the writers and narrative designers were working more closely with gameplay designers, which led to greater synergy between disciplines and stronger stories as a result. You’ll see evidence of that in the remaining four releases of the Scarlet story.

Q: The texture of the moon in-game closely resembles the real world moon. Is Tyria supposed to be Earth? And if so, is the Guild Wars 2 universe based before or after our own time?

Bobby: Any similarities to our moon are purely coincidental. Tyria is not Earth.

Q: How is the centaur society structured? What place does spiritualism, social rank, family take in day-to-day life?

Scott McGough: In modern times, the bulk of centaur society is structured more like a massive army under the control of a powerful warlord—specifically, Ulgoth the Mighty of the Modniir. In reaction to all the other sentient races pushing in on centaur territory (humanity being the first on their list of enemies), the Modniir mustered and organized the Harathi and Tamini tribes into a single large fighting force. The Modniir occupy the highest position in this tribal hierarchy, followed by the Harathi, and then the Tamini. The Modniir are ruthless and dictatorial, conscripting the less powerful centaur tribes into service and forcing them to fight according to the combat strategies and orders of battle laid out by the Modniir high command.

The centaurs are generally a very spiritual people that combine nature worship with ancestor worship. This worship was always fairly militant and violent, with rites that routinely ended in ritualistic combat between centaur tribes or between individuals from the same tribe. Years of struggle and border warfare have hardened the centaurs to the point where their religious observances are even more violent and martial than they had been, especially with the Modniir’s aggressive campaign of attacks on humanity. Centaurs still have a deep reverence for their nature spirit (whom they vehemently deny is an aspect of the human goddess Melandru) but these days they focus on the proud, wild, and free aspects of their spirituality far more than the growing and nurturing aspects.

Centaur family bonds have correspondingly diminished in importance as the war against humanity progresses. They still have defined family roles (in short, the males hunt and protect the tribe’s borders while the females aggressively defend centaur civilians while administering the day to day operation of encampments). Males are more common on the battlefield, but as the conflict with humanity continues to drain centaur resources, more and more females are being called away from centaur homesteads to participate in the front line fighting.

Q: Are the Six [gods] really gone or not? Their power is still very much present. Players can call upon the gods’ power with prayers, NPC priests can summon Reapers of Grenth etc., and their statues are still stuffed with energy. So if they left, why are their power still here?

Jeff Grubb: The human gods still exist, and their power is still felt within Tyria. However, they have pulled back into the mists, leaving the humans to stand (or fall) on their own merits. There has been a tendency for the human gods to, um, meddle with their worshippers a bit much, and in the wake of the final battle of Abaddon, they have been trying to cut back. Also, the destruction of the big A and his replacement with Kormir in the Pantheon resolved one of their ties with physical contact with Tyria. So there are ties, but you just can’t ring them up to take on the Elder Dragons.

Q: During their training in the fahrar, how is a charr’s profession decided? What would prompt a cub to be given training in spellcasting, when spellcasting is not particularly liked in charr society? Does the fahrar merely give charr a basic military training and they then leave and decide which profession they want to specialize in?

Jeff: Profession is determined by aptitude. If a young charr has magical tendencies, it would be unwise both for the cub and the warband to push him or her into another field. Some groups do this, but others are pragmatic about it – a hallmark of charr thinking. They are not big fans of magical abilities due to the previous power of the Flame Legion, but still see magical abilities as a useful tool. The best modern comparison is the American Football Team, which mostly consists of big, beefy warrior types, but really like to keep around the small guy whose only real skill is to kick the ball 50 yards through a set of uprights.

Q: Can you explain how an asuran wedding ceremony might work ? Preferably with as much details as possible.

Jeff: Here’s what I have said publicly previously on Asura Marriage – Asura tend to practice serial monogamy, in that they have a serious romantic relationship with only one other asura at a time. Most of these relationships are equal partnerships which often (but not always) have a firm, pre-determined end date. Most often, such relationships come out of two asura who fall in love with the same beautiful concept. These marriages of the mind produce rapid development of ideas and increased conceptual paradigms. Oh yeah, and children. Relationships that break up tend to feature more fights about who gets the inventions than who gets the kids. – http://secretagentcat.com/2011/09/12/in-the-mind-of-genius/

I don’t think we’ve had an asura wedding ceremony yet.

Q: Do ogres have religious beliefs?

Jeff: From our internal wiki “Ogres are not spiritual in any fashion; they have no concept of gods of religious spirits, they do not worship anything or anyone, they do not have religious traditions, superstitions, or any other fantastic explanation about how the world works or how life was created. They simply do not care. Ogres care only for the here-and-now, the concrete reality of the moment, and have no spiritual belief system to address anything beyond that point.”

Q: Do the wizard towers in Kessex Hills and Ascalon have any relationship? What´s the story behind them and what happened to the Ascalonian one?

Jeff: I think the two towers are similar chiefly because of the chains. The idea of chaining down your tower makes sense for when you are dealing with particularly powerful powerful magics allows you to move the tower away from populated areas when you are experimenting with particularly powerful energies, and, of course, to move away once something has gone horribly, horribly wrong. The tower in Kessex Hills was in a nearby location in GW1 and was towed to the present location. The one from Ascalon in GW1 is missing and its fate is unrevealed.

Q: In the Order of Whispers lair, we can see a huge planetarium. But it doesn’t seem to correspond to Tyrian continents. What are the blue areas on it? Of what use is this item for the Order?

Jeff: The huge orb is the Order Threat Assessment Board, indicating draconic and other supernatural threats on a huge scale. Much of the globe has not been explored by the Order, and as a result that space is used as expanded views for the areas that they are monitoring, and the end result does not look like the “real” world outside to someone just walking in (think of walking up behind a programmer when their screen is filled with code).

Q: What is the story behind the secret rooms in Caudecus’ Manor and the faces therein?

Jeff: The rooms of madness were something that Josh came up with for the Caduecus explorables, which we put into the map but did not implement in the game due to time. They remained on the map itself, but were not connected. Fans located the rooms by getting behind the architecture. There is currently no official story regarding the faces.

He has 2 separate spin attacks based off the size of his animations. The first one is small and just out of range of those important locations. This is when he performs his “Drool” attack and spits out the green goo at players. The second one is much larger, and can occur when players get close to the Wurm.

Snip.

I understand where you’re coming from. Heck, the ‘shower of responses’ on the sPvP forums is probably from me.

WvW is an incredibly complex game-type that caters to individuals with a wide array of interests, whether that’s coordinated large-scale guild groups, havoc groups, small-man roaming, roaming alone, zerg surfing, and whatever else floats your respective boats. I’ve been spending a considerable amount of time reading through threads in this forum – the good, the bad, and the ultra ugly. Getting your finger on the pulse of WvW can be difficult when there’s multiple perspectives on every issue. This is on me to sort through, and I want to make sure I do right by you guys.

In the meantime, please continue to provide feedback. This is essential. In case you’re wondering what I want for Valentine’s Day: I like lists, break-downs, and bullet points.

Helpful thread for a frustrating issue!

Just wanted to give some feedback – I’ve been having trouble recently getting emails to authorize login attempts from different IP addresses (one set IP address at home, and also a mobile internet modem through a different provider. I had about a 30% success rate), and yesterday I needed to reset my password but wasn’t receiving the password reset emails. For the record, I use a hotmail address. I found this forum topic, read through the entries, added the list of email addresses provided by Gaile in a previous post to my safe senders list, then requested another password change and an email arrived within seconds allowing me to change my password. Excellent, and thanks for the advice.

I do have to mention, however, that the Password Reset email I received from noreply@guildwars2.com shows up in my hotmail inbox as from ArenaNet rather than noreply@guildwars2.com, contrary to Gaile’s note on that email address. I double checked the sender by clicking “forward email”, and the first line of the email to be forwarded is “> From: noreply@guildwars2.com” with no mention of “ArenaNet” in the sender line, so all is well. Perhaps that’s just a hotmail quirk.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the confirmation that you can amend this and for the note about the sender. I’ll go back and update my comments later. I’m glad your access is ok now and that you’re getting those critical authentication mails!

Hey, thanks everyone! We spent a lot of time tweaking the balance on this, and I’m glad that so many people appreciate our efforts. We REALLY like hearing that people are making memories and cheering each other on. Those are the kinds of experiences we make MMOs for.

I’m not surprised that the Wurm is not liked by as many people. We were making that specifically for the hard core groups that are all about the organization and figuring out the strategy and tactics. It’s really cool watching the community grapple with this puzzle and innovate as they get closer and closer to finding a winning strategy.

Are any of the items in an invisible bag? Items in an invisible bag are hidden from vendors and the TP. Sorry, I don’t know the bag icons well enough to tell what you have.

I assume you’re referring to the story step “Infiltration”? When you defeat the bandit marked by a star, a bundle drops on the ground nearby. You can use F to interact with the bundle and disguise yourself. Depending on where you fought the bandit, it might not be right next to the bandit’s body, but the bundle sparkles a bit.

I discussed this with our Billing Team, and here’s how things work:

Yes you can purchase an Non-European (also called North American, but it covers any region except Europe) code from buy.guildwars2.com for your friend in EU and she will be able to register and play the game with that code. However, if that happens, her account always will be a Non-European account and if she wants to add codes to it later — say, though Gem Store purchases — she would need to acquire Non-European codes for those purchases, as well. That would make it more difficult for her in the future.

Instead, we recommend that you purchase your friend a boxed copy of the game from one of our authorized retailers in her European region that can ship the game box directly to her address in Europe. This way, she will have a European game and adding codes in the future will be possible.

I hope this is helpful, and thank you again for sharing Guild Wars 2 with your friend!

Update 2: We have a fix in testing right now, once it’s confirmed we’ll get it to Live ASAP. Note that trying to implement a workaround (like switching your story step) would still require us to go through testing, bring down the servers, etc. and just isn’t viable. Thanks for your patience!

Hi Gaile, the latest update(22 Jan’14 Build: 28,787) seem to have fix the TgUpdate 1.11 problem.

So glad to hear that, bapenigo! I believe there may be outlier cases that still need to know about the process outlined above, but it’s good that the majority may be in the clear.

Gnat — I’m get daily warnings for certain systems we use at work. I figure okaying my own access is a small price to pay for the one day I might get a message that “Someone is trying to access your account from Uzbekistan or Uruguay.” I just put up with the confirmation process and move along.

As IC said, the requests for confirmation will decrease over time.

Greetings,

I have also received a phising email, it was signed by GM Cuache stating that I have been trying to do illegal transactions, when I clicked the link google advised me that it was a phising site and I did not go any further, I though it was weird since last I played in GW 2 was like 1 week ago and I only have one friend there.

That’s a fake and links should not be clicked. I’m glad you got a warning and that your account is ok!

Could you give an example of a secret mechanic in the Guild Wars 2 please?

There is a chicken in Tyria that you can try to kill, but you just make him angry, and you won’t like him that way.

We do understand the frustration and tendency for name-calling and such. That being said, we do not allow it in-game or on the forums. If you see this behavior in-game, please report it. If you see it on the forums, please report the post so the Moderation Team can resolve the issue.
