You don’t need merits to access Guild Bounty Hunts, which is the first level of guild missions. You need influence, and that’s how the training missions help you get there.
The new news update talked about new rewards, including weapons. Could this be some of the rewards we expect to see? Or perhaps they are rewards from doing the Living Story things. Only time will tell.
These are not the guild weapons [you’re looking for].
Very simply, shouldn’t all Guilds be able to participate in Guild Missions?
Every guild can—so long as they research the appropriate upgrades, recruit enough members or outside assistance, and work together to finish the content. This is quite similar to saying every character can kill Zhaitan—as long as they’ve leveled to 80, purchased gear, found a group, etc. Keep in mind that content is often in itself something to be achieved. In this case we’ve taken that concept from character progression and applied it to guilds, and now we have guild progression (which should read as something new for guilds to do). That’s on top of all the other things guilds are already for.
My team is content-focused. Calenders, alliances, and other features are a bit outside of my scope. All I can really say is that those features are all being discussed and evaluated against everything else we’re trying to do.
Just a reminder, try to stay on topic. Unfortunately, I don’t really have any information or anything else to say about ascended items.
Ascended weapons may be available from guild content at some point in the future, but that hasn’t been decided yet.
I think I just vomited a little in my mouth.
Which is sad, because on the whole I like what the blog was trying to convey.
I’m pretty sure if we had ascended weapons, there would be a ton of ways to get them.
So you have helped out small-guilds who simply couldn’t GAIN or BUY the influence. What makes you think these guild can then DO the guild missions as they currently stand? That’s the problem you are missing here.
Haven’t missed it. I’m fully aware of this perspective, however, we have always said that these guilds who are extremely limited in number will have to work together to attain these goals. That’s what this content is about. That’s WHAT these rewards are about.
There’s a huge variety of content and rewards available in the game. And while some rewards can be attained several ways, others are reserved as merit for specific tasks. This is no different from dungeon armor, achievement titles, or the map-completion badge. Certainly we would never give you those things for completing guild content.
(edited by AnthonyOrdon.3926)
I don’t think you truly understand what makes a guild a guild.…
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about what a guild is. Guild content, however, is designed to be about challenges that can only be overcome by working with other people. The new mission type is not intended to change that by circumventing the content that’s already in place. All it does it make it more accessible.
Yeah, so this is a half-fix. It helps with the influence-earning, but doesn’t help us keep guild members who will leave over lack of loot.
This is one of the problems that we’re specifically trying to address here. Even if your entire guild is representing another guild, you can have these training missions researching in your inactive guild and then swap back over to complete them for massive influence gains.
It says new weapons will be added, does that mean Ascended Weapons?
The new weapons are exotics. They have unique skins and are only attainable through guild content.
Ascended weapons may be available from guild content at some point in the future, but that hasn’t been decided yet.
I have some clarifications for you guys. The intent of the training mission is to make it easier for your small or less active guild to access other guild missions (or acquire anything else you need influence for). It’s not meant to replace standard bounty hunts or augment influence gain for guilds that can already earn a ton of it. To that end:
- The commendations, rares, and silver are not awarded. That reward is specific to actual bounty missions.
- The training mission can be researched and activated as many times as you like. You can stockpile up to 10. Keep in mind that researching a training mission will tie up one of your research slots and that boosting that research with extra influence will ultimately cancel out a portion or all of your gains from the training mission.

Umm. spectators toggle? Does that mean you have spectator mode ready to come out when custom arenas do?
That’d be the ideal case, though it’s also conceivable that we’d release Custom Arenas by themselves, if Spectator Mode wasn’t ready at the same time.
Anyway, I have to point out something that worries me a lot: rank points in custom will be the same that on hot-join for example?
Because if the answer is affirmative we will have a problem with people farming PvP ranks on their private servers with friends/guildies.
I wouldn’t worry about this too much. This is something we’ve already accounted for.
It is a rank based on your matchmaking rating, not your glory rank.
I do wonder if it’s changing wildly if something suspicious is going on with your account. Maybe a call to your ISP would be in order, asking them to confirm that ISP ###, ###, and ### are legitimately theirs.
I think that is what I would do, if I saw myself logging in from, say, Washington and Florida.
But for full disclosure, one player in the UK was “logging in from” England, Scotland, and Wales, and he wasn’t ever leaving his living room. So the “dynamic IP” can be a contributor to this.

Sigil of Chilling has a tooltip text error that says Frozen Duration, when it should say Chill Duration.
Let’s calm down a bit, this isn’t getting us far. Instead let me ask this.
Here are the assumptions that I’m operating under for this question:
1. You feel that PvE and TP have difference levels of gold earning
2. You feel that PvE and TP should have the same level of gold earning
What would be your plan for implementing a reward system that would achieve what you desire, given the constraint that you may not get rid of the trading post?
I am honestly surprised that there is still some confusion about this upcoming change. So let me try to clarify it once more:
Current:
- You get one guaranteed rare (or better) per event per day per character from the event chest. Everything else in the event chest is based on normal drop chance, so there is a chance to get rares (or better) as well.
After the change:
- You get one guaranteed rare (or better) per event per day per account from an extra chest that will be displayed like the chest for the dailies. Everything else in the event chest is based on normal drop chance, so there is a chance to get rares (or better) as well.
Thanks Gaile – but there’s currently no way to undo this?
Although you can always approach Support and ask about this specific instance directly, at the present time we don’t have a means to address this situation.
We’re keenly aware that a “buy-back” or “cool-down” would be a good thing, and while I cannot speak for the dev team in this regard, I know they’re aware of players’ desire for such a feature, as well. Where it falls on the “to do” list, and how it might be addressed, are details we simply do not have right now.

You’re correct. This isn’t the right forum for this, but I’m not brushing you off!

So ban the IP. If its a known hacker with a provable history then ban his IP. and for every one of these people that you find that you can prove that they are known for hacking and RMT, again keep banning these IP’s.
Or better yet, simply block access to china. In perpetuity. No more Chinese RMT hackers.
Sure. Punish a whole country for the actions of a few. Wouldn’t you be rather peeved if some morons from your country decided to, say, launch a Denial of Service attack on Youtube, and in retaliation, Youtube decided to IP block your entire country from visiting Youtube?
Besides, it’s well known that most hackers use IP spoof software when conducting their activities anyway. IP blocks wouldn’t really do anything to solve the problem.
I think this sort of sums it up, really. Widespread IP bans also affect legitimate players. And most hackers use proxies, so…

My issue is that WE have to handle this for Anet.. Why do we have to police their inability to control bot (again mind you, this problem has been around since launch)..
Anet GET on the problem. Do not make us, the paying customer, have to fix the lax controls you have when it comes to botting..
The best thing, I will infracted for calling this out.. /shrug..
You are not required to do anything. Players have asked if they can help, and I’ve set up a thread that allows us to gather information that they give, willingly and with the most helpful of intentions.
We do not need to GET on the problem. We ARE on the problem, and things have improved and are improving daily.
I doubt you’ll get infracted for this, but you will be reminded — by me — that a bad attitude, misinformation, and invalid assumption make for a very poor level of forum discourse.

As I posted above, I need more information. I’ve played through this step several times now with no issue. Hejka goes in, the charr decide to shoot a risen chicken, this causes several undead to attack, when the attackers are defeated the NPC play a scene and decide to enter the building to find Hejka. Were any of the NPCs dead when you finished the fight with the undead? At the time of this post, there was a bug that could stall the story step if you attacked the undead BEFORE Hejka went inside, but it was fixed some time ago.
EDIT: I killed all of the NPCs during the undead attack and they auto-rezz at the end, so I really can’t find a way to break the story step, sorry!

Large scale WvW… It really doesn’t matter. I have to eye roll a little bit when you say proper pet management is the key. Yeah you might get lucky and send your pet in at just the right moment to get a reef drakes skill off once. If you’re even luckier it might be facing towards some enemies at that moment, but it will die right after and you will be left at 60% effectiveness and a long cool down before you can swap him out.
Large scale WvW our pet’s are utter fail. No amount of lipstick is going to make this pig look good.
Haha, well in my experience when the zerg clashes it only lasts about 10-15 seconds before a clear victor is found and you’re either running for your life at that point or stepping over the bodies of your enemy. I tend to use ranged weapons in WvW so I hold my pet for the first 5 seconds of the Zerg clash, which gives the AOEs a moment to end and be in CD.
However I don’t even know of any player classes (even guardian) that can handle the zerg for more than a few seconds on the front line, so I don’t really fault pets too hard for dying in the zerg clash.
EDIT: Removing commas… Man I have a weird thing with using commas inappropriately.
(edited by Robert Hrouda.1327)
but…. but I would never whip Cuddles the Black Widow, or Sir Chompers the Hyena… or even Citizen Snips the Devourer.
These are just my personal choices for what to bring. I’m eager to see what you all bring, and why you do it.
EDIT:
Totally forgot about my underwater pets! In general I swim with the shark, and my rainbow jellyfish.
(edited by Robert Hrouda.1327)
Hey folks,
Ever since popping onto the forums here, I’ve gotten a lot of PM’s about what pets I use, and when\where I use them. By no means I am going to claim any of these are the best choices, so I’m also making this thread to see what you all bring and where you bring them. I’ll set up a template that you can choose to follow or ignore
also please feel free to add to the list of places you feel pet selection is key.
Open World
Running around Solo: I love my Hyena and Jungle spider (Black widow) combo. The Hyena is my main due almost purely to its ability to summon a buddy for a bit and CC. Even though it does less damage than other wolves, you get 2 cripples, and up to 4 seconds of knockdown between the both of them. That should give me all the time I need to handle whatever is trying to eat my face. I take the Jungle spider for a similar reason: Stuns and immob. Plus I own a tarantula and have always liked spiders. Plus I earned that black widow, so I’m gonna flaunt it.
In the zerg: Ranged pets only. Spiders or devourers. No sense in letting your pet run into the cluster and get lost – keep them at your side spitting and throwing barbs, and you’ll be fine. No hassle, no drop in DPS, just smooth sailing. Note: If you go melee ikittenerg, dodge roll back first, then swap to a ranged pet, then run back into melee. This means your ranged pet will stand to the side and shoot instead of being right next to you and shooting. This rule applies in almost every situation for melee rangers swapping to a ranged pet.
WvWvW
Solo (hunting runners/supply lines): The most dangerous game! Hyenas are great due to their CC, and Jungle Stalker/Jaguar can bring the pain. I’m looking to either disable and kill quickly in these situations.
In the zerg: Managing your pet is the most important thing here. Know when to make them heel, and know when to send them into battle. I like tanky pets here, and nothing hurts more people when the zerg finally clashes than a Reef Drake’s confusion or a River Drake’s bouncing lightning breath. They can take a few hits, but knowing when to have them use a skill and when to retreat is just as important as knowing when you yourself need to retreat. Of course a wolf howl is great in this situation too, but I feel like the wolf dies too fast when the heat gets turned on.
Defending a door: Similar rules apply to this as does the zerg. Keep your pet at your side, and if you feel the need to jump off a tower to dive into the fray, swap your pet the moment you land on the ground to have it at your side and actually in the fight. Your pet can’t jump off walls with you, so swapping it when you’re off the wall means your companion will be there to do what help it can.
PvP
I find PvP moves a bit too fast to find pets for certain situations, because it is really hard to plan for an encounter and be right. I have a few favorites I tend to bring, but really this is also build dependent. I tend to bring one tanky pet, and one utility pet to PvP, with the utility pet fitting a niche.
Tanky: Brown Bear is a great choice, especially with empathic bond and the shout “Protect me”
Utility: Raven is fun: blind, vuln, and swiftness.
Utility:Wolf: Terrifying Howl – because it can save your life. I’ll stress the word can.
Utility: Reef Drake: People often ask me why I bring this into matches, and I feel it’s a good tanky pet with a confusion, and a blowout. I don’t often use him, but when I’m facing a bunch of thieves, this guy can really be helpful, even with “Protect me” for when you’re getting heart-spammed
Dungeons
It’s hard to say what I bring the most here, because that’s not really up to me. Look at your group and make a judgement call. Try to find something that works with your team composition. Be mindful of pets that have finishers, and pets that create AOE fields.
At a boss: Generally 2x Devourers. Since bosses hit like a truck, tanky pets who stand in front of a boss aren’t always favorable. I bring a pet I know won’t run into the fray and get randomly killed. Devourers are tough enough to take a hit, so I prefer them over spiders. However if you are confident that your team comp can handle the aggro while you can manage evasion and your pet, then I would recommend 1 spider and 1 devourer. If the boss has a healing mechanic, I like to bring forest spider and Whiptail Devourer. Otherwise I’ll bring along a Lakittenail Devourer and Jungle Spider (Black Widow).
In general: Find what your team needs and do that. Sometimes a Fern Wolf Howl in combination with a well placed healing spring provides up-front glass cannon DPS with all the healing they can handle. Jungle Stalker’s Mighty roar is a great booster. Blue Moas provide both protection and healing so you really can’t go wrong there, and Red Moas give consistent and good fury along with healing.
It will show you the quickest route from your current position, but it doesn’t know which gates are available to you. You can zoom out on the map and look for the green star that marks the actual story step location.
It was just updated a few hours ago.

Will all dailies/monthlies and infinite sources be counted in this ranking? If so, it seems rather useless as it will be all about who has the most money to blow on salvaging then.
Could any developer please give us more information on this?
As we warned earlier this year, we’ll be closing out the infinitely repeatable achievements and capping them at a reasonable achievement number due to these rankings and the rewards we plan to add to total achievement points someday. These achievements will get capped with this release.
Daily/Monthly achievements won’t be changed.
What can we do about this hacking? I didn’t receive an email authorization and someone went into my account on the 13th and wiped me out. I am on the EU server and now I just talked to a friend and he was hacked (today) the same way on the US server. No email notice, no nothing they just go in, wipe you out and leave. I got my account restored but feel sure it will happen again. I cannot change my email address and I am assuming it is a simple task to find my password now that my account has already been hacked once. Please, stop the madness so we can play the game ANet. Makes me sick and have kinda lost interest. Hackers even cleaned out my Guild’s Vault and talk about a lot of players being upset “with me” and that cannot be restored either.
With all due respect, how can we “stop the madness” when the issue is brought about through personal security breaches? Our servers are fine; the game isn’t compromised, and yet you were hacked. That points to something on your side that is a problem.
If you have authentication and did not receive the emails, then that points to a compromise/hack of your email account. Someone learns your credentials — not through us — and accesses both your email and your game account. That person then attempts a log-in, an email is sent to point out the access attempt, but the hacker intercepts the email and “accepts” the authentication request, thereby stealing your account.
I really do understand how frustrating this is. And we will do our best to help you. But ultimately, your account has been accessed through the credentials, and that points to a Trojan or keylogger. I’d recommend a full system scan, and not just common virus software scanning. (In one case where I suspected unauthorized access, I flattened my machine and reinstalled everything to set my mind at ease about the security of my system and my personal info.)
Please ask our Support Team for the names of trusted scanning programs through your ticket.

Hi Zivorak Thanks for the Game Advisor report! There’s a couple of things here that I’m noticing which could potentially be the cause of the issue (there are a few things which could cause error 58). First, make sure that when you launch the game that you’re right-clicking the executable and running as admin. Secondly, you have quite a few background applications enabled and to eliminate conflicting applications as being the cause of the issue, we like to suggest a Windows command known as Msconfig. You can do this by trying the steps below:
Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up.
To do this:
1. Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the R key. This should bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type “MSCONFIG” without the quotes, and click “OK.” This should open the System Configuration Utility.
3. Click on the “Services” tab and check the “Hide All Microsoft Services” check box near the bottom, then click the “Disable All” button. (You MUST click “Hide all Microsoft Services”)
4. Next go to the “Startup” tab and click the “Disable All” button.
5. Once these items are all disabled, click the “OK” button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.
6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again.
Lastly, I also noticed that port 6112 has come up as failed on one of the tests. You might want to double-check to ensure this port is completely open and accessible, inbound and outbound.
Thanks for the Game Advisor report! One thing in particular caught my attention which could be the cause of the issue that you’re experiencing:

For the most part, port 6112 appears to be blocked. You may want to ensure that this port is open inbound and outbound to connect to Guild Wars 2 successfully. You may also want to consider bypassing your router to rule out this being a router issue.
If the incident were reported to Support, it would be investigated and may result in punishment if appropriate.

It’s true that this account seems to have been compromised, and if your email is also compromised, the hacker can simply “approve” his/her log-in attempts, which may be what happened. Even if you decline the access requests, the fact is that since you’re receiving them, your credentials are known to a hacker and they must be changed immediately.

Living World is really a broader concept, it’s the idea that Guild Wars 2 is (and will become more so) a truly living game, where the world can change and constantly evolve going forward.
This will come in a lot of different forms. One example of stuff we’ve done in the past is new events, dungeons, guild missions, etc. being added that constantly expand the range of content and experiences. We want to keep doing more and more of this with our world in the future, to constantly provide new exciting things you can discover and experience any time in Gw2.
Another form of this is through special events, things like Halloween, Hunger Games, or Wintersday where content is available for a period of time, is removed from the game when that period is over, and could appear again in the future in some form to help provide unique and fun experiences in the game world.
Finally, the storyline of this type of content going into the world is really the “living story” in a sense for the game. We want to try and theme our releases with storylines and main characters in the game world that have exciting story arcs, a lot of the permanent new content, special events, etc. will all have these core story arcs that drive them in the game world. Much like the story of Halloween drove around the potential return of the Mad King, storyline for our living world releases will play a big part in the content that appears and changes the world as a result.
We want to make this a much bigger part of where Gw2 goes in the future, to give a sense that the world truly can change constantly as you’re playing and every time you login. What we’ve done with Flame and Frost so far is really a very small example of what we view the living world to be as a future possibility for Gw2. Things more along the lines of Halloween, Lost Shores, and Wintersday are stronger examples, along with the new events, guild missions, etc. we’ve added in releases since launch.
The goal is to provide a unifying storyline to the world that ushers this new content into the game, changes the game, and makes the world feel truly alive. It’s like every month your GM is running new scenarios for your gaming group to enjoy, or your favorite TV show is airing new episodes to experience. We’re really barely scratching the surface of what this concept can be for our game, and we’ll be building much more in that in 2013.
I tend to use devourers frequently due to their better defenses and the retreat skill specifically. Sometimes they use it oddly, but more often than not they use it only when an enemy has closed distance and is hitting them, in which case they retreat and I am happier because of it since they can drop aggro and manage themselves a bit more.
