Overall, the Charr story does a better job of making you feel proud of your race and understanding of why you go off to join an Order than the human one does.

If I recall, the charr story was the third one to be implemented. Human and norn were first and second.

AC 2 (Detha) is also consistently bugged with a brick wall progress stopper: if you don’t kill the breeder in the spike trap room on the first try, you are hosed and just wasted X amount of time. Detha will not start the turret repair sequence if you fail to ace the Breeder encounter on the first attempt.

I just tested this out about 6 times and couldn’t get it to happen in the way you describe (let them kill Detha, then succeed the event). Could you give me some more info in the form of a PM? I haven’t heard of this one being reported before either, so I’ll alert our QA team to look into this chain.

I definitely appreciate this level of openness. It is refreshing. I still think that some of the fixes take an odd amount of time (which gave legs to the whole 2 people argument). Again, these kinds of posts are a delight. It’s nice to get a feel for what’s going on. We may not agree with some of the directions but at least there is transparency. I, for one, welcome that. I do however realize that you all are incredibly busy and posting is not always possible. I wish there were just someone actively on the SPvP boards whose entire job was to post here. He could speak for you guys more often and quell the fear of the masses and update us on things going on.

That’s what I’m trying to do. We can’t spend our ENTIRE days on the forums, but we try to make an effort to take a break from development as much as we can to address your questions/ideas/comments/concerns.

And the reality is, you guys go for stretches of time without seeing anything new from us (patch to patch)….so even though we’re making a ton of progress, we can’t show it until it’s ready. Which means there can be long gaps of communication if we’re not careful. But things are still happening, features are being added. We just can’t talk about them until they’re ready.

Thank you so much for this post. I’ve seen that “two developers” comment taken so far as to have people claim that only two people in total work on all of PvP.

It’s ok, given what was said, and the way human communication works, it’s understandable why players were saying that. I just wanted to clear it up a little.

A while ago Jon Peters said something that has been taken out of context. He said that only two people were working on the things he was working on (which was true – but he meant it differently than how it was received) and people have taken that to mean that we only have 2 people working on balance, or PvP, or both (at this point it’s morphed into different things in different threads).

Based on what was said, I understand how it could have been construed, so I wanted to be as transparent as I can be, so that you know what’s happening inside the studio.

PvP
On the PvP team we have programmers, designers, QA and an environment artist (Darrin Claypool – he’s the guy who just finished making Temple of the Silent Storm). Many PvP features need all members of the team, but some are programmer intensive, or art intensive. For example, while we’re still working on custom arenas and other core features (which involve server programmers, UI programmers and gameplay programmers), designers and artists were able to build the recently released “Temple of the Silent Storm”. Because the map required no code, we simply worked with art, design and sound in order to support this map’s needs. Work on custom arenas requires zero environment art, so those two features (custom arenas and a new map) don’t impact one another greatly, as far as work flow goes.

WvW
For WvW, we have a similar setup. We have designers, QA, programmers and environment artists. WvW is a massive piece of the GW2 pie, and the WvW team is able to focus on WvW needs. While many of us in the company may give feedback/ideas/suggestions to the WvW team, they are the ones who actually implement and carry out those changes.

Balance
When it comes to balance, we have multiple people who give feedback/guidance/suggestions, even though a smaller subset actually implement those changes (which is what Jon was saying in his post). After we have balance meetings, a few of the designers implement the changes. If it’s a WvW change, the WvW designer will implement that change. If it’s a PvP change, one of the PvP designers implements it (again, this is what Jon was saying). If it’s strictly a balance change, then we have a designer do it that has the bandwidth (sometimes it’s me, sometime it’s even Izzy, but usually it’s Karl or Peters). Currently, when we have balance meetings, the following people are present in various combinations, depending on the topic:

  1. Jon Peters – game designer
  2. Karl McLain – game designer
  3. Representatives from the WvW team, including QA and design
  4. Representatives from the dungeon teams, including another game designer
  5. Representatives from the live response team, including QA guys who play ALL aspects of the game A LOT
  6. Other representatives from the PvP team, like Tyler Bearce (designer) and Roy Cronacher (QA)
  7. Izzy – lead designer
  8. Myself – game designer

When we’re in those meetings, we’ll talk about hot topics, and issues that are currently a big issue for a certain piece of content. We also listen to high level players, we read the forums (sometimes we even take the best-written posts, print out 10 copies, and bring them to a balance meeting), and we play the game to get a feel for ourselves. Just because you don’t see a change that YOU want, keep in mind that someone else may disagree. Just because we don’t do every single change YOU want, doesn’t mean we don’t care about you or the game. We just try to make the best changes for the greatest number of players.

I just wanted to clear this up to let you guys know a little bit more of what happens here inside the studio so you understand more of what Peters was trying to say. He’s just as busy as we all are, and with a lot of us gone for Thanksgiving (he’s not here right now), I just took it upon myself to try to clear this up a little.

Can anyone tell me who the voice actress was for the character Lionguard Lyns that is standing around the middle of LA? She sounds oddly familar and I can’t quite put my finger on who it is. I don’t think its correct but she sounds a ton like Jackie Tyler from Doctor Who.

so I saw this on the forums: 121115-000111 Account closed (potential fraud issues) and refunded

I was wondering if I bought a new code from guildwars2 site if I could apply it to my account to reactivate it, also can I even use my card or has it blocked. If I don’t hear back from support I will assume my money is no good and you don’t want me to buy from you again.

I updated my ticket with this same question but since I’ve never heard from them I thought I’d post it here as well and maybe Gaile will see it.

Hey all.

We’re going to bring down the res timers from 20 seconds to 15 seconds. A lot of people have posted about how they don’t like the new system, and a lot of people have posted about how they DO like the new system. So, let’s set the record straight:

We want the best system for the game, the best system for the community, and the best system for growing the game’s Esport’s potential.

So we’ll keep an eye on this. If the entire community feels that wave spawn timers are better for the game, then we’ll go back to that. However, right now, it seems that some people like it, feel that it “rewards” each kill (before, someone could die and hit the res wave timer such that they would literally be back in a few seconds) and doesn’t require players to have to memorize the clock wave respawn timings in order to be an effective killer. We’re watching the threads on this issue, so keep posting your thoughts.

TL:DR – We’re listening to you and we’ll iterate on it until we find the best solution for the game overall.

We’ll have account restorations very soon, but unfortunately that doesn’t help this situation, and I’m sorry about that. (We’ve offered the ARS in Guild Wars for two years, and it works very well. It is being redesigned for GW2.)

The issue with your account and your friend’s is an unhappy coincidence, and does not point to any sort of security issue with our game servers, or any sort of access to our database. I know it’s disappointing, and perhaps even hard to believe, that this can happen to you and to a friend. But consider that if this was a security breach, tens if not hundreds of thousands of reports would be coming in, not the dozens that we see a day.

Please take special care to lock up your personal security and you should be ok in the future.

Yes, I might have misunderstood the original issue. XP for kills alone is generally fairly low, and the story intentionally will not automatically level you up to 80 on its own. I’m specifically asking about kills that are worth no XP, or considerably less than same-level kills in the normal world.

Make sure you have cleared out your pickup tab. There is a limit to how many items you can have there at one time. Until you clear it, newly purchased items and gold from sales will not appear.

No excessive hyperbole or inflammatory comments intended or made IMHO.

We can agree to disagree, but when a game bug is represented as rendering a game “non operational” and when someone threatens legal action for a game bug, well, those form pretty solid examples of inflammatory posts and hyperbole.

However, to get back to the point: This is a known issue, has been in the works, and will be corrected.

I’d have to have a specific example of the story step that you saw this on. In cases where a step is farmable we turn off loot/xp so you can’t kill the critters, quit, and play again over and over.

We cannot replace the gold at this time. We are building tools for the future, but replacing guild items or wealth isn’t as high a priority as giving Support the ability to restore individual accounts.

To be honest, the situation that is described in the OP sounds very unlike a bug, but more like someone took the gold. However, having said that, we do intend to review cases such as this for potential tool changes. We will not be able retroactively to give back missing gold, that is important for you to know. But we may be able to offer some sort of remedy for future issues, if such a tool can be devised.

I’m closing this thread, as the questions have been answered.

Linking a new key to existing account?

While I am still angry at the way my former purchase in your online store was handled I’ve decided that I might just buy a physical copy of the game, I’m bored.
How would I go about linking the new key to my existing account then? The options on my account page is after all severely limited and hardly very informative.
Or can I just create a new account with the same email, since I never actually got to play at all the other time around that would not bother me.

PS: More for support ticket people really. When you respond to a buyer who has had his/her purchase flagged as fraudulent, despite them saying that is not the case etc, use a better and more polite wording in the ticket response. Being accused of fraud is simply very offensive to some people, especially when they are innocent.
Just say that “An issue was encountered with your payment and we did not receive it properly which may be due to a number of reasons, bank error, a system error on our side or something else. We recommend purchasing a physical copy from a retail store and using that serial key to verify your account.” or something similiar.
That response would not have pissed anyone off most of the time, especially if they get refunded and its done quickly.

I like your feedback! I hate to say “You’re flagged for fraud” when it could be something completely outside their control, like the bank refusing to pay, a bug on our side, any number of things. So thank you for sharing these insights, which pretty much give me a good excuse to drive the amendment of our messaging.

Secondly, if your support response said that the account is being released to you, you should be able to simply go to Account Management and add the new code, since the old one was disabled and refunded. If you cannot do that, then update your Support ticket to ask the team to help you.

BTW, please don’t threaten lawsuits in the forums. Once that happens, the forum thread is likely to be closed without response, aside from providing you with the contact information for our legal counsel. If you want solutions, avoid that sort of commentary.

Broken Game would mean it is unplayable. Simply not giving buffs (that are not required to progress in the game) does not make the whole game broken

My brother’s account was released and he send a new serial code for reactivate it but after 3 days again nothing. He can’t play from 21 days.

Zack, I looked at the ticket. Has your brother tried accessing the account through the Account Management page and adding the new serial code? He may not need to have Support do that; he may be able to do that himself.

Hi there. I have good news and bad news. We’ll uncensor the character names. Keep in mind that sometimes, a person reports a name because the chat used by the character makes it clear they’ve chosen the name as a means to offend. I don’t think that’s the case here, though, so we’re good on those names.

However, we need to change the Display Name. The word “spastic” (no matter the “creative spelling”) is generally considered to be offensive, and because display names are in the game and in the forums, we’re particularly sensitive to the potential offense that they present. (Yes, I’m aware that the word is used casually, like a lot of people use “ kitten #8221; in a casual sense, but both are disallowed because there’s really no good reason to use them.)

Character names: Ok (as long as they are not coupled with offensive behavior or chat)
Display name: Anagramed to “Tap Skis.8240”

As Eva mentioned earlier, we’re working to fix this issue. To assist us in doing so, we’d like to try and identify commonalities between everyone experiencing this.

For starters, what race, gender, and profession are you? Which server are you on?

Here’s what I’m getting from what’s been reported so far:

  • Occurs in PvE, PvP, and WvW, but encountered most frequently in PvP due to how often players reload the same zone.
  • Occurs when reloading into the current zone and not or when entering a new zone.

Additionally, if there are any steps you can take to consistently reproduce this issue, please let us know as it would help us to identify the root of the problem. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

I want to buy a new gw2 key for my husband. I found a cheap key for only 40 euro on CJS and Offgamers. Can i buy it from them, are the keys legit?

Every time gw2 receives an expansion, is it free, or do i have to purchase it?
- If is not free, then what is the cost of expansion?
-How often(per year) will the game be updated with paid expansions?

We have had a lot of issues with fraudulent codes. In fact, it’s fair to say that the vast majority of codes purchased from unauthorized sellers are invalid, and even if the account is created, it ultimately will be closed. I strongly encourage you to purchase directly from support.guildwars2.com or from any of our authorized retailers.

We do try to communicate when we’re acting on a post. That does not mean you’re “penalized” but simply lets you know that something took place. For instance, “Deleted — duplicate post” doesn’t mean you got a disciplinary action, it just tells you that you double posted and one was removed.

Thanks for these updates. I’m so happy it’s sorting out for most of you. Now, we’re aware of a few people who are still having issues, and I wanted to add a bit more info, from the programmer involved in the fix. (Yay, Ramsey!)

If you’re still having issues, please allow another day for the DNS to propagate. If you’re still having trouble after, say, Noon Pacific (8:00 PM GMT) on Wednesday, then by all means post again and we’ll look into the matter.
