A Message About the Infraction System

The infraction system is a simple system. Infractions that do not include points (known as zero-point infractions) serve as friendly reminders to follow the Code of Conduct you agreed to abide by when your account was created. Infractions with points are more serious and start a tally on your account. When that tally reaches a certain threshold of points, a suspension is given. Higher number plateaus result in suspensions of ever-increasing durations, eventually resulting in a permanent ban from the forums. With the exception of banned accounts, infraction points eventually expire.

There are a number of reasons we do not list out every detail about the infraction system we have. The main reason is that such knowledge could be used to manipulate the system. Players could abuse their fellow players for X amount of posts and then stop to wait until an infraction point on their account expired before they started in again. Using this manner, a person could avoid any real punishment.

The other reason ties into why we don’t allow discussion of moderation on the forums, even when the originating request of such a discussion is a genuine desire for knowledge. Believe it or not, some players would use it as bragging rights. Players would push the system to the edge to ensure they got to behave however they wished without facing any consequences. This simply will not be allowed to happen.

Rest assured though, it takes far more than a single minor infraction to result in a temporary suspension. It takes even more to have your forum privileges permanently revoked!

So how do you avoid getting infractions? It’s pretty simple really. Be sure to review the Code of Conduct and follow those rules. If someone violates those rules, rather than doing the same and getting yourself into trouble, simply report the post or thread in question so the Community team can investigate it.

Hey,

I was on this morning and was suddenly disconnected from the game. Ever since then, I’ve been unable to log back into the game.. It’s not client-side (since.. you know, I’m posting this using the same ISP as I logged into the game earlier with)… so what’s up?

By “unable to log back into the game” I mean: I click log in, but the loading symbol just keeps painting a continuous circle like it is not connecting at all..

Was just wondering if others are having this problem.

EDIT Waiting a bit it did give me “Unable to authenticate your playing privileges” or something like that… followed by “Connection Failed”

I’m a bit concerned unless this is just because the servers are packed from a bunch of people logging in for the Halloween event?

You could be running into the holiday traffic, but I am concerned about your account. I suggest you contact Support — support.guildwars2.com — and use “Ask a Question” to submit a ticket.

The accounts you see being used by botters are often stolen. And that is why the account is closed, so that the real owner can reclaim the account and get back to playing.

If an account is “terminated” for use of a third-party program, and if the account provably was hacked, the owner will suffer no repercussions except for the time it takes to reinstate, which is usually running under 48 hours.

It’s a bug. We saw the video and have a fix already but because the build is underway and we need time to test it, and because this is kitten hard to do reliably it will be some time before it goes in.

Pretty much, yes. On the release page, the phases are periods of time and not necessarily specific times. There are, however, instances of things that only occur once and that’s all I’m really going to say about that. You’ll just have to log in and see.

As far as next year, I have no idea. I suppose it depends on the success of the content and the items from this year, etc. Since we are telling a specific story with this event, I can only assume that next year will be somewhat different, if only because I’d like to take the opportunity to tell a new Halloween story.

Along with the upcoming build we will be making some server side changes to tournaments. This may go live a bit before the build so I wanted to give some warning.

1) down time between rounds is being reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.
2) Glory and rank rewards are increasing
Free
a) 1st place was 300, will now be 400 glory/rank
b) 2nd place was 200, will now be 300
c) 3rd and 4th place was 100, will now be 200
Paid
a) 1st place was 360, will now be 500 glory/rank
b) 2nd place was 240, will now be 400

In the interest of allowing the worlds to have a place to discuss their matches, we’re going to re-open this thread one last time.

Let me be perfectly clear here first though – we have taken the time to clean this thread up, and trust me, there was a lot to be cleaned out.

These threads are for discussing WvWvW calmly, constructively, and without personal attacks. If you can’t show good sportsmanship, refrain from calling players or guilds out on what you perceive to be cheats or unjust actions, and be polite, this thread is not for you.

I have re-opened this thread, but note that it comes with a caveat… players ignoring the Code of Conduct will not be given a free or lenient path. Hi Stormie – If you’re still experiencing this issue I’d like for you to try a Winsock reset. To do so:

1. Click the “Start” button to bring up the Start Menu.

2. Type in CMD into the “Search programs and files” field but do not hit enter. Doing this will change your start menu to show the program “cmd.exe.”

3. Right-click on “cmd.exe” and select “Run as Administrator.”

4. Type “netsh winsock show catalog >C:\LSP.txt” without the quotes. This will save a file to the root of your C drive called LSP.txt. Please attach that file to this ticket. (We would like this report even if the issue is resolved)

5. Once complete, type “netsh winsock reset” without the quotes. When the command is completed successfully, a confirmation appears, followed by a new command prompt line.

Once completed, please try connecting again.

Hi elvenninja – This looks like the “Out of Memory” crash experienced by players with 32-bit operating systems. Turning down your graphics settings or updating to a 64-bit operating system may resolve the issue for you.

Additionally, it looks like you’re getting a few errors in that ArenaNet.log file. Generally the “File: ..\..\..\Game\Main\MainCli.cpp(584)” crash means that you’re overclocking your hardware, usually the CPU. If you are over-clocking at all I would recommend returning your hardware back to stock settings or even underclocking if they came factory overclocked.

Hi boster, are you still experiencing this issue? If so, I would like for you to try a command that works for some players who are on campus networks. To do this:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.

2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”

3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”

4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”

5. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end.

Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”

6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.

Do you have “Fast cast ground targeting” turned on options? It will use the mouse cursor’s position to place ground targeted effects, so no targeting circle is shown, and if your cursor is not on a valid target (i.e. it’s pointing at the sky or a distant object) it will give the “out of range” error.

This is a standard message that a random 40% of our players are shown on launching the game. This number will rise to 100% soon. This means if you haven’t changed your password since we added a “blacklist” of known/stolen credentials in mid-September, you’ll be asked to change not because you’re necessarily at risk, but because changing is a good thing in case your password was on the blacklist. (To say that a different way, it’s a proactive security measure and not a sign that you’ve been hacked.)

Please read this article about account security for more information and valuable insight into good account security.

Also note that this is not a sign that your account is at risk and not an indication that the Guild Wars 2 servers are being attacked. (Getting emails from us listing suspicious access attempts is of greater concern.)

Hi Symiel – If a Winsock reset didn’t resolve the issue for you the issue may be with AVG as it does have compatibility issues with the game client. You may need to look into configuring it to allow Guild Wars 2.

AV and Keylogger detection systems are sometimes not quite up to date. They’re great, but they don’t catch everything (because they are reactive and hackers can keep ahead of the detection game).

The account is closed pending review of your wife’s support ticket.

So on the bright side there’s a bunch of new content being released concurrently with this update that will remain in the game forever. And while I’m vastly empathetic to your specific situation, we do, unfortunately, have to deactivate Halloween eventually. I’m afraid that no matter when we do it, we’ll be cutting some players off before they get a chance to see it. But fear not, content and special event updates are going to be a regular thing in Guild Wars 2. This is but a single episode of this story.

1) You kind of don’t. A big part of Guild Wars 2 is discovery and exploration, and we believe that it’s fun enough to not simply hand the players a list of everything they can do.

2) There’s about 10 questions in this one, so briefly: I never said that max level crafting wasn’t required, I just said that you don’t necessarily need to be a max weaponsmith. Also, I think there will be plenty of time/methods to acquire enough holiday-specific items to craft these weapons.

3) I don’t know the specific chance, sorry.

4) Possibly, the market will decide.

5) Again, discovery plays a part in it. But your best bet is to go to Lion’s Arch. There should be some information clearly available there.

The launcher should open a maximum of two connections when permitted to do its job. What you are seeing is definitely not “by design” behavior, but then again, your “test” is not really testing what the game does under normal circumstances.

BiJay is absolutely correct. By blocking these connections you’re not just exacerbating the issue, but creating it; the game will attempt to connect to multiple different endpoints if one connection fails.

For the record, I see a total of 2 outbound connection attempts when running a similar test myself, without blocking the connections.

Also, the reason for the launcher’s resource usage is well known: it’s rendered at high framerates and the transparency blending effect is not computationally cheap.

They’re planning a modest change to the map that will make it easier for you to see what you’ve done via the World Map. This change will roll out in a build in the near future.

Hey guys, since there’s been a lot of questions, here’s the deal with the weapon skins. Basically there are two types of weapons for this event:

  • Craftable – There are a number of weapons that can be crafted from materials that come from Halloween content. They are exotic and they have their own stats. You can craft these at any time of the year, but there are certain components that will only drop during Halloween. Since these weapons are really cool, we allow you to rent them from an in-game vendor in Lion’s Arch. They’re pretty cheap (you can buy them without paying gold) and yes, they expire in four hours. Basically, everyone will have a chance to get in the spirit of the season. To that effect, these weapons have auto-scaling stats but you can’t transmute them. For those of you who want to stay “festive” all year round, you’ll have to delve in the content and put the weapons together.
  • Purchasable Skins – These are available in the Black Lion Chests. They are a one-time use skin that you can apply to anything, I believe, and from there transmute that appearance to something else if you need to. You cannot rent these from that vendor in Lion’s Arch.

There’s also a bunch more gear, goodies, and crafting recipes to be discovered in the content itself!
