Guild wars 2 vs Black desert

I don’t know what people expected from a Korean grinder. Mind you I’m sure Black Desert will have people who like that style of play, but I knew as time went on that it would eventually consume itself. It’s the nature of the beast.

We’ve seen it time and time again, games that were going to kill this game. Neverwinter, ESO, Archeage, Wildstar, Blade and Soul and now Black Desert. Why hasn’t it happened?

Because it’s easier to make an MMO sound cool than it is to produce a really cool MMO. Words are always easy.

And the biggest potential threat of them all, Everquest Next, was just cancelled before it ever launched. The stated reason?

Though the game looked great on paper, when they put it all together they found it wasn’t fun.

Yes, the game has it’s flaws, but it’s done a whole lot of things right too, and often doesn’t get credit for that.

I think eastern mmos biggest downfall is their lack of solid ui and combat integration. All the ones ive played just feel off no matter how actiony or praised the combat is. Gw2 captured that immersive feel when youre behind your character that wow did for its popularity. That is in my opinion what swtor lacked and failed from, because it had the potential to go the distance.

You stated that Guild Wars 2 has tons of fun events (content), but there is no reason to do it. Perhaps, the reason to do it would be because it is fun. I mean, that’s why I play games, of any kind…because it’s fun!

^
And not to mention the compensation of these big events in gold and mastery experience. Its mainly about fun but anet built in light compensation for everything you do just to keep you going.

I would post a thread titled “Why Guild Wars 2 is the best mmorpg” and hit on topics you posted above but thats just opinion and youre on a gw2 forum, who is to convince, everyone on here plays the game already anyway.

Crystal desert, kralk boss. They need to do this next because the lore has already set it up and it will be anets way to win over all the whiners going at it recently. They just need a good balance of attention to many game modes so that people dont feel too left out.
The story in crystal desert is really interesting with palawa joko and kralk. Maguuma was unknown and uninteresting so they need to pick it up and get strong base lore going. Enough of this scarlet storyline pick up and go style writing. Theres alot of history in CD waiting to pull tons of new players into this game.

A few months ago, SuperData Research estimated the active monthly population to be at 3.1 million.

^this
Theres no way for us to know any exact number. But this data is all we have recently for player numbers directly and it gives us the best estimate regardless of opinions based on this number. That being said we know at most 3 million people play the game monthly but accounting for multiple accounts and ‘once a monthers/gold sellers’ the most likely number of unique players on the game at least casually is probably not terribly far from that number. Ide throw a rough guess at 2 to 2.5 million people play the game at least casually.

We can skip the opinion and flame part of this post and just end it with “This is what you should expect to see.”

- every map has a decent number of players. (I always run into other players regardless of map or where i am on a map)
– during prime time spots like world bosses are loaded beyond anything ive seen in any other mmorpg (have played most of the popular ones)
– wvw is pretty open and devoid of player density so join a tier 1 wvw server if you want to see large scale action. (For Na its jade quarry, blackgate, and yaks bend)
– pvp only area is loaded with players to join and play against.

anet didn’t provide the numbers
did you even read the article at all?
“SuperData Research CEO Joost van Dreunen”

sophomoric indeed

I guess i missed that but i can admit to that. Whether a company ceo would lie is up to question. We know it isnt anet promoting their own game then. But you really enjoy rubbing people the wrong way dont you. Theres really no winners in forum debates and yet you play a soap box stance on your matter. Leave the little insults out and maybe youll learn to have an adult conversation. Go back and show me any point where i insult your ideas. People grow up eventually so i have hope for you.

wow….lol

just to make things clear. you are the one who started putting words in my statement like devaluing? wow. really. then, you start to use the so-called “rhetoric” reply to prove your “point” and finally, you claim it to be more “logical”. i don’t know, there is really nothing adult about that, it is more like someone trying real hard to say they are right and going all out to protect anet while attempting to give a impression that there is no right or wrong. all in all, attempt to make others look like a villain while looking like a great fellow.

furthermore, looking at your posts history, you didn’t participant in forums much and look, you going real hard at it.

you know, if you actually made objective discussion which is what being done here instead of those, that will be different.

to your question, ceo does not lie but analysis is analysis, it is never accurate. trend can be said to be directional accurate but numbers will never be do. so when they say active is doubled, sure, the trend is going up but doubled or not, no1 can say for sure. so when they say 3.1 million, that is never a accurate number and will be far from accurate. also, how is their MAU calculated? no1 knows

game companies nowadays rarely will report the MAU to public. unless the games are on steam or similar platform which subject to their online count features.

Everything was fine until you posted nitpicking my word usage and insulting my argument. Me saying mine is more logical is way different than you saying mine is juvenile. See what im saying there? Keep that crap to yourself and just say everything else. Its childish to bring those type of words into debates and you could of easily made your point without it. I chose to ignore your first attack and you kept at it. You should have just left me out of your posts at that point. As for going into my post history im sorry for what nerve i struck but youre taking this too personally. Im sorry so lets just move on. So, you said Yes, and how many different “foundations” have they laid at this point, only to completely ‘revamp’ the system again later? and now you want them to drop this foundation they’ve laid for the rest of the game and revamp it again to only LS.

No. The foundations they have already built can be improved and iterated on in Feature Packs just like they were before the expansion ever came along. They introduced plenty of new systems with that method, and we didn’t have to deal with enormous content droughts to receive said content.

I would say they should beef up to a monthly content release schedule just to strike a balance between these two methods they have employed. Work on an expansion but release unique content once a month.

In a perfect world, I would like this as well, but I worry that we will be worse off for both if they go this route—whether it be because of not enough manpower or some other barrier, it seems that this split-focus has struggled to make this game flourish in either capacity, in my opinion.

Well i believe they have the intelligence to set a schedule they can handle or hire new people for monthly. But we would all love it so much if they decided to go this route. They really have the groundwork set for such an amazing game. As mmoers we always want more and once they hammer out the right schedule we will be happy.

The nature of mmos are ups and downs but the fact that anet released any information on their userbase is a sign of strength. Blizzard couldnt keep projecting strength with sub numbers anymore so they quit that game. Anet obviously had struggling numbers around 2013-2015 but they pulled it together and got them up. We wouldnt be having this discussion if they hadnt done something right and had a generally healthy view of the game. They didnt have to post numbers on their gamewide base during the pvp article that it was mentioned in. They could of easily rehashed their claim that pvp participation has jumped by a large margin. The most important thing here is passing the information along. I would of liked to know this so I passed it on to someone who didnt as well.

They can make living story work easily. They just have to add content that inspires people and doesnt bore them. If one of their LS releases was a map like dragons stand that would be a hit to be praised over. They were basically learning back then. An expansion should still be in the works because they have important impacts on game life spans and revenue obviously.

I totally understand why youre suggesting this because the biweekly release schedule was amazing for consistent players like myself. It kept things just interesting enough to keep coming back. The expansion did release alot of really fun stuff but it certainly lacks the consistency we had back then. I would say they should beef up to a monthly content release schedule just to strike a balance between these two methods they have employed. Work on an expansion but release unique content once a month.

The only relevant information Anet has released about it’s playerbase is here.

According to that blog post, at the peak of the games popularity there were 460k concurrent players.

The player population has obviously decreased since then (ie. megaservers). If I were to guess, GW2 might be as popular as TF2 is right now, and that game has around 50k peak concurrent users most days according to steam stats.

The reason this statement recently has value is because regardless how the number 3.1 million in monthly unique account logins is interpreted, its growing at a very steady rate which is exactly what anet is after. If people want an update on this games playerbase then this release 4 months ago that i just ran into a week ago is very relevant and i would want to hear about it.

oh, you mean by forcing people to accept your words while twisting their words? is that so? i see, that is so….so that what it is…

Youre really misunderstanding my rhetoric. You can have your opinion. Your opinion could be right. Im saying mine is more logical because it doesnt base itself on personal experiences. And more players is a good thing. Life is too short to always be cynical. Look at 3.1 mil as a positive thing. If you just want anet to fail then dont bother debating with me because that is pointless

Right at the bottom of the article you will get your answer. And this is approaching 4 -5 months ago.

but that number is questionable
due to multi account holders, bots and also f2p users who create an account then quit after playing a few days or a week.

i hope we can know the average online count so we can have a better understanding where gw2 is standing at now

You call the numbers in the link meaningless for containing F2P accounts that quit after a week, multi account holders, and bots. How would an average online count be any different? It would contain the same things you’re using to discount the previous figures.

Ok so you two base your position on your feelings and im going to base mine on these factual numbers regardless of your opinion on them. Gw2 is the healthiest mmorpg right now and for the forseeable future and all you have to do is log into maps and join events to see for yourself.

I wasn’t discounting any numbers released from Anet though.

Good. Im excited gw2 is the biggest mmorpg at the moment. Its about time wow takes a seat for the crappy game it truely is. You call the numbers in the link meaningless for containing F2P accounts that quit after a week, multi account holders, and bots. How would an average online count be any different? It would contain the same things you’re using to discount the previous figures.

it is simple, very simple
the millions of account logon monthly seems really impressive on paper, truly impressive

however, by looking at the actual average online count
you reduce the possibilities of multiple logons from the same users and give a better insights of the number of active users who play multiple hours instead of simply logon and then logoff.

of course, when im talking about average online count, im not talking about by monthly, im talking about by hours. a real time online count will be even more awesome.

the only reasons why media choose to use number of people by monthly is just purely to impress people with big numbers. is a marketing thing

3.1 million monthly active UNIQUE accounts log in. The argument that accounts can log in once and never again can be made but it eliminates any argument against one account logging in multiple times. Im one of those 3.1 million. Not 300 of them cause i logged in 300 times.

They want armor weights to look different from each other hence the aetherblade situation. BUT posting requests for normal skintight pants like on the aeather heavy armorset is reasonable. The baggy embroidered dont suit your style. Just keep posting and letting anet know your desires and DONT bring in stupid arguments like ampa did. How about no sub and try to be nothing like wow as it is a failure as a template due to the inability for anyone to recreate its success. It should never be used as a model because the gameplay isnt its strong point. The investment of the players and atmosphere are and you cant copy that without copyright infringement. The only mmo that can follow that old crap model is wow 2 with all the characters and places the fans love.
Simple fact is content and gameplay in gw is just all around better and should be the mainstream model such as upcoming Black Desert Online is doing modeling gw combat which i totally agree with.
There will never be another wow situation even for blizzard because it was at a good time for release and they built the atmosphere over a decade with the RTS warcraft games. Gameplay is dated and nothing to lose yourself over… Basically why I left

I bring up valid points regarding actual content as to why wow needs to stop being brought up and you just sit on sub numbers for the game, thats the problem with this argument. Anyone would agree wows combat is nothing to cheer at, infact its pretty weak compared to most of the more recent mmos. Anet going sub wouldnt change these facts and their design direction so drop wow. Gw is the evolution and wow will keep its fanbase until they move on. I was more of a wow fan then most and when gw came out wow has been as good as dead for me.
This is a gw forum. Talk about gw and what you want to see specifically. Not what a game that will fail in any other attempt would do. Cause the fact that wow couldnt be recreated shows its weak gameplay. People just love the atmosphere of that particular world.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aarean.5398

Can we stop bringing up wow as a competitive example. The game is at 10 years now and still runs a crappy unengaging combat system where you spend 80% of the time staring at a hotbar. Gw2 doesnt need big revamps because the gameplay is extremely well structured as is. Thank god they dont have major class balance changes every couple of months like wow.

On top of this the content gw brings is a building journey, it doesnt release all the way to the climax like expansions in other games. You have to wait for big fights like the scarlet raid which beat the hell out of wows lame tank and spank raids with some specific boss mechanics to be aware of, which the addon system ruins by trivialising anyway.

Close the thread as its just devolving to a match of who can whine the loudest.
