Random builds into Ranked...

Alatar.7364

The great thing about GW2 is how people don’t have to agree with a website how they should play the game.

Plenty of off meta things became meta precisely for that reason.

True.
But I think that OP is talking about complete kitten builds and their usefulness and contribution in Ranked.
Current Metas were almost all obviously good from start. Not like D/P Condi or Condi Druid (which happens to be quite good in WvW =D)
or Thief with Smoke screen on Downed, etc.

Legendary PvP Armor Thoughts

in PvP

Posted by: Alatar.7364

Alatar.7364

These entitlement posts are tiresome. If you want those, play PvE. It’s already great that we have cheap/accessible legendary armors in PvP/WvW.

I don’t know about that. I agree with OP.
Legendary armor should express Game-mode and wearers Experience/ Status with it, not just cheap uninteresting look. PvPers do not need the Armor stats so it doesn’t make that much sense for them to craft Legendary armor apart for “PvP-like Skin”.
But then, it is just one step away from PvP Legendary Weapons aswell, which would just be bad.
So, I do not literally mind the PvP Armor being absolutely boring, but it is the one reason I won’t craft it, even though I’d have a great use for it.

PS: Let’s face it, Legendary was never about anything else but Skin and “Status”.

The game is rather easy and fun right up to the high level end game.
Once you reach end-game, the High level Fractals and especialy Raids are very very hard to learn and complete. But it is totaly great for team play when you have people willing to learn thing or two and people willing to show you how-to high-end end-game.

I’d explain it with more details but don’t have the time at the moment, I hope somebod else will show you!

Class Reccomendations

You definitely sound like Revenant. Buffs the party while having high DMG. You buff the party dmg/survivability/speed by using same skills to deal dmg or heal self. Better wiki it up for better explanation.

If not Revenant then Guardian might be totally for you as well. Provides survivability buffs and better advantages for party to fight such as stability, etc.

Lastly Ranger with Druid spec, but of the three, this one is the most distant one to what you describe. Provides high healing amounts, but not much dmg buffs except Grace of the Land or any other survival buffs.

Saltiness and Toxicity

Thief can delay the full cap and if they don’t send anyone to your home you start with a 1-0 cap for a few ticks.

Thief is absolutely not ment to be delaying any caps at all. Not to mention Thief wont be even able to stay in the area of Node long enough to make it even worth it as by now, your team is dying in 4v3 at Mid.

That being said a thief going home will lose the cap giving them a 2-0 cap.

Disagree.
Thief going home and having INC will bail Close and win Mid thanks to +1. Leaving you with 2-1 cap and a 5v2 in your favor, which can be rotated pretty quickly

Thief going mid with someone else going far can work better b/c Thief can rotate home/far based on their split

True, but if we are speaking of Meta Thief in Rank, then such Thief is in no way supposed to be in Team fight. IF somebody is going Far a Thief should go, too. Making it 2v1. Yet, your team will be 2v4 at Mid (in other scenario 2v3) which is just plain bad aswell. So in my opinion 2 Far/1 Close/ 2 Mid Scenario should be done only with a heavy sustain team, or just not Mid at all. It can always turn in to a Nightmare especialy in Legacy of the Foefire.

You do realize a thief won’t insta die in a 1v1? Any competent thief can keep a node contest for enough time for home to cap & for gain a point advantage. Yes a 2v1 on far on open is prolly the best split.

You automatically assume giving up a 2v4 or 3/4 at mid is a bad thing. You should have enough support & player skill to stall enemy cap & rotate off w/out dying.

It is not about Thief dying, it is about Thief not having enough defensives to stay on node long enough to make it worth for the Team to be outnumbered that entire time. Dodges are no ultimate tool and can be still easily put off.

You say that any competent Thief can keep a node contest, that is true but in Rank about everyone is/ should be competent, so any competent player will indeed insta kill Thief, cause the Thief being competent is actually his abillity to get away from danger not stay in the danger.

We might have different experience in this matter, but I have never seen this to pay out.

4v2 at Mid will be such an insta death for your Team that you won’t be even half way back to Mid and they will be dead already. Unless, as I said, there is heavy sustain or kite such as Ele and Shoutbow Druid, etc. etc. But since you now have Close/Far It’s fine, I guess.
4v3 Scenario could be pulled off as you said, but I still do not think that it is worth trying. I mean, if you are really good you can go Far, do 1v1 and seriously try to Kill instead of surviving, but both are quite unlikely to happen and highly risky.

Well World Exploration is the fastest way. But if you don’t like that you can try:

  • Do Meta Events (Chained events)
  • Do World-bosses
  • Do lots of PvP/WvW to get the Tomes of Knowledge from the Reward Tracks, it is quite fast as well in my opinion.
  • Do Dungeons
  • Level up crafting disciplines. It can get you only few Character levels and will cost a lot, so not the best way.

Can’t think of anything else at the moment.

Saltiness and Toxicity

I have never addressed or responded to posts about how Anet targets people to bring them down, because when someone actually thinks/ believes that, then there is absolutely no chance to reason with such person.

I completely agree with the Scenarios and Opinions that you have stated, but truth is that this is a purely Human factor and it is never ever going to change because people are of many personalities and characters, even the most curious thoughts are to be found amongst us.
Funny is that I have seen tons of posts where OP/ people actually blamed Anet for toxic people as well. This alone is a proof that anything is possible with human mind, thus there will forever be toxic people same as people willing to help out.

Toxic people exist in any competitive game in large amounts…. However.

ArenaNets multiple failures to properly balance and support PvP content has arrived at a much smaller pool of players to be matched with. Match quality has suffered because of this smaller pool of players and this does plenty to really bring out the toxicity.

ArenaNet’s power creeping, the ESL drop… Consistently this company has caused people to discount PvP as an absolute joke. It doesn’t stand up to other titles. In addition to simple toxicity, there is a giant sense of apathy.

Being toxic/insultive toward others is a choice not an outcome. I, as everyone else, am affected by imbalance and failures, yet I did not turn to insult people around me for their gameplay and skill.
By what you say, the outcome would be/ should be people being angry with Anet and not with one another.
If I fire a gun, people will blame me, not the gun or bullet.
I hope we did not misunderstood each other

S/d Condi needs to go

Alatar.7364

Anybody else find it funny how this post goes on for a total of 150 posts?
This alone IS a proof that there might be problem to be considered with S/D.
I think, as stated in a post before, that S/D indeed is overperforming, however it is not unbeatably overpowered as is claimed by many.
Those Many who claim that do not actually say from an objective view but from a subjective one. I believe they say that because they go and fight the S/D for no reason and die for no reason while much more logical approach was not to engage with S/D or if being engaged then do the best to run as you have to admit that you will most likely lose the fight, overcome the Ego telling you to prove how you are better, and run. It is a basic tactic that will most likely render your Victorious at the end, which is what matters. You would not engage in absolutely uneven or disadvantagous battles in reality as well (should you lead an Army or something)

I run away from S/D all the time and the time I just managed not-to-waste, go decap or +1, is what makes the difference. If I gave in to my pride I would not only suffer more but also make my team suffer as well.
Go with a bit of strategy/ tactic and the overperformance of S/D in single fights (1v1s) won’t matter at all in comparasion to what actually has to be done in order to actually Win.

More DPS than Guardian. Much more Weapons available to Warrior than to Guardian, allowing Warrior to act in more different Scenarios.

Guardian
Less DPS than Warrior. Much better sustain. Partialy focused on providing Team support with different boons and heals unlike Warrior.

Warrior is currently being used for Might stacking and DPS.
Guardian for boon stacking (like Stability, Aegis, Swiftness, etc.) and sustain.

I advise against buying Airship pass, it is useless.
Holographic wings can be bought of trading post for very little gold.
Maybe you could save the tokens in case you will need the Vision Crystals.
Selfless potion is very nice, also it can be “equipped” even during PvP matches, which is just cute.

NERF Thief Shortbow 5

What the hell did I just … ?
I am not sure what is worst.
Is it that you complain about being killed by Thief when he/ she attacks you when you are very low on Health or that you’ve played 10 000 hours just on Thief and in just 5 years?
I mean, it is totaly not my place to judge others, but… you might have lost some braincells due to excesive amount if time spent playing per day, resulting in post/ suggestion like this.

Honestly I have faced good Thieves in matches where I was not playing my Main, and in 90% of cases they did not get away simply because I know what a CC is or atleast when to use it. It comes down to how fast are you able to react.

And No. A 20% HP Thief running away is really not going to magically +1 anyone, cause all that random DMG floating around in team-fights tends to kill 100% Thief, let alone 20%.

And No. A 20% HP Thief running away is really not going to magically provide its team a + Points by decapping as the Thief just rendered the fights in to 5v4 in your favor, by not being able to kill you, leaving you alive and not being able to join any fights effectively due to Thief having low health, not the mention the time Thief just wasted by trying to kill you, becoming the most useless member of the Enemy Team simply by not playing the Thief in the way it is currently fit for Conquest.

Ergo:

Scenario A – Anybody, even the worst players of worst classes will kill you when you are low on Health and with Defensive skills on cooldown, because you are low on Health and with Defensive skills on cooldown.

Scenario B – Congratulations! You just gained short-time advantage that can be quickly used to destroy Enemy team and break its rotations!

Give us more game modes

in PvP

Posted by: Alatar.7364

Alatar.7364

We had different maps but players refused them.

1) Countryard, a map where you have to Kill the enemy to obtain points and win.
Not the best map ever but well designet. Everyone hated that map because no one wanted to change his build to be able to play this game mode and after tons of comlaining ANet removed that map Even from Unranked.
Basicly, Players wanted to remove that map and that game mode because they didn’t wanted to adapt a little to be able to play it.

2) Stronghold. A well planned map with a totally different mechanic from the main score system.
Everyone hated it because “have too much PvE” inside it. No one wanted to change they’re builds to adapt to this game mode and players was unhappy about the NPC part of the map mechanic.
ANet made a totally different queue for that map to make players able to chose between the common game mode and that one, unlike they did for Countryard. Actually only Few players play Stronghold because no one want to adapt his build to this game mode and play a little different than a common match.

ANet did different try to make players play in a different way than they actually do, adding maps with different mechanics that force a little players to score point in a different way (spirit watch for exampls). No one want them and everyone want to play only the 2-3 old maps that everyone love and hate, crying if someone chose a different map.

ANet made different ways to play but GW2 players don’t like to change a little they’re behaviours only to play a different game mode.

Don’t ask to ANet to make something different to what we have now because isn’t ANet that don’t want to grant us different things, there’s only players too lazy to try something different and have fun.

I have always loved Courtyard and enjoy Stronghold.
While I do know people complained a lot about Stronghold, I definitely don’t remember people to be complaining about Courtyard, quite the opposite actually.
Player’s complaining about design is not a reason to not do new designs/ modes, it is actually sort of annoying feedback that should enable devs to create something new/ optimal, rather than not do anything.

Follow the Story of HoT, you will definitely understand everything along the way. Gliding is very fast and easy to unlock. Mastery system works simillar to Level system. First you need to gain enough experience to allowed to spend Mastery points to unlock some abillity, then you need enough Mastery points to unlock it. Mastery points are recieved either for completing Achievements (check your achievement tab), completing Story instances or by completing various challenges throughout all of the HoT maps in a very simillar way as Hero points.

Note that you have to be lvl 80 to access Mastery system and to be able to survive in HoT maps.

It is not a bug, Regeneration is not supposed to trigger Lingering Light trait. It can be only triggered by direct healing, such as the Ancestral Grace that you mentioned.

Invigorating Bond
I know of no Bug with this Trait. It works just fine.
How exactly are you trying to get it work? This trait has a Radius of 300, meaning you have to be standing close to your pet in order to recieve the Healing.
Also, it has its own Internal Cooldown, so once used, it might not be ready to be triggered again once you activate your F2 again.

Lost Returning player, stupid questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Alatar.7364

Alatar.7364

It is not clear to me whether you have Heart of Thorns expansion or not, but I will assume you don’t.

Profession
Warrior, Elementalist and Guardian will propably be forever meta. However, I am quite sure that “to be meta” you would have to have a HoT. Yet, those 3 will still propably be the best choice for Core builds, if you want to be useful and/ or required in Dungeons, Fractals or Raids.

#1
Map exploration is Sould Bound per each charactet, to allow you obtain as many Gifts of Exploration as you’d need, should you desire to craft multiple Legendary weapons.

#2
Not yet, play around with some Professions and boost only those you enjoy. Later on you can try playing the rest of the Professions and see if they are worth spending your time with boosting, etc.

#3
You can swap it throught the bank to another character.

#4
It will most definitely make the game easier to traverse however by boosting to lvl 80 you won’t unlock Gliding. It will only unlock Mastery system and its abbilites. To Glide you will first have to unlock this abbility through Masteries in HoT maps.
PS: As I said, I am not sure if you do own Heart of Thorns expansion, so out of cation I’ll point out that to be able to Glide you need to buy that Expansion

#5
There is absolutely no Item in Black Lion Trading company Gem Store, that is a Must have in fact all of them are Cosmetic stuff and/ or Quality of Life stuff.
Unbreakable tools are definitely a nice comfort, but in no way requirement, it is just supposed to give you relief from having to seek out vendor every time you run out of those tools, but will not provide any advantage over other players.

#6
They are definitely not necessary, but they are part of the main story. You don’t have to complete them as it is not required for story to progress. You will only miss on some events that happened between that one time you completed a Story instance and the Instanced that followed after, as the Dungeon is supposed to explain what happens in between. You can read their stories on GuildWars 2 Wiki and not having to play them at all.

#7
To be honest I would say that a good way of making money is indeed available only after you reach lvl 80. Before you reach lvl 80 you won’t be able to recieve any valuable items, because nobody spends gold on items they won’t use once they lvl up a bit more.
Yet, completing Dungeons and Map Exploration can give you a nice, but not huge, amount of Gold. Also, do your Daylies, they are quick to complete and will give you guaranteed 2g per day.

#8
Salvage Ligth-armor Masterwork (green) gear.

If you obtain a Rare (yellow) item, check what price does it sell for on Trading post. If the price on the TP is higher than price of one Glob of Ectoplasm, then sell it. If it is lower, I suggest taking the risk and salvaging it as you have a chance to obtain 1-3 Globs of Ectoplasm + crafting materials and sigils/ runes. Only do that with Master’s/ Mystic Salvage Kit. If you happen to have Black Lion Salvage Kit, then use it only for Exotic (orange) armor/ weapons that are not worth selling, there are some Exotic items that have a very low value.

Most important thing to do: Get yourself a Guild! This will speed up your progress by miles, not to mention that thanks to in-game Guild-chat you won’t get bored as fast while leveling, etc. Yet, it is very important to find an active Guild with active Guild-chat. By no means do I suggest that Starting Guilds should not be helped, I only believe that if you are a returning player, then you will need an active enviroment, so you won’t get disappointed by inactivity/silence of fellow Guldies.

I guess thats all from me, but there are plenty of tricks and typs I can’t recall at the moment, so I suggest taking your time and sail through Wiki from time to time or just ask anyone in the game. Gw2 community is 90% a welcoming and hand-lending community, so don’t be afraid to ‘random whisper’ someone =D

Good Luck and especily Have Fun!

Mounts Suggestions

Hey Everyone, feel free to share your suggestions on Mounts, I got few so far.

1# It should be possible to dismount without mount disappearing. Have it follow player until player “stows” it. Possibly give it a “Stay” order.

2# Having some emotes designed and/ or allowed while being mounted. Being able to /wave while in saddle for example. Plus Mount emotes, that would work only while mounted. /sit, /roar, etc.

3# Noticed that current Raptor can be dyed only with one Dye. Having more options would be nice.

Thats all I had in mind.
What do others think, I wonder?

1. No, player clutter for no reason other than annoying people at vendors
2.Waste of resources, the mounts are already beautifully animated and they are not a vanity item but a tool to exploit, it’s like asking for ranger pet emotes, it brings nothing new to the gameplay.
3.ABSOLUTELY NOT, we already have glowstick kittenfests and people that dress up and color their characters like absolute clowns with wings that glide with magitech absurdity that ruin the arstyle of the game, those people do not need more encouragement.

1#
You can just stand at vendor while mounted already, so your argument about 1# is completely invalid. My suggestion would bring possibility for more cute animations and the feeling of actualy having a mount. Gameplay is but one of many aspects of the game. Atmosphere of the game is one of the utmost important ones, which my suggestion promotes.

2#
Thats actually the only reasonable point in your entire post, yet nobody said Anet has to prioritize it as a Number One of Road map, this can be easily done during following months of develepement that is ahead of PoF.

3#
I am glad that you immidietely assumed I want 4+ colours on Mounts, that was actually a really good one.
You considering a freedom of choice for players as an argument to not include a freedom of choice is just… nice of you. I met many people looking like Clowns and it was just either funny or nice because, as we all for sure know, Anet always aimed for community as a top priority, so I really don’t think it breaks the artstyle of the game, in a way the players are the artstyle of the game.

Not only do I want my mount to follow me around I’d like him to play the banjo and sing to me too.

Gotta have them emotes because every other MMO has them too.

The fact they you can even dye your mount is pretty awesome, what’s even better is an ungrateful request especially when other mmos do not allow this feature.

Insatiable ones!

Strange. I considered this, and the entire topic, to be titled “Suggestions” and not ‘Requests’. But I guess they don’t know the difference of this word in other MMOs…..
Powers of observation of some certain individuals continue to amaze me.

Just a bug report:

If striking the lethal blow to Veteran Forged Assembler, located east of Talatat Quarry, by Forged Ammuniton bomb skill #,1 the Veteran Forged Assemblers corpse gets stucked in the air, in sort of /bow animation.
While killing it with weapon or utillity skills, its corpse falls to the ground standardly.

What is the "best" legendary weapon?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Alatar.7364

Alatar.7364

If you have and play all the professions then go for Staff.
Staff is the weapon that can be used amongs all classes except Warrior and Engi.

Revert PvP Icons

The idea behind the new icons was that we weren’t pleased with the readability of the old ones. As others have noted, you had to already know what the rank art looked like to know whether someone had achieved a higher or lower rank.

That being said, considering the feedback, we’ll revert them.

Thank you.
I’ll get you a Cookie or two next time when someone starts whining that Devs don’t read Forums.

Should i roll thief?

in Thief

Posted by: Alatar.7364

Alatar.7364

I main Thief, but truth is that Druid, Ele and/ or Guardian can do this all while being more useful if played properly. Also Thief would require you to be much more experienced to do it all, than of you did it with the others. So go Thief only if you are not a new player and are already familiar with mechanics of basically all other classes.

PS: Now is really not the time to go Necro

Or as a druid who play thief I can say that thief is far more rewarding once you master it by being more reactive and knowing your opponent. The simple thing such as staff AA and #5 is insane in PvE / vs champ mobs and results in quicker kills than what my Power ranger can achieve.

Thief is squishy by design and can put more people off, so if you like a challange then go for it OP. Mobility and evade is king.

While that is true, I also had in mind the Raids, mentioned by OP. Condi Thief has a very huge dps and is quite required in raid groups, but people will at all times look for Druid more than for the Thief. So I thought he/ she would get a better shot at ‘doing it all’.

But yeah, as mentioned before, OP can go the Hard-way, it is definitely lots of fun, only in my opinion I would do that purely with Staff Daredevil.

Revenant, or Guardian?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Alatar.7364

Alatar.7364

It all comes down to a build, really.
As a Guardian you provide blocks, healing, some boons like stabillity and swiftness. Plus a great deal of damage
As a Revenant you provide Might, Fury, Regeneration (as Herald of course), swiftness. Plus a great deal of damage.
But then you swap Revenants build and you too provide blocks and heals and projectile denial. Conditions, etc.
One brings something over the other, who brings something the other cannot or cannot in such amount.

I’d go Guardian if you wanted more sustain, Revenant if more damage. But as I mentioned, it is matter of build. You can be Revenant with more sustain than Guardian, but with less damage. Or Guardian with a huge damage, but less sustain.

PS: Not particulary sure if the last two sentences made sense, but you get the point.

I mostly wish to be viable across the board (not the best), while providing welcome support. If what you say is true, then I guess its a matter of going with something I like aesthetically then? In that case, I’ll give Revenant a try. I could always boost a Guardian later if I hate it.

This might be confusing, but if you wish to be viable across the board while providing nice support, then go Guardian. There are plenty good builds for being a support Guardian, or support/ damage, but only one build for each support or support/ damage Revenant. But I find Revenant to be much more fun to play.
