I have so many questions..

Sigil of Explosive Vortex.
If you use orbital strike at Max range, completely missing people near you. Are they still pulled to you, or do they need to be hit by the ability?
Perhaps better wording. Is the 600 radius around the skill or you. Still pulling the enemy towards your direction.

Does the blast finisher need to be in a combo field or will it just work on use for each time it’s off CD.

Are these sigil’s PvP exclusive? Is there a way to find out?

I understand that these can’t be answered. But depending on the finer details is if they’ll be worth it or not.

I’m in a raid group, albeit a casual one, and they allow me to play as a power scrapper. I have been trying to defend the power scrapper for a long time as I feel it’s a viable DPS choice, it’s also one that is very enjoyable to play.

There was and for the most part, a huge stigma that all Engineers should be condition damage as it’s simply the best. Though this information has been disproved through further theory crafting and number crunching.

I fear a lot of people don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to play condineer due to it’s popularity and fail to understand that some people just don’t find it fun.

I will link a post I made earlier and pay attention to the second reply, it answers a lot of misconceptions, I will also link the repliers work. as I feel he did an exceptional job.

once this information comes out more wide spread then power scrappers should find a place in some groups. though expect some resistance in pugs that will not give you the benefit of the doubt.

What I can tell you is that the difference is smaller than ever. Against Sabby I managed to get 22k DpS with power, 24k DpS with condi. So what does this mean?

Sabby is the meatbag, so these are meatbag numbers. Sabby has 2597 armor (heavy).

Against Gorseval the numbers are approximately the same. I’d say condi will be a bit better since you have pauses (updraft / elite spirits) between, wich favors condi. However, you will use Slick Shoes then, wich reduces the condi dps to ashes compared to Power. Power has a solid auto attack, so your DpS will be like 20k (meatbag DpS), whereas condi will be around 16-18k. So you only will use condi if you play “No-Updraft”, brings you back to the Sabby meatbag numbers.

Against Vale Guardian you only need 2 (!) condi professions, mainly 2 condi engis. They deal really low dps against Vale itself, that’s why you put them to green field duty. Any additional Engi above 2 should play power for max dps. Vale Guardian has only 1910 armor (light) wich basicly means +30% power damage. So yea you’ll get almost 30k DpS with power in the FIRST phase. Moving will naturally cripple anyones DpS.

I recommend for green field duty: Condi Engi, condi Engi, Druid, DpS Mesmer (use 2 Mes).

Hey. I was wondering if anyone has crunched the numbers and compared the 2 damage types together. Furthermore I’ll be interested to see the numbers next to other classes of equivalent build.

I keep hearing various comments on the condineer’s superiority and then also later for that to be debunked and that the damage was considerable lower than what was previously thought.

I would also like to see if any testing or mathetics was done based on damage downtime. Basically how does the DPS hold up when a rotation can’t be kept. Or is interrupted.

To be clear I want to see the results, I don’t want to just hear ‘condi is better’. Thank you.

Assuming this is a new precursor. I don’t think they wanted it to be a viable method of acquiring ascended weapons. Yeah the first part is far more expensive than making normal ascended, but it removes the need to make an ascended originally. Though just like Miellyn said.

These parts need to be salvaged.

Saying unicorns, rainbows and flowers are for girls and requesting that all legendaries should be gender neutral or something for both genders is an interesting topic of discussion. One I fear would be something that can ever tastefully be discussed.

The gender bias towards these legendaries are yours. And you’re allowed to have them. Though one would argue it’s societies bias that has influenced you. Let’s change the dreamers Unicorn theme to a Pegasus theme? Is it still girly? I’ll assume yes for now. Pegasus was a gift to Hercules by Zeus, man to a man. Yet modern society does label Pegasus imagery as ‘girly’.

I understand where you’re coming from. You don’t want to have your manly, Bearded, Norn (assumptions!) With a Unicorn (Rain)bow. You have plenty of skins to choose from to keep up with your manly image. You don’t need to have a Legendary.

Either way.. Don’t fret. More legendaries are incoming! I’m sure they won’t stick with the same theme.

You are aware we have quite a large skill cap? The sustain is from the fields. Save CC for when he plays a water field. Scrapper doesn’t need a nerf, you need to improve.

Also please think about PvE. A 20% damage reduction? That’s a massive hit for what is our only strong power based weapon.

Here’s another weakness. Conditions. Hit us with conditions and we fall. Thank you!

An issue with Gyro’s is they don’t really replace kits. Even if they worked as ‘intended’ they’re still not that great.

I apologise if this is a dead horse, or if I’m in the wrong forum. It just seemed the most appropriate place to post this. Though my first suggestion is a simple one. My second suggestion expands on that using tools already in the game and that will drastically improve the enjoyment of the game.

So what is it I want? I want to be able to taxi people into a map using my commander tag. Currently I can’t be tagged up when I taxi people in and this is something that commanders are expected to do. I can ask people to also do the same but I get no feel for how many being are getting into the map or would it be better to just look for one myself.

They’re multiple benefits to using a tag to taxi people in.
1. Commander is in a squad even while alone. This means should people join or leave, you don’t count as leaving a party and therefore LFG. This prevents spam.

2. People can see that it’s a commander looking for more and they would have some confidence that the map they’re joining will be organised.

3. Should the squad get full the commander can begin to kick people from the squad to make room for new comers.

I don’t wish to sound condescending to say that this would be an easy change, I don’t understand the programming and I imagine it’s something that would take time. But it would certainly be an easier fix for my next suggestion for an ideal. Meta-map LFG.

Each new map has a meta event. The system itself does a poor job at putting you in an appropriate map for various reasons and people want to find those few maps that have like minded players, doing the meta events. Each meta requires multiple commanders for people to feel confident that it can succeed. Although the above suggestion fixes that issue to a point. It doesn’t, however, help commander’s find other commander’s. So what would be the ideal LFG system for this?

Let’s take a look at PvP hot join. A server system that gives you a list of available instances and tells you the amount of people in them, including when they’re full. If we create a system based on this. We move a good stride in the right direction. This is also a system that already exists in the game and Anet are clearly familiar with.

So hypothetically, we’re now looking for an Auric Basin map. We open LFG. We have a new section called maps. We go through the drop down menu’s and get to Auric Basin and we can see they’re 8 maps active. 3 are full, the others are sparsely populated. We can even see that the 2 lowest pop maps are closing and we can see a timer.

Now let’s expand on this. What else can we do to make the new meta map experience more enjoyable? Let’s reveal commander tags on the maps. Which what ever tag they choose to represent. Let’s show how many people are in each squad. Let’s also allow the commanders to advertise their objective. Let’s say. ‘Auric Basin, West’ and of course, let us see their name.

So now we can see the list of Auric Basin maps. We can see that 3 maps are full, 4 commanders each. There is another map. It’s increasing in population, we can see this. It has 3 commander tags. Each labeled what they intend to do. I can now join map. Tag up. Set objective to fill the gap and people begin joining the map and my squad. We live happily ever after.

What does this achieve? This achieves easy access to maps and content that you want to do, when you want to do it. This allows people to see popularity and trends. With further expansion you can even show the event timers on this page so we know when they begin, we know the times anyway! Let’s make it friendlier for casuals and new people. Further expansion can allow for a queueing system for when maps are full. Though I dread to imagine how that can be abused. So really think about that. If you really expand more. You can. Let people buy private maps with a password and it’s own reset timer. Allowing guilds to perhaps come together and complete with only people they know or better yet, allow some of the larger guilds to attempt impressive speed runs.

I feel this system would dramatically improve the game. The immersion factor can still exists as this is an LFG tool to be used not forced upon us. The less time people spend in menu’s, trying to get into a good map with what precious time they have. The better.

Tl;Dr. Add a list of instances to the LFG tool similar to PvP hot join. Give us the information we want to know such as the amount of commanders, amount of players and if the map is full. Let commanders LFG in squad.

Will next specialisation remove Hammer?

I imagine the new specialisation, for when it’s announced/released will be tied in with another expansion and this theme will continue. I think each profession that got a 2h should get either a mh or an oh. Or hell maybe spice things up giving a 1h that can be equipped to both. Something to allow the shield to be viable would be nice, though it’ll be a mace. Because 1h hammer skins. Gotta keep to the theme. I don’t think the engi would ever get a sharp weapon. Just speculation.

What I love most is the amount of excuses that I hear when it comes to the tree.

This makes the fight duller. And we have the choice of which fractals to take.

So. Really early with next to no information. What do you guys think?

It upsets me that I feel the additional weapons are going to be locked to the specialisations. We only have one specialisation slot so it’s not unreasonable to assume this.

I love my Hammer scrapper, it’s the only reason I play scrapper. Juggernaut is my favourite Legendary and I finally have a class that I enjoy playing that uses a Hammer and I’ve finally began my ‘journey’.

Now I understand that there is no need to switch to the new specialisation once it’s out. I can keep my Scrapper, but what if the next specialisation is so good that it becomes high in demand and I’m then expected to run it?

I have little attachment to the rest of the specialisation’s mechanic’s. F-Gyro is cute and it has it’s limited uses. The other Gyro’s are adorable and stupid, it gives them charm but charm doesn’t do damage or provide support. The only Gyro I used was the Sneak Gyro but it’s recent nerf made it lose it’s high stealth uptime for noxious pod runs.

The Hammer though and all weapons for specialisation’s have no inherent ties to the specialisation mechanics and thus, could in theory be unlocked for core class and newer specialisation.

What do you guys think?

Have they even said they plan on changing it? Personally, I’ll be sad to see him go. I like the double stomp in PvP and the rez in PvE is useful. Especially when someone downed in an area that’s unsafe.

Does it need improving? Yes. No need to target said ally would be nice. Additional stuff while it’s not being used would also be good. A passive effect perhaps? I love scrapper. Mainly the hammer. We shall see.

Ideal Pip System

They need to remove MMR from the system. If you end up in the MMR sweet spot. The game match’s you up with players of a similar skill and you end up with a 1 to 1 win loss ratio. This shows the system works but if you hit that in emerald, which many have. You gain a pip, lose a pip. You end up stuck. This is nothing to do with your division placement and you really have to struggle to get out. Now, that’s fun. But I didn’t expect that until Sapphire. Which ironically is far easier to get out of. What?

This is where the exploit comes from. You can tanked your MMR in unranked or right at the start of a Division and have an easier time progressing because you’re not going against the skilled players that deserve to be there and when you do, your pips are protected because the system predicts a lost.

This should never be the case. Ever.

1 DH floats home/mid to prevent thief decap, other 3 and the necro sit mid. Tell me, exactly how is the op’s team supposed to win with their comp?

LOL DH are super squishy when u get past their boons. Not only that ur had 2 Druids and a Mesmer. On top of that you were playing Engi which has one of the best team fight mechanics. And to add to that, the thief soft counters the necro. No way one should lose to 4 DHs with that comp.

Did I say Druids? No. I said Rangers. 2 ‘rangers’. They pretty much just trapped close and mid and it was locked down for us. We’re not in legendary fyi.

To points made about me wanting to punish the people performing the exploits, this is not from a malicious desire to get people in trouble, however, if it was a seen as a serious breach of conduct then I would like to know the appropriate actions I should take.

The consensus seems to be that’s it’s somewhat acceptable, but it should be fixed. This means I don’t need to report anyone should I encounter this again.

To the complaint that I should let people play how they want to play. Please note this person joined my group, with my friends, and forced his method of play onto us. Which we were extremely annoyed at.

I dislike every exploit, no matter how big or small. I prefer to play the game as it was intended to be played. Call me silly, I just find that fun. (Played since launch to those with the ’you’ve not done it 1000s of times arguement’)

Sorry if the title it confusing. I’ll explain.

Will we ever see professions and skills be different in PvP? What do I mean by this?

Well lets look at the Stealth Gyro.

Cooldown used to be 20s, now increased to 40s. Because PvP. Yet people in PvE have to deal with this change. Why can’t the change just be for PvP?

We already go to the mists. We already have a different build. We have different stats and gear. Sigil’s are now going to be acting differently and certain runes aren’t available in PvP but are in PvE (where they’re not useful).

These are nice steps toward the right direction. But I fear that raid groups that are still progressing are going to struggle with the changes. Hell even then more Hardcore’s might need to change the damage rotation or the profession composition to keep up with the insane time they want to spare.

I fear none of the changes have had PvE in mind, so why not make these changes separate?

Hey guys. Right so I started ranked over the weekend and I wanted to get to saphire before end of season. It was going super well and I was winning match’s pretty much 90% of the time. My MMR was pretty low, I guess.

I’m halfway through emerald and I’ve just hit a wall and I can’t get out of it. I’m the person who wants to talk tactics prematch. I’m explaining what everyone needs to do and to not falter. Very rarely people listen, even rarer they already know. But most of the time people want to run around and be in every fight.

Meanwhile I’m continually going to far, I’m taking and holding and scoring points for the team. I’m sometimes keep 2 of my opponents busy, sometimes 3. Keeping a lot of pressure on the enemy team to force them to deal with a point that is often, apply and forget. None of my team mates listen when I try to tell them to stay on points but I guess its more fun to run around and start fights in no man’s land. Meanwhile I’m say here, scoring points for my ‘team’ while none for myself.

Then we lose. And I lose a pip. Even in a game against people far better than us. I had 3 of my teammates listening. Wanting to do well for the team. We lost by 9 points but we got that far through superior tactics, sadly inferior skill. Still lost a pip.

It seems like I have to focus on my personal score to protect my pips and that any effort made to accumulate points for the team aren’t credited. I’m not a great PvPer. I dislike following the meta and disagree with the distribution of competitive builds. Builds should be secret and part of the challenge of PvP itself.

I don’t mind losing, I don’t mind dying. But I am bothered about my pips. I refuse to believe that I need a 5 win streak to get out of this tier, to meet the next 5 win streak. I refuse to believe my friend who is 2 tiers away from diamond has got that far from only winning.

So guys, what am I doing wrong? Should I focus on point capture at this level or is it pointless at this level? Should I just score as many points for myself and hope to get pips from losses? Or at least protect them.

Tl;Dr. Lose game. Lose pip. Win game. Win pip. How do I protect my pips in the losses.

I don’t want to mention the details of the exploit. I encountered after a very trigger happy Revenant forced this exploit upon us. I don’t agree with or use exploits and since this knowledge I’ve seen people asking for Revenants to exploit this.

Am I right in understanding that appropriate action will be made against the players performing and requesting this ‘service’?

How do I go about reporting such behaviour should I encounter it again? Hope to hear more soon.

Losing pips.

I understand losing pips is important to make sure people are ranked where they belong. Though I’ve been finding it to be rather.. Unforgiving.

Sometimes a pip is rewarded on a loss depending on performance or team skill. That is cool.

I’ve yet to see a loss result in no change at all.

And then the loss that means you lose a pip. I don’t think they should be as frequent as I’ve witnessed and people have claimed.

I think a ‘no reward’ on a single match loss is fair and that pips should be lost as lose streaks become apparent. Dealing with DCs and pips can be difficult. If we have a group of players in a party in a losing game. If pip protection was included from DCs.. One of them will DC, it’ll be heavily exploited and this is why we can’t have nice things.

Basically. I’m sour about my pips. I solo queue and I wish I didn’t have to. But I’m subject to 9 viables each match and right now I’m needing a 5 game win streak to get out of ‘emerald’ it’s embarrassingly low but I started this weekend.

But it’s borderline e useless in PvE. Where 50% of the Gyro’s functionality is removed (the stomp) and you have to rely on your friends being bad. If this was optional. You simply wouldn’t take it.

The percentage damage increase from berserkers far out weigh the percentage damage reduction of other stats. I love my hammer. So much so that I’m finally crafting Juggernaut! My favourite legendary in the game.
I fear the changes will be with the hammer itself. Reducing the block of 4, reflect of 2. But at a price I don’t understand? We have a low health pool and to have the fast healing and stun breakers, we sacrifice damage. This change only forces builds to focus more on damage than trying to find a balance.
If they make changes to the trait line. And nerf it? I’ll be ashamed. Truly truly ashamed. 2 minor traits of the Scrapper are only good if your team mate is downed and you are alive. Please note ALIVE. I thought the idea was that the Scrapper was a beefy guy or Girl who will survive the mistake and be able to get up the friend that didn’t.
This change no matter how small is kitten on those traits. And if survival is going to be changed then I demand those traits are changed too.

I taught two fresh engineers the build using this exact advice, and two hours later we killed the Vale Guardian with 1:30 remaining on the clock. One of them was using exotic armor and trinkets.

Well everything is easy to learn when you have a teacher with you. I’ll admit I’ve not seen the video, only the build. A guild member is using it and he feels like he has to remain really focused.

I will pass on this advice to him and hope it helps him. Anyway. I don’t want to derail this thread into a discussion about the well known condition build so I would prefer it ends here.

This build wouldn’t be as damaging as p/p but it’s a good power alternative. I will ask if anyone could compared it to other classes power build instead of the engineer condition.

You just drop fire fields on cooldown while trying to maximize your shrapnel grenades per minute.

What’s hard to understand?

The build itself is advertised with a 37 step damage rotation not including the buttons pressed for weapon swaps.

Which mean all the damage calculations and claims that this build can do are based around the rotation?

Ignoring that rotation and spamming shrapnel grenades whenever possible, surely that lowers the optimised DPS and the ‘most damaging build’ loses it’s claim?

Also in terms of ’what’s hard to understand’, again the build is advertised with a 37 step damage rotation and emphasises on cycling through all your kits and using the high damage abilities.

You are literally the only person that has ever said, fire fields, nades press 2.

hammer depends on hammer for a lot of dps. rifle depends on kits for a lot of dps. thats the takeaway.

Aye. I’ve come to that conclusion a few days ago. Though over the weekend or later tonight, if I’m not too tired. I will be looking at damage rotations. I don’t think the kits are that important in this build, as you said.

I’m aware of the flawed premise as my calculations were only to show that the hammer is a more damaging weapon than rifle ‘without kits’. The rifle has it’s uses but I don’t think it’ll increase my DPS. W

ith the idea that I’ll be able to drop some kits, thus simplifying the damage rotation reduces the room for error. Thank you for your feedback.

I played sinister engi engi for a long time and I want to use hammer now but I cant seem to find a build to make it work

I like this set up a lot actually. I will test it this weekend as during the week all I do is my fractals and daily for the most part.

It is indeed unreliable for that, however the skill can be blocked. Use your skill 4 for that

Aye. Though 20s CD so I can only do it half the time. I was hoping to work around it in a damage rotation to not suffer a DPS loss.

Because then DnT would make a spread sheet to show that using the engineer boxes into a damage rotation in an ideal situation out damages everything else by far.

All other classes will end up as peusdoneers and have to work in the weapon swap boxs into their damage rotation. This will become the meta and no one will question it. Just follow blindly.

The cast duration of the skill is 1.75 seconds while the evade is only 1 second.

It’s strange as I believe the evade is between the first and the second impact. As I’ve been interrupted before first impact and interrupted before last impact. However been fine in between.

Is this intended?

For WvW, HoT zones and raids?, i can’t seem to find a happy medium on what to runqq.

You can do soldier armour. Knight trinkets and Zerker weapons.

This is good for wvw with runes of hoelbrak and adaptive armour. 40% condition reduction.

In other content. HoT is still berserker. The mobs don’t seem to care about your tankiness and will just kill you. So better to kill it faster.. Again.

Raids you want a tank build. So you can use wvw stats that I mentioned above buy depending on your team. Just run the highest toughness by the lowest margin you can.

That protection uptime is pretty nice. 87.5% protection uptime is high and a team mate should be able to sort out the missing 12.5%. This is pretty interesting. I’ll certainly consider this when I go for a tank build.

It is an acceptable risk. As much as I love the theory crafters and what they do. Seeing all these wonderfully structured optimal builds that fall into the ‘meta’ category makes me just die a little inside. As then it’s the expected norm for like you said, perhaps a negligible difference.
(edit: Just want to state for the record we’re not going for a PHIW approach. We have everyone fine tuning their builds and getting as much advice as they can, we play with what we have, and we make it work. We find that fun ^^)

Theory crafting though doesn’t end with the Classes, it goes on to groups. An example based on what is observed. Guardian Tank, Druid Healer, 1 Berserker, 2 Heralds, 3 Condi-engineers, 1 Chronomancer. and whatever else.

These casts out entire classes, let alone builds or gear. Yes it’s the most optimal way and also the highest chance of success. But if I have to leave my girlfriend who is an Elementalist or my best friend who is a Thief, it becomes a no deal.

As stated above the condition slots have been filled, one by a condi-engineer, already. I do not have vipers gear, but I have Zerker. I would be interest to hear about this build being compared to other power based builds of other classes. How does it match up?

Maybe for PvP. You should really state which game mode you’re discussing but a lot of these traits have a place. Perhaps they’re not suitable for your builds, playstyle or game-mode of choice.

at the time i wasnt using durability runes i think it was scavenger i cant remember but in a perfect world i will run durability runes, anyway i barely felt like i was taking damage and could face tank most of the fight and from what ive been hearing about peoples tank builds i think this does alot better then full nomads fit chars since it can heal threw all the damage and still do some decent damage.

you could also take runes of the defender, they work great for extra healing and that aegis on an instant heal yo, and honestly im not sure if celestial is the best tank but i dont have ascended sets that arnt dps aside from celestial lol.

Could I ask why healing Gyro and not healing turret?

And why mecha legs and not soothing detonation?

Healing turret. Cleansing burst. Detonate, would give you a strong boost. Also using the TB healing turret skill and acid bomb on elixer gun would give a good burst of healing.

Have you guys actually killed Vale Guardian with these builds? Or is this just theorycraft?

Currently theory craft. Though the build is now in practice and is working very well in all other content. So for that I’m happy.

3 things:

1) I don’t think strength runes are worth taking over scholar runes for something like this.

2) I’m not sold that the personal dps loss of using bomb kit over elixir gun is justified for a fire field, especially considering how easily a PS war or herald could stack might.

3) Also, while this is a solid build, I don’t think this would really be worth taking over a condi engi unless you just didn’t have any condi gear and your group already has enough condi dps. Considering how expensive and time consuming it is to get vipers gear with sinister trinkets compared to just a straight zerker set, this is totally understandable.

Basically, you can just take the old meta power build (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Engineer_-_Power_Grenadier), replace the Tools like with Scrapper and then replace Rifle with Hammer.

However, the meta condi build will bring all the fire fields and blast finishers along with higher dps and the ability to take on the red guard in the vale fight.

I will make the adjustments you’ve suggested. I’ll be honest. I completely overlooked the elixer gun.

I guess I could try runes of the scholar as they are much cheaper and attainable. My main concern is that I may struggle staying over 90% but I guess this is a sort of ‘get gud’ encouragement. Not like I need it with raids.

Changing the grenade trait to glass cannon would support the runes further and the encouragement of staying healthy.

As for condition build. I know it’s there. I know where to find it and I know it’s OP. My guild has too many people jumping on the condition train right now. Also I like to do my own thing than follow the crowd.

Hi,

I run this kind of build but some changes.

I get eg instead of nades kit. Because i’m bored to play this kit anymore….

With 5 of eg you get a light field. Then you can combo with 3 of hammer.

And i get sismic turret instead of ft. With this, you have 3 more explosives combo. Then you can healing gyro for getting more protection than with healing turret.

Sounds interesting. I will look into the turret at least. I like my nades for the vulnerability.

How does the healing Gyro offer more protection though? That adorable little kitten can barely keep up! XD.
