I’m not sure what Arenanet was thinking with this one.

It’s 1,000 candy corn to make one Candy Corn Cob. And it takes 15 Candy Corn Cobs to get a 20 slot Halloween Pail.

At those costs, it’s far easier to just farm 10 gold and buy a regular 20 slot box outright.

Not to minimize your complaints but here’s my take.

1. The zones are too long

You are complaining about too much content.

You should know as a developer that making content that players don’t reach is wasted content. Too long here can mean the player doesn’t reach the end of the zone before giving up. Too long can also mean it’s too difficult to reach the end. Too long can also mean the reward for completing the zone is not worth the time invested.

2. Jumping on a flower can throw you into another flower and kill you

You can be more careful about the direction you are facing when you land on them.

The flowers could also be changed to require a key press from the player, so the player feels they have control of the situation of when and where they go.

3. Crocodile hit boxes are too little

You need to use tactical stratagy to find the spots to hit the from, just like old platform games.

Pixel perfection should not be required, especially when determining that distance is haphazard at best. This would be less of an issue if the bombs and slingshot were easier to accurately aim.

4. Too many enemies on all maps

Learning where enemies are and how to thwart them is part of the process of progressing in old platform games.

Fair enough. Though I still say some consideration should be given. There’s an awful lot of assassins in World 2.

5. World 2 spike traps are not fair, especially when you get to places where there are lots of cheap ones.

They are all visible. The darts shoot out of dart boxes. The assassin training grounds are meant to teach you to carefully observe your surroundings.

They teach that lesson poorly. I ran into a dart trap twice without realizing what was killing me. Then I saw the very hard to see darts flying around. One shots are never all that fun. Considering they already exist in the form of missed jumps, having them placed throughout the level too in normal mode is just cruel. One heart of damage would still teach the lesson without being overly punishing.

6. World 2 does not have nearly enough checkpoints and repeating the gong run is painful

The gong run is painful. I’d like to tap that difficulty spike down.

Checkpoints are pretty important, considering it’s the only way of making progress from bad jumps. Most 3D games decided to only remove some health from bad jumps instead of instantly killing because the spatial distance is very difficult to judge. With SAB, those jumps have to be very fine, which is even more difficult with things such as latency at play.

So far, it’s all far too difficult mainly due to some bad mechanics. In one frustrating example, I died about 5 times trying to cross the falling logs near the end of Zone 1. Not because the jumps were difficult, but because they were impossible to time across the full length of the waterfall. There’s simply no way to get any perspective, so one has to just jump to the next log. If you happen to wait a bit too long for a good jump (or no good jump comes), then you’ve fallen down too far and have to go all the way back. Except even getting back is difficult since making vertical progression can’t really be done. It was simply easier to die, get the checkpoint, and try again and hope I was luckier with timing.

I’m also getting annoyed about these DPS checks. It just doesn’t suit group content when your numbers and player types can’t be managed. These events need to scale for a lower amount of people for those servers and overflows that simply don’t have the massive numbers.

The champion farm in Queensdale is a bit crazy. What’s most crazy about it is how poorly these champions scale up with the amount of players involved. These champions die just as fast as veterans. If there’s one thing I’d see changed, it’s making these champions scale up in health a lot more just so there’s more time for players to move to the event once it starts.

Since once again we have achievements that involve doing the WvW jumping puzzles, I would like to remind some people of a bit of common courtesy.

If someone /waves to you, it means they are not looking to fight. If you wave to them, it means you are not looking for a fight. Please try to respect that some people may just wish to get through the zone and get out.

I know people will say that this is a PvP zone, so they should expect a fight. I would just like to see fighting that doesn’t involve pushing off ledges, hiding behind corners, or general camping. If you feel like getting into some 1v1s or 2v2s, the very beginning of Obsidian Sanctum can be a great place for it.

If I see someone in a jumping puzzle and they don’t bother me, I won’t bother them. Outside in true WvW though, anything goes.

@everyone: they made it this hard just to sell more infinite coins off the gem store. Don’t fall for this trap.

We made it so that it’s fun to play. It’s quite possible that we are just THAT much better at jumping than the average player, but I doubt it. I want it to be fun. If MOST people think it’s too hard to be fun then I’ll reduce the difficulty. But like I said above, we don’t have good numbers on that yet.

Keep in mind. You developed it. So you have advanced knowledge of pretty much everything in the level, as well as what route to take and where to time your jumps. You’re probably also dealing with a lot less latency/lag than some players.

Right now, it’s just feeling like you guys want me to die over and over again. Which is something I would have only expected in Tribulation Mode.

um.. no. a villain is almost always going “fail” in some way. being a villian sue has nothing to do with being infallible. & just because someone is intelligent doesn’t make them able to do everything amazingly with no effort. she DID master everything. finish the courses? who cares. Einstein didn’t excel at everything in college either. (incidentally Anet tried to soften the blow recently by saying she didn’t finish from every college. just that she took a special exam that proved she could. umm.. difference?) being a super, multidimensional genius who has seen all of reality (which they are trying to backpedal on) tried every trade but gave up because they were too easy is not villain 101. It’s “I want this character to be everything & have a sassy pop-culture crazy-girl personality 101”

I still say that people are saying she’s a Villain Sue simply because they do not like the character. Her main super power here is that she’s smart. That’s hardly any different than many other villains.

As I said earlier. She did not master everything. She left before she mastered what she was learning. She learned just enough about the topic before deeming the rest unimportant. Generally, as being a villain sue is a form of wish fulfillment, they actually are intended to be victorious in everything. As it is, she simply has a backstory to flesh out her rather non-committal and non-conformist personality, and give some explanation for why she’s capable of turning the Clockwork Knights into the nightmares. Past that, she’s failed at kidnapping Queen Jenna. She was driven out of pavillion and her captives were rescued. She’s been “beaten” at countless invasions. Most characters discount her as being a crazy loon and while she may be a threat, I don’t see characters treating her unbeatable.

And let’s be fair to Arenanet here. They’re mostly clarifying things, not back-peddling. It was never specifically stated that she completed every college, just that she was able to enter each college. They never said she truly saw the eternal alchemy. They merely implied that she had some kind of other worldly experience, and saw things. It’s never really stated exactly what she saw, but it’s clear that it’s what tipped her over the edge to being completely insane. In fact, one of the asura states that seeing the eternal alchemy is impossible.

So I still think people are taking this Villain/Mary Sue thing a bit too far. Let’s give Arenanet a couple more story updates and see how it goes. I personally think it should be interesting to see how something like Caithe reacts to Scarlet.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too after I bought it. 2 hearts per potion may help a little as it saves time, but since drinking a potion takes a few moments anyway, it may not save your life anyway. And of course healing 2 hearts in a potion isn’t useful at all when there’s instant death traps around.

10 baubles would be fair, but I’d settle for 15 baubles as well for the extra convenience of healing faster.

Well, to be honest, you don’t need genius-level intellect to come to the conclusion Atrabelos did. You only need to remember Karka Queen in Southsun. Even without the level of difficulty posed from Teq, the Queen could be farmed.

But, for the most part, there’s no interest due to the lack of rewards.

You don’t need time travel . . . just common sense.

Basically this.

Karka Queen admittedly does still get run occasionally, but mostly by big guilds rallying people to do it. Even still, I’m not sure if the rewards are really worth the effort. It’s also unfortunate that most of Southsun is pretty much unusable to the solo player due to the encampments being impossible to clear by one player.

Tequatl suffers from the same problem. Right now, players get nothing if they don’t get past 75%, which is discouraging. The rewards for under 75% are mostly uninspiring from what I’ve heard so far, with the only decent rewards coming from the kill itself. Even those are mostly relying on RNG to be worth that extreme level of communication that simply won’t be possible a month down the line.

It’s a worrying state right now, to say the least.

The only problem I had with Josh were the first couple posts where he seemed to be dismissing the issues. But the communication after that showed that he did genuinely want players to enjoy World 2 and wanted to make sure the complaints were justified. The communication was great and one of the main reasons I decided to stick with SAB even after getting frustrated. I don’t see why he should be put on moderated status when the majority of his posts were very good at isolating the issues and responding to concerns. Frankly, it’s something I’d love to see more among developers.

Edit: I actually wouldn’t say SAB is dying. In fact, I see a ton more people running around with SAB weapons over the last week. So I’d say all the communication and changes did some good.

Regarding teaching people to fish, and giving people fish. I just don’t think that situation really applies here. It’s not a life or death thing. Being good/lucky enough to finish first in this minigame isn’t going to really change anything for them. In all likelyhood, once this event is over, we won’t see a similar event for another year.

Sure, there will be the occasional person who will keep hammering themselves against the race to get better and win. Those people are going to do that anyway, regardless of what you’re doing. Someone gave me a win, and I kept playing anyway just to get better and win on my own terms. (And then I wait at the line to hand that win to someone else).

Thing is, not everyone is like that. Not everyone who plays GW2 will have enough spare time to get good enough at the game. Or get good enough to overcome other problems like latency or bad luck. Fact of the matter is, some people will just not be very good at fishing. They may never get good at fishing, no matter how much you try to “teach” them. (You are actually trying to teach them, right? Just coming in first doesn’t really teach them anything. If you offer advice how to beat you, then that would count as teaching.)

Really though, we live in a society. And in that society, some people are good at fishing, and some are good at hunting. And usually those two groups help each other out. Just because it’s called a PVP zone, doesn’t necessarily mean the competition can’t be a bit more light-hearted and mutually beneficial.

Yeah. World 2 is way too hard, even on the normal mode.

The lag of the rapid section, complete with close quarter cameras and quick time jumps. The assassins who take 4 hits to kill, but can take off 1 heart per attack. The falling log puzzle that’s actually impossible to cross if wait just a hair too long on one of the jumps. The death traps that are not obvious at all. The freaking Koi Pond that is apparently bottomless….

It’s all adding up to a lot of frustration. Especially with the very infrequent checkpoints and falls that consume 1 life instead of 1 heart.

I beat her…but still felt like half luck. Gotta get those orbs to spawn in the right place at the right times.

Just a few things I’d like to see changed really, which I think would keep the intended difficulty much the same, while removing some of the random chance.

1. Move the arenas to somewhere outside where all the big group events take place. Lag is a killer for this, and this just adds to the frustration.

2. Allow the camera to extend back further. The arena can stay the same size, but if we could get a more accurate view of what was behind us, it would let the player know what they are potentially running into.

3. Reduce the damage Liadri does during Phase 1. Yes, it can be avoided, but even avoiding it feels a bit random at a times. It makes a big difference going into phase 2 at 50% health or 90%. That damage at the beginning should just be there to make sure the player is moving.

4. Extend the time limit by 1 minute. Chances are, 3 minutes won’t make much of a difference compared to 2, but it will give just a bit of leeway to some of the classes that rely on pets to assist with damage.

The current idle animation for staff is where the Staff is held like a hammer, one end pointed down, the other held high over the shoulder. It just doesn’t look like. The front should be held high in front, ready to parry an incoming blow or make a quick downward strike, not pointing to the ground.

There’s one easy explanation for why SAB wasn’’t as popular this time around. It’s simply not new. The patch in April came as a big surprise, and everyone was really enjoying the cute throwback to retro games and the April Fools joke that brought it out.

Even if SAB World 2 had been perfect and everyone loved it, it’s likely there would still be less of a turnout this time around. Being released at the same time when everyone is heading back to school and college and work probably didn’t do it any favors either. There’s also the Ascended Crafting which while it probably brought people in, it also made some people leave. (I do wish we could have some dev discussion about whether Ascended Crafting is reaching their goals or not)

Anyway, I wouldn’t want stuff like this to hurt a dev professionally. I think they’re under enough pressure already.

I’ve gotten more than that 2500 shards since ascended weapons were released with no actual grind o-o
I just do what i want and it flows in quicker than i can keep track of it, and i don’t even WANT an ascended item, they all look pretty horrible to me. Quit complaining and learn that it’s not going to take a single day to get it, we already have enough of these cry-baby threads on the forums.

2500 shards. Yeah….call me skeptical. Are you playing 10+ hours a day. What are you doing to obtain that many?

Sorry man, but since everyone paid for 5 character slots, they’re technically able to get 5 gifts. If I buy more character slots, I should be able to get more gifts. Plain and simple.

And people with all those character slots did get more gifts. A very useful Birthday Booster, and a mini Queen Jenna.

Yes. It’s not a random mini. But wait, aren’t people complaining about RNG anyway?

I can see it now. Arenanet makes a birthday gift that has 150 different minis, but then there’s the guy who had 15 characters and only got 4 different minis and feels cheated by it.

Change the knockback to a knockdown (1-2 seconds) and remove the “you lose all powerups” part and I wouldn’t mind them being placed in unavoidable spots that much.

But right now being the 2nd is a nightmare if the 1st knows what he has to do.

Seriously. 3rd place can be pretty bad too if 2nd avoids 1st’s bombs and sets his own too.

I do keep forgetting that bombs also remove any current powerups. None of the other offensive powerups do that as far as I’m aware. It’s funny that they basically gave 1st place the best tool available for staying in first, short of something really absurd.

Mistforged Weapons and Low Tier Servers

So, as I understand it, only the top 5 servers of each league will get enough tickets to buy a Mistforged Weapon this season. This means that for Silver League, 4 servers will be stuck without them. My own server SoR doesn’t even have a chance at competing at present, though I still hope we’ll rally.

It’s very depressing that out the outset of Season 2, no matter how hard we fight or the effort an individual puts in, they simply have no hope of getting a Mistforged Weapon this season. Meanwhile, someone that transferred to a server will a sure shot at placing even 3rd or 4th and puts in the minimum work for the Meta gets a guaranteed 300+ tickets.

This just doesn’t seem like a fair way to distribute the rewards when servers within a league are so disparately balanced. I suggest all end of season chests contain enough tickets for 1 mistforged weapon with maybe a charge of tokens for lower placed servers. Servers that place in the top three simply can get an extra Mistforged, or have those extra tickets for the other rewards. That would be more balanced in my opinion.

You know one thing that would make me like this meta-achievement a lot more? Is if the various WvW Dailies counted to it some amount.

Like say every 5 WvW dailies I did counted towards a repeatable deed that increased my contribution into the meta.

I’ll certainly get a few of the various WvW Season 1 achievement done, but I really don’t know if it will be possible for me to get 15 of them completed. Not that I really mind working on all these deeds. They’re actually a fun way to decide what I’ll do in WvW on a given day. But it would be nice if the meta-deed was in grasp of a casual WvW player.

This is actually even more annoying in the battle versus the Prime Hologram.

Basically, if any platform only has 20-30 people, they have a very low chance of defeating the hologram. There’s frankly no downward scaling, meaning that a smaller groups get screwed. And the teleporters don’t have any concern for how many are on a platform, so won’t split players up evenly. 30 minutes fighting against Scarlet and knowing you simply have no chance is just an exercise in frustration.

For as much as Anet wants us to “split up” and not zerg, they certainly don’t make events that actually reward that behavior. Only punish when you don’t bring enough people to the table.

Interesting. If I had known, I probably would have bought some gems. But I didn’t know, so I didn’t. And I don’t think I will on the chance that I just might get a free gift in the future. If I buy gems, it will be for something I really want.

That said, the kites are pretty awesome, and I might look into getting one.

Part of the thing that really bugs me is that most of the times I fall in this jumping puzzle, it’s not due to a tricky jump or some kind of timing. It’s because I had to narrowly walk on this small ledge that my body barely fits on. Or I hit a spot that looks safe, but it makes me do the slide and momentum carries me off. Never feels like it was my fault, but just the imprecise physics screwing me over.

I’m glad someone did this, but it’s still depressing. You thought a Legendary was hard?

I’m not sure I get this statement.

A legendary still requires a lot more effort due to the gift requirements. 250 obsidian shards. 200 skill point Bloodstone Shard. 77 mystic cloves (another 200+ obsidian shards), 250 of every type of T6 rare crafting material.

And that’s just for your gifts of Mastery and Fortune.

Ascended looks like a lot, but breaking it down, it’s actually not nearly as bad as the effort to get a Legendary. The only part we don’t know about are the various Ascended Materials. They apparently require a lot of them, but we don’t know how much drop at once either.

Empyreal Fragments are absurd

I’ve been spending 2-3 hours a day running around looting chests in the open world / doing a single JP for the last 4 daily CD’s and have over 1400 fragments – so that is probably about 10ish hours of work for almost 3 weapons worth.

Care to give the exact breakdown? 2-3hrs a day ONLY opening chests + 1 JP sounds about right as for 1400 I would like to see how even with alts.

Sure. I do probably 75% of all the open world chests on a main, then do rounds in wayfarer and queensdale only on all my level 80 alts (7 total level 80’s.) I then do one of the jumping puzzles in Caledon forest that gives 6-9 fragments on all 7 80’s as well. I also loot maybe 40% of the “easy” chests in Orr on 4 of those 80’s while gathering wood/ore. It all adds up rather quickly…

If you only had one level 80. obviously it would take a lot longer to gather the shards or you would have to work harder at it doing say, a bunch of dungeon paths. BUT, it’s all the same in the end as someone with a bunch of alts needs to make weapons for those alts eventually, the only benefit is gearing out your main faster.

It’s too bad I only have two 80 characters, but thankfully 1 has all waypoints and the other has 80-90% all waypoints.
Time to play the game, ie. farming chests.

In before empyreal fragment daily account bound locks/nerfs.

If they made them daily account locked, I would sure hope they boosted all the amounts give to 10+.

It’s kind of unreasonable to expect the average player will have 8 alts running around harvesting chests, so I’m really not sure what Arenanet’s thinking was on this.

The miasma events simply aren’t timed well with the main scarlet fight. If you’re trying to take down the Knights and Scarlet, there’s just no time to do the Miasmas. Even the various champions are difficult to do. That’s the main reason they’re not being completed.

Okay, find the words to be offensive. But remember that if you play how you so choose then so can others. And if others choose to team up to try and stop someone they feel is raining on their parade then so be it. You are not a victim of some great injustice. A couple people used questionable language and one person suggested to team up against you.

There’s absolutely no context to the OP. For all I can tell, people are getting kitten ed at OP because other people ahead of him are yielding to let others win, but he just runs past them to take 1st.

There is no context in which it is acceptable to curse and conspire against another player.

So you too think that a personal attack is a viable tactic when someone does not play by your rules? I’ll say it again, it is NEVER okay to say nasty words in the chat to someone for any reason.

I see you’re trying to take some moral high ground, but all you’re really doing is trying to cover up the real discussion by pointing at a few people who said some not so nice things. It’s not really propelling the discussion forward in any regard.

And this screenshot is lacking a lot of context. What was said before this? What happened before this? Was there some build up?
