I have 11 toons. All of them (at least) full ascended. One and a half legendary armors. Five legendary weapons. Two legendary backpacks. Three bank tabs full of unused ascended gear. I’ve salvaged unnumbered ascended gear, especially rings from fractals. Just a complain: no precursors from drop in 5 years. I suppose I’m a very unlucky guy.

So… have you ever done what we can call “high-end content” in this game?

Open world: Now there are several metaevents in new maps with pre-events around the whole map, but they are basically what you call “play alone with a lot of people running around”. There are some mechanics but with zerg-style gameplay: you have to do this or that at this or that moment, but everybody around you must do the same thing. In fact GW2 was released with that premise of “you are travelling and discover an event, and you found other people doing it”. It was never suposed to have the team gameplay style of GW1 in open world (well… GW1 hasn’t real open world maps, it has a instance of the map just for your team, it’s not something you can call a real MMO).

Raids: They need some coordination and role-focused characters. So, you can find there that team gameplay style you want. No idea about harder/similar to WoW (I’ve never played WoW raids).

Anyway, this game has nothing of GW1 except the name and the lore. IMHO, If what you want is an “advanced version” of GW1, this is not. It’s other thing.

What’s not cool is going back on your policy “New xpac makes previous ones free”.

That was never the policy. It was this: “In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price”.

And there it is, all the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for 50

Actually Guild Wars 1 updated from DX8 to 9 in the Factions expansion so no. Not impossible.

DX9 was an “evolution” of DX8. But DX10 introduced several major changes. So, upgrade a game from 8 to 9 is “easy”, but upgrade from 9 to 10 (or 11, or 12) is not. Of course, it’s not impossible, but not the same as GW1.

It’s as useful as any other ascended item with fixed stats.

I think this is the problem: it’s just as useful as (almost) any other ascended item with fixed stats: rubbish. This game has a lot of not advisable stat combination. Of course you can use those items, but your character will be worse.

Just a point: GW1 have never been Pay2Play, neither GW2.

GW1 is a Buy2Play game that had, at the end, some store revenues.
GW2 was a Buy2Play game with a lot of store revenues that became Free2Play with restrictions (as usual).

So, GW2 was the evolution of GW1 model in that days. But GW1 is not an MMO, it’s more similar to Diablo than to WoW. So, server requirements are not the same, bussiness model is not he same and had no LS-like content until the very end (GW Beyond episodes). GW1 was evolving to what GW2 was at launch.

I’ve noticed with MMOs it’s better to look at opinions from people that actually like MMOs than it is to look to the regular video game websites I usually frequent for reviews because it takes someone who likes the MMO genre to give the most educated opinion.

Considering GW2 was announced at its launch as an MMO those who don’t like MMOs should try, I’m not sure this is really relevant for this game…

It has everything to do with it being a PvP game. It wasn’t until Nightfall that Guild Wars stopped being about GvG with a small PvE sideshow, and people decided the “C” in “CORPG” meant “Cooperative” instead of “Competitive”.

That’s not true. The term “Cooperative” (as well as “Competitive”) in “CORPG” was used by AN crew from the very beginning. Prophecies (formerly just “Guild Wars”) has the biggest PvE campaign of the series and PvP players were forced to play it to unlock skills (until they protested and Balthazar faction was created), so it can’t be considered as “a small PvE sideshow”.

Time charge or VIP charge is a better choice. (turn off the gem store)

No, it’s not. GW2 is a west MMO with mainly west playerbase. And p2p model is dying in the West since a long time ago. I think there’s just one MMO developed in the West surviving with that model (and it’s THE MMO, born in other times when that was usual). I know it’s different in the East, but here almost nobody prefer p2p (except to play specifically that ancient MMO and not sure if they prefer or they just accept).

After many months I finally managed to unlock the “elite” class on 2 of my characters, but am sick and tired of the same challenges and running blobs in WvW to unlock them for all my classes.

If your goal is just to unlock elite specs, you don’t need any of the hard HoT HPs. You can get 200 from Central Tyria (really easy ones) and there are more than 5 “go and take it” ones in HoT to get the other 50 HPs. But it seems a lot of people think that Central Tyria HPs are just for decoration.

So, now that most (well, not sure about this) guilds have invested a lot of resources to obtain a discount… make it free! I find no logic in this argument.

Ascended are not overpowered. They are as overpowered as exotic in comparison with rare, for example. And, nowadays, you can get a full ascended equipment with no great trouble or effort.

As a player who never got any ascended gear except some trinkets like rings and amulets, I would be interested to know how one would acquire a full set of ascended equipment, mainly armour and weapons, “with no great trouble or effort”.

You see when I got to the wiki it says things like this "Ascended armor is crafted using ascended materials and is a complex process. "

That doesn’t sounds like it’s as easy as you suggest.

It’a a matter of time, not effort or trouble. Just play. You’ll get ascended gear and/or mats to craft it just playing. I assume you don’t consider “play” an effort.

So I bought a car. Developers decision was that a car I bought was not good anymore. Security problems.
So service people came to my home chopped the roof of, tires were replaced with tractor tires and the inside of a car has a pool. Its only the looks of a car. I did agree to a user agreement. Did not expect security works that way.

The difference is:
- when you buy a car, you buy a car, it’s yours, thanks for the money, see you, good luck.
- when you buy GW2 (or ANY online game, because all of them have the same terms), you buy the right to use a service (in fact you don’t buy the game itself) with a lot of terms you accept (or you can’t create an account to play). And those terms include “ANet can change whatever they want, whenever they want, without asking anyone”. You accepted that. Maybe you didn’t read anything and just clicked the box and “yeah, continue with account creation, I just want to play!”, but you accepted that.

Maybe you didn’t know it. You will never have the chance of playing original GW2 again. Deal with it. Life is cruel.

One of the points of this game is exactly that you don’t have to buy or craft new weapons because they last forever. Where you see something bad, others see something good.

You are actually trying to justify Anets actions by hurting yourself and other players with the reductionistic approach to a item that shouldn’t be so restricted and available when all people really want is convenience and enjoy the game.

No. I’m saying that there are several items you can use (and you should or, in fact, you must use) in order to do what you want to do. They’re designed for it. To use BL kits to salvage everything is just ridiculous. It’s like using a flamethrower to kill a fly. Yes, you’ll kill the fly, but don’t do it, use an insecticide. It’s designed for it.

Do you want an infinite BL kit? 300 gems for 25 uses. If we use the same ratio of the cooper infinite kit ANet will probably ask more than 24 million gems for it. Ok, go for it. All yours.

Endless Black Lion Salvage Kit Pls Q Q

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Derdhal.6908

Derdhal.6908

The solution to your problem is: don’t waste BL kits, because what you have done is just that: wasting them. Just a few items should be salvaged with them because the rune/sigil is really expensive and you want a 100%. In other case you should use other kits like Mystic: 250 uses, 80%, really cheap. Use your gems to buy gold and the gold to make thousands of Mystic kits. BL kits are not designed to be your main salvaging kit, that’s why they are really expensive and that’s why veterans have a lot: because veterans don’t waste them and use them when it’s really needed.

I think all this thread is based on cancelling something/false promises rage but needs some broader view.

I don’t know if you have read the economic results of HoT and what NCSoft have said about them. I suppose ANet did the update schedule basing it on forecasts that were far away from actual results. In other words: HoT has been a huge economic failure and NCSoft (the owner) is not happy. So, all that promises probably implied hiring more people and living more time with the earnings from HoT sales. But there wasn’t enough HoT sales to do that. And now it’s time to partially “cancel” HoT in order to “survive” long enough to make other xpac that could save ANet.

Of course, as players, what we want is what they promised us. But this is bussines. And sometimes, bussines needs to make annoying decisions in order to exist. We’d be talking about being happy with legendaries today and no game tomorrow or being angry today and have GW2 to play tomorrow, maybe.

The fact is GW2 was announced as a MMO also for people who don’t like MMOs. So, if they change game-play in order to be more like a standard MMO, it’s obvious if they change the rules then and a lot of people who plays GW2 because it’s different will leave it.

IMHO, It’s not a matter of “have fun in ESO”, it’s a matter of “if you didn’t like what GW2 was, why did you play it before HoT was launched?”

Would you please stop comparing it to mounted combat in LotRo and start comparing it to mounted combat in GW1?

If we are talking about gameplay mechanics, we can’t compare almost nothing of GW1 with GW2. Because GW1 isn’t an MMO. That mounted combat was designed to be used in specific instanced maps by a team of, at most, 8 players. It’s similar to the HoT mission of the bunny. Nothing to do with massive open world maps of GW2.

Ok in gw2 when you have made it all the way to silver springs and the Final mission in the cave and that dragon I feel it is to hard for 2 players my guild is small LOL to beat it after 3 days of trying we finally killed that sucker and went through the video etc.

It’s designed as a singleplayer mission (as well as all Season 2 missions). I have done it with my 8 characters (each profession) first time I tried with no special build or gear (exotics). It probably scales up depending on how many you are, so if you were 3 was harder than doing it solo.
